Now in Tennessee it’s illegal to lasso a
fish but it’s perfectly okay to shoot
birdies that’s why we’re here in
Nashville Tournament Central from the
the Music City open presented by Lone
Star dis is on the disc golf
network from the morning round Holland
Hanley out to a three throw lead over
Silva sarn and Kristen Tatar and Haley
King will round out the lead card with
several others very much in the mix
we’ll summarize the morning for you and
look to the afternoon right here on
Tournament Central great zelner
alongside Nate Perkins and Nate you’ve
had a chance to walk the property to
deal with a little bit of weather this
morning what is your overall synopsis of
the morning and how the fpo field
attacked this challenge uh well first
off Grant I have to say that that video
got me pretty hyped uh I love that the
tour has been rolling through Nashville
for many years now I’ve I’ve always felt
like it’s a you know a just a great
American city you know with the the
music and and and the the culture here I
feel like it’s a pretty unique place and
then the disc off here has always been
you know one of a kind and the the clubs
here it’s it’s always had a thriving
community so love the city of Nashville
and for last few years now they’ve been
building this temporary course M Ridge
just southeast of of downtown it’s right
off the interstate it’s pretty
unassuming you know lay of the land it’s
uh at an old cow pasture and we’re
running back looking at some of the
holes today and this morning Grant it
was you know reminiscent of Jones bro in
the way that you’d have pockets of the
course that were really calm and then
you’d have really exposed parts of the
course that were were gusting pretty
hard so the scores kind of reflected
that because you know the players at the
top were still able to accumulate the
birdies but only you know a handful of
players under par Grant only seven
players shooting under par you know two
of those just one one under so that
shows you in a field of 42 players just
how hard mil Ridge is playing for the
average player and Holland you know is
no stranger to the big shots that mil
Ridge is asking you to throw and she was
able to find the Flow State on that
front nine today
Grant we heard about her round in her
own words just after she stepped off
18 all right I’m joined in our warm-up
area Booth by Holland Handley after the
first round of the Music City H Holland
you got off to a hot start tell us about
it yeah really hot start especially uh
didn’t think that anyone was really
going to birdie three um cuz you know in
practice the best I was getting was
about a 40-footer but uh the putter was
feeling really good I think a lot of
those early ones were were some circle
two putts so yeah was feeling really
good nice
yeah I mean you’re as as we were walking
over uh seemed like your group was
ecstatic toh witness that round they’re
calling it epic and they’re just beaming
um do you feel like that you had a good
group could you highlight them for a
second oh absolutely yeah I had uh Leah
and Emily weatherman and uh Jess kis and
I mean we started off with highlights
just all around on the card just getting
that throw in on one and then uh crazy
long Circle two Putt and then Emily also
with a circle two put on a hole two and
uh you know by the time the camera
showed up I was like was about time and
not even just for me like I was shooting
well but I felt like the card all around
was was doing some was putting up some
good highlights and like just had really
good energy um throughout that’s great
to hear how do you feel about this
course mil Ridge um seems like it
requires a lot of big shots from the
competitors yeah I think this is the
best design on this course that we’ve
seen so far I still think there are
areas that could be improved um a few
shots where when it was adjusted for Foo
you know the the t- shot was made
manageable but then the second shots uh
kind of not reachable even for some of
the better throwers um there’s a few
spots where like you know I was
practicing with Ella and we’re both like
all right Circle two is probably the
best we’re going to get and I know if
that’s how we’re feeling then it’s going
to be really tough for the rest of the
field um which is great for my score um
but yeah I think there’s still some room
for improvement gotcha I see um let’s
see uh so yeah that uh unfortunate
situation on whole 14 it was with the
Lost disc can you explain to us what
happened there we only saw so much yeah
so I def I was throwing a challenger OS
silver stable putter um I didn’t quite
get enough turn on it so I knew it was
going to be left but I hit kind of the
last Tree on the left got a little kick
to the left and somehow it got wedged
several feet under a rock um in fact I I
know Chandler Kramer was caddying on the
card for for Emily and he looked under
that rock and like had reached under and
couldn’t find it but um someone ended up
putting like their whole arm under it um
before they actually reached it so it
was actually kind of an insane freak
thing yeah wow well Holland Hanley thank
you for joining us good luck the rest of
the way great thank
you cool clear Nate it’s happened to me
before a disc getting lost right in
front of my eyes I never thought I’d see
it on the disc golf pro tour but that’s
exactly what happened to Holland
Hanley Grant I’ve said for many years
now that I feel like the last disc
penalty is one of the harshest in the
game because a You’ve Lost Your
potentially one of your go-to disc but
you have to take a stroke and then
rethrow I I feel like personally that
that should be one of the rules that we
should kind of you know consider
changing maybe you you know you rethrow
throw in two but I’ve always felt like
it’s a bit of an over punishment and
it’s really hard to watch this video
Grant because the disc is right
underneath that rock that was right
behind Holland you know this there’s a
unique feature out at mil Ridge while it
is kind of an old pasture a lot of grass
Rolling Hills Big Trees there’s these
Lim Stone outcrops and on top of those
are some rare prickly pear cactus this
is the furthest North that you’re ever
going to see the prickly peir and
they’ll grow right on top of those the
Limestone which haul and slid right
underneath so really kind of a tragic
situation for the way that she was
playing uh to to card the double bogey
on that short par three unfortunate but
she she bounced back pretty quick and
she’s going to be happy with a 1030
rated round today many perils out there
well tomorrow the final four to face the
music will be of course Holland Hanley
along with Silva Saron Kristen tar and
Haley King rounding out the lead card
for Saturday morning’s round right after
this we’re back here on the disc golf
network setting up the afternoon’s round

next
week we come into the Music City open
Nate with Anthony Barella no doubt about
it the player of the year thus far still
early but he’s got a Target on his back
and it seems like he’s clearly in a
league of his own any thoughts as to how
this course will set up for him can he
keep the Run going you know Grant there
there’s a stat that we don’t talk about
uh that that I think we need need to and
it’s the airspace to to birdie ratio
okay there’s there’s some courses uh
Northwoods black not a lot of airspace
all right and the the only way that
you’re going to challenge a player with
Anthony barilla’s skill set is to have
them try and throw a disc down a hallway
Grant because when they when there’s
airspace like there is at Jonesboro like
there was at Texas States and like there
is here at the M Ridge course nothing
can really get in this man’s way and
what I what I want to talk to you about
is you know Anthony back at chess.com
obviously he’s he’s battling with Ricky
Yaki throughout the entirety of that
