A suspect was shot by officers on Monday after reportedly pointing a gun at law enforcement during an arrest attempt on Belle Isle.

is in the hospital after he was shot by
a Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy an Bell
Isle during an attempted arrest Chopper
7even over the popular Island State Park
this morning members of the sheriff’s
office Michigan State Police and Detroit
police rushing to the scene the Wayne
County tether unit was able to track the
suspect to a wooded swampy area behind
the golf course on Bell Isle our Mike
Duffy joining us now with more on what
led up to this shooting Mike Glenda
Brian the wing County Sheriff’s office
tells 7 News Detroit the man is a
criminal sexual conduct suspect deputies
got involved after he failed to appear
in court this morning an electronic
tether showed the suspect was on Bell
Isle deputies tracked him to a spot
along the Water behind the golf course
deputies say when they approached the
man they saw he was holding a gun he
turned and uh with a 9mm long gun it
appears to be a 9mm long gun pointed at
the officers and they fired in defense
of themselves the man was struck in the
leg he fell into the water and was
pulled out by deputies who applied at
tourniquet and first aid he’s in serious
condition tonight no deputies were
injured now Michigan State Police is now
the the one handling investigations
