Four legs for the fifth day of the Milwaukee World Jet Boat Champs had teams racing from Gold Beach up the Rogue and into the Illinois River both morning and afternoon… and that’s mixed things up a bit with just one day left to go.

[Music] back in Gold Beach the last part of the 2024 Milwaukee jetboat championships would begin again today on the Rogue [Music] River four legs a repeat up and down the Rogue and then into the Illinois to Oak flat and the Illinois was SE crystal clear water reminiscent of rivers in New Zealand and Canada for our race leader it was business as usual not taking the kiwis for granted he’s he’s right there he’ll be I’m pretty sure he’s going to be there till the very end can you back off a little um consistent times with Roger probably I think you know I think we have a 3 minute lead so we just we’d like to keep that buffer and I don’t think we’d want to gain on that time Roger pron gained some time on the Canadian Upstream especially in the narrower Illinois River that perhaps leveled the playing field Downstream though it was a different matter the turbine’s fuel controller causing issues if we let it climb too high it’ll unload and then the turbine shuts down so we’ve just got to try and run you know at a happy medium is that is that because you’re running it um at a higher higher speed or you need to get more out of it over here than you like back in New Zeal uh well no I think we’ve got an issue with the fuel controller but it’s um manageable as long as I don’t do anything silly Mexican Antonio vasquez’s hold on a class came into question by the end of the first leg with electrical issues in the back of the boat have uh some problem with some fires they fire and we have to we Lo we lose time in fixing that yeah look we had a good run out and C some time on the Mexicans in front of us but I think they might have backed up the start they had some troubles at the top and I think coming down they might have jumped on a green flag so if that’s the case they may get a penalty I’m not too sure so so it’s bit mey coming down cuz we were side by side with them [Music] [Applause] what we are sure about is the confusion caused by the Mexicans possibly leaving late right on John Derry start time but somehow it’s overlooked by officials by midday in Gold Beach co-driver Luis alberan is sure they have the problem sorted but is not sure about the aass lead maybe maybe I don’t know but maybe but you’re okay now yeah we are okay yeah and we are going to win the time that we lose yeah while well out of contention in a class with fuel issues earlier in the week Justin hood is just pleased to finally be putting in Good Times time makeup mode right now uh looking to make up a little time and that’s exactly what we’re doing uh we put in two really good solid legs this morning um boat’s running really good now and uh I’m curious to see where the time come out cuz I know we’ made up some time I’m just not sure how much yet when it’s running a162 looks and sounds great but Justin Hood’s day started better than it finished another dnf due to a broken header on leg [Music] three engine problems for our longest serving River racer Mexican Juan Antonio Koga in a246 Bren engine what is happening uh two valve two valves yeah broken what can you do uh I don’t know maybe repairing for tomorrow unfortunately a246 would not make the finish of the Third Leg of the day Justin Hill was hoping to come out of the box swinging today but the plan didn’t quite play but even without all his usual power he still hauled in CX 151 Trapper Wy of coming out and going hard today but we actually don’t have a boat that’s performing too great so we weren’t actually on it going Upstream um we were down 12 mph some reason and downstream wasn’t much better just seems to be doughy we not quite sure why I know that the hot air fects it but we’re a lot off it so something something makes a mess but we change a few things and hopefully it’s get St changing out the MSD battery and a few other bits helped fix the problem he was back into the game for the repeat legs the other super super fast CX boat was in the hands of local Tim Harding out of overall after missing the first day with engine issues Harding has been climbing back up to the field day after day everybody gets bad luck I just Happ what happened to happen to me but I’m having a good time I’m just seeing how far back up in the field I can get and you’re doing a pretty good job of that who’d you get on the way up I passed Trapper worldy on the way up and uh caught very pelky on the way down so catch I mean I’m making pretty good time uh both up and downstream by the end of the day he would sit second behind the reigning US World Champion Barry pelky who had taken over the CX lead from Adam Wilton we had good runs this morning um we moved in first place uh Adam unfortunately jumped the start Yeah by a minute yeah so that put us in the targets on our back now that also hands pelky third outright I’m happy with the whole week so far so SI what do we got uh four more legs so keep in mind there are two races going on here one for the outright World Championship which requires all legs to be started and finished regardless of class and the other for a class world win where teams can dnf individual legs and still stand to win a class World title the FX leader USA’s Cameron Kirkland is also in contention for [Music] overall and well aware that starting and finishing is very important that is key yeah I mean these are marathons I’ve raced different boats before and and finishing is key uh if you don’t finish you’re not going to make the end of the race so uh that’s what we go for as finishing and we go for the top spot that we can get Chris Barger is also still an outright cont ention and while it’s unlikely he can threaten Kirkland for the FX title he’s still sitting strong in second yeah we still made every leg up and back up and back so that’s that was kind of our goal hopefully break down put it on the trailer and Y make every leg Derek elely is third in class but after missing the first day with pump issues the best he can claim is a class Podium definitely frustrating to uh be Los to a boat that we’ve beaten twice um but Cameron’s one of my best friends and I’m pretty pretty excited for him and potential for him to be a world champion too so that’s something we’ll get to enjoy together and final word goes to Derek elely as well dedicating his run up and down the Illinois to his kids hey tell me about big rock you went different sides of it uh yeah I did I went uh safe and conserv for the first time up by seing there was a lot of people there cheering us on so I made sure I cut inside of it on the on the next one down yeah very first leg this morning around and then the last three we cut we cut inside that that was kind of for my kids cuz they they spend all jumping off that Rock that Rock will be featured tomorrow in the final two legs not long after that we’ll know exactly who won World Championships outright and by class