final round took down the victory then
at Texas States he’s going into the
final round with the healthy lead then
last week at Jonesburg bro he loses the
lead and he has to come back from behind
you know even though he’s on that lead
card after 12 holes he was six back of
Benjamin Callaway when he looked at that
scorecard looked at his cadd he said hey
it’s time I need to birdie 13 and I need
to get the eagle and then I can win this
thing the fact that Anthony Barella was
behind and believed in himself to do it
and then actually witnessed himself do
it I think that dangerous for the rest
of the field Grant because now he’s kind
of
completing his his arsenal of Victories
it’s like Paul MCB Beth back in
2015 when you just win everything that
you set your mind to that just starts
becoming your reality that’s Anthony
Bell’s reality right now and if he’s
focused this week on the task at hand
and he’s not thinking ahead to Northwood
Park then I think
is the clear favorite this
weekend like an artisan you think they
have all the tools that they need and
then they continue to discover more and
more tools and put them in their toolbox
that summarizes what’s going on in
Anthony Bella’s career right now another
player who we’ve known for the better
part of it feels like two decades has
all the tools in his toolbox Simon lazat
but it seems like so much more than a
year ago when he was right here at the
this event standing in the winner circle
Simon coming into the event trying to
jumpstart his season dealing with injury
and dealing with let’s just call it
life yeah I mean he’s got his second kid
on the way Grant and he’ll be the first
person to tell you that life on the road
is not ideal for him he he loves
spending time at home you know with his
family with his now 2-year-old who he
mentioned that is just now becoming old
enough to understand when you know Dad
is leaving the nest and it was kind of
sad to hear him talk about it talk about
how he doesn’t know how much longer he
can keep doing this and for the majority
of discov fans at home those are sad
words because he has been one of the
most entertaining players in our sport I
believe it was
2014 that the term Simon line was was
coined Grant and it took him some time
to figure out how to win on the tour but
when he started figuring out you know
how to kind of control his talent he
started racking up the victories and it
was no surprise that you know he won you
know from the Chase card last year took
home the
guitar if the back isn’t bothering him
too much this week Grant he was in full
control last week when he took Fifth and
I think this course sets up extremely
well for for his abilities that he’s
bringing to the table right now and
while I do think Anthony is the clear
favorite I think if Simon gets things
rolling early this week he could have a
chance to get his second Gibson electric
guitar well Simon is certainly
responsible for some of the terms in the
disolf dictionary so we had to catch up
with and hear about his week in his own
words you were open last week about how
you were feeling physically but you took
fifth place that’s your best finish of
the year how do you feel now and then
maybe go back and and talk about having
to play at the top level feeling like
that yeah it’s been a bit of a common
thing in my career that kind of the
worse I feel the better I play because
it just slows me down so much and you
stop worrying about results and shots in
front of you just kind of do it and I’ve
been doing it for so long that that’s
kind of what I need and it’s so hard to
do it when you’re feeling great to not
start overthinking stuff and just kind
of putting your expectations so high
that you start like crumbling under your
own pressure so when I’m not feeling
good I just kind of turn all that off no
expectations I just want to get through
the round and feel better and then
suddenly I start playing well it’s just
it’s very confusing but it just it’s
I’ve noticed that throughout my entire
career and yeah on top of my back pain
last week I got a cold starting that
started Saturday when I woke woke up
last week Saturday I was pretty certain
that I was have to going to call the
tournament and be like guys I just it’s
just not worth it I can’t
play and uh shockingly it hasn’t really
gone away yesterday I felt so bad I
couldn’t get out of bed all day which
hasn’t that hasn’t happened to me in so
long um back pain is getting better and
better every day but it’s still still
noticeable which is just I don’t know I
really don’t know what to what to say
about that I’m going to go out now try
to throw I haven’t thrown since Sunday
last week see how it feels loosen up a
bit um try to learn the course if I can
and maybe this is just my body getting
out all the bad stuff before my baby
shows up next week so hopefully that’s
the
case Simon lasant showing a lot of
perspective in that conversation Eagle
McMahon a player who’s had to get a lot
of perspective over the course of the
last year to 18 months dealing with so
many different injuries and so many
setbacks but when he’s on he’s on we
didn’t know for sure whether or not he
would be on this week and even he wasn’t
sure when we first spoke to him in his
interview uh Nate when it comes to Eagle
we now know he’s
dropping and he’ll be trying to get
ready for next week just how can you
knowing what a pro player goes through
how can you try to give us a little bit
of a perspective on eagles’s
Outlook you know Grant I’ve always uh
respected the way that eagle looks at
the disc golf tour and and his career I
felt like he’s he’s kind of was the
first player to really pick and choose
what he wanted his tour to look like and
he realized that hey his body is taking
a toll from you know throwing 80 m per
hour backhand shots and 70 mile per hour
for hand shots and you know he said in
his interview that you know it you can
relate it to a a major league pitcher
and they they have pitch counts and they
have team of people kind of watching you
know the health of their arm what’s sad
about this situation Grant is that this
Eagle didn’t pull because of the
shoulder that he just had surgery on he
healed from that surgery everything’s
been going well he’s been throwing
feeling great gave himself the green
lights come out here a week early and
then he just had a weird accident
reaching down for something in his car
and pulled something in his back so I
have to imagine that Eagle’s kind of
taken a little bit extra caution just
because there’s a major around the
corner so for the fans out there that
saw that the crush boys uh who are now
back with the same sponsor in MVP we’re
playing together for the first time in
years on the featured card it’s sad that
we’re losing Eagle but respect to him
for putting his body first and putting
the major next week first grant we’ve
got Eagle mcmah in his own words talking
about his
mindset it definitely stinks uh being
away from disc gool so long so basically
I’ve been doing a lot of trying to
trying to figure out my body got the
surgery and that went very well um and
basically the the whole time at European
open ever since late 2021 it’s kind of
been a Chase to keep uh the symptoms at
Bay with the shoulder and I finally feel
like I’m in a place where that’s
stabilized now so with a new five-year
contract with MVP I’m hoping to give it
my all I mean I’ve been known to take
some time off take certain events off um
just for mental health and keep the body
strong but hopefully it’s uh far less
than uh what’s been in the past I am not
even 6 months post surgery so I there’s
still some healing to take place
everything should be set pretty good but
uh this year I’m going to ramp up the
forehand as the year goes on I would say
this course I would maybe throw some
forehand approaches um but I’m I’m being
careful because I want to focus on
