so we’re back for our head-to-heads and
today we have the battle of the big boys
we’ve got the Callaway AI smoke versus
tailor made Qi and remember before you
watch any further hit that subscribe

button so back in January tailor made
and Callaway pretty much every year now
are going to lach launch a new Iron cway
have come out with the AI smoke this
year huge AI technology smart face
technology behind the head Ultra
forgiving really really easy to hit what
they’ve done really well with this iron
this year is theyve put the price point
really competitive they got it massively
wrong with Paradigm last year is it was
way overpriced and it was it really
pulled Callaway out of this Market
however this year already we have seen
this iron super super
successful you’ve got a few versions of
this iron as well you’ve got the HL iron
as well I’m going to be testing the
standard head on look it looks pretty
cool it performs really well as well as
we know we’ve seen it in the fitting Bay
already but we’re going to put that up
against the tailor made Qi something
over the last few few years that with
stealth with with the Stealth
Iron tailor made have really owned this
Market Market this kind of forgiving
golf club Market they’ve really sort of
taken to town a lot of their competitors
I would
say but this iron is slightly different
it’s a little bit sleeker in look not
too much going on but more forgiving so
Taylor M say with this iron they’ve
really made sure that off the off center
strikes you’re going to really get and
maintain ball speeds and you’re going to
maintain the face angles and and control
and and tighten up your dispersions it
is so I’m really interested to see this
because I’ve hit these both in review
and I actually think they’re both
exceptionally good irons I think both
companies this year have
nailed these irons and in terms of price
point and location they’re really going
to work so let’s dive straight in by
starting with the QI so we’re straight
in head-to-head Qi iron is going first
in this head tohe head this is a battle
of the big boys right so tailor made
Callaway tend to smash it out each each
year on who’s got the most forgiving
iron um the marketing machines kick in
early January and both tell us that
these are the best IR they’ve ever
produced and how forgiving they are well
normally over the past five or six years
I would say that one has come out better
than the other quite quickly Stealth
Iron that was run for about two and a
bit years really took the market it was
sensational as an iron and before that
Taylor Made had the Sim range and that
was Sensational too so Callaway have
struggled to really knock them off the
perch this year the in terms of sales in
terms of what we’ve seen across the
stores across the fitting
Studios it’s been quite tight you know c
c have got this um now that could be a
price thing that could be uh many host
of reasons but one of the things I will
put it down to is the overall
performance and the feedback we’ve got
from players and from our
Fitters so I’m going to have a go with
Qi first I mean first
impression look let’s let’s not let’s
not be dark about this this is a chunky
iron right this is a for a play this is
a forgiving iron that is designed for a
player that just wants to hit it at a
decent distance wants to have lots of
forgiveness wants to enjoy their
golf wants to improve
I think overall from a look if it sits
in the bag is very Sleek I like the fact
they haven’t done too much and trying to
been too crazy with the color and the
pattern the the little the graphite
effect in the back panel looks really
slick as well top Edge is thick though
top Edge is thick nice bit of offset on
it but help you’re going to get that
ball right up in the air I’ve got my
nipon shaft in it as well my motor
shaft but it is a big iron I mean it is
a big
high you know when you when you used to
playing something small when you put
something like that down it is quite
difficult so
let’s just feels it is solid and it it’s
just these whenever you get some BS like
this it is
solid
see oh that was lovely that’s got miles
it’s been absolutely
mild yeah it feels good it feels good it
doesn’t feel clumpy it doesn’t you know
you got to get over for me I’ve got to
get over that top Edge 185 yard carry
Solid powerful iron you can see why if
you struggle for a bit distance you want
to hit it a bit further this would be a
really good iron to put in the bag or at
least
test that’s the bit where tailor made
now this will be interesting because
this is the bit Taylor Made have talk
about with this iron that they’ve moved
weight around in such a way inside the
head that those toe and heel Strokes toe
specifically are not going to lose ball
speed I mean I’ve nearly missed that
head I mean it’s a big head and I’ve
nearly missed it and I’ve only dropped
off eight nine yards so that seemed to
work quite nicely for me that bit of
technology so let’s see if we can strike
one
again oh there she is oh
that’s
Dreadful to delete that one I think
again good forgiveness though right
really thin really knifed really really
horrible strike but it’s still carried
out there at 18 good land angles with
this iron as well great ball speeds look
insane ball
speeds that was nice that was really
nice
actually went forward
185 so really good iron you’re getting
really good ball speeds off this iron so
overall Qi this year as the previous
models performs great is a good good
upgrade from stealth cuz that was a hard
iron to be Taylor Made have done a
