[Music] hello welcome to unloaded this week’s show with John Barkley and Stephen Ferris now we’re gonna get through a lot of rugby AC but first the biggest news coming out of the world of rugby is Steven ferrah his wife is pregnant very much great news much shs thank you very much yes SE who who’s the father is what I want to know it when we find him Stevie you getting that I’m gonna shake his hand oh no we’re obviously joking thanks very much Lads congratulations you didn’t tell us you wanted to leave it and announce it on social media like no I think text when you when you were looking for a couple of photos of me on holiday but um yeah no looking forward to it number two I need to do a bit of catching up John’s three have you three as well Shanks three each mate yeah yeah yeah what say good luck mate one to two gameer two’s easy Three’s a nightmare don’t have three now we could chat um amongst ourselves for a little bit but we’ve got a new segment in this show where um I’m the host this week and we get a lookalike on um that resembles the host um which is me today so I’d like to welcome head hono of stor Robby John Dobson hey mate if me you and Sterling Morlock in a room wow say lock up lock up your moms you know the lot we are carving up how are you John I’m good thanks very much thanks for having me on you guys are informed tonight informed thanks for coming back on you I think you’re our most regular guest so must preparing you well SL nothing at all now um we get into a little bit of rugby now Big Win For You at the weekend um after the Ospreys result and obviously how the table’s moving and how you everyone’s looking for places for the playoff how big was it for you to start well the game because after the first kickoff I thought oh no yeah looks I know I know I know our analysts um his MacBook is waterproof because after man had done the first kick and then uh then kick the penalty straight out from that scrum or didn’t kick it out sorry the water bottle went across the room and exploded so that I thought because I thought we were going down the same Vortex we get it against ospr listen I know we know what lster team it was but they never weak and they always well organized but it was for us it was a massively pressur game to go from hosting pretty much every um or everything we could have hosted in the first two urc’s to after the OS seeing the chance of Hosting anything very remote and chance of not finishing the top eight well yeah hav been in two for been disastrous AUST F was was a really bad moment it’s our lowest point in the history of things so we just needed a win last week against LST and I was pretty pleased with the way we did it I know which lster team it was but was still a good performance I think was there a big emphasis John on just starting big and the key areas like scoring before halftime scoring after halftime which is seemed to nail and you you know you got 30 points up and it was it was really in the bag by that we got um we’ve got a brain dead kicking coach so works well with mon Li liok he was giving guy called GTH right he was telling he was telling the team we have to be up at halftime and then we have to score after halim and we need to be up in the last five minutes you which I thought was quite technically brilliant you know nailed it you absolutely nailed it so that’s why it works well with man but no listen the plan it’s it’s actually developing to quite a nice thing the Irish sort of Machinery the the the leners and the moners and the way they play and the South African way of trying to play at the same at International level that we got to physically be in their faces to stop the multiphase and that um so that was our big EMP was just the the Old South African default that you pull out of your pocket of some physicality some brutality to try and stop stop the multiphase system and for once we went we went for scoreboard pressure you know CU not usually our DNA we normally go to the corner and try and play so we know we were 30 n up I think with only two tries which is very unlike us but then it helped it helped us in the end our most important thing was to win and stay alive in the competition Doo there’s a there’s a a vicious rumor floating around olster Belfast that certain John Dobson was out having dinner with stepen ksof uh the week before he and moved home were you the deal breaker that got him back to C time it was me um I can’t I can’t deny a few beers earlier in the week come on KY come on KY yeah I you know what I actually feel a bit I feel a bit sorry for Stephen and I tell you why don’t feel sorry for the amount of money he got look it was a good conversation with ster aler were going through as you know some re rejigging uh from on various levels coaching and the chief executive and I think kitsy does cost a lot of money but um I I I I I do think it’s slightly unfair if he gets compared with a SN we call a in terms of game time A’s had a injuries kitsy it wasn’t Kit’s idea to come home that’s the truth you know um he didn’t sniff around um I I I did have a few beers and I gave him a tequila and said listen Steve if you ever and he said yeah well I’ve got two years to go and I said no no no if you ever because I knew that oler was sort of vaguely interested so um yeah I would say the Brandon was a really poor signing would be tough on Steven now you know he he’s he’s a good kid um not quite the RG sort of three games every five years sort of thing you know I don’t think yeah maybe just the wrong wrong place at the wrong time or the right place at the wrong time um I was gonna ask you Doo um there’s been a little bit of stuff in the in the week um and I’m just thinking about this sort of Irish South African rivalry you’ve seen it across uh the URC with the bulls anden yourselves as well um was any of that spoken about this week the stuff that had come out sort of postor Cup pool match uh that kind of feeling that the Irish something certainly getting ahead of themselves um it’s becoming a thing in look you you saw Ian and stuff this week it’s becoming a thing in um in South Africa that this this sort of rivalry with the Irish um they think you know there’s a theory amongst I don’t how much of chasing the Sun you’ve seen if any but amongst the players international players and even at you know USC level that the the Irish are the new sort of new zealanders if you know in our in our