Just an Average Golfer giving unbiased opinions on all things golf, product tests, Golf travel vlogs and golf news!

I’ve never seen such a lowkey launch of a major product line in the time that I’ve been reviewing golf clubs are the brands becoming bored with grandio marketing campaigns or is it a simple case of there is nothing much to shout about anymore I can’t understand why ping have been so quiet on the release of not one but two new iron offerings are you even aware that the g730 and the i530 have been released they are two very different irons each with a different purpose aimed at golfers requiring different attributes to help either play better or enjoy the game a little bit more and those two things can be very different the g730 is an allout game improvement iron and the i530 is a hollow bodied players iron real big noticeable difference um first the i530 felt really good i730 felt good as well but also there’s a huge difference in the actual weight of the head was the thing I noticed more than anything I’ve made a point of not collecting dry ball Data before I hit these so I’ve gone out on the course with no preconceived ideas so that I’m not led by what I think performance should look like two balls that just hit from the Fairway I’ve landed in identical positions and the first two balls I hit down the Fairway also landed in identical positions that’s not what I was expecting right before we go any further I mean like I’ve already said I’ve not heard a great deal about either of these two irons but who out there has maybe got these in the bag already or has got them on the list to try and uh either way let me know down that comment section below what you think of either of these two irons right let’s see if we can get a green again so the i530 is a hollow bodied iron with a forge face they’ve moved around the CG a little compared to the predecessor the i525 with a focus on ball speed forgiveness and launch a story that we hear time and time again the g730 is all out muscle and not my choice in terms of profile but I understand why these clubs might help people but still get baffled as to why they’re not weak or lofted to help help a little bit more with launch my findings are yes they travel a long way but the ball fright can be just a tad too flat and more help would be better focused on launch in my opinion the Retro Lofts make far more sense to me those two balls have landed right next to each other those two t-shots again which is the bit that surprised me so far I’m expecting that dry ball data would have said something very different in terms of distance and also Spin and so far what I’m seeing out on the course is the carry distance is the same the landing on greens and how quickly they stop so that could be termed a spin is also very very similar as well and the only thing I’m noticing is a slight difference in ball flight but other than that I probably couldn’t tell the two apart and it’ be interested to see what dry ball data has to tell us here’s some dry ball data which shows exactly what we would have expected the g730 goes a little bit further spins a little bit less and launches a little bit lower the opposite can obviously be said of that i530 but like I said no surprises for me in dry ball data and I’m much more interested in what these things do out on the golf course as ever with these reviews app app keep him short and sweet now I’ve included dry ball data um in for those who want it to be honest with you I’ve not even seen it yet cuz we’re going to do that test in later on this afternoon have it enough shots out here on the Fairway to get a basic understanding of what I think of these two irons and the first thing is I think they’re both exceptional and they both they’re different but the reasons you might buy one over the other are very personal so I’ll explain my thoughts I think that the 530 is a fantastic hollow body iron it’s softer feeling that of the than that of the g730 it’s obviously more compact it’s going to be about what suits your eye and what you want to hear cuz like I said it’s definitely a softer type of iron so it is definitely a more players iron I hope I’m not going to State the obvious here the g730 is the one that shocks me because in my opinion it’s a massive Leap Forward for the sound and feel on PING game improvement irons because overall I’ve been pretty critical of the way they sound and feel it would be a major offut for me I know not for everybody and that’s why this is very much about personal choices the obvious difference again is one is a lot bulkier than the other and for me like I said earlier the g730 also feels a lot heavier but again they’re going to be things that will appeal to one and not the other honestly I’m shocked at how much I like the g730 it gave me a lot of confidence at address that kind of weight that it has gave me a great encouragement to just kind of like take life easy and let the club do its work ball flight to me seem similar and I’ve already said in terms of how they stopped on greens didn’t seem that greatly different to me so I wouldn’t be concerned about the normal issues that are thrown up with game improvement ions about being low spin and all those other things I’ve only played two s irons I would obviously like to test the kind of lower and longer of the bag and I wish more companies would give that sort of access especially when you’re getting custom fit anyway that’s me done in a nutshell two fantastic irons from ping I just don’t know why they haven’t made a bigger deal about either of these two

  1. Well made gear. Always. Brought club fitting to the masses. Great wedges. Still play Eye 2 irons.

  2. I had a fitting in Gainsborough 1 week ago. Tried the I230 and I530 irons. I liked both but loved the I530 irons. They just let the ball fly, easy to hit with great results. Was pleasantly surprised by the noise and feel. I’m 56 mid handicap and currently play Wilson D9 forged (also very good irons) but gained 15yrds on my 7 iron, but kept peak height and decent angle so sorry Wilson they’re on order. 😊 PS enjoying the new style of content 👍🏻

  3. Got fit in the g730s 5-50°. First set of new irons, absolute rocket sticks. For higher swing speed players who are more consistent with the short end of the bag, I think these are perfect.

  4. its ridiculous , the pw of the 730 is sitting at 40 degress… mine is at 45….

