well South Carolina state does have the
tiebreaker over Howard but this is a
crucial key game in the M conference
well it’s November and in November you
know key games come up and it only take
one step up or one big win and your back
in contention let’s take a look at our
cricket impact players of the day here
today and how about jawar how the FCS
offensive player of the week a week ago
against Harold Howard nearly 300 yards
rushing he’s got seven touchdowns in the
last three games and then you look at
Elijah Williams the defensive tackle he
has got six on the year it’s going to be
the running back against that defensive
front of Morgan State well I think it’s
November it’s raining it’s cold it’s
football weather you got an offensive
player versus a defensive player I don’t
think you can ask for a better
matchup and you take a look at Oliver
buddy pew at Oliver C Dawson Stadium his
final game here on Willie Jeff field
he’s been the head coach since 2002 150
wins 92 losses and look at that me

football coach in South Carolina State
football history and it his final home
game you take a look at the home record
81 and 26 3 and two of course this year
he’s outscored opponents 128 and 108 at

you have talked with him many times what
do you think’s going through his mind
right now well I think the rain is a a
resemblance of how he’s feeling now cuz
coach is he’s a sensitive guy so he’s
probably going to be crying so the mood
for the day probably is set with the
rain here so coach buddy Pew getting
ready to do it one final time here at
South Carolina state still of course one
more game on the Slate next week they’ll
finish out the season but the Bulldogs
and the Bears meeting at Midfield and an
interesting series here that South
Carolina state has dominated it’s the
43rd alltime meeting between the schools
Bulldogs at 347 and one the dogs have
won 13- 15 but last year Morgan State
won up in Baltimore at 41 to 14 just a a
bad game for South Carolina state all
around turned the ball over a couple
times in the first quarter and they
could never recover but this is a big
game for both these teams they are
locked in second place tied with Howard
at two- one in M play they all need a
win today where everybody is chasing
North Carolina Central so uh what you’re
hoping is North Carolina Central will
have a slip up and then you can have a
three or 2 a tide and then you go points
over or things of that nature so
everybody still have something to play
for still into this day this is a big
game for both the Bulldogs and the Bears
and I’m just going to go ahead and get
this out the way folks to take a line
from you
partner this is the kind of game that
coach buddy Pew wants right it is wet it
is rainy it is cold run the dag gum
football and stop the dag gum run that
is Buddy ball if you’ve ever seen it all
his 22 years we’re as a former offensive
lineman that’s been his module if you
can run the football you got a chance to
win and then if you can stop the r you
got a chance to win so today one of
those two going to happen or maybe both
of them happen so you take a look at
Cory Fields The Graduate out of
Hollywood South Carolina he will be your
starter on senior day there’s a number
of things going on today here in
Orangeburg and of course is senior day
for a number of special seniors and it’s
also as we’ll talk about throughout the
broadcast buddy Pew day city of
Orangeburg and the Unity made that
happen for this to be a special day for
Buddy as it will be the final time as
you take a look at an autograph football
there the final time and this was before
the game for all the seniors a te ey
Cory fields and a lot of those seniors
that have been here a long time you know
these guys have battled a lot talk about
through Co you know they got that extra
year because of the pandemic and they
decided to stay one more year and play
another year of college football for
Buddy as you take a look at the senior
and you know Cory Fields didn’t have to
do a whole lot with J Hal running the
football but he’s going to be expected
to make some big plays on passing Downs
against a very physical Morgan State
Defense well trying to throw the ball in
wet uh conditions with a wet ball and
things of that nature is going to be a
challenge to them but I think at the end
of the day they’re going to put the
football in jaan’s hand and see if Jawan
can bring a victory home today Jaan how
as we talked about our cricket impact
player for the Bulldogs FCS offensive
player of the week a week ago against
power 283 yards On The Ground Three
touchdowns but here’s the stat that
blows my mind in the last three games
he’s rushed for over 520 yards and seven
touchdowns give me another player in all
of college football FBS FCS whatever you
want to throw out that’s done just that
the Freshman from Morrisville has been
phenomenal well he’s been great and he’s
peing at the right time you know we just
talked about that a little earlier teams
that can Peak at the right time where
he’s peing at the right time and right
now I think he’s feeling confident
offensive line is blocking so it’s going
to with state is going to need him to
have a good day so it’ll be Morgan State
as you see there the white tops and dark
pants South Carolina state of course in
the garnet tops and white pants having a
bit of a delayed start here not sure
exactly what that’s
about but nonetheless it gives you an
opportunity to talk about this South
Carolina State team a team that is
coming off one of their best
performances uh of the Season against
Howard you know Geron Hal was I was
looking at the numbers
because I was curious when I saw 283 he
was about 50 yard off the Record held
here in South Carolina state a player
that you helped coach a long time ago
back in 2007 yep will Ford uh will Ford
actually has the record and um has had
that like you say now for the past 15 16
years and Jan was close to it and Jan
might have his eyes set on it
today so about 45 yards or so off that
record a week ago against Howard and
we are waiting for EMS to show up as our
producers tell us so we will stand by
right here and get ready to go between

here on ESPN plus and the Mak digital
Network you know gives me an opportunity
to tell you that I watched the Mak video
conference with all the coaches and we
were talking about this before we came
on air this broadcast is going to be a
lot about Buddy PW it’s his final home
game they asked him some very tough
questions and throughout all those
questions buddy was getting a little
emotional he it it almost as if it was
starting to hit him that this is it that
this is the final home game he will have
as a coach not just for his family his
friends watching him these players and
all the players that came before him
well you got to imagine I mean he’s a
South Carolina state Al he’s you played
here and to be able to have your last
game it’s like these seniors and when
you have that senior night it kind of
put all things in perspective like this
is the last time that I’m going play
game in the stadium so I expect him to
be emotional today as you take a look
at coach buddy Pew we’ve got some extra
footage with some time to kill waiting
for EMS to show that we caught in the
locker room that I thought was just
phenomenal and I’m so happy our cameras
caught this inside the locker room
before they walked out to the field