Super Rugby what I mean by that obviously they’re very good teams uh uh but they they know the sort of the system the shortcuts you know the the little tricks lensa scored a very good try against us on Saturday where they were lying on the two guys who would have been defending on that side of the previous breakdown you know when they came on a tap they came on the other so the number eight scored on the other side so there’s a there is this Irish it is building and if you’ve seen Chasing the Sun I don’t know how much you’ve seen but there’s a very powerful scene where Russy standing there and zombies being sung and they just lost the pool game and you can see that this is deeply etched in the South African psyche so and then you’ve got you know the bull us playing Monster Monster beating us in the final last year lster beat knocking sorry Bulls locking ler out in year one it’s it’s it’s becoming U oler and us have had some incredible battles um you know we won in the last second and that so that’s becoming like the Irish and South African thing in the USC level and at National level the series coming up is becoming a really big piece in South African rugby you know New Zealand’s almost parked now because we don’t play them often and no it’s Ireland’s the big thing dble just a quick one maybe you could give us an Insight on the New Consortium that’s taken over at the stormers and on what sort of stability have they brought to the C Club because when you entered the URC there was so much vulnerability about the storm and and you know what direction they were going on and the ownership and there were so many question marks even when I know chatted to some of the former South African players that they didn’t really know what was in the future for the stormers but now there seems to be some concrete in those foundations and can you elaborate a little bit on that yeah I mean the horrible thing is that as they’ve come in the results have got worse you know uh because we were you made made the fun funny is that first tour we did in the first USC tour in in Autumn of 2021 we had three days in sorry two days in a row three McDonald’s a day which is fine one in Hangover but jaav it his three meals a day is you can do it that’s his diet but soup for dinner that’s it it’s actually got look it’s it’s quite interesting because it’s a it’s a Consortium I I was I sort of went to the one South African businessman at the start who’s a local bank um who sort of deal for the sort of the lower element of the of the market the the lower income and the consult is 50% Irish now which is bizarre it’s I think called arog which is a GU po kson who’s had connection with lster and actually the guy on the board is MC Dawson who ran lenser rugby for a long time so it’s a it’s a it’s it’s half our dog this Irish um bottling building sort of bottling plants in the Western Cape half this sort of I say low income bank and and their their model for us is we’re not going to be galacticos we’re not going the Sharks and Bulls thing of you bringing of of signing of these big players are it’s just to make us sustainable and so it’s sort of like a gift for the people of the Western Cape which is I think it’s curious because there’s no there’s no ego um there’s no splash and uh thing but there’s also you know trying to trying to sort of cut our cloth to suit our size and it’s it’s so it’s I think it’s it’s unusual model in in sports ownership they’re not trying to make money but they don’t want to lose money um but they’re giving us massive stability so now to have you know there hasn’t been a director rugby there hasn’t been a chief executive for what five years there hasn’t been a board there were we were in administration we were in liquidation where when we last had an executive five of them were suing each other in the high court so it’s a it’s a much different world now now people are talking about plans and marketing and we’re doing things like budgets and we never had that before so it’s a really exciting time for us um yeah for us to have the security I think the problem is no way for me to hide anymore now because now we got stability so I can’t don’t make the quarterfinals I won’t be on the show next next time you’ll be you’ll be fine though just in terms of I think you were our first guest year one with uh with the URC just almost three years in now um you seen the crowds pick up obviously Bulls are right up the top yourselves are pushing top four looks like the sharks are are improving just can you give us a sense because we don’t get a lot of the same media we we obvious get a lot Irish Welsh Scottish media in terms of this sort of feeling within the Le can you give us an insight into the sort of support it’s getting in South Africa yeah I mean you you guys are close to um what happened with the bulls in that quarterfinal of the of the epcr of the invested cup so the USC is significantly more advanced in South Africa um it might be the extra year I think uh that um that that the extra year obviously just naturally has helped but I think the the the URC with with interestingly local der’s killed Super Rugby um when we started in those crazy conference systems and uh but it’s it’s really worked here you know we played a full at a packed we’ve got a hiding in a pack Petoria in March you know we getting um for lster a or b sorry what I don’t you call it ler this lster second choice team we had 24,000 in um without any problem on on a horrible time 7 o’clock in Cape Town this time of year is terrible and so it’s the U is really Landing here now the rivalries I think what’s also useful uh sh sh something personal but the the the Scottish you know the Glasgow are a Power Team by any budget or or stress and and the Irish rivalries are really developing and you know and I say I wouldn’t not despar on the W because the ospry beat us but it’s the people understand it now they know what an ospry is they didn’t know what an osprey was two years ago osprey’s a came and beaten the stormers in Cape Town so we can feel the momentum Galloping much faster in this in in this in this tournament now you know we could end up Fifth go to lofter in the fourth it’ll be absolutely jammed if that gamees in whatever quarterfinal if we made a home one which is you Venus will have to align with Uranus and Mars and all that stuff if we did it it would it would it would be sold out and that and