yours today again check out desertfox golf.com [Music] Hello friends and welcome back to course of Life podcast proud to be presented by our friends at Desert Fox golf I’m Michael along side Alex and Alex it was a tradition unlike any other yes it was the Masters at Augusta National the 75th presentation of the green jacket I don’t know if you caught that little thing that they snuck in there very quietly also the 90th edition of the Masters and I know what you’re going to say we saw a new era Dawn at Augusta but you’re not going to say what I’m going to say and that is that this is Scotty sheffer’s era the first player to win the players backto back the only player other than Tiger Woods to come into Augusta ranked as the top player in the world and win twice the fourth youngest player to win twice at Augusta read him Scotty Sheffer with her his most unorthodox footwork is playing Tiger esque golf he’s the guy right now and we’ve always been wondering you know who will it be at the moment what’s the big three what’s the big four who are The Perennial Stars we’re finally reaching a moment where we’ve got a guy a one and for the first time since Tiger Woods the dominance most resembles what we saw from tiger in the late ’90s and early 2000s it’s been woefully impressive and you’re right the second Green Jacket really helped cement that announcement to and especially what we saw happen on the back nine on Sunday Sheffer made birdies down the stretch and everyone else except for uh LV obor fell away everyone else fell away everyone else fell apart on the back but got something we always saw happen with tiger people were in the hunt and then they made the back n they got to Amen Corner and their game fell apart yeah and Scotty shuffler went in the opposite direction the only one who stuck around and who I know you want to talk about is a potential future star of this game in oberg yeah it is the sheffler era right now and he’s doing tiger likee things and that he’s not only resilient like you said but he seems to be just kind of beating and punishing his opponents to death as he wins these events and the biggest ones on the biggest stages to boot as well but it must be said that this ludvig oberg kid and it’s oberg it’s not aberer it’s O and and and oh my to to Tribute Vern lanquist was he amazing this week in his first major championship I know he’s already kind of a household name he’s top 10 ranked in the world he’s a PJ tour winner but it was his first major championship and he finished runner up at the Masters that is gutsy stuff he continued to show up on the biggest stages like it is the Scotty shuffler era Scotty shuffler is very much here and in the moment but if you if you’re that person and you already want to look for what’s next you look no further than the guy who finished second yeah I mean I mean oberg’s play was phenomenal uh does he have maybe the the joy of coming in here and maybe not having played it not knowing how bad things could go if you’re not playing well because C ly has been playing very well over the last year just like Scotty schuffler has been playing very well over the last three years so obber also though was making good decisions out there on the course the entire the entire four days we saw that very it’s exciting because you you know when you just pair these two guys it’s like wow this this just kind of fell in our lap really quickly I don’t think we’ve ever had this conversation but all of a sudden we’ve got Scotty Sheffer as the preeminent golfer in the world American Star and now we we have a European star to boot on the other side of Ryder cups in years and decades to come who could be as good or better in the long term of his career this U this is a new rivalry we really haven’t given much thought to but sheffler and oberg head-to-head down the stretch of major championships for years if not decades to come that that could be our new reality in golf and and I don’t hate it at all I mean it’d be nice to have that kind of back and forth going on because it seems like one other player right up every once in a while to do something in terms of international players Rory who knows if he whatever is going to happen to him in terms of continues to elude W Tommy Fleetwood had a great Sunday yep too little too late still always and if we look at the other Americans that were on this board Max hom fell apart then again we know he’s really putting in the commitment to turn his game around and become a top player in the world and he’s certainly done that morawa a two-time major Champion fell apart yeah and Bryson de Shambo those those 3D printed irons did him well on day one but other than that they didn’t do him very well man I just got to laugh at Bryson that guy is just constantly tinkering he’s like the new age padri Harrington yeah um but with a more a more nerdier twist to him and yeah bless his heart he had a good finish with the new weirdo Club so shout out to Bryson for getting it done his own way and and yeah you know John ROM not very notably showing up at all like like Rory is well too so it’s interesting to see those things uh with the notable players and now let’s get to the week that was for for Tiger Woods while we’re talking about the stars because I laid out a very Elementary list of guidelines and quota on last week’s episode and I said play to the weekend keep the cud Street and just finish the four rounds now quite literally Mike he did hit that quota but at at the possible achievement level let’s say he I mean uh yes he he surprisingly made the weekend in position only one over par over the first two days but how much physically and mentally did having to do those what 22 23 5 in the morning Friday turn around te off 48 minutes later yeah how much of a toll that do on his his body that has been through so much and his his psyche I’m sorry I know probably mentally strong but it just wears you down I don’t I don’t put him in that he’s not Scotty sheffler mentality right now and it’s that draw getting the Thursday afternoon Friday morning combo instead of the Thursday morning Friday afternoon combo at his age that’s like almost like a kill shot if you give him that Thursday afternoon Friday morning draw he’s got no time to recover between rounds one and two with a weather delay you get the inevel where where he’s double playing on Friday and and that led to exactly what you saw with the disastrous 82 on Saturday it all strings together at age 48 for him he needs everything to fall his way for him to contend in a future Augusta yeah I I I mean if there’s I I say this in the same breath I don’t think Tiger Woods will ever win a major championship again if he is to ever win a major championship again it’s going to be an Augusta I I mean because he rises to the occasion unlike anywhere else it’s the course he knows so well it also makes no sense it’s such a course he shouldn’t be able to do well here in his condition it’s just not good for him anymore he has to walk it’s one of the Hest courses they play all year it just doesn’t make sense to me a very interesting week for Tiger Woods indeed now let’s get to the lighter side of the headlines because tiger on Sunday morning we were wondering what he was going to look like showing up for his final round could he finish it and all of a sudden Mikey showed up with a new swing coach who who happened to be his son Charlie how about that for for a headline drop on Sunday morning well sometimes you just got to go younger and uh that’s right hey who coached who here who who’s the coach in this this relationship here well you know sometimes a student becomes the master and uh so very quickly Charlie Woods giving out swing tips to his dad there for the Sunday at Augusta a really cool moment for Neil Shipley the guy who won low amiter yeah he got to enjoy that weekend knowing he was going to spend Sunday night at Butler cabin and then play with tiger and meet