Jason Demetri Ben Hy for the rest of the year but will Wayne Bennett be back at Redfern Zack Bailey our man from The Newsroom covers all the big stories in Rabia League he’s been camped out at Bunny’s headquarters today Zach it is all happening what’s the latest yeah huge day there yesterday obviously two board meetings first in the morning then in the afternoon which led to Jason Demetrio’s sacking to be fair it looked like it was coming for a couple of weeks but for the first time today in a long time we saw Blake suy the South Sydney CEO front the cameras and he stood there for about 15 or 16 minutes and fielded every question that came from every journalist there the main ones were around why Jason Demetrio was sacked and why now and the the main reasons that stood out he said that they didn’t believe he was the man to change their playing style or management of players which what that’s what really stood out for me so uh they’d given him time JD fronted the board yesterday in the morning and said here’s a document here’s why I should be given the next couple of months to try and turn the club around but obviously the club and the head officials there didn’t agree Zach the the you just said management of players do you think that should be solely on the first grade coach well don’t know for sure that’s a great question Joey but obviously he’s got a team there and they they brought in David ferer during the by week only a couple of weeks ago Ben horby steps in today uh the other the other question was when I said what do you need to what do you need in your next coach uh and he said s with first grade experience in terms of coaching a first team not necessarily in the NRL but maybe in the super league as well but he said it’s a unique team here I know that I’ve worked with him for a couple of years and he kind of laughed when he said that when I followed up with the question of what do you mean by unique he said well every team is unique in terms of the players they have good athletes and the other one the word that stood out he said great personalities but the one thing with the bunnies as you know they’re big personalities the likes of latron Mitchell Cody Walker Jack wden they’re experienced players with big personalties so sorry Zach can you just go back what was the context of the quote a unique team can you I said I said what what do you need what do you want in your new coach the next coach and part of that answer he said it’s a unique team here I know that I’ve worked alongside them for the last couple of years well there’s a first I’ve never heard that does that mean you got a unique up on him oh I’m not I’m not too sure joke anyway the other part of what’s going on of s is everyone’s talking about Wayne Bennett now um how much should we believe in that Wayne is coming back well BL Solly said today that he personally hasn’t spoken to spoken to him I don’t know if that means that people from the club haven’t reached out to Wayne Bennett but he no doubt is at the top of their list he led them to a grand final a couple of years ago he’s obviously with the Dolphins now he has nowhere to go but one thing you you need to knowe is that Wayne Bennett has said in the past that he won’t speak to a CO a club where a coach currently has a job so Jason Demetrio was signed beond this year for the bunnies he has now let go so I dare say that opens the door for Bunny’s management to get in touch with Wayne Bennett Blake soy said today they will be reaching out to Wayne see what his interest is one thing we know about Wayne is that he wants to coach on it simple as that he’s been at the bunnies before and when you talk about unique team and big personalities well Wayne Bennett knows how to deal with big personalities better than any other coach in the league everyone says he’s the best man manager in the game so is it a perfect fit maybe he’s certainly the man that could get the best out of the trail as history shows Zack there would have been a lot of questions flying around there uh I don’t know if this was amongst them Demitri for a couple of weeks has been on tender Hawks why did they punt him with 48 hours to go until they play the next game well we said why wasn’t it two weeks ago during the by week when everybody expected it might happen given that way the clubs the players were away for a couple of days and it would allowed them to get some fresh air the club deal with it and move on with Ben horby stepping in or Dave ferer stepping in as interim coach they said they wanted to give as much time to JD to turn around as possible and in one game so it wasn’t so much two days out from the Panthers result it was the fact that after they lost to the storm a big loss on Anzac Day they said okay we haven’t seen the signs over that twoe period that suggests that he can get the best out of this playing group moving forward as you said though 48 hours out you know out from the biggest game of their year in terms of the toughest opposition it’s not going to be easy for that group to get together reunite and get on the on the padic and put in a good performance so plenty going on down at marra today and no doubt this isn’t the full stop this is just the com on this chapter because everyone will now say well who’s the next coach will they bounce back this uh this weekend this year and also aging roster Damen cook dropped earlier this year um Cody Walker in the LR Mitchell returning from suspension is he a senator he’s a fullback Thank God I’m a rugby league journalist because it means I’ll have a job for the rest of the year hopefully yes indeed you got a busy day coming up we’ll see it all in 9 news tonight thanks Zach appreciate that I I find that so curious so they got flogged by konala and everyone was thinking well this is it but then they said well we saw signs of improvement then they had a buy then they got flogged by Melbourne and they make the call and paor Ben’s got 48 hours to get ready to play penth you wonder why they didn’t do it in the buy it’s just bizarre and I I feel sorry for Demitri having to walk out past the media yesterday