that’s it’s just brilliant it’s just Gathering massive the South African links every website News website in South Africa I’m talking about sport will have a URC guide on the front page of everything you know news 24 netf 24 so iol there’ll be a us USC update it’s it’s it’s really landed really well that people are much sorry I’m giving you a long answer much preferring this to Super Rugby I think they find it more understandable obviously the the cliches of the time zone now we getting other teams and there some proper games you know you’ve got um dragons and conop Away um Doo and lions at home what do you think you need from those three games 10 points eight points I mean want to try finish up as high as you can yeah we get obviously want to win all three but K is a tough place to play uh tough place to go as a coach because you can’t stand in the hotel in that place you’ve got to get H uh but it’s a it’s um it’s it’s a it’s it’s we need we need I think two of the three we should be safe uh I don’t think we got a chance of hosting one the Bulls would have to lose two games I think the Curious one is where lster is going to finish because they’ve got some tough games and they’ve got to balance what amazingly this amazing European side that’s interesting that Linder could give up what was always a certainty in the URC if they finish top if they won their playoff that’d have a home final we need we need to win two I think to be safe we need three to have that remote chance of a home court but I’m not banking on that and then actually might be good for us to go away you know we’ played everyone at home I’m not I’m trying to tell our two owners it’s a good experience for us to go play away playoff but I genely think it might be because our way record up north is really poor that’s where South African teams or us in particular have to improve just before we let you go Doo Warren glance try the weekend one of the best I’ve seen little word little word on him how we see some amazing stuff from him we see some um mistakes from him but you don’t want to take that out of his game because that was what I think that was the best DW the weekend yeah his nickname has the his nickname’s the the boogeyman listen hard guarded coach I give one of my I give one of my team talks you know or some history lesson about the boys in the boat or some guy without a head who want a triathon and this guy looks like he’s actually it looks to be like a mad or some Greek myth myology and he just shuts down but he he can make some magic on the field and that’s why that’s why we got him back you know he helped us win the UFC one but the start of the Season everything was going wrong for him people say you’re mad and then you get this and it’s sort of yeah he sort of he’s a little bit like Damen vills in like in his skill set and how good he is very his medal that’s our Damon Willams 24 won two World Cup but that’s our problem often with the stormers this season is how we’ve try to fit both on the field you know which is tricky because I think daman’s one of the best 15s in the world but as you say you get that you know as a coach you you you’re in trouble and then War goes and scores you know and you feel like a good coach but it’s just that you got have him on the field he magic well look thanks so much for coming on we’ll let you go now just so you know Stevie’s not at his Nan’s house or his grandpa’s house um he is actually on holiday and he’s probably had 10 points so he’s done a pretty good job staying sober 11 good luck good luck we hope a great guy we say the same every time yeah he comes favorite guest it’s just so refreshing like he’s just so honest how could it be if we did a if we did a show in Dublin and he was a guest I’d make sure I got the lake flight home the next day yeah yeah bet I bet he’s I bet he’s great fun good night yeah it is honestly it’s weird how much he looks like me easily be my father right um thanks to John Dobson for coming on and sharing a little bit of insight into what RB’s like in South Africa and how the stormers are doing we’ll get on to the rugby action now from the weekend first game up aler 38 Benetton 34 Stephie did you watch it or you seen the game no I didn’t watch it live but I’ve seen the highlights of the match um and yeah like we were CL an attack really really CL I’m saying we that’s a p of mine also really really clinical and attack but got off their horrendous start was it manello get over for the first try for H for Benetton it was it was a brilliant night rby in terms of um you know the dve ball John Cooney was electric um set up a couple of tries was emphatic with the the boot and kicked all his points um and he just looks like he’s playing with a bit of Freedom actually r a column Richie Murphy’s told him that he wants him to run a lot more with the ball get himself involved in games a lot more so we started to see that a little bit the Kings fan all count is rocking as well 10 tries on show but you know this is Benetton away from home and we gifted him in the 80th minute another bonus point you know so they they left with two bonus points they’re on 44 I think Shanks you know yeah it’s really really tight and and that’ll sting them a little bit but oler have got lster at home or Scarlet’s away first ler at home and monster away yeah so it’s it’s going to be so so tight it’s going to be so tight but they look brilliant in attack especially with stock deal bacon Arison at 13 um the scrum got pumped a little bit their line out was wasn’t or their lineup was okay their scrum wasn’t great 75% I think um tackles made so you know they really need to work on that if they’re going to you know challenge in a quarterfinal of the URC which is most likely going to be away from home however it’s a big win five points and you know that’s back-to-back wins which is great I think anyone sort of mid-table um from fifth to 11th would I just hop in that no teams pick up losing bonus points because that changes the dynamic completely that it was in the 80th minute wasn’t they got the second losing bonus Point finishing within seven I was watching some of the scenes after Stevie on the match and it do you know what was good it looked like the players had a real connection with the fans after after that game because there has been a lot of negativity with ala um you know with losing CEO losing coach but the players signing autographs