let me move on to golf for a quick second because it’s about something to happen off the course not on the golf course more specifically the PGA Championship where world number one golfer Scotty Sheffer was arrested by Louisville Police heading into Valhalla Golf Club this morning it happened obviously this morning as traffic was stopped outside the club after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus according to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington who witnessed the incident Sheffer was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median an officer instructed Sheffer to stop but Sheffer continues to drive about 10 to 20 yards towards the entrance here’s sound from the incident listen up here guys guys guys uh St back I’m back I’m back you’re G one right guys what do we tell you I’m staying back here the thing right now right now he’s going to jail okay okay he’s going to jail and it ain’t nothing you can do about it period i there’s there’s nothing you can do about it okay I I okay now do you have a question I’m a I’m media I’m a reporter Okay so that’s all I’m just I just want to make sure that’s okay but you need to step back over here no problem you got it okay okay before I give my opinion let me just say this Sheffer was arrested and hit with several charges which include second deegree assault of a police officer third degree criminal mischief reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic here’s a statement from Scotty Sheffer himself the world’s number one player who bought away has spent the LA spent like 87 weeks as the world’s number one player over the last uh two years or so he said quote this morning I was proceeding as directed by police officers it was a very chaotic situation understandably so considering the tra tragic accident that had occurred earlier and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do I never intended to disregard any of the instructions I’m hopeful to put this to decide and focus on golf today of course all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in an earlier accident this morning it truly puts everything into perspective end quote Scotty Sheffer deserve to be arrested let’s get that out the way first a police officer is dragged on the side of your car 15 to 20 yards on its face it seems perfectly plausible that an arrest is warranted because it shouldn’t have taken you 15 to 20 yards to stop while an officer was hanging onto your vehicle that’s on its face it does come with a little bit of trickiness however number one it was chaotic out there number two it wasn’t just police officers that had on those yellow jerseys that you see on that screen right there it was also folks who were working to direct traffic and obviously the PGA Tour is there number three we want to act like everybody gets treated the same all I ask is that we grow up and understand that’s not true you’re the number one golfer in the world the police is saying according to Jeff Darlington who I interviewed this morning by the way during my day job on ESPN’s First Take ISS every weekday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12: new n Standard Time on ESPN Jeff Darlington my at ESPN was on the show and he said one of the officers came up to him afterwards cuz he was the one playing it on his camera he said one of the officers came up to him afterwards and asked who is it like who’s the guy just arrested so they didn’t know presumably they didn’t know that was the world’s number one golfer you I tell you what you did know you did know that the traffic that was out there wasn’t just because of the crash or the accident that killed The Pedestrian got arrested soul but also you know those folks were out there was coming to the PGA it’s traffic out there for a reason in Louisville Kentucky they were coming to the PGA and you also know that golfers because according to my colleagues at ESPN guys like Marcus you you know um Michael EES and others pointed out to me each golfer is giving a car they don’t get they they’re not giv a driver but each of them are given a car and on each car States the official uhuh PGA Tour it’s got that in blazoned on the back that is what I was told this morning by my buddy Michael EES who does a great job covering golf for us he said um golfers are giv free cars for the week but they are not assigned people to drive them the officers saying that sheffler disobeyed his orders and then dragged him to the ground with his car causing injuries to the officer and his clothing Chef was saying he didn’t know the guy was a cop the cop is evidently saying otherwise if he knew that that was an officer automatic arrest automatic felony charge that’s the way it goes that’s the way it goes if he didn’t know that’s a different animal that means the officer didn’t identify himself I’m simply saying what the hell are you doing driving a car 20 feet 15 to 20 yards rather knowing somebody is clinging to the damn car why would you keep driving so I’m not trying to pretend or act as if Sheffer is innocent I’m just saying we don’t know all the details what I will say is that the world’s number one golfer doesn’t need to get yanked out of a car right at the entrance of the event slammed up against their car and ultimately cuffed and essentially per walked I do know that I would not be surprised if heads rolled with a couple of those police officers because the number one golfer in the world was treated that way and obviously that compromised the event now that wasn’t the reason the event was stalled for an hour and a half but ultimately when something like that happens and a Tour event which attracts folks to its event which is good for the local economy if that’s compromised somebody’s GNA pay a price for that so it’ll be interesting to see what happens I don’t know if something will ever happen to the officers I don’t know if something should happen to them because we don’t know all the details and most importantly I don’t know if something were to end up happening in one of the offices of not several of them in any regard that we would know because they’re not public figures so how much Intel would we get about that if something if they were reprimanded in any way it did seem a bit excessive I must admit I don’t think that was necessary but then again if you pissed the officer off because you’re dragged in 15 to 20 feet that’s how it goes I don’t know what more to say other than that but it was a shocking day of events to say the least I’ll leave it at that

If Tiga did dis ….. I'm sayin
SAS always dancing for master 🤦🏽♂️
what a weird take on this…..I couildnt disagree more
It’s just so interesting that everyone is sooooo quick to come to this golfers defense…… let it had been a regular person and they would’ve been up under the jail I really wish people would realize there’s a difference in policing of certain people the sooner people will realize this the better the world would be …. Please stop thinking policing and the justice system is equal because it’s NOT!!!!!!!
