the 150th Kentucky Derby the Run for the
Roses America’s most famous horse race
the fastest 2 minutes in sports two
weeks from today we have several
workouts happening this morning uh
catching Freedom will go to the track
Just a Touch Mystic Dan door knock and
common defense there’s another important
workout that happened this morning that
I’ll wait until Jonathan uh Hardon gets
on with us to talk about that of course
the big workout yesterday was one of the
big favorites in the Kentucky Dober
fierceness he racked off a super workout
at uh Palm Beach Downs in 1 minute and
35 100 seconds for the the five Furlong
so um fierceness getting the job done
there yesterday morning but there was a
horse this morning that had just a good
as workout we’ll fill you in about that
a little bit later on West Saratoga also
worked yesterday went 3/4s and
116.2 at Keenan and catalytic another
Kentucky Derby entrant uh went in 114
and change at Gulfstream Park so the
Derby horses that are set and ready to
go to the Kentucky Derby are having
their next to last workout serious
workouts before the Kentucky Derby and
of course many horses are already on the
Churchill Downs Racetrack uh Galloping
and working out there it’s going to be
one hell of a weekend that’s for sure
now of course we already told you about
the Thursday show we’re going to have
the special on Friday the next day on uh
Friday May 3rd the Kentucky Oaks program
of course we be on and then after the
races are concluded in Southern
California we’ll be having our annual
Kentucky Derby seminar that’ll be in the
Grand View Lounge on Friday May 3rd at 6
PM following the races on the west coast
and it’ll feature of course again
Jonathan Hardon from the East and John
Lindo from Southern California we’ll go
over the Kentucky Derby uh race itself
other key races on the Day’s card that
we believe we can make some money on and
certainly what happened that day on the
Kentucky Oaks day as well and then we
shift up to the Grand Ballroom on
Saturday May 4th it is finally the
Kentucky Derby Kentucky Derby Day the
big viewing party up there in the Grand
Ballroom doors will open early at 9:00

screen TVs smaller TVs for the other
races on that day as well so you can bet

zidan is appeal to try to get M into the
Kentucky Derby has been denied what a
shock right that was denied yesterday in
the Kentucky court he immediately filed
for an appeal I don’t know what to tell
you folks except that you know the
judicial system as slow as it is I know
they have uh they they tell them it’s
imperative uh for the timing but he’s
got two weeks now before MTH has to show
up in Kentucky has to be there ahead of
time for the entries Etc and pass all
the veterinary uh examinations as well
so it’s getting real tight for Mr zadan
but he’s pulling out all the stops
trying to get Mo the Arkansas Derby
winner into the Kentucky Derby under the
training title of Bob bafford we will
wait and see what happens further on
that but he has immediately filed an
appeal on the uh well on the decision
yesterday of denying him his right to go
to the race so we will continue to wait
and see uh this weekend uh big racing
today at oaklon Park the oaklon handicap
how about
$1,250,000 up for grabs for that big
race couple of races around the country
will have implications not for the Derby
but for the prakes the middle Jewel of
the Triple Crown as a matter of fact the
Federico tessio that will be run at
Laurel Park remember Laurel is in
Maryland by the time they get to the
pness the racing uh circuit in Maryland
will transfer to pimo race course but
the winner the feder RICO tessio today
at aurel will have an automatic bid into
the prakes the middle Jewel of the
Triple Crown two other races that might
have implications for that and um
certainly entry into the pness in
include uh the Hawthorne Derby tomorrow
and uh the bath row Bath House row
Stakes today at oaklon Park so we’ll be
looking at that as well taking a look at
what happened yesterday real quick San
Anita uh kicked off their Hollywood meat
yesterday highest priced winner on the
day was
$18.60 that came in the fourth race John
lindo’s pick was scratched yesterday
after we went off the air and all I can
tell you is that the one race that
really impressed me on the day was the
sixth race big buzz in a mile race a
mile on the main track was I’m telling
you folks a zip code last from the first
horse going down the backstretch he must
have been 20 lengths at least off the
leader turning for home he started
cutting into the uh the lead and then uh
in the in mid stretch he just roared
down the middle of the stretch and got
up and one from last place and I mean
last last place he gets up and win that
is not the Mo usually on the main track
at San Anita so keep that in mind big
buzz comes from the clouds to win the
sixth race yesterday at San Anita over
20 lengths uh from the lead early in the
race in last place paid $9 even for that
victory that was kind of a visually uh
exciting race to watch that’s for sure
Mike Smith got a couple of wins
yesterday on the card and uh all in all
pick six was not hit they did not hit
the pick six yesterday at San indana on
opening day for Hollywood meet so you’ll
have a pick six CL carryover today a
pick six carryover today a one-day
carryover at Santa Anita five out of six
yesterday paid
$460 it seemed like the several of the
winners on the on the main track and
certainly on the turf course came from
left field so the closers were were
making impact yesterday at Santa
Anita Kean race course the double dog