longevity I want to feel good for the
next 5 years um so easing in rather than
going in sprinting throwing 500 forand
that’s uh that’s a little too fast for
me but I think uh with a a diligent
routine I feel like I’m going to be able
to balance myself out pretty good but
that being said I don’t necessarily even
want to throw those massive forand again
uh or maybe seldom use case just because
we’re playing such long courses and
there’s there there’s a streak this year
where there’s going to be like six
events in a row and we’re basically uh
we’re like pitchers in the MLB uh maybe
two smaller degree but we’re out there
throwing hard every single weekend so
you have to work on Pitch counts you got
to notice how much uh Power output
you’re putting if you want to focus on
longevity and I mean it’s kind of crazy
but this golf’s turning into like a
teenager sport almost like 19 181 19
that’s like almost the prime time so you
know you got to you got to do what you
can to to stay stury out
there Nate so much revealed in that few
moments with eagle such a big picture
mentality everything from taking into
consideration the obligations that he
rightly has on behalf of his sponsors
and wanting to balance those with having
good health and good
performances right down to the the
intricacies of knowing what he wants to
throw and even how often he wants to
throw certain types of shots in order to
preserve his health it’s very
interesting to hear somebody so young
speaking in such Grand
terms and you know what uh what I took
away from that interview Grant was that
eagle says that his forehand is coming
back and that’s good news for all of us
fans at home because there was there was
a point where he could just break apart
any course that they threw at him
because when you throw 500 feet in both
directions I there’s there’s not really
much the designer can do so really
looking forward to seeing his since
forehand come back and I can’t disagree
with him about disc off you know disc
offers really reaching their Prime you
know in in their late teenage years and
you know in their early 20s I feel like
there’s a physical prime for the
elasticity that’s necessary to really
compete week in and week out on the tour
I also feel like there’s there’s a
period in the late 20s early 30s where
the mental side of things kind of
reaches Peak you know we’ve seen you
know many players James Conrad like Nate
ston Greg barsby like players like that
they played throughout their entirety of
their 20s without winning at the top
level without winning you know a major
and it wasn’t until their mindset was in
a better place that they were able to do
it so I agree with eagle that this game
seems like a young man’s sport but I
also feel like it is still golf
and that there are still going to always
be players in their later years that are
able to come back and compete out here
on the
tour we’ve gone all this time and we’ve
yet to talk about Tennessee’s Hometown
hero in Chris Dickerson and in his uh
dealing with his own issues and he’s
been very candid about those during the
course of this week dealing with uh a
hip issue that has been a lingering
concern of his and he’s finally gotten
some actual information on it he’s
discovered that while he may have
aggravated a time or two it may be a
condition that uh he was born with
frankly he’s not they’re not 100% sure
but they do know that there is a certain
short-term prognosis in terms of his
being able to play through it and that
there is a certain long-term prognosis
in terms of what he can expect as he
reaches his his 40s and his 50s later on
in life have you gotten a chance to
either talk to Chris or at least catch
up with some of the news on Chris
Dickerson well Grant that’s just got to
be terrifying to hear you know you’re I
believe Chris is late 20s early 30s and
he’s being told that he might have to
have a hip replacement sometime in the
future and that’s just that’s scary when
your livelihood is a sport where you
know the the hip plays a large role in
your ability to to generate power in
this game and you know that says a lot
about what Chris has been accomplishing
out there we haven’t seen a lot of him
you know on the the lead or the Chase
card but he’s finished top 10 at the
last three events and it’s hard to
string top tense in a row out here so
while we haven’t seen a ton of him on
camera I’m big on him this week he’s
he’s always been one to kind of just you
know all of the sudden pop off and kind
of play that robotic style of golf that
you know he he’s aptly named for the
Robot Chicken you know and he’s got the
the home crowd feeling this this week
and yeah hats off to Chris for kind of
you know just letting the discov
community in on on the difficult
diagnosis that he got with that bone
spur in the hip Grant did we get a
chance to talk to him we did indeed we
wanted to find out if the Robot Chicken
has a chance at being Nashville hot this
week so we caught up with Chris at the
press conference
well last week at Jonesboro started out
the first round felt fine second round a
little sore third round was decently
sore uh but I think that was caused by
something you know it wasn’t exactly
disc golf maybe maybe not disc golf
related but um if if I feel pain or
whatever because of it I’m going to try
and play through it not the best golf in
my career but I feel like I’m playing
pretty solid um I could definitely make
or I I could make some improve
improvements without being you know
nitpicking saying like oh I could go
perfect every round yeah so I I could
make some improvements but it’s just the
you know more of getting out there and
doing it than saying well I could
have still waiting to see vintage Paul
as well we’ve had Paul uh talking very
candidly during the course of the Year
about his comeback from his own shoulder
injury I’m paraphrasing now Nate but I
know that he said something into the
effect of don’t judge what you see until
after Texas States well we left Texas a
couple of weeks ago Paul on the year
just
$720 cash and all of that at one event
do you see a light at the end of the
tunnel for Paul McBeth
n it’s a it’s interesting thing Grant
you know a player has success for for so
many years all of a sudden they not
finding you know the Winter Circle again
and and of course the internet blowing
up saying hey he’s washed but I
absolutely think that there’s light at
the end end of the tunnel for Paul and I
think that that fans are you know not
giving him enough credit if they don’t
think he can come back and win at
Champions Cup or they don’t think that
he can find his swing again and win
another world title I mean what does he
have to do to to prove to us that he is
one of the greatest of all time I don’t
think has to do anything else in his
career
so Grant there’s definitely light at the
end of the
tunnel yeah I certainly don’t think he
has anything to show that he hasn’t
already shown his career other than how
relevant he might be on any given week
you know they say what’s the country
music song I’m not as good as I once was
but I’m as good once as I ever was I
think that’s going too far the other way
I think Paul’s got a lot left in him
we’re just waiting to see if it’ll show
up this week a quick look at the lead
board and we’ll send you to the
broadcast thanks for watching Tournament

we saw a fin card in fo we got a fin
card in
fo how about that as we’re going to
welcome you inside the broadcast Booth
alongside Brian aard I am Charlie Eisen
Hood hi everybody good afternoon thanks
for joining us Brian we saw Lefty card
last week we got the Finn card this week
Paul card last week as well what’s going
on out here I think the Paul card is is
kind of the outlier here CU I I think
there is a benefit to obviously playing
in a different country with three other
people who speak your home language you