Y’all need to get off Stephen’s NUTS 🥜 before you get pregnant!!!
15-20 yards sounds like an embellishment or even a lie
Stfu Stephen you werent there. It was pitch black the officer was outta line and shouldnt have grabbed on to Tournament Courtesy Car in which the driver had visible credentials. The cop wanted to flex his power its simple as that
Hello Tim, we meet again! Tim for the $$ though..
"Heads are gonna roll"?? Lol This dude always take up for u know who!!! #SMDH
Maybe one day Stephen A will learn how to pronounce Louisville.
Racism against their own.
In this case, we have a multi-millionaire who hits a small ball for a living vs a law enforcement officer who puts his life on the line for a living and whose income may reach 100k with a lot of overtime. It is not a surprise that the small ball hitter thought he could just drive on a median, where traffic is never allowed, because his experience has been that he almost always gets special treatment. I doubt that he will face appropriate consequences, but doubt that he will because the wealthy usually find a way to avoid accountability.
"breaking barriers beyond the world of sports," and now police lines🤣🤣
SAS with the crazy take. He was told to go around as as he was in a PGA car with credentials displayed. They were instructed to go around. He went around and a cop jumped on his car. Like wtf. lol. As for people aren't treated the same–they are charging him with a felony lol
All he had to do is comply. Simple. Whats so hard about that? And since when is someone charged with felony assault on a cop. Released with no bond. And still gets to go play some golf?! That white privilege!!
DESERVED TO BE ARRESTED? DUDE YOU'RE NUTS!
No body cam? I can’t understand this.
He’s a golfer not a Dr rushing to do a life saving operation . Golf is an elitist sport owned and run by rich white men . That’s why Stephen A. a wannabe politician is apologizing for a rich Caucasian . If Scottie was black he’d got shot .
I can imagine his defense attorney asking the prosecutor "Are you really going to put a dumbass who tried to drag a car to a stop on the witness stand?"
Number 1 player should be in a cell NOW!
Complete BS by someone who doesn’t know the details !!
They have it on the side of the car and it's clearly visible to let you know it's a players car.
Making unfounded assumptions and speculations? Not Stephen A!
More excuses when it comes to them, never want to take accountability
I’m sorry but your take isn’t rational.
Unfortunately Stephen has genes that landed him on the bad side of The Bell Curve
My opinion is the officer did not have his body camera turned on I beleive that charges should be dropped most of the times if the officer does have a body camera and doesn’t have it on
Haha Steven a smith u don’t know the whole story stfu
Blaah, blaaah, blaaaah, blaaaaah! Hoping for body cam footage.
The officer “conveniently” did not activate his bobycam !!!! This is the South!!!?
Not sure how this will get resolved. A complex series of events. Hard to tell what the outcome will be re the legal aspect to all this.
It’s reported today the bobycam was NOT activated which as per Louisville PD guidelines, it must be!!! This is why there is so much mistrust towards the police!!!!!
Not surprising Stephen Smith is supporting police when it's a white man getting arrested .Can you believe Steven Smith a black man saying that someone deserves to be arrested supporting police. Stephen Smith is such a f**** racist.
There’s the truth then there’s Stephen a s smiths opinion. The racist one of course.
Stephen speaking out of turn. Scottie is not a thug. Laughable take. All charges dropped, lucky if Scottie doesnt sue. Fat old cops making bad decisions and then making up charges to co er their asses. Seen it thousands of times. Back the blue til it happens to you
Steph A is speculating. Like he said he don't know. Scottie was instructed to go around and had a car identified golf player. The problem you have trigger cops on a power trip. Attach himself to a car. What did the cop think he was Superman? Then the police dept started tacking on a bunch of other charges. Again, you can't have trigger cops working at a golf event.
