one hey guys welcome back to Modern golf
I hope you’re having an amazing day and
even better
week today we’re talking about one of
the if not the hottest golf bag brands
in the industry and that’s vessel this
is their new players for
air so a couple weeks ago this shows up
and this is the air and I was not at the
PGA show this year I had some other
commitments I could not attend so I know
this was introduced to everyone at the
PGA show um in four different colors
there’s this color which is uh I think
called night Shadow which probably
appears to you guys as a grayish green
that’s how it looks to me um supposed to
be like their blackish finish um they
also have a white uh a Navy which I
think is probably the best color in this
bag um and then also a mid gray but I’m
not going to get into everything right
now I want to go over the features and
then I’ll wrap up and who I I’ll tell
you who I think this bag is for and uh
who it isn’t for so let’s talk about the
top first so when I think about vessel I
think their their 14-way top maybe the
best in the industry or second or third
at at the very bottom bottom um I think
they have some of the best mechanisms
and their top is definitely one of the
best so 14 way top microfiber esque um
material it it’s to me it’s again the
the top one or the second best in the
industry I know some people like the
denser um microfiber that’s a little
softer I didn’t have any issues with any
of these and I’ve used them all um I
think an incredible top I know some
people don’t like 14 way tops I get it
um I love a 14-way top I love to be
organized so I love having this top so
with that being said there’s also a
leather cuff handle on here uh which is
very nice and the touch and then also
the kind of nice leather leather or
synthetic leather um trim on the top but
overall really good
top so what you’ll notice as we go
through this bag it is very very techy I
am a tech junkie I say it almost in
every video like a robot but I love
techy stuff so for me this bag is in my
sweet spot my purple unicorn let’s say
of golf bags so let’s talk about this
bag natural um material by Cordo Cordura
um incredible material super lightweight
um I’ll put a picture up now if you look
at this under magnifying glass um
it is very very very very very
small rip stop material so I don’t how
durable you’re going to ask me I don’t
know these just came out but very
durable so I like the techie part of of
golf bags I will tell you I think vessel
missed out on making this super techy
but we’ll get into that as we go so
umbrella strap which they do here I
think it’s one of the best if not the
best in the golf industry um again I
like the sleeve like some other brands
do and then certainly the Little Hook
here uh the loop I know a lot of people
didn’t like this when they came out the
players 4 and said it should be higher
end material I’m okay with this I hook
my uh glove onto this so I I don’t
really mind there’s also a little Loop
here in Black uh that’s good to hook
onto your Rangefinder or what have you
so not bad there’s going to be two
complaints with this bag besides pricing
um and one of them is going to be the
zipper and I can tell you they have two
different zipper pulls one is like a
little string here with a neural feels
feels like aluminum and there’s a little
nub here and then there’s this little
guy that has like a carabiner style um
that can pull off this little zipper
pull and then also connect it to this I
don’t hate this um I think it’s a neat
look I don’t like this because if this
thing pops off you have nothing to get
the zipper besides you physically
pulling the little piece here up and
down I don’t like the shrink part of it
um I just would have liked to seen like
a different material maybe very
lightweight metal um and and the nled I
think is great to be fair I just think
they could have used their standard
zippers and everybody would have
probably been happy um so it’s not a
misstep I just don’t really understand
the thought of this so smaller valuables
pocket first super soft
antimicrobial um in case you don’t want
to give yourself covid or what have you
um very luxurious this is one of the
softest uh material I think vessel’s up
their grade here with this because it
feels softer than my old ones um the
garages here are kind of hidden they go
into there so it’s okay the other thing
I’ll tell you with the zippers is when
you first get this it is not a
one-handed zipper um between the aqua
guard in this pole it takes um a little
bit of time to to kind of get break in
and then you can operate it one-handed
so if you buy one of these don’t panic
and say oh the zipper is piece
of they break in and it’s fine um
so what do we get with this what do we
not get with this so you’re eliminating
what I call your little valuables pouch
in here with the lock so if you want to
put your Paddock FIP in here it’s gone
out of this one there’s also no way to
get into your clubs from here there is a
little I say little it’s a little area
here um like a little microfiber bag e
kind of uh pocket that I put my rain
Hood in although I’ll show you else
where I have it now and the rest of the
bag is pretty empty um so this entire
bag weighs just under 5 lbs um and again
it’s about 35 in from what I say toad to
nose there is a little pen um holder
here uh for your Sharpie or what have
you what you’ll notice um in a
comparison to the players 4 is you’ve
lost out on one of your bottle holders
so something to think about lightweight
techie not all the features um so let’s
