uh we are here at Northwood
Park uh for the first major of the 2024
season yes and of course we have a guest
and we’ll bring him in here in a second

a newly designed layout that apparently
makes Northwood black look easy that’s
not true but it it’s probably three
Strokes harder than Northwood black
let’s bring four or four let’s bring in
our guest we’ve had him once before and
that was for the 2022 World Championship
warm-up round so he’s only a guest for
Majors because he’s a major guy yeah
this this is a big deal uh you know him

course yeah I don’t know if I am but
we’re going to do it anyways uh let’s
show the fans what they can win this

it all right the the yulman said that he
was here yesterday practice a course and
this is one of the only birdie holes you
get
okay hole one is 455 ft and it’s
downhill it’s par three um you’re going
to see some forehands thrown uh this
flex line out to the right and you’re
going to see some backhand mids or
Fairway drivers thrown down to the left
side you have to be aware of the out-
of- bounds that’s left um other than
that it’s a pretty decently wide Fairway
considering what we’re about to see for
the rest of the day oh my God everything
aches and I’m pretty sure I’m
dying of old
age just like the rest of us all right
but we are throwing two off the te
Tennessee 2 yep and you know the deal

funny but I think it’s kind of
interesting I literally had no interest
in switching Putters I showed up to the
Charlotte putting League without my
normal
fireflies and Brandon Reed who’s one of
the couple guys that runs the the league
let me borrow his putter and they were
Valerie mondano Nexus avars okay and I
missed like one putt that night and
maybe like two putts the next week when
I use them again I was like all right
I’m I’m sold these things are sick
that’s usually how it goes yeah just
like you know throw a wrench in the
system and let
it I mean they’re whatever they’re very
similar I mean those are just tick
straighter and tick more wide right yep
it just allows me to like putt from from
70 ft to 100 ft without jumping I can
just spin it yeah I saw that putt on 18
last week that was sick that was a a
career moment man that was so much fun
so much fun knowing the situation know I
had knowing I had like one stroke to
give up and still not have to worry
about dropping a spot for sure gave me a
little extra
confidence we’re on to Hole two it’s a
par 4 580 ft and I believe that this is
hole that is unchanged actually it’s
pretty hard but it’s one of the easier C
holes on the course uh just throw
something up top I believe this is the
hole that Drew Gibson threw in on uh
around 2021
so let’s play it is he still looking he
said he was going to cross that Creek
and that Creek’s
deep oh no we see him floating down a
minute he goes under the bridge there

maybe course it’s full of unexpected

yeah what’s going on dude you’ve been
you’ve been away for how long and what
youve been doing and yeah I got a what’s
new man pulled off I played a full SE or
mostly full season last year that yeah I
actually was pretty proud of um I
finished fifth in the pro tour standings
um but did you really still yeah and how
many events did you end up having in to
this I mean not not that many I still
played like 20 21 events for the year oh
did you really yeah so a pretty full
season last year um but just dealing
with some underlying shoulder
instability um so the whole the whole
year I kind of knew that all arrows were
pointing towards some sort of uh
procedure iend fix it now or fix it now
worse orus wor yeah I mean I’m kind of
at the the midpoint in my career so to
speak and I want to I want to have that
second part be really solid
so I got a I got a shoulder surgery and
been rehabbing it all offseason uh been
training extensively to get everything
back where it needs to be and I was
hoping for a return last week at Music
City Y but uh life has a way of showing
its teeth sometimes and mess up my back
just not unrelated unrelated to disol
set me back a little bit but uh I’m
feeling a lot better now and really
excited to start at Northwood black I
know yeah Northwood like like midnight
Northwood midnight Northwood I can’t see
anything
tournament look what disc I’m throwing

