the era of taking these young freshmen and trying to play against older players is over like it he did it I think he did a phenomenal job with these guys all year getting them to be as successful as they were you can see they’re playing against grown men the guys on Kentucky will be far better Pros than any of these guys on Oakland or any of these guys in the tournament but they’re not as good college basketball players it’s a at this point in their career they’re not as disciplined yet as the guys from Oakland and it’s not Cal’s fault it’s they’re 18 years old and they’re in this era where everyone’s telling them how great they are just show up in college and you’re going to win it doesn’t happen that way and the more the guys stay in college because of nil it’s going to be tougher for young teams like this to be successful

I believe Coach Calipari needs to fix some things with his coaching, maybe focus more on defense and developing. With that said there is some truth to what Jay Wright is saying.

Players won’t stay in college longer because of NIL. Since 1989, 60 guys are selected each year to go to the NBA. The main reason guys are staying in college longer is because Europeans are starting to be a larger portion of the draft. Also, more African guys will likely start entering the draft, who don’t go to American colleges. Maybe 2-3 guys a year.
Too much over thinking going on here. Kentucky lost because of March Madness and all its glory. One and done. It is what makes the Madness special. Unfamiliar play and players with nothing to lose. It can’t be explained away…

It's 100% Caliparis fault. He only targets 5 star athletes and gives them a one year contract to play at UK. He never should have been offered a lifetime contract. Calipari and barnhardt should both be looking for a new job.
The best college players now are the guys who make the NBA without insane athletic ability. 4 year players who still end up in the league, that's what can really build a dominant program…doesn't matter if they play all 4 years at one school or not. Just that they play until age 22ish and then end up good enough to play in pros.

I played college baseball. The guys who were 21-22 and good players were so much more valuable than any 18 year old freshman phenom we had when it was crunch time. That maturity in those 3-4 years are extremely important and coach is spot on. Those guys will become better players but the experience is so valuable.

I agree I told my brother the other Day 18 and 19 year olds are playing against 23,24,and 25 year olds the ncaa messed up when they let all these guys get an extra year.

Calipari was given full control and autonomy over his coaching staff. He has no one to blame for who his assistant coaches except for himself

Fire coach Cal y’all kept screaming but then hire who? Now players are going in that darn transfer portal and some may follow him because those players love coach Cal. Y’all are gonna have a long journey ahead because if the new coach continues with the one and dones you’re going to get the same results. To be fair tho. College coaches shouldn’t be worried about producing NBA talent, they are literally a COLLEGE basketball team and should be focusing on college level basketball. I mean if a player has enough talent to make it to NBA that’s awesome for them but for their time they spend at college, that should be they only focus at that given point of time.
Let’s start by telling the truth, it is Caliper fault because he created that error. That was his whole sales pitch when recruiting, come to Kentucky and I’ll make you a lot of money in the pros.