They really shouldnt be allowed to do shit like that

  5. I believe you can buy the G730 with retro specs (weaker). That should answer your launch concern.

  6. Tried the 530i today fabulous most forgiving players distance iron I’ve tried and better than others I’ve tried .

  7. I play the g430s at the moment but really like the look of the i 530 more…..why did i have to watch your video…must..resist!

  8. Went to AG last week to try multiple different irons, i530 came out on top of about 10 different irons for me.

  9. I agree Andy. I'm not getting any younger! So a hollow bodied power bat is appealing. I'm a Ping man so i530 looks great ………. but there hasn't been the usual vids? I have I 220s.

Love the shorter club review format.

  10. I got fit into i530s last month..just got them other day..heading out to the course Saturday for 1st round with..looking forward hitting them

  11. I like the new format straight to the point. Too many people doing reviews of Club give a dissertation instead of the fax.

  12. Great video – short and sweet with an informative summary. That what I want to see. The shots you made were pretty awesome too.

  13. I tried the G730 irons but didn't like them. I hit the G430 irons with a different shaft and thinking about ordering the G430 irons. I'm 75 so a lighter shaft combined with the G430 irons seemed better for me.

  14. I’ve tried these i530’s, and several other Ping’s, I just don’t like the feel of Ping irons – in general. To be honest, I like the feel of my old Ping Eye 2’s better than modern Ping’s. I have a set of Callaway X Forged 21 CB’s, my gamers, and a set of Srixon Zee X 5 MKII, which are both great feeling clubs….to me. Great video, thanks for sharing. 🇨🇦

  15. I’ve got a new set of the G730’s and the ball jumps off of the face of the club. Just have to dial in some distances now.

  16. I’m enjoying your videos very much including the reviews and destinations – thank you! I play the i525 myself and love these clubs. My wife however has just received her G730 irons, in the High Launch and Retro spec, which you suggest make more sense. Even with her lower swing speed these are launching fabulously and provide great feel, sound and feedback. She absolutely loves them and has increased her enjoyment of the game.

  17. Two friends of mine recently went for a fitting. One went in wanting to get the AI Smoke irons and the other, who plays the i525, wanted to get the i530. The one who wanted the Callaway came out with tthe Ping i530 and the one that wanted the Ping i530 came out with the AI Smoke. They both love their clubs and, what I can see over the course of 3-4 rounds, they are both playing well. Great video. I like the clean and quick format. So nice that you are not speaking just to hear your own voice. Keep it up.

  18. I'm surprised that the data are so close. Normally, one would expect the players' club to be a bit shorter, especially on mishits. It sounds like Ping did a good job with the internal weighting on it.

  19. Maybe the brand of Ping is so strong in the market that they don’t have to do more right now. Other supplier are much more visible. 😊😊😊

  20. My brother has the 730s in the bag..personal opinion is they look🤢, sound 🤢 and feel 🤢 but they do the job so well…he'll be down from 25 to 18 in no time. Perfect irons for him. I like the look of the 530s..might go and hit them soon.

  21. Don’t those demos clubs without the silly notch out of the hosel look so much better – I know it sounds silly but that notch puts me off them

  22. For what you pay for with Ping irons, why not just find a forged alternative? At least you can have lie and loft angles bent locally.

  23. In my fitting I didn’t get to try this 530 and I think it’s because I needed v light shafts and it’s limiting. It was G430 for me which I hit better than the 730’s

  24. I love your short and sweet review format. It’s the best on YouTube for me. You are really smashing it this year!

  25. I530 Look really like my 101 from Takomo ( 1 year playing : Amazing!), but Ping(love this brand!)price is probably *2 !!!!…

  26. I went in 5 weeks ago for a fitting .. I hit about every new club made and it came down to the i530’s .. I just hit them better than anything else . Man I truly love them now tho .. the are really strong lofted tho .. I hit them a mile and really nice ball flights

  27. My own experience: The quieter the marketing, the better the products…meets the point very often. Brands launching „game changers“ every three to six months never attract my attention

  28. Excellent video. I love the different camera angles you incorporate into your videography. What tripod do you use?

  29. Yes, I too thought Ping had to up their game in their clubs. I do love Ping irons, I have a bag full of them. I sold them after getting fit
for clubs and came out with a new set of Callaway clubs. I tried them for the rest of the season, went back to the guy that I sold
my pings to & traded my Callaways for my old ping irons. I would never do that normally, but I learned my lesson, never mistrust your
own instinct. Thanks for the great video's, enjoy them very much.

  30. Ping offer free fittings everywhere if you like ping you buy ping simple isn’t it really.
Only ping club I’ve ever owned was a g15 driver absolute beast of a club.
I’ve hit loads over the years always thought they were good in general I’d mainly be hitting the i range but ultimately sound, feel and looks meant I chose other options.
I wouldnt of sacrificed outright performance for those things but I always managed to find similar performance elsewhere.
They are also in general lighter than what I am used to or potentially swing weighted to feel lighter than I am used to.
I’m still playing my Nike v pro combo’s with some heavy s300 in so everything feels lighter I guess.
I am ready for change but not totally sure where to go yet.
