[Music] [Applause] 16 nations from all corners of the globe eight days of competition now just two teams remain China are contesting their 14th Thomas Cup Final and are looking to regain the title and win the iconic trophy from for an 11th time 6 years after the last 14 time winners Indonesia are looking to extend their record as the most successful team in the history of this event and today they are contesting a third consecutive finals two teams the best of five matches the prize the Magnificent Thomas Cup trophy and the title of world men’s Team Champions welcome to the chain Dew high-tech Sports Center Stadium for finals day at the 33rd edition of the total energies bwf Thomas cup so for a seventh time in history of the Thomas cup just three years after the last China plays Indonesia in the final this is the draw from the quarterfinal knockout stage interestingly all four quarterfinal ties were won by the margin of 31 China beat the defending Champions India then Malaysia in the semi-final all also by a 3-1 margin Indonesia beat Korea then Chinese Taipei had beaten the number two seeds Denmark to reach the semifinal for the first time they won that semi-final without dropping a match so China have won the Thomas Cup on 10 previous occasions the last in 2018 in Bangkok their four singles players in the squad are all ranked in the top 20 including the gold and silver medalists of last year’s Asian Games Lei fun and XII and their three doubles pairs are all ranked in the top 11 including the current world number one sangu Kung and Wang Chang so an incredibly strong Squad in both singles and doubles [Music] [Applause] [Music] as I was saying Indonesia are the most successful team in the history of this competition having won the trophy an incredible 14 times the last just three years ago when the 2020 Edition was postponed until the Autumn of 2021 their team features the two all England men singles finalists from a months ago chrisy and ginty and two pairs who have also won the all England title Alan and aranto and fi and [Applause] molana so let’s look at the specifics of the 33rd Thomas Cup Final it’s the standard order of play which means we start with the first men’s singles the current world number two shiu Chi who’s won all five matches so far in his campaign up against the Olympic bronze medalist Anthony cuka ginting then we have the first men’s doubles and it’s the current world number ones against the former world number ones Liang Kang and Wang Chang against Alan and adanto then it’s the second men singles and it’s the current against the former Asian Games gold medalists Lei Fang for China up against Jonathan Christie who is undefeated in the campaign so far then the second men’s doubles and her Ting and renan Yu up against fiki and molana who have a better head to head record against their Chinese opponents then it could all come down to the last match the third men singles Lu bongju and Chico woo it’s one all in previous beeings wouldn’t it be a thriller if we were to go the full distance and witness that third men singles so to our first match on finals day China against Indonesia shii against Anthony sinuka giny I’m Jill Clark delighted to say that Ste Pon is sitting alongside me as indeed he’s been doing all week and steeve when we look at the head-to-heads for all five matchups it’s fascinating H it’s exactly like a final should be or really really exciting match up in front of us sing of the five matches scheduled on the head-to-head records to favor China to favor Indonesia and the fifth match is one all as far as the two players are concerned in their two previous meetings on paper this should be a wonderful final Anthony cuka ginting the 27y old Indonesian Olympic bronze medalist leading out his [Applause] team lost the all England final just over a month [Music] ago it’s two months ago now isn’t it it’s the beginning of March we’re now into May chii who’s had a wonderful campaign played in all five previous ties and has won his five match matches in fact this is his 15th match in Thomas cup of the previous 14 throughout the years and this is his Third campaign he’s won 13 of the 14 what an extraordinary record the only match he lost he retired injured at Match Point down this the 11th beating between these two players as you can see and shui has won eight of the previous 10 service so shiuchi very quickly stating that he wanted to choose the far end of the Court having won the toss of the coin and he certainly did that yesterday in the semifinal stage against Le J won a tough opening game and then red away with the second now the reason the players are wanting to choose ends is because we’ve talked about a drift for the last eight days of competition the shuttle flying a little faster coming towards us as we’re looking at board at the moment shui 28 years of age now are born in Nong in jangu Province enjoying his 68th week in total as world number two his career high actually his fourth spell his third Thomas cup campaign and as I was telling you a remarkable record also a remarkable record this year in the fact that he has reached three finals won two titles in India and the French Open now there that confirms what I was telling you Saturday played against Australia then on Sunday against Canada where he beat Brian Yang he needed three games to beat Jong HW Jin in the group decider on Tuesday then in the quarterfinal on Thursday he beat pranoy coming from a game down and yesterday in the semifinal as I was telling you he beat Le 2119 [Music] 215 so this is a fifth Thomas cup campaign for Anthony sinuka ginting 27 years of age born in he just west of bangong in West jaava he too has been as high as number two on the world ranking but has dropped down to number seven ready to play he like his opponent has played all five matches in the campaign so far his only loss came in the group to cider against India which Indonesia won 4-1 he was the only player to lose when he lost to prenoy in three games needed three games to beat J hin in the quarterfinal and in the semi-final disposed of choen Chen 218 2119 CH Chen who had a surprise win quar below the Olympic champion Victor axelson so yob sber of Demar is our umpire for this one and David Evans England the service [Music] judge ladies and gentlemen on my right Indonesia represented by Anthony sinuka King and on my left China represented by shiu [Applause] Indonesia to serve L play so the 33rd edition of the Thomas Cup Final gets underway well I know it’s the very first Ry Ste about that looked like a nervous shot from Anthony giny like a very nervous [Applause] shot well I think they’re both nervous that would be understandable wouldn’t [Music] it Char raner on the left and Sun Jun on the right both former World men singles Champions on the coaching bench for China what that idiot that’s great control fori 2 1 he want y the Indonesian men’s singles coach missed it Ste do you have an inkling as to what sort of tactics are going to be employed today um I think shui will um perhaps start out here a little bit more aggressive than normally but otherwise I think he will be U happy to play um longer rallies I don’t think Anthony ginting will be U so Happ to play longer rallies but I think he should I think he should go against what the the feeling is and be patient maybe um suffer but suffer in silence and keeper faad that says I’m here to play and I’m going to he I’m going to give absolutely everything um we saw when he um lost to prano and even more so when he lost the all England final that he was in fact quite erpr and he needs to cut down on that but it’s difficult because at the same time he also needs to avoid to play too much from a defensive um perspective where see caning super quick on his feet in the offense but not uh the same speed and smooth defense a super shot I think we especially notice errors on the net play yeah and especially after long rallies so it’s interesting to me that you’re saying that he should be prepared to play long rallies it seemed to me that when he lostoi it was most of the long rallies that he was losing yeah exactly so it’s about being more patient more willing to suffer in those long rallies and I think also that the playing conditions are slower here today I still feel it was cold this morning I still feel this quite cold in the arena we’ve seen playing conditions throughout the week where it’s almost been impossible to play the backline pretty much from both sides but that’s a super shot especially at the moment for Shu interesting shangi way was on the front line of the supporters bench there yeah sorry Steen I interrupted that it’s just the first game here presumably XII has a harder time finding the back [Music] Liney G yes now i’ mentioned the length way stretch which you’ve just eluded to as well but there’s also a sideways drift [Applause] yeah and and that error that he made there uh ginting I don’t mind that as much that was a forced error that one it’s more worrying for this long now just to explain the sideways drift a little bit more as we all look down on the rallies and we look down exactly the same as you the sideways Drift from left to right [Applause] just [Music] right [Applause] 74 four straight points for sh [Applause] [Music] good defense Williams [Music] so favorite attacking shot from the backand side the Cross Court smash brilliantly placed there the that’s what you call out maneuvering your [Applause] [Music] [Music] opponents he [Music] Junior Champion played in the early stages yeah that’s good follow up from guiny 5 8 [Applause] lovely Pati attack doesn’t matter if it takes four shots if they’re relatively um simple much better than risking it all on the [Music] followup nice that’s obviously something the coaches have talked to him about given the reaction of jman up that’s important if he can intercept those flat lifts uh shui ones that could put him under pressure in the far side of the Court that’s very ni 6 n [Applause] [Music] 7 9 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] he [Applause] [Music] oh good net exchange brilliant it’s good run just [Applause] SW I sense that ginsing needed to win that rally in order to um sort of challenge xui mentally they go in and play shii you have this feeling that um right now here in 2024 he’s just getting everything back 35 shots was that rally and uh it’s also shown that he’s dangerous when he goes on the [Applause] attack [Music] 107 he’s got to find something the way I see it mentally deep inside Anthony kining to get out on top on these long rallies [Applause] super block and ginting was nowhere near it four point Advantage for China and she she the mid game interval of the opening game Power for [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] yeah [Applause] okay [Music] 11 so play resume after the mid game interval oh that was getting wide another error on an OT from Anthony [Music] [Music] [Applause] ginty is it a technique problem or is it all about confidence Ste yeah I think it’s about confidence but also about um left strategy awareness 8 12 are you suggesting that he shouldn’t have tried to play back to the net on that one that he made the error on there yeah I think it’s too risky brilliant finds the line sh [Music] Che 13 I’m