you took a look at the shot inside the
locker room you’ve been in there many
times what is that like getting ready to
come out coach does a good job of
getting his team ready to play you know
he get him locked in and get him focused
get him ready to come out and I’ll be
honest with you 22 years ago we would
have had to do that on a tape delay
because we would have had to go in and
beep out some of the stuff that he might
have said doing that but coach has went
you know he’s been through a maturation
process over the past 22 years so now we
can go live in the locker room with him
now you know the thing about Coach buddy
Pew he always does seem a little more
relaxed than the next guy you know he’s
done all the work he’s put in the game
plan and he’s done this a long time but
there’s always that relaxed feeling uh
before a game and I guess that’s just
the veteran in him or that might be just
the laid-back nature that he has well he
he always feel that if you uptight or
you’re nervous on game day then you
didn’t do what you needed to do during
the week you know so if you’re prepared
and you’ve had a great week of
preparation there’s no need to be
uptight or nervous on game day you know
it’s come out and play now show the
people what they come to see I remember
once I interviewed you before a playoff
game for the Fairfield Central Griffin
and you said something that I’ve always
taken with me the coaches have done all
you can do we’ve done all we can do it’s
up to the players now it’s up to them
it’s up to the players it’s up to the
execution and you hope what you’ve done
during the week you know we correlate
and go out to the field and but I mean
football is a game that you never know
from each snap how it’s going to go we
can talk a little bit about this Morgan
State team they’re going to start a
freshman today Taj Smith 62 190 lb
freshman he was the Mak rookie of the
week with two touchdown passes against
Delaware State this team has played five
quarterbacks overall they have had
trouble not just at the quarterback
position but offense overall they’ve
been a a very physical fast defense they
uh have been able to compete in games
because of their defense but offense it
has been a big struggle they’ve turned
the ball over 15 times well and you know
the last time we talked about a a team
that had a bunch of quarterbacks and
they start a freshman quarterback we
here versus Tennessee Tech and that guy
came on and he actually caught uh Chris
MC creen with the light on it I mean it
was hot that day and he was able to stop
and get what he needed and he actually
was the guy that won that game for
Tennessee Tech that
day yeah the Bulldogs had problems with
Tennessee Tech and that fabulous
freshman as you take a look at Taj Smith
another freshman coming into Orangeburg
here at Willie Jeff field and still a
delay if you’re wondering why we have
not kicked this one off we are waiting
for EMS uh traffic wet rainy delay uh
that is what we are in so we will step

field the final home game in the
coaching career of Buddy Pew so Morgan
State will kick it off and we’ll see the
Bulldog offense with a heavy dose of our
cricket impact player jaar how on the
field for the first
time a high and deep kick for the Bears
South Carolina state takes it behind the
10 and slips and Falls around the 15 and
got a feeling we’re going to see a lot
of that today yeah I think the fields a
little slippery but one thing I will say
you know that Turf drains pretty good so
as the game go on it look like the rain
is trying to uh go down a little bit so
the field should drive a little bit more
as the game go shamonte Burgess on the
return so this will be the South
Carolina State
offense number one in the miak and
rushing
226 yard per game that’s getting it done
partner that is called running the
football and that’s believing in the run
you know and staying with the run you
know just taking Jabs at a time and then
you get a big play from here and
there so here is the handoff straight
ahead and it’s a short gain up the
middle about four or five yards and in a
game like this you’re okay with that on
first down four or five yards picking it
up that’s actually going to be Tyler
Smith the freshman at a Gaffney well a
lot of times you know you say a run of
three yards is a successful run because
if you get three those and you know now
you got one yard now if you want to go
for it on fourth down so a lot of the
old school option teams all they want
was three yards clip they give him four
second down and six here in the shotgun
with three receivers and here’s the give
to Tyler Smith and he gets tripped up
close to the first down yard marker out
across the 25 yd line now the Bulldogs
will send out two different Tyler Smiths
there’s of course the one here from
Gaffney and another talented Tyler Smith
from bar well both have very strong
American first names Tyler I guess
that’s what you’re talking about that’s
me too so new set Downs first and 10
they do move the sticks with Tyler Smith
two receivers right one left we’re just
getting started here on the meak digital
Network on ESPN plus between the
Bulldogs and the
Bears hands off to Smith again up the
middle and you know coach Pew and this
offensive staff making no mistake about
what they’re going to do today running
right at this physical Bears defensive
front led by one of our cricket impact
players Elijah Williams the 63 270lb Jr
he is a force inside with 43 tackles on
the year and traditionally Morgan has
always been big and physical inside you
know they always got big defensive
linemen always have big linebackers that
can run and move around a little bit so
you know over the years Morgan always
have been a team that you didn’t want to
play phone
Bo so second down and
nine another give and another short gain
for Tyler Smith still have not seen jaar
how we did not hear of any sort of
injury situation or anything like that I
talked with the radio voice of the South
Carolina State Bulldogs Ernest Robinson
and he did tell me that they understand
that there were some players out from
Morgan State but they weren’t sure who
they said there might have been some
sickness this week for that club out of
Baltimore and he said we won’t really
know until we see who comes out on the
field out of the shotgun four
receivers a classic spread now here for
the Bulldogs on a passing down third and
seven 1221
remaining Fields drops back good pocket
throws over the middle and that is
incomplete broken up on the play by
Morgan
State well done there that was Jordan
tols I was curious if we were going to
see him early that is a LSU transfer
with 48 tackles on the year he’s a
senior and watch this play here yeah
it’s a great play of him breaking on the
football and breaking it up on a big uh
third down conversion when he starts the
game you know you get a chance to get a
little momentum get your defense off the
field so a big time transfer out of the
SEC into the Mak making a play on third
down for the Morgan State
Bears this will be maxion C booting it
away a high deep kick Fair caught around
the 34 yd line so it’ll be our first
look at the Morgan State offense and you
know that’s a guy we haven’t talked
about a whole lot but maxion Cobbs had a
really good year he’s averaged 38 yards
per Punt and feels like he’s gotten
better as the year has gone on he’s been
a good weapon for the Bulldogs and
special teams a great pter as a def a
best friend you know if you can flip the
field and make offenses have to go
longer then of course that helped the
defense out in the noral run so here’s

