[Music] in the beautiful city of churches we enjoyed a record breaking Saturday 90 plus thousand fans this week at the gra golf club and what an incredible two rounds we’ve seen Brendan Steele from High Flyers GC at the top of the individual leaderboard in tqu GC remains at the top of the team leaderboard and as you can see fans are extremely excited for this champ ionship Sunday we’re live welcome to Club 54 pre-round show and I’m your host Christian Crosby joining me is the wonderful the one and only Jerry FS that’s pretty nice each day you have a very nice introduction for me I appreciate it honor to be here it’s awesome to be in South Australia here in Adel City that I personally love and have been to since I was your age and the crowds have been equally as anticipated and they have uh they’ve delivered uh weather is a little different today the sun is out the wind’s blowing a little bit I’m feeling good good uh you got your sun cream on today jar I do but I spend most of my day indoors I’m an indoor pet now so like I enjoy getting outside with you a little bit before we get into uh all things yesterday and round one as well Fisher’s concert last night was incredible was it uh I was hoping to see you there where were you Jerry yeah n no no I was at a Frank Sinatra recital uh R yeah yeah there was a Frank Sinatra impersonator My Generation I mean I like Frank too but uh let’s take a look at the range and talk a little a little bit of Cam Smith uh man oh man the fans love Ripper GC and cam Smith as well I’ve watched him it’s been so fun they’re on the range right now getting ready my question to you Jerry is simple can cam Smith do it everyone wants it everybody wants to see it but can this really happen today Jerry you know he came from four back to win an Open championship against Rory Maloy and now this there are some great players ahead of him but yes of course he can do it and he’s going to have the collective will of the entire Gallery rooting him on as well as Matt Jones who’s got he’s one more shot back he’s got a chance as well but cam Smith world class world class competitor world class player world class person true blue they call him in Australia he’s just Australian through and through and uh yeah he can do it I think I think what I would be cautionary of is wanting it too bad he’s going to want it so bad for the fans here in Adelaide yeah he said in his uh press interview sometimes having so much support can make it a little harder what would you say he needs to do to stay focused in this final day you know suan will tell us CU she uh she’s talked to him quite a bit about it and he’s answered these questions many times but he’s a he’s a process driven guy so he goes through his routines his process his mental thoughts over each and every shot each and every Putt and if he could stay focused on that and not let the mind wander to the to the Ultimate Prize which is the victory here for himself and for Ripper then he has a great great chance well it doesn’t look like he’s uh letting his mind wander at all I was at the concert last night and Ripper GC this is actually from my Social account there goes aoui just like last year I think he’s outdone himself this year though does this show a good sign of what we’ll see today it seems like they’re having a good time you know the Aussies the South Africans as well they they are true to themselves they they work hard they play hard and they enjoy life like Mark leean told us in our recent podcast us aies we don’t live to work we work to live and that’s you can see that in just the team mentality of of a few of the teams out here they they enjoy the finer things in life that they’ve worked so hard to attain and there’s uh Lucas Herbert doing his thing with this shoy as well uh have you ever done that uh before Sunday shoes yeah did a shoy out of one of San’s dress shoes out of suan dress Sho of San’s dress Sho yes well there you there you have it uh well clearly Ripper GC is prepared for the final day they W it really bad take a look at this feature B back here in ADI W man there’s not much I’m not excited about I think any opportunity we get to come down and play in in front of the home crowd is pretty cool they’re always so nice to us and there is a sense of pride a few more thousand people is is going to be pretty cool take a look at that it’s absolutely packed I’m not sure whether to be scared or excited most of my friends are coming over I’ve had to negotiate about about 15 or 20 extra tickets off um boys on other teams so definitely looking to embrace it last year I know the boys probably didn’t perform like we would have liked to RI a GC have stalled I would just say it was tiring I wouldn’t say pressure but we certainly know that they want us to play well being the home team it’s a really cool feeling the darling of the home crowd Cameron Smith we do have the fans wearing the merch and getting right behind us they’re all amped we notice as players looking into the crowd when there’s Ripper hats out there and fans and it’s cool to be a part of that I think we all individually know how important this is and how much it means to all of us to get the first win of the Year this event would be unbelievable and to be able to do that for all the fans that will be out here would be even better boys are all ready to go this week and that motivation certainly there to try and spray