and everyone’s asking if he still got a job I mean that’s so unfair it’s a tough is it is it what oh my God it is a tough kid but the joural has found out before so there was two meetings yesterday the that he’s going to the Warriors and then penrith come out and just go right these are the reasons X Y and Z done in a day yeah it’s true so a few things that were pointed to at board level we understand from the reporting that were concerning one of them is that Dimitri hasn’t developed the younger players and hasn’t picked them enough and one of the one of the things that was cited Michael chamus has written about this in detail today is that when they saw Talis Duncan named at 18th man to play penri the board that was basically the final straw they pick they say he’s not giving the younger players enough opportunity to develop do you see that at South well they’ve just come through a representative season and I don’t think sou um participated in many of the semifinals I can’t be exactly in the juniors in the Juniors so that’s in the 17s 19s have any teams didn’t have any teams so all of a sudden when you’re like that if you’re not if you can’t compete in them grades it’s once again it’s just less pressure pushing forward and if you have a look at their team at the moment you know you got Jo gry who seems like a really talented BL then you got dun Hawkins you got all of a sudden you got three or four BLS who were sort of really inexperienced first couple of games a b like what we’re seeing in camber at the moment and you know what if you’re playing a team that can hold their own like konala did for 10 minutes you’re gone young BLS cannot just withhold that they can’t withstand that sort of pressure so okay and the same happened with South Sydney the one I find Curious Joey and there’s there’s more to it than selection but they bought Sean Key from Manley he’s played what two or three games they’ve moved katangi to prop he’s An Origin back rower he’s a back rower this is very confusing well that happened after the roosters game roosters tailed them up at Alliance through the middle they’ve been tailed up through the middle and then they just then they went and changed everything and dropped over players but you’re right like if you have key there and all of a sudden there’s a system in place and you know they weren’t give him much chance but Jack go to the back row Campbell grahe what’s happening with Campell he’s got the sternum operation he’s not going to be back there was another strange one they didn’t decide to send him for surgery until February why wouldn’t they have done it before Christmas like to it seems it seems just from an outsider’s point of view that they they are not on the same page anywhere at that club at the moment like if it was bad if he had a crack Stone him been he was unavailable for your origin last year so he come yeah he come in and I said how are you guys I can’t do much training like seriously what do they do what are they wait until after anyway now Lan ilas has gone and they’ve signed the young pommy do well he hasn’t gone yet but he’s been given permission to negotiate oh okay okay yeah so impressive at Newcastle his first day I was here the first day when he add is doing the defense and he addressed the players and showed some clips from the previous year and put a couple of them on show like the you know the high profile Alpha miles and uh the way he delivered it and just his presence and they look they he was in the military armed forces and he was boxing champion you know played at the highest level it’s tough as they come he’s got a real presence to him I could see him coaching n coached 442 games in the Super League he has prob 442 wow who’s the coach at the moment was he coaching Wigan he was coaching wig he coached he played for Bradford and he coached now um was it hfield I did have a look at it before but he has a a very well established BR how much the appointment is around getting the best out of Mitchell Latrell or is that up to LR to win big games you need your best players playing well and without a doubt you know Jason Demetri obviously has gone down a an angle with latr maybe sort of followed What Wayne and the way Wayne does it and at the end of the day most hasn’t worked because you know Wayne’s the only one that can do that he just seems that’s his that’s his greatest asset he just seems to get the best out of players that other coaches can’t and you need your best players playing good and LR is their best player and the other element of this just to wrap it all up across town par matter is struggling and there’s Whispers around the future of Brad arur after 11 Seasons at the club this can often start a domino effect this stuff well I’d imagine if there was two jobs up for offer sou and if param matter if param job came up I reckon Wayne would prefer the paramet job something different well he’s got an affiliation he loved Jack Gibson had a relationship with Ron Massie who they sort of built param matter um I think with Moses and Dylan Brown there um Zack LX is going there Junior Paulo Rian kampbell Gillard strong stronger Squad you’d think more stability in the KE positions now you mentioned that there there would have to be some train of thought at param that if we can get this Blake he might be the final straw in us making a charge well they’re in a grand final two years ago that’s right but they’ve gone backwards things I know that but most do s did interesting times in Rabia League what a great game game if we start if we erode the kickoff then is that it’s only a matter of time before you started rting into those other no there just need to be I think duty of care and at the moment I think you just need to find out percentages and you just need to take a breath and go right is there a way that you can then does this need to actually be looked at or can we do something about it how come the collisions off a long Dropout aren’t the similar do you think because there’s less intensity um maybe because it doesn’t seem to be three guys going in at Force off a long Dropout like a teams go
