This golf lesson is a must watch if you want to make ANY steps to reducing your handicap. I’ve honestly never hit the golf ball so well from these positions that every single golfer HATES! This golf lesson is crucial if you want to make any steps to reducing your handicap this summer and overcoming the most HATED shots in golf!

Different Lies & Slopes – Above Feet, Below Feet, Uphill & Downhill Lies are difficult to get right but it is so important to follow this routine and if you do, you will quickly notice a difference. Learning to play from different slopes on the golf course can be extremely difficult for the majority of golfers. Golf ranges are 100% flat, but golf courses are not. How to deal with awkward lies on the golf course can be a major source of frustration and can stop golfers improving their scores if

I actually find this a little bit crazy how little we practice ball above our feet ball below our feet downhill lies and Uphill lies all we really care about is when it’s on a perfectly flat L and I’m starting to think how often does that actually happen so today’s video we’re going to start by covering ball above our feet as you can see here I mean I mean look at that there it’s ridiculous then we have a look at ball below your feet downhill lies and finally finishing on an uphill lie so three points for each this is what you need to know for a ball above your feet so let’s just start off by saying when you see a ball above your feet if we draw a line straight towards Target on the ground right here you’ve got to anticipate that the ball is going to want to start further left than you think it’s going to and that’s going to have a bigger effect the more Loft you have so for example look at my bag here if I was to do this with six I I have in my hand here the slope would have less of effect than if I was to do something like with my 54 Dee my 50° because the more Loft you have in your hand the greater the effect of the slope and that might sound strange and simply it’s something called face plain tilt more Loft the more lightly the ball is wanting to start further and further left so everything we talk about here is the counteract that point number one let’s think about where we’re gripping this golf club I want you to feel as though you’re gripping a little bit further down towards that shaft and that’s just simply because I feel you’re going to have more control we’re more likely to find the middle of that club face so simply whatever Club you’ve got let’s grip closer down towards that steel next on our list we need to aim right okay so we can see the flag here and we had our line that we established earlier I’m going to aim right of this okay I’m also going to work a little bit closer I’m going to avoid standing like this I’m going to try and get as close as I can to that gold ball gripping down and aiming right now the next point I want you to take a lot from this I want you to think about this and think okay I’m not going to overhit this shot I want you to make what I call sort of 3/4 arm swings where we don’t feel our hands work any higher then shoulder height to shoulder height we’re going to understand that the ball is going to want to start further left it’s going to want to move it right to left curvature so everything we’ve done at add dress is helping us to counteract this naturally because the ball is above where we anticipate it to be our swing will work a bit more round but work with that as long as you swing within yourself you aim right you grip down you get a nice solid base you got everything you need in order to play this shot so I guess the final thing to do here is just hit the shot now look at this when I’m hitting this shot you can see that I’m swinging very much Within Myself other questions that I think you’re going to be asking is Alex how much do I aim to the right how do I know how much to aim to the right well the more this ball is above your feet the more it’s going to affect you and the more LOF you have in your hand the further the ball is going to want to start left so simply higher above your feet aim more right more LOF in your hand the relative shot that you’re about to hit aim further right but all this is that horrible thing in golf I hate to say it it’s feel it’s practicing these scenarios but watch this again have a look how smooth I swung at this and I really need you to do that okay let’s move on to now ball below your feet I really really right I really hate this one and I really just hate it for the simple fact that when this ball is significantly below your feet and actually just below your feet in general the gold ball wants to move with left to right curvature we’re more likely to thin it so it’s that horrible weak spinny fadey being h a slicy style shot now before we move on to exactly how to attack this shot and the three simple points that you need here is just a summary of exactly how you attack that ball above your feet so have a look we’ve got gripping down the golf club we’ve got aiming to the right and making those three4 swings that is a real real good summary that I just think okay as long as I’ve got that that’s all I need to do and for every single one of these lies we’re going to have those summaries so let’s now think about how we attack this so first thing I just said to you is that the ball wants to move with left to right curve so the first thing we have to do is once we’ve established our balls of Target line all the way to that flag we need to aim to the left and again this is a little bit of feel you’ll get used to this but the bigger the ball is below your feet the more we’re going to want to aim to the left I would also say have a think about taking one Club longer so if this was originally seven iron yardage have a think about taking a six iron now I’m going to say a word of caution here if this was 6 iron yardage would I go to five iron maybe maybe not and that honestly all depends on the slope so what I’m saying right here is if the ball is significantly below your feet maybe don’t think about going a club longer if we’re going like into hybrid three wood five wood maybe just take our punishment that’s my word of advice there but honestly as a general rule of thumb think about going a club longer so like I say this was 7 in I’m going to hit 6 ion Point number two whilst we’re aiming left we want to feel like we’re sitting down more into this shot I would also maybe think about gripping up slightly so we’re going to sit down wide a stance Bend those knees that really just feels like I’ve got a better position in this slope feels like I can match it I can stay over that Gul ball much better whereas here if I go normally what how my ball is like really below my club like I don’t think I can even make contact with it so aiming left sitting down in this shot now the final Point all you got to remember is that let the Cub work a bit steeper it’s going to feel you pick it up a little bit more it’s going to feel like it wants to work down into the slope if we’re round and round or more flatter like we were on the ball above our feet then we’re really going to find it hard to make contact so let’s do this make those three4 swings shoulder height to shoulder height and just feel you stay with the slope stay with the slope the body might feel a little bit less active look collaps move with left to right curve well actually just sort of holding that wind that’s battering off that right hand side but you see that I didn’t try and over hit that gol shot at all so here’s the summary on the right side of the screen here of exactly how you play the ball below your feet we’re going to want to think about aiming left taking one Club more with caution we’re going to want to sit more into the slope bending those knees getting more over the golf ball and realize that the swing is going to want to work a little steeper let’s now move on to ball on a downhill lie the downhill lie we’re going to firstly want to think about our Club selection now we’re around about six iron yardage but I’m going to go down one Club so if you are at six iron yardage we’re going to go down to seven if you were a eight iron yardage you would then go down to a nine so let me take my seven and this is just for the simple fact that if on a flat lie that would be let’s just say a random number our six iron has 26° right but as we go on a downhill slope this sort of turns into like five iron or four iron depending on the severity of the slope so what I want you to think about here is well actually even if I take one Club less I’m actually going to be hitting the club that I originally wanted to because my seven iron is now being turned into a six iron because I’m matching the slope and we’ll talk a little bit more about this setup but Point number one understand that the ball is going to want to travel further travel lower because that slope is forcing your Club to start re relatively with lower Loft I’m also once I’ve taken one Club less I’m going to grip down slightly not quite all the way down towards the steel but I’m going to grip down and simply the final two points are as easy as this but imagine right that’s where we start with 79 to begin with what I’m going to ask you to do now is move the ball towards the back of your stance and match your shoulders to the slope so really you can see how I’ve Del lofted that club significantly like so much much so making that adjustment with taking a shorter Club one makes a shot easier but also will help us get that ball to go the right distance for the specific shot you’re trying to hit so Point number two move the ball back and match your shoulders to the slope this is really going to encourage you to get the ball first and not catch the ground cuz simply the ball is higher than what we think in terms of rounding our Arc it’s going to be hit earlier than we think so moving that ball back allows us to guarantee ball contact First whereas normally if I didn’t make that compensation I would definitely be striking that ground first and that’s what I see a lot ground thin shots so ball back weight matching the slope of shoulders the final point is stay 3/4 length swings and swing down the slope Let The Loft and the strike get the ball in the air let the adjustment of taking a bit more Loft get the ball in the air don’t try and help it so you should be looking for a real shot just something around this look how low that’s come out that’s 79 look how low but look how I got my strike so here on the side of the screen is that summary of how I want you to attack a ball on a downhill slope so we’re going to take a little bit more Loft in our hands we’re also then going to grip down that’s all Point number one then we’re going to look at moving the ball back in our St matching our shoulders to the slope and really feeling at the final Point those 3/4 swings swinging down the slope don’t try and help the ball in the air okay the final scenario when that ball is on a big UPS slope this is exactly how you do it essentially it’s a little bit of the opposite of how you play a downhill for an uphill Li you’re going to want to take one more Club so usually if it was around a seven9 yardage let’s just say for example you would then go and take a six it from here you want to make sure that your shoulders and your way is matching the slope so we’re not fighting it really feel like we take a little bit of a wider stance a solid base and let our shoulders match the slope and the final Point swing up it the ball is going to launch higher it is going to go shorter but you’ve made that compensation of taking one Club more so if it’s usually a seven iron you would take a six ion and swing with the slope so you’ve counteracted the fact that the ball’s going to go shorter with taking an extra Club so nice and simple here is the summary make sure you take one Club more you match the slope with your shoulders and you swing up it with a nice stable base