by the way it’s just beautiful out here
today in Las Vegas uh right now outside
here in Vegas it’s 64 degrees we’ll get
up to 90 degrees today 90 degrees today
tomorrow we’re going to jump up a few
more degrees we’ll top out at 93 and the
sun is shining bright beautiful day out
here in Las Vegas Nevada and as far as
up and down the Pacific coast it’s clear
as well the Gulf Coast for the most part
is clear the East Coast at least
Southeast is clear but you get up into
the Northeast and that very North
quadrant up there that does feature uh
Aqueduct as well you got some rain so
there’s some rain in that quadrant and
there and uh there’s a lot of uh heavy
action going on in Oklahoma and Texas
right around there and that front is
moving across
Arkansas and Jonathan Hardon reported to
me that he got a report that the clouds
are dark and coming at oakw Park so
we’ll wait and see if it might hold off

in Vegas we finally got some good
weather here well we didn’t we don’t
have good weather in New York York it’s
raining as we speak they already took
the ninth race off the turf today’s the
opening day of the turf courses so I’m
sure they’re going to be extremely
cautious they’re going to want to keep
the turf courses they don’t want to chew
it up on the first day so you know pay
attention make sure the races are on the
grass if you’re betting them for the
grass H Jonathan I thought yesterday was
the first day of turf they didn’t have
any yesterday no today is the first
today’s the first day on the turf course
there and the first day of the turf
course it’s raining so go figure
in any
case in any case aqueduck although it
has a fine racing card today the center
of attention in the nation I think it’s
going to be on oaklan park today and uh
you said uh somebody told you the clouds
are coming in yeah I spoke to oaklan uh
this morning uh we have a horse running
there today and uh the skies are dark as
could be and uh it’s not a matter of if
but a matter of one the rain is going to
come because they’re going to get hit
but like you said you know you never
hopefully they can get through most of
the card anyway and and it stays dry but
it doesn’t look promising well before we
get to your picks today I want to go
over the three stakes races at Oakland
today because they are back to back to
back so it it kind of gives you an all
Stakes pick three if you want to P play
the pick three there uh the ninth race
is the bath house row it is for
three-year-olds I understand that they
will help out the winner pay some of the
freight for the winner I think in this
race if they decide to go to the pness
off of the victory in this race but it
looks wide open to me I mean it looks
like a good competitive field uh for
this uh
Edition it is wide open Ralph and the
favorite in here the Brad Cox horse
militant he has two career starts he
hasn’t done anything wrong but you know
uh he’s not quite as fast on the figures
I kind of like the four horse in here
ined Patriot it’s one of the two uh
Steve mome horses in the race it’s also
the longest price out of the three
horses I think that are the main
competitors in here Imperial gun and
militant being the other two horses but
in formed Patriot at six to1 if you
really get that price that’s the right
horse to be playing what about a horse
called Maxima magic does he figure in
this race at all yeah I mean he’s moving
forward Norm mcnight does a terrific job
uh and usually he’s only five for 58 at
the meet but this is an improving horse
he’s going to be on the lead but I think
he’s going to get company today and no
