Everyone knows Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice, but many probably do not know he has a son who is currently a rookie just drafted by the Chargers. After becoming a decently hyped up recruit at Chandler High School in Arizona, he went to Colorado to try and save the Buffaloes, but he found that to be a near impossible task and left for USC when Lincoln Riley gave him a call. After exploding this season with Caleb Williams, Rice is now a big time prospect and will be a steal for the Chargers, enjoy!
there were a couple of examples of players who had a free fall come the draft guys like Jeremiah Trotter James Williams kayin King and Michael Pratt all come to mind but none are more sad than the fall of brandan rice at one point he was considered as high as a second round pick and according to most mock drafts was a consistent end of day two early day three pick he’s the son of former legendary Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and during his time at both USC and Colorado he showed he had the skill set needed to make it in the NFL unfortun he would fall all the way to the seventh round but it’s not all doom and gloom some think that Brendan rice was put in the perfect position for him to actually have a successful career he took the social media and was extremely upset so I’m sure he’s going to be very motivated to come out and work in today’s video though I want to introduce you to Brandon rice we’re to talk about who he is how he became a star at both Colorado and USC why he fell and also why I think he’s a terrific fit but before we get started if you’re a big fan of football be sure to subscribe to the channel leave a like if you want support today’s video and let me know what player team topic or situation I could cover next now let’s get started and talk about Brendan rice so in order to understand how rice became a big-time Prospect we first need to go back in time rice was obviously the son of Jerry Rice who was a Hall of Famer and he ranks as the NFL’s all-time leading receiver but unfortunately he was not in Brandon’s life very much those two weren’t the only big names in the rice family though as his older brother Jerry Jr also played football he ended up playing at both UCLA and UNL V and would go to Washington as an undrafted free agent before he would tear his laborum this happened back in 2014 and he never played in an NFL game football was also always a big deal to brandan he said quote that football has honestly been life to me I need that football and that football is mine after a short stint of playing soccer as a kid his mom would eventually let him put on the helmet when he turned six she was concerned about the injury risk and thought this could be harmful to her son she said quote I think with the concussions there is a big fear but you know if it is something they want to do and I took it from him I think it would break him his mom would eventually let him play but Brendan didn’t exactly get what he wanted when it came to family in Brendan’s 17 years he had never shared the same roof as his father and the relationship his parents had had many challenges through all of it his parents were able to put their differences aside though and for the betterment of their son they made it work that was something brandan always appreciated eventually like his father he would start to excel at the game of football and everyone had high expectations for him when he stepped foot at Chandler high school and at the time ironically his stepdad was his coach as a freshman he was 6’2 and 175 lb and in the words of his coach he said he had great hands and that he’d play varsity football as a freshman that’s extremely rare but would he wear his dad’s number unfortunately probably not he said quote it’s something that I would have to think over considering I don’t want the help of his name to get me places in life Brendan went up later saying in a YouTube interview that he got used to people thinking that he was going to be cocky because he was Jerry’s son but he admitted he was much more of a quiet figure who just wants to get the job done and go under the radar when it came to recruiting there were some doubts about his ability many coaches Express concerns with his lack of speed but through diligence and hard work he was able to actually get his 100 meter dash time a full second quicker he went from 11.7 seconds to 10.78 he said quote college coaches thought I was too stiff and too slow even my best friend doubted me he actually ran a 10.3 and I told him I’m going to run a 10.78 this year I promise you that these improvements would help both on the recruiting Trail and on the football field his ability to get faster and willingness to try new things grab College cow’s attention he ended up receiving 21 Division One offers and as a junior he caught 49 passes for 729 yards and 11 touchdowns fun fact early on in his high school career Tyler shuck was actually his starting quarterback what wild is shuck will be in his seventh year at Louisville this fall but where was rice get to go he ended up choosing Colorado over Arizona State oreg get in Texas A&M why the Buffalo he said quote I Believe In Coach Mel Tucker I truly believe what he’s building for the program and I want to be a part in helping that 2020 class I thought about it and I was thinking I can go to Arizona State and be a part of a class or I can go to Colorado