fantastic job with this iron but now we
put it got to put it
against car hour smoke so let’s bring in
a smoke to the
party
overall sleeker look right like really
really slick
look but really slick much smaller head
looks smaller whether that is a
preference of yours that’s up to you
um they both give a lot of give the
Forgiveness element off they kind of
ooze forgiveness both of them doesn’t
the top Edge on on the smoke doesn’t
look as thick for me visually um as
Qi again I’m sure some one of you can go
and measure this and tell me otherwise
but this remember this is us what it
looks like this is just what it feels
and when I’ve got it in my
hands frames the ball very
nicely in fact looks really good behind
the ball you know it looks really really
good the way they’ve contrasted the
color when I saw this back
in in uh in January time just before
Christmas that we got get we got shown
these In the Flesh and overall they look
I really quite like both of those in the
bag I think there’s a bit of rack appeel
to both of those I wouldn’t be afraid to
put either of those in in the bag it
looks neat it looks tidy I I like the
the sole is a little bit thinner
obviously with AI smoke they’re using
their AI
technology to really make sure that
you’ve got the most forgiveness IR Based
on data so that’s really interesting but
let’s have a hit and let’s see how this
thing
feels oh it felt horrible that did that
wasn’t the club though come On’s let’s
let’s not be funny that wasn’t the
club know what’s going on today 178 car
I mean for something that was absolutely
Dro that was all
right that was nice and that felt like
like it went a long long
way really struggling with the sun today
so sun has decided to come out and it is
straight in my eyes so I can’t really
see the ball Land one 192
carry I knew it was long but wow that is
a hot iron isn’t
it that was a towy horrible strike so
that’ll be an interesting one to have a
look at did we get the drop off so one
of the key focuses of an eyon like like
these is going to be how well does the
Mis strike perform not how well the good
strike performs but how got the m strike
now that was quite a big m strike I
would say it’s kind of a four out of 10
hit for for
context it’s dropped off what’s that 15
20 yards off the previous shot that went
a long way and there was ripped I
wouldn’t say that that is a big drop off
bear in mind how badly I struck that so
okay if you H it 4 out of 10 you got to
blame you right it’s not the club but if
you’re 7 out of 10 is it close enough to
the really really good
one I’ve absolutely nuted that that was
ripped what I really like about it’s got
the nipon shating again so again we’re
trying to keep the shafts as close to we
can 132 ball speed 1 193 carry this is a
hot iron guys like I don’t normally
carry 7 iron 1 193 um
not well I
don’t just don’t do it um this is a hot
iron ball speed off this is brilliant it
is really nice to see Callaway have
really done a great job with this iron
this
year oh I’ve Ned that that feels so good
off the
face absolutely ripped that 1 193 again
132 ball speed what a
absolute brilliant brilliant iron looks
good Callaway have I think have nailed
this AI smoke this
year Kuai is brilliant as well so I
think it’s time we give it the AF golf
head-to-head to see which one comes out
on top so it’s time to give it the
head-to-head score remember we do this
on five things
my subjective opinion I there a little
bit in there as well so we’ll start with
we’ll start with the look so both irons
look good there’s a lot of rack appeal
these irons typically become really good
in Callaway’s marketing world there’s a
lot of branding that goes into this it
looks sleek both of them look good
um my preference I I think this this
thinner sole in the AI smoke the thinner
slightly thinner Top Line and the
slightly smaller
head is going to be my preference so I’m
going to put AI smoke ahead of Qi on
this in this occasion in terms of feel
this felt brilliant this felt really
powerful really strong didn’t feel like
I was going to um struggle with any sort
of distance with this
iron but this felt better I will say I
smoke actually felt better it felt more
controllable off the face it was hotter
off the face but it was felt more
controllable so unfortunately for f I’m
gonna give it to AI smoke again so this
is now tal up guys custom options both
of these guys are
brilliant custom options are a bit of a
weird one because there’s so much choice
now in every brand that it should be a
tie right it should be it should be and
we we build both of these which is that
beautiful um Nuance for
us so it’s going to have to be a draw
isn’t it right so three
one
performance well I got as Chris rightly
said I got more excited about one than
the other the feel off this the ball
speeds off one the ball speed feel
distance that came out of the AI smoke
has to put it ahead of Qi for me in this
test it has to so on that Cas on on that
pretex AOS smoke has to win that as well
and then the final one which is our
price there’s a 10B
difference between these
two and the AI smoke is10
cheaper so it wins that as
well
overall AI smoke is coming out on top in
this head-to head five to one
so interesting really really interesting
head-to-head there enjoyed that one when
you get bats like this that you can get
some ball speeds off they can go and
it’s good fun to smash them on the Range
and see what you can do with them a
smoke this time comes out on top which
is brilliant hope you enjoyed that hope
