all right fourth time PGA Champion Tiger Woods joins us now at the 106 PGA Championship Tiger welcome back to Valla and your 23rd PGA Championship uh you were part of one of those most memorable finishes in this championship’s history uh back in 2000 when you look back at that what do you remember most well I just remember the pressure that I felt uh with the chance and opportunity to do something that Ben Hogan did in 1953 and uh the summer it was a was a whirlwind I was playing well and then coming into this event uh be able to play in Jack’s play with Jack in his last PGA Championship uh and then also just the the timeline it was it was Jack played in played with Jean szon in his last PGA and I was playing with Jack in his last PGA so um just a connection with all that and uh obviously making a putt on 18 and getting into the playoff and making a nice putt on the 16th hole run after it um lot of great memories from that week and uh be able to go head-to-head with with Bob Bay who was arguably probably one of the best Junior golfers that uh Southern C ever produced and um it was it was a fun it was a fun week and fun unbelievable moments really great thanks tiger we’ll open it up for questions starting with Jeff T just expanding on that a little bit when you look at this great collection of Victories and Majors You’ve Won where does that Sunday with Bob may fit in well I think that the The Duel between us both uh I think if I remember is correctly Bob shot three straight 66s and uh uh our back nine we both shot 31 on the back nine uh with leading the championship and mean know both of us playing as well as we did uh with all that all that pressure and we kept feeding off on one another he’d make a putt I’d make a putt I’d make a putt he’d make a putt and it was it was a fun back nine and that was the first year they went to U the three- hole playoff and when I when we got in in the scoring table uh I remember that we were informed it was a three- old playoff and Bob was completely shocked by that uh because that I I don’t think that it really got out that much that that potentially could be the uh the way it plays out in and uh you know going going back to 16 as I said uh I made a nice putt there ran after it he made a unbelievable chip from the right rough and almost hold it uh again we we never really miss shots on that back nine and then in the three hole playoffs and you know for us to shoot those lowest scores um it was special we’ll go to Mike nine followed by 7 six and one tiger since the last time that you were here in 2014 do you feel like the course has has changed a great deal or is it pretty much the same place uh it’s gotten bigger it got a little bit longer I think they extended six six T’s uh since we played in 14 and uh opened up some of the the the areas so there’s more flow of less trees um it’s definitely different than when we played in 2000 uh but it it is still the same framework that we played in in 2000 and so the same corridors but it just got a little bit bigger a little bit longer just like all golf courses and uh all all all championships that we go to now uh I’m looking forward to one of the day they said we we shorten this whole up U because it seems like every time we come back and play it’s always getting longer seven uh tiger state of your game state of your body and state of your ability to play what’s a pretty hilly golf course yeah my my body’s okay you know it it is what it is I I wish my game was a little bit sharper um I again I don’t have a lot of competitive reps um so having to rely on my practice sessions and um getting stuff done either at home or here on on site um but at end of the day it’s I need to be ready mentally and physically come Thursday and um these days of practicing eating on the golf course and that’s one the reason I came up on Sunday um just knock off some of the the work that I have to do on in charting greens uh get all that stuff done early and so I can focus on literally you know playing and plotting plotting my way around Dan over here hey the uh the internet is loving the goatee is it a is that a conscious choice or laziness and and is it here all week it’s it’s the second I’m definitely lazy um so I cut myself this morning trying to trim it up so it it is what it is like one tiger 10 years ago when you were here you were dealing with back issues and it obviously got worse and you went through a lot how is it compared to then I mean is is it better or are you just dealing with something different with your back now as you try to play it’s not different um at that time I was maybe one one back procedure into it um now it’s a have a lot more of that number uh back is now fused as you know um yeah coming to 14 I I wasn’t feeling very good uh but you know I’m always going to feel soreness and stiffness in my back but that’s okay um just need other body parts to start feeling better back to one Mark excuse me hey tiger um we just had Max in here earlier this morning and he was talking about the two rounds he played with you at Augusta and was raving about what you still do on the golf course and and you’re the shots you’re still able to hit I’m curious to you how much of a tease is it for you when you know you still have it in there even at this age and and you how do you kind of deal with that as you go yeah Mark I I mean I can still hit shots it’s getting around is you know the the the