freshman and he hails out of
Fredericksburg Virginia Rock Creek
Christian High School he was the Mak
rookie of the week against Delaware
state with two
touchdowns to lift the Bears in the
wind so it’s going to be a short gain
there might have actually
only got to the original line of
scrimmage and that’s another thing we’ll
talk about as we go along Demetrius
Davis is this defensive front for South
Carolina state and how much better
they’ve played here in the later part of
the season and over the years
traditionally South Carolina State’s
always been good up front you know with
the defensive line with the jaon greens
and some of those guys of the world so
you know to be able to get the defensive
line playing better to actually give
your linebackers a chance to fit and do
things a little differently second down
and nine they did give him a yard Smith
back to pass throws over the middle
caught by the receiver picks up the
first down and more and that appeared to
be Joseph AI out of Springdale
Maryland take a look at the cricket
replay yeah that was Joseph W I’m glad
you attacked that name first because I’m
pretty sure I would have chopped that
all up Jaden Jones on the tackle and
Jaden’s been one of the better tacklers
for the Bulldogs last couple of weeks
he’s got 31 stops on the season first
and
10 hand off off tackle not much going
there and you know coach we talked about
this before the game this is what we’re
going to see we’re going to see a
physical brand and style of running is
oh no JJ Davis limping off to the
sideline he’s one of the top skill guys
for the
Bears right it’s going to be a game to
test the patience of your fans test
patience because it’s going to be a it’s
a heavyweight fight you know probably
not going to be a lot of Knockouts but
it’s going to be a bunch of body
blows so second down and nine is
hopefully Davis wasn’t too serious if
you’re a Morgan State fan for sure he’s
one of the top skill guys for them and
it’s going to be a hand off straight
ahead didn’t see who got that carry but
it was a short gain on the play third
down and long it sets
up that was jabriel Johnson out of
Baltimore Maryland MCD High
School

is averaging about four yards a carry
but hasn’t got a whole lot of
opportunities behind JJ Davis but when
he has he’s done well third down and

sideline it appears they’re resetting
don’t like what they saw on defense back
in the shotgun for wide
outs Smith back to pass being chased now
he’s going to run 45 40 still on his
feet 35 down the sideline out of bounds
and a third and eight becomes a new set
of downs inside Bulldog territory well
the difference in those first drives in
third and long South Carolina state
couldn’t convert and on Morgan’s first
one they was able to convert and keep
the offense on the
field seemed like the Bulldogs had
everybody covered down field and there
was no spy on the
quarterback so first and 10 inside the
30 that what makes a d threat
quarterback so dangerous you know you
got everybody covered down field and
they can use their feet to get the first
down so an extra Blocker in there on
this spread run as the back gets it for
another short gain it has been tough
sledding into that interior of the
defense you take a look at Patrick
godbolt there for 43 out of bwood one of
the many seniors for South Carolina
state and of course you see Michael
Brunson who’s had a good 2023 season
second down and
nine for
receivers Bulldog spread
out Smith looks across the
defense going to hand it off in a big ho
oh and he’s brought down for another
first down run near the 15 yd line and
that was jabriel
Johnson what South Carina State Defense
needs to do at this point is you want to
have a b but don’t break mentality now
you know you get guys you can see Aaron
Smith gets him down there and now this
is where you got to you kind of beend
your back and got to say all right guys
now we got to get a stop here yeah this
is an offense that has really struggled
this year we talked about Morgan State’s
defense keeping them competitive keeping
them game for the season they’re only
averaging 17 points per
contest and they’re knocking on the door
here on their first offensive
possession Smith under Center this time
going to hand off to the back before
he’s drug down inside the 15 yd line you
know this offensive front is Big left
tackle Kari Finley 65 285 he’s only a
freshman dour Dixon a 64300 a sophomore
their lone senior on the front is their
senior uh Center Dexter card Jr 63 315
they got another 63 guy at right tackle
Trayvon Branch so they are big and beefy
on front they are big and that’s like I
say that’s a traditional Morgan
offensive line they’re normally big guys
they don’t miss meals what you’re
saying second down at seven ball inside
the 15 from Oran State clock ticking
637 and Smith’s going to keep it he’s
brought down in the back field nowhere
to go not sure if that was a broken play
but godo was in there to clean it
up we talked about Patrick earlier you
know being from Blackwood South Carolina
being senior night playing one his last
games and you can see him squeeze what a
great job of him squeezing that tackle
there and coming off making that uh play
that’s that’s textbook and playing
defensive end I heard a coach used this
line once for a player that he had and
I’m going to uh steal it he’s a walking
tackle for loss and any time you see 43
chances are it’s a tfl well let me tell
you something you want that guy on the
bus with
you third down and

Morgan State and this SC State
Defense doaj drops back being chased oh
ball loose ball is loose Bulldog’s going
to get it I think they’ve got it Bulldog
football and that’s what we talked about
Tyler you got to be patient B but don’t
break it have to be your mentality there
to look like a guy from Chester South

hit put on by a bears Defender trying to
see who that

Jordan tols that young man who transfer
from LSU as we take a look at the

that is you got to stay out of third and

made his name at boy state right and

Morgan State to kind of build and he’s
in his second year 7even and 12 overall
here with the Bears and Coach buddy Pew
had nothing but respectful and nice
things to say about Coach Damon Wilson
where coach Dam Wilson you know pretty
much turned buy into a CIAA power you
know so he’s a coaching machine it’s
just going to take him a little time and
he’s going to turn this program around
at
Morgan and 23rd season for Coach Wilson
96 wins 57 losses overall in his
career we’ll hear from coach Wilson a
little bit in the broadcast had some
nice things to say about Coach buddy
Pew clock entering under four four to
play here and the rain has picked up oh
boy Tosh Smith going to hand it off near
side and trying to see where they spot
that football jablonsky green was in
there to force the stop we should
mention this Demetrius Davis as we take
a look at the cricket replay it’s good
to see JJ Davis back in Action he had
limped to the sideline earlier in the
contest we see our cricket impact player