both tiger and Charlie on the range at Sunday very special stuff there I I always think it’s funny though when the low Amer is the only Amer that makes the weekend I mean yes you are still the low Amer you made the weekend but the other guys just couldn’t compete and they just fell away I I don’t want to I don’t want to belittle the efforts that they did there you know being able to make it to Augusta is amazing but it it just always staks a little weird to me yeah it’s an interesting Vibe indeed but nonetheless he knew he was at Butler cabin so shout out uh to the lam there uh for getting it uh in the position to play with tiger on Sunday tiger limps to that dead last finish yeah uh let’s talk fashion real quick cuz I know the Jason day fashion malbon golf in stuck your eye oh I I mean I saw when we saw him playing Thursday on Friday I mean that outfit I I’m not a big malbon fan anyway but baggy all over the place massive Pockets that you could easily see uh it just it just was an odd look and he had on a vest for a short time before Augusta told him to take it off just gigantic like not even 72 Point what 96 Point font that was maybe something something even larger than that probably yeah just just a little bit too bold it’s not me really hating on the malbon brand it’s just the idea that some of those looks are just not fits for Augusta those are fits that work at many many golf courses around the country and play wonderfully at lots of different venues I’m not sure that work worked for Augusta ntion yeah I I don’t think it was a good look and we know Augusta is the strictest of all dress codes yes so you know it it happens but uh yeah I was not a fan of his look whatsoever I would I would rather go with the monoc look of Adam Scott that he does which I’m not a either yeah than that horrible look of maon that that that day was wearing I’m sorry yeah that that was a pass for me definitely pass uh let’s also talk about the uh the Master’s app never gets enough credit how great the Master’s app is how good the coverage is how free the coverage is you can watch literally everything all weekend anywhere you are there was a point on Saturday when I was like I need to go I need to go out to the grill and make dinner oh that’s right I have my phone I can just put on the Masters and watch the the groups play as I’m as I’m grilling out on outside oh I need to go to the bathroom oh that’s all right I can just sit there with the phone in my lap and watch it while I’m in the bathroom The Bard out just how about how about the load time on those video streams when you pull instantaneous instantaneous load time even with my Rinky Dink internet honestly they were they fast as hell it was very impressive and the my group feature was awesome you could basically Point click select your own players and then just kind of get your own customized broadcast that’s just showing the players that you want to see play the Masters it it doesn’t get any more customized than that it needs to be shouted out every year for just a moment here in this podcast that the Masters have created the best app in sports you can debate me on that any way which way you want it’s it’s it’s unbelievable what they’ve done and year after year they continue to innovate you know it’s amazing what happens when you have a bunch of multi-millionaires and billionaires as your membership and what they’re willing to put into something to make it available for free to everyone budget helps in this world budget always helps uh let’s let’s wrap up our master’s talk here with ver lanquist because it was his final Masters I would you say that more than Jim Nance Vern Lundquist is the voice of golf for Our Generation he could be because of the longevity of covering the Masters and you got to remember that our generation doesn’t if you don’t have a lot of exper watching golf one of the few golf Productions you did see in your life Mike was the movie Happy Gilmore ver lanquist yeah very well featured in Happy Gilmore Vern list I believe got 10 cup Cameo as well Vern lanquist is that guy he is that voice of golf Jim Nance may be the the uh preeminent broadcaster currently but in terms of Legacy voice of golf I think you got it right I I sat on a plane with him from Atlanta to Augusta two years ago when I went to the Masters and I freaked out just being a row away from Vern lanquist the Legends and yeah it’s last Masters the final sign off on 16 was actually pretty emotional Sunday evening yeah I think he he sounded like he was kind of on the edge of Tears in the beginning part of the broadcast when they CBS did do a little nod to him um and then at the very end he seemed uh like he was he was on the Virg tear once again and his his calls from from of course from from everything yes sir Jack Nicholas yes sir Jack Nicholas yes sir I me the chip tiger yeah uh so many iconic calls from Vern’s days and you know who who do you think they’re going to put in the tower now at 16 could we see no showing up now in the tower at 16 col no pretty good vibe I don’t know maybe they move Trevor imman could be my guess or Ian Baker Finch may move over something like that to just keep seniority intact coln could be a good move though but I’ll be very interested to see who fills the shoes very tough chose to fill indeed at 16 it is indeed so Vern lung quiz called off his final call at the Masters Scotty sheffler two time winner at Augusta we’ll see uh how many more Majors he can win this year I don’t think he’s going to get all four because he’s gonna have a baby in a couple weeks so that’s really gonna mess up yeah I was I was wondering if you were gonna come with the Grand Slam talk so we’ll sa that save that for valal if if it depends on how quickly the baby comes and how quickly he can get back out there and keep playing we’re on baby watch now the whole world of golf is uh let’s keep talking about major championships in the World of Golf and the best players playing their game right now because we’re headed to the lpga’s Chevron championship and by we I really mean you Alex you’re you’re literally there right now I am I’m just north of Houston tournaments in The Woodlands but I’m at my annual hotel stay in Egypt Texas that’s right Mike we have an Egypt in Texas it’s as glorious and small as you think it would be but I’m great to be here already coming off a day at the course I can already report that the greens are pure as ever it’s the second year at Carlton Woods Country Club uh had the chance to immediately uh catch up with Britney lincom friend of the show we’ll be featuring her on an upcoming episode but let’s get right into it because I had an awesome conversation with one of the executive staff members who runs the show at the Chevron Championship here on this week’s podcast joining us from the tournament Casey Seaman who’s helping run the show here Casey how you doing today I’m great thanks for having me it’s great to be here great to be in the Woodlands area as well too now I’m from Austin but for our national golf audience explain the significance of the woodlands to the Houston Golf Scene and just how large of community it is yeah it’s interesting The Woodlands is uh kind of its own bubble here uh just outside of Houston uh but it’s an incredible Golf Community um they’ve got a couple professional events here in town and um the the people that live here are are true fans of golf and um theyve really uh welcome this spent with open arms definitely so in terms of your background I’m a little curious how you get into working for golf tournament in the executive space but tell learn a little bit about your professional background and what got you to the Chevron Championship yeah so so uh I’ve been in the golf business uh for quite a while now started right out of school um most recently um spent about seven years working for anuka sain Stam oh very cool past champion of the event so nice she got her own event on the