If you have obtained a golf club groove sharpener lately, you’ll notice that the latest ones have multiple heads
So, what is the benefit of multiple heads? Simple…you can clean and repair your golf irons with just one tool…whether your golf iron uses the “V” type grooves or the “U” type grooves
The following photo illustrates the 6 Head groove sharpener from Specialty Golf Products.
This photo illustrates which heads are “U” grooves and which heads are “V” grooves. This should assist you in determining which heads to use based on your golf club groove type.
There are multiple heads of each type (3 “U” groove heads and 3 “V” groove heads for a total of 6 heads). The 3 heads shaped like the letter “V” should be used for irons with “V” type grooves. Likewise, the 3 heads shaped like the letter “U” should be used for irons with “U” type grooves.
Now…you’ll need to determine for yourself the groove type of your iron
How do you do that?
How can you tell whether your wedges have U grooves or V grooves?
Other than through observing the groove type for yourself… it’s not that easy for the average golfer to tell.
You could go on the manufacturers website and see if your wedge has square grooves.
If not, then your wedge likely has “V” type grooves.
