>> Announcer: A golf cart takes a driver by surprise. >> He just slammed right into the side of my car. >> She hit me. >> Judge Judy: She hit you? >> Yes. >> Announcer: Now the judge… >> Judge Judy: Mr. Devost, you had a stop sign. She did not. >> Announcer: …tees up the facts. >> Judge Judy: The damage to the car is on the side. I don’t have to be a genius. I wasn’t good in math. I wasn’t good in physics. That is not my strong suit. Common sense is my strong suit. >> Announcer: "Judge Judy." >> Judge Judy: Mr. Devost, you were driving the golf cart. >> Yes. >> Judge Judy: Okay. You can sit down. Ms. Sorenson, it is your claim that Mr. Devost hit your car with his golf cart… >> Yes, ma’am. >> Judge Judy: …and caused a substantial amount of damage. >> Yes, ma’am. >> Judge Judy: It’s his claim that you blew a stop sign. When did this accident happen and where? >> December 6, 2018, in the Del Webb Spruce Creek community. >> Judge Judy: Where is that located? >> Summerfield, Florida. >> Judge Judy: You’re a full-time resident of Florida? >> Yes, ma’am. >> Judge Judy: And what about you, sir? >> I’m a full resident in Del Webb. >> Judge Judy: But just for my information, you live in Del Webb. Is that a gated community? >> Yes, it’s a gated community, 55 plus, golf course, golf cart community. >> Judge Judy: All right. Ms. Sorenson, what time of the day on the 6th of December did this happen? >> It was approximately 1:30 in the afternoon. >> Judge Judy: And you were playing golf, Mr. Devost? >> No, I was just driving my golf cart, talk to some friends. >> Judge Judy: Within the community? >> Yes. >> Judge Judy: Okay. Would you go over to the board, please, and show me approximately where this happened? >> Well, the main building is back in here, and I was coming out of the main building, came to the four-way stop sign, made a right-hand turn, and once you come down, there’s two parking lots because there’s a restaurant and a bar back here, and he was coming out from that area and came up to the stop sign and was sitting here. I was coming straight down the straightaway, and right as I got past this median here, he started to pull out, and I tried to swerve over to go around him, but he just slammed right into the side of my car. >> Judge Judy: And, Ms. Sorenson, there is no stop sign that you have. >> Here? >> Judge Judy: There’s no stop sign there. The only stop sign is coming out of the side streets. >> Correct. >> Judge Judy: Is that correct? >> Yes, ma’am. >> Judge Judy: Okay, very good. Now you can go over and show me your version of what happened. >> Your Honor, she came down here. >> Judge Judy: Right, well, you didn’t see her come down. >> And she claims she made a stop… >> Judge Judy: Did you… Just a second. >> And when she turned right here, and she came right… >> Judge Judy: Mr. Devost, Mr. Devost… >> …and hit me. >> Judge Judy: I don’t want you to tell me what you think. She describes that she came out, made a stop, and was pulling into the main thoroughfare. Go ahead. She was in the main thoroughfare. >> She came from nowhere. >> Judge Judy: Well, she didn’t come from nowhere. Okay. You can go back now. >> I looked both ways, and then… >> Judge Judy: Okay, you can go back now. Mr. Devost. >> Yes. >> Judge Judy: You had a stop sign. She did not. She didn’t come from nowhere. She came from down the street. Her car didn’t drop down from the middle of the sky. She was driving on the pavement. You had a stop sign. Your fault. >> I did. >> Judge Judy: No question. >> She… >> Judge Judy: You weren’t there. >> No, but I talked to her on the phone afterwards because she was harassing my husband, and then I… He handed me the phone… >> Judge Judy: Listen to me very carefully. >> And she said…I… >> Judge Judy: Listen to me very carefully. >> Yes, ma’am. >> Judge Judy: You weren’t there. Unless you’re going to tell me there’s another stop sign. >> There is. >> Judge Judy: Well, you get up and show me where there is another stop sign. >> I have pictures of it. >> Judge Judy: Show me over there where there is another stop sign. >> There’s a four-way stop sign right here. >> Judge Judy: Of course. Okay, so there’s a stop sign right there. >> And she did not, because when I talked to her on the phone… >> Judge Judy: No, no, no, no, no, no. Listen to me. >> Okay. >> Judge Judy: Your husband had a stop sign. >> So did she. >> Judge Judy: No, not where the accident took place. >> If I just… >> Judge Judy: Be careful. >> Yes. >> Judge Judy: Not where the accident took place. If there were six red lights before, and she blew red lights before, but at the place of the accident, your husband had a stop sign, and he hit her, then it’s his fault, period. >> He didn’t hit her. >> Judge Judy: End of discussion. >> She hit him. >> Judge Judy: Okay. >> She hit me. >> Judge Judy: Okay. I’d like to see the damage to the car. >> I also have a picture here that shows coming down the road where he was, and there is no stop sign. >> I’d like to see that. >> Judge Judy: She hit you? >> Yes. >> Judge Judy: You had a stop sign. >> I did, but my stop… >> So did she, and she told me that there was no stop sign there. >> Shh. >> Judge Judy: Ms. Hanley. >> I’ll come back with that. >> Judge Judy: Ms. Hanley. >> Yes, ma’am? >> Judge Judy: Sit down. >> I’ll come back with that.

  1. When she said he was coming out of the parking lot that had a restaurant and bar, he probably had a few drinks

  2. What was she doing in a 55+ community anyway? I don’t like her. Idiot should have been more cautious because golf carts is how older people get around in these communities. I bet she was dropping the dreaded grandchildren off to be watched by her parents.

  3. I was coming to work up a main road. The side roads had newly painted stop lines. Truck ran the line and smashed into the front of my car. His mom tried to say he stopped, then proceeded, but at the speed he was actually going while running the line, he set off my airbags and ripped my radiator in half. The car died where it landed against the curb. After I got my lawyer, the mom shut up about it being mutual fault and finally admitted her driving kid was an idiot.

  4. Just driving golf cart popping Viagra finishing off a po’ boy sandwich washing it down with scotch! Whats the problem?

  5. I feel bad, they just don't understand why the first stop sign makes no difference.

  6. The defendants are so delusional I feel so sad for anyone who has ever crossed their paths because they've obviously been doing the wrong thing their whole lives but insisting that they were right. Amazing people can make it to that age and still not take any accountability for their actions.

  7. His attitude is like “my foot was already on the speeder, What was I supposed to do???!” 🤦‍♀️

  8. Arguing with any old person is impossible because they think they have the rights to do anything they come out we fought in the War so what there’s other people who have fought in wars his wife is henpecked or the other way round they’ll kick off call the police tell a story that doesn’t make sense and the police will 9/10 will believe the old people unless they’re nuisance then they’ll arrest them

  9. It's like they're drunk except they're not. Are their facilities intact enough to be driving??

  10. I love when people say, "They came from nowhere." No they didn't. Listen to yourself. They were there. Whether you hit them or they hit you, they were there, so they didn't come from nowhere. Also, this stop sign logic they're trying to pull is downright silly. Everyone always has a stop sign at some point. And sometimes people blow those stop signs, it doesn't matter unless there's an accident there. Where the accident took place, the only person who had a stop sign, was the YOU. How hard is that????

  11. I’ve dealt with these Florida folks in their 55+ communities. Cruising around in their golf carts, throwing back mimosas, and driving however they want.