and make my own class and Lead my own class I can have people down the road in 3 years tell me Brendan thank you huh that whole coaching thing didn’t end up really working out for him because of M Tucker but rice had a ton of hype and he had a great High School career in total he caught 102 passes for 1,00 788 yards and 22 touchdowns came in three years of vars City football and according to 24/7 Sports rice was a four-star recruit the number 55 wide receiver and the 327th best player in the class of 2020 so how would he end up doing in Boulder Colorado well when he would arrive he had a decent amount of height for two reasons one he was a four-star recruit and the other was because he was related to Jerry Rice there was a lot of things to be excited about except what was currently going on with Colorado football at the time Carl derell was recently named the head man and while they had a decent 2020 season things would really implode by the time rice actually left when he first stepped foot on the field as a freshman in 2020 he would appear in four games for the Buffalo he ended up finishing with six total catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns his first career touchdown would come against Stanford and his second career touchdown would come on a 61 yard pass against Utah while it was a solid first year he would need to build upon that in 2021 if he wanted to live up to the hype honestly it was a pretty slow start for him in his first four games he failed to catch over three passes or go for over 25 yards receiving but then he had the best game of his career in a October game against Arizona against the cats he caught three passes for 111 yards and a touchdown and that was his first career 100 plus yard receiving game after that you have to Flash Forward two weeks before he had another big game as against number seven Oregon rice caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in that one he also caught a touchdown past the following week against Oregon State and he would improve in 2021 he finished with 21 catches for season as his best performance would once again come against Arizona and this was all the way in late October he ended up catching five passes for 6 loes the Utah they would have to settle for the cotton bow against tlane this is where Brenan rice made a name for himself in a one-point loss in a thriller rice caught six passes for 17 4 yards and two touchdowns this was his coming out party and his welcome to college football moment in 2022 he caught 39 passes for 61 yard and four touchdowns and now he was expected to have a big 2023 campaign with Jordan Addison gone how would he end up doing this year well he was awesome he became a touchdown machine as he got a touchdown pass in six of his first seven games that included touchdowns against San Jose State Nevada Stanford and number 21 Notre Dame and two touchdown catches a piece against both Arizona State and Colorado in that ASU game he also had seven catches for 133 total yards and at the time USC was off to a blazing 6-0 start unfortunately after that Notre Dame loss Utah would get him once again and they fell to the college football playoff race from there after that he had a touchdown pass and their one-point victory over cow had a touchdown against Washington a touchdown against Oregon and a touchdown against UCLA rice had touchdowns in 10 of his 12 regular season games and he became a machine in total he finished with 45 catches for 791 yards and 12 scores and Brendon rice was seen as a day two pick I even saw one mock draft having him late in the first round but that was a couple of months ago rice decided to leave his last year of Eligibility and ENT the 2024 NFL draft according to NFL Mock database he was a projected fourth round pick and the 111th best Prospect in the draft he got as highly ranked as the mid 40s which puts him at day two all in all everyone expected Brendan rice to be a fourth round pick maybe he’d slide up to the third or maybe he’d fall to the fifth instead he watched in horror as his draft St would fall all the way almost out of the draft itself eventually receiver after receiver went off the board before the Chargers decided to take him with the 255th overall pick this is a new weapon for Jim Harbaugh to work with and this was insane right after the draft rice ended up taking to social media to show his excitement he said quote all I needed was a shot I’m all charged up right now rice will join a receiver room that already includes Josh Palmer Quenton Johnson Darius Davis and their second round pick lad makoni rice is probably a guy who’ll be fighting for that final receiver spot and I think he has a legit chance of getting it I’m really not quite sure why he fell in my opinion he’s a solid receiver in pretty much every area and this year he really showed he could catch touchdowns no he didn’t have over a th000 yards or no maybe he wasn’t the fastest or the most perfect player out there but the guy scored 12 touchdowns that is extremely difficult to do and he seemingly has the size and the work ethic some will point to maybe a lack of production the 3 years earlier but honestly I don’t know why he fell I think he’ll end up making the roster for the Chargers and I’m excited to see what he could do next but what do you guys think if you’re a USC [Music]

Sorry had some audio issues for the early years portion, who should I cover next?