more of the difficulty that I fa on on dayto day and the recovery of pushing myself either in practice or in competition days I mean you saw at Augusta I I was there after two days and didn’t do very well on the weekend do just as a quick follow do you still you have feel like you have it in you because you you’re still able to hit those shots in your mind you know yeah I still feel that I can I can win golf tournaments uh I still feel I can hit the shots and still feel like I have my hands around the greens and I can putt uh I just need to do it for all four days not like I did Augusta for only two we’ll go next to Mike 14 followed by 2012 and 10 tiger given the news yesterday that uh Jimmy Dunn said that there’s been no meaningful progress made on the divide and Gulf right now what’s your level of confidence that an agreement will get done at all much less on any kind of schedule well I think we we’re working on um negotiations with with piff um it’s ongoing it’s fluid it changes in dayto day um has it been progress yes um but it’s it’s an ongoing negotiation so um a lot of work ahead for all of us U with this process and so we we’re making steps and it may not be Giant Steps but we’re making steps 20 tiger what are the just just following on from that what are the specific things that you would like to that you would like to see for a deal to go ahead and are you are you personally open to a deal with the Saudis well I’m not going to comment on whether or not uh our our negotiations and and in that nature except that we’re we’re making steps um that’s all I can say are you are you personally open to it I’m personally in in the involved in the process mike 12 tiger as a dad who’s a golf pro what advice would you have for Scotty shuffler say that again what as a as a dad who’s a golf professional what advice would you have for Scotty Sheffer get some sleep I mean he’s got uh obviously the he and Meredith U fantastic you know having their their first and those are those are as we all of us who have had children uh those are some tough years and ahead of them uh as I said uh trying to get some rest and as much as you possibly can I he’s number one player in the world and having a great stable Family Life at home um is important to having a great life uh out here on tour well 10 then 11 hey tiger right over here uh the crowds you still see for practice rounds or even just the people who come out to watch you now at 48 do do you feel differently when you see that now as opposed to even maybe 10 years ago or 5 years ago I think it I appreciate it more now um just the fact that I I don’t come out here very often I don’t play much and I’m at home where it’s quiet and it’s so so different to come out to uh practice rounds when there’s thousands of people out there um like it was at Augusta and a bunch of people came out today unfortunately the weather didn’t really cooperate um I’m sure there’ll be a lot more tomorrow now that it’s cleared out but it it appreciating the the warmth um and the support of the fans uh is something that probably 10 years ago certainly didn’t appreciate uh that then as much I as I do now mik gate or 11 sorry yeah tiger Rory said last week in Charlotte that that you and him see the future of golf a little bit differently what’s your position what do you see as the future well I I think that we we see the it it’s good to see it differently but um but collectively as a whole we want to see whatever is best for all the players the fans uh and the state of golf and how we get there you know that’s to be determined but the fact that we’re we’re in this together and in this fight together to make golf better um is what it’s all about right now to M gate followed by two tiger um Justin mentioned earlier when he was in here that you know one of his core memories here is watching you when he was a kid when when in 2000 here what’s your sense for what as close as you are to him what what this means for him to have this championship in his in his hometown well I think that I don’t know if G DT was in diapers still or not but um I I think that that having a major come to your hometown where you grew up and um it’s special for him special for Mike and Janney and uh everyone who’s been involved in his life and this is where is a HomeTown um and the fact that he’s able to play a major championship U where he grew up is is special uh unfortunately I I can’t say that I ever have just because I I missed the the US Open at um La country club would have been nice to play in my hometown uh but for have to have JT come here and he’s going to get some the appreciation and the fans and and The Ovations are going to be loud for him as as they should be Rex tiger yeah Rex you said at the Masters that you were going to talk to Seth after that week about maybe captaining next year’s Rider Cup team did that meeting take place and if so is there any update uh we’re still talking um there’s nothing that has been confirmed yet uh we’re still working on what that might look like uh and also whether or not I have the time to do it I have I’m dedicating my so much time to what we’re doing with the PJ tour uh I I don’t want to um not not fulfill the role of the captaincy if I can’t do it um what that all entails and representing Team USA and the commitments to the pg of America the um the players and the fans and as I said all of Team USA uh I need to feel that I