can be yourself you can kind of SN into
things you can actually share Intel in a
language you feel most comfortable with
it’s kind of the same thing with the
lefties at Jonesboro you actually get to
take wind reads from people you get to
see lines thrown that are actually lines
you might be able to throw uh that’s
awesome I don’t know how these cards are
getting put together if they’re random
that is absolutely phenomenal Charlie
well you know they they may feel
comfortable but nobody feels more
comfortable on the course right now than
Anthony Bella who has now won three of
the first five events of the season
coming off last
weekend and we start with chess.com the
opener he beats out Ricky Yaki then he
goes to Texas States in Houston shoots
an 1100 rated round takes down Ganon who
is playing amazing and then at Jonesboro
able to get it done with a phenomenal
finish in the final round Brian he’s
been
magnificent it’s just been such a treat
and and really we look back Paul MC Beth
is the last guy to do what Anthony Bella
has done and we’re already starting to
make some uh comparisons to Paul McBeth
maybe not full Legacy but the way he’s
evolving as a player and the way his
game is evolving is very on par with
what we’ve seen from Paul yeah the last
time we saw somebody win three of the
first five events of the Season it
wasn’t 2019 it was MC Beth and that’s
the list alltime of players that have
won at least three of the first five
events elit events of the season and
that’s pretty nice company for Anthony
barell to keep I I am so blown away by
the way he’s carrying himself and last
year it felt like the whole narrative
was oh he can’t close oh he doesn’t care
oh if only he did this then he’d be a
champion and then all of the sudden the
light bulb just went off at chess.com
and he said oh yeah I am the most
talented player in the game I do have
the most distance I’m going to throw a
little touch in there as well he’s
currently the best player in the world
right now and he’s the one to beat this
weekend one of the guys we thought maybe
able to come out here and compete with
him was Eagle McMahon who was supposed
to make his 2024 season debut and it’s
been a little bit of a journey an injury
Journey for Eagle we bounce back to 2019
and he misses that Putt and he breaks
his hand and this was kind of the start
of a long stretch of time where Eagle
was struggling with injuries uh of
various kinds we remember this when he
tries to kind of go the reverse flick
and hurts his shoulder and the shoulder
injury has been plaguing him for over
two
years yeah it’s just heartbreaking and
yes we’re showing these videos of him
injuring himself in these tough ways but
that’s not been the whole story and I
think growing up in general as a disc
golfer you work through some tough
emotions when you’re young going through
this game you’re facing failure over and
over again and you have to learn the
hard way sometimes you know it’s a
blessing to be a young kid coming up in
dis golf with a calm demeanor I know
many players just like Eagle McMahon
doing the same thing and right now it
sounds like his mindset is perfect we’re
just waiting for him to come
back all right we’re going to hear from
Eagle McMahon or anything the because
it’s really important to me that I get
back and I perform at a high level
especially with the the new sponsorship
um but life has just a way of uh of
giving it to you like there’s a certain
hubis and irony to it all like the day
before I got on the plane I was reaching
in my car to grab something and I just
feel o what what is that and uh it was
getting better over the weekend when I
tried playing a practice round and uh
kind of tweaked it again um I think it
is just an acute injury but uh just in
opportune time right now cuz I feel like
I could go throw right now now but it’s
also like I got to balance it out
because we have to acknowledge that
Champions cups next week and that was my
original return projection um because I
don’t want to miss a
major well we’ve seen Eagle actually
looking pretty darn good with the
shoulder I mean he’s been throwing hard
he’s been throwing forehand we’ve seen
it on some YouTube videos and uh
ultimately decided to scratch this
weekend and not play due to the back
injury uh but it doesn’t sound like it’s
anything major it just feels unfortunate
especially given the fact that you know
he played so amazing in the second half
of last season uh of course won the
European open heads up against Paul MC
Beth in
2022 and uh it’s really we we’ll just
have to wait hopefully he’s able to go
next weekend the Champions Cup time for
the second feature card to tee off on
hole number
one here at the2 Music City open
presented
by first to the team Make some noise for
Logan
[Music]
[Applause]
bow Logan Bowers Tennessee local
longtime Pro Player here huge sidearm
can’t wait to see Logan play again it’s
been a while
second to the team give it up for
Anthony
[Music]
[Applause]
Bell parella finished second here last
year lost to Simon wasat Late in the
final
round an epic comeback from Simon
he’s been throwing that line just so
smooth all year a little bit long but I
love that baby Flex he’s been able to do
that’s a nice shot next to the team
please welcome Calvin
[Applause]
Hur Calvin still dealing with the arm
injury not throwing Four Hands
[Applause]
round knock down but a put from the edge
of the circle give it up for Carter ER
[Applause]
oh got the
flip Bullseye what a
[Applause]
start let’s go to the
18th Ganon
Burr has a putt to take the
lead coming off of backto back birdies
on 16 and 17 to get to eight under
[Applause]
par very
close
but with a par tap in here will finish
his round at seven under with a triple
bogey on the
eighth was with him a little bit during
his practice round he uh definitely is
not happy uh that AB has more wins than
him this year I think his sights are set
on one player this season and especially
this
weekend well he really fought back from
that mistake he opened the round with
four straight birdes and then gave a
bunch of the those back on the eighth
before then continuing on to put
together a nice round he’s tied for
second one stroke back of our leader
Chris Clemens
a lot of good scores out in the course
you know we’ll see how
that eight under holds
up this course kind of got a Jonesboro
treatment TC shifted a lot of hole
numbers changed there’s a few new holes
sprinkled in here some new teads players
are seeing this layout for the very
first time in competition today now
Calvin’s got to look for birdie just
inside the circle
a little too much on the right
side doesn’t
stay Calvin pedigree putting for Birdie
on the 10th and he gets it to go another
really talented thrower he’s still in
college actually
he’s going to have to go to a coffee
shop and do some homework after
this Bella will have to straddle
out couple steps inside the
circle his Improvement in putting has
been noticeable in 2024
and when he does miss that tends to be
the Miss just a slightly underc
committed stroke but overall 86% C1 33%
C2 it’s been a great year so far for ab
nothing to uh be ashamed of now Bowers
for
par something to note as we watch the
Tennessee native he actually is dealing
dealing with a torn laum um which is
kind of a common injury these days for
dis golfers
unfortunately for bogey
[Applause]
erens for the tap in
birdie nice start for
him couple of par tapin for Bella and
heberg and the second feature card is
off and
rolling Yaki for Birdie on the 10th and
he’s in so he’s five down through
10 there here’s a look at the
leaderboard a lot of hot scores so far
this afternoon we action on the other

the newest this to my collection is the
drive passion Fierce these are things
that I feel when I play disc golf and
drive for me is something that I feel so
