[Music] situated on the premier island of Sentosa with breathtaking views of Singapore following a record-breaking week in Adelaide we witness our first team playoff ever with a victory from the Hometown Heroes Ripper GC and individual Champion Bryan Steele last year we saw a playoff battle here in Singapore between Sergio Garcia and Taylor G with Taylor winning it all the question is who will step up this year all that and more right here at Club 54 pre-round show we’re live baby welcome to Club 54 pre-round show I am your host Christian cross and joining me is the one and only Jerry fals Jerry what’s up man are you going to melt out here I am melting out here at my I I I was sweating through my shirt before we started but we’re good and I uh I tell you what I haven’t even turned on the air conditioning in my room yet that’s how much I love this weather I was meant for this weather it’s like Florida in the summer we got to talk about Adelaide I mean holy moly it was incredible the fans were incredible about 94,000 people showed up to make an unforgettable record-breaking event uh how special was Adel Jerry I tell you what it felt like a whole lot more than 94,000 but it was awesome to have our Premiere event come down to our first ever team playoff with a rivalry between two countries and one of them being the Home Country you could have scripted it in Hollywood any better than that you got to look at these fans and how unique they are there was a granny Shack I don’t know if you guys saw uh just so many unique fans and and incredible phanom the shoes which Jerry we promised everyone we would do we didn’t get to do in the show but but uh it’s on your social yeah we did one off we did one off camera uh and here’s Ripper GC uh how fun to see these guys in their camaraderie and how they were able to celebrate together and just have a nothing better to explain than a storybook ending in the first team playoff ever yeah uh Ripper GC just talk about how great that was it was awesome and they do know how to celebrate they celebrated long into the night and a little bit the next day they enjoyed it um they literally felt like they were playing for a higher cause nothing of them had contended for the individual title but collectively they got it done and and it even during the first playoff it didn’t look likely but they did it and it meant so much to their country shout out to the cameraman whoever attached that camera to the champagne bottle that uh that shot was incredible last year in Adelaide uh the event won best golf event Award of 2023 it feels like those fans just brought something different out of the players that you don’t see often in golf would you agree with that yeah it was funny because I forget which player was said oh it was uh it was Adrien in our latest podcast he said it felt like he felt like he tried staying away from trying to keep to himself but then he realized just embrace it and it really helped him and all the players embraced that crowd embrac that Spirit there’s so much interaction between the players and the crowd in an environment like that and it was all good natured you know there were occasionally One Bad Apple but very very few yeah cam Smith said in his press conference he had a lot of pressure but when he started to see his teammates play so well well it actually added more pressure to him uh in his press conference he said he needed to dig deep and even though he didn’t maybe play his best golf he was able to stick through it would you say you’re seeing a special kind of leadership in cam Smith lately yes leading by example and you’re right he did he had the worst form of any of the Rippers that final day but he got it done he started making a few putts when it absolutely needed to happen and then put himself in the playoff uh along with Mark Lehman hooked his first drive but from that point forward he played Flawless golf oh for GC carried the weight of a Nation on their shoulders in Adelaide and in the end the team delivered let’s take a look back at the Aussie incredible [Applause] weekend my goodness what a scene we have here in Adelaide it felt like we were playing for the Australian public as much as we were playing for ourselves and the team it was awesome just to do that and obviously get the reactions that we got and it’s raining Amber next it was awesome to you have the crowd roaring for us on 12 there and well everywhere really one of the highlights of the year playing with all the boys in that first round it was a pretty cool experience oh oh oh there you well rer are delivering early here to the Delight of the galleries there was no one not supporting us I guess everyone everyone just wanted the Ripper GC team to [Music] win yeah I’m not sure how that missed to see that many people lining the fairways each day well I’ve never seen crows that deep Sor it was ridiculous 50 de 100 De it was crazy something that I’ll I’ll never forget obviously four of us hit the shots but you know there’s 20 odd people working for all of us and then another 100,000 that were part of the team for the week the Aussie gol fans have turned out in force true aie gr up the Rippers uh Ripper GC what a special moment here you can see them on stage with the champagne showers the Pyro and uh here’s a tweet from Lucas Herbert uh Team Champions baby what do you think Jerry yeah it was uh I