champagne on that Podium on on Sunday night yeah last year was so epic and it’s going to be bigger this year so can’t [Applause] wait can’t wait to see what the Aussie boys do today in our final day Andy here is the leaderboard this is where we stand right now and here’s the individual leader board Jerry we talked about it yesterday take us through what you’re seeing here Jerry well I see guys with a lot on the line today Brendan steel 41st on the points table for the season long we’re getting to the Midway point after next week it starts to get crunch time after that with only 13 regular season events uh Meo Pereira way down the points table as well it’s Danny Lee they have a lot to gain today but I tell you what you talked to Cameron Smith Matt Jones both have a a chance to win as well as Herbert and Leash if you gave them a choice or you get you can win individually or you guys can win as a team but you only get one every one of them individually would say we want the team to win here well let’s take a look at that team leaderboard here uh I noticed Ripper GC at Fourth last year they finished eighth I believe this is huge for them what do you see when you look at this team leaderboard well you see a couple of teams up there who we don’t normally see in the iron heads and High Flyers and you see some of the powerhouses in rip for GC torke GC hasn’t won yet this year Crushers leading the points table uh for the season long standing still within Striking Distance so what I see and what I hope is a team playoff because we haven’t had one yet and this place would go Bonkers especially if it included Ripper GC I could not agree with you more Jerry let’s talk about a guy that goes by the name of Brendan steel I believe he birdied six of his first eight yesterday got off to a hot start in his press conference he said he just felt good as he got started my question to you is how does he keep this going he’s he’s competing against some incredible golfers today he’s got Elite ball striking going on right now he is Fifth and and strokes gained off the te he’s driving it as straight as you can point he does that consistently throughout his career but it’s especially good this week he’s fifth in Strokes gained approach and he’s first in Strokes gained approach short distance which is key out here believe it or not he’s actually losing Strokes to the field and putting and he’s leading that’s unheard of and we just watching putting right over here 5 minutes ago not far from us stroke looks smooth he’s not going to be overly nervous he’s been in this position before he’s one three times on the PGA tour he knows he belongs he knows he can beat these guys if he’s able to stick to his game here’s some of his there’s some stats here Jerry you love to take us through this yeah season long versus this week approach medium from 49th to 17th approach long about the same Strokes gained off the tea on par 3es pretty significant not as significant as the next one off the tea driving is huge as well and around the greens and the short approach shots that’s 150 yards and in this course is loaded with them it’s not a long course and he is just absolutely dialed in so how do you think he’ll handle this crowd you know when you think of Ripper GC for example this crowd is amazing and they’re for the Rippers today it gets a little more serious so the crowd is against him uh per se in this final day not against them you know no golf crowds don’t root against anybody unless it’s a rider cup or a President’s Cup alth we’re getting to the point now with Team Golf and live where you’re going to start seeing that but uh fortunately for him and the other two players with whom he’s playing in our in our featured group our leader group and our St our modified shotgun start he’s not playing with Cam so that is a big benefit I mean playing alongside cam trying to hold him off with the fans on his side it could it could have an effect I don’t think the fans will have any negative effect on that final three your thoughts on some of the other guys in contention Danny Lee uh Meo Pereira Carlos Ortiz how do you think they’ll shapee up today in this final day me pera’s had a really substandard year for his skill level and also with the putter he’s making some putts right now Danny Lee he’s just a joy to watch I mean he’s he’s so funny uh personally he’s he plays with a reckless abandoning every swing looks like he’s going to pull his back out of place um but he’s he’s and he’s extremely quick he’s fun to watch there’s there are so there are 12 guys within four shots of the lead any of them are capable of winning here what would you say uh whose game favors this course the most out of the guys who are in contention it’s a tough question precision and short game Precision in short game Precision in short game so I don’t see anybody amongst those leaders who puts those who who’s able to put those components together on a weekly basis Brenan steel incredible Precision in ball striking uh cam Smith incredible around the greens and on the greens so it’s some basically it’s somebody who just happens to have all things clicking today at the top of the team leaderboard team tqu GC let’s take a look at them on the Range and talk a little T GC these guys just seem to be so focused as I watched them yesterday very focused straight faces and so consistent throughout the entire day Jerry break it down why