lpj now she does yeah down in uh kind of the St Pete area in November so um it’s cool to kind of have that tie between her and um she’s won this event three times she’s a pillar of the lpj it’s a great tie to have to obviously yeah very cool awesome so in terms of this event this is unique because a lot of events on the LPGA have to do a lot of work throughout the year to get all the players here you’re in a nice position and that this is the first major championship of the season so you don’t quite have to do as much of that work getting the players here but explain to people what goes into event management in the actual 12month process of running a golf tournament absolutely yeah it’s a to your point it’s a camp Miss uh event for every single player on Tu wants to be here this week um but yeah it’s a really a truly yearr round um process we’ve got a big team here in the Woodlands uh kind of planning throughout the year and um this is really you know lpga’s Crown Jewel major that we take a lot of pride in um you know most of our majors are owned and operated by um governing bodies and outside but this is uh you know we found such great Partners in Carlton Woods at Chevron and uh we’re just we’re just really excited with how this is built up awesome so let’s talk about a few cool things regarding the tney experience that fans who attend and also fans on TV might see as well which are very unique now one thing I’m always harping on is I love the idea of fans being able to actually do a little golf while they see the golf tournament it sounds like you guys have a chip for charity feature and an opportunity where fans can actually get lessons here at the event as well too yeah we want to make this a really interactive experience so we’ve got our Texas green floating out in the lake on 18 where fans are gonna have a chance to chip to the green raise some money for charity uh our LPGA Foundation is here they’re um they’ve got their lesson zones where our lpj professionals will come out and uh give complimentary lessons to fans and attendance we’ve got our girls golf programming here so it’s a little bit of everything it’s not just a golf event we want it to be a really familyfriendly experience for everybody see that floating green all week on TV coverage as well and they see it this week on an NBC what is it about 60 70 80 yards out to there from it’s about 50 it’s really not it’s it is yeah it’s in that zone that you don’t really want to be hitting that shot too often but uh we’re gonna have all the caddies are gonna have a chance to do it they’re gonna have a little competition and then we’re gonna let fans do it the rest of the week so it’s gonna be a lot of fun very cool and I also know for people who don’t understand the context of Houston and the kind of industry that comes through Houston um there’s a lot of stem initiatives within Chevron sponsorship of the event explain kind of what’s going into that yeah it’s really cool so Chevron uh when when we start first started talking to them about this event they told us we’re not just sponsoring a golf tournament we want this to be a year round 365 day a year activation within the Houston Community um this is the third year of their partnership and they’ve already given back over5 million into the community just through this event um so they’re really passionate about um bringing out a lot of their activations here we’ve got some um uh designing shoes with Nike kind of the science behind that um we’ve got a virtual reality experience we’ve got their stem zone so um it’s really important and I think it really just adds to the flavor of the event and makes a great experience for the fans definitely yeah a little bit of something for everyone even if you’re not interested in golf full til full-time I get that totally appreciate that but the one thing that I know everyone can get on board with is the 19th Hole features at any event we’re a big 19th Hole Centric podcast like talking about 19 content um I saw there what maybe put some sort of popup Vineyard and all sort of concessions around yeah we’ve got a great new vineyard on the green we’re calling it here where you can sit down grab a bottle of wine sit uh and take in soak in some of the should be it is yeah we brought in a couple of the local restaurants to add a little flavor to the event and we just want it to be something different and fun for families to come out and do cool again it’s Casey here with the Chevron championship team let’s do a quick rapid fire couple questions here uh how about guessing the winning score I’m not asking you to pick a winner I’m asking you to guess the winning score this Carl Woods gosh you’re catching me on my heels cuz I forget what it was last year but I’m I’m going to say um you know we did have some course Renovations after the event last year so I’m going to go with uh 600 you’ve been out there you’ve seen the cors yeah great they tightened it up a little bit made it a little more uh challenging for the players so we’ll see how it rave reviews though so and let’s talk specifically about the 18th hole which we’re looking at right here explain what our Golf Channel and NBC fans are going to see this weekend when they watch the broadcast at 18 L it’s a really exciting poll you saw it last year we had a playoff with um Angel and Lilia and um it’s a great risk reward hole and um we’ve actually rearranged a little bit of the uh Grand stands and Hospitality areas around the green so it’s make the green a little bit different um and it’s gonna be exciting to see how it plays out very cool Casey we always end with our 19th whole question so this is the toughest one of the entire interview when you get into the clubhouse after a day on the course what’s your order what’s your 19th whole meal and drink that you like to have it changes a little bit but yesterday we had a little event down by the chipping area and and um The Club at Carlton Woods makes a a wicked um uh watermelon spicy jalapeno watermelon margarita so I’m gonna stick with that I love that but I think that might be the first watermelon margarita answer in the five year history of that question that’s why here Casey excited for the Chevron championship this weekend thanks again for hopping on absolutely thanks for having me great to hear from Casey from the Chevron Championship staff uh you know the the Chevron a big deal in the world of golf as we know a lot of other stuff going on there what what what else are you see what else is happening there right now now is we get ready for Nelly Cordo to win a major and win five for five in a row here yeah you just you you you hit the lead right there getting to the prediction she was the first person I saw when I got on the premises was just Nelly quter talking to her coach leaning up against her car just living life if that’s not foreshadowing I don’t know what is I think wow actually yeah I didn’t even speak it out that far but you just did so there you go sorry everybody else but uh it was good to see the field out there ran into a bunch of past guests of the podcast and also got to follow for a few holes with Malia Nam you remember we had her on a few months ago in the course of Life LPGA rookie from Hawaii playing in her first major championship so shout out to Malia for making it into the field uh very excited to see how she Tams Carlton Woods it’s a fantastic course Mike it Demands a lot of the players this isn’t going to be any birdie shootout here I’m expecting single digits under par and yeah like we’re in that same position when I talked to Britney lincom it’s like can anyone beat Scotty Sheffer can beat Nelly cor that’s what we’re here to find out this that’s the question here the odds going into the week if you remember last week Scotty Sheffer was going off at four to one and the closest behind him was Rory at 10 to one Corda going off at 5 to one and the second favorite Jin young Co 22 to one