strongly I was looking for something in
between like a Serge SS and a Zeus I
wanted something that could get me like
the full s flight without having to try
as hard as I would with the Zeus
finding myself feeling a lot more
confident with this disc in my hand in
the woods than I’ve ever been before
this just felt like such a natural step
to create my dream driver
and welcome back coverage of the Music
City open on the disc golf Network just
saw Calvin bag’s Drive the Music
City so I want to let you know that this
golf is returning to the CBS Sports

was maybe we’ll get some Magnus Carlson
shots out there I’m sure we will the
editors know what they’re
doing Carter erens second shot on hole
two oh
yeah I really like Carter erands I I I I
want to key in on him a little bit more
today as we see him finish this round
out now Rick up
ahead tricky t-shot there on 11 and
that’s another another hole we’ll have
to talk a little bit more about as our
feature cards get up there one of the
more unique par 3s that we’re going to
see all year uh on on the tour uh
Charlie you watched the women this
morning what do you feel about this
milridge
property oh it’s interesting I mean for
the FBO in particular I think course is
playing very tough today not a lot of
birdies to be had except for our leader
Holland Handley who was fantastic 10
birdies today
but uh it’s uh they they they’ve made it
hard that’s for sure physical
course
Bella laying up his
second 11,000 59 ft par 67 Behemoth on
130 Acres of pasture Rolling Hills as
you’ll see all over the place here in
Tennessee it is quite the physical
challenge and and you’ll see this
throughout the
day Calvin kind of gave that a
run off the base he’ll have a tap in for
par back to the 11th pedigree putting
for
birdie they’ll have short comeb backer
for
par Logan Bowers got a birdie
look
basket Bella for par
[Music]
[Applause]
[Applause]
so tap-ins all around
here’s
Ricky going out and
around checks up inside the
circle well third member of our
broadcast crew Zack Melton chatting with
Ben Callaway checking out some shades
we’ll hear from Zach and we’ll see Ben
Callaway playing after the break oh I
can’t wait Charlie
[Music]
[Music]
the number one reason I switch from bag
to card is pretty simple takes weight
off of my back easier to play a
course I realized that the cart became
something I really needed when little
things would happen I’d pick up my bag
and my elbow would hurt using a cart
decreases the bending over the weight on
my lower back decide to go with sua and
seeing that my sciatic nerve is gone and
I don’t need to worry only one thing I
have to worry about to get birdie
because my Suka done it all for me
Jonathan Jonathan
Jonathan wow amazing
[Applause]
hi yeah yeah check this pad
out I think you should use your wrist a
little bit
more yeah is he okay yeah he’s fine

Anthony Bella having an amazing start to
the 2024 season Brian if you had to
pinpoint one thing that has improved the
most in his game game what would you say
I mean we could talk about it from a
physical standpoint first I think his
touch I think he’s sinking into the
shots on the Finesse side that he likes
this disc right here has just been a
joystick for him and he’s not opting to
throw the stable approach disc on the
forehand anymore he’s going with his own
style throwing the floaty backand his
putting under pressure has gotten better
and then just maturing as an athlete
it’s just a recipe for success of course
he’s playing the way he’s playing well
time to check in with Zack Melton Zack
first first thing I got to ask you as we
are very glad to welcome you to the dgn
crew uh whose sunglasses are better
yours or
Ben so you know obviously Ben’s got some
Oakleys you know he dropped a little
little green on them you know and I I
tried to compare I really can’t tell a
difference so I think my Walmart special
like $1299 is bang for the buck I think
I think I got him honestly I think I got
him you know what from a uh price to
Value pers perspective I think that’s
makes a lot of sense uh Zach how are the
how are the conditions feeling out there
as we head into uh the later part of
this
afternoon uh the temperature is
definitely I feel like it’s cooled off a
little because the wind has gradually
picked up I’d say it’s probably like
around 10 mph um and it’s overcast so
it’s definitely a little cool but I
think these players will be okay I think
we’re going to see some hot scores for
sure
we got some killers on this
card time to watch this feature card te
off right now here on hole number one as
we get a look at the Cana current
conditions let’s send it down to the
tea ladies and gentlemen we are live on
the te with your 325 n time here at the
2024 music open presented by lar disc
this is your n feature card first on the
te welcome your defending MCO Champion
Simon
La just enough power still nice shape on
it for Benjamin
Callaway Ben Callaway what a story at
the Jonesborough
open came so close to winning his first
Elite Series played fantastic
and be great to see him keep up that
momentum this
weekend not going to happen next up to
the team give it up for Jay Heimer
[Applause]
another really exciting player to watch
he plays with a lot of
passion tons of power on the forehand
and backhand
side going with a safer forand here just
giving himself some sort of look from C1
maybe the edge
rounding out your M feature card we have
Chris
Dickerson Chris’s play is picked up here
in 2024 starting to look like himself
again but also dealing with a chronic
hip problem that was just diagnosed
posted about that on Instagram
[Applause]
Lu so the feature card will head down
the Fairway of the
first gonna get a chance to hear from
Tennessee native Chris Dickerson right
now who’s with Zach Melton
Zack I think you well they sent it to me
Chris I I got one question for you how
many times have you been to hatti bees
this week only one I went there this
morning actually that’s disappointing I
thought you’re going to say eight times
but hey good luck today buddy thank
you this morning to Hatty bees they must
make a breakfast Hot Chicken Sandwich of
some kind of course why would you not I
I guess there’s your clientele right
there it’s the 18th Andrew mared and are
driving on right
now long downhill 500 plus foot
shot pretty short on that that might be
a
layup Mar sitting in a tie for first at
the moment heimberg second shot on the
third fights its way in there should
have a putt
Dickerson inside the circle with his
second back to three
Barella he’s got to get over this tiered
Rock green
here oh
yeah that’s really solid Circle one putt
for great birdie there for ab
Callaway has to straddle out
wide nicely
done was that long birdie
look just inside Circle two
yes he’s always good for one or two of
those kicking it off here early on hole
number one yeah that’s just a beautiful
stroke No Doubt
Heimer just outside the
circle Chris Dickerson’s got the camo
pants I feel like he wore these last
year maybe a different style of
camo in for the
[Applause]
par they get these little pockets of
trees these greens that are pretty
heavily protected got to make these
putts when you can cuz some of these
open field putts are going to be brutal
with the Wind
Callaway Cashes in the par
Heimer for his
par he’s
in back to three bella for a birdie
circles
Edge oh
boy using the backboard that time yeah
that’s a nice little squeak in the
strong side there not too
shabby Calvin pigu putting for Birdie on
the
12th maybe a little bit of a spoiler
there oh yeah he’s got it he’s got a
share of the
lead five way tie at seven under
sounds about right front Nine’s going to
be a little bit shorter easier to score
on back nine is real challenging so
scoring back there is going to take you
ahead of the
field heimberg for
birdie he’s
[Applause]
in to the 18th
bared putting for birdie to get to eight