are these guys so consistently good well they’re young they they’re almost like a family they all know each other so well um they all stay together each and every week they travel together most weeks they won four times last year and I think the fact that they weren’t able to win that team championship left them with something to Pro prove collectively uh this year and I think this might be a huge first first step toward it to be the you know to be the the visiting team that comes in and takes the win from the home favorites yeah it’s that’d be a big step for [Music] them as Jerry mentioned it is so tight the score so close amongst individuals and teams let’s take a look back how we got here the way it’s shaping up here Cameron Smith is going to be well in the mix going into Championship Sunday and ripc likewise will be going for the team title to have our first team win this year at home would be awesome Matt Jones you absolute Beauty fantastic we’re close right where we want to be and think the boys we’ll be ready to go tomorrow yeah pretty sweet especially even yesterday I played the way I did come back today and uh en true that score and just uh give the boys a good boost very satisfying Brendan steel is playing the round of his live golf FL the High Flyers they are flying high it’s a huge opportunity we’ve put ourselves in a great spot and and we want it back Ripper is just feeding off the energy I don’t I don’t think it’s extra pressure for him I think it’s just extra motiv CR is pretty amazing I they going to be R for them but I feel like you’ll be a CO experience T lead the team event they haven’t finished outside the top five so far this season but they yet to win could this get them off the mark it’ll be tough it’ll be like every other week we’ve been up there a couple of times we were up there in Hong Kong and and couldn’t quite get over the Finish Line a lot of stuff has got to go right obviously you know everyone’s got to show up you know hope we can we can do that you’re big Sunday know we [Music] do you got to love that uh you got to love that dance there uh at the end big day for the High Flyers as you can see them there on the Range getting ready and joining us to chat we have a guest a very special guest joining us is High Flyers GC team manager Peter Davis welcome to the show and thanks thanks for having me guys it’s thanks so much for joining man uh before we talk about your team’s incredible performance for those watching I would love for you to give a little insight on your day today how you keep these guys doing what they do best yeah I mean today’s going to be a fun day for us obviously we’re we’re one back of of torge and you know those guys are going to be tough to catch um but we’re excited you know we haven’t had the start to the season we might have wanted but um to get a good good team finish this week and a couple of good individual finishes would would go miles for us just over the course of the season so should be a exciting day I mean where else would you rather be I mean as been packed as the GM for as Phil told you g you’re GM for the Yankees even though they’re not winning right now they’re not the dynasty that he wants them to be what do you see as the difference in their performance this week versus the disappointing start to the season you know it it’s funny you ask that I don’t think there has been a huge difference I think you know especially with all four scores counting on Sunday we just haven’t had the all four guys firing at the same time and um you know having a couple weeks off obviously Phils in the Masters but for everyone else to to kind of take a step back and before we go to Singapore and here obviously to think what they really need to do is has been important I mean the guys are they’re all in the house this week they have a chef so um they’re they’re wasn’t as well so we’re looking forward to a good day heard the chef’s pretty good as well now Andy ogl Tre he might not be used to that type of treatment living in the house hanging with Phil and uh the chef and all that but he played incredible golf last year in the limited starts he had in Liv Golf and then also winning The International series order of Merit to guarantee his spot here when that happened Phil nabbed him up quickly very very quickly what what do you think has been responsible for the slowest start for Andy this year look think for Andy obviously he has very high expectations of himself um last year he he proved I mean he was out here as an alternate all year which I think really helped him because he he understood what it what it takes to be out here right he and he knows kind of the flow of the weeks he’s been to all these places played all these courses before um and then in the off weeks went out there and and dominated on the international series and you know as you mentioned he was our our top Target in the off season and we were uh really glad we got him and um you know with him it’s it’s the same thing it’s really high expectations but he’s just got to do what what we know he can do and um obviously got off to a great start on Friday and I know he’s fired up to have another good day today well Peter I know one of the the most favorite things these guys have said is the watering hole they’ve really enjoy it we love to hear your take on it here’s some tweets as you can see uh go high fers GC talk about this