odds oh okay massive Gap here in who they they think is gonna win this tourn you got the board you got the odds in front of you there uh I can get the odds in front of me real quickly what do you what do you want to know well here’s a name that I want to keep on everyone’s radar if you are looking to make a play out there cuz I’m I’m going to be in Vegas this week and I’m probably going to make a play on Wednesday on the event I’m going to a recent guest Mike that we had on a few weeks ago she’s been in contention a lot in the LPGA in recent months she was working very hard on her pudding today she seems to have everything in order I’m talking about the Swede the solheim cup hero Maya Stark we had her on a couple months ago uh and she seems to be in the right type of form this is the type of course where I think she could make birdies and bunches and put herself in contention this week okay okay watch out for Mya start this week that’s going to be my one pick uh but again check out the Chevron champy chip you heard her from Casey it’s going to be a fun time for anyone in Central Texas looking to check it out and all weekend on NBC they got the NBC time slot uh so it should be a bre great broadcast all weekend Long hey over on our YouTube channel if you’re not checking us out there you you probably should be every once in a while we got a video headed up there soon from uh when you were at the uh Valero Texas open Dylan woo doing a whole practice round there that’s coming up this week we got some Vegas content coming up soon too because you’re going to be headed there for your uh semiannual for how many times do you go to Vegas now so my it’s funny because remember my wife’s sister is like a BigTime Dart thrower so this is like the national like convention and competition for Dart throwers around the US they all gather here in Vegas once a year and I get to witness it all so we’re I’m going to put together a little video not only the experience but watching the tournament and of course Mike I’m going to hit a jackpot and we’re going to go viral on YouTube because I’m going to win like what five six figure jackpot I think and then we’re going to be really floating in money after this trip that’s the game plan all right can you we’re going to invest it all back into the podcast right and watch it watch it go down the toilet as we do that well a little bit of both yeah a little bit of both but yeah fun time coming in Vegas be sure to follow on YouTube course Life podcast and follow on Instagram at codcast and course life Alex for all the drama from Sin City this week let’s do a little tuned in Alex uh lots of stuff going on out there I I’m tuned in to just watching the same stuff every week which is not a whole lot right now but I know you’re keeping up with everything yeah I got a new kind of planet Earth esque feature for you on Nat Geo that just dropped recently uh it’s called the Queens narrated by Angela Basset who I love I love all things Angela Basset um she’s awesome and and basically it’s kind of like a Nat Geo Series where look at different insects uh different beasts different animals in Nature’s ecosystem and and focus on the mothers the queen ends the the queen bees that look after the fort and make everything go in this world and in the food chain cycle uh there was an amazing episode on Lions and the queen lions in the African deserts uh but the one that makes your skins crawl is watch the one on the armies of ants that flow through jungle all over the world and I’ll be sure to you’ll be sure to have couple extra itches on you before you go to sleep at night um so yeah the Queens very interesting kind of planet Earth spin-off series on Nat Geo is what I’m tuning to lately all right let’s look ahead to this weekend’s PGA Tour event it’s still going on the Masters happened and they get to keep playing and that means they head to Hilton Head just north of me for the RBC Heritage the best course to follow up Augusta m gorgeous one right here in the low country and as of this morning it’s Monday as usual recording on Monday evening as of this morning Scotty Sheffer is in the field yeah we’ll see about that yeah but now based off my earlier narrative I think I’m going to enter what I’m going to call oberg Smash season which means I’m just going to smash bet ludvig oberg until he wins on the PJ tour okay that is my new game plan for the spring perable fure he’s going off at like 12 13 to1 odds he’s high up there in the board it’s a surprisingly good field for Heritage shout out to them I believe getting signature billing helps a lot but a lot of the big names are going to be there playing of course like you mentioned which is a fun watch it’s just a cool watch it’s a shorter course it’s been around for a while but kind of plays tricks on the eye and it always leads to a little bit of drama when you get to that 18th the lighthouse in the background now the question I have though is that we know Fitzpatrick is the defending champion and Jordan spe has done quite well here the last few years has is this the only course he can play well on anymore though yeah seriously really it this this is one of those ones where he does show up he had a show up win at the Valero Texas open a few years ago when he had no form so yeah all these Master’s adjacent courses that aren’t Augusta National is where Jordan Speed seemed to find a little bit of form so maybe he does this week God it was a disaster for him in August nine or 10 on one of the holes La last who has a better chance of winning another major Jordan spe or Rory mroy I mean right geez I know what I feel like right now and you think about the crazy part is how far removed they are between the two of them they’re a combined 15 16 years removed from a major Rory’s about a decade and Jordan’s going on several years on his own right so pretty crazy to think that those two guys are without a major in that in that long of a Time crazy crazy all right let’s get to the turn in this week’s guest Alex if we’ve been saying uh you’re headed to Vegas this week and uh that means we get to talk a little Vegas with this week’s guest yeah that’s right Vegas POC found him through the YouTube algorithm he does some awesome Innovative content where he showcases kind of the underbelly of Vegas he’s reporting on the things that not your typical influencer might showcase you know what’s really going on with the Casino that’s going bankrupt you know what’s really going on behind the scenes of Sin City uh it’s a fascinating account at casino comp wallet to follow and Vegas polyc himself a fascinating man with some great stories coming to the [Music] podcast next up it is indeed Vegas week for the podcast of my annual pilgrimage to the land of endless slots getting soft and Scandal and one particular Vegas influencer caught my eye recently he runs the casino comp Wallet account on Instagram it’s Vegas polyc joining us on the course of Life polyc how you doing today well hello hello hello people like when I start with that so absolutely that’s the intro to every video that you hear on social media from paully C uh very curious about your background I know people are very trans fixed with your accent I I’m in Texas now but I grew up in the Northeast so I was around a lot of girls from Long Island New Jersey my college days but give everyone a little bit of taste of your background and how you eventually got to Vegas okay so I started um you know a pay phone company when I was like 20 years old my mother basically handed it to me she said do this this will be good for you you know I schmuck around with it for a couple of years just taking every quarter and either gambling it away or wasting it on God knows what and I grew up in a great area and that there were a lot of intelligent people around me and my neighbor uh I grew up in Rosland New York more or less it’s really Albert my neighbor say to me hey you’re an idiot you