it’s going to be interesting to see what
comes out of my mouth over the next uh
two and a half days when I’m actually
watching Golf and commenting on it so um
who knows man we’re all we’re all coming
out of this uh brand new and and uh what
comes in my little brain and my big
mouth will be new to all of
us that is vintage Kevin K right there
joining us on the pregame show earlier
today like you uh Kevin is going to go
from competitor player PGA Tour winner
he’s won four times to broadcaster he’s
going to continue to play as well he was
in the booth today with Dan and Kurt and
the team but he makes his formal debut
tomorrow 4 Eastern on NBC then he’ll
switch over to Golf Channel at 6 Eastern
then Sunday as well give you a little
taste of what we heard from kids
today and there’s kids going to
broadcast school you know they were
looking for people to try out and and uh
I needed a trip to Hawaii anyway so it
worked out well for my schedule and and
hopefully it works out well for for NBC
Sports too Patrick asked me to help him
at the President’s Cup on Bermuda grass
greens putting an hour and a half before
the first match I was like seriously
This Kiss so many players going through
the same point what do you think of the
process well it works I mean they can
prove it to you on the putting green I
just don’t have enough patience to do
all this I’m just rather look at it and
hit it how unbelievable was it when you
watch your pal Harmon win The clar Jug
over at ho he’s a bulldog man whenever
uh as soon as those cyss started messing
with him I’m like you’re messing with
the wrong guy these guys are asking me
how kid is doing just as much as I’m
reporting on them so I don’t think I’ve
cussed yet ever no you’ve been
absolutely impeccable I think I made it
I’m not sure yet I’ll get I’ll get the
full run down when I get back but that’s
fun uh I have even greater respect for
everybody in the TV business to to
produce all this and and to make it
happen so brandle you you have made it
happen you you think uh Kevin is cut
from the right cloth to be successful in
this role to see why why do you why do
you feel that way well first of all he’s
he’s bright uh he’s funny he’s got a a
real nice way about him he kind of
reminds me just a little I listened to
him in there of of Dave Moore you know
he’s just more colloquial more friendly
and people say look you know I mean can
he really do the job it remains to be
seen right there’s a lot of difficulties
in this job uh but you know people are
like well I had w a major can he sit in
that Booth I’m like you know look I I
get it I appreciate it and I understand
why uh historically speaking they’ve
defaulted to Major Championship win
for that role uh it carries a lot of
weight certainly when you set up in
there but when you think about great
analysts or great coaches or even great
broadcasters and other sports uh it
wasn’t a prerequisite that they were
absolutely great or even participated at
the highest level John Gruden uh coached
and was a tremendous uh broadcaster uh
he he was a a college football player
play
Theon didn’t play in the NFL look I
would say Butch harman’s great on TV uh
tremendous and obviously the most
respected coach in the world uh he was
on the PGA tour for a cup of coffee had
more rounds in the 80s in the 60s
American audiences don’t get a chance to
hear but we hear him on Sky I can just
tell when you hear him here he’s
brilliant brilant he’s absolutely
brilliant uh sir Allan uh Ferguson uh
you know he was he’s considered by a lot
of people the greatest coach in the
world he wasn’t extraordinary at at
soccer Phil Jackson You’re a basketball
guy I mean he was what a good
contributor on teams but was he a star
yeah no he was not a star but but he was
U you know a role player I would say on
those great New York Nick teams you know
with Willis Reed and Walt Frasier yeah I
I guess when it doesn’t come easy to you
you have to grind at it a little more so
you have to spend more time trying to
figure it out uh which may not make you
the best player but it helps you to
explain the nuances of the game and
maybe to even coach them or to broadcast
them uh and so I I think look he’ll
he’ll be ated by his wit for sure uh the
fact that he’s he’s so uh in with the
game and all the players uh that’s
invaluable certainly uh but also by the
fact that I think he’s had to grind he’s
experienced you know his first couple of
years out on the tour uh you know he was
he was gone 170th 200 whatever it was he
comes back he had to dig it out of the
dirt and he became a very good player so
I think he can speak to every single
level of success uh at the highest level
remains to be seen whether or not he’s
going to love it and want to do it uh
because it’s it you know after a while
look I mean when you first get in the
booth you’re real fresh you know all the
players okay five years down the road 10
years down the road when there’s five
more years of new players 10 more years
of new players you know it does require
a lot of work uh and and and a lot of
effort so if he wants to do it um
perhaps he’ll be one of the best you
never know but uh it it’s it’s not that
easy as it turns out uh to sit in that
chair there are times when with your
little Texas draw you you remind me of
Dave Mar you know I always love the
story uh marah is in the box and he says
to another Legend Bob rosberg John DA’s
playing he said Rossy what’s he what’s
he hitting and Rossy says hard five and
Mar says hard five looks like one of my
hard drives Dave Mar was was just
wonderful he was he was one of the best
of all time I put at the top but Dave
more was right there Byron Nelson my
rookie year I shot 65 I think in the
first round I’d played well at
Westchester brought me up in the booth
and we’re in they’re in commercial about
to come up on the air and uh he reaches
over and he goes Come On Son we’re going
we’re going to make a star out of you
was like wow was I mean it was just such
a nice gesture uh you know I mean it
took a lot of work and they still didn’t
make a store out but they were trying uh
and I never forgot that from Dave M yeah
there’s so many good ones through the
years I mean obviously you know Johnny
we we feel strongly about Johnny at at
this company but Ken ventur you at CBS
and Peter allice and you know Henry
Longhurst and you know ver lanquist and
Jim Nance currently doing it Dan has had
you know 100 famous
calls

  1. Kevin kisner is very funny, perhaps he should be a golf comedian and not a golfer full time. Part time comedian, part time golfer.😂

  2. Absolutely love seeing Kiz on the mic. You have no idea how accessible he makes golf feel. It’s as home and honest as it gets!