don’t think we’ll ever get tired of seeing that video and uh and the and the crowd reaction I mean they came from all over the country they came from different parts of the world for that specific specific event I know uh suanne talked to one gentleman with his two daughters drove 14 hours to come there for one day and it was worth every minute of it to them pretty special day and uh here’s another one live golf in ratelade baby I like rade ah never heard that before that’s going to stick the atmosphere is rocking Aussie’s do it the best I agree Jerry I do agree uh I had a great time and those Aussies do know how to party they do they absolutely know how to party and uh and they do it with such good spirit a team that almost stole the show in that first uh team playoff we had how will they be here uh as we enter into our first day in singapor well they’re coming out of that yeah they’re just a solid team top to bottom they want to get that team win again of course every player starts the week focused individually and if they know if they do their job and can contend individually then the team is going to look really good we had two of them contending individually in burmester and usas in last week but the team just came up well it’s essentially one shot short and this is how we look here are the team standings as of right now I know Australia and South Africa have so many sports rivalries rugby Cricket seems like it’s developing now here in Liv golf league would you say it’s good for the sport Jerry oh no it’s not good for it it’s great for it absolutely as these teams develop their identities as these clubs develop their their followings that’s really the whole point of what live brings to the golf uh ecosystem if you will it’s bringing team sport and giving fans that wouldn’t normally be interested in an individual sport something to latch on to and they’re doing it and it’s working and it’s working in very very big numbers and Crushers GC still crushing it at the top there also Legion 13 at the top there uh there goes Bryson to Shambo getting ready for the day I look at those two teams at the top Crushers in Legion Crushers who have played together uh for quite some time now with two Team Championships and Legion a fresh team with two uh Team Championships we’re about halfway through now this thing will these two teams keep it going at the top of this leaderboard which well you have a lot of other teams hot on their heels Brooks kepka not happy with his play not happy with team smash’s play uh we have the Four Aces long been a dynasty well down the actual tables right now on the team standings there’s a lot of there’s a lot of teams that are going to figure into it including tqu who still doesn’t have a win even though they won four times last year and they’re in third what would you say a team like tqu needs to do to rise to the top of the standings it seems like they’re doing everything right already yeah you know when it comes down to the Team champ the team championship each week and four scores counting on Sunday it literally comes down to one or two putts late in the round on Sunday so basically all you can do is do your part and hope that your team does their part as well let’s talk a little bit about smash GC their first and driving accuracy does this team fit this course the best perhaps the best they pop out in the uh in the data they pop out in the analytics as number one crushers number two Stinger number three and believe it or not for a dark dark course this course fits Majestics very very well so they should have a good week but yeah if you look at just the data it should come down to Crushers and smash and that was I’m not going to ask you your Dark Horse yet but you kind of well the yeah the Dark Horse for the team is Majestics absolutely they they’re very good at finding the Fairway they’re really good at long approach shots 80% of the shots into these greens last year was from that mid that mid- approach range 150 to 225 yards and they’re extremely good at that and it’s extreme hot out here uh here’s a picture from c g it’s not that hot people you see the tow over oh it’s hot Jerry it’s not that hot people literally I live in Orlando people come in the middle of August and July in the millions to come to the theme parks that are Outdoors that doesn’t stop them this is exact same weather it’s perfect all right here’s a here’s another I’m going to we’re going to agree to disagree on that Jerry but uh you got to help me with this one am I saying this right let’s have a Lea few days in Singapore did I did I nail it I don’t know I I’ll go with yes Lea I believe that’s a let’s have a wild few days in Singapore that’s the way saying it and here we are it’s absolutely beautiful here it’s Club 54 pre-round show the team playoff got most of the headlines in Adelaide but Brendan steel got his first individual win where did did you finish in Las Vegas I think tied for last or maybe 53rd something like that oh what Say It Isn’t So not a good week you know felt like a big step backwards it just didn’t happen but you know I said to him game’s good just just let it go yeah he has been quietly working his way up the leaderboard was able to come out and and play freely which is what I was really trying to do last week the word was Freedom just let it go because when he does that he plays perfect Man