can make a lot of money with what you’re doing but you’re just schmuck away the money I will give you all of my bar mitzvah money and he did he had $25,000 wow and I will run the financial end of it and you give me the ideas so it was my ideas and his structure and he didn’t let me make any money for three years uh and he took that and he built it up into a $6 million company wow and uh it was sold on June 30th 1994 and by April 22nd 1995 all the money was gone I had gambled it all away so I found out later on I found out in oh about 2019 that I was born with a genetic mutation called ccaat so I do not produce dopamine or serotonin at any normal levels I only produce it at 20% rate so I had an entire career in the Telecommunications industry but I always was transfixed by Las Vegas because it was getting me where I needed to be I don’t know if you’ve ever heard people smoke marijuana or do anything they say look it’s getting me where I need to be so I learned at a very early age that information I used to read the encyclopedia when I was a kid and especially gambling information and especially gambling got me to where I needed to be so I’ve been reading about this stuff as soon as I could find it at the age of you know I want to say seven but it probably was 11 or 12 yeah there would be one article in the New York Times about gambling on page number 14 and I remember one of the very first things I ever saw was something with Hilton uh and them them acquiring a property on the strip and this was honestly in the 7s and I was born in 64 so I had to be 10 years old eight year I don’t even know how old I was yeah and then that’s all we had for a long time was newspapers so I was in telecommunications uh and then I got back into um the payones in a big way in 2015 I got this huge contract with Google so I was I was really really in debt I was in debt you know a ton of money from gambling and I got this huge contract with Google and I worked for them for about six years and all the money back enough to pay back all the money that I owed from debt and then the pandemic just but while I was making that money I developed an app that sat between the Gambler and the casino and it was called Casino comp wallet yeah and I really thought it was going to go somewhere but I was delusional nobody in the casino industry really wants it they want to continue to use snail and to control their own uh profiles but I know that if I ever found the exact right people uh to stand behind it what it would become is it would become sort of like a Master Card for gambling you don’t remember this because you’re too young but back in the days the banks themselves used to actually issue the credit cards before visa and MasterCard rolled everybody up into two platforms there used to be hundreds of platforms all of the banks and they cleared through it and the banks actually traded their equity uh and it became two huge companies but what happened was two years ago I started doing content creation to promote the app and the tal start W dog and I’ll never forget I always tell people this story I would do a video with like my dog licking my head and it would get 20,000 views and my girl and my girlfriend said to me the the algorithm loves you that’s what she said to me and I said I know I don’t know why I’m a nerd I have no Talent you know I I’m I stayed in the basement for 57 years so I don’t know why this is happening so it just sort of grabbed me and you know I just started doing it and you know now I grow every day 500,000 followers I have 620,000 followers I don’t know what the endgame is I’m barely monetizing with it because I refuse to take money from anybody so I can’t organically and as a matter of fact at 5:00 today I’m going to do a house tore for a $5 million house that’s for sale so I I don’t need to prove this to you but I could show you my text and the woman said well how much do you charge and I said I can’t take money because if I take money I’m gonna get all neurotic did I do a good job did she get I think a lot of people would sore that you would have taken money for all the posts you’ve done recently with all your content crazy nothing wow so what happens is it shuts me down because then I start to get nervous and as long as I’m doing it as a Mitzvah which is like as long as I’m doing it as a good deed yeah I’m okay with it I appreciate that no that’s very cool to see tomorrow I’m going to get a Lamborghini I think but I’m not getting paid to drive the Lamborghini but they’re going to let me drive a Lamborghini that very cool before we get more into your content I want to talk about that that concept though what you created with Casino comp wall because a lot of people that go to Vegas I’m just now learning this in like my fourth or fifth visit there now don’t know anything or understand the idea of comps in Vegas and explain to people just from a base level explain comps and and the different levels of them and how people can take advantage of them when they go to Vegas okay so the way comps are figured out is by something called your Theo which which is short for theoretical so they can’t really worry about what you won or what you lost uh in the short run because there’s so much what’s called variance in gambling yeah so you could sit down and the this could really happen if you’re playing a good game like Blackjack you could sit down and play Blackjack properly and there’s a card well the card’s right here coincidentally there’s a card that you can buy and I’m going to be basic strategy card yeah basic strategy card and you could play the first 100 hours and you could win you could be ahead because the house Edge if you’re playing a perfect game with great rules is only 0.26% which is one quarter of 1% so the luck is going to be way more important than the house hat and that’s why they don’t want to deal Blackjack anymore because it’s such a tight game but if you’re playing slots they know that they’re taking for instance MGM takes 99.2% according to the lat quarterly out of every dollar that you put in so you put in $100 they’re going to give you back $980 on average so they can track that really well so now if you think about that if you play $1,000 in coin in they know that they’re going to make $902 9 99.2% so that $902 cents they give you back what’s known as a comp on that and the comp that they like to get now every place is different but the comps are anywhere from 10 to 40% so depending on how tight the house is with those comps they’re going to give you anywhere from 9 to $36 in free stuff on that ,000 in coin in and that’s what a comp is and then they can apply that to your hotel room so as an example let’s just say you did $3,000 coin in at a very cheap property was over comping so let’s just say it was Circus Circus which only charges maybe $75 a night they’re going to give you a free room they’re going to give you a free room on a $3,000 coin in guaranteed AB but if you put $3,000 into the win where the average room is $7 800 a night they could care less got it okay so that explains the levels very nicely I’m curious what’s like the most absurd comp that you’ve been given or or what’s the highest level you’ve seen of comping in Vegas okay now I no but that that’s going to be like a 30 to one minute 30 second to one minute story I’ll tell it as fast as I can perfect yeah when I when I was gambling really heavy uh when I got my million dollars cash and and some stock and some other nonsense when I sold my company when I was gambling really heavy uh the week that I actually lost a million dollar the first night that I was there I won $100,000 from The Mirage I ran over to the desert and I lost it on the tables in about an hour in fact I was buying in so fast and furious with the cash that they were counting the cash at the table next to me they couldn’t even count it on the table so I lost $100,000 I ran back over to the Mirage shock of all