Matthieu Pavon gets life-changing win at the Farmers’ Insurance Open | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1
it was simply a clutch closing
performance this put for birdie at the
72nd hole had to go in to ensure that
Frenchman Matthew pavon would win
without having to go extra Holes his
first title on the PGA tour and he
becomes the champion of the Farmers
Insurance open on their now traditional
Saturday finish very respectable from
Nikolai hoard who finished one back
applauding him as we Crown the first
Frenchman since
1921 on the PGA tour he cited obviously
support from Thomas L through his career
Seline boutier what she has done for
golf in the country of France the
capital city Paris of course will host
the Olympics this summer no doubt he’ll
be a big part of the golf portion of
that as we say good evening and welcome
you into our postgame coverage Cara
Banks alongside brandle shamble and he
was in the final group today brandle but
much to what you were telling us in our
pregame coverage he did not hold the 54o
lead which historically has not been
favorable at this event that was Steven
joer he slipped back there were some
turning points today what were the key
on there certainly were it was a nail B
really and it was really fun to watch
three guys who’d never won in hogard
joerger and pavon go sort of
head-to-head but by the time they got to
the 14th hole Matthew pavon had a one-
shot lead Over Steven yanger and he
drove it down the right side pinned in
the left and this was I thought one of
the more surprising shots of the day
he’d been in such control look at that
he’s posing he thinks he’s absolutely
flushed at the middle of the green but
from this camera angle it looked like
it’s into the penalty area it looked
like it was impossible to par but the
great Napoleon said impossible is not a
French word cross-handed chip off of the
UPS slope what a save this is to retain
his one shot lead Over Steven joerger
now by the time he gets to the 17th pole
he’s got a two- shot lead over four
different players it looked like it was
his tournament to win or lose how many
times have we seen this over this week
and unbelievable number of short putts
missed but that one had to really hurt
and then at the 18th hole
this was beyond belief to me out of the
thick hay 155 yd over the water he could
have lost it with that swing that one
swing coming out of the rough that thick
I thought for sure he’d play out to the
right try to get it up and down hope for
a playoff talk about French Flair I mean
what a moment I mean just acting like he
could care less that’s something maybe
you’d see somebody do on Tuesday when
nothing was on the line everything was
on the line and by this point Nikolai
hogy had made birdie so he needed that
to win Matthew pavon right it’s been a
long drought I’m not sure how you say
drought in French but I do know how to
say
champagne I know how to say imposs which
is impossible but he proved that there
was no impossible for him today you know
Amanda Rena did a wonderful job of
informing us all what that tattoo meant
on his right hand you know the sweat you
enjo from work basically results in the
in the tears of joy tomorrow no doubt he
will shed some tears of joy as he
collects a Winner’s check of 1.62
million doar brandle talk about
lifechanging this is just over three
months since he won for the first time
really anywhere except the Alps tour I
think what’s so remarkable about this
man’s journey is he only just won on the
DP World Tour for the first time in his
career in October that got him into the
season ending TOUR Championship birdie
do you showed us so eloquently yesterday
the last four straight holes to get into
this inaugural DP World Tour top 10
securest PGA I mean his life has
changed drastically in the last four
months not quite the Underdog Story of
last week with Nick nun winning in the
desert but when you consider with four
holes to play at the DP World Tour
Championship he was outside that top 10
birdie birdie birdie birdie to move up
into that top 10 and then the way he
played uh over the course of today it
seemed to me like the tougher the moment
got the better he played we’ll go back
to and this is one of the more difficult
t- shots on the entire Golf Course we’ve
seen it all week long players get up
there driveing the left Ru at the fourth
driving the right bunker at the fourth
but he gets up and you talk about the
the flare here almost as if uh he
doesn’t have a carrot in the world I
mean just working that cut off of the
the the penalty area down the left I
andan this is an inordinately difficult
Fairway to hit there is such a high
penalty for missing this Fairway
obviously to the left and it’s
compounded obviously if you miss it to