Bulldog we we just learned that uh

the assistant coaches and Sid Kendrick
Lewis so that is a big blow for the
Bulldogs we’re not sure what
happened but nonetheless how not

Bears we talked about it earlier you
know it’s big when you can stay on the
field and get a new set of downs it’s
kind of like getting a mulligan and golf

cold though it’s not as cold yeah in as

snow and this is going to be JJ getting

Pew excited coach Pew is a legend he’s a
guy that man I had an opportunity to
work with to the Celebration Bowl L uh
well two years ago and man it was a
blessing you know as as a coach coming
up in his profession you know you watch
the Buddy pews of the world the Steve
Wilson of the world Pete Richardson uh
coach jeffre you watch those guys and uh
man Class Act and uh if if at the end of
the day my career can be just as as half
as good as his I feel as though I was a
successful
coach so appreciate coach Damon Wilson
saying those kind words about Coach

press conference this week as we start
this second quarter of play we are
scoreless between Morgan State and South
Carolina State Bulldogs with the
football facing a third down and five

field Cory back to throw and that is
incomplete and we got two flags down
here in the back

almost seemed like a dead ball
play oh wow hands to the face on defense
as the white hat tells you I didn’t see
that but it seemed like Cory knew
something cuz he just kind of threw that
out almost as if he thought they were
going to go ahead and call
that right so what happened there uh the
defender took Nick taste helmet off
hands to the face and his helmet got off
now normally if your helmet come off in
the game you’re supposed to come out for
a play but if it’s forced off you can
stay so basically what defens just told
us that his helmet was forced off so
Nick tasty can stay in the game you saw
coach Wilson’s numbers there as a head
coach and there’s the yeah there’s the
helmet coming off good call there
coach out of the shotgun snap for Cory
fields in this Bulldog offense inside
bear territory I think that’s the first
first time this
afternoon Fields looks across the
defensive front and gives it off to
Tyler Smith not much doing there but I
think the ball came loose ball came
loose and the Bears have it Bears have
the football still on their feet Flags
come in this thing got messy but it
appears at the moment it’s going to be

Carolina state as the officials are

and it’ll be Morgan State football at
Midfield and and I told you it’s was
going to be a game of patience and the
the goal for each team needs to be to
end every drive with a kick that kick
either e either can be a Pat or it can
be a punt you know but what you don’t
want to do is turn the football over
these

Damon Wilson’s resumee is Morgan State
just put six on the board over South
Carolina state you brought up an
interesting statistic about these
numbers compared to coach buddy Pew well
if you look at it he’s in his 24th year
you know and he has an outstanding
record which I think is great with 96
wins and 57 losses but if you compare
coach Pew in 22 years coach Pew have 150
wins and 92 losses I mean you know that
just shows how uh impressive if coach
Pew’s record and resume is here at South
Carolina state and make no mistake about
it you mentioned it earlier Damon Wilson
did a phenomenal job at buy State making
them a power in the CIAA doing a great
job there in a short time period with
that program and now trying to build
something here at Morgan State well I
mean as a high school coach you learn
and you appreciate to win one football
game takes a lot you know and a lot of
times I think we feel like uh schools or
program are just supposed to win week
week in and week out but it takes a lot
man just to win one football game so for
him to win 9 and6 and for Coach PW have
150 both of them are two outstanding
coaches what I’ve learned as a sports
caster calling high school on Friday
some college on Saturdays it is hard to
win a football game because everybody’s
good especially when you get to the
playoffs in high school everybody’s good
so here’s a run by Cory fields and you
know this could be the answer to this
offense for the Bulldogs Cory Fields has
run more this year than he has in his
entire Bulldog career he’s got well over
200 yards rushing on the season and when
he’s been cut loose he’s been lethal
yeah he’s been good this year with his
feet using his feet or getting uh
offense out of trouble or just extending
the play he’s been good with
that so here’s the handoff Straight
Ahead not much doing there and it is
going to be tough running in the middle
of this line as you see one of our
cricket impact players elah Williams in
on that one you know he’s kind of a
hybrid DND tackle they have put him in
different spots he’s a very unique
player to
watch well he’s got to be
cold not exactly all covered up there is
he and any time you uh see a defensive
lineman with the number zero on he has
to be able to play I was going to ask
you about that yeah i’ I’ve heard that
over the years that if somebody on
defense is wearing zero he’s a player
he’s a baller you better believe it

pretty good once they get inside the 20
yeah I would say that’s pretty efficient
you want to be efficient in the red zone
to get some kind of points on the board

a really good last couple of games here

Aiden Weber seems like whenever there’s

to the one but was there a flag down as

appreciate that’s penalty because it’s a
legal
procedure false start instead of that
ball being on the one yard line
wow so actually Morgan State catch a
break there with their legal procedure
with the motion penalty because now it’s
just third and 15 now as opposed to ball
being on the one yard line so look at
that out of his
hands has there ever been a great time
to see a false start that might be the
only time right there that’s it it’s the
only time first time in history you say

contact so look at this looks like a
punt safe here for Morgan State trying
to be wary of the block that is a short
punt not a good punt at all that is
going to set up the Bulldogs in great

Bulldogs will have it here out of the

talked about much here in this first
half is the play of this South Carolina
state offensive line coming in I mean we
talked about over 350 yards rushing last
week against Howard Jaren how had 283 of
that but Nick tast Eric Brown Jr Trey
Franklin Ian shark cam Johnson have all
played phenomenal Dallas Ford in that
mix as well he got nicked up in that
game but he’s had a great
season here’s the pitch Far Side couple

is having some big runs well we talked
about that running back room they have
got four guys that legit can get I me