under and become the solo leader
not
close so Simon coming off the huge 63t
make this 375 OB all around the basket
here and that’s not going to be a sharp
shot there for Simon
there’s just so much danger around this
basket if you’re going with the forehand
you got to control the
landing coming in with too much pace is
not going to be prime
here it’s got to get going right
yeah
yep Circle Edge for
Callaway on this one if you’re going
with the forehand I like clubbing down
on the speed and making sure that the
the absolute limit of your distance is
is still maybe a little short of the
basket
a little better shape here from
Heimer and he’s
[Applause]
[Music]
rewarded and ran I want to note we were
talking before we came on the air see
some forehand Specialists and a lot of
left-handed players up near the top of
the leaderboard right now there’s a lot
of really tough left to right angles out
here and if you’re throwing any sort of
counterclockwise shot well you are going
to do very very well on this property
the beginning of the broadcast there
were I believe three lefties in the top
five so this could be the
weekend it’s a tough inside line but
squeaks through there’s OB over
there I should I should have knew
better that’s on me if it’s blew and
it’s over
stable to the fourth Bella
pretty solid pretty similar distance on
the second shot with the forehand basket
up on the right side on the tree line
now
pedig got to get as close to the right
side tree line as possible on this one
not
bad seeing already quite a few placement
shots off the T setting up those second
shots into the green
heimberg throwing his second on the
fourth and going along with what you
said Charlie having no sidearm out here
is is going to be really challenging and
let’s let’s talk about this let’s talk
about the breakdown brought to you by
black Inc disc the premium disc golf
store offseason StairMaster training
Charlie you’re going to be hiking 3 four
miles out here on this ridiculously long
course there’s long walks but between
teads you got the rolling heels of
Tennessee so it’s going to be a tough uh
round on your legs because of that the
Fairway shots are going to be tough
you’re never going to be throwing from
flat ground most of the time so you have
to compensate for your release angle dis
stability and then warm up the rotator
cuff Charlie you’re going to be throwing
a lot of sidearms out here if you’re a
right-handed player mil Ridge is playing
really really
challenging Brian’s breakdown is brought
to you by blackin disc.com the premium
disc golf store
layup for Chris
Dickerson back over to the fourth
perella’s
second doesn’t like
it he’s going to have a putt that’s a
very fortunate sneak
through Simon
[Applause]
short putt left for
par Logan
Bowers second shot on the
fourth well
[Applause]
done that’s going to be Bow’s first
birdie here’s Ben Callaway from circles
Edge for
birdie yes
the putter has looked so good coming out
of his hands ever since Texas States I
believe he took 11th Place there came
out to Jonesboro got second and now here
he is I I’ve talked to Ben pretty
extensively during this stretch and he
said it feels like something clicked uh
mentally for him believing himself that
he actually believing in himself that he
actually can win one of these I think
for a while he was starting to count
himself
out Heimer in for the birdie
Simon Taps it in for
par and a par tap in for Chris
Dickerson heberg
low and
right 15 foot
comebacker third put for aand
that’s about 40
feet little bit of wind coming off those
feather
[Applause]
banners it’s a tough putt if you hit the
cage on any heer you could be rolling
way down there bad drop off on the right
side well Off the Mark so some work left
to save par pedigree third shot on 13
puts it under the basket
to the third Callaway teeing
off they’re throwing a placement
forehand here they want to challenge
this OB as much as possible so the
second shot isn’t over 400 450 ft this
is a really tough
second Barella for
par not a problem remains one down
by his standards this season it’s kind
of a slow start
mhm
Heimer these are all these are all
decent t- shots I I think with the power
that Ben and Jake both have I think
they’re more than capable of throwing
that distance driver on the
second Simon going a little straighter
with the backand
similar line there for
Dickerson of
course lots of white staked OB out here
players just trying to play conservative
and speaking of conservative this is
Calvin he’s been practicing this line
all week he doesn’t care about the
birdie you need to flex back to the left
at the end if you want a birdie putt but
he just wants to put one out
there to the
fifth got a new green
sign what’s the story
Brian I think the green sign has a
couple of functions I think one of them
though is to block players from going
over the top and
I guess it doesn’t matter for ab because
that was a massive sidearm through the
Gap he’s way up
there oh well done from Chris Dickerson
a little Plinko up onto the
Shelf back to five for
heimberg yeah it’s definitely making
players think twice before taking that
high route to go over the top
now to the
18th oh what a skip that’s a
putt So Nice Shot there from K raland
Simon on the third
[Applause]
yeah not bad base of the Rocks is going
to give you a circle Edge just outside
Circle one putt now
Calvin excellent shot
Callaway he’s trying to go lower he’s
trying to get a skip up
there and that’s going to be potentially
something sawing it off left definitely
lowers your chances of a good
putt this used to play as a par three
and they used to go straight act uh
straight at the Rock Terrace and now
they’re coming in at an
angle what a shot from Jake
kenimer saw a couple of those shots
climb up onto those rocks Zach what
makes the difference there if you want
to try to climb up onto that green
instead of putting from the base
yeah so with the low ceiling required
and how far away these guys are throwing
these shots I think it’s pretty common
that the disc is kind of running out of
steam and coming in flat and they just
don’t get that skip up over the rocks
and The Ledges and I think Jake and
Chris both made an effort to keep it on
Heiser hitting at the the mouth kind of
the edge of the circle and they both
jumped up into Circle one
great
Insight let’s go to the 18th this is
ralin putting for the birdie to take the
lead
outright very
close but it remains a five-way tie at
the top at seven under
par only two birdies so far James
Proctor and Ty love just a super
challenging downhill shot especially
with this
wind so that’s how Cole rollin’s round
finishes up seven down
Ben
Callaway giving it a real chance ticking
it off the band they’ll have a short
comebacker for
par and just according to plan
pedigree easy tap in for the par and a
hole that some players just don’t want
to mess
with Simon
you bet he knew
it that mini was going back in the
pocket as soon as he Let It
Go I mean similar to what we saw in one
it just comes out looking like it’s
going in right
away Dickerson in for his birdie
and we talked about Chris’s hip injury
and he said it’s a pretty serious thing
but he also did mention and was very
clear that it shouldn’t be affecting the
way he plays disc golf it’s just
something that takes a little extra care
little extra preparation now so
Dickerson fans should not have to worry
about this in the near
future Ben Callaway in for
par
Heimer best drive at the
group and an easy
birdie take another
extra well you mentioned Chris’s post
about his hip here it is over on
Instagram very open
honest discussion from Chris Dickerson
and sounds like in the future he’s going
to have to get a hip replacement at some
point but they don’t want him to do that
until he’s over the age of 50 so
basically in his his post professional
disc golf