shocks I won another $100,000 I ran across the street to the desert and which is no longer there by the way now that’s the win that’s where the win is and I lost $100,000 again with them counting it at the other table so I lost $200,000 you would have to know me really well to understand this I didn’t even ask for a cup of coffee I just wanted to get out of there as I’m walking out the door someone Taps me on the shoulder wow my immediate thought was what did I do wrong did I violate something am I going to get in trouble are they going to say to me where get this cash from it was the casino host and he said to me Paul we don’t want you to leave empty-handed because I was leaving with with nothing not even a cup of coffee jez he took me over over to the cage and he gave me $10,000 in cash so that was the biggest comp I’ve ever gotten was that $10,000 in cash immediately wow that’s that’s quite the story I appreciate that from again Vegas polyc here joining us for a little Vegas 101 as I get ready for remember I lost 190 because I lost 200 it gave me back 10 right you did get the 10 back that that’s good footnote I appreciate that let’s talk about some of your content as it pertains to Vegas because there’s a lot going on in the city uh you get right to the point with lots of Juicy and fascinating stories and scandal from Vegas um was your content always like that or how how how have your content and your videos morphed like throughout the last few years well I you know I really regret the fact that I have to tell the truth because you can start at the top of the strip just say the stratus here and I can go down every prop um in general and I know exactly what’s going on in there because I’m just so over involved and you know when you run into a property like Resorts World and you know that they’re only making $200 million in total cash flow on a $4.3 billion investment which is an Roi of like 4.8% and you you stand in front of the place and you do a story about that a you know it’s a negative story if I was to go by if I was to read the financials for which I did so I read the financials for B which is the Tropicana on the south end of the place where I could really see factual information B has a $56 million operating loss I I don’t even know how that’s possible I’ve never seen that in the casino in other words they don’t even make a dollar to pay all the interest that they ow they don’t even make a dollar to pay for depreciation to pay for anything so a lot of the stories of these uh Mega Resorts Caesars doesn’t make a profit they do have nice cash flow that they use to pay for for depreciation and interest oh okay but they don’t make a profit and they owe $12 billion in hard loans and another $12 billion in capital leases so they’re not making a profit so a lot it does not really work anymore you cannot take $4 billion do and I’ll be interesting to see because Tilman fertita has that property on the Strip where he has to put $4 billion do at six acres it’s right across the street from the ARA the 4 billion investment and then get the return it’s not there anymore because think about it if you have to pay eight and change 8% and change although right now those money rates are more like seven and a half right but just in round numbers if you have to pay 8% interest on $4 billion if you have to get a return on that that’s a million dollars a day in interest before you make a dollar of profit yeah you know people don’t realize this one I know for a fact and then the one people don’t realize what do you think the electric bill is for one of these megalopolis resorts on the strip I couldn’t even begin to guess wow I mean what is it it’s anywhere from to $35,000 a month golly geez I’m sorry I’m sorry a day said that a day a day even crazi 25 to $335,000 a day what do what do you think and these things you can look well you can’t look up the electric bill but you can look up the real estate taxes the real estate taxes at the balagio are $20 million a year wow and I haven’t looked up the real estate taxes on the fondom blue but I I would I would guess they’re $22 million a year because it’s probably you you’ve done a good job highlighting some unique properties real quick touch on a couple recent videos you did where you highlighted just the value of like Prime strip Vegas land like small little one and two acre plots going for what several million dollars it seems like I mean describe you’ve already described it from a casino perspective but just from a real estate perspective the the god samples of money it’s very interesting because Steve wi paid paid $75 million for the 300 acres that City Center the Cosmopolitan New York New York and park MGM sit on right and other things but that and I think also um the T-Mobile Arena where all of that say he paid $75 million for $300 Acres if you do the math on that that’s only $250,000 an acre bargain so there was a little strip of land between the Bellagio and Cosmopolitan one and a half acres that 30 years ago was valued for $375,000 because one and a half times 250,000 is 375,000 MGM just paid the $54 million for it which is 30 Mill you know 30 whatever million do an acre I did the actual math I have the math on the video so when and it was windy that day and it was cold and I stood out there but I knew that video was going to do really well so the really Prime stuff now you know straight on the Strip we have a dream like Tillman fertita he paid I think $40 million an acre for that six acres that’s over there I forgot the exact number it might have been $42 million an acre so the really Prime center strip stuff is around 40 million an acre when you start to get out like when you start to get North you start to get South as an example uh step Steven seagull seagull Mania yeah Steven seagull he paid 75 million for 10 acres more towards the North in front of the convention center but arguably that land is now worth about 12 or 13 million an acre because Brett Torino paid 125 million for the land adjacent to that right next to the font blue 10 acres for15 so that’s going for like 12 million an acre wow when you get up north towards the Sahara there’s a 27 acre lot there I would say that that’s and I’m talking out of my tuckus I’d say that’s worth eight or nine or 10 million dollars that’s insane it’s everywhere from it’s 40 right in the middle right now and then it goes down to 10 and then drops down to five and then you know I mean the people don’t realize that the strip goes all the way down to the m which is you know how many miles is the M from the strip it’s got to be eight or nine miles wow very impressive numb okay so there’s land down there that I did a story on there’s four acres for $12 million so that’s million wow really insane numbers from Vegas policy there and one one other thing that’s really big money that I want to get your take on because it doesn’t seem like you were super enamored with it we all saw the debut of Formula 1 in Las Vegas I’m in a city in Austin Texas that’s had kind of mixed reviews on the F1 race but it’s pretty separated from the city itself what were your overall Vibes on year one of F2 F1 and the potential for year two there you know very mixed emotions my original emotions were extremely selfish because uh my original thoughts were extremely selfish because I would put up any video of them stri of them ripping up the strip and it would I think I did nine of them and out of the nine that I did I think either six or seven went to over went viral went over a million views so I could stand there with my phone and that you know the Turner was knocking out the concrete that’s it yeah and I I those videos got four and a half million views so initially I was like this is the greatest thing ever I’m a content creator I’m so excited I’m getting so many views but as the months went by and as it got closer to the race and I saw what the general public was going through and then of