easy leads for him all right Santana
rides informed Patriot at 600 to1 on the
morning line might hold the close to
that number because it is wide open and
competitive that’s for sure and your man
Mr Cox’s entrant will certainly get a
lot of backing as well with Floren Coro
aboard all right then we go next to the
Valley of the vapors and this is uh the
I guess the version of the bath house
roow for the Phillies three-year-old
Phillies at a mile and uh 11 go to the
Post in this one and again uh this race
is uh you know pretty wide open and
competitive that’s for sure no question
about it and whoever the favorite is in
this race I would be playing against
because the favorites in this race are
no better than price horses I like a
horse that’s a bit of a price number six
Under The Palms canny mCP is having a
terrific meet uh this horse is listed at
a ridiculous 10 to one on the morning
line she broke on Maiden last time out
but she’s improving she’s getting better
with each and every start and a 10 to
one number number six Under The Palms is
the right way to go oh man that’s a nice
juicy number the six Under The Palms in
the 10th race at Oakland I’m going to
put him with the the three horse blue
Squall because I think this horse has an
opportunity too and against Christian
Tores aboard who knows how to ride that
track at oaklan so we’re looking at some
prices certainly in the uh 10th race at
oaklan the Valley of the vapor and then
the big race of course the oakw handicap
$1,250,000 purse a grade two at a mile 1
E for the handicap division foury olds
and up a field of 11 a one horse that
very familiar to the players out there
is Skippy long stocking and that’s the
three to one favorite so you you see how
the morning line maker at least thinks
this race is wide open as well Jose
Ortiz comes in to ride other jockeys are
coming in to ride for the big bucks Joel
Rosario rides red route one and Floren G
on Highland
Falls yeah and red route one is listed
at 7 to2 on the morning and that’s a
ridiculous price Ralph he’s raced
against instant coffee the number 11
horse three times instant Coffee’s Beat
him twice and the only time that red
Route One beat him he beat him by a nose
so how they lay red Route One at 7-2 and
instant coffee at 15 to1 is just just
doesn’t make any sense to me and uh
doesn’t make any sense to a lot of other
handicappers that being said I think
Highland Falls breaking from the rail
for Cox really has a big Advantage his
last race was a sanity to handicap and
that day if you remember the race was
postponed and moved to a different day
and uh I think it kind of screwed up his
training and he wasn’t really fully
cranked I think he’s going to run much
better today a horse number four octane
you must respect Skippy long stalking
like you said always shows up and
instant coffee has trained very well for
the race but I think Highland Falls gets
a terrific uh a big Advantage I should I
should say because he’s breaking from
the rail and I think he’s going to work
out a great trip in here I like a one
with four 10 and 11 in that race all
right we’ll put that together that’s for
sure the one Highland Falls in the
oaklan handicap so we go over the three
big races today at Oakland we’ll get

look at race number six it’s a mile on
the turf and I like the number one horse
in here Fred is the red this is a
four-year-old Philly again from the red
hot Kenny mCP Barn he’s four for 12 to

price than that there’s enough speed to
set things up for this Philly and I like
number one frus the red to upset and win

