back and to pitch with or seconds left on the 22nd pitch clock yeah she’s embraced the new clock which we’re seeing in the SEC fully for the first time this year fires over to strike two and one to Smith it’s not a deep Kentucky pitching St if they’re going to make a run in the postseason they’re going to have to find some more arms and scoon over under the ticking clock has been their most reliable all [Applause] [Music] year the 23rd start 34th appearance of the Season out of Vicksburg Mississippi Stephanie skover had a 181 pitch game this season against Alabama look Kentucky we had him early in the year against Florida they were run ruled in the series they started 0 and six very un Kentucky like such a consistent program for Rachel awon but they have improved as the years’s gone on and the air to left drill by Smith and that ball is [Applause] gone PA Smith the home run at the SEC tournament once again it’s her time of the year had a game winner against LSU last season and as the first of the SEC tournament in 2024 for most of SEC play but had a good last couple of [Applause] weekend did not hit a home run in the League this year in conference games 171 and she hits one in the first half of the conference tournament three and now for anley furos [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] areic tough as it is but scon over is better against right-handed hitters than left-handed [Music] hitters strike one there is suddenly some heft in the middle of this Old Miss lineup especially Smith is going to going fush and de Leon have been two of the hottest hitters in the league the past couple of weekends Angelina D owns on a seven game hit streak swings through a high one from over one and two four home runs all in the last 10 games she had one in the first three games of her she’s backto back strike but a home for p Smith Miss can make it hold up against this Kentucky starting lineup not a great lineup by average on base percentage but they hit for power 67 home runs SP in the SEC Eric C Grace lung in the two and four spots the co- leers with 13 they to face Grace Sparks sophomore rander gets the ball for Jamie trael she’ll face Riley Smith the senior and begin the game of a hard strike one G Sparks is talented coming from Texas and sophomore to keep the ball down 20 ER 70 Innings pitch this Miss pitching staff has likeed to spread the love around their pitching staff a lot of the pitchers getting on the action pretty equally at the in with the Innings when you look at the numbers race Sparks so more of a Down ball pitcher two strikes on Smith was the first of four straight seniors to open this Kentucky lineup Riley Smith leading the Wildcats 378 the batting average had a really nice year five triples to go with those four home runs and she chases one down and away so gr Sparks hits her strength mil her go pitch is that drop she’ll throw it most of the time and her best swing Miss is actually her screw ball when you look at the numbers ball up hitting 202 off that drop she throws a little more than four out of every 10 pitches it’s an staff that has a bunch of different pitchers that all seem to throw four or five pitches so they can keep you off balance Eric K pops one up in a short right field she’s retired by the right Feld Jamie MC so a rarity against is not walked and she’s reti on just two pitches SEC you can never breathe but getting through Aaron cof allows you a little bit more of an exhalation giv her strength in this Kentucky lineup two down Vanessa nesby slaps one out of play kind of a unique three hole hitter for Rachel Lawson to put Vanessa nesby in that three hole more of a slapper speed player run through the box and slap like she just did on that first foul ball has really good short game but it’s not often that you see a slapper like her in the three spot she hadn’t hit higher than seven until last weekend hit third against Tennessee she was only one for 11 but Rachel Lawson told us we needed to put the ball in play more and they feel like nb’s one of their better hitters at doing that only nine strike outs on the year down takes down for ball two I mean you just don’t really see a slapper in the three spot very often especially being The Hitter that hits behind Aaron C the more powerful hitter in this Kentucky lineup in the country only two extra base hits on the year they’re both doubles a 3-1 count Kentucky 8 and 16 in the leag this year 30 and 21 overall all CS finished nth last season they’re 12th out of 13 this year their first time in the opening round game at the tournament SL one down retired by Ryan star two first Inn for Sparks is Alysa L we’re so happy to have her with us all postseason the hardest working woman in the secc that’s up in that one got the bat of Lexi Brady two Quicks for over away Jamie MC to