  1. Hi Alex I used to hit a draw however now I hit a slice. I have looked at every single shallow video and I just can't do it. It's getting me very frustrated. Thanks

  2. Hi Alex, great advice, I have trouble hitting my drives low, I loses so much distance with my driver, any advice would really help

  3. a general rule of thumb is to do what you can to get your clubface the way it would be on a flat lie. these are great details for accomplishing it.

  4. Excellent job Alex in explaining how to hit from different type of lies. Each week I am probably presented with most of them and it was good to be reminded on how to hit each one. Well Done Alex!

  5. Alex simply great demo.

If I am allowed to add :

    # At any cost maintain the posture during execution. Simply the height between hip to ground. And the ball postion adjustments.

    # Otherwise, uphill- likely to be a chunk and skull on a down slope.

    # Down hill expect ball to roll more and vise versa.

    # Depending on height loss or gain grip down or up if you choose to use the same club.

    # Bottom line : no panic, just swing within yourself to keep the balance posture.

    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

  6. Thanks Alex. A simple reminder for above and below your feet. The direction and speed the ball would roll from the hill if it could, tells you the direction and degree it will travel in the air. Thx

  7. Interesting! I’m based in the Netherlands with usually very low slope rate courses. Earlier this year I was in New Zealand and was confronted with slope rates I never imagined possible (sometimes the green was not even in sight). Now I know why that was so difficult! Will have to store your lesson for the next time abroad.

  8. The summaries are the best thing you introduced into your videos, iv put them straight into a note book so I can view in seconds rather than rack my brain trying to remember info from hundreds of videos. Please continue to do these summaries.

  9. Hey man, great advice.

I think you would do well to adjust your audio levels down a bit then normalise/compress in post. There are a few bits where you get a bit of clipping in these videos and it detracts from what would otherwise be a great video.

  10. Thanks Alex, I live in the Alps, most of the golf courses are not flat anywhere except the tee boxes. In fact Les Gets ( a stunning course) fairways are ski slopes in the winter. ( The line on the 7th hole, where you can't see the flag, is the peak of Mont Blanc!) This lesson will be invaluable. Thanks