guessing that goes down as another unfor eror yeah it does and uh trying to keep a little bit track of it and so far ginsing has made Seven unforced arist that’s half of his opponent’s points and the same goes for shui the problem is ging’s only got eight points so he’s only made four errors [Music] that’s a a great cross there she ACH considering he was hitting with the drift lengthways and sideways wonderful control [Music] [Applause] 9 [Music] [Applause] 15 I think it’s got something to do with how you perceive um your matchup with your opponent in terms of skills I think inting thinks that xiu is the better rally player that his own defense is dropping w bracket arm outstretched taking the shuttle as early as possible watch this look at that and gets the neck [Applause] CAU nice 10 16 [Music] [Applause] good play by ginting small deceptions but really nice trajectories and those lifts from side to side if he can hit the right trajectory then he’s got some options there [Applause] you didn’t have a lot of choices there Shu on the smash straight down the line that was terrific [Music] 17 11 well we thought in the semi-final against chiu chi in Malaysia against DC ja chii was outstanding I think he’s carried that for forward to this final yes [Music] thing is as a top player come to B all the time we’ve seen G with this very nice deception on the front court that has helped him last couple of years but other players are picking up on it and doing the same thing [Music] he’s constructing the rallies so [Music] well G G oh look at that atic movement what a joy to watch [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 12 18 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] w oh need to played that long the back [Applause] line right now the errors are equal eight errors to each player that Fuji is creating more winners his opponent at the moment so one of the problems for guiny is that he isn’t really scoring a lot himself oh what a good smash body smash 14 [Music] [Applause] 18 well all of a sudden it’s believable again isn’t it it is only a fourpoint [Music] deficit got to get on the attack and he’s got to have a lot of variation in his attack lot of patience nice [Music] 15 a big deception on that as well shuchi fell for [Applause] it brilliant well you said he needed to be scoring more points two outright winners in the last two rallies that’s perfect from an Indonesian perspective [Music] that should mean that shiuchi is adjusting his game trying to uh play a little bit sharper stay in control of the rallies [Applause] [Applause] that was an important rally a certain Mr lindan and that’s why the Roar from the fans he was in Vision one of the legends of the sport Clin [Music] down oh good net shot on me return of serve no and another one what a lift for fantastic and a [Applause] again go [Music] long and the home fans celebrate because there’s four opportunities for shii to close out this opening game [Applause] 2016 thank you and 108 in unforced areas so exactly 50% of each player’s points come from the opponent’s erors I say and forced that’s not entirely true because they’re psychologically forced many of them yes and this is why it’s so difficult to keep statistics because it’s all subjective yeah is it forced or unforced game point number one for China well saved by giny over 17 20 [Applause] oh that’s loose brilliant what a super shot crosscourt net shot to close out the opening game 21 2117 confirms the Umpire 25 minutes and she II and China One game to the good in the first many for for [Music] [Applause] [Music] second game l so shiu Chi won game to the good in the first match of the Thomas Cup [Music] Final strings are gone in the racket of vley giny [Music] yeah he’s already gone the strength no wonder he made a mistake [Applause] oh that’s nice that is Absol rightful that’s one of the things that are going to be interesting to see here now because ginsing is one of the very best players in the world playing with the drift and it doesn’t seem like it’s that severe today so um he’s got some chances of controlling [Applause] [Music] It 2 [Music] [Applause] 1 you simply can’t to C erors like that gting got to maintain the intensity oh that’s a [Music] beautiful well in the semi-final yesterday shuu against thec sh once again shiu Chi chose ends after the toss of the coin and chose to start the far side of the Court oh he’s done so in um all four matches we four or five Chinese matches but he did against John hugin he did against prenoy [Applause] [Music] Pat and lindan two of the greats watching the greatest men team competition in the sport [Music] of 6 1 well this is awfully reminiscent of the semi-final yesterday isn’t it as far as shui is [Music] conscent G again I think 7 1 maybe not [Music] he really is playing extremely well shiuchi [Applause] and by your calculations we’ll soon take over as world number one possibly it depends on on the results in the upcoming World Tour tournaments in Southeast [Music] Asia but he’s getting very close to Victor axelon with the number of ranking points [Music] yeah missed it9 1 [Music] [Music] another net shot error from gy well this is extremely concerning if you’re an Indonesian fan SW and to the mid game interval with an 111 lead shiu chi in China [Music] seconds 20 seconds [Music] yeah physical and metaphoric tap on the [Music] shoulder [Music] 111 it’s not so fun yeah standing in there at the moment it is if you she cheap and certainly not forting look how shui is weathering the attempted increase of [Applause] [Music] pace well you made the point in the opening gate that Anthony ginting was struggling to hit winners and I think one of the problems as far as the Indonesian is concerned is because when he gets the opportunity because he must be aware he hasn’t hit many winners he’s desperately trying to make it extra special and in trying to do so he’s making an error like that yeah I think the problem um in this match or or say in general is that ging’s uh game plan is built on his speed and uh his ability to through his speed um gain advantages and the thing is that if sh he was a little bit um slower then it would work but shui is fast enough so that his sort of uh game is built more around being accurate and being able to build it shot by shot patiently increasing the initiative also neutralizing if opponents are attacking him and that’s just much more efficient plus he’s got uh a better reach than than ginty obviously tall up T kak looking a little despondent at the moment T Foria the 2004 Olympic champion 2005 world no which world championship did he win 2005 in um Anaheim that’s right beting L Dan in the final EXC yeah he’s good he’s good sh 15 only last three games this year and one of them was where he was simply uh exhausted in all England um retiring after the first game against Jonathan Christie three matches he’s lost yeah he’s lost three one of them was that where he retired where he said he was um yeah he was a spent Force there was nothing left coming from a win in [Music] Paris 2 15 [Applause] [Applause] [Music] yeah well this quite frankly at the moment is a Master Class by this man 16 [Applause] fantastic defense and then plays the crossb winning smash 17 it’s extraordinary having been under such pressure on the defense not next shot he hits as a winner and he’s positioning himself as um the favorite for the Olympic title in my opinion in Paris [Applause] well it was a nice idea and a rare error in the second game from sh7 and surely it’s really just a qu question of this man making the score line a little more respectable yeah yeah missed it turn overover 18 3 whyde [Music] this really is an extraordinary performance by shim G yeah that’s nice to little to late as far as hinting is [Music] concerned oh a moment of magic Roman C fast reactions look at that [Music] [Applause] unsighted by the line judge so the Umpire is asking for the instant review system to adjudicate for him yeah good no it’s Match Point [Music] opportunities a whole h most of them for the current world number two this man shui point [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] five a lucky neck good 6 20 and on his second time of asking sh Chi gets China off to the perfect start in the Thomas Cup Final my goodness he’s been impressive over the last couple of days 2117 [Music] 216 43 minutes for the victory but it’s not just the victory it’s the manner in which he won the opening men singles of this final we always say steam that the Opening match tends to set the tone for the rest of the tie and it’s as I say it’s not just the win he absolutely destroyed ginting in that second game totally so he sent and W well on their way where while it’s Top Road forant to travel now yes the first men’s doubles the next match on courts because leang and Wang have won the last wi [Music] meetings well probably the best form I think I’ve ever seen chi in yeah there’s the final rally [Applause] [Music] she [Applause] Delight his entire campaign all six ties he played first many singles and he’s won all six matches talk about leading from the front confirmation of that score line at 217 216 in 43 minutes so China W love up in the final next up is the first men’s doubles the current world number ones against the former world number ones young way K and one CH up against Al and aranto [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] welcome back to CH D and I can tell you that we’ve had wonderful crowds for the entire nine days they love their bton here in China we love the Chinese fans too passionately supporting their players well up next with China leading this final one love after shiu Chi victory over ginting we turn our attention to the first men’s doubles and leang Kang and Wang Chang up against p alfan and Muhammed Oran aranto [Music] this is obviously crucial as seen as far as Indonesia concerned because it would be a fairly dire situation if Indonesia were too love down in the tie after the first two matches yeah there would still be a chance but it would be a really really [Music] tough situation well I can tell you that never has a team won from love two down in the Thomas Cup finals since we had the best of five format was always a first Ste but they’re not too locked down yet Alan and aranto haven’t been world number ones and aren’t current all England champions for no good [Music] reason in fact they won the last two all England championships bronze medalists at the World Championships first of all in 2019 in Basel and then two years ago in [Applause] Tokyo a huge Roar for the current world number ones the youngway and W Chang it is a first Thomas c campaign a second for his partner [Music] well they don’t necessarily come into this with full confidence because they lost yesterday to Aon charar and soik in the semifinal against Malaysia but as you can see this is a seventh meeting between these two pairs and as I told you earlier langang Kang and Wang Chang have won the last three the last time was in the quarterfinal of the Bonton asj championships three games as you saw 217 in the deciding which side that side a good match so the players will need to move their kit Banks to the other end of the court before the warm- up period [Music] begins what a responsibility for alen