sophore right [Music] fielder foul by m off the net into the Kentucky Dugout One of eight randers in the lineup only Jaden pone bats left against skover [Music] mentioned the numbers ear much against 173 compared to 267 from short that’s just in time to get McKay great defense in the inning for Kentucky all Vanessa teams in the top 30 the RPI they’re 13 teams in the league all misses the other their RPI 4 four which seems to put them right around the cut line bubble when you’re factoring automatic bids to the tournament 64 teams will make [Applause] it probably needs at least one win now they do have a better strength of schedule than most teams in their position but Les we forget there could be some bid thieves in some smaller conferences where there’s going to be an at large bid if the top seat doesn’t win it so to feel safe a win maybe even two for Old Miss here maybe that’s not even enough to quite feel safe but the bottom line is they are not safe if they don’t win this game they’re not and I think that’s why as a player especially if you’re a senior you’re playing every game like it might be your last that ball latched in the left pton PL is the first Kentucky base runner The Freshman right fielder by The Freshman back to back with freshman friend ky’s designated player tonight low strike from the sophomore Sparks Kentucky native Hutchins it was two for over the weekend at Tennessee but both hits were homers drove in five [Music] Rachel Lawson said about ali Hutchins that she’s one of the smartest players I’ve ever coached at this age High Praise from a coach who’s been doing it for a long time has had a lot of smart softball IQ players throughout her [Music] program quickly got the nickname clutch Hutch a walk-off hit against Stanford early in the season really nice for the Kentucky resume they started the season against one of the best teams in the nation Stanford taking them down digs one out stays alive on two strikes well you made a good point because this Kentucky season has had the highs at the beginning and then some struggles in between and now they’re trying to finish strong here at the end it’s put together this NCA tournament resume with their RPI being 28 and their strength of schedule being seven have played a challenging schedule this year to left field off the stay terat forone of the second [Music] outt so two down for GRE Sparks a sophomore Carissa Hamilton will B you think about it Kevin they have two wins against Stanford who’s in the top five top 10 and RPI and at the top of the Pack 12 they had those two back in February those are big WIS on ky’s [Music] resume side they’re going to make the tournament they’re not in a position where they’re going to be a host seed with the RPI of 28 so you’re playing maybe to get yourself a little bit of a better match up playing though to play well and keep forward momentum into the tournament Kentucky can be dangerous the question for them is the pitching over we mentioned 268 ra the rest of the staff in the fours or fives but you just never know with a team with this kind of Talent with four seniors at the top with cell and then bson Hutchins we’ve seen freshman with that kind of Talent break out this before again any team that beat Stanford twice can go into a regional unfazed of any pitcher they’re going to face well Niger candid was one of those games she pitched one of those two games against Kentucky so they be arguably the best pitcher in the country nine wins against quad one teams n and 15 takes AOW one off spe for strike from Sparks nice change up there by Sparks her fourth most thrown pitch out of the five she throws hard in fou away well and you mentioned too what Kentucky is playing for it’s not necessarily to grab a top eight seed or top 16 or to get into the tournament but they’re playing to be here and to feel this experience a postseason experience with the cameras and the crowd and just the overall Vibe and bigness of the SEC tournament try to get everybody more experience bouncing ball to short that star that’s the inning gr Sparks pitching well two scoreless and Lee in that tournament four complete games in the four wins that is The Shining Star for Miss the SEC tournament they’re 4 and 10 outside of that all 11 SEC tournaments for Miss that’s the only one where they’ve won multiple games which again they may need to do this year to try to make it to the NCAA field Ryan star number nine hitter transfer from Syracuse the Oxford of Central New York it’s commonly called star and 91 and2 for the rebels [Applause] Scot over is up away I just like the way that this team especially late the season has embraced playing on the road like Alyssa was talking about I think that that’s such a big part of their Story Jamie traxel said we’re battle tested we know that we have to