Ryan Papenhuyzen injury: Melbourne Storm fullback suffers ankle issue
Ryan Papenhuyzen is facing yet another spell on the sidelines as the unlucky star sustained an injury during Melbourne Storm’s clash against the Gold Coast Titans.
The fullback had produced plenty of highlight moments in the first half of an entertaining match before a routine kick chase into the in-goal resulted in disaster as he suffered an ankle issue.
Papenhuyzen’s foot caught in the turf as he made a tackle on AJ Brimson, which he tried to walk off until he collapsed back to the turf as a club medic quickly attended to him.
The 25-year-old limped from the field with just one minute remaining on the clock in the first stanza and was pictured in the sheds in a moon boot with Melbourne reporting he had suffered a high ankle sprain.
The injury is to the same ankle which he fractured during a clash against Brisbane late last season.
“This is not a good sign,” James Graham said on Fox League as the drama unfolded.
“Everybody in the game of rugby league is crossing their fingers.”
Sua Fa’alogo had been promoted into the side during a late switch with Tyran Wishart and deputised for the injured No.1 in the second half.
The youngster, in just his second NRL game, had earlier put his name up in lights when he bamboozled Phillip Sami off a scrum to score in the corner.
Although Fa’alogo had his own injury issues to overcome as he was sent for a HIA on the stroke of half time.
This meant the Storm were without both the Samoan international and Papenhuyzen to start the second period.