get into the handle I love this I think
this is one of the sharpest looking
handles uh I’ve seen in a golf bag it’s
a carbon fiber look uh the padding
underneath is actually like a foam back
padding it’s not synthetic leather I’m
looking at my players for I’m not
staring out in space um so something a
little different it’s not bad I like it
um this they’ve gone back to more of a
rubber um decal or patch versus uh the
plastic one with the word with the
vessel logo I think most people probably
like this better than the plastic one
either way okay has some very cool
little metal accents here in vessel that
says you know vessel does everything
super highend and well um the straps I
would say these are denser than what I’m
used to uh they’re the same they felt a
little stiffer um they felt fine I’ve
walked a couple times with this bag um
no issues the only thing I will say is
you can actually see some of the
strapping come through uh the material I
don’t know how that’s going to wear um
but just like letting you guys know so
this little uh magnetic pouch here uh
has a new kind of pole with um a rubbery
material for the word vessel I like it
it’s very cool they have also eliminated
uh if you have a players 4 there’s that
kind of dual pouch where you can have
like the front and back that is now gone
in the air so just something to think
about again weight saving bag right this
is for the Walker um so you’re going to
eliminate some of this stuff larger
pocket here and we’ll show you guys on
there has still has that little screen
kind of pocket in here to put like your
golf balls or te’s or whatever you want
in there but I like it in there and now
the um serial numbered information is on
here and again like all bags we’ve seen
in the last year or so this comes off to
get your SAT score or your GPA in ninth
grade or what have you so
this is something I don’t understand why
we got rid of so there was a us used to
be a sticky material or like a grippy
material inside this where your hand
goes they’ve eliminated that I’m sure
for weight purposes but this is one of
the things I don’t get if this is a
walking bag this is something you would
use probably all day every day um so I
would have liked to have seen that stay
um the bag also has you can see the
light gray material sticky I love it
vessel was one of the first to do this
and then also their logo I’m going to
tell you I’ve learned the hard way I I
accidentally got my finger stuck in this
Base today and thought I broke my pinky
off so I was walking was holding it a
certain way and went to go move it and
it almost lost my pinky so fair warning
um with these but you know lucky me if
you haven’t seen the base work I just
want to show you guys how it works it’s
one of the best if not the best in the
industry works great never had a problem
with any of mine ever um I’ve owned I
don’t know a dozen different vessel in
my life I’ve never had a service issue
with any of them so and I get emails
listen and I’m not saying yeah I have a
lot of bags to use and but you know my
last one had 50 rounds on it the white
one and it shows very little wear and
tear and some people say oh the leg sag
or this one I’ve had no issues with my
my vessel bags whatsoever and it’s not
I’m not a fanboy I’m not being paid um
by Vestal tell you that I’d tell you
listen if they were pieces of junk I
tell you they’re junk um but I’ve never
had a problem one so the Batwing pocket
as I like to call it where your bottle
holder goes um is on just this side now
what I’ll tell you what I thought
interesting is one magnet and then mine
sticks out as you guys can probably see
like this um and again I don’t know if
that’s for me putting a water bottle in
there or not I think it’s a little
misstepped you know I can’t fit my 32 oz
Yeti anywhere on this bag so I would
have liked to have seen something a
little bigger um but it is what it is um
zipper pocket
here here’s your rain Hood it’s the same
material as this it does have the aqua
guard zippers you guys know how I feel
about rain hoods um not a huge fan uh
although this one’s small so it can go
somewhere this pocket’s empty inside and
there’s no other like hidden
compartments or anything it just is what
you see is what you
get pad here um again I would like to
see some type of material or some we of
getting that thing underneath here
the one thing I don’t love and I think
I’ve mentioned this before is I think
this is a misstep with their logoing
this is just an ink um that they put on
I think with this bag it could have done
black I think it made it look sleeker or
like they use in a lot of their bags I’m
I’m looking again not that one or at
that one um a reflective or a cooler
material I just thought this was kind of
like H okay and it really doesn’t go
with the bag I understand they want
their brand to stick out but you know
one of these in white would have been
fine maybe the other ones in black or
reflective material or what have you but
hip pad’s good it’s very comfortable
it’s a little on the thinner side um and
what I will say with this one is you can
kind of feel when you’re using it you
can kind of feel the uh the post um for
the back so we’ll get into this side
last um the spine of it I think vessel
makes the prettiest um carbon fiber legs
there are in the industry uh they’re
beautiful now you can replace these in
different colors I think that’s an
awesome idea um the feet are adequate I
don’t think they’re the best in the
industry but they do fine for this bag