hole three is a par five 947 ft you have
a tight Gap off the te you’re going to
want to drift something from left to
right with a fairway driver maybe even a
mid-range sidearm plays you got to land
it in the center here because your next
shot is going to be pushing the end of
this Fairway and you want it to go left
and then you want it to roll just not
into the woods where it always rolls
when I throw it you want it to just keep
going the other way and then you do like
a little hook shape your face in the
basket there’s one tree in the way hit
that and you got yourself one of those
good old Bogies I remember the
oldfashioned days when if I said more
than six words on the whole breakdown
you were just looking at the camera we
never had part fives back
then no we
didn’t the abbreviated breakdown segment
was a big part of our
program bro that was
short you talking about which direction
the disc might roll like
I was just I had flashbacks dude I don’t
know I have freaking
trauma Oh that’s
trtic oh he should be able to see it is
down the fair

weekend like Friday showed 99%
we might have a clear Thursday I’m in a
99 percentile
but if that is the
case this could be like one of the
longest weekends in disf
history
agree these rounds could last like 5
hours see you 24-hour rounds if there’s
like one lightning delay League card is
not finishing the round in the light no
no no this course is already known for
being like taking the longest of all the
courses rain slows everyone down we’re
going to be a whole 12 for like 4 hours
so you don’t know about it and I got to
say it cuz I’m I’m I’m a little
bit I’m a little bit saddened by
this
but uh this event was originally as we
all know was originally supposed to be
played in Augusta or at in Appling at
the idgc but they had those Beetle
infestation and they had to tear down a
bunch of trees at Jackson and it’s
really sad cuz everyone loved that
course but they originally scheduled
this event to be played in
November or last weekend in October one
of the
two
and everyone kind of revolted they
didn’t like the idea of playing
tournaments past the disc golf pro tour
finale and so they rescheduled it this
weekend and this is the weekend of my
20e high school reunion and I’m missing
it so I want to give a quick shout out
to the Myers Park Mustangs Class of
2004 I’m missing you guys but have a
great time this week I’ll be there in
spirit oh my

just um I feel bad about myself oh okay

been like some rain but it’s mostly just
been like windy

back all week and the last thing I want

is jeopardize this weekend

been watching this tournament for a long
time or at least the uh the ledg stone
you may remember this hole but we have
skipped ahead to Hole seven we’re going
to play an abbreviated practice round I
a’t nobody got time for this um but this
is a dead straight
562t par 4 if you’re off left or right
might not be able to save well you’re
definitely not getting your birdie it
might be hard to save your uh your
par but yeah I mean you what you see is
what it does all the way down to the the
pin it just slightly goes over that hill
and that’s it I mean there’s OB left
here but other than
that straight as it can
be
aggro fantastic shot sir wow spicy
s that butt ah you’re
wet that’s fine oh in the middle too
nice look at us look what we’re talking
about in home insurance and deductibles
I’m just happy know I got humongous
trees in my yard you do you yeah you got

microburst happen right over our house

it a little bit but I think the Matrix
is my best Prospect that’s like one of
the OG discs yeah it’s uh one of their
first ones in 2013 uh when pry first
came out we were allowed to throw a
mixed bag and I remember going to
Spinners on the Green in Arizona and
buying a matrix cuz I was like
everyone’s talking about this Matrix
let’s see how it flies I feel like you’d
really like it the just the way the rim
feels for forehand oh really I I don’t
remember anything about the disc at this
point I’ll let you feel it in a sec I
remember it felt kind of like a rock
right isn’t that the one that’s no it’s
like Prodigy M4 is oh the maybe it
wasn’t a matrix that I’m thinking about

it yeah yeah that kind of reminds me of
like old meteor in a way a lot more
stable though a lot more stable
yeah to if this is a real tournament
you’d be winning by
35 and I’d be in second at one over paw
I’d be I don’t even know what I’m at

more so you’re going to want to it’s all
about how much you want to bite off and
uh it’s going to be interesting I think
this one you could really rack up a big
score on if you’re not careful

a golf ball straight into the hole at

could fly basket only makes up this much
space if you put it in the center of it
I m I will always argue that I I prefer
this staying in regardless of the speed

that but my point is that’s not the case

I wish that it a little light would just

guess what happens at 80 ft you’re
throwing it hard Brad have I had a spit
out since you’ve been on the