and a ladies and gent the young one Wen he is 23 years of age from one Province and he’s a very colorful character as you can see 176 is 5’9 and a half and they are enjoying their 15th week in total as world number ones Wang Chang played in the Thomas cup campaign in Aus in denar in 2021 playing with his former partner DC xan they won a silver medal China at that event he’s the taller of the two 180 is 5’1 he’s going to turn 23 in 2 days time and looking at their results will they have played all five previous matches they’ve lost twice they lost against the Koreans the reigning world champions Kang and Su that was on Tuesday they lost in three games despite being 11 up in the deciding game at the change of ends then they lost against Malaysia yesterday as I was telling you a moment ago against Aon charar and so we e having won the opening game and they then lost 2117 in the deci so to the Indonesians and for alen turned 29 at the beginning of March from bang in West Jaa currently number seven on the world ranking but it’s spend 41 consecutive weeks as world number [Music] ones his father mamed nanto is a year younger at the age of 28 from the J jakata Province and their only title this year their second consecutive all England Championship looking at their results well they had a surprised loss on Monday against Thailand and then uh they were not selected for the next match and not selected as a pair in the quarterfinal alfen played with danii Martin and then in the semi-final yesterday they beat the Olympic Champions leeyang and Wan Lin coming from a game down so B van horc of Belgium is our umpire for this one and Stan Van all France service judge ladies and gentlemen of my right Indonesia represented by fajar Alan and muhamed ran AR and on my left China represented byang Kung Wang CH China toer W Chang to Mohamed ranto so the second match of the Thomas Cup Final interesting scene that the Chinese pair were able to choose the far end of the court I don’t think that they actually won the toss of the coin no the Indonesians won the coin toss and elected to receive yeah that’s what I thought now they started that far end in yesterday’s semifinal against Malaysia and they absolutely blasted the opening game against Aaron CH and S the warmer world champions and then seem to go off the boil I don’t know whether they got complacent what was your take on it yeah but the service situation always super important in men stles and with the playing conditions we’ve had previous days then exactly that tumble serve we saw from Le K works much better From The Far Side of the court and um I think that became decisive yesterday where Aaron Shar who also so the tumble serve he took over the match together with the from then on so I was a little bit surprised that they chose to start on the far end um Wang [Applause] [Music] and but who knows that the playing conditions seems slower today so maybe it will work on the near side as well we’ll get a view on that in the second game yeah inside the line there came off the frame of the racket we noticed in some of the earlier matches that aranto was really struggling with his [Applause] serve it’s a very good from Alan I had that as a major uh issue going into this final here um I was even in doubt whether he was going to be selected or the Indonesians would go with um figin molana in the first and the scratch pair of Alan and Martina in the second but it doesn’t seem like as fast playing conditions today as previously and that should help um the service from ad because there’s not so much pressure on winning the servation 6 2 it’s a great start by the [Music] [Applause] [Music] Indonesians super great CH he really is lethal from the front of the court [Applause] 36 excellent return by Young [Applause] over 73 [Music] [Applause] [Applause] lovely Final Smash from Le threaded down the line here it comes look at that just inside the sideline perfect placement [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] wide nice idea fando yeah I love the Cross Match from adant there I was just thinking when dang is attacking is almost always straight so the opponent should be able to pack a little bit when trying to defend but very very powerful smash from the Chinese apart from that smash he hasn’t started that well [Applause] [Music] Young no he was on far at the start of yesterday’s semi-final wasn’t he it’s not how you start it’s how you [Applause] finish [Music] 10 one one L [Applause] oh hit what an interception from one CH [Music] 10 nice perfect placement slightly across the body towards the right hip of Alf and W Chung is much more likely to go across in his smashes because that um invites for the rotational play and then the Chinese can get the preferred formation [Applause] well the Indonesians I think have to keep the shutle away from one Chan when he’s at front of the court he reads the game so well to the mid game interval Indonesia in the form of Alan and aranto with a fourpoint advantage [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] you can always tell when it’s a big match can’t you steam because head coach J Jun gets it involved and is behind the court on the coach’s bench he looked a little bit um hesitant ever since he played that cross directly into the raged of Wang Chang and W Chang played it back directly in the nose of aranto good fck it’s come long 11 the last six points for young and [Applause] [Applause] one make that six of the last seven point I think that was some one of the things that the Chinese talked about you can see here Adano his midcourt area in the left hand side and they know the Chinese that alfan is looking to play the front Court cover the front court so that’s where they used the long cross and found the Gap behind [Applause] Alan [Applause] no Ser over 12 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 10 s sah from Kar Al [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] s oh that was a brilliant tle serve there he is she way on the front row cheering on his teammates [Applause] he’s been totally off the ball since he played that [Music] shot the attempted flat lift 13 nine of the last 11 points he’s got to find his game quickly 13 Smiles that one 14 [Music] 13 glad I’m not sitting next to those Sports on they very very loud it makes for a good atmosphere though doesn’t it okay [Applause] that’s a magnificent interception that was draged down from 2 and 1 half to 3 m from W Chong thank you and look at the angle he created well I suppose if you’re bringing it down from that height you can create those sort of angles 14 or open [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] game 15 14 that’s a missed opportunity from r an have been a clever half smash from alen over Mak some ends in the next [Applause] [Music] [Music] 16 [Music] 15 yeah one ch is much more thoughtful about exactly where he’s placing the shuttle of the two Chinese players his partner there’s a very big smash doesn’t always think as clearly about the Open Spaces over or challenge Here China challenges up well that’s a little rash even the ire could cruly believe that they were challenging no I think we were sort of like supporting my partner challenge miles out sence unsuccessful One Challenge remaining Serv is over 60 hitting with the drift that was ambitious challenge oh 17 [Applause] [Applause] 16 fantastic interception from y Kong 17 so quickly moving [Music] sideways just enough Pace on that return of ser to make it awward well each and every point at this stage of a game so precious [Music] yeah well [Music] judged point for point at the moment [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh clever clever clever from one [Music] Chan 19 18 [Music] that’s an early celebration there two points away from the opening [Music] [Applause] gate absolutely read that one Chun two Gain points [Applause] [Music] brilliant opening game 2118 in favor of leang K and one Chan for China 31 18 well they didn’t start the best did they 410 down but as I said earlier it’s not how you start it’s how you finish [Music] for foree spe [Music] [Applause] [Music] well interesting to me that the Indonesian coaches used all of their a lot in time speak to their the Chinese coaches left in good time before the start of this second game oh goodness Ser his fault called save over one chunk One [Music] [Applause] Love Now One changer seems to be on the front put most of the time on the front Court he’s been that since the um interval in the first game forcing Alan onto his back foot just backing off from the net slightly nice smash Chu Chinese coach calling for much higher lifts so the shuttle drops down [Applause] vertically 3 [Music] 1 yeah that was better because Al was moving forward backing off from the [Applause] [Music] net yeah he touched it he touched it he touched it he touch sorry yeah sorry yeah over good iting because the service judge just indicating to the Umpire helping out and saying yes touched the player touched his racket and he’s helped early on in the tournament Stan V i’ like to see that that’s very goody way I think Al was hoping to get a move forward but aranto wasn’t moving out oh he he’s blocking so uh Alan can’t really move forward he’s standing in the right hand uh field from an Indonesian perspective he should cover more cross andite the rotation that’s good play by the over 5 3 they’re getting a little bit more B bite in their attack in the flat game here in the second game Aran [Music] aranto oh that’s good that’s a great serve 6 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 4 [Music] six you’ve been flicking Alan quite a lot yeah clever get him away from the net yeah oh brilliant lovely block from one chant and he immediately followed forward [Applause] 5 foram block into the open space I said that he manages to find the gaps he thinks about where he’s placing the shuttle [Applause] [Music] nice great flock in front of Adan back level [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] 7 [Applause] six oh he’s over done that that looked to me like a desperation sh Ste I thinker Al is feeling that he needs to do a lot at the moment and I think aranu he needs to raise his [Applause] game 87 [Music] [Applause] quickly [Applause] [Music] [Applause] placement that time fromang [Music] [Applause] count thank you [Applause] [Music] oh my goodness that called over no is ridiculous how on Earth did it do that it’s that the picture aan look at that look at that aan is Consulting with the coaches what he should do being flicked all the time now they’re gaining Advantage the Chinese Pair by flipping both of their opponents I just have to say this was not possible yesterday no it was simply to fast playing conditions yesterday you wouldn’t be able to flick and get that [Music] Advantage 9 10 well we certainly noticed cooler conditions when we arrived here this morning for the Uber Cup Final and also this evening um again having quite a bit of um extra close on here in the commentary box oh yeah doesn’t look as comfortable as his part in the front of the cour I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it’s a weak area for leang way K but he just doesn’t seem to have see natural ability as his partner on the so there’s just one point in it at the m game