the right in that right bunker as we saw
with Nicolai hogard and then from the
middle of the Fairway to that front
right hole location starting the day
with a bogey nonetheless at the first
hole a three put bogie talk about
bounceback with a birdie there at the
fourth and then of course he would add
birdies at the sixth at the eighth and
then at the ninth another very difficult
t-shot here at the 12th you figure with
fray nerves never won PGA Tour late
Sunday a prime opportunity and very
understandable if he’d missed this
Fairway but again right down the middle
of the Fairway this is one of if not the
hardest par fours on the PGA tour look
at just effortless like not a care in
the world nothing on the line ham down
the middle of the Fairway right where
you want to hit it that was right on the
button so made the fourth look easy made
birdie nice tidy par at the 12 and again
this pitch shot I mean this is one of
the better pit shots under the pressure
you know keeping your wits about you
having to walk that entire way not
knowing whether or not it was in the
penalty
area keeping your wits about you getting
it up and down maintaining the the lead
and then at the 16th hole after missing
it in the right bunker again with a
two-shot lead it looked like for sure he
was going to give one up and he doesn’t
so the bounce back bird there we saw
what happened at the 17th but let’s dive
back in to the 18 drove it in the left
bunker on the layup on the UPS slope
failed to find the Fairway and again he
and his cdy Mark Sherwood going back and
forth back and
forth don’t know how they came to the
belief but I mean an incredible shot out
of the thick rough I thought for sure
again that he would play safe over to
the right try to get it up and down and
win in a playoff but that’ll go down at
least in my in my book is one of the
most heroic shots that I’ve ever seen
hit here at the farmers and then of
course to finish it all off with the
putt at the last it’s a long time since
the Frenchman won on the PGA tour of
course Sean velt famously came close at
the Open Championship Thomas L lost at
the uh playoff in the Open Championship
in 2002 but perhaps perhaps they are
motivated by Seline boutier what she did
four wins in 2023 including uh the major
championship the Evon followed
immediately by the Scottish open perhaps
that spurred Matthew pavon on to your
point I love the fact that he
highlighted her in his winning interview
with Amanda Rena he said I’m just trying
to copy what Seline did last year she’s
done so much for our country and way to
give props to the women’s game and
indeed what Seline did do in that
wonderful summer stretch but gutsy
there’s no doubt about it what you’ve
just showed us that up and down on 18
was ultimately needed needed to win and
also just a word you mentioned him Mark
showard I know you were incredibly
impressed by his caddy all day long he’s
a seasoned European caddy but no doubt
he was a big help today he really was
you know there were several times when
he was in a sticky situation you’re you
know I’ve look I’ve been in that
situation you can’t feel your arms you
can’t feel your hands you got adrenaline
coursing through your body you’re going
to hit it 10 12 15 yards longer than you
want to but every single time it was a
great back and forth between Matthew and
Mark Matthew and Mark
uh to to get ecclesiastical on you there
Matthew and Mark but uh but it was just
brilliant uh player Cat Sam yeah just
nice to have a steady arm alongside you
sometimes and he really did have that in
mark look he’s never even played in the
Masters or the PGA Championship the win
today has guaranteed that he’ll be
teeing it up in both those first two
major championships of this calendar
year plus of course all the Signature
Events the players I mean his life has
truly just
changed

who are these guys?
Not a dig on winners but no real stars left in the pga, guys in the back of the pack win every other week.
Who are these people
The tournament at Farmers was a joke this year with all the A-class golfers leaving the PGA and going to LIV. Just like the Sentry in Hawaii, all these unknown rookies are winning because there are no good players left in the PGA except a few who only want to show up for the big events. The PGA is on a downward spiral and their greed and power-hungry administration was the cause of it. Xander and Finaue, Morikawa, Cantly, and Hideki, basically were all the tournaments had to offer, and probably the last Farmers PGA event I'll go to see.
Paving is my new fav golfer be he doesn’t fully daddle around before every shot. The most frustrating part of golf is slow ASS players
TRUMP 2024
Watch the video on his 3rd shot into 18, obvious what he was doing.