career yeah it’s uh it’s tough we play a
rotational
sport hopefully he uh can have a
nice long career here in the sport it’s
a joy to watch him and now AB second
shot from just a really solid position
after that
forehand 20-footer up there for biry now
pedigree for par
the safe play did not go according to
plan I think even he left himself
shorter than he
thought Heimer on the
fourth
perfect four is playing pretty easy
today it’s uh easiest toll on the course
right
now 62% birdie rate yeah you just got to
hit the Gap hit the Gap here you can
pretty much throw two of the same
shot the OB long is pretty far away you
know the type of forehand you’re
throwing out this Gap is not going to
push forward usually that
far
ooh this is a play that I find very
interesting Dickerson getting aggressive
here with the backhand roller he’s going
to lay it down so
quickly is this
reachable I don’t think it’s reachable
but it’s going to make the second super
easy oh that’s
crafty note the posture it takes to
throw that type of roller you have to
lean so far back pull the shoulder
blades back it it’s tough to even create
a swing plane that can lay a disc down
like that that nicely
[Applause]
done
perfect stock forehand there from Ben
believe that’s a little nine speed he’s
throwing Calvin oh birdie putt goes
High to the 14th Ricky for
birdie and he is in so that gets him to
six
under which even though he’s tied for
seventh is only one shot off the lead I
think we’re going to see another weekend
just like we’ve been seeing all year oh
no
Charlie that’s
tough well and it’s surprising I mean
Calvin has been a circle one putting
Master to start the season
he didn’t miss a circle one put for two
or three
tournaments but uh tough three putt here
on the
fifth Bella for
birdie his second of the
[Applause]
rounds yeah Calvin came into this
tournament one of two players putting
90% from Circle one and
uncharacteristic Nice Shot there from
Rick on 15 just got to put it up there
as far as you
can well that didn’t didn’t go the way
he wanted it
to well outside the circle
massive Green Space here at mil Ridge
again 130 Acres of Rolling
Hills and what a roller Chris through
such a confident shot again we talk
posture he’s leaning so far
back it is so difficult to do that and
actually when I work with a player in
private lessons who can’t throw flat and
they’re so used to throwing that nose up
Heiser flip I try to get them to throw
these types of rollers to show the
posture and the spacing that it takes to
actually throw a disc flat obviously
this is an extreme example but not many
players can throw this this confidently
with that type of Gap that
is
nasty card mates impressed as well
350 ft in for
Dickerson buzzing the
basket it’s a pretty unconventional way
to play the hole just a force over
roller and then the backhand turnover
you got guys that are going to go chip
forehand chip
forehand beautiful thing about our game
now AB on six
tight to the right side back to the
fourth
Callaway got to hang this farther left
than you think because of the
slope Nice
[Applause]
Shot sweet it’s that Ben
eimer can see the
basket yeah he threw a forand with
something that had a little bit of
underst stability and just got a little
bit of Glide at the end of the flight
way up
there pedig coming off the birdie on 14
drops him one shot back of the
lead oh not good here on the 15th and
that is easily out of bounds and he’s
got a long way to go as well that’s a
tough t- shot to throw out of
bounds now Calvin on Six coming off the
three putt
bogey clean t- shot
want to throw it down to Zach Melton
right now Zach you mentioned earlier
this morning that the Tailwinds out here
were pretty stiff and that a lot of
these players without the big side are
we’re having a tough time throwing the
turnovers is that still the still the
case out
here yes so right now it is still the
case on this approach uh the wind is
behind the players which probably is I I
think oh my gosh he made that that I
just oh my God I missed it what a putt
this guy he literally had the backend
turnover the wind kept it from turning
I’m walking away to talk to you guys and
then he just jams it unbelievable who
thought he was going to make that what a
but two still
there wow I mean there there you have it
I mean that’s exactly what Zach was
saying we saw Calvin make the same
mistake not getting the disc to flip
late Simon does it has to jam a
60-footer
uh eimer leaves it low talk about
getting big
putted was a monster from
Simon Dickerson
that’s a sick birdie that is just nasty
birdie Charlie I love watching a player
like Chris just carve some of these
lines throw those aggressive rollers
that’s
awesome Callaway with the e easy tap in
birdie Heimer in for
par well there’s your leaderboard
wow we’ll be back on the disc golf

golf.com Simon lazat coming off the
60-footer
T off on the
fifth yeah you’re not going to see that
from that camera angle he’s going for
the really conservative layup up to the
mouth that’s going to be just fine as
long as he doesn’t get a skip there now
Calvin
[Applause]
well
done back to
five
[Applause]
Dickerson nice little layup there that’s
going to put him right in the mouth not
too
bad AB on
six seems a little call out
here hits the tree lands just outside
the
circle might have to deal with those
trees you know Charlie I see all these
players going for the M throw this kind
of really conservative layup I kind of
liked the option to go over the top but
if you look on the other side right now
nothing in that tall grass is out of
bounds I
think if in a different Universe you
make the Tall Grass OB you take away the
sign you let them try to go over the top
I still think it’s a pretty risky
shot but right now the players are just
going to try to set themselves up for a
good
second or set yourself up for a massive
forehand look at this and that’s the
tall grass that I’m talking about
Charlie looks like it should be roped
off but it’s all safe
big t- shot from
Heimer Waki one shot off the lead second
shot on the par 5
15 got to watch The Landing
here should be
decent Barella putting for birdie does
have a clean look
oh
boy good height but missed it right
right back to circle’s
edge off the cage Chris
Dickerson he is locked in right now
Simon loves it
I think I just heard him say no one knew
how good that
was look how close this came I got to
throw this down to to Zack Melton again
Zack Chris Dickerson just hit off the
tray uh is you being on the card any uh
indicator is he going to ace for us
today Brian I think it’s almost a given
that he’s probably going to get an ace
because it’s just just what he does if
I’m around him he wants to throw it in
the basket and rub it in my
face and then he’ll get the guitar the
Ace Guitar they’ll bring it out to him
and Chris Dickerson will start shredding
it right in front of Zach’s face that
would be uh a moment in television we
would not forget I don’t know if the
shredding is there yet Charlie but if
you get one of these guitars you’re
going to have to learn cuz this man
right here Simon said he toured the
Gibson Factory and was just blown away
he saw 15,000 guitars
this
week oh it fights
through great
shot the comebacker for Bella 32
footer
okay and that’s kind of the function of
these elevated baskets it shrinks the
green makes a miss that much
bigger Calvin for
birdie so he’s back under par on the
round
and remember Ganon
Burr was only one under through eight
holes before finishing his round at
seven down and currently tied for the
lead so there is definitely scoring
opportunities here’s where heimer’s t-
shot ended up second shot here on the
fifth pretty straightforward look it’s a
really nice t-shot
and a fortunate pop out there for Jake
that’s that’s a nice birdie putt for him
now Ricky putting for birdie long look
here from
C2 to tie the
lead