after walking around it was a lovely day and it’s just nice to see that they connect with the Ala supporters because it’s been a bit of a tough year for them yeah no it has um I think I think over the last year Shanks that fans have turned up and the players not necessarily haven’t put in a shift because they always try and put in a shift there’s not a lack of of energy or you know determination every time they take the pitch but there’s maybe been a lack of respect towards the fans after games where they’ve stood in the wet pissing rain for three hours and you know say oler get beaten at home by Edinburgh and the boys just disappeared down the tunnel or whatever I’m not saying that that did happen but there’s all that that’s what we’re talking about the disconnect you know and to see that happening after the game like they might you know AAR are putting up on their social media all the Selfies that fans are repost in on their social media it’s brilliant to see and it enhances the brand as well like you know as a business so um yeah no it was a great night for AER rby and if they can fix up their defense you know hopefully they can go a bit further in this competition yeah I think they will um Cardiff 7 Edinburgh 24 um Edinburgh John just 10 wins same as the mster same as the Bulls one less than lster you know but what are they sitting like nearly 10th on or ninth in the moment but a decent performance from them because you still were to go to an ined Cardiff team and win yeah I mean I I think it’s kind it was almost a bit old older version of Edinburgh they I think they looking at the game they dominated Cardiff up front um you know most of the tries in all were tight quarters pick and go um which is I think probably a nod to they’re not quite sure how they’re trying to attack at the moment but also we saw a few weeks ago against Scarlets when when they can be disciplined and when they can their defense is still an issue I think although they didn’t concede many this week they’ve actually got a handy pack and you know Schuman and Y Ashman they put out a really strong team uh because they have I mean all teams have to M don’t they this at this point of the season so yeah I just think Edinburgh are ticking along aren’t they they’re just ticking along they’re doing yeah a little bit I mean I I don’t think like maybe some as also I don’t think they’ll they’d have to have a huge game to win a quarterfinal away from home um I just think yeah I think that’s maybe where they are this year and it sounds maybe sounds a bit harsh but you know they’ve got to try and improve their attack they got to improve certain parts of their defense as well but like they’re in terms of results and stuff they’re they’re sitting pretty decent at the moment yeah they are Cardiff made nearly 250 tackles to edinburgh’s 100 so that tells you how the game was played all tries were scored by front rowers so again tells you it wasn’t overly expansive carer struggled um line up M time Ender defended it really well um and hen made an amazing tackle just before halftime a spot Blitz um off a turnover ball which would have been a try just key moments like that they won but they were far more physical John they were they dominated that those collisions like bringing someone like m Off the Bench yeah is massive mate it’s huge you were calling for a red card for danan oh you listen did you you watched oh I listen I listen all the time no I called the red card when it happened because initially it looked like he took he took um Theo kabango head off yeah that I think it he just dropped didn’t he kabango literally Dro but I think probably yellow was the right call but um couple of nice breaks from danan Vander mura certainly gets him on the front foot there’s a nice race as well between him and Mason Grady anyone else Mason Grady would have scored that try but he’s up against someone of the same power and pace and dang got him just down but yeah another try from ree carry but won’t make a difference into him getting in the well Squad uh Lions monster now we I thought after Lions big performance against ler yeah I expected them to be a little bit better than they were Stevie yeah so did I I think we all went for a bit of a a Lions win didn’t happen this didn’t happen monster correct me if I’m wrong um Ben our producer but I think that’s five four wins in a draw for monster in South Africa and their last five games so like certainly the last two games they got 10 points so they got 10 points in in their trip there which is incredible yeah yeah and they looked like a different animal I thought Shan O’Brien was brilliant at 12 I know he’s played in the back three All Season predominantly on the wing but Simon zeu Class Act this would have been probably the try of the season if he hadn’t been tripped up what do you reckon do you reckon if if he had have got that down it would have been the try the season no he’s he’s milked it but Evan ruse against better did you see ev yellow c a yellow card but yeah it wasn’t that good see no he’s gone down like Sergio Ramos yeah yeah he really he really went for it didn’t he they let the arms come up in the air I think moner play against the Lions like if you if it’s loose and up altitude and you’re hanging but they they managed to control the game they were physic front them more was good I think that that’s the way over there just don’t don’t play loose um yeah monster got the edge over the sappa teams at the moment for sure I’m not sure the Li are going to be able to get through they they’re currently on 39 points and they’ve got Cardiff home glass go home storm is away um so I’m not sure that’s going to be enough to get through I mean I don’t think even n 10 points out of that chanks 10 points out of that I think it’s gonna be enough no I I think in 49 maybe 50 is going to be the bare minimum probably 50 with with everything going on so it’s going to be a tough but hey just like last year monster peing at the right times yeah just B to six wins in a row in the URC 29 Points out of a possible 30 for Monster so they’re absolutely flying flying um couple of big names back as well snyman and tag burn in the second round that there’s a child for those listen in John’s office get rid of him John he’s going to play golf that’s why he’s going to go hit some ball evening monster I’ve got Conor and oler at home and Edinburgh away so you you like