you’re not going to say oh I wish I had
a you know 3x size foot I think they’re
fine um has the lockout here with this
string I would like to see this tough
guard material be a little upgraded and
move down a little bit um again I don’t
know what’s with these Brands and this
is not the first one and you guys can
kind of see like they don’t even they
don’t line up right like this one’s
almost off the bag and this one’s this
much short so I’d like to see this tough
guard for that exact reason move down a
little bit um but it is what it is so
overall now that we’ve showed you all
the amazing features with the vessel bag
who do I think this bag is for who’s its
competition and what we like and what we
don’t like
I’ll s tell you what I like um I like
the techie aspect of this bag I don’t
love this color way I think this color
way almost looks green um if you want
like an army green color this is the one
to get uh it’s just not my favorite I
think the blue or the other gray man
maybe even the white one would have been
good um I don’t love this color so just
against subjective I love the techin I
don’t like the elimination of certain
things like I don’t know what that would
have um put in for a weight for a second
pocket um I just think there’s some
things that I I kind of
question um so so overall I like the bag
um I think the problem I have with this
bag and and I and I’ve gone through this
back and forth for 10 days of how to
kind of wrap this conversation up I
think the biggest problem with this golf
bag is who its competition is and I
don’t mean other brands I mean it’s own
competition is its own siblings this bag
is
380 and a player’s four in the synthetic
materials are 400 so if and I’ll do a
full comparison maybe some point down
the road so if we look at this bag that
has I think a lot of panach has has some
beautiful Aesthetics to it I think is
probably the standard for high-end golf
bags in the industry and then you look
at this one for $2 less and I’m not even
going to grab my dxr one which I think
is a combination of both of
these I just think I don’t want to say
vessel drop the ball because they know
what they’re doing
but I think if they put this at a $300
price point they’d sell a ton of these I
think at 380 it’s just going to be a
harder bag to move do I think it’s a
cool bag yeah listen I like it a lot
I’ve used it uh three times or maybe
four times already I like it it’s a
great golf
bag however the caveat is if most people
are not like me who have 48 golf bags
right they have one they use so if
you’ve got your money that’s going to be
spent and you’ve got $400 what are you
buying I I think that’s the problem you
know you you don’t have this you don’t
have your velcro you don’t have a
leather handle you don’t have certain
things that this one does and that one
doesn’t and again I like vessel I like
their bags a lot I think it’s one of the
best golf bag manufacturers in the world
um I just think this one
wasn’t talked about or thought about
really out loud as much as I think it
should have been and I think if if I was
vessel I’d sell this at 300 bucks and
sell this one at four and I think now
you’ve got
um different Avenues of competing
against other brands versus um kind of
putting you’ve become your own
competition um
so you know again I don’t like to have
negative views and I don’t like to say
say I don’t like a bag or this that and
the other thing but at the end of the
day I just think the problem is their
competitor is their own brand I mean I
think this bag is Leaps and Bounds
better than this bag yes it’s 2 lb
heavier don’t get me wrong by the time
you put all your gear in here the
average golf bag weighs 27 lb when it’s
full so if this one’s 27 and this one’s
25 or 25 A2 are you going to really feel
it I don’t know and it’s not for me to
answer for you guys I’m just telling
you I think again I’m not saying it’s a
misstep by them I just think the price
point
throws your thought process of this golf
bag off um and again I like vessel I
like every bag I’ve ever had from them
um I just think this price point is
puzzling to me so anyway guys I don’t
want to bore you all day with my uh
droning on here so I like the bag I
think if you’re looking for a 14-way top
golf bag um that’s very different really
I think one of the few that actually has
this type of 14-way top where you can
actually have a putter pit outside of
maybe a Titleist has them or some other
brands but if you want a
non brand name let’s say golf bag I
don’t mean vessel is not a brand name
but you know what I mean like tyus
Taylor Made or Callaway this is probably
the best option there is right now uh um
so again I just think at the end of the
day I think if this was $100 less and
I’m not listen I don’t think vessel’s
going to lower their price by 100 bucks
but I think if this is a $100 less golf
bag they’re selling these like crazy I
think at 380 and again we go back to
this at 400 I just think you’re
competing against yourself and so I
don’t know you know I like the bag I
think it’s great but I just don’t know
what the thought is here um so anyway
guys I hope you enjoyed this I’m sorry I
rambled on this was a difficult review
for me to do because
I this bag just throws me for a loop I I
don’t really know
like what the thought process was for
this big um I understand it’s
lightweight techy all that stuff but
like it’s it’s just too close price
point to this one so anyway guys I’m not
going to drone on I got to get out of
here um please like subscribe do all
that good stuff please leave your