Defense I’m sure you’ve noticed that as
well trying to disguise what they’re
doing and Fields going to keep it
himself and just get brought down around

up a third down for the Bulldogs they’re
36 of 103 on third down

so clock is at 612 and it is
running well the clock is running and it
is raining you can see that the the rain
is really picking up um which at this
point you know this is there a big play
here for South Carolina state now
because you need some kind of points on
the board here four receivers look at
this coach they got Kean Tony in the
slot far side of the field also got
Nigel Johnson there on the far side he’s
a big Target here in the red zone

securing it was Eric Hunter the
linebacker and that is a turnover for

you’re thinking maybe if we can hold him
to three here we find and then you get a
turnover there you can hold him to zero

dead okay these officials they have done
a heck of a job here today battling
these elements do officials get like
zebra jackets zebra Parkers do we work
on
that don’t worry about those

consistently they have not had big play

forcing turnovers and getting takeaways
putting them in good position they’ve
had an issue at quarterback playing
five different guys including TSH Smith
The
Freshman well you know the old saying is
if you got to play five quarterbacks
then you don’t have one so uh you know
that probably is a deal and i’ be honest
with you on whatever level of football
you’re playing you got to have a trigger
man so another incomplete pass for
Morgan State brings up third
down and third down is where the bearss
have struggled
31% you know and yeah I’ve got all these
numbers on these charts and I do all
this prep but when you got elements like
this it takes away all that stuff and
none of that stuff matters because
they’re
both playing against their opponent and
playing against what we’re seeing here
today with this cold dreary rainy day
and it is and it actually adds a whole
different element to the game so what
might have been a big deal you know with
dry weather really is not that big when
it’s wet or vice versa that you know at
this it’s kind of like
justv if you get a chance to get a point
get a point if not the football away and
play defense timeout for Morgan
State at the 4minute mark of this second
quarter seven to six your score South
Carolina state leads Morgan State and
appears we’ll just keep it right here
you know this is a part of the game we

minutes of the second half where you can
gain that momentum you can make that big
play that can truly be the storyline of
the game win or lose right because I
mean you if you can get something
momentum wise right before the half I
mean you’re good and then you know
coming out you can get some kind of
sustainable drive or something like that
you know that always you know make the
momentum shift your way so these four
minutes before four minutes after you
know I personally feel like probably the
biggest part of the football game
so it’s third down and 10 for the
Bears for on lineman for the
Bulldogs Taj Smith puts a Man in Motion

interesting here uh Tyler is I think the
uh penalty was illegal kicking because
the ball was on the ground but I think
it’s just going to be first and goal or

it and they give him the touchdown
Malcolm McGee listen I knew there were
going to be some sloppy plays today and
some sloppy touchdowns but the Bulldogs
will take it any way they can get it

I mean in a play like that could be the
difference it could be the difference in
the game and and we talked about that
earlier every snap every time this ball
is snapped today is something crazy can
happen so whenever you can get a
touchdown on a punt you know when all
all you expecting to do is just get the
ball back yeah but you get seven points
there and we talked about making
momentum shifts before the half you
you’re a profit that man you brought
that up and all of a sudden the moment
momentum shift to South Carolina state
boy hey huge turn of events and a swing
of momentum for the Bulldogs as we take
a look at the cricket replay oh this is
a great back angle of this
play yeah and you can see I thought they
might would have tried to call a illegal
kicking or whatever but I guess they
just let play continue and South
Carolina state was able to recover in
the end
zone the extra point is good 14-6
Bulldogs continue their lead over Morgan

Hill boy how crucial was that you know
bulldogs and bears have both have their
opportunities in their opponent’s
territory but it has been so tough
punching it in it’s been so tough really
just sustaining drives and it is and
this game we talked about it earlier I
hate to keep reiterating that but it’s
going to come down to both teams are
going to make mistakes and elements I
mean it just it’s going to happen but
whoever can make the least amount of
mistakes and whoever can capitalized the
most awful mistakes we win the football
you know we sound like broken record
here coach but you’re talking about two
of the best defenses in the Mak along
with North Carolina Central at the top
of the conference and oh by the way
you’re playing in this mess yeah and
you’re playing in this mess so
automatically if it was a dry day it
would have been tough to score and now
you have this this this wind and this
rain and all that good stuff going on
it’s really
tough so we have had fumbles we’ve had
interceptions we’ve had speci teams
touchdowns it has been a little bit of
everything here on the return for the
Bears
Bulldogs have recovered two fumbles
today to give them six for the season
Morgan State of course had that
interception earlier that was their 12th
on the
year that’s 20 takeaways for this
defense that’s pretty good if you look
at the turnover margin if you can get 20
takeaways offense only give up maybe two
or three that’s a pretty good uh
turnover margin

the Bears before the end of the half
Bears will get the football to start the
third quarter but nothing doing there as
that touchdown by the Special Teams is
only going to give more momentum to this
Bulldog defense that’s what you want you
want to get momentum there you know you
get a stop here you know you might have
an opportunity to get the ball back you
know and maybe add to this lead going
into
halftime I would expect if South
Carolina state was to get a stop here on
second down maybe get a timeout here

North Carolina he’s their leading
receiver he makes some big plays in the
passing game they try to run it here and
nothing doing and look who it is Jaden
Jones big tackle for a
loss see Jaden Jones has kind of been
the
unheralded uh defensive player for this
Bulldog
defense he’s made a lot of big plays
when they’ve mattered and been on a lot
of uh big plays have kind of changed the
game he’s a ball Hawk he’s a ball Hawk
anytime you can get a tfl you know
that’s a plus plus defense coordinates
love to chart tackle for loss I mean
that’s that’s a win situation for your
defense third down and 13 as you
see Aaron Smith calling out the
defensive signals middle of your
screen this is going to be to Smith is
going to throw this one that’s caught by
the receiver and man he picked up the
first down close to Midfield and there
he is the young man I just called the
name of trayon Pratt watch out for him
on Third and long situations bails out
his quarterback there watch this that’s
a great job extending the play you know
that’s a big first down there you know
like we said earlier South Carolina
state could have got the football back
there but uh Morgan State able to stay
on the field I apologize to Bulldog fans

