How much will Genesis Invitational withdrawal set Tiger Woods back? | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1
tigers’s very last shot of the 2024 genisis Invitational shortly after we would see him be swept off in a golf cart and that would be the end for Tiger not exactly how we saw this second round unfolding for the 15 time major Champion said he was out here this week to win that’s why he competes he wins but you can see there Bren head in the hands he’s not in a good place no I I I hat it for Tiger I hat it for the sponsors I hat it for the tournament and I hate it for all the people that have finally got to see him play you know this is first uh first PGA event since the 2023 Masters so yeah you know it’s really really tough um if there is any kind of Silver Lining at least it wasn’t the back it wasn’t the anle yeah we’ll get to that in just a second we did have a bit of a statement from the EVP of the tgr ventures Rob um mcnamer he said well he started feeling some flu like symptoms last night woke up this morning they were worse than the night previous he had a little bit of a fever and that was better during the warm up but then when he got out there and was walking and playing he started feeling dizzy ultimately the doctors are saying he’s got some potentially some type of flu and that he was dehydrated he’s been treated with an IV bag and he’s doing much much better and he’ll be released on his own here soon not physical at all as you say his back is fine it was all medical illness dehydration which is now the symptoms are reversing the El now that he’s had an IV so with everything that we know Brendan this is just a really unfortunate circumstance as the wi Tigers tournament has come to an end but as you say the Silver Lining is it feels like it’s not back related it’s not injury related and and that was my first reaction I thought oh no it’s his back or or it’s his ankle um nice to hear obviously not nice for Tiger he’s dealing with an illness but nice to hear that that was the cause of him not being able to play anymore this week yeah it’s difficult because you know when you are feeling not quite yourself out on the golf course and especially in Tiger situation where every day is a bit of a physical struggle within itself he never quite knows what he’s going to get but when you’re not physically feeling at top energy you will naturally see that sort of domino effect into the way that we saw him swinging today oh very much so you know when you when you’re feeling under the weather your body’s not moving in the same way and we saw those swings there a little bit further on in his round four five six there was just no lower body nothing was synced up there was no timing and that can often be the case when you’re feeling a little bit under the weather for Tiger how much of a hiccup do you think this will be just in terms of trying to find momentum you know he said that he wants to tear it up at least once a month that’s what we’re hoping to see and and I’m sure he was looking forward to embracing the weekend in front of the crowds and this is a place that he loves so very much I think it’s a small bump in the road I really do I I don’t think that this is going to be a big a big story moving forward at all I think it’s a a minor bump um I I look forward to him hopefully teing it up somewhere in uh in Florida pretty soon I I obviously we don’t know for sure but would love to see him maybe at the Players um but yeah to answer your question I think just a very minor bump in the road and in terms of what we’re expecting to see now over the weekend at the Genesis it’s one of the strongest Fields we’ve had all year 23 of the top 25 players teed off on Thursday morning but now we won’t have tiger inside the ropes well K of an effect we saw how much he moves the needle and how much the crowds were just adoring seeing him out here over the last couple of days will it have a bit of a deflated feel over the weekend it will slightly uh you know people were obviously very excited to watch tiger play this week um but I think once the kind of the dust settles from this there’s still a wonderful field out there a lot of big names and contention and a lot of guys that are playing some very very good golf so I think we’re still going to have some wonderful crowds and a great atmosphere this weekend yeah we’re not struggling with a strong leaderboard that’s for sure all right well let’s go out to Riviera Country Club because that is where we have had our team all afternoon with their eyes on the scene this afternoon watching it all unfold live you’ve got our reporter Kira k Dixon and Aaron obosa who was following Tigers group in coverage this afternoon guys good to see you just take us through what you saw and what you learned about tigers withdrawal today Yeah Anna both Aaron and I were down on the Range watching the warmup and Aaron you were also out with their group so o overall what were your takeaways from your observation of tiger today I I thought on the Range he looked just slightly more labor than he did the day prior uh when he went and played he looked