Watering Hole how special it is maybe some of your favorite moments that you’ve had seeing your guys on that hole Yeah I mean especially all three guys playing together on on Friday they all they all are just looking forward to it right I mean I mean look at that it’s it’s unbelievable you don’t you don’t see that everywhere and I mean they were doing that and you know maybe it was one group through right that was at 11:30 a.m. and these guys are having the time of their life I mean I walked over there the other morning it was 9:00 a.m. and the thing was packed and I you know I thought I was there at the wrong time but um it’s really cool to see and you know for us last year coming to Adelaide you know it was such a just boost of energy for for all the guys like this is really what live golf can be um coming back here this year the the certainly the expectations are high but I mean this crowd hasn’t hasn’t let us down and and to have the support of the sponsors and the government here has been fantastic you know uh High Flyers only one Podium finish in their existence I’m reminding you of this like you don’t know that right um but they’re in a position this week to get their first win Phil enjoys doing things right when things go good meaning that fight for the team to Singapore is going to be something legendary are you going to give us firsthand reports if that happens fingers crossed um hopefully so I mean you know I think the guys are all really excited to go out there today and um you know it’s going to be a battle both individually and and as a team it’s it’s funny if you look at that team the individual leaderboard it’s nearly identical to Tucson last year almost identical absolutely right Danny Lee Kevin n obviously Brendan Lou usth tasen and uh Meo and Carlos of of torque so um some similarities in the courses but uh you know hopefully for us we can uh have a different result you know that Danny Lee putt last year was was incredible so there’s a team leaderboard here Peter I I always wonder too when you see this Leaderboard on days like this for you guys huge day for High Flyers GC do you give them a pep talk is there anything you do differently on the final day no you you let them do what they do best I mean what people forget is for all these guys to be here they are some of the most competitive people you’ll ever meet so um you know they want it individually but also have a team up there and even if you’re not you know Brendan’s leading and and Cameron’s not far behind but for the rest of the guys today today means a lot even if you’re not in that that top 10 so you know Phil uh when he when he brought on Brandon steel early in 23 he said that in his opinion Brendon steel is one of the top three drivers of the golf ball on the face of the Earth um that has been that was his key to success in Tucson as well as a hot butter that seems to really be his key here today doesn’t it yeah and I mean it’s it’s been really cool to see all all the guys play into their strengths and try to help each other you know Brendan’s been helping Phil with his driver Cameron’s been helping some of the other guys with his P putting which is which is world class so it’s totally different than it would be on the PJ tour but um you know it’s really cool it’s not just us right a lot of the other teams like you mentioned tqu they’re all bought in they all show up to the welcome party wearing the same stuff so but for these guys to go out there and be able to help each other um different parts of the game that you know they just might need someone else to explain it in a different way um is has been a huge boost for for all of them in in all different areas well Peter thank Blandy for I’ll tell you that story another time but I really believe that guy has a ton of great he’s six back I think that’s too far for Bland to pass all those people my official prediction is it’s the good news for him somebody named cam will win okay Cam Smith Cameron tringali they’re both right there but Steel’s not going to be easy he’s not going to give it away someone named cam win’s not bad huh we’ll take it yeah all right we talked about that Watering Hole earlier well I’m going to toss back over to the watering hole but this time to David and Arlo what’s up boys Christian David and I have been let out of a hermetically sealed commentary box for the first time this week we’re on the 12T the watering hole it’s already crazy here David have you ever seen anything like this no I I think what we’re seeing here Arlo is the evolution of the Australian sports fan the players are warming up on the Range as we speak these people are warming up at the bar we’re going to see some tremendous technique and throwing by the time Cameron Smith gets here this tea will be so covered in beer that it will actually be h itself what’s the pressure like for these players when they get here because ordinarily they don’t see crowds like this on this scale with this sort of news and the music as well you know I think the noise actually helps because if it was suddenly down to a complete silence you know that would be pressure but you know there’s tremendous support around here you know there just such a great time I think every single player enjoys it absolutely big day of course Christian for Brendan steel for Danny Lee but I think a vast majority of the people here you see Ripper hats and t-shirts