Cincinnati Ohio he’s the leading rusher

season and looks like we’re going to
have a timeout called but this is by far
one of the best drives got to go all the
way back to that first quar the first
drive of the game for the
Bears and they are moving the ball down
the field trying to get something on the
board with 30 seconds left to go here in
the half but you might have to put in
the air here well I think you might have
to put in the air seconds is not a whole
lot of time you know if you run the
football and he get tackled inbounds you
know he’s probably 10 to 15 seconds

at the history of success for Coach
Oliver buddy Pew 15 winning seasons
three Coach of the Year honors two
national Coach of the Year Awards two
HBCU national titles and you know we’ve
talked about it a lot this year on the
meak digital Network how special that
one just a couple of years ago was not
just because of who it was against and
all the the publicity was on Deion
Sanders and Jackson State but the year
that they had starting what was it one
in five something like that and turning
around and winning the M getting to the
Celebration Bowl what a year that was
that was and a lot of people feel like
that probably was coach Pew’s best year
you know somebody call and asked me what
that I think was his biggest win or win
that he would always remember and I
think that would be uh that celebration
bowl and beating Jackson State there
yeah so coach buddy Pew this will be his
final home game here at Oliver C Dawson
stadium and you know you wonder if those
players in that locker room know what
this could mean I mean it to they’re
going to tell stories that hey I was a
part of the final home game in
Orangeburg for Coach buddy you feel
they’re going to remember that forever
well there there only a a a certain
amount of things that you’ll remember
forever or things that will be something
that will last forever and this will
always be his last home game so you know
those guys really love coach they they
love the fact that he brought them in so
they really want to send him out on top
and they send him out knowing that the
last time I coached the game in oliv SE
Dawson Stadium I won that’s right no
matter the conditions no matter the
conditions so we take a look at the
locker room here as those guys are

um just a ton of respect uh for how much
care and passion you had for your

the impact that you’ve made not only on
the players throughout your career but
the young coaches as well ton of wisdom
even to this day that we apply uh to our
teams here at the University of Florida

as we take a look at some of the first
half highlights of this one under the
elements and this was one of the first
drives of the game and it was a fumble
cused by Weber
as we take a look at some of the
highlights here for South Carolina state
that was the big one that set Morgan
State up for their first
touchdown yeah you can see that the Zone
re keep there that we thought might he
stepped out there but he was actually in
for a touchdown there uh you see Cory
kind of use his feet uh to make a play
there to get a little momentum going
little Quick Pass uh uh the Tyler
uh then you can come back and see that
but our big guy yeah that’s our guy Kean
Tony Kean Tony you know we’ve been a fan
of his since the first game we called
get the touchdown and that’s the big
play there I think of the have of
getting a turnover there right there uh
and then you can see the boot snap on
the punt there that actually led to a
South Carolina state touchdown so far
that wouldn’t you agree has been the
play of the game the the special teams
touchdowns we take a look at the this
was the sack by godbolt there at the
very end that was the sack that God both
was ready for
halftime so here are the first half
stats 75 rushing yards seems a little
deceiving but Josh Shaw did have some
big runs uh let’s see here nine first
downs from Morgan State they’ve had a
couple of long drives one of four on
third down for SC State three of seven
for Morgan State but look at the time of
possession that could be a key in the
second half if South Carolina State’s
going to hold on and win this game they
might need to flip that number right
they want to hold on to the ball and run
run the football and run the clock you
know the longer this game go and you
have a lead the the clock becomes your

defense so far the Bulldogs have done
just that to get this win yeah they have
and I mean we talked about it earlier
that you know you got to run the
football and even though you know you
had a fumble here or there the turnovers
kind of offset themselves there so you
know if to win this game South Carolina
State’s going to have to continue to run
the football and they’re going to have
to continue to stop the run so uh that’s
going to be the tell of the
tape so South Carolina state will kick
it off to Morgan State the difference
has been a special teams touchdown a wet
ball that went into the end zone and
picked up by Malcolm
McGee made it
14-6 and that’s truly been the
difference here and that came under four
minutes to play in that first half so
the Bulldogs will kick it
away here at Oliver C Dawson to start
this third
quarter and this is a big return
setup going Far Side around the 35 yd
line that’s where the Bears will put it
in play and you know this young man Taj
Smith The Freshman for Morgan State has
played rather well in these uh
conditions and being a Freshman on the
road he is uh he has answered the call
and done as well as he has I mean he’s
had a couple of big completions in the
passing game of course he has the team’s
loone touchdown with that little
option run for the score yeah I thought
he’s thrown the ball a lot better than I
expected him to be able to do with the
the conditions with the wet ball and
things of that nature but that says that
you know Morgan have a lot of confidence
in him you know probably says he got
some big hands also to be able to grip
that football in this wet weather so

this is a big run for Morgan State as
they pick up the first down and that is

they are and how physical they are

you have to run the football and you
forced to run the football and become

dimension yeah know another thing I
found interesting about Morgan State is
the recruiting that they’ve done they’ve
got guys from all over they’ve done a
good job recruiting there in Baltimore
as Cy Fields trying to get this one away
and that’s going to be
incomplete and that was on a third down
seven Morgan State forces the
punt you know it gives us an opportunity
to give a shout
out to
someone that has made these broadcasts