course after the race we found out that there were eight or 10 businesses that got destroyed by it uh and I saw the horror of you know the traffic and the people getting to work and the people you know think about it if you worked on the Strip you you might have spent as much as 10 hours a week an extra hour to get there an extra hour to get home so you had people who uh are spending 10 hours a week is that really fair to ask of salaried employees or employees that are working and and let’s face it you know and this is another conversation I would love to have but let’s face it one of the toughest jobs in the world is to do housekeeping in one of these major hotels let’s just be honest yeah that’s the real truth yeah so you know to ask someone like that to spend another 10 hours a week uh so that Bellagio and the mor and you know the main recipients of that cash were Venetian Bellagio and wi right they got all the money it was only $155 million that came in extra over that normal November so to ask people to suffer for that it’s one of these things where you know the winners and losers it wasn’t really fair like usually things that hit hit Las Vegas it benefits everybody but how did Regular People how did they benefit from the got it I you’re going to have to tell meting perspective indeed yeah I appreciate that um again it’s Casino comp wallet on Instagram you can follow Tik Tok and socials as well for poly C’s content uh real quick we got to address the idiot gamblers I’m I’m a big roulette guy and you did a post recently on some guys playing triple zero a roulette when there was an empty dble zero table just really for the people who are just learning the games and understanding roulette understand what’s going on there and why those idiot Gam exist and make the building so beautiful in Vegas as well okay so roulette basically comes in uh I four versions let me run it down for you so you have single zero roulette with What’s called the partage rule which means that if a color hits they give you back half of your money and that’s at the very highest level that’s a $300 minimum for the most part at the Bellagio I’ve seen I’ve done videos on the partage rule there and then you have single zero roulette where they don’t give you half of your money back that’s 2.35% uh and then you have double zero roulette which is 5% and change for the house and then you have triple zero roulette which is 7.69% the one I stay away from yeah so when you’re betting colors in Las Vegas you can play anywhere from a let’s just say you want to bet red youve come to Las Vegas you want to bet red the price that you’re going to pay the house can vary anywhere from 1.35% and all the way up to 7.69% depending on the limits where you are um and what the rules are so that’s the variation so you have single zero with partage single zero with no partage and I hope I’m saying partage correctly I’ve SE just spell p a r t a g you have double zero and triple zero but I’ll tell you what’s calling so people don’t realize it but it was the mafia themselves who put the double zero on the roulette wheel the r the European roulette wheel had one zero on it and when roulette came to the United States and I’m Italian so I can do this y I’m allowed to do this when roulette came to the United States uh the mafia said hey these idiots over here let let’s throw another zero on the wheel they don’t know what the hell they’re doing so they they started with the double zero roulette I don’t know exactly when I want to say the 50s maybe the 60s in Cuba I haven’t really done the research on when they stuck the double zero on but it blew my mind when three or four or five years ago and again I don’t know the exact date I walked by roulette wheel in Las Vegas and I saw a third zero I went like this you’ve seen it all polyc that’s that’s that was a new one when I see the fourth zero I don’t know what’s gonna happen I’ll probably have an apoplectic fit and just die right there on the floor well pit again Vegas polyc here joining us on the course of life let’s spend the last few minutes doing some quick shot questions so we can get your favorites in Vegas um let’s just start real quick answers for you poy what’s what what what is or was your game of choice at the cinaa it’s Blackjack Blackjack okay cool and um every do any slots any slot of choice at all I’ll throw $100 into the mega whatever because it’s a $10 million Prize or The Wheel of Fortune I enjoy but it’s it’s it’s it’s a sparing $100 here and there because I know that the house has a 9% Edge so it’s you know I’m just throwing my money away yep um well let me say this real quick I’ve been throwing money into slot machines for 20 years yeah and I’ve had one hand pay wow okay there’s a little perspective for people that are just going for the first time there so patience okay um one thing I need to pry out regarding your personal life is you did something amazing that you posted on Instagram you actually spent time out with I believe your ex-wife and your girlfriend at the same time paully C how did you pull that Miracle off that that’s unbelievable well Amry is extremely friendly and my girlfriend’s very cool uh and they met you know seven years ago when I started dating my girlfriend and you know they just don’t have they don’t have anxiety with one another so I love that that’s awesome refreshing to see it was they’re mature they’re mature very cool um for our our people that are visiting and myself as well what’s like a really cool uh happy hour deal or food or drink deal that you like on or near the strip that our listeners should enjoy well ocean ocean one you can drink unlimited for happy hour for 20 bucks which is interesting because and I did a video of this uh in 24 States that’s illegal they don’t want you having unlimited drinking like that the unlimited yeah that makes sense um one thing I saw that you recently found on a live broadcast as well I’m in Texas so I’m in the land of waterburger but you experienced the new waterburger there look like you enjoyed yourself on the patio Vibes there huh it’s just an incredible facility I mean you know I give so much credit to The Architects that come up with some of these places like Red Rock whoever The Architects are for I don’t know who the I don’t know who the Architects are for Red Rock casinos yeah but whoever they are they’re so good at what they did I went to the Green Valley Ranch I was like most beautiful place in the world then I saw Red Rock I was like oh my God but that water burger right there on strip on the corner in front of MGM it is so well done it’s just so well done they have live music upstairs I mean it’s not really a burger joint uh it’s more like a night club Burger Joint I mean you could spend yeah you can spend the whole day there just eating and drinking and listening to the music it’s and they all the screens inside you know Sports almost like a sports book but you know what I’m going to guess and I’m totally talking out of my tuus I’m going to guess their rents $400,000 a month wow okay there’s some perspective and the reason that I’m going to guess that number is because I know another restaurant on the Strip that’s not even close to that good of a location that was paying 250,000 a month so that’s why and that waterburger is I don’t think there’s a better location on the Las Vegas Strip than that waterburger I really don’t awesome very cool we’ll definitely check that out we usually end with what we call our 19th whole question so I’ll just call this your end of the day meal question let’s say you’ve had a long day filming you’re out in the town what’s your favorite place to go and your favorite like meal and drink to have at the end of a long day in Las Vegas okay I don’t I want I want to gatekeep this but I won’t my favorite place to go at the end of a day is what’s known as the North Terrace lounge or bar but anyway I’m going to tell you where it is