Contested each May, the PGA Championship is the second major championship in golf’s annual rotation, and perennially features the strongest field in the men’s game based on the Official World Golf Rankings. Known for dramatic finishes and notable champions, the Wanamaker Trophy—which has been awarded to the winner since 1916—is inscribed with names such as Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player.

The 2024 PGA Championship is set to take place between 13-19 May at Valhalla Golf Club. The reigning champion is Brooks Koepka.

Justin Thomas is with us now at the 106 PJ Championship we’re going to jump right into questions starting right here on Mike 8 uh I guess just to this point in the week how has uh how has the reception out there uh sort of compared to the way that you thought it might be it’s it’s uh actually it’s this week has exceeded All my expectations it’s been better it’s been more fun it’s been more enjoyable um than anything I really thought or could have imagined um I mean I’m I’m very very very excited for tomorrow and it should be a lot of fun but um I’m I’m pretty bummed that you know the week’s almost over so just uh go just enjoy tomorrow as much as I can and um and see what happens and how long has tomorrow’s final round kind of been like something you were looking forward to um not really too much just because he it’s I mean yeah everybody you know has a scenario that runs in their head of of them potentially winning the tournament but you know how that happens you don’t you don’t know but um I did the or I feel like I have done the most important part of of putting myself at least within Striking Distance and um you know I’m going to need a a a really good front nine tomorrow to work my way in the mix but I feel like I’m fully capable of that of how I’m playing and um I just yeah it’d be nice to to have a chance there on that back nine mik two Justin take us through 14 what what I guess first of all the t-shot looked like you went from being very disappointed on there to very happy on on the second shot yeah it’s uh 13 took a lot it took a lot of wind out of me I felt like I you know I felt like I’d let some birdie chances go and I I didn’t really feel like I was hitting bad putts it just wasn’t um just weren’t going in the hole and then 133 was kind of a funky read that I just I felt like I didn’t trust and I didn’t hit a a great Putt and um that that kind of ticked me off but I mean 14 now you know 250 yards to a pretty small shelf um it’s it’s a it’s a tough and yeah I just double crossed the five W I was trying to cut it in there and hit it and arguably what I I would say is one of the worst spots you can but that’s kind of goes back to what I was saying earlier this week when you know that shot is doable when the greens are soft if they’re if they’re not if they’re normal or firm I mean I can’t keep that on the green so I just tried to hit it as high as I could because I was into the wind to try to get it to land soft and um and as soon as it started rolling I I knew it had a chance or at least it was on a good line and for that to go in was beyond a bonus that was one of the louder Roars of the day what was that like because there were so many people right there around that hole it was crazy I I had goosebumps for uh pretty much right up until I got to 15t and as you know it’s not exactly cool outside so um it it was it was one of the coolest moments of my career it it was unbelievable Mike six uh I know you have a lot of family and friends out here but would you be able to estimate how many people are in team Thomas out out there um I don’t know I mean I know we’ve probably provided somewhere 15 to 20ish ticket wise but um you know I saw saw my freshman year English teacher today like I and you know like I I saw you know a teammate of mine a guy that I drove to school with every day in high school so like there there’s just there’s a lot of people I’m I’m seeing that didn’t necessarily but I mean it’s also you know that’s where I grew up so I guess it’s a part of it was there a specific thing that told you you had to change your phone number when like I just I I hadn’t in a while and I I honestly I I felt like I just was it was going to make my week a lot easier and um I I just was like I don’t need to be distracted it’s going to be a hard enough week I I’m just I’ll do it right beforehand and I still have it to where I can kind of get back to things here and there in the morning and at night but as soon as I leave for the golf course and until I get home it’s all business and I don’t need to be distracted with anything else thanks for your time Justin appreciate it