the team that the Bulldogs defeated to
make coach buddy Pew the alltime
winningest coach at the school that
would be Moran State this Bears team
we’re seeing here today back in
2019 Bulldogs won 24 to 10 to give them
win number 129 and I remember how that
ended they put him up on the
shoulders and it was also a dreary day
that day if I remember I remember it
being an overcast day there was a little
bit of rain on that afternoon as well
but I want to go back and finish our
story talking about the former interm ad
Kesha Campbell she helped make these
broadcasts Possible having it here there
was you know some talks and negotiations
and I just want to say our deepest
gratitude and thankfulness for being
here having the opportunity to call
these games L2 has been phenomenal to
work with on the home games this year
those guys are absolute rock stars and
uh Kesha did some great things here you
mentioned there here in the end zone
with the uh the VIP tents the section
there she’s done a great job with that
and uh she’s going to do so many good
things wherever she lands uh as an
athletic director in her career as
Morgan State with the hand off Far Side

him just getting a little bit a yard

wasn’t for her you know wantan us here
but she did an unbelievable job and she
did a lot in a short period of time too
and she’s a lawyer daughter of South
Carolina state and I mean she bleeds uh
Garner and blue she loves South Carolina
state so I wish her the best and like
you said uh my sentiments and thank you
to her also for getting us here
absolutely and of course South Carolina
state has the situation where because
that happened with Miss Campbell being
uh walking away you have buddy Pew as
the interim ad they’re going to have to
hire an ad and a football coach with
this being Buddy’s last ride and that’s
two are probably the most important
positions on your campus you know your
your head football coach is pretty much
the figurehead of your your school mhm
and your athletic director is the person
that runs your whole athletic um
department so uh president con and uh
some of other people here at South
Carolina state you know going to have
the work cut out for him here in the
next couple weeks so this is Josh Shaw

awesome today for South Carolina state
that is Maris Bradley well and that’s
kind of like scoring a touchdown right
here to be able to put this ball on the
two yard line in these conditions that’s
that’s something that you can build some
momentum off of Defense comes out they
see the goal line and you know that that
give them a little extra
energy that was a great job by Maris
Bradley a red shirt freshman at a
gaff I think that’s the first time we’ve
called his name all season making a big
special teams play now I know it’s
called Beamer ball when the Special
Teams makes the play is it buddy ball
too when special teams makes a play for
the Bulldogs no buddy ball is running

crucial that is playing in these wet

won the field position battle and
they’ve done it with special teams
they’ve done it with turnovers they’ve
done it with you know forcing punts
they’ve done a good job
today all start
y well with the ball being on the two
yard line it would only be marked off
half of uh half the distance so what
you’re able to do there is just decline
the penalty instead of being first down
it’s now second down and I’m going to
say coach I know it’s a jinx but I call
what I see have we had a holding penalty
today maybe you can’t hold when you’re
slipping and sliding all over the place
they can’t get a good enough grip yeah
you can’t grab the jerseys out
here but I don’t think we’ve had a
holding penalty today
nothing doing for Davis down at the one
let’s see if they give us forward
progress at the one or the two yd line
there is no room for this offense to

Connecticut I know that’s the first time
I’ve called his name but uh he has been
just about in on every play he is a for
at defensive end for this Morgan State
team see him on the far side of your

Bears that’s a great shot there the
logo and again a loss on the
play and it has been tough sledding as
Maddox once again on the stop he’s had a
good day for the bears third down and

once again we talked about is the game

don’t want to do nothing here to try to
force anything here I mean the clock
running right now really is your friend
if you’re a South Carolina State fan so
Cory fields and Josh Shaw look to the

remaining in this third quarter and this
Bulldog defense is being asked again uh
yet again in to make a stop on this bear
offense that had that big 55 plus yard
touchdown run from JJ Smith but here’s
the thing if they’re going to take the
lead here they got to go the distance of
the football field right so right now
you know it’s still a field possession
game you know and the defense has pretty
much had the same uh method of of
working all day of bending but not
breaking you know give up a couple yards
but you don’t get any points for yards
in football

get some positive yards to the 25 yd

in his show this week with Ernest
Robinson saying they need Howard to play
spoiler so the Bulldogs can stay in the
makak
hunt
and they got to take care of business
here first of course being two and one
in M play as is Morgan State this is a
huge game really to solidify second
place in the conference
well I think you’re going to have a lot
of M teams rooting for Howard just to be
able to get one loss in conference play
um for North Carolina Central to give
everybody another chance you know so
everybody going to have on their Howard
blue probably later on about 3:30 4
today you don’t have Howard blue today
you got North Carolina blue on yeah I
thought I would give a shout out to the

two gapper a two gapper take up two gaps
they take they take up a lot of
space there JJ Davis Creeps in off
tackle but maybe gets back to the
original line of scrimmage to bring up
third down and
long and that was McGee on that stop boy
he is a player of the game candidate is
he not he has been very active
defensively I think this the most we’ve
called his name in a game all season as
Davis you see on the cricket play O hit
hard yeah great for tackle there getting
your hat across and getting guy on the
ground big third down for the Bulldog
defense bears trying to keep this drive

Travis Boland who covers South Carolina
State for the Times and Democrat does a
wonderful job one of the best media guys
in the state of South

as you take a look at a great shot
there South Carolina State trying to
hold on how big would a score here be
leading by one second down and 8 12
minutes remaining in this fourth
quarter trying to win one for Buddy and
staying in the Mak
hunt and off for a short G there that’s
Tyler Smith back into the game from
Gaffney we had some third quarter stats
I know we’re just a couple minutes into
the fourth but Josh Shaw 73 yards on 16
carries JJ JJ Davis pardon me with that
53 yard touchdown run gave him 114 for
the game
Fields being pressured throws over the
middle it’s
incomplete and you know It’s just tough
to get a grip on this ball it is tough
for these receivers with the timing
everything has just been all out of
whack with these field conditions and
the defenses aren’t making matters any
better but you look at the plays let’s

look at this Morgan State 51 plays 220
yards South Carolina state 34 plays 120
yards
wow and you’re looking at a 14 13 uh
game here which shows you that both
defenses pretty much have played pretty
good mhm it’s been a
slugfest oh that was a fake that was a
fake South Carolina state picks up the
first down and more inside Morgan State
territory
oh that’s how you draw it up and you
know we’ve seen the Bulldogs try that
before what a run here on the fake check