morning hey good morning rafie getting
excited now huh for the Derby coming
up oh absolutely absolutely and uh when
I get more details about the the
Kentucky Derby advance and when it’ll be
available on the race books I’ll have it
the first thing on the show here with
all the listeners but that’ll give folks
a chance to even start out maybe uh five
six days ahead of time to start
handicapping the race with the full PPS
yeah no question about that that’s for
sure and it’s it’s getting to be
exciting because we know we we have
fierceness and sier Leon that are
working great but again you know we got
to wait for post position and of course
trip and how you know there’s a lot of
things that still to go in to uh taking
a short price in the Kentucky Derby
that’s for sure uh today of course you
have two full sheets you got Keenan and
Santa Anita any thoughts about what
happened yesterday at Santa Anita
well we got a carry over and a pick six
which always makes things fun and I’m
not typically a pick six player out but
when you see the pot with almost
$50,000 I think I’m GNA stick my toe in
the water today and take a shot of that
yeah that’s and it’s a dollar based bet
too yeah and uh you know I I like a
dollar based bet I know they’ve had
different uh ways to play the pi six for
years it was popular with the 20 cent
rainbow
and I think a lot of people have have
gotten sour on that because of the high
takeout to uh you know generate the
jackpots and stuff like that but I think
a dollar is like a perfect amount and a
perfect way to to to play the P six yeah
no I think that’s the price point that’s
for sure uh the perfect price point for
that bet and of course Kean has been a
real interesting meet hasn’t
it yeah I tell you what uh you know it’s
quite the be rooll candy is kind of
beating me up a little bit and uh you
know I hope some of the players out
there been keeping their head above
water but uh the racing is outstanding
and if you like value I mean there’s no
better track in the country all year to
to try to to get that value than Kean
and you know I was watching the the
analysts on FanDuel TV and they pointed
out correctly in the fact that you know
it’s hard to connect all the dots in the
pick six pick five pick for but if you
can get it done you’ll get paid and uh
you don’t have to hit many at those
prices uh the the most popular thing I
like about Keenan is the pck five have a
uh consolation payoff in other words you
can play the pick five and if you miss
just one out of the five in the sequence
you have four out of five you get a
little stien back and I think uh that is
a very uh I think that’s great for the
players because you want to churn money
and the people are hitting five are just
happy with the hitting the five with the
prices that that pay versus the
consolations and if you have have a
multiple ticket in the pck five you know
multiple picks in all the races and you
hit the pck five that brings in all of
those horses behind them in the other uh
you know in those races that are four
out of five and the constellations can
really add up so I like I like that
constellation setup with the pick fives
at Kean you know Ral I’m really glad you
mentioned that because when I was
writing for the Las Vegas Review Journal
uh I wrote a column because some of
these tracks eliminate the consolation
payouts on the pick Vive and I wrote a
column saying that that that was a wrong
thing to do to the horse players and for
all the reasons as you just mentioned
it’s good to get something back if you
go four out of five and um I got emails
from a couple of publicity directors
from around the country saying that I
was 100% wrong and you know which made
me think that I was right because if
they took that stance then I believe my
stance was correct that there should be
constellations in the pick five now I
don’t know what the consolation paid
yesterday but when you have a pick five
that pays 37,000 plus you know the
consolation is going to be something
really juicy and that happened yesterday
at Keenan all right uh time to get
started with the
pick yeah let’s go to Keenan first Ralph
uh the uh pick for my today will be
coming up in race number four it’s an
allowance race sprinting on the turf
let’s try the number three horse Cloud
Walker this is a horse from uh trainer
Brendan Walsh who has just been tearing
him up lately not only in ke but
wherever he he Saddles and Fon Pratt r 9
to2 in the morning line this horse Brook
has madeen last fall at Kean super
impressive and they’ve been pointing for
this spot over the winter so let’s go
with the three Cloud Walker 9-2 race for
Kean very popular selection I know in
the fourth race the three Cloud Walker
Flav and proud a board fourth race the
three uh Rich Ang’s pick at Keenan and
then we’ll go to
Sanita yeah and just a quick footnote I
I was listening to you and Jonathan
talking about the card at okon Park and
I concur with Jonathan especially the
Oakland handicap because my simoc cast
play of the day is number one Falls so I
concur with him 100% on that pick well

ridden in the past by Fon Pratt and
Frankie Dori but those two fellas are in
Kentucky I like the fact that baer’s
given curra a chance this is a single
for me in the early pick five number one
Normandy Landing race three San Anita
interesting in that race a horse that
comes off of 50 3 week layoff that was
purchased uh at auction for
1.55 million uh nuclear is in the race
and I know he’ll get some support as
well but man 53 weeks a layoff is a long
time to come back might need one that’s
for sure but in the third race you like
the one Normandy Landing Normandy
Landing the one in the third race at San