everywhere they’re behind Matt Jones cam Smith and Ripper GC can the take advantage of incredible nature and wildlife experience that South Australia offers earlier this week team Stinger visited Cleveland Wildlife Park in Adelaide Hills where they got to meet Mandy to koala and feed kangar aroos speaking of kangaroos Sebastian Munos and honor Bon leiri took a short 30 minute flight to Kangaroo Island a stunning place where they got to see kangaroos and spectacular views of the Southern Ocean as they enjoyed a clifftop walk when they visited Southern Ocean Lodge as you can see it’s a beautiful day here in Adelaide there’s one person we haven’t uh checked in with yet in a while she goes by the name of Rachel Drummond hey Rachel what’s going on over there I can’t hear myself think team it is so loud down here but we have so much action the Rippers are looming High Flyers just here Phil mikkelson the captain isn’t warming up yet but they’re looking for the first team and first individual Trophy this week let’s have a look at the crowds I’m grabbing you right who’s your team this week oh I’m Majestics I couldn’t tell by the Hat who’s your favorite Majestics player a Henrik it’s got to be Henrik yeah all SED is a legend didn’t he have a good day thank away have you seen Casey Stoner no I can’t find him we’ve lost him right smash GMAC come with me going to grab him gmac’s left and all oh he’s starting on the 12th today it’s going to be absolute Carnage tqu here they are warming up Andrew Cummings I spoke to his Casey Stoner you ran away from me only gone five yards now so you played with Anthony Kim what did you learn from Anthony um quite a lot on the the putting side of things uh a little to do with reading greens Etc but um what I learned from watching him was how different uh I think how far things have come in terms of the way uh people approach their ball flights and the way that um you know probably the ball has changed the the way it comes off the club has changed he’s still creating shots that I didn’t really see anybody else out there doing you know you watch one t- shot after another and then you watch Anthony and he’s still able to to Really flight the ball very low and he’s still very good at getting his distancing and his gapping so um everything from sort of you know 120 in he was surprising good to watch someone who’s been out of it that long I could tell you’re a golf lover with that answer right one more I normally ask this question the other way around you’re a two-time World Champ What could you teach these golfers with mentality the mental side is is very different you know we’ve um we’ve got to approach things and and I suppose it’s similar in some ways very different but we’ve sort of got to overcome fear I suppose to to get ourselves to a different point um and dealing with that and they’ve got to overcome fear of what the the possible shot outcome could be or the what they sort of got to play off and um you know that’s always going to be getting there in the back of your mind so when it comes to that um that last minute pressure cooker it’s the the hardest thing is trying to uh except what you’ve got to do and these guys know what they’re doing they’re hit shot after shot um they’ve been doing this for many years but it is very hard when I suppose it comes down to uh crunch time and uh and and making it count when it really matters I think you could teach him a lot Casey thank you so much it’s so true about fear and golf but you know he’s risking life or death right we got the four races Patrick Reed leading the way and I want to run quickly over to the iron heads we’ve got Danny Lee who is on the hunt for his second Victory I’m just going to charge in quickly Danny one quick question what’s the game plan today keep making birdies I guess uh I’m hitting it well putting it well my whole game looks good today so just keep my head down and just enjoy it out there I think and not getting people like me annoy you keep warming up good luck right you heard it from Danny it is going to be an absolute birdie Fest and the winner is going to need to make so many out there today Christian who do you think it’s going to be hey Rachel honestly I don’t know if I’m qualified to answer that question but I’ll tell you who I want to see cam Smith that that was was easy all right let’s uh toss it over to Dom and suan what’s going on guys today is going to be a big day for cam Smith obviously the crowd’s going to be rooting for him he said in his press conference yesterday that he’s feeling a little pressure and he’s definitely feeling a little bit tired it is a lot to do on and off the golf course this week he’s got the weight of Australia on his shoulders but the thing is for Cam he’s been such a process oriented guy and it seems like he’s been doing that all week long it certainly showed a lot yesterday as well he’s very very focused and that’s exactly what he needs to do today it is a big day for cam but it’s a big day for Brendan steel to who’s a three-time winner on the PGA tour and yesterday he shot eight underpar losing Strokes to the field in putting if he hits it like he’s been hitting it and he putts just half decently I think he’s going to run away with this but if he doesn’t there’s 12 guys at 10 on par who can spoil the party hey big thanks to uh suan and Dom as you can hear we are just moments away from the action thank you guys
