Correct wrist movement in the golf swing is the key to perfect ball striking.
In this golf lesson, Kerrod Gray in collaboration with Hack Motion show you an easy trail wrist move that is going to help you hit compressed shots and completely transform your golf swing.
I’ve had students go from flipping at impact to hitting compressed shots in one session simply by working on their right wrist angle at impact.

how the trail wrist moves throughout the golf swing has a direct effect on your ability to compress the golf ball so in this video you’re going to learn exactly how to set your hands at a dress swing and get them back to impact so you too can get that compressed strike and hit better golf shots let’s get stuck in so why is the movement of tra wrist important in the first place well the back wrist mirrors the front wrist ideally and therefore as the club is the one thing that hits the golf ball and our hands are the one point of connection with that club we need to ensure that our wrists are working in such a manner both together and in a functional way to achieve a powerful impact position that’s all the golf ball cares about how the club is at the moment of impact and the back of that trail wrist and the movement of that is so important to help achieve that impact position now one of my favorite points of the golf swing to highlight this is if we get down into what would be called P6 or when the club shaft is parallel to the ground just before impact if I was to just isolate the movement of my trail wrist from what would be considered a very functional tour position here the numbers on the screen which is measuring the movement of my trail wrist is starting to then match up with the visual of what would be considered scooping well then this is going to be very representative of someone who struggles to make quality contact with the ball let’s put that into effect and we’re going to start off by exaggerating and highlighting a player who might start with their hands back so we’re going to see a negative number here up on the screen and then at the moment of impact a negative number as well so we can see as the golf club came in the hands are back there was no compression no power I started at a dress with the back of the right wrist bent back so it was 9° negative and at the moment of impact we actually increased that to 18° so instead of being where we would see a professional at the moment of impact which would be around about 25 30° positive we were all the way back into negative and you can see that would correlate directly with someone who is scooping and casting so what did the tour players do well I’m going to set up to this to what would feel relatively comfortable for myself and we’re going to see a bit of a positive number so about around about 10° there now as I swing to the top we’re going to see this number increase quite significantly and then as I come back down to impact we’re going to see that number stay positive and be greater than what it was at a dress the average is around 10 to 15° more than what we did have it at a dress so whatever it was when I started I’m looking if I just isolate impact to increase that number of the back of the wrist as my hips would go forward and rotate the right wrist bends back and we’re going to see that number increases now let’s hit one demonstrating and highlighting that so we’re going to start with a positive number so I’m in a slightly hinged back position of that back wrist and let’s get it even more at the moment of impact now we can see ball first ground second contact compression all that good stuff and at the moment of impact it was significantly more than what it was at address and that’s going to give us that nice amount of divot that you see down on the ground so if you’re missing the divots and you’re scooping and you’re not getting that compression well this is one of the main causes so let’s say you are one of those players who does have the hands back and they can’t create any of this load and hinge and power throughout the swing well then what’s a great drill to work on this well just bringing awareness of a sensation of what it’s like to even begin to hinge the wrists back and for Simplicity purposes we’re really only talking about this one range of motion here from the address position I’m going to flatten my left wrist and hinge my back wrist back like this and we can see that number goes quite positive on the screen get down into my address and make a turn as I turn will now now we’ve preset ourself at the top of this little back swing position of very strong impact conditions of my wrist angles to achieve compression so just making little swings just following that routine is a great place to start stand up we’re going to hinge flatten the left wrist right wrist bends back we’re going to turn back towards the camera tilt down and as we follow through get a sensation of what it would be like to have that bent back and we can see the positive number on the screen once again so having feedback such as this with hack motion is just incredibly powerful so you can connect the feel and the real cuz sometimes we might think that we’re doing something but in reality it might not be quite that so setting up once more we’re going to go through that little exercise we’re going to stand up level with the ground we’re going to hinge I’m going to get down into my golf posture I’m going to turn back that feels nice and hinged back I can see the positive number on the screen follow through and I just chipped that one down there and look at that contact look at the number on the screen it was at impact bent perfectly back to achieve that compression so how the trail wrist moves throughout the golf swing is incredibly important at the moment of impact we want to increase it by 10 to 15° more than what it was at a dress and we can preset a little bit of that at a dress but then by the time we get back to impact we want to make sure that we are getting some more so do that little pre set hinge drill stand up straight club shaft in front of you like this flatten the left wrist bend the right wrist back get down into your golf posture little bit of a back swing follow through get a feel of those little practice wings and then turn that into a shot now I love this training aid by hack motion so if you guys want to grab yourself one click the c or in the description below it’s incredibly valuable to give you some awareness of what it’s like to move that trial wrist in the correct fashion you can use this video as a guide to do so and it can help you strike that golf ball better and shoot lower scores thanks for watching this video YouTube thinks that you would benefit from watching this one next so click that card and it could be the tip that you need to take your game to the next level I’ll see you next time