had a a lot of involvement on special
teams and he uh made it a point to talk
about that how you know just trying to
find out what works and the kicking game
and the punting game and you know you
got to attribute that to buddy because
he said this week he’s been doing a lot
of special team stuff so buddy taking
the chance on that fake punt that has
given new life to the Bulldogs on that
offensive drive and they’re still on it
now on the move inside the
30 this is Fields oh it’s a reverse cuts
it
inside and a nice
run I think that was Jordan Smith yes it
was yeah that was Jordan on the end of
round you can see him get in space

difference is normally only about one or
two plays that Mak the difference in the
football
game you know we gave the graphic

in his career going back to 2002 I went
season by season and did the research
there and this being his final home game
at Oliver C Dawson trying to go out with
his 82nd and final but he’s going to
need a Herculean effort in these

games and he’s done so much the field
though you know I think a lot of stuff
that coach has done and a lot of his
work at South Carolina state is going to
be after he’s done you know you know a
lot of times people say nobody really
realize what I do until I don’t do it
you know and once he’s gone I think
people really understand what he brought
to South Carolina State uh over the past
22 years so if anybody deserve to have a
day or to be able to go out uh win lose
a draw you know he’s been a a a a great
pillar of South Carolina State
University well
said hand off and that is going to be
close for a first down that’s Johnson on
the carry God Bol in there on the Stop
and I think they’re going to go ahead
and give it to him yes they do new set
of downs for Morgan State I will just
say this and I don’t know if I’ve shared
this with you off air but learning and
hearing from coaches and players this
season and sharing them on the broadcast
the biggest thing that I think about
with Buddy in terms of his legacy and
what he leaves and what he represents is
opportunity right he has given so many
opportunities whether it be as a player
as an assistant coach whatever the case
may be and we hear from so many coaches
on this broadcast that they were given
an opportunity by Buddy to do whatever
they wanted to do and I think that’s the
biggest thing that I’m going to come
away with in terms of Buddy’s Legacy is
giving guys a chance giving guys a
chance to do what they want to do and I
was privileged enough to be here when uh
coach hired Chris rum with no experience
um Chris rum’s now the dline coach at
Minnesota he hired Tony Elliott U with
no experience Tony was working at
Michelin wow as an engineer and Coach
Pew hired him as the receiver coach here
and Tony’s now the head coach of
Virginia um I was here when coach hired
Billy Napier uh Billy had no experience
he had just really got done playing at
Ferman and uh coach gave him an
opportunity and play and there more guys
over the years that he’s impacted that’s
went on and you know are big time
football coaches now that you don’t know
you can always say man I don’t know if
this would have ever happened had Coach
P not giving me this opportunity you so
and he a little country boy from WSB
South Carolina I wouldn’t be here
standing next to youday doing this
telecast today if he didn’t give me an
opportunity you know so uh he’s done so
much for so many
I just wish the the weather would have
been a little nicer so that more people
could come and actually give him his
flowers cuz now he
deserve so Bulldogs got a big tackle for
loss on defense called the
timeout and this is crucial right here
151 remaining in the
half and South Carolina State trying to
make this a third and long and get their
ball back on offense
so it’s been a stoppage out of the
timeout longer than
normal second down and 15 is what we’ll
call
it out of the shotgun two
receivers takes a snap and this is going
to be Tosh Smith coming near side cuts
it up field and a big roll run to the 45
yd line I think that’s going to be
enough for a Morgan State first

and coming in and um and leading his
team uh down the field and and and
getting some scores but uh it’s just

the special team play that actually came
to to be the the pretty much the game
deciding play you know that kickoff
return yeah and that could be the dagger
as I’m looking at the lone timeout left
by SC state do they take it here
yes looks like Bulldogs are going to
take their final timeout with 113 left
and that’s it Morgan State’s going to
take two kneel downs and that’ll finish
the game put it on
ice you know and I think this timeout
really is not
just taking it because you know you
can’t take them home with you but it’s
also to get his seniors together um
coach buddy Pew one last time out here

got one more game next week at norol

what makes this even tougher is that how
good did the Bulldog special teams unit
play all day all day I mean you think
about the touchdown think about the
field goal maxan Cobb with a couple of
big punts got one inside the five but it
was the Special Teams return touchdown
for Morgan State that
was the endall Beall and Dagger
and you know one play Never loses a game
just as much as one play never wins a
game but you know it’s always the last
play yeah you know that people remember
you know it’s a lot of time field goal
kickers get a a wrap of losing a game by
missing a field goal but that game
should have never came to that field
goal which you know that kickoff return
is not the reason why South Carolina
didn’t win certainly right I mean it’s
it’s it’s it’s really going to be what’s
remembered that all you got to do is get
a guy on the ground you got a good
chance
so buddy Pew taking this opportunity
with some of his seniors as coach Damon
Wilson called a
timeout right before this final kneel
down and this a big win for Coach Wilson
and Morgan State I mean this is they
were underdogs coming into this
one
and had trouble getting stuff going on
offense going to these conditions their
defense special team played well and you
know that big play the 53 yd run by JJ
Davis that was huge and when did it
happen right after the half time that’s
right that’s what we talk about all the
time you know those couple minutes
before and those couple minutes
after so one more kneel down
and that will do
it
as Morgan State is going to come out of
here with a win
as the crowd starts to disperse here at
Oliver C Dawson and Willie jeffy’s field
and we understand we probably had more
people than usual watching this one on
ESPN plus due to the weather people
probably saw the weather forecast said
they’ll hang on and stay at the house so

know if it’s going to be once he go to
the alada with the band or once he gets
back in but he’s going to be a little
motional for him it’s got to mean a lot
you know walking out the field the last
time for 22 years you know that I think
sometimes you just have to think how
long ago that was and I think I feel
like it’s been a long time ago cuz I was
here with him when he came it’s been a
long time