interal as indeed it was the case in the opening game but in contrast to the opening game the onepoint advantage here in the second is with the Chinese pair [Music] 20 seconds 20 seconds thank you f [Music] [Music] [Music] 111 so 1110 in the second game having already won the first Chine up on the form ofan way and one [Applause] chall that’s a good Rally from Alan andant [Music] 114 Beau [Music] defense dongas rally 19 shots that’s extraordinary is indictive of winds doubles nowadays short rallies there’s so much focus on the first three shots of the rally and whichever pair can get the advantage then their attacking play tends to be the deciding factor very few long rallies Tak [Music] [Applause] [Music] 131 yeah CH capabilities that the the court once again on display thir [Music] [Applause] [Music] Bo what a defensive shot from F Al Chico Wyo who’s scheduled to play the fifth match of the tie if will get that far for see these knockout stages we don’t play any matches tie is [Music] [Applause] decided he was specifically told not to go off court and that’s good umpiring yes I like that I just would like to see consistency because there’s way too many umpires that sort of Le it at the verbal warning 16 13 [Applause] didn’t move his feet at all hard Anto what chanto here literally static as he tried to play that offensive shot never got his feet into [Music] position hey [Applause] [Music] 15 [Music] 16 two flat pushes from wangan one across courts one [Applause] [Music] straight era tle Ser is short of the mark and it still doesn’t work as good as from the other side the TBL serve he’s flicked lot adanto he’s flicking almost entirely we said earlier that we thought he’d lost confidence in his low serve in one of his earlier [Applause] matches three-point advantage and three points away Indonesia from forcing a third and deciding game [Music] 16 [Applause] 18 [Music] fantastic 13 two points away taking this second [Music] game one point away four game point opportunities for Indonesia to level this first pins doubles at one game a piece [Applause] [Applause] [Music] mistake 17 [Music] [Applause] one game all 217 the response from the Indonesians India 217 one game over [Music] well we will be treated to a third and deciding game and how important could this third game be for the outcome of the whole time fore [Applause] seconds on [Music] [Applause] [Applause] so one game all in this first men’s [Music] doubles as usual three games yes sixth consecutive time they’ve these two pairs have played each other it’s on to a [Applause] deciding there only the first encounter that was two straight [Music] games I’m wondering whether perhaps alant has been um uh throughout the tournament the two matches where he weren’t selected we know that there’s been some illness in the Indonesian Camp amongst others who the FI ofanto first down with [Applause] flu 2 [Music] 1 it’s [Music] okay sport psychology coming in here Chinese pair wanted to change the shutle the Indonesians said no C gentlemen you both have to be ready quicker okay yeah he just lost his balance because he was waiting so long he was alert to that yeah and then that’s um it’s a problem for Indonesia isn’t it if all ardianto has the confidence to do is to play a flick surve thing is the Chinese they played on it w CH put a hand in the air said I’m not ready and then there’s a high chance that the next one’s going to be a flicker over 3 2 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] good play this could be the longest run of the mat so far it’s got to be near 19 shots isn’t it two well [Music] judged yeah it was the longest running 26 shots [Applause] [Applause] [Music] 3 4 [Applause] [Applause] [Music] looking a little worried Jung on the coach’s chair he is isn’t he that came off the frame of the Racket and that’s loose couldn’t put it away it was a huge yeah cross cour on the Quick Serve but yet again another Quick [Music] Serve we rarely see one of the men’s doubles players losing all confidence on low serve no because that’s a big big problem if you do given the importance of the server situation nice [Applause] interception what a fabulous Rally from the Indonesians over 6 [Music] [Applause] 4 yeah R is getting longer and longer [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] well we saw in the semi-final yesterday Ste it’s Chinese seem to lose their way a little bit against Aaron Char and so and I sort of get the sense again that they’re losing their way rather than having a specific plan yeah that’s true they haven’t they haven’t delivered in this tournament as what number [Music] one face tough of position but it’s like uh when when the game is rolling they are really really strong but on the other hand when it’s not then the low level is a little bit too [Applause] [Applause] low good Ry come on come on good shot oh he’s missed it he’s missed [Music] it that could be [Music] costly that’s a big mistake we saw that flat drive he played into the record of w Chang in the first game that um took away part of The Confidence from Aran from an Indonesian perspective you can’t thought to do the same [Music] again that’s a nice block CH sway the body one way hit the shutle the other [Applause] hey [Music] [Applause] three straight points and now there’s only one point in [Music] it see alang covering behind ariant he knows that it’s going to go back in the direction where he is thank you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] L what yeah left and the fourpoint deficit has been closed [Music] [Applause] [Applause] hey well the Indonesians needed to stop that run might have been four straight points prior to that for the Chinese pair [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] It’s Not So Strong by One chunk there looks like he’s anticipating a low serve from aranto very soon but uh played on the flicker there that’s that’s not too good just why [Music] I wonder will all games be 10 11 game interval we had one match the other day didn’t we seen that all three games were 116 he [Applause] it’s not to be though in this deciding game there’s a two-point Advantage for Indonesia at the change of ends here in the deciding [Music] game [Music] fore thank you [Music] well I think an awful lot of this Ste is going to come down to nerves I think so too 11 at the moment I think Alan is the player with most confidence on the court that’s a great interception one [Music] 12 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 11 back was standing there but that that’s where the battle is between Wang Chang andan in the front [Applause] court now you mentioned that before with the uh service problem still and I don’t know if I was precise enough in my answer my idea is that if you can’t serve well in men’s doubles then you simply very rarely in quarterfinal semi-final stage because it’s so important so you just drop in level that that was what I meant back then I don’t know if I was specific enough and and that I mean imagine if if adanto could have served a reasonably good low serve they would have been absolutely uh dominant 131 on the other hand it’s winning in these situations here if the Indonesians Prevail that could boost the confidence onwards in the career for adanto [Applause] there’s no TR thir [Music] [Applause] [Music] back level one game more 13 more [Music] 13 who’s got the nerve [Applause] super shot from Al 14 13 first of all the little block then look at this angle that’s delightful I haven’t really paid enough attention because I haven’t a good idea about what happened to the flick serves to Alan he had enormous problems with them at some point so now they’re serving low serves at him I I’m not sure how he um he solved that problem how the Indonesian play solved that problem he’s much more dangerous when he’s receiving the lerve this error on the third shot from aranto after a rare no serve 14 all [Applause] yeah great play lovely play 15 14 yes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good return of ser oh my goodness in decision fastic Touch 16 14 well look how Wang Chang he’s thinking about leaving it wasn’t enough pressure on his downward shot and as you say Steen I mean that was wonderful touch and wonderful Vision by this man alen yeah it’s a fantastic match because the two PS they almost mirror images of each other constructed in the same way [Applause] thank you super front Court player super back court player in each [Applause] pair 156 oh that’s good defense how on Earth did the Chinese pair win that rally that’s the sort of Rally from a dire situation there turning it around that could change the momentum of this match one game all six all and the match clock about to take over the hour [Applause] mark no haven’t seen a drive sh from Young Kong we know he has a good one [Applause] [Applause] Bo they’ve left it and it’s landed in what drama what excitement 1 looks like they’ve saved the best rallies for last I’m not complaining about that no this is fantastic not only a great match but it’s so important for the overall tie this Thomas Cup Final good flick s fantastic play and for the first time since they LED One Love in the deciding game the Chinese pair have the lead in this decider it’s a brilliant decision by long chan because you normally think okay aranto is not the preferred front Court player so we serve low to him all the time and then when you really need it you put in a flicker that’s just brilliant uh all tactical work by the Chinese [Music] [Applause] yeah good uh think says janun that was good thought process from Wan Chan no doubt about it a two-point advantage and two points away from giving China a two love lead in the Thomas clup [Applause] final match point opportunities on a run of four straight points Point 17 three [Applause] opportunities to give China a two love lead in this Thomas C final oh you missed it called in well they’re challenging Jang Jun was raising his arm as if to indicate to his players challenge they wanted to challenge anyway [Applause] here we go it’s wrong China win the first men’s doubles on a run of five straight points 2117 in the deciding game in a thrilling match against alfield and aranto a wow Max W by china1 18 17 21 21 17 an hour and 3 minutes so fascinating and pulsating badmington [Music] [Applause] and it means that China take a two love lead in the 2024 Thomas Cup Final they only need one more of the remaining three matches but of course once a team has won three matches any remaining matches are not contested J Jun I don’t think I’ve seen him jump so high since he won the Olympic goal for a second time [Applause] magnificence confirmation of the score 218 1721 2117 in the deciding game in an hour and it’s been rounded up to 4 minutes well next up is the second men’s singles the current and the former Asian Games gold medalist Lei Fang for China and a must-win situation for Jonathan Christie [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to Chang Du in this wonderful facility the changdu Hightech Sports Center Stadium it’s been our home for the last n n days what babington we’ve witnessed drama and excitement the best players on the planet all gathered here 9 days ago y Cup Final earlier today won by China and China need only one more match in the Thomas