happen I sometimes I slice through if I
have too much Hiser but for the most
part sounds like somebody’s had got a
spit out coming
soon 3 years without a spit out and it’s
not like I’m missing a bunch
uhuh outside the circle I think you put
harder so you have a better chance you
hard to gauge it because we’re putting
on so many different kinds of basket
it’s like yeah you need way better speed
control putting on a veteran but this
you need no speed control you need the
opposite you need to I mean you need
speed control you need to putt hard
harder yep I mean like gon dude the guy
from 8 ft hammers it in I’m sorry I’m
not I am not sad when it comes back to
him the bomb does too who’s the bomb

oh you know if you come to me and you
and you go like this as hard as you can
what’s going to happen it’s going to

3s oh my God oh my it honestly wasn’t
that long ago that we still played like
national tour Elite series on Mark 3s
yeah that’s that’s crazy now there are
some like there was one from uh Isaac
last year that was absolutely ridiculous
like that happens for sure but for the
most part A lot of these putts that I’m
seeing that people are freaking out
about I’m like you putt it 300 miles
hour at the basket like you’re taking
that risk it’s a skill I agree with that
but I think as this conversation keeps
being had it at some point we really
just need a standard of basket like like
chain star Pro it’s a phenomenal basket
I you know what it’s so funny you know
what basket catches every single put no
matter
what those stupid cloth ones oh yeah
yeah there’s you’re not going to have a
cut through there oh The Traveler basket
they never they never they never SP you
could hit the cage and roll over the rim
in nice dude birdie wow you one time I
uh this is a true story I’m playing a
league where there’s like a $300 Ace
pool yeah and we’re playing on a
combination normal baskets and the
traveler baskets and I hit the ace on a
normal basket and I’m all pumped up and
one of the last holes Michael Johansson
hits low cage and it flips over the rim
and in and we split the ace pool it was
the most frustrating split ever that
thing just splitting Ace BS is like the
most Bittersweet thing in splitting a BS
is a bummer unless you’re the guy who
does it second even if you’re the guy
who does it second and still a little
bit right right
right eagle why are you putting with a
pa4 no not that
one did you ever do the uh another
schwey reference here you ever done the
weby thing where you just practice with
a wet hand so that way you don’t have to
worry about trying to dry your I have
gone through a phase like that yeah yeah
like just putt through it like who cares
like you’re not going to get it
completely Dy my problem is is I can’t
dry my hand off for the
drive yeah well my I think an issue that
I suffer from when it’s really wet is
that my discs get too dry if I dry them
off and then they don’t have that normal
oil and they almost get slick cuz
they’re too dry that happens this is our
sixth hole today but it is whole 10 it’s
722
ft it is an interesting one very low
ceiling to a gap that you have to like
land short of because it skinnies out
down a really tight Fairway downhill to
the left so it’s kind of like a another
hook shape I’ve seen people go over the
parking lot on Hiser to get into
position I’ve also seen sidearms low I’m
going to go with a roller to try to get
in position but this is just a great par
if you can get it it’s a very technical
tricky hole same hole as before yeah as
years ago yes okay they just moved this
tead really yeah this is back the T Tad
used to be up there
yeah oh my gosh why did they move it so
far back um make it harder for all of us
but it was already hard
yeah yeah for sure it was already really
hard for
sure all right I got to hit it
there is it g to stand
up should oh

look with this one um but if you do
throw back in it’s going to be a Hiser
flip that just holds and turns the whole
way everyone else is going to be
challenging there’s a couple trees in
the middle left side or right side as
long as you don’t hit one you’re fine
par in this hole is good early kick
rights what you see a lot and that’s
normally proceeded with a boogey or
double

think that’s the main thing in Northwood
is when you play here you have to have
the best mental mindset of any place on
tour you got to be resilient you’ve got
to be patient and you got to learn to
love the back kicks cuz if you get
annoyed with them you’re toast you’re
