now we all heard the rumors at the Ryder Cup in 2023 that a few of the US players wanted to get paid for playing in the Ryder Cup now this is a little bit controversial at the time and it also appeared to the media and to the fans that parts of the team were very very divided and a lot of people were saying this is one of the reasons why well the USA didn’t perform as well as we know they can also taking nothing away from the European it was a class performance but Justin Thomas has come out and spilled the beans a little bit I said a little bit a lot on exactly what was going on in the locker room and what the players actually believe should happen now before we go into this video do you think they should be paid to play in the Ryder Cup it obviously generates a lot of money where does that money go probably gets funnel back into golf and we’d see help grow the game which is brilliant but is the Ridder cup nothing without them well the answer to that question is yes now we’re going to go further into this but I love it if you let me know your opinions on it so if you look at it this way we saw Patrick kley Xander chaffle as two of the most vocal people on the fact that they should get paid even to the much so Xander Cha’s father got involved and was very vocal can’t really help the team Dynamic we then have the whole Deb barkle of Hat Gate where Patrick kley supposedly refus refused to wear a hat because he wasn’t getting paid to wear it now these were all rumors but actually I think is a lot of Truth in this now for the very first time Thomas in this interview has conceded whilst poor preparation wasn’t entirely to blame for their fivepoint defeat each team member were doing things differently other than poor preparation there are accusations some in the Team USA locker room were not happy about not being compensated in terms of being there to compete so let’s go into exactly what Justin Thomas said if you look at it this way this is what he told the Times newspaper it was made into a bigger deal in terms of this team than it actually was I would have said every person on the planet would prefer to be prer to play and be compensated financially than not to be but it’s not something where I’m losing sleep over the fact that we haven’t been paid to play in the Ryder Cup you go down many Avenues and look at the revenue it generates and make make a very good argument we could and should be paid but again I haven’t lost any sleep at any point of night because of it so this is the point isn’t it and I think this is what a few of the top players on the US team were sort of alluding to now don’t forget just in Thomas was one of the captain’s picks because of his Stell Ridder Cup record I don’t think he’s coming out and saying he should be paid but I think he’s sort of saying well you can see why we should be if you know what I’m trying to say here and part of me wants to agree with this but part me wants to go no I don’t think these guys should be paid if you look at this way right if you’ve playing in a Ryder Cup squad you’ve earned tens of millions of pounds you’ve earned over millions in that specific year so you’ve already been compensated highly for me I look at at the Ridder cup as a reward and as a unique opportunity to represent your country or your continent because this is where we see for me the creme creme come together in a team SL individual format on the final day like nothing we’ve ever seen before and I’ll be honest the last few Rider cups I’ve totally lived up to that record and totally lived up to that reputation but you look at it from a player’s point of view well Hang on we’re here we’re getting compensated now let me go into this a little bit further the England squad for football I think get compensated but all of them then donate to charity because again they’re representing their country or their continent and for me that should be looked at as an honor they shouldn’t be getting compensated just think how much revenue the England football team generate fa just look at where that money goes to helping grow the game and hopefully I’m sure it does that’s where the money for the Ridder cup goes now Thomas says this the Ridder cup represents the true sport it’s about representing your country it’s about coming together as a team it’s the pursuit from a competition we have and I think because of that the fans love it there’s no intrinsic motivation involved it’s purely purely Sport and I think he’s talking absolute sense here I think if you look at it this way I don’t think golfers will ever be paid to play unless you’re a live golfer like Brooks kepka who was getting roughly 3 million as a bonus now maybe that sparked up a few other emotions from some players well hang on why is he getting paid why aren’t we I don’t think they ever should and that’s just my opinion but what do you think that’s today’s breaking new story here in the golf industry

JT shouldnt have even played lol.
100% they should be paid
if you don't pay players don't charge entry fees if your playing for free u should watch for free
I think America should be more worried about Team Captains picking UN-QUALIFIED buddies to play instead of having the BEST PROFESSIONAL American golfers on the team! All it took was a captain picking buddies getting their butts kicked and deflecting attention away from a lousy teams play!
Pay them what they think they are deserved the problem is how are you going to go about making sure you have the best players at the Ryder Cup. This whole me me me mentality in golf is getting super old. Too many quality player left off the last US team that were on a roll and to many buddy picks. Add money to the mix and watch social media blow up when the picks are made.
Does the Olympics pay NBA players for representing the USA Men's basketball team? Just let that sink in for a bit
I hate the Ryder Cup. Too much faux patriotism and faux machismo. Rich guys flag waiving. Rich guys getting nose to nose with each other. Give me a break.
And as far as “representing your country”, how exactly do you do that if you’re on the Euro team? I don’t know if everybody knows this, but Europe isn’t a “country”. The English hate the French, the French hate the Germans, the Germans laugh at the Spaniards, the Spaniards laugh at the Italians, and they all laugh at the Greeks.
If you want to be a puss and whine about not getting paid then decline your invitation and not play. The next person in line can be handed it. No one will lose any sleep over it. It will just make you look bad.
I think given all the players that make the Ryder cup have made a lot of money to get there. I believe it should remain as a non paid event. What the players should do is use their influence to make sure that money made from the event is used to promote grass roots golf for young underprivileged players.
If a player demands compensation to play for his country then name and shame them.
Don't go, team USA would have been better off.