Cup Final to hold both trophies at the same time they haven’t managed to do that for 12 years leang is up against Jonathan Christie and obviously this is a must-win situation for Christie he was in this situation two years ago in Bangkok in the final against India Indonesia were too love down and he had to go on to court against kadambi Shri and sadly for Christie he lost that match and India won the Thomas cup title for a very first time so the court officials come on to cour Ste uh it’s a very tough situation isn’t it for a player coming on uh to try and save their team it’s absolutely must win for Christie it is but um the two Dan vitting H did it in 2016 anas antonson took a win against um Chinese taipe and both of them said they they didn’t really think about it because there was there was no turning back now it was all or nothing so um it was just about getting on with it I don’t know if everybody thinks that way but um you can take courage in the fact that he’s got a head-to-head lead against Le men’s [Music] singles let’s welcome Jonathan Christie Jonathan Christie who won the Asian Games gold medal on home soil in [Music] 2018 won the all England title a couple of months ago beating his teammate Anthony giny in the [Music] [Applause] final firstman singles winner from Indonesia for 30 years so we know he’s in good [Music] [Applause] form Le she fank the current Asian Games champion won his gold medal in hjo last year beating shui in the final well as Steam was alluding to a moment ago Jonathan Christie has the advantage on the head-to-head record they played six previous matches Jonathan Christie has won five of them including the last which was the recent final of the Bonton Asia championships ining India black or red what do you choose red black for you red your choice this end on my left and chrisy Jonathan you chooses ends having run the toss of the [Music] coin well Jonathan Christie has won all of his matches so far whereas this man Le Shang lost in the quarterfinal to Lua sen you pick up [Music] [Music] the he Shang is 24 years of age from n Chang the capital of jangi [Music] province has been as high as three on the world ranking 13 weeks across two different spells but currently number six this is his third consecutive Thomas cup campaign and looking at his matches well he’s played all five matches at second men singles in in this campaign as I was telling you he lost in the quarterfinal to lent in three games but yesterday beat Leon jungha from Malaysia raced to an 11 love lead in that second game incidentally which he eventually won 2110 so to Jonathan Christie in his fifth Thomas cup campaign in the fifth time he’s either played first or second men singles 26 years of age from the Indonesian capital of Jakarta that equates to 5′ 10 and he’s just one place down from his career high of two well that confirms what I was telling you all of his matches won against England against Thailand against India he beat lxa in three games in the quarterfinal against Korea he beat Cho and in the the semi-final against Chinese Taipei he beat wangu to win the tie three love [Music] son s Ali or Marias are on PA of this one and Sydney Gallos from New Zealand the service [Music] judge stpp [Applause] [Music] [Applause] ladies and gentlemen on my right China represented by [Applause] Lu and on my left Indonesia represented by Jonathan Christi Indonesia to serve la so the third match of this Thomas Cup Final China Le to love and require just one more [Music] well if you were going to go on form you’d have to go with Christie wouldn’t you Steen won all his matches this week won all his matches this week has uh a really good head-to-head against liun um two titles in the last two tournaments played yes so uh from that perspective clearly the favorite but his team is trailing two nothing and how much more is there left in the tank he’s had a really good um two months with the all England title with the Asia championship title uh I think from um the match uh we saw against laaen he he was a little bit um under pressure there and had to use all his um his experience to get the the better of lxa so [Applause] um even though at the first Glimpse it looks like chrisy then there’s some things that are in favor of Leif [Music] [Applause] that’s G [Music] wide and they met in the um final of the 20 20 21 Thomas cop the uh score line was totally the opposite Indonesia were leading two nothing back then oh that’s a lovely [Music] shot and of course he jully won and Indonesia won the Thomas cup for a 14th time yeah quite remarkable so that Indonesia s consecutive finals that’s pretty impressive isn’t it four out of the last five finals and back in 2016 there was a a quite remarkable decision to leave Jonathan Christie out of the lineup in the final against Denmark I think that might have cost Indonesia the early back then [Applause] [Music] 3 [Music] 5 oh that’s just White [Music] [Music] [Applause] 5 that’s a super jump SM isn’t it he’s a wonderful mover he’s Jonathan Christie very strong legs smooth strong mover around the court and I think that’s one of the um reasons why Leon has um trouble with Jonathan Christie one five down in the head to heads Christie has a balanced game he uh can both attack and defend and he’s quick on his feet good in the flat game so leang P has to be close to his very best to U match Jonathan [Applause] Christie it’s looking good for that’s a super [Music] good [Music] [Applause] [Music] Pace get ready this is five straight points missed [Applause] [Music] it that to me is a sign of respect for the Indonesians defensive capabilities he goes so sharp liif fun [Applause] he’s going to change that up most likely to get a proof that it’s um actually wide the way I saw it [Music] clearly wide challenge unsuccessful One Challenge remaining 9 5 play [Music] oh yeah that’s a good smash seem to up the pace in that rally FK it’s over [Applause] 69 well that had been a run of seven straight points for Jonathan Christie [Music] oh my goodness should have put that away Christie 7 9 [Applause] that second attack coming through in Christy’s backhand side [Music] oh well [Applause] [Music] taken ooh I think perhaps the shuttle didn’t cross the net there with no call from our [Applause] umpire s Rally from [Applause] mauricius so back in the lead that was important I think for the shun and another well placed Smash down the backhand [Music] side this is a great comeback isn’t it go to the mid game interval with the advantage on of six stay points [Music] fore 119 play so 119 the advantage as play [Music] resumes so the seven point points for Christie to go 95 up is responded with nine with seven straight points for Lei Fang that’s going [Applause] wide over [Music] [Applause] [Music] just long Christin decided it wasn’t worth a challenge considering he’s hitting with the drift yeah missed it what a has happened to [Music] Chris nine of the last 10 points to Lei [Music] Fang Excell that’s nice 11 [Music] one of the shots we also see shiu utilize it’s very efficient landed on the back line [Music] [Applause] [Music] nice angle oh that’s too flat that’s gone oh that’s a missed opportunity Le she found yeah it was right where he wanted it there was a big gab in ch’s back hand side [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh what the neck [Applause] cord oh that’s going wide and Christy back level what a strange scoring patn steam it’s a mixed double scoring patent very often in uh streaks and mixed up but apparently also here where players take turns at Coming [Applause] [Music] Back le le thank you tournament right three on the left as we looked at them gishnu of [Applause] India that’s long my goodness me so now five straight points to Christie [Music] [Applause] [Applause] 16 14 extraordinary [Music] [Applause] [Applause] long as the back line and the Run of points comes to an end at six [Applause] [Music] Sil 17 [Music] 15 J you ready to serve now somebody’s using a flashlight right behind the court okay Le ont no thank you 1715 opening [Applause] [Music] game Love play from Christy first the net shot that crisp smash wasn’t necessarily a certain kill but it put some pressure on [Applause] christe has won eight of the last nine [Applause] [Music] points and that go is long make that nine of the last 10 points [Music] [Music] Le show it [Applause] one thank you [Applause] two points away from the opening game [Applause] Christie he seemed to be in command of the rally the Indonesian and then wasn’t really committed on the followup was he he paid for that and if it continues then we will see a streak now from D yes the scoring pattern continues from the so far in this opening [Applause] game Ah that’s a super isn’t that crisp just delightful and Jonathan Christie has earned himself four game point [Music] opportunities opening game to Indonesia and Jonathan chrisy 2116 having trailed 10 14 that is remarkable just about 20 minutes for the opening game the opening game in favor of [Music] [Applause] Indonesia [Music] [Music] [Applause] fore for okay okay come on say come on [Music] second game Love play so Jonathan Christie one game to the good taking that opening game 2114 [Applause] one 2116 I do [Music] apologize yeah things are looking good for the all England Champion now got the better end from which to play [Applause] 1 [Music] oh wa [Music] 2 [Music] [Music] 1 Tred to control it as much as possible eventually taken out by the sideways truth I suspect [Music] [Music] Anthony ginting done his warmed out after his match the first match of this final tie back supporting that’s good to see [Applause] [Music] [Music] oh that’s a that’s a fantastic shot no wonder he smiles I think ging ginting and Christy shii and is from I mean we we at the moment we’re seeing number one in the country against number two from the other country we’re seeing number one from Indonesia against leifang who’s number two in the ranking for for China and we saw the opposite in in the first men single so could have been even more interesting to see chrisy against Chi and ginting against theang now that they they do The Knockout draw from a more recent uh world ranking perhaps the order of um lineup should also be redone from that um that’s a good point newer date chrisy is smiling out to Y after each rally I think the the ranking for the teams should only be done from the players that are nominated for the competition yes who [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] six just missed it [Music] had some difficulties finding the lines here in the opening of the second game Jonathan Christie it’s not that many points that Leong has scored [Music] himself well if he’s struggling to find the back line at the far side of the court that suggests that the drift has [Music] changed I don’t think it has but we’ve seen also throughout the week that sometimes it’s difficult to control the lift even from the near side here [Applause] [Music] we don’t see it but outside the picture almost after every rally Christy is smiling and talking toai and so on uh I’m a little bit um concerned about that um I [Applause] think when you play you should preferably be in U own box on the green square oh what how did he not put that away that’s unbelievable B how is