they’ll be G for a home quarterfinal absolutely G him for a home quarterfinal definitely that’s the key isn’t it we saw that last year uh Bulls 61 ospray 24 um yeah I mean welcome back to reality Ospreys a little bit like that dominated Again by by pace and power um some really nice try I mean the surface was absolutely perfect to play on and Arona was just carving up um tries from Moody I’m sure creel as well and you know we didn’t expect the Ospreys really to score um many points in their tour out there and they scored um was uh they score a winning bonus last week against the stormers well they certainly won so it’s either four or five drives but the key was the were they were 1910 at the balls just after halftime and REE Henry throws an intercept which Creo gets hold of and they end up scoring Moody scores and that was a huge turning point in the game because they well in the game then and then it was just the Bulls just ran Riot and the osc didn’t really have anything to come back with so I think they’ll be pretty happy with what they’ve done and the win out there move on and I think they’re going to have to hope a few results fall their way because they’ve got who have they got next they’ve got lent raway which is going to be tough they’ve got dragons at home at home now I think if the ospr can get 10 points that gets them to 50 which might be enough to get into the quarterfinals um I think I think Shanks is g to be beniton olster Edinburgh and ospr for like one spot I’m not sure bennetton because they’ve got to go to sharks and Bulls away and edra at home and they’re on 44 and I’m not sure any of those three are possible to so tight yeah it is so tight it is very tight I mean at the moment you wouldn’t necessarily think benett are going to beat sharks and Bulls away in South Africa are you I I I wouldn’t say so they’re not a great team away from home they’re good at home no which means they got Edinburgh last game so a lot of it is going to come down to last game of the season which is what we want which makes it exciting no dead rubber anymore apart from if you’re if you’re a Welsh team or Zeb because it’s all we’ve just got the well Shield that’s all we got our our sharks here are playing all right yeah who’ve come good late um stormers lener um we spoke to Dober a fair bit about it Stevie ler yeah two games now well beaten 44 points against the Lions 42 points ja neber getting all the credit like for how good defense was against uh L shell and so far coming into the job in the league um but you know they they got dominated Ruck Penny Dean in the back row experience a lot of minutes um under their belt this season and in previous Seasons a bit more experience but when they were what 23 nil done halftime and you just looked at the lster bench and you were like absolutely no chance that’s it game’s dead and buried uh it was over and it was an inexperienced side especially with Sam Pras at 10 who didn’t he didn’t play particularly well um couldn’t Marshall’s trips around the pitch and yeah they were on the back foot and this is this is a startat that I that I plucked out and it could be wrong it could be wrong if it is wrong it might only be a little bit wrong but lancer’s tackle success in the game was 54% 54% in the game mad absolutely Madness so um yeah they need to sort that out and we we know it’s going to be a completely different team that’s running out against Northampton and 82300 people cro Park uh this Saturday but um it’s going to have to be a different team that we see in the URC for the last couple of weeks or else as you know Doo said they be fighting for yeah a fourth fifth place uh if they don’t buck up their ideas but not unbelievable I think you got to give credit to the stormers very clinical really well drilled and yeah you know they put the hammer down after the halftime that’s the difference isn’t it with storm like double touched in it just like they’re they’ve been in the cycle of just you know turnovers off FL to floor I can’t remember which game I did it was like it was maddening to watch just consist game oh we we we did the ster game we did we did a double header and were and they were so bad then that looks like that’s the woring thing when the stormers are good like when they sounds when they’re good they’re I mean they’re they’re going to be hard if they can sort of trend at the right time get that if they got Bulls stormers that’ be M be unbelievable G only thing I say with the stormers they can’t get spooked yeah you’re right when when they’re on they’re absolutely on and they can easily be the best team in the league but when they’re spooked they start flying off their feet balls start going down they try the miracle passes they don’t always work but you’re right though when they’re on fire mate good luck that’s thing if you look if you look that team at the the table of the people below four fourth you don’t want to play stormers you know that’s the one team you’re thinking [ __ ] like this is the one team we don’t want to see till later on because if they get it right we could be out quarters and we’re not expecting that yeah I think other teams the other teams just he’s just left the screen and he’s having a quick P quick sip of his Pina clada um yeah you’re right because a lot of the other teams don’t win many games away from home nor does not the storms one but they they are dangerous that’s for sure um zebra glazo big start for zebra I think they went six n up couple of penalties but you just had a sense didn’t you John that Glasgow were going to come back too strong pick too good a team too powerful too well drilled yeah I think so and Ze missed a few kicks at start of the game and they could have you know could have been 912 up um they were slow to start last week as well they quite last bit slow second there kind of playing in in Spells at the moment but they made a they made a few changes um Jimmy Doby was Ross Thompson they shifted up which which which Franco Smith doesn’t do a lot if you’re honest the guys come straight back and they play and and it seems to work for them but they left enough in there from a exper I’m just the team now Tu PLU was playing stain was playing McDow maai so they left a lot of their starting back three back five players uh and they just too good in the end like when when it opens up um they’re I think they’ve got such good skill level they’re super fit by