I hate the hypocrisy , ryder cup venue charging ridic amounts for water , you name it , confiscating water etc on entry points , charging the earth for anything with the ryder cup logo on etc etc…. they must make a fortune on tv rights aswell…so as for getting paid , maybe not paid but certainly some arrangement so they have at least a contribution to perhaps charities/foundations they are involved in, and perhaps they can promote some joint program between the teams to grow and or help less priv players etc….
Privileged prats and brats
Should not be paid! Don’t play!
That should get paid. Period. What happens if one of them gets an injury? What about their expenses? Family. Caddie. Airfare for all. Hotel. Meals. Transportation.
And all those PGA golfers on the American team blamed the LIV golfers for taking the money to jump…bunch of hypocrites…lol
ALEX you are joking, of course they should be paid ,they are not amateurs. These are some of the best pro golfers in the world. NO other similar sporting event does not pay its players.
Justin Thomas shouldn’t worry, he’s not making another one anyway.
This is a fact – EVERY single US team member gets $200k that is donated to their charity of choice…that is not paid directly to them but it is a form of compensation.
Multi millionaires wanting more money!! why am I not surprised,it highlights what is wrong with todays society,PS I hate LIV😉
Alex you always pronounce Xander’s last name with an O, THERE IS NO “O” IN HIS LAST NAME
All their expenses are paid and food, luxury hotels clothing that’s all free keep the Ryder Cup pure if they wish to make money sell their golf bags with their signature on and their clothing if they’re really that hard up
How much does Jay and his clowns get fkn heeps
Millionaires not being paid, give it a rest. The Europeans donate any monies to charity as I have read.
This revenue funds the organisation and things like Walker cup etc, considering they are pampered beyond belief including their wives and girlfriends, plus the extra endorsements they get for being a Ryder cupper are huge, 1 week every 2 years, pampered beyond belief, id rather them not play if its only about money
Greed, greed greed, is it not a fact that each American player gets $200,00 to give to a charity
Americans have been pushing this since Tiger played in Ryder Cup. Its a US culture thing. Nothing for free.
Don’t hear the Europeans talking about money just in it for the team and the experience of a life time
They know they earn plenty of money from the exposure of playing in a Ryder cup
The top players are way overpaid, it is ridiculous amount of money while up and coming players are struggling. Spread the money and love for the game around and stop whining.
I do think England football squad get paid for playing euros or World Cup so it does make sense
Someone, somewhere is making a huge amount of money from the Ryder Cup… it would be nice if some was then donated to legitimate charities…. I’m not talking about lining the pockets of the charity CEO bosses…. True charities real charities I mean.
More selfish entitlement. These guys are starting to sound like the slaves that are forced to make millions playing for the NFL, NBA. This multimillionaire generation has no idea how much pride they should have to be able to support their country. If they got paid it would be more of the cool guy’s clique. Ie. Thomas should never have been picked anyway.
Who pays for their clothes, shoes, bags, travel, food, accommodations etc.?
It's one week every other year. Start adding money to it and feelings get bent out of shape for those golfers that just missed being pick for the team. What to do, what to do??
The selection process will be Jaded if there is money involved. It will ruin it.
What you are talking about is the difference between Europe and USA overall. There is no WE in the USA, it’s about ME. Also everything is coin operated. Hence, they are rubbish at international team sports. They don’t even do well playing international baseball for Christ’s sake.
Soldiers get protect us… and that’s supposedly the most patriotic thing someone can do, no?
If you win a point… pay them!! If you’re the top point winner… pay even more!! Capitalism!!!
If the Ryder Cup is comparable to the FIFA World Cup as a sporting event. Football players representing their countries get payed for their appearance in the World Cup. Argentina, my country, won the 2022 World Cup, and the players got duly compensated. Professional Golfers should get compensated as well
Expenses should be paid. Fully. For the caddies as well. But i always thought the motivation was playing for your country and each other. Maybe that's why Europe seems to be getting stronger while the US is struggling. I thought at 1 time the players stipends were paid to the charity of their choice. It would be nice to have charities benefit from the team events. I have no problem with the pga recouping their cost of sponsorship of the USA team.
The PGA of America owns the Ryder Cup. All expense paid trip to a great venu and fame isn't enough?? Part of the mystic of the RC is the fact that it's playing for your country. The honor of being on top. Some players can be such douches. Bonuses from sponsors etc is different. Its sad people cry tradition and then turn right around and slap tradition in the face. PGAT players are going to wreck pro golf.
Those who think they should be paid for playing in the Ryder Cup have no shame. If it's such an imposition, don't play. It used to be an honour and a priviledge to represent your Country. These people make me ill!!!
Yet Thomas only played because his mate picked him over others who were playing way, way better🙄🙄
If he wanted to be paid, maybe he could have stepped aside and let one of those who were playing better have his spot🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
i thought the PGA players only played for the legacy and history?
As a member, myself and fellow members don’t even receive complimentary green fees at our association owned facilities. 🤔
So who pays for their…. Travel, hotel, meals, clothes, bags, clubs, they’ve chosen to play a game for a living. They ALL have foundations/ trusts an probably pay very little in taxes. Multi millionaires… huge houses 2/3 maybe, cars, planes,……?????
What more do they want…GOOD LORD!!!!!!Go play your game!!!!!Gezzzzz whine whine😢😢😢😢….