win on the road and they’ve played in some tough places too some big stadiums they gone to Texas A&M they’ve gone to Arkansas Alabama LSU those are stadiums that big attendance numbers at those places tough places to play I mean SEC is tough in general but especially those that list right there they’re the first team to beat LSU this year LSU was the last undefeated team of the country started 24 and0 after winning the opener home to miss and the rebels won 52 and 92 in the last two games this is the worst record in the SEC the first team in the nation to beat LSU by star she’ll beat the throw from Scot and a boost from R star just a 163 in the ninth spot Works her way on with an infield hit yeah scoot over did everything that she could but just a good job the heartbeat of this Old Miss team maybe Jaya just a sophomore no we ask Jam about her we’re going to the big South player of the year for the Longwood Lancers sitting 41 stealing 36 bases had seven triples and she’s been a terrific addition to miss a little out of Z it’s a first two [Music] swings and sing right fine is going to score not even a play at the PA smithi doing it [Applause] teammates she had 83 appearances in conference no Homer that’s what she’s done tonight [Applause] have to zoom out and you have to remember what an amazing career K Smith has RB away from tying Abby for the All Miss RBI record and that’ll kick the UK Bullpen Sydney Lang up been impressed Kev with the way that Miss has batt to this point was off the game with a strike out Qui two and then it was PA Smith who hit that home drills one pitchon and the bases are loaded on a hit by [Music] pitch and hit batter a lot of hit batters this season right there in the the ham hit the batter she’s hit this season over Kentucky is a team set 55 that’s 17 more than anybody in the league so now Angelina Deon on a seven game history has been home run crazy as the base is loaded down and takes one down and when we talk to Jamie trael about their end of the season she really felt like consistency and execution just have been coming together right at the same time here at the end of the season for her team and she referenced back to the series against Alabama where they left 27 Runners on base a big motivating factor to a little bit more emphasis on coming through with those Runners on base and scoring position and it’s something that you have to have in the postseason it’s something that you have to do here at this tournament to win it to make a Deep Run big chance here for to bolster up their lead big pitch here for skover Tak it for strike two Junior from Valley Springs California Angelina H Smith furbush the runners in front of her on this 32 which is ripped right through scon over battles back from down 31 for a critical K and her first strike out struck out 29 pitches in the first two innings for skover [Music] got a strike on the swing there Carl golden the pitch coach for Miss comes out Jamie trael out to talk to the infield as well Kentucky has struggled a bit this year finding dep in the lineup and the eight n spots come through but MIT to pinch hitter at second singling her over em Donalds on is a pinch runner for her and it’s the sparkling Smith against Sparks with two on and nobody out CH down at that from Sparks for strike one you know one of the biggest question marks for Kentucky is coming in the season was going to be their lead off hitter after the career that Kayla kallik had at Kentucky in that spot for four straight years wow and Riley Smith has just owned that spot and came they put her there a little bit in the middle of the season but here lately she’s just owning that spot and contributing big time at the top of the order for cont a lot of different ways 16th Straight Lead offs 16th time let off straight for Kentucky leads him in batting average 378 lot of good chances for Aon C with a runner on base and unless there’s a triple player three-run Homer Aaron cof the alltime RBI leader at Kentucky is going to have some people on base one two from Sparks in ball to Second TR in Deon will make the play at first so that’s essentially a sacrifice but moves the runners up to second and third for C well and that’s what coach Lawson has liked about him so much in that leadoff spot just so productive with Runners on base doing what’s needed of her normally with the base open teams don’t pitch to Aaron cof this may not be a normal situation necessarily down normally Old Miss doesn’t pitch to her they did in the first inning they got C to fly out to right see the G on base percentage 44 walks and hit by 15 pitches this [Music] year I would pitch around her I mean I don’t there’s no way I would give her anything to hit with face open that’s what Miss typically does they’ve retired her five times but they have pitched around