a little Freer the day before the swing looked okay today but I thought the movement was a little bit more deliberate was a little bit slower uh definitely a little bit more labored but I will say that when he got to the first te I didn’t think anything of it I’m just thinking okay well you know he’s going to have to work into this it’s been a while since he’s played uh and then when I got out to his group at number four S hit a shot didn’t hit a very good shot on four made bogey on four then he got to the fifth T and this is where it kind of concerned me uh as we were waiting to they were waiting to come to us for t- shots he was he was literally bent over like this on like a stand on five and it he looked in a lot of discomfort what kind of discomfort I have no idea but he definitely looked in in a in a tremendous amount of discomfort hit the t-shot hit the second shot played up six and then I saw uh PJ tour security just kind of rally around Tigers people and they were talking and Rich beam and I out there following his group together we kind of what’s this all about and Rich was like I have no idea and that’s when he hit the t-shot and then immediately the cart came out uh they picked him up and they took him in and I had no idea at that point they came down to me and I had no idea at that point why he was withdrawing but uh you know it’s never a good thing when you hop in a card as a player that’s usually means a wd yeah it’s certainly not a good sign I was actually standing up here uh by plager dining when I saw Tiger’s cart pull up he got off the cart and just marched straight into player dining and then there is this moment of question of what’s Happening Happ next and a bunch of media members went to the far side of the clubhouse and at that point we saw two fir trucks in an ambulance pull up so then we’re thinking okay this is maybe getting it was you know very dramatic scary very scary you know is something uh really bad happening U they had ended up pulling that ambulance all the way up to a side door and uh there was no movement for a while and they ended up bringing uh you know the device that you would put somebody in a gurnie there we go thank you for the work uh back into back into the ambulance without anybody on it um they they didn’t give any details as to why or who they were waiting for and then they they left um and it we went back to the side door where um the men’s locker room is and tiger ended up walking out on his own uh got into his car with his caddy Lance Bennett Rob McNary was on his team and a security personnel and they drove away uh but it was certainly uh very concerning there for for a little bit but then we got the statement that you know he is in fact going to be okay that he had flu like symptoms was treated with the IV and seems like um things were going much better but just in terms of his game Aaron from what the limited things that you were able to see before things uh got to the point where you described them what were your takeaways overall I I thought I think his game is is going to be trending for where he is right now I think we all have to be realistic about where he is from a body standpoint um I think we need to understand that he’s only played you know one and not even one and a half tournaments uh since last since the beginning of last year and I think that we have to be realistic about where he is right now and not saying that he can’t do something on the PGA tour anymore cuz he certainly can what I saw he’s got still got plenty of speed it’s just a matter of can he get his his body to go a full 18 holes four days in a row and walk these golf courses and and be there when it counts and that that’s the biggest question mark and until I see full four full rounds out of tiger I I I I sit here and I have to wonder you know can he can he still win on the PGA tour well eron we appreciate your insights as always and best wishes to tiger for speedy recovery okay thank you guys great reporting good to know exactly what you saw unfold on site there and uh the question marks continue over Tiger Woods and his future on the PGA tour let’s just remind ourselves of his recent results now you can see three withdrawal ruls dating back to the 2022 PGA Championship where he had to with dra after the third round he missed the cut at the open did tie for 45th at this event just last year and uh finished well third to last at the Hero World Challenge so we are yet to see some really positive momentum for Tiger Woods inside the Rope

This is countrywide and as can be unpredictable
When Tiger played the hero everyone was talking about his sweating and possible PED use, now he is dehydrated and needed an IV… I don't buy the flu story. Whatever he is putting in his body to play is having some adverse responses.
So what. You were not playing well. Finish for your fans that make you who you are. That was cheap cop-out because he was playing like crap. Get over it already
God bless 🙌 Tiger woods full recovery from his illness and pray his rise to shine as my shining golfer 🏌️♂️ 🙏✨️💯🙌
Corona virus still catching around? No ody wearing mask.