all accounts in terms of Frank was excellent as well I think he’s the kind of player that I think just so underrated just gets through so much work he’s physical low error count just works his ass off so yeah also players like Darcy grahe and random m in terms of Scotland get a lot of the headlines yeah he doesn’t get many compared to those guys um yeah I think the top of the table um we ched before we came on know ler slipped up a bit who’s who’s glasgow’s running actually it’s not they got zebra in the last game they got who have they got to come oh because they could end up potentially it’s a long way to go but I think home quarter home semi and they’re talking about putting it murfield the home final if they get to it yeah so Glasgow running is um balls away lies away they got home yeah maybe yeah that’s going to be hard to keep top spot then well what we’ve seen though it can be done by teams I think we’re see we’re seeing a lot more competitive rugby out in South Africa when you think of the first year maybe a little bit in the second year you know there weren’t many wins at all but I think now teams are playing against South Africa teams a lot more they’re understanding how how to beat them how to take them apart so there’s a chance John there’s a chance you’re telling me there’s a chance um we’ll move on then to dragons Conor now Dragon start the game pretty poorly kicks out in the full rodri Williams um Kai Evans just really not managing any territory that well and was a good start from Conor um but I suppose the biggest talking point of the game was I believe it was 27 all it might have been 20 all um and a red card to Ben Carter now I don’t know if youve boys have seen it it’s I think it might be Jennings comes back in Cuts back in and literally runs straight into benard’s shoulder like it’s it’s one of those I I think situations where what do the defender Mana do like hopefully we’re gonna we’re going to see it for those at home you have to Google it rewatch the show but it was such a big moment because the dragons clawed their way back in after a really good start by Conor Roger Williams SC to try Steph Hugh got a really nice try off the lineup Conor went back to the driving Mall um just try to take on the dragons physically um but it was the talking point and for me I when when when a player can’t move or a player has no option then should it be a red card so do you think Shanks that do you think that it would have that it did affect the outcome of the game yeah it did um yeah because it was 20 minutes ago or 10 minutes ago when the scores are level 27 all so it was 10 minutes ago 27 all it red card and when he slow it down like the Collision isn’t great and we’re trying to get away from herir collisions I get that but Jennings has run straight into him he hasn’t even looked where he’s going he’s run straight into Ben car who’s just stood still and he’s there’s no momentum forward CH from Carter really is there just stood there I just think what are you me to do in those situations because compare compared to Luke mcra yellow card against the Bulls where he’s drun 50 yards and ends up yellow and that’s that’s the thing what people get upset with you’re like well actually it’s a it’s at the line he’s he’s not he’s not really like you say he’s got nowhere to go no um I I I personally think they they should both be red cards I think the second one is is harsh but it’s just maybe yeah maybe you’re right sh maybe I’m s talking myself around here you can’t do anything about it so what’s where’s he meant to go what’s he meant to do you don’t run around on your do you you think it’s a penalty Ste it’s a penalty I think it’s just a penalty yeah it’s aen be a red card has it not why well why is it penalty because there is a little bit of danger to it but I don’t I don’t believe there’s a red it’s a red card danger offense like new okay so the all right so the midd factor is that he he doesn’t he doesn’t yeah yeah yeah yeah I think it’s just I think his play his play he’s run straight he’s run straight into his shoulder he’s not even looked where he’s going there’s got to be emphasis on the ball carrier everything at the moment is all geared around the defender no one ever questions what the ball carrier is doing so if I hold my fist out like this you know the reason for that it you know the reason for that is to get the tackler to be lower yeah but you can’t not every tackle is goingon to be low like I I I I understand that but if you if you yeah changing direction you can’t be low down you got to be upright and if someone runs into your shoulder I’m sorry there has to be emphasis on ball carry looking where he’s going but probably get ham for that now watching I’ve been watching Jimmy Graham I’ve been watching Jimmy Graham on um on um n uh NRL you watch that little segment on it’s brilliant it’s brilliant he’s rugby league um from I think he was in Helens he’s going across them JS do you reckon Conor do you reckon Connor have enough to squeeze into the top Conor are currently on 44 points um so if we’re saying 50 51 is going to be the minimum you need um they’ve got moner away storm is home lener away I don’t think they got enough no no no no yeah it’s too like there’s the only chance I think they’ve got of a win there would be Storm’s home I don’t think they’re going to get anything moner away lster away so little bit too tight now Scarlets sharks 2734 now John last week you mentioned that it was a good game for the Scarlets against Edinburgh because they got something to work on again same with this game yeah I agree I think are are much better and we’ve always said this and we said every single week for 15 weeks you know how are where they are on the table but they’ve won four five including um Europe they’ve won probably five or six in a row and they’ve got the guys coming back so yeah I just think like I again I don’t want to get to down on Scarlets they’ve lost two in a row but there’s more in them and time of the year when they could just say you know what that The Season’s done we’re not going to qualify they they they’ve got a bit of fight in them so think the big players I said it last week big players are stepping up and Johny Williams was excellent of the weekend his carrying game his defensive game was huge it was really really good to see yoan Nicholas score a try hasn’t scored in nearly five years um so he goes over