when you go to the wind Encore on the Wind side there’s a bar called the parasol bar I didn’t even know this place was here so the parisel bar sits in the middle next to the lake of Dreams up here on the right if you go to the door it’s not really you can see it it’s not really marked there’s a little Terrace that sits over the lake of dreams and they keep it open there until 2 o’clock in the morning and you can have a drink and sit there and they play Beautiful music and it reflects off the the lake and for me it’s the most beautiful late late night place in Las Vegas it’s the North Terrace of the the Paris Soul bar yeah the win but I missed that spot so thank you for shouting out the name I’ll be sure to check that view out again amazing again it’s Casino comp wallet on social be sure to follow I’m excited for my trip thanks for getting me hyped up for Vegas and love the content as always and please give us your your signature uh sh sign off as well I will thank thank you for having me Vegas POC byebye [Music] course of Life have Mike hey hey Vegas didn’t get so beautiful overnight there’s a reason those be those casinos are so shiny and beautiful right the money all it all comes from us is is the real answer yeah really it’s yeah all from your losing I’ve never been to Vegas it’s all coming from you pretty much yeah you gota that the moral of the story is get those players cards when you go to casinos in Vegas get those comps they’re literally rewarding you to play at their property so I’ll be doing some of that this week again be sure to follow on social media for all the Vegas content coming your way that’s right we’re on Instagram cors of Life Alex is Alex MW r i n c is me the official podcast account is C podcast Alex is on X formerly known as Twitter course of life one as we’ve said before we’re on YouTube so you can catch us there as well Alex I do want to wish you a happy Patriots Day ah thank you yes that’s right and for Marathon Monday that’s right for everyone who’s not from Massachusetts and New England Patriots day is today uh and Monday and it’s when the uh Boston Red Sox play at like 11:00 a and it’s when they run the Boston Marathon it is it’s a great day of History um I actually got the video sent to me from my mom of the annual Patriots Day Parade in conquered Massachusetts home and start and birthplace of the Revolutionary War don’t at me people from Lexington Massachusetts and uh it was a very patriotic day um full of cheer and red white and blue and looked like it was a good day in a warm day for the Boston marathon runners as well that’s right and uh in the Boston Marathon in the men’s group we were kind of all wiing to see if Evans shabet the uh Kenyon was going to win uh the their third straight Boston marath wow going for the three Pat Uh would be the fifth person to do it in the marathon’s 125 year history however the Ethiopian CE Lama denied them so no Ethiopia and Kenya they got they got the first and second place finishes in the marathon monopolized in the Boston Marathon they that’s right they are all about that Marathon culture they’re very good at it Kenyan Helen obiri defended her title on the women’s side uh and the organizers describ the women’s field as quote historically fast wow okay I don’t think I’m ever G to run a marathon in my life Mike how about you uh no and I certainly wouldn’t be able to do it in two hours 22 minutes as the time as Helen o be did it so absolutely I can’t even do like a I think have you had me run a mile I think it would take me 20 minutes if I even finished a mile I’m bragging I’m bragging about that time remember I ran 5 miles and 46 minutes I’m going to brag about that forever and we’re going to pretend like that happens every year even though I’m not going to run that race anymore we’re just that’s I’m gonna hold that one up as my trophy my trophy that was amazing there you go well hey with Patriots Day the Boston Red Sox lost in baseball their early morning game against the Cleveland Guardians the Red Sox have had a meteoric decline since last week when it was Yankees Red Sox the Yankees meanwhile continue to win God and the last thing I want to do Mike is is BET on the Yankees in Vegas that I don’t want to do that they’re such an easy bet they just win games they’re 12 and four they have the best record in baseball right now this is the problem so I go to Vegas for three days a year and I’ll Place more baseball bets in those three days than I will in the next three years um so I got to pay a little attention this week it’s it’s quite sick there Mike because the day baseball games start at like 910 a.m. there Vegas time so it’s just going all day long in the sports books um you can bet the first five innings of the game if you’re too lazy and you don’t want to bet the whole game if you’re really looking for some quick action Mike you can do the nrfi the no run first inning you basically just bet that there’s going to be no runs in the first inning it’s a yes or no um I could do some over under bets but yes I’ll I’ll be getting into the baseball betting big time so I’ll send a couple Yankees lines out this week and I’ll let you know what my plays end up being but you know I’m going to do everything in my to avoid betting on the Yankees I just it’s not in my blood I can’t do it look what if they win you money yeah money is green right yeah there you go yeah that that’s the one thing that you may have me convinced on you’re welcome uh let’s hashtag always with food yep food segment to end every course Life podcast our 19th whole content coming your way uh I’ll start with a little mac and cheese um hatch green chili mac and cheese second week in a row at 2020 scratch kitchen in Georgetown Texas going to shout them out cuz their menu is amazing um the bougie mac and cheese is at the restaurant Mike do you ever experient with those or do you stay away from those I usually stay away from them you know uh I I like a good mac and cheese but if I’m going to a restaurant I just never am able to order it because the very few times I have I’m always underwhelmed that’s the thing is I I have to get it if it’s got something unique attached to it so in this case the hatch green chili chicken is unique enough to kind of give it a great spicy flavor so it’s got to have a little twist to it for me to order as well this one is certified if you’re in Central Texas though so that that was my dish of the week uh this weekend I I made a a a gut decision on Saturday while starting to watch the Masters that I was finally going to make something I kind of been craving for the last few weeks which is uh it’s going to sound very simple a chocolate chip cookie bar a cookie bar a cookie bar okay explain what that means to the people at home like a not really a blondie if you know what a blondie is but a cookie dough let’s just pushed into a brownie pan and baked okay so instead of dropping it as cookies so I did a brown butter chocolate chip cookie bar with uh molden flaky salt on top uh very good still eating it today because there’s still plenty left we’re trying to Pace ourselves here so the question I have for you Alex is would you rather have a chocolate chip cookie or a chocolate chip cookie bar that is interesting CU obviously like it it’s it’s hard to figure out a debate where a chocolate chip cookie loses but the bar is quite convenient the bar allows you to bite and eat in a manner that you kind of know exactly what you’re getting into the cookie you know with a circular cookie you never quite know what direction to go with your bites where the chips are stashed they could be a a little bit more evenly assorted in a bar so I might I might pick bar over the actual cookie In This Moment uh good for you my wife very adamantly picked a cookie she said a cookie bar was great but she she would much rather have a cookie either way you can’t go wrong sounds like a great creation from our resident Baker