her in some form 11 11 of the 17 plate appearances of free pass they do pitch two on 2 and she demolishes it foul this was crushed fall out I just personally feel like your playe with fire if you give her something to hit especially after what she did with the one swing that she’s had in the sit backat first base open you got to make somebody else beat you but Aaron C it would seem surprising if this pitch is within the same zip coat as a strike zone it is and it’s fouled away they’re going after her Sparks Fearless has worked her way to a Full Count so it is not nesby it’s Erica thulan who’s grabbed the 32 for cof the all SEC Short Stop two on one out in the [Music] third when Eric cofell sees you a second time you typically do not succeed that’s the batting average we told you about all the walks and hit by pitches so she gets on base way more than half the time second time facing a starter the seventh pitch from Sparks Mitchell and Donaldson the runners one down C is not interested in Walking not chase that pitch microphones make every pop of the m and every contact just so crisp add that to the typical crispness of C swing down fins pitch Don’s home on the uncaught throw by the catcher Brady to Sparks and Kentucky scores two runs on a walk and a wild pitch this is certainly a way to get that and this pitch happens in gets away from Brady and of course Mitchell get a score easily but it’s this error that proves to cly for Miss Don come score to brucky legy Brady just completely missed that good read by Donald saw that ball get sparks around to score big there the risk you take in pitching to is that she will drive in they walk C and two walk wild pitch E2 and is going to come back to hit at second and one out one thing youti about Rachel Lawes is that Mes in pinch Runners pinch hits different situations because wasn’t even on Deck but once the situation played itself out it is it out of theg instead of a pinch she made the right call by bringing in Donalds to pinch right that may not be an easy read for most players going two bases to score on that wild pitch well how about Mitchell coming in forer to start off this inning the pinch hitter gets a hit pitch Runner scores a run it’s been all good in this bottom of the third for Rachel aw speed takes one just off the plate and now with a couple of runs in with a situation different she can save Erica one of her better pitch hits bigger spot later in the game two runs for each team here in the third the Old Miss Rebels and Kentucky wildcast in the first game [Applause] [Music] esqu ground ball stars to hurry out at first got her by a couple of hairs as C moves up to third look at thisle defense by Ryan star the base runner there and now Ling with two outs now will they pitch to her grace Lon 13 homers 34 driven in team lead RBI tied for the team lead in home runs it’s been a pitch around so far but you do have pton on Deck had a hard single her first time and has had a great Pressman year so you’re not pitching around to get to a weak hit given the onck H given to count how careful are you if your Sparks here I mean l has been really clutch in her career at Kentucky after she transferred over so you have to be careful here with her power corner to [Applause] corner to C to two on a strike call from Smokey Ed behind the pl ky’s RBI leader with C at third the tying run told us that she wouldn’t give away who was starting out short Ryan star Jayla to follow Rachel she thought Sydney Lang could be as good a match up as anybody on her sta Miss she really good throw 65 to Upper 60s her go is screw and her Red by reenter [Applause] theame as and I think this is all about what coach lawon wanted to get out of this tournament was that they’ had in particular a lot of midwe cancellations where may have not been throwing those and she would have had a chance to throw the other pitch on her staff like a freshman in Lon like a transfer in bickers so I like the fact that she’s making this change now getting her freshman into this postseason five experience and getting her some innings for ran star ball 13th relief and I feel Kentucky was not the only team that wasit by the canel game of started actually even in Clear Water the second weekend of February or the second weekend of season I should say can games there Nevers there and then it just kind of kept throughout the season they had seven canel games total five were midweek games UCF and Texas were their two cancel games in Clear Water and then these games against Charlotte San Diego State Northern Kentucky EAS Kentucky and Louisville those are prime opportunities to get the rest of your staff some experience yeah those five midweek games let’s say there’s a run rule or two in there maybe you’re looking at 30 to 35 in Stephanie skover is probably not throwing