this rally still in progress that was going wide that is extraordinary I can hardly believe it how in Earth did leang win that rally [Music] sadly we’re only seeing the end of the rally it was the beginning that was of [Applause] Interest Jonathan Christie must have had three or four opportunities to finish it off he [Applause] had longest rally so far thank you well some of the things that we need to uh I have an eye on here is whether Christie can actually maintain his concentration long and off and how does leun react to that long rally we saw early on in the week when he played lxa that one long rally um towards the end of the match more or less um uh made it difficult for him to get back because um he didn’t have the stamina that’s a super shot wrong with that Chinese women’s team you Cup team and other international players all here to support China in the Thomas Cup Final [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hey [Applause] good shot good rally [Applause] m [Applause] s this is extraordinary it’s another run of seven straight points from leang mind you he had a run of seven straight points in the opening game and he didn’t win it but but he he’s going directly out to take uh a [Music] drink Le you F there’s no um mopping or anything but that’s not in R rules play must be continuous and as you’ve said on many occasions steam just because you’ve had long it doesn’t mean to say you can have a rest but that’s sort of been established that if you play along rally oh then we should have a rest yeah China Challengers going out I don’t think he will win that challenge now the shoes been undone no he doesn’t win that challenge challenge unsuccessful time will be taken in tying the shoelaces over 9 [Music] [Applause] [Music] play oh my goodness [Music] chrisy just popping the shuttle up into the Hitting Zone of Le he must have changed his mind [Music] surely shot to the mid game interval winning nine of the last 10 points [Music] [Music] she now un TI tying the left shoelace he’s almost struggling with his shoelaces and his foot yeah I GA the ongoing foot problem he may need an operation but he’s not going to have it before the Olympics that’s for sure [Applause] [Music] oh the perfect drop shot from deep in his forand Corner taking the shuttle late gets the net caught thank you thank you use your food thank you [Applause] [Music] overa hey [Music] [Applause] [Music] well yeah well taken talic looking a little concerned isn’t he [Music] [Applause] nice s how to go 13 9 solid yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] one left more proactive in that rally Christy yeah I think he’s trying to to get back into the Zone concentration wise the thing is that he’s um he’s falling a bit behind there ready so the’s got a little bit of a cushion there’s not a lot of room for erors miss it [Music] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] struggling to control the push to the back of the Court either the drift isn’t as pronounced as it has been earlier on in the [Applause] tournament well chrisy has just not got the touch or field today missed another he’s challenging CH I’m pretty certainly she felt will win that challenge [Applause] [Music] here we go yeah clearly wide cor out 6 10 play nice I like that block yeah turn the bracket head at the last moment put a bit of Disguise on it Christie [Music] [Applause] [Music] 17 [Music] 11 he was 62 up Christie now he’s down 155 since then yeah it’s a drastic turnaround isn’t it it is and even if he can get back to [Applause] uh to focus then leifang he’s um smelling a comeback and perhaps become the hero of the Chinese team [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 17 than 14 17 take [Music] [Applause] oh good defense yeah three points away from a third and deciding [Music] game opponent thank you [Music] [Applause] [Applause] that’s great control from Mei [Music] [Music] [Applause] oh that’s a nice shot brilliant it’s game point opportunities for lean and China to level this s men singles of one game a piece [Applause] oh Jonathan Christie was about to go for the kit pack and change ends landed [Music] out well we’ve seen comebacks from a bigger deficit than this [Music] before oh dear one game all 2115 the second game 215 game confirms that it’s one game all 2115 the second game to Le and we will have a third and deciding game [Music] for for [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay come on [Music] final [Applause] game play it is a m win for Jonathan Christie to keep this Thomas Cup Final alive for China they’re just one game away from regaining the Thomas cup which they last won in Bangkok six years [Music] [Applause] ago over done it and from from 62 up in the second game that last shot has lacked quality last shot in the rallies have lacked quality uh from uh Christy really got to refocus good shot over 2 1 [Music] thank you le le le le want change 2 1 got yeah Jonathan’s Christie stepping forward into the flat exchange whereas Le fun stepping backwards push you see he’s going backwards going backwards yeah do you think he thought about leaving that second last one possibly [Applause] oh that’s a super shot [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey he [Music] ah it’s good attack by um scoring in the backand of Christie it’s not easy but there’s a good opportunity uh height just throughout the shorts of Christie and a little bit outside of the left arm oh that’s a good smash that’s a very good smash [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh no that’s why I saw that as wide yeah me too [Applause] Direction out good challenge play those blocks there in the backand from leun they’re not really helping him what should he be doing then I don’t know he’s a little bit late them do that [Applause] yeah think he must be ready a little bit earlier anticipating a little bit better [Applause] [Music] that’s the Super Smash is it really good placement and it’s such a nice variation in singles isn’t it the body smash you got to use it to to keep the sides open thank [Music] you 5 7 [Music] just long with the back [Music] line only one point the deficit now [Music] [Applause] nice block what a rally chop [Applause] there [Music] brilliant so [Music] 43 shots [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh he sort of played that with a windmill sort of action didn’t he he did I I think he looked tired towards that um end of the long rally [Music] [Music] Yun oh that’s push wide that’s a careless return of [Music] serve match clock ticks over the hour mark [Applause] [Music] took the pce out of the smash there I think that was clever [Music] [Applause] oh my goodness that wasn’t a million miles [Music] away it’s a long step it takes the wow wide to the change of ends with a three-point advant AG Jonathan Christie and Indonesia in this third and deciding game of the third match of the [Music] [Music] tie fore [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] 11 8 well it’s interesting Steen because both players so far in this match have paid better from supposedly the more difficult end of the Court Far Side yeah they have [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that is a tremendous [Music] smash do you think Lee Fang is pretty much going to go all out attack um he was attacking player that basically got him the second game wasn’t it attack and control thank you meaning that um not necessarily attack on every shot but trying to play it from above the tape and um overcover the front Court [Music] a good little cushion he got himself there Christie after the long rally at seven all good play yeah and look at him running to pick up the shuttle eager to get on with it that’s sending a message to his opponent isn’t it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] nice definitely getting a lot of power in his smashes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] T over Danel [Applause] [Music] well if China had to win this Thomas Cup Final in three straight matches Leif Fang needs to start making his move I don’t think he um he can no and I think for most neutrals like ourselves Ste we would love to see see this go before this this definitely I said right at the start if we were to come down to that third men singles the fifth match where the previous encounters a one win a piece my goodness wouldn’t that be exciting [Applause] chy has definitely up the pace wow brilliant fastic play teammates on their [Music] feet real determination thank you look at that what it means thank you [Applause] Sixpoint [Music] [Applause] Advantage 16 10 [Music] [Applause] oh he missed it but still fast fluent movement in that Rally from Jonathan Christie yes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] China Challengers gold out well that looked long to me I have to say Steen yeah I agree indeed it was long tallent and sucessful One Challenge remaining service over 17 11 [Applause] oh broken strengths that’s maybe how he got his foot injury [Laughter] [Applause] uh three points needed to get a first point on the board in the overall tie for Indonesia [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Sil 12 well given the fact that the she hang has at least twice in this match had a run of seven straight points nothing is guaranteed not at [Music] [Applause] all oh goodness must have changed his mind Christy wanted the shuttle changed Le Fang says no the Mind Games of a LE [Applause] Sport now it’s Le K that’s dashing to the net to pick up the shuttle eager to play on and there’s these peculiar eras again where I feel that he’s gone down in um pace and concentration [Applause] Christie this is a big point oh I don’t believe itas [Applause] that is extraordinary again P she rushes to pick up the shutle thetic exchange in the early stages of that rally well we’re only seeing the final net [Music] Court which was pretty special but what was it four or five neck shots back to each other yeah I think it was five nobody really wanted to give in and [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] lift so the deficit is reduced to just three points as far as China are concerned [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] was looking calm I was just about to say he was calm like that when he was playing he was this is [Music] unbelievable five straight points and only two points in it now the nerves will start to jangle with Jonathan Christie both men jumping up and down what a [Applause] match well the n cord I’m not convinced that LE F didn’t actually touch the net with his lift there with the follow [Music] [Applause] through Christy winning the point anyway two points needed for Jonathan Christie to send this final to at least a fourth match of the tie well technically he played the shot your hand was up his his hand was upe you have to put your hand down okay play I wouldn’t mind seeing that again if he plays the shuttle Jonathan Jonathan come here head yeah but the rules of babington say that if you move to play the shuttle or play the shuttle yeah but the Umpire went he called L okay and the moment the Umpire course let R count okay good [Music] point so had he uh tried to return it and returned it into the net for instance then it would have counted if he done it before the