I’m doing fine my man a lot of workouts
for the Derby horses around the country
I know fierceness had a big workout
yesterday morning but I understand one
of his main competitors had just as nice
workout this
morning right the blueg grass Stakes
Winner Sierra Leon worked at Kean this
morning for trainer Chad Brown he worked
with a a stable mate named white
Palamino on the inside of him they went
the half mile easy half in 48 and4 but
they galloped out all the way down the
backstretch he this was a basically an
easy seven furong type of drill they
gave him a half mile time one thing’s
for sure Ralph Sierra Leon is dead fit
coming into the Derby yep I think both
of the horses that will take a lot of
the money and certainly probably buy for
favoritism Sierra Leon and fierceness
they still have one more workout to go
we still have two weeks to go and until
the uh they actually race on the track
and I know they they have uh like I said
one more serious work yet before but man
it looks like they’ve got all the parts
in the right place and they’re peing at
the right
time there there’ll be some decisions
that have to be made there’s supposed to
be rain at church on next Thursday
Friday Saturday horses are due on the
grounds for the Derby by 11:00 a.m. next
Saturday at Churchill Downs so horses
like ferson who are based in Florida may
have to do their last work out of the
state before they come in so we’ll see
what guys like Tod Pletcher decide and
they’re watching the weather very
closely at Churchill Downs yeah and I
think they should but you know what if
the weather is uh that close on the
final workout it might be that close on
Derby day as well so they might behoove
them to go ahead and go down there and
try that workout over an off track just
to see how they will favor on the off
track that Churchill has so we’ll wait
and see about that all right you got two
sheets today Keenan and San Anita uh do
you have a thought at all about the oak
law handicap
not not really Ralph been basically
working on a lot of other things today
so I’m going to sit back and let those

started with of course Keenan and of
course two stakes races there if you

it uh as far as the Kean stakes races in
the grade two elorn that’s the eighth

in there he won a mile and a half at
Kean in the fall back for the mile and a
half race today I think you single him
and work around him in the late pick
five and that is of course the elorn
stakes eighth race on the card and the
Ben
Oli and the Ben alley uh I think Kings
Barnes he won at Gulf Stream Park he
wasn’t impressive off the layoff last
time but he wants two turns so he
stretches out today and I think you’re
going to see a better version of him
he’s going to have to be better I think
time for trouble maybe the one he has to
worry about most in the Ben alley all

the right horse that’s number three
Cloud Walker so impressive winning his
debut at Keelan last fall comes back
with a really solid work tab a Turf
course you know this horse likes and
facing older horses coming off the
layoff but I don’t think it’s going to
matter 9 to2 in the program number three
Cloud Walker race number four at Keelan
well with your selection there along
with Richie we turn that as the Good
Housekeeping seal of approval from
handicappers for the fourth race on
number three cloud Walker both
handicappers land on that horse and the
fourth race the three Cloud Walker
richang and John lindo’s pick off the
Linder report fourth race at Keen Keenan
the three h we might be able to use that
horse in a very bulky field as a
Singleton in the early pick four and
leag pick five San Anita before we get
to Sanita real quick any thoughts about
the racing
yesterday uh I thought the outside was
where you wanted to be on that main
track it looked like you had to be off
the rail so we’ll see if that continues
today and with the pick six carry over
we’re playing for some added money in
there so and it’s a playable pick six
you’ve got a couple of very strong
favorites in the stakes races there
today so I don’t think it’s going to
take a big ticket to hit this pick six
and what about big Buzz’s win yesterday
wow tough old horse he’s been around a
long long time and he got the pace he
needs he needs a fast pace to set him up
and he got it and nice to see that old
horse in the winter Circle again all
right so we got 20 seconds left to get a
pick for San Anita ninth race at San
Anita number three thornhouse has been
on the turf lady lately he’s a better
horse on dirt lot good race lot of speed
but this horse is tactical 5 to2 in the
program number three Thorn housee race
nine San Anita all right in the ninth
race again number three thornhouse the
three and the ninth race at San Anita is
John lindo’s pick for the race day