most or even close to most of those 35 Innings so you come into the SEC tournament scoot over is 156 and two3 innings langan’s only at 60 like a is at 47 and a third and when you look at the number of pitches thrown and SEC games pitcher by pitcher Stephanie skover the most pitches out of anybody in SEC play had the ball a lot had that 181 pitch game against uh Alabama she gets the ball aot and she can take it too she’s proven that in her career that she can take a high load of innings two strikes on lass strike out the sack intensity and passion words that jamy trael uses a lot talking about this sophomore from the state of [Music] Alabama great base stealer 192 hit games to lead the team out of Atmore Alabama two and a half hours or so away from here down in the Mobile area I mean you see that last week Jayla Lasser is such a dynamic player with her power speed her defense another 3-2 langon with some high heat Strikes Out Lasser who goes down swinging for a second time and that rise ball is her best swing and Miss pitch and this is pretty nasty number 098 batting average against that pitch it again there PE was down to third Chelsea Clark though in the middle of the infield is a strike to Jaden P ball up had a shut out struck out 10 in her season debut against s number 24 San Diego State Sydney Langdon that one way high off the glove of the catcher Hamilton and star will take second wild pitch thrown by langon men Kentucky leads the SEC in hit batters they also lead in Wild pitches two hit batters and a two-run third and now Langan will hope to work around a wild pits that move star into scoring position H right back to her snared by land and could not make the play at first Jaden Pawn puts Runners at the corners with star advancing to third great job to swing it having a terrific freshman year had a pinch hit two-run home run Sunday at Tennessee 878 inning loss for Kentucky which felt like they swung the bats well all weekend in Knoxville despite being [Music] swept well scoring 13 runs against that pitching staff is a hard task I mean that tied for the most runs that Tennessee had given up in a three-game sec Series this year with what Mississippi state had put up against Tennessee in one of those games Mississippi state run rolled Tennessee in game one of that series put up nine runs in that one game bouncing ball toward the middle good kick by star and she’s able to get rid of it after a [Applause] bobble she just moves differently with her glove work and the way that she throws on the run you can tell that she was trying to decide what angle which hop that she wanted to take how she wanted to take it kept her feet moving and then picked that pitch on a better hop pick that hop on a better hop and beautiful throw too this one’s a little bit easier for her the BR Hutchin couple of assists for the Syracuse transfer Ryan star here in the fort hey you learn how to field balls in the winter in central New York there’s nowhere you can’t play in field so seven ground outs for Sparks which plays into her strength as a big time drop ball pitcher who’s the first pitcher who shut out Arkansas in fville since Montana Fouts last year March 18th missed some time early in the season in March came back where Innings have been built up down the stretch 11 and a third last weekend the most she’s pitched in any weekend this year a drop ball is stoen and Kentucky keeps pounding it into the ground four Innings down Alysa Lang our entire SEC network crew we will really get this thing started tomorrow with a quadruple header day two beginning with LSU and Alabama in the 8 n game followed by the winner this game against Missouri top seeds waiting for Thursday Tennessee the defending sec Tournament champion back-to-back regular season Champion is the one Arkansas to Fort in Florida and Texas A&M the two and three respectively after the Gators took down A&M to end the season very nice bounce back season for Tim malton’s Florida Gator who were the eight seed last year and finished second this year they look like a legitimate World Series Contender again Angelina d with a high fly ball in the left center field and once again it’s nesby flying up against the fence to take away extra bases for earlier in the game she went back to her left this time she’s going to go back to her right she is just covering so much ground game pretty close she did it by the way right in front of the SEC network crew yeah so haly got a good look at that nb’s played everywhere in the Outfield field in Kentucky and she’s taking away extra base hits at least in right center and left Center in this game senior Captain not wanting her SEC tournament to end on day [Music] [Applause] one this was back Lexi Brady with a walk she reaches base for a second time remember she was the one robbed by