Thank goodness it is a sickness NOT his body…whew
Its totally his back…
“His back is fine”? I’ve had back issues on and off for 30 years…sure looked like he was walking like a man with back issues. That’s not to say he wasn’t suffering from the flu but please don’t insult our intelligence that his back is fine. Fact is he’s a broken down 47 year old trying to compete with guys 20-25 years younger. Just say it, cause your audience sees it with our own eyes.
Well, it will be okay. I think he might be able to win again on tour, but it most likely will have to be really really weak field. Its nice to see him back and playing mediocre as I think that is all anyone can really expect out of him at his point…..I mean, lets face it, the guy is still recovering from his injury and he of course, keeps getting older. I just hope when it comes time to play on the Champions tour he is around 75% of what he once was as that will help pick up interest on that tour as well as the PGA for that matter. Finally, I really hope he doesn't break Snead's record as he is just not worthy of having lone ownership of any meaningful all time PGA record……..just saying…….
Golf has got to stop depending on Tiger Woods. It needs to stand on its own, and sponsors need to stand up.
Walking around Rivera country club feels like walking up a mountain. if you got the flu, it feels like walking up a mountain with an elephant on your back!
Better the flu then hurting himself physically in the rain this weekend
Small bump in the road? Irrespective to today’s illness, compare his 2019 swing to what he does now. You can’t play world class golf on one leg. He has zero lower body rotation. In addition, I don’t think he can walk 72 holes without doing harm to his bad leg.
its draining to be around all these people and reporters constantly wanting a chat
Pga needs to come up with some new stories to get viewers hooked because 1 I didn't not watch pebble 2. this event has been maybe satisfactory but no spark of a story out there.
Wha? No flu game?
Help meeeeee!! Where is my bogey golf IV bag man!!?? …I can't continue… AAAAAaaarrrrgggg……
I appreciate Tiger for the time that we had him at his best but now injuries have caught up to him and is growing very tiring because the media builds up his playing the whole week and then he plays and withdrawals. It’s a big up-and-down and a big letdown hope he gets better .
I drove 3 hours to Riviera in LA traffic to only find out that Pussy Cat withdrew. I’m so over this overrated has been! Much rather root on younger, genuine good guys that don’t cheat on their wives or living off a reputation. To mentioned him with the legends like Palmer, Nicklaus, Snead, & Hogan is pitiful.
Funny how Tiger pulls out when he starts playing bad
He wants to play once a month so expect excuses every month. Tiger why are you rusty, well it's because
I only play once a month…
He sharted his pants on that last slice. We all get the flu after that.
Tiger needs to hang it up. Not sure why he thinks he can play twice a year and be competitive.
Tiger 🐅 doesn’t even sniff the cut on a course he knows like the back of his hand. What a shabby end for a great champion. Then Jordan DQ. Rory not playing well. Riviera is my favorite pga tour venue. This years event is a disappointment
He got sick after digging in his burger with his dirty hands
Well said…..
Tiger is a weenie. Either he really is that fragile (which I doubt) or his pride simply can’t take his poor play. Either way, he’s a weenie
Golf needs to move on from Tiger. He needs to retire or join the senior tour. Hes an icon but I don’t want to remember him for being an injured shell of himself
You should have the golf analysts job..truth and common sense….i feel bad for Woods…years of bad advice and hanger-oners ….he looks as if he hasn’t slept in weeks…awesome remarks
NEWS MEDIA does not have a heart, it's news he's news so they really don't care about his health, news and money. Leave the fella alone.
“The first time you quit, it’s hard. The second time, it gets easier. The thing time, you don’t even have to think about it.”
– Paul “Bear” Bryant
Whether sick or injured, it is indeed a shame how Eldrick’s generational talent has declined at a fairly young age.
The flu is a B.S. story to hide the fact that his body has broken down due to abuse and he cant play anymore. You can"t drive a car totally drugged up, roll it across a highway and lucked out that he didnt kill anyone.
If you believe Tiger was sick, I have some land in Alaska with palm trees on it I'd like to sell you.