Umpire called that oh my goodness such drama 1916 deciding [Music] game oh get a neck on the return of Sir would you believe [Music] it and we get the line judges on to markal court again [Music] thank you [Music] L 1719 well left and it’s Match Point opportunities for [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Indonesia oh my goodness he’s got back in Head Court [Applause] he’s done [Applause] it Jonathan Christie keeps the Thomas Cup Final alive winning the third match of the tie [Applause] [Music] well he really injected Pace in that deciding game especially after the change of ends and all credit to Jonathan Christie by Indonesia [Music] 21117 a match lasting an hour and 17 minutes [Music] this is the final [Music] [Applause] rally the moment of Victory turns to his teammates and celebrates that Indonesia are still in the Thomas Cup [Music] final confirmation of the score 216 1521 2117 in the deciding game in a match lasting an hour and 17 minutes so we will go to a fourth match of of this final and it’s the second men’s doubles her Ting and ren shanu for China up against F and mulana for Indonesia [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] welcome back to chenu and this wonderful facility in the chenu Hightech Sports Center Stadium where we have been based for the last 9 days [Applause] [Music] so 2-1 the overall tie in the Thomas Cup Final and next up is the second men’s doubles her and ran for China against mamed sh ambas molana [Music] [Music] Steen it’s nice for us that the final is going Beyond two uh three uh straight matches yeah it is now we get some um excitement in h this match here and nerves are going to be jangling again there’s no doubt about it yeah and when we’ll see the head to heads shortly between these two pairs and this I can tell you will be our fourth meeting and fi and Morana have the a better of their opponents in the three former three [Music] encounters final China versus Indonesia V double [Music] [Music] so here come the Indonesians the 2022 all England champions mamed soas mulana four finals last year already won this year in individual competition reach the final of the Swiss open interestingly we’re not selected for the semi final tie against Chinese taipe which Indonesia won before they got to the second doubles anyway oh [Applause] China herg tin and renan well if you were with us earlier in the week and watched this Chinese [Music] pair I think it was was it against the Malaysians or was it against the Indian pair where she and looks extremely nervous I think was against capila and [Music] prti so the head-to-head between these two pairs as I was telling you third Mee uh fourth meeting and of the previous three the Indonesians have won two of them [Applause] [Music] so the change bends before the start of the 2minute warm up period who won the toss yeah I I looked at it uh but I I couldn’t see who was um selecting ends I don’t know who W toss either so um we don’t have the Umpire microphone here [Music] [Applause] so this is renan U who’s 25 years of age 180 equates to just under 5’1 he and his partner are enjoying their career high ranking of 11 in fact it’s their seventh consective week herg eting is on his third Thomas cup campaign with his third different partner older of the two at 26 from fujian Province and looking at their matches well they weren’t selected against Australia or indeed against Korea in the group decider but did play against Canada in the group stage then in the quarterfinal and the semi-final they have been picked for the second men’s doubles on both occasions the quarterfinals against capila and PR and then on the semifinal a be goif feay and nor isin in fact it was the winning match in that semifinal so to the Indonesians and Mohamed soil a 24 years of age born in bangong which is where T kidak was born who’s here supporting the Indonesians Bas molana 25 years of age from CA chap in Central Java he’s the taller of the two as you can see 182 that’s 5 for the 11 and A2 and well against England they won that match then they weren’t selected against Thailand then in the group decider uh they beat ranki ready and Shetty in three games in one of the most extraordinary matches I’ve ever won winess they won on their 13th Match Point opportunity lost the quarterfinal as you can see to the world champions Kang and saw of Korea and yesterday were not selected for the semifinal AA for this one find datan from India and our service judge from Switzerland ladies and gentlemen on the right China represented by rangan U and [Music] hij and on Indonesia and mul China his young youth to Mohammad love all for the last time that these two pairs were in the Asia men’s team championships the quarterfinal knockout stage and F and Moana in two straight games so so they were close games 2119 2119 yeah good work fre he’s been playing well as of late it’s going to be interesting to see uh what happens on the front Court here because in my opinion fi is clearly the better front Court player of the four uh I suppose it’s herting who will end up taking up the challenge with [Music] him Indonesian combination as we often see it clear front Court player back court player whilst um it’s more floating with um reting and renang you wipe the bo please wipe the bo please wipe the bo please service over 3 2 [Music] [Music] [Applause] return from Ren of the tumble serve from pek [Music] [Applause] oh my goodness Bo that’s a fantastic rally oh my word what a smash from team to end the rally and it was seen a fantastic rally as you rightly identified my goodness me the fast flat exchanges we can see that the Chinese trying to up the pace in the fast flat play whil the Indonesians all the time looking to reduce it get it below the tape [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh my goodness how on Earth did Renu play that shutle over the [Applause] net that’s [Music] [Applause] amazing muns need to have a little ankle on the service return to Ren he started out really well R yeah and there was me saying that we thought he looked a little bit nervous I think it was I think I got it wrong it was yesterday it was in yesterday’s SEI wasn’t it against the Malaysians serving really well here in the opening stages Ren gives him the opportunity to um read the third shot hold on [Applause] hold Drive defense and move forward another good rally but the way the Chinese wants to play I think Indonesians quickly have to um uh utilize some of the game planning that they play against them ranki ready and sh where a lot of the defense is cross blocks at least mix it up right now they in a a whirlwind of Chinese shots and [Applause] movements yeah eight straight points [Music] [Applause] good return of serve the net cour right idea wrong execution [Music] [Applause] one goes long of the back line and it’s a Sixpoint Advantage for hergi ting and renan U at the mid game interval the opening game he watched it closely got his spatial awareness look down at the line back up at the sh [Music] for [Music] [Applause] oh yes good interception from F Creek and I suppose Ste that’s what the indones got to try and do you were saying right at the start of the match you thought that fi was the best front Court player of all four players on court yeah but we haven’t really seen enough of that no because if it if it’s played too fast flat then I mean almost no one can intercept and um we’ve seen that if that last flat Game Exchange is um established and the pair on the far side they have to be aware of what just happened here that you push it too much and it goes over the back line so they got to return well get it below the tape and that’s the one that’s the block played by Molina there the fourth shot super important this one yes so basically he can only attack full power when he’s in a reasonably good position so he can uh both get it and with some power the problem is that the Chinese know this so if they have him a little bit out of balance they move forward both of [Applause] them otherwise it will be too easy [Applause] and they’re keeping Secret at the back line if they can and that’s not where he likes to [Applause] be good serve great play by the Chinese and again if you watch this the slight movement forward by the Chinese pair as they’re driving yeah whereas the Indonesians either a little static or even back [Applause] pedaling they the Indonesians they need to get uh a few service returns in cross long to open up the court the two Chinese players are doing a really good job of staying close [Applause] together o that was a Miss time smash but it was J effective that [Music] was failure of the surgery but the patient survived anyway [Applause] long as the back [Music] line they’re being blitzed F and molana [Applause] [Applause] [Music] yeah good defense by the Chinese F doesn’t have have the Firepower to make something happen from the back court at the [Applause] [Applause] moment oh going to see got back the dive [Music] [Applause] from yeah it actually backpedal a little bit too much that’s why he had to make the [Applause] dive back on fo thank you thank [Music] [Applause] you landed on the line de a [Music] [Applause] play my oh my word that’s an extraordinary shot well it’s been challenged by [Music] Indonesia if he’s made it this is one of the best smashes you’ll ever see oh he did make it he did make it using his mixed double skills there to uh find the gaps at the net at the front Court of the Indonesians clearly [Applause] [Music] [Applause] in ch the one Cheng remaining some 19 dead play game point opportunities and in all honesty in this opening game Chinese pair have been a pace quicker than their opponents [Applause] yes and that’s even though the Indonesians are playing with the [Music] Drift opening game in favor of China 211 against F and molana there’s the final rally the crash of rackets between the two Indonesians 16 minutes and China just one game away from [Music] regaining fore speee for [Applause] [Music] [Music] 20 seconds 20 seconds so China One game to the good in the fourth match of the Thomas Cup Final andana for Indonesia have to win this match to keep the tie alive so the big question Steen how are they to do that tactically what have they got to do um that’s um that’s a bit difficult because they they look like um they’ve lost a lot of confidence the way I see it um the way I see it they’ve got to try and uh rattle the Chinese and I think the easiest one is still uh R shangu I don’t think they can touch herting today I think he’s just playing too well so you go very determined for rent that means you play the service return and the next Ching turn you don’t play those to u h your te they got away with [Music] it and once in a while uh you play over uh the the one coming forward because you have that uh option here you cannot use it too often but you have to use it to make the court big that was the problem in the first game that the front Court was closed down by the Chinese and you can see they’re pushing the first the service return they’re doing really well what we saw against the Chan ranking ready was that the Indonesians played the service situation really well they’ve not at all uh been doing that today they haven’t scored a lot of points there they haven’t