of Steel Steely in first place you have to try to not kind of slow down once you get to the lead that’s always the tendency is to be like hey now you got there now hold on like don’t mess up and it’s like that’s not that’s not the way that you win you have to really step on the gas and keep hitting great shots Brendan steel is playing the round of his live golf life then I missed a short one three puted on 11 win and look at that you know this is just where it gets real instead of letting that kind of drag me down I was able to push forward again and and play with with freedom and and confidence there it is that might be the winning shot for Brendan steel when I saw that ball go near the pin then I thought I think I think we got this one there’s very few great moments like that so when you get it you really have to enjoy it Brendan steel congratulations what a cor we’ve had one win together but it was a long time ago it meant so much to see him get that first win on live to be able to come out with with that big win is really nice for us Brenan still stole that trophy in Adelaide with his best live finish my question to you is Jerry will we see him on the podium more often I I would never put anything past him I’ve been a big believer in him for a long long time ever since I covered him during his old Nike tour days now the corn fairy tour he won three times on tour people forget that he won three times on the PJ tour when they had all the best players in the world they don’t any longer he’s facing a lot of them out here he’s lost in the playoff and he’s won um statistically he had what we call in the in the game a ball striking Clinic last week I mean he was hitting the ball where he was aiming he was shaping it both ways with Comfort his weak point is on the putting greens he actually lost Strokes on the putting greens and won the event last week that’s how far above he was everybody else T green and there was a post from Phil Mickelson when uh when Brendan was asked about Phil and his advice he said I’m 41 years old and I’m getting better and it’s mostly because of Phil um how is it to have a guy like Phil mikkelson on your side you know it’s not only on your side as your captain and a guy who believes in you if you if you pay attention to pH what he does in the away from the camera and away from the course he helps everybody who asks he spent time at home with Caleb serat to teach him a few things as as well as John ROM doing the same thing he spent time with mini tour guys down in San Diego days at a time helping them on their game because they ask because they believe in him he is I mean I know that uh reputation wise things took a hit when when Liv was being formed and when all a sudden done and that’s long long forgotten he will go down as one of the great in Inspirations in the game of golf for the Next Generation wow all right let’s take a look at the individual standings here uh and as we’re looking at uh we were talking about bryndan there how do you think bryndan will do on on this course you know it doesn’t set up well for him because he’s so statistically down in that one main category 150 to 225 but if anybody paid attention last week he was the best in show he was Best in Show in every distance last week I expect him to have a good week burmester is going to have a good week statistically and by the way he’s been playing obviously Neiman and Rah rank right at the top in terms of analytics uh another one that jumps out really really jumps out at you is Paul Casey wow okay I we’ll talk about Paul Casey I wanted to ask you again about John ROM he’s a guy who has been very consistent but still hasn’t had his individual win yeah and that’s not lost on him I mean he wants it so bad I say it every time you ask me he’s an alpha male he wants to be top dog he’s Top Dog every single week without the win John ROM has two things he’s been fighting through what six events now either he has a lull early during one of his first two rounds that really cost him a chance to be at the top of the leaderboard heading in this Sunday or if he is near the top he’s just having trouble finishing it off the last four holes and it’s it’s absolutely an aition because a guy’s as strong as strong as an ox he’s got a will that could plow through a brick wall uh and he’s not afraid of the moment so that’s going to change and I totally believe it’s going to change sounds like you’re saying it’s just a matter of time oh it is just a matter of time yeah and when mean it’s not just he’s going to win he’s going to win multiple times um but I think the one thing I don’t think he underestimated it but the one thing that he’s realized even more now is how tough it is to win out here 54 hole events against this field and Dean burer uh as you said you you you see being someone who will step up here and in Singapore he it’s no secret to the worldwide golf audience outside the US CU he played so limited uh in the US he is an absolute star in the making he is so solid TD green as his confidence grows which it is growing having won twice in South Africa in our offseason back-to-back wins uh that confidence growing to match that game that power that finesse he could be literally one of if there were an actual world ranking um he could be in that top 10 top 20 by the end of the year wow only time will tell uh let’s take a look back