nesby in the second so some good plate appearances for Brady tonight well and you can tell Jamie traxel after that walk going up to her tug Miss has chased a lot and Lon has continued to fall behind in these counts there’s another Chase right there but she’s going up to her Dugout reminding them hey we need to make her put the ball more over the plate just a 306 on base percentage in the league 11th of 13 teams that’s in the dirt Brady’s going to go for second she makes it safely a good read by Lexi Brady on a wild pitch be a good base runner there have been a lot of free bases and free passes handed out by Kentucky pitching second wild pitch thrown by Langdon in relief two strikes on Romo powered out of [Music] play Delany Romo had one home run on the season until two weeks weekends ago the Auburn series finale it’s their first home run since February 24th against Miami Ohio [Applause] another one [Music] two and grece Balman actually is first year pitching coach calling pitches for every pitcher in the Kentucky pitching staff except for Stephanie on the board first but good execution great at bats working the count when they need to being aggressive and hunting in hitters counts like d Leon and that 2-1 triple and there’s another walk Brady walks for a second time the seventh walk for Old Miss which has looked like anything but a 13 seed tonight this is the worst team in the conference 10 free passes tonight and five and two3 innings 15 three ball counts and you have to give them credit as well for getting Stephanie skover out of the game pretty early in this game she is kuy’s Ace she’s their go-to pitcher one of their captains you see that c on her uniform and got her out of the game early got to the bullpen three Innings three runs for her langed in an inning at a third one run despite walking four and now Vickers with a tough year in conference the worst Tove tournament Grace lung against Rel Bri Lopez struck out the pitch two on two out in the and Lopez a change up machine one there and Ling holds up you go back to that to BU and she’ll take a strike instead well you would think with kuy’s RPI being 28 and miss being 44 a better team I mean I think that but that would require me to know how the RPI works yeah yeah same that’s oh my probably we’re just really just kind of attacking these on obstruction DP Flex RPI and just the intricacies of is this bestus airing of grievances tonight oh man obviously it’s good it’s good for the resume it’s not a top 25 room but it’s close um here’s the if you’re just going by the data and you’re taking a conference out of it obviously the SEC gives you more opportunities hit since the third one and one Bri Lopez to Carissa Hamilton I think it’s a a good sign Kevin for their offense too because I feel like in their turnaround late in the season they’ve been led by their pitching staff and being able to pull the right strings put in the right relief pitcher have great moments from Bri Lopez as you mentioned that for erra these last several games under two but not just relying on her grace Sparks McKenna clether miss anley furbush everybody contributing to the pitching staff to make them really deep and to be able to utilize them with different matchups to keep offenses off balance little soft Looper to First Smith is there for the first out of the seven five pitchers with 60 Innings or more in the staff for all miss that is an uncommon situation mechanic CLE therm is who has their most starts most Innings coming into the game has not pitched tonight Caitlyn Riley has been their second best pitcher by erra and has made their second most start she didn’t pitch tonight so all Miss finishes is off they’re really well rested for Missouri tomorrow well and that’s so different than what you see from a lot of the other SEC teams where like even Kentucky relies on skover heavily Florida relies on Keegan Rothrock heavily Texas A&M relies on Emily Kennedy heavily it’s really unique that percentage of innings that’s spread out all throughout their pitching staff not just relying on one person here cthul and the pinch hitter and they all have different looks too Kevin you have Lopez with the change up you have CLE thermis with the rise ball you have Sparks with the drop ball they all have different looks that have made this really a complete pitching staff and tough to go up against be a tough Scout for Missouri I’d think who are you going to scout ple thermos Riley Lopez if she gets out of this inning quickly certainly be available for tomorrow great change up here buries his pitch in the dirt and still gets a swing and miss out of the zone and another swing in a Miss Lopez has struck out three out of six perfect in relief she has Miss one out Mo Harrison game where ky’s thrown everything at them they’ve used their entire