for a try ends that drought but a couple of things stood out for me was maias scores then they lose the kickoff they knock it on they lose the line out then five meters out and then a couple of Crossfield kicks um for Verna to score um you know in terms of the Sharks it was a [ __ ] Fest because Vera scores three Vincent scores one um but they just left themselves a little bit short they left themselves a little bit short on the Crossfield kick and I think aot you waited all show to say that they could do they could do a lot better on the Crossfield kicks Tommy Lewis loses it on the first Verno [ __ ] TR yoan Nicholas loses it on the second when your back’s turned on those Crossfield kicks you got no idea where the ball is you know and more often or not that will end up in a try because you just lose it in the air so um was a much better performance by Scarlet if they carry if they played like that all year round they wouldn’t be down right down the bottom of the table they’d be a lot better so um positivity coming out of the camp at last because they’ve had some horrific losses um and that is it that is the rugby done done and dusted a lot to get through there an exciting an exciting weekend of rugby action lots of tries which is exactly what we want don’t we um Now we move on on to our next little segment rant of the week um I got one rant and that is pundits going away during the middle of the Season shouldn’t be allowed your job is to cover games yeah don’t know you taking a sabatical after moski has owned you at least I at least I turn up like when he just doesn’t bother coming on singap Singapore well that’s your fault go somewhere further you lanzerotti go somewhere nice L karate I’m on St had a tough one I’ve had my flights move for first I’m going holiday in June and the flights got moved so I’m actually not going to be doing games so I think I think pundits should actually have the flexibility to to be refreshed and be present and be energized for the running the season so I’m with Ste actually I’m not here for the quarters so you not back take that back oh there we go got a charity trip I’ve got a you spy on Me Stevie charity you Ellis Jenkins told us last week that he was going on it with you yeah yeah yeah yeah of course we’re raising money for CI rubby Community Foundation um so any other rants we got any other rants no let St go last because this is good if I know what it is um trying to get my kids to play golf at the moment which is hard enough in itself um and I think I’ve we’ve let eight people will play through Us by the fourth hole because we’re playing slow I had these guys shouting these old men shouting heckling I was like Lads give give the boys a chance getting our go I was like no not having it so those guys I don’t they probably don’t listen to this if they do I see them again I would say i’ definitely say John your kids would play with provy ones 100% they they do know what Pro ones I’m getting them the dunlops the old Slazenger special from Costco L brand new they lost a brand new Prov the other day which wasn’t good no all right mine as well fair enough give kids a bit of leeway Stevie rant yeah it’s no it’s really easy it was just uh two degrees too hot today in lanzer for me so that’s it where’s your where’s your tan we’ve been parasol oh s belly that reminds me I got to buy some milk run out of milk we just see we just lifted up his top and showed us what I don’t know could only be described as custard um right that is R the week now we’ve got a new segment I don’t know why we bring a new segment in we already got a few shows left but this is the new inbox segment so unloaded you get your questions into you are see unloaded um just lost the actual email address there U at gmail.com USC unloaded at gmail.com each week we’ll read out the best questions producer Ben do we have any questions this week oh oh my God G us a given us an essay here how long does the linesman determine where a lineup should be taken from I often see them running the 25 30 meters from where the ball actually crossed the line similar question what yard stick is used to determine where a conversion kick is taken from um they do it by site they trying they guesstimate where the ball’s going to be kicked yeah and they look above their head right there it is sometimes you get a bit more sometimes you don’t that first one Shanks going ahead John I was gonna say Kevin’s ruined this section week one and he’s asked the worst question I’ve ever heard so I don’t’s up to Big cev that first question was was about the touch Jud so um I had I didn’t know either so why do they stand right on the TR line and then run maybe 40 or 50 yards back to where where they think the ball’s been kicked out because if Case gets kicked dead I didn’t know that okay well there you go that ruined it now um could the three igos tell me why at the sou African grounds they insist on playing music through the PA system every stoppage of play is it a cultural thing Billy who wants to take this one I don’t know the answer so probably just for fun get the crowd going it’s yes to create atmosphere it’s to create a party atmosphere you see it a lot you see it at like sevens don’t you um probably more so you probably see the Super Bowl maybe Billy maybe Billy is a bit like sha Edwards um because when he was coaching Wales he came into the change room and like for two games during the Six Nations he wouldn’t let us play any music before a game said it was the he said it was the wrong beat he said the beat’s too fast it’s it’s not the right kind of beat so he he turned it off and then um player power turn him over right what is Ryan Wilson like to work with and that is Mandy uh tricky very tricky um I mean I game have you did you listen to game and he was getting Google translate and playing it through his Mike he’s he’s forever stuffing sweets in your mouth when you’re commentating always playing with your your knobs when you’re on commentary your your your things that change the volume and commentary yeah all right can’t wait to work with him have you wor with him sh you must have yeah yeah I mean he just gives away little secrets all the time on air and he doesn’t need to like there he is tucking into a load of more sweets why why you got tell people that shaming you it’s for your own health shame yeah I get that he’s loose but he’s fun um question all three um this is