at Dean Burma sir check this out the first team playoff in live golf league history two captains of the team select two players I don’t think he was very comfortable making the decision coming off a boy on 18 he kind of came to Jonesy and I and said what do you think I think cam wanted to pick himself and he wanted our blessing in a way picking cam we knew that the issue was going to be get it off the tea yeah I was scratching my head walking off the 18 tea on that first playoff hole after I just hooked it about 50 minutes left that was a poor shot from cam Smith and he’s not happy that’s exactly what he had to do and couldn’t get enough on it huge advantage to the South Africans now yeah well if either Louie or Dean can hold one of these that should do it I thought one of them was definitely making the part to Louie if he can roll this in Stinger will be victorious if there was ever a guy I would back to make 10-footer for the winner would be Lou Who stays it Louie golly that’s well amazing alive neither gim here obviously I had to make it but if I’m not going to make it I’m probably going to have to start running because there’ll be a few people after me in the center I’ve never heard anything that loud ever I wanted to go over in high five leash but I’ve got a 4 footer to make as well I don’t he had a four fotter that felt quite like this [Applause] one we go again I think I said the cam on the way back I’m like how the hell did we get out of that one yeah well this is our chance now I don’t know how we got out of that but that’s already a win for us the fact that we’ve got you know another hole to play unbelievable playoff series there uh I remember seeing so many fans on top of the Production Studio that you were recording from at the time they were on top of our booth I thought they might fall through but for cam Smith to say the loudest noise he’s ever heard he won a Players Championship those are enormous crowds he won the Open Championship at St Andrews those are enormous crowds of course they were all rooting for Rory but he won and he got and obviously they’re very respectful but to have that to have him state that I mean it was just it was huge they never should have gone to the second hole but they ended up figuring out a way to claw their way back go to that second hole and ultimately win and and you know what you don’t hear cheering for a Miss shot in golf anywhere except for the Ridder cup maybe a little bit at the President’s Cup certainly at the solheim cup now you get to hear it every time we play when there’s teams involved that’s going to continue to grow that’s going to develop that loyalty to the teams and that’s going to make it a lot of fun now we’re here in Singapore a lot of high-profile tournaments that happen here I want to talk a little bit about this course and some other maybe contenders that line up well here maybe a guy like charl us haasen I know you mentioned Paul Casey as well Casey jumps out usy usy he jumps out on all the analytics as well obviously Rah and Neiman rank up there and everything because they’ve had such consistently good Seasons but Paul Casey is the one that I mean he last time he jumped out in the analytics he lost in a playoff in Hong Kong and he does that again this week with every single statistical category that’s relevant based on last year’s performance I know the weather can be a little tricky here Jerry uh talk about the conditions and here’s Paul Casey Str stats approach medium 80% of the shots played into these greens outside the par 3s last year was in that 150 to 225 he is first not shown there green in regulation he is third that’s also one of the huge analytics this week he’s just solid from T to Green always has been uh sometimes he’s His Own Worst Enemy on the course but when he’s hitting it well which he has been of late he’s actually a delight to watch and a delight to play with who would you say is your Dark Horse oh individual I love the dark now this one’s out there and he’s also one of my favorite people there are some analytics that lead us so-called experts to believe that Pat Perez has a good week not saying he’s going to win but he finishes above his League average I guarantee it wow Jerry I want to thank you I’m I’m starting to get really sweaty here and looks like you are too a little bit I don’t sweat I’m kidding I know you got to go to the main show so thanks for joining us more to a beautiful view out the back of the box here and David Adelaide last week was absolutely incredible the the quality of the golf the the crowds on show it was a memorable competition the golf course here in santosa is a very different challenge isn’t it it sure is it’s about 500 yards longer and last week you know it was a it was a short fast Golf Course where the fairways were hard to hit this is a long slow Golf Course where the fairways are easy to hit it’s going to be a second Shot Golf Course and it’s going to favor the longer players yeah well I thought the uh the blue shirt was a brave move in this sultry heat Christian hope it’s surviving okay we’ll take it from you at the top of the hour thank you Arlo and David looking forward to it this is Club 54 for pre-round show a year ago the live golf league came to Singapore and the and Taylor G won his second straight individual title but it wasn’t easy Taylor gu attempting to go back to