can give the amount of time and that it deserves back to two then to six tiger Scotty’s uh playing with a consistency that is very reminiscent of you uh at your Peak and Rory showed like on Sunday he has another gear which is also reminiscent of you uh at your Peak what do you see when you watch those two uh play golf well two very different styles obviously with Scotty’s um what he does through the golf ball and with his with his footwork or you have Rory who has arguably the best finish of a swing you know in golf it looks like a statue right um they’re they’re two totally different players um the ality is I think the is the focus and and when you’re on the Range and watching them hit golf balls or listening more so listening to the hit golf balls uh there’s a different sound to it because they just don’t miss the middle of the face and uh I think obviously Scotty’s not as long as Rory and he can’t probably separate himself on a golf course like that with pure length uh but his ball striking the amount of greens he hits he just wears you out that way and then his amazing Pair of Hands R the greens uh if he putts awful then he finishes in top 10 he putts decent uh he wins he putts great he runs away uh so uh he’s just that good a ball Striker and that go of allaround player and Rory uh just way he able to take over a golf course and just overpower it um I kind of remember that back in when I was younger it’s been a while Adam tiger in uh resigning from the PG tour board yesterday Jimmy Dunn assessed his role as Superfluous do you agree with that no I think that he was Jimmy and the amount of of work and dedication that he put into the board and to the PJ tour uh um it’s been incredible and uh it was a bit surprising that uh he resigned in well yesterday and just how it all came about uh but no his role and his his help then what he’s be able to do for the PJ tour uh it’s been great we’ll finish up with Mike 18 20 12 and 13 tiger you you’ve talked in the past couple years about how yes uh you’ve got the shots but maybe it’s managing your body and and the Walk of 72 or 90 holes how what is what does this course present as a challenge to your body well it’s uh I wouldn’t say the the walk’s that that difficult I know it’s it’s a long walk it’s a big piece of property um more than anything just stay out of the rough uh you this this is a a big golf course and if you get in the rough here um yeah things things could get a little bit sore um but if I drive it well and and do the things I need to do and what I did 24 years ago hopefully it works tiger in in resigning Jimmy Dunn sort of hinted at the fact that the players kind of hold the majority on the policy board do you do you believe that the players are best qualified to hold sway in terms of determining the future well the the PJ tour is for the players and by the players and so um we have an influence and um there’s there’s roles for the player directors and there’s roles for the independence and we’re trying to make the PGA Tour the the best it can be you know day in and day out um that’s one of the reason why you know we have arguments and we have disagreements um but we we want to do what’s best for everyone in in golf and the tour um without those kind of conflict I don’t think there’s going to be that much that the the progress is not going to be there um so it’s been good uh tiger hey uh obviously this is not going to be an Apples to Apples comparison but you you played Augusta so many times you played Tory Pine so many times and you know given that you’ve won there and you’ve won here is there just a comfort level and coming back to a course where you know that hey you know how to get the job done yeah I I you know it’s been 24 years and and you know 10 years ago I did not play very well um but the memories of coming back here and uh reliving some of the the shots that I was able to pull off back then uh we were talking earlier this week or sorry ear in the OR sorry Wednesday last week when we came up and how many two irn I used to hit you know off this property now it’s everything is drivers um just because they move moved it back it’s longer me the first h I hit driver in a 60° sandwich in there uh today I hit a driver in a fivewood so it’s a bit different and tiger earlier you mentioned um the state of golf and fans and I’m wondering from your vantage point where you think that relationship stands now and why well I think that the the fans are are probably as tired as we are of the talk of not being about the game of golf and about not being about the players it’s about uh what Liv is doing what we’re doing um players coming back um players leaving uh the the fans just want to see us play together and how do we get there yes you know to be determined how much damage do you think has been done by all of this we’ve made some progress yes for sure um but there’s so there’s a long way to go still all right thanks for your time tiger we appreciate it appreciate it

  1. Grab a very comfortable rocker,a bottle of your favorite drink and let the kids find their place in this world. You can always be there for support but let them choose their next move.

  2. Of course, got to keep that money coming. That yacht of his takes a lot of diesel!!

  3. I hope Tiger can improve on his Masters performance where he struggled in round 3 & 4. He shouldn't respond to media clickbait questions about winning.
