Contested each May, the PGA Championship is the second major championship in golf’s annual rotation, and perennially features the strongest field in the men’s game based on the Official World Golf Rankings. Known for dramatic finishes and notable champions, the Wanamaker Trophy—which has been awarded to the winner since 1916—is inscribed with names such as Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player.

The 2024 PGA Championship is set to take place between 13-19 May at Valhalla Golf Club. The reigning champion is Brooks Koepka.

Colin morawa is with us now at the 106 PJ Championship Colin you picked up where you left off yesterday can you tell us what went well out there for you just kept in front of myself and um look I’ve been putting great so far since Augusta um so it’s nice to just kind of keep that Trend going and was able to hit a few close shots few wed shots take advantage of the short holes par fives and um for the most part you know didn’t really make any big errors other than the last ho just that approach shot perfect thanks we’ll open up for questions starting up at Mike 13 Colin you won two majors quickly in your career I’m just wondering other than golf swing at that time what do you feel like helped Propel you to win those uh just just belief I mean I I believed since day one that I was you know going to be able to do it and obviously you want to see the results but um just believing that it’s possible and just knowing that it’s going to happen um you know I talked before I won zoza last year I talked about you know I know I’m going to win again it’s just a matter when right is it going to be tomorrow is it going to be what you know but it’s going to happen um so I know I still have it in me um and that’s what’s exciting is that after Augusta you know it sucked to finish like that and it sucked to lose a Scotty but at the end of the day you know I know I had three more Majors coming up and and prep for that and just get things as sharp as possible and um just come out as you know strong so it’s it’s obviously nice to get off to the start with the way the Masters went and now starting well does it feel like a similar sense of belief yeah I mean uh it’s yeah I think at the end of the day you know I no one can tell me you know how how good or bad I’m going to play it’s just knowing what’s what’s inside my head and between the years of of just saying okay we’re going to go do it doesn’t matter if it feels good or not you know today the range session wasn’t good and probably stayed out there a few more minutes right before my tea time and just you figure it out and that’s what I’ve learned is you just figure out with whatever you have and and play golf go next to Mike eight fall by Colin once the rain subsided did it did it feel like a green light day out there and and secondly can you take us inside that heater you caught on that front nine uh I mean it still felt like I mean the rain felt like it was going on all the way until our you know fifth sixth seventh hole um and it sucks because it seems like it’s going to be pretty nice for these afternoon guys um to take advantage of that look I mean the the little five run birdie was just me just playing solid Golf and sometimes when the PCH drop that’s what happens right but for the most part um that’s the kind of golf I’m going to ask for myself uh over the next two days in 36 holes is just stay present hit your shots execute them and if the putts drop the putts drop um but really not force anything and I wasn’t forcing anything out there especially uh throughout all of today uh Colin what was your experience getting to the golf course this morning did you encounter delays difficulties and what was the conversation in the clubhouse um yeah I think I snuck my way in pretty quickly I I didn’t have his delay I think I was probably one of the last few players to get in uh without any chaos kind of talked my way through um but yeah you know it’s first off it’s unfortunate for you know the the person that did pass away earlier today I mean I don’t think that’s getting talked about enough um or at all you know so you know my my wishes and prayers are within that family’s uh you know blessings but look uh it was a little chaotic I mean I woke up at 5:00 today and I’ll be honest I was a little tired um you know as the day morning tea times you know you slowly wake up but you had that jolt of energy um as a lot of things were balancing back and forth and uh by the time I I went into the the workout trailer and I knew I had to focus and not worry about anyone else um it’s very hard to do that when things are going around you and trust me there a lot of things happen sometimes and people don’t know about it but um I have a job to do this week and uh you know decent position through 36 no matter how kind of things play out today go next to seven Follow by 12 how did you replenish your confidence level after a stretch where you were struggling earlier this year yeah I mean I it was a pretty flat you know start of the year um I don’t for me the the confidence doesn’t go away I think the confidence is always there I mean even when I wasn’t playing well I still felt like when I teed it up on that first hole like I can go out and shoot 65 sometimes you know you learn the lesson really quick and you run into a brick wall and you realize that day is not going to be that day but um the confidence is always there it’s just a matter of seeing you know if I if I can hit if I can go on the Range and see eight shots in a row or five shots in a row that are all the same and exactly what I want the confidence is even more right and that just gives you the trust it’s not confidence is up but the trust is there um so the confidence never got went away it’s just being able to trust the golf swing and freeing up from there what was wrong with the the range session today uh I just was kind of coming out of it and the drives were missing a little right um I saw it on the First t-shot on on 10 today um and really the first one I had to hit well was 15 um and just kind of tweaked a little something in the setup and uh worked for the most part do um did getting back with your coach recently have any impact on your recent play at all coincidence or and and maybe just a little bit on how that came to be that you got back yeah we uh you know I ended it with Mark Blackburn uh about a week before San Antonio and that that’s when I kind of started talking to Rick um just to reach out as a friend to be honest um not even for the golf swing just more to talk and sometimes you need that sometimes you need someone to just talk it through and and get back to you know play playing golf um we’ve always been you know a kind of player coach where it’s just more about going out and having fun or not having fun but just being creative and and hitting shots and um that’s what we’ve kind of gone back to so just keeping things simple right now and just being able to see our shots visualize them things that I’ve done in the past you know not really trying to reinvent the wheel right now it’s it’s not unusual for players to make changes like this but do you regret doing it in the first place or is it better to have done it no I don’t regret it at all I mean look at at the time let’s call it last fall I I thought I had to and and to be honest if I did it again I probably would do it again because I I thought we had exhausted all of our resources and all the things we tried and nothing was working right so I couldn’t get that shot what I wanted so what do you do you change you know if I kept going down that path who knows where I’d be um so I’m happy that I I went out a different way but you also learn about your yourself and you learn about what kind of golfer you are and what you need um so it took that little span of so many months and uh here we are today M six Colin with the rain this morning at what I was there ever a point you thought that you guys might play lift and clean out there no I I think with zoa Fairways um and and just knowing the the conditions out here you’re I don’t I think they were going to be able to cut it at least and it’s everything’s fairly tight out here so I think with the way the grasses out here um I wasn’t expecting it uh it’s nice if we do but to be honest I I think through 36 I’ve had one really really bad one and that was yesterday and um maybe I got lucky today but for the most part you know it’s not awful Adam here on seven the you mentioned putting well since the Masters do you think it’s as simple as changing that putter uh between rounds a little bit um I mean look this is the same putter I’ve used for the past year and a half now U made a slight grip adjustment with my left hand just kind of made it a little bit stronger and that’s something I’ve always worked on um because just how I grip the club naturally is a fairly weak left-and grip um so just being able to grip it a little stronger just a little bit more neutral essentially um I think has kind of brought all the pieces in together and just been able to stay you know within myself great we’ll wrap it up here at 11 col you had been on that heater take us through the last hole and what but uh you came up short there on the second shot uh just a chunk eight iron um you know I I hit a couple chunky and I got away with it that one I did not and yeah thanks for your time Colin thanks guys