back the first consecutive winner what really made Singapore cool it was a much different week than ad was it took me a day or two to kind of you know come off of the high and you know everything from Adelaide I just wasn’t as sharp then I I made a bunch of putts Take the Lead oh yes Taylor is in Majestic form the greens are just insanely great some of the best condition in Greens I’ve ever been on if not the best it’s obviously super excited to be you know back here in Sosa try to defend another tournament Tor history maker it’s been a road trip he will never forget this golf course is great and it separates you know guys that are playing well from the guys who aren’t playing well it’s you got to golf your ball this week and so hopefully we can uh go play some great golf there [Music] again all right every single show you know I’d be sweating because of the heat but it started raining here but we’re going to sweep in straight away with High Flyers Brandon still won last week now I spoke with his coach Rick Smith and I want you to get a close up Glen of his grip he’s got the very strong lead rest let’s have a little look very strong lead rest he said they’ve been working on the drawer they found something at Dural there it is and they’re keeping the knuckles through the sky throughout the shot oh it’s beautiful and Rex Smith also his coach said that they’ve been working on his alignment as we know with all these players it is so key here we go Ogle tree just having a little warm up played really well last week third his caddy Michael said he’s one to watch this week so that was a betting lady I would definitely be looking at that Glenn let keep going Blandy a guy I always like pointing out because he doesn’t miss a shot he’s leading in Greens and R something very important this week let’s see him stripe one kimer also had a very good week last week oh it’s beautiful these guys do not miss Stenson playing well Majestics looking for a charge here are the stingers is Mr burm off the back of a win and a third last week he cannot miss he’s striking it so well they’re loving the heat I always look for his caddy but he runs away from me there he is he’s getting his caddy mic on Glenn can you get Brook’s cap cars his birthday today he’s busy warming up let me Gra quickly how’s the birthday boy um not too sure yet we’ll find out I told him to throw him in a couple of good clubs today for his birthday you’re very kind to him yeah very kind no charge I I love how Ricky just went I’m going to grab you and he went no oh right we’ll keep going the Rippers I think they need the Heat this week Sammy come here how’s the team recovering are they ready for another you know after the win I fully recovered ready to go again so no problems at all professionals here yeah is the sweat helping the alcohol leave the PA it it did the first few days for sure I’ll leave you good luck right I actually want to run quick hello Hugo hello right I’m going to run quick to find Casey cuz he shot a 63 in the final round I hope he’s still warming up if you don’t know Casey Only Hits 50 balls every warmup and he literally goes through this routine every tournament here we go he’s finishing on the driver I think I’ve just Square Casey hello 60 63 final round last year I’m giving you the Good Vibes you did what is the key to playing well around here well the rough’s thicker this year than it was last year you have to be in the Fairway um there’s just you’re not going to get any spin or any flight control out the rough this week um greens down grain get really fast so trying to control that golf ball on the coming in on a pro shop Fairways a premium um apart from that really grainy green and you can see the grain cuz if you’ve got good eyes you can see the shiny down grain or the the dark into the grain um and it plays a lot of that has a lot of effect on the PS um and then when you’re really pissed off after shooting really two bad rounds of golf then you shoot 63 on the weekend so maybe maybe that’s the key I’m giving you the Good Vibes Johnny you got your work out this week read those greens well right range goats won last year warming up behind me it is the midseason Midway in the tournament so it’s going to be a close one people and the pressure is mounting let’s see how the players get on today big thank you Rachel uh that was amazing and happy birthday Brooks all right let’s check in with suan and Don for what to watch for soan you and I have played the seron course many times we know it’s a big long golf course but the players don’t hit that many drivers only four or five around so they’re going to leave themselves a lot of long approaches you got to be really sharp with your irons if you’re not you’re going to leave yourself a lot of long long putts on these rather large greens yeah Dom absolutely I think one of the features here at santosa golf club are the greens and on an average they’re about 45 Paces long multiple sections you got to be so accurate with your irons but unlike most courses here in Asia these greens are so pure and they don’t play as grainy as most of the other greens here in Asia lag putting is going to be the second key to success out here because if you really don’t get your paste right you’re going to leave yourself with some seven eight Footers and those are pretty tough to make out here big thanks to you too we