gained initiative I would also perhaps flick a couple of times um just to get the Chinese away from those low serves flick and then push the defense forward try and block it the problem is that it’s molana who no that was sh viory I beg your pardon that’s that’s a big problem if he doesn’t uh win those [Applause] [Music] [Applause] battles and then I would take a lot try and take a lot longer time in between the rallies because otherwise this could be over in double quick time doesn’t miss many of those hery ting [Music] on on Take [Applause] [Applause] yeah there’s the soft block cross brilliant [Music] play there’s actually [Applause] who’s not make the most errors but that the IND have scored against here in the opening okay yeah that’s well [Music] worked four five points they have scor the Indonesians that’s been on H Team [Music] L super [Music] generating good power with his [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] backand so over 6 that [Music] sharp the turn serve and he had his racket up ready straight away look at this two three in the rally [Applause] good shot 7 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that’s a good return of s he really tumbled that shot there goling here watching it’s wonderful the way the Chinese invite all their past stars to come watch and [Applause] support this is fast Furious 8 7 [Music] [Applause] [Applause] they have to use full CT the Indonesians otherwise when in are too good they’re too quick with the racket they’re too quick in their movements on the front Court [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that’s landed on the back [Music] line the drive defense flat over the net [Music] yeah Plum on the back [Applause] line and that’s long and on a run of five straight points herg Ting and reniu go to the mid game interval with a four-point [Applause] [Music] advantage foree fore [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 117 so 117 in the second game having already won the first the Chinese combination now on a run of six straight points first thing the Indonesians need to do is break this run here [Applause] [Music] [Applause] wow he’s playing well this man he’s been absolutely fantastic look at this athletic leap from the midcourt area to play the winning smash that is incredible oh that’s a super smash right onto the [Music] line 9 [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] a little smile on the face of swano the singles coach he has a feeling that China are about to gain the Thomas cup [Applause] lovely that’s it that’s the [Music] away they’ve got to rely on their defense if it doesn’t hold up well so be it [Applause] [Applause] that’s so good not leaving any time for molana even if he wanted to I don’t think you had the time to lift blocking for his life [Applause] [Applause] there creeping ever closer to their goal [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good return 16 how desperately the Indonesians need little run of points right [Applause] now ni [Music] smash 16 [Music] threaded it down the [Applause] [Applause] line every time the Indonesians are trying to play with face they’re getting punched in the nose they’re so much faster and ru [Applause] [Music] Tesla over 13 [Music] [Applause] 17 quick [Applause] three points required to lift the Thomas Cup trophy once more six years ago they lifted the trophy in Bangkok than you thank you they’re not there yet thank you about the second men’s doubles pair of hergi Ting and renan you are playing so well it would take something remarkable from the Indonesians to turn this around [Applause] [Applause] oh thean kill from herting s Jord is now taken over banging the drum leading the support take a look at this final backand from hery Ting was inspirational two tantalizing points from an 11th Thomas cup title 14 19 [Music] [Applause] that’s going long at the back line 15 19 [Music] [Applause] the error on the next shot from F three and it is Championship points five opportunities to live this iconic trophy thank [Music] you hey hey [Music] [Applause] [Applause] hey they’ve done it an 11th [Music] [Applause] title for China in the Thomas cup The cour Invasion by [Applause] teammates two years ago China didn’t even make the semifinal stage so this is a brilliant bounce back two years [Applause] on and they will leave changu with the Thomas [Music] Cup and the right to call themselves World men’s Team [Music] [Applause] Champions what a fantastic performance by herg Ting and horen shanu the celebration begin for team [Applause] [Music] [Applause] China 2111 215 in 38 minutes [Applause] [Music] stey was a wonderful team performance wasn’t it it was they performed magnificently these two here they were the experience in my opinion I never imagined they could play that [Applause] well super performance [Applause] away I think the Indonesians they must have felt like uh driving the car into a car wash and then uh deciding to stay in the car suddenly realizing that you’re driving a Cabriolet they never knew what hit them but it was this man together with hertin he’s almost in tears he is in [Music] tears L guu who was due to play the third singles the fifth match of the tie was one of the first to run on and congratulate Ren shanu sheer joy for the Chinese team 2111 2150 in just under 38 minutes and it means that China secure the Thomas cup for an 11th time this is how they did it [Applause] this the Thomas Cup result 3-1 Jonathan Christie was Indonesia’s only winner of the day shiu Chi quite frankly was astonishing both yesterday in the semifinal and today against ginting then the world number one’s theang Kang and Wang CH came from 1617 down winning five straight points to close out the match against alen and aranto and as Steam was saying well herg Ting and Renu they were relatively new partnership and for them to play that well when the pressure was on when Jonathan Christie had just won a match to keep Indonesia in the Thomas Cup Final I thought was astonishing huge congratulations to China Thomas Cup winners 11 [Music] time ladies and Gentlemen by C1 University [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so the players waiting in the wings Malaysia who lost in the semifinal to [Music] China Malaysia first medal in8 [Applause] years Justin ho there was playing third men singles for the team selected at third men singles for out stage match is not contested because the tie was already won or lost we have to mention Chinese taipe as Ste what a tournament they had they only finished Runners up of Group B to China to Japan and then beat Denmark in the quarterfinal stage that was an astonishing win 13-1 first ever semi final first ever medal for Chinese Taipei in the Thomas cup yeah it’s a it’s a great result for them it’s not completely unexpected because when we talked about um teams that could do well in the Thomas cup and then there’s also Chinese taipe they’ve got good men’s doubles they’ve got three four men’s singles that also can play you can’t rule them out they’re dangerous they’re Outsiders they’re underdogs and they make the most of it the way I think and you can see and their faces they are they’re quite satisfied with their performance here and they should be they should be very proud of their performance so as you can see all the four teams the four medalists getting ready for the prize presentation Wang chilin the Olympic champion talking to chinu also think Malaysia they also um performed well here took Denmark the full distance in the in the group tie and then defeated Japan fought valiantly against um China yesterday I think we ought to ought to mention in group C Thailand I thought that some of the young Thai players played extremely well yeah there were sign of some of the future stars there toak Brothers yeah one plays doubles one plays singles yeah both [Music] lefties vitan he didn’t pass the group stage but I think didn’t he beat pooi in the group stage so there’s signs that he’s uh about to uh return to form the the world champion shiu Chi has been outstanding this tournament hasn’t he yeah he’s been uh the number one player in the world here in 2024 there’s no doubt about it in my mind it would have been interesting to see him against Jonathan Christie in first men single yeah but of course once the ranking that’s used to determine the order of play at the moment I know you’ve made a suggestion that maybe we should use the latest ranking you can’t suddenly put in your second highest ranked player from those rankings no at number one they’ve all got to go in on order there o and Chen and I think they’re quite satisfied that her and Ren are not amongst top eight in the race to Paris ranking uh I think at the moment the way they perform today and ren are very strong contenders for being the second men’s double pair from China which the team selection also suggests [Music] very happy Chinese team so they should be so Ste for the first time in 12 years a single nation holds both the Thomas and the Uber Cup and the S German [Music] cup as well as well well since the Inception of both the Thomas and the Uber cups only two Nations have ever held both titles at the same time and rather fitting that it’s the two Nations who were involved in the two finals today China and Indonesia but since the two competitions have been played in the same venue at the same time it’s the eighth time that China has held both the Thomas and the U C first was 1986 then 2 years later two years after that then 2004 there was quite a gap between 1990 and 2004 2006 2008 2012 yeah it’s going to be interesting because this Chinese team is reasonably young so there was a dominance and um Chinese Class of [Music] 2004 uh when they won their first Thomas cop lindan B Le p and Kai and those uh those boys they were dominant for 8 years is the same going to happen to uh this year’s team well when you when you think that’s a a great possibility I I assume but if if you also look at the Uber Cup team you know three women’s doubles players in the top five all four singles players in the top 20 we’ve seen it coming for a while they build a strong team China [Music] yeah Ah that’s Lovely isn’t it the the fact that the Indonesians and the Chinese team chatting able to smile at each other [Music] so it’s lovely to see that so many fans have stayed behind to see the prize presentation the medals given out and of course the Thomas Cup trophy handed to the winning team this was the 33rd edition of the Thomas Cup first was 19 1949 75 years [Music] [Applause] ago it’s one of the iconic trophies in sport I think the Thomas and Yuber cups especially the Thomas Cup made of solid silver 28 in tall 16 in wide made by abkin Brothers of London of course it was presented first of all by S George Thomas a former England player I wonder what Sir George Thomas and Mrs Betty Yuber would make of how their competitions the trophies they donated for these two events how it has grown and how is it it’s become such a a major event globally I think they’d be astonished and pleased and proud yes [Music] ladies and gentlemen toal energy speed WF 4. I was so happy second Indonesian pair play the same tactic through entire match. You need to make your opponent feel uncomfortable, at least something to think about.