from Dave who is your favorite pundit from another Sport and why oh good question from another sport in another country it say sorry another sport yeah good ones to you Richards I don’t yeah I love my my favorite combo at the moment is um Kate ABDO mik Richards tiar Ry and Jamie carrier on CBS they do their European football I think it’s brilliant what they do yeah I was yeah oh it’s brilliant have a look online all right boys have you seen Rory maroy singing yeah awful it’s amazing but how good is that how I didn’t think you had it in him to be honest for those who haven’t um seen it make sure you go online and Google Rory M because he wins the tournament with Shane Larry um and he goes into a Hospitality tent just to thank the people there and there’s an 80s band on there all dressed up in as different characters and he just thanks everyone and he hands the mic back to the guy and the guy says do you want to sing a song he goes no I can’t sing and one of them says I’ll sing with you he says I don’t know any 80 songs and the guy says do you know Journey Don’t Stop Believing he goes yeah and then they force him to sing it on his own it’s it’s brilliant I love that is go what cash what for the song Who Needs live tour when you got that is what I say any more questions before we go um with Ferris at six bark at seven who would you both have as your number eight in the back row all in the game this is from either retired or currently playing um good show a f show yeah sorry I’m GNA I’m going to keep it local I always thought tier I feel tier tier was an absolute nightmare to play against okay like Bobby skin St oh Bobby I didn’t play against him so no didn’t doesn’t matter NE neither did I bu he he’s just such such a goodl looking bloke I’m gonna put him in there boun it out of it Ro between two Thorns so who said TI Tia you did John Stevie you going with Ferris I go no I go with jome Koo yeah good one and he felt sorry for me so he’s asked me who I would have as a 12 if I play 13 I would say Tim horen the greatest twoo small two World Cups two World Cups man tiny no two World Cups and yeah I did play with him at Harrison so even better or or my father my father there we are thank you for your questions um make sure you get them in for the next time we’re on this show which is a couple of weeks um now final thoughts European preview Champions Cup lster Northampton at croak Park 82300 sellout amazing work by ler cannot wait to see Mike McCarthy revving the crowd up no one no one in the business does it better than Mike wison G yeah Wilson’s giv him a run for his money is JB he sure is but I can’t wait for the game like can’t wait it’s going to be awesome I cannot see Northampton upset in the odds no I’m gonna say l laner by a points Victory margin of what 15 to 20 points y yeah totally agree mate totally agree yeah agree with you Stevie all courts game um to lose versus Harley quins I’m going to lose strong weird at this stage you can’t see either of these being tight I might be wrong but you just semi you can only see lster to lose final at this stage I would say l ler and and too can play I would say 85 to 90% And win whilst Northampton and quins have to play 110% yeah yeah but like did did did you give quins much of a chance against bordo yeah if you watch that game like I don’t think I think to Losa going to be the same as Bordeaux no too much too much quality to L better um glester Benetton in the challenge cup glester at home glester yeah I thinker gler um sharks and Claremont at the stoop tapping into the South African Market um I’m Claremont are G well Claremont are going lot better the last sort of six weeks eight weeks even in the top 14 so yeah yeah your guy your guy Alvar raka man he is an absolute freak um so good and the new number new number eight can’t remember his name um he was unbelievable against olster and yat the other guy in the back row um yeah as well so you’ve Charmed me you Charmed me mate with you I’m with you all right um kantos says F you look like you asked me to get back to the pool to swim up bar um so we’ll wrap up now boys thank you so much for your time on this show um we’ll be back after the next round which is round 15 um that is it make sure you watch Premier Sports download the app watch subscribe enjoy and we’ll see you soon goodbye [Music]

  1. Leinster want to win the European cup. Thats the number one item on the agenda. As Dobbo said it hasn’t really caught on in SA yet whereas the URC has but for Leinster everything else is secondary. They’ll blitz a couple more wins to finish near the top of the URC anyway and we’ll see from there. That said a few players on the tour didn’t cover themselves in glory.

  2. Glasgow have a chance against the Bulls but its not that great. If the Bulls are on form then they are not going to lose two at Loftus in the same year. The Lions will be tricky too for Glasgow.

  3. 37:39 – you guys are wrong (except for shanks). it should've been "play on" because this is what you call "a rugby incident".
the defender was standing still. the ball carrier literally ran into him. the defender did (and could do) nothing. what, is he supposed to move out of the attacker's way because "muh safety"? see, it's this kind of bs that needs to be corrected. this is the mindless/brainless kind of stuff that turns me off from rugby these days. instead of being a mindless fkg robot that follows the laws to the t, the ref should use his brain! not every single head contact is a red card. another example:
what if 2 players (who do not have the ball) accidentally run into one another connecting heads? there was head contact…and the law says when there's head contact, there must be a red card, because "muh safety"! why is head contact worse when the player has a ball in his hand? i mean, if it really was about "muh safety" then any head contact should be red…but it isn't…so "player safety" is just bs. players should sign waivers, acknowledging that they understand and are fine with the consequences of playing rugby. then the laws should be rolled back to circa 2007-2009. a time when you virtually never saw yellow, nevermind red, cards. a time before rugby started the slow process of being emasculated. we watch rugby for the physical confrontation! we want warriors to take each other's heads off -within the 2007/2009 laws!
anyway…i guess that's my rant for the day.
    great show guys 👍