This is the first video I see about him but I honestly feel he won’t make the cut. Hope I’m wrong
The Niners gonna regret not drafting him , even gore JR he wasn’t even drafted got signed after , big mistake
I'm genuinely cconfused how a dude that runs a 4.5 40 and a 10.7 100m is somehow considered slow.
Literally blows my mind that he fell to the 7th round. Crazy steal and I won't be shocked if he prove to the world he should've been way way higher
He will definitely make good on his promise!.. I'm glad the chargers give him a shot!
“Who is he?” Is CRAZY to put in the title about literally Jerry fucking Rice’s son lmao
HE WILL BE A STAR! HIS DNA, COACH'S SON(HIS STEP-DAD WAS HIS HEAD COACH AND IT SEEMS COACH'S SONS ALWAYS HAVE A STEP AHEAD WITH FILM, ETC PLUS ADD JERRY'S COACHING ON TOP OF THAT, AND NOW..HE WILL GET ONE OF THE BEST HEAD COACHES/TEACHERS OUT THERE WITH HARBOROUGH! I BET THAT BOTH HIM AND LADD COMPETE FOR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR !!
Stupid Bengals draft 18 TEs and scumbs. And could of drafted Rice in the 7th. Stupid. Thats why we never win it all
I mean…correct me if I am wrong. But Jerry Rice when he got drafted. It was not because of his speed. It was his hands and route runing ability. Yes he had any amazing work ethic to. But from what I recall reading was that he only got on people's rader casue do to his crazy numbers he was puting up at Mississippi vally state…which I think was a d2 or d3 school. Not every hall a fame son does great in football. But i would love to know if his dad teaches him to catch a football better by through bricks at him lol 😂.
So….why did he fall? No one knows, got it.
Hard to call him a steal when no one else wanted him.
Let's see him play first….all players drafted supposedly are star
⚡Who has it better than us NO ONE BOBODDDDDYYYYYYY ⚡
whooooo in the fuck thought he was a second rounder. Come on.
"he became awesome, with an absolutely insane stat line of 12 TD and 700 yards"
come on bro these are terrible stats lol, and it was his best, all the other years he was a nothiing burger. Literally almost didnt get drafted cause every team that prospected him considered him undraftable. Even 4th round is way to early for him. Terrible take.
Everyone is a steal for views until they suck
Brandon Rice's fall as far as he did is really strange. Now granted I didn't think his production warranted a number two round pick but no 3rd 4th 5th maybe. He is not a steal because you get him in the 6th or 7th round he's a steal because I don't think he's a finished wide receiver I think he's a guy that will continue to work and will get better unlike many of the people taking earlier who are set in how they are as a player
Can you make a video on Tahj Washington
You're part of a VERY small group of people saying things like this about Rice. Mostly because we all know he's a bust before he even steps on the field. How do we know? We don't know 100% but we know not everyone can be their dad. He ain't his dad or even a number 3 option in the NFL.
"Would he wear his dad's number?"
Nope … and not just because he doesn't want to live off of his dad's success or live in his shadow, but because #80 was officially retired last year in the Chargers Ring of Honor! (was worn by Chargers HoF TE, Kellen Winslow Sr.) ⚡🏈
Pretty eyes just like his pops
I think you need to check the connection of your mic and your audio equip.
Rattler had the biggest fall in the draft if we’re being honest
Slow 40 and stiff hips.
14-2. Chargers gonna charge
You say he’s a steal based on his dad , not anything he’s done . He’s had the best mentor and training since birth and just isn’t that guy 🤷🏻♂️
Brenden Rice went Hamilton high school not the rival high school in Chandler btw