close but
low let’s take a look at this
leaderboard there’s a lot going on right
now good God Charlie tall Paul on a
heater right now seven down through 10
holes yakub humph Casey
Clemens I I got to give a shout out to
Ganon Burr taking the triple bogey on
eight and then battling back here he
told me during the week he actually
loves this course he really thinks it’s
laid out nicely for him um and he’s also
not too happy that AB has gotten the
three wins this year he wants to chase
him down he really wants to get this
tournament love the competitiveness take
a look down the leaderboard I mean look
how many people are within four shots of
the lead or 30 people deep you go almost
40 people deep are within four shots of
the lead right
now are you surprised no can’t can’t be
surprised anymore I am slightly
surprised at this scramble this rough on
this course here at mil Ridge is so
thick Nice Shot there from
Ben and now we got a birdie look
can’t get it to stick right
side
Dam frustrating day on the green so far
for eimer
Callaway for
par nicely
done I think an eagle would be nice
Charlie but I I’m sure he’s totally fine
with a a three there that’s three in a
row for Chris
Dickerson Simon tapping in for the
birdie as
well so Simon’s four birdies he’s got a
tap in a 32t putt a 63t putt and a 70
foot
putt heimberg T off on seven
so that’s Calvin saying I don’t trust
the inside gap on this hole we’ll see
the hole a little bit more when the lead
card gets there but he’s playing a super
conservative route with that
backhand yeah that shot on the left is
pretty much strictly for Lefty backhands
and righty Flex forehand so Calvin
really just wanted to play for par here
big flare skip for
Ricky and if you want to watch Ricky or
any of these pros play live and in
person come on out get yourself a ticket
now tickets are on sale for every dgpt
event so you can scan that QR code or
you can go to DG pt.com
tickets tour is about to start heading
Westward they’ll be at Champions Cup
next weekend less than a week away from
the first no major of the
Season Northwood wait four rounds in
Peoria and then we’ll go all the way out
to the West
Coast scan that QR code right now
reserve your discol pro tour tickets for
any of the upcoming
events this is a great uh indicator here
of what hole six looks like you have
pretty tight Gap to hit but then after
that you’re just going dead straight you
got OB all down the sides I was watching
some players with some pretty big arms
just throwing a midrange off the T just
trying to stick it in the middle not
having to worry about the right side
Tree Line pinching off your angle
zot T off on
six oh yeah that
is absolutely perfect nice shot
conservative we saw the slower disc come
out there for Chris and again the hole
is not that long he obviously can get up
and down from there
yeah nicely done that’s actually a
really nice position for Ben thank you
he can go forehand backhand heer on
both there’s a few spots out here
Charlie where challenging the o be lines
as close as you possibly can can give
you the best possible angle to the
basket and I I really like that element
of for
design head up up head up head
up a great job by The Spectators getting
out of the way as that snuck back
in it’s tough sometimes Charlie they
yell heads up at you you want to get
your head up but you really need to duck
down you need to get out of the way look
how close this came
this this man saw his life flash before
his eyes as this drive was powered by
NAA look at this he looks up oh oh my
goodness wow that was he splits the
wickets and gets it back in
bounds I want to hug that guy both of
those guys nice work blue hoodie had to
lean back a little bit
they’re awake now they are fully awake
now
Charlie you see on your leaderboard Luke
humph Casey White NOW tied for the lead
up at eight under
par heimberg is forced to pitch out he
went
[Applause]
deep again I think that was nearly
intentional I think maybe he would have
liked something in circle two in the
short grass but I I think he’s totally
fine with the
three
nope little shaky on the putting green
today for
Bella he’s got three Circle one misses 0
for two from Circle
two great shot from Ricky
Waki back to the six with
Dickerson it’s got a
flare oh
yeah Chris is looking good right now
he is looking awful good about to tap in
his fourth birdie in a
row Simon also in position to throw a
nice second and grab his fifth birdie
through six holes oh worth noting Chris
Dickerson finished third here last year
silon zot won this tournament seeing
some of the guys who played well here
last year looking sharp early
beautiful yeah I think we forget last
year we talked about AB having it be his
tournament to win and Simon coming in
late Chris was the man that everyone was
talking about going into the final
day yeah Ben got way up there
oh not going to happen but still inside
Circle one
let’s go check in with Calvin
pedig hunting for Birdie on the
16th
no so he’ll have a comebacker for par he
kind of dropped off the pace he was tied
for the lead a few holes
back but took that bogey on 14 and then
went out of bounds on the t-shot on 15
in for the
par still very much in the
conversation Heimer 300 ft into the
pin not really really a flare he’s going
to have uh still some work left to do
there but not too
bad to the eight
heimberg that’s
smoked oh that’s really good Charlie
he’s going to have a lot more space
being on that left side to throw the
Heiser Ricky for birdie that gets him to
seven
under he’s one shot off the
lead Bella o I like him going up the gut
I think a lot of power players are going
big
Heiser he might be pinched behind that
grouping of trees but again I love
seeing him go for more of the Finesse
play
great look at the Fairway from our
flight Factory drone
Callaway putting for the birdie
confident
stroke talked to him a little bit after
Jonesboro and we had a long discussion
about a couple those little things that
happened late including the spit out on
hole number 11 and I just love the way
his mindset has just refined over time
he said he felt almost nothing in that
moment when he got that little 7ot spit
out out went on to Birdie the next hole
it’s tough to do that when uh you know
everything
matters even Heimer talking to
himself let’s go to the 18th Casey white
is one of your co-leaders up at 8 under
par Casey trying to go a little straight
at it just a little bit too
low
eimer splashes out
left man Jake has just worked so hard in
his putt over the years he’s changed it
a few times and it’s just been a part of
the game that he’s struggled with for a
while and funny enough whenever it comes
together you see his name right towards
the top almost every time but it’s uh
it’s hard it’s definitely not a g given
to be uh a great putter at this level
and Dickerson tap in for birdie Heimer
drops it in for the
bogey oh yeah this is going to be tough
he got to force this one over a little
bit that gets caught up in the
trees and is it going to be in
bounce ah it doesn’t look
likely spotter gives him the green flag
wow
excellent quite fortunate there that OB
line tucks in Fairly deep inside that
tree line so lucky break for Bella
yeah yep not bad at all Circle
Edge Waki on
17 Two Shots off the
lead should be good should be really
solid up there sweet hang out a little
bit Luke humph he just birdied 15 16 and
17 to take the outright lead once again
now at nine
underpar he’s got 10 birdies and a bogy
on the
ninth Casey white is one shot back
white is bogey free
today and kind of left himself a little
too much work on that par
putt Simon come on on the par
37th and that’s pretty much exactly what
you want to do here yeah you want to get
it on edge and then get it to roll
forward too that’s kind of the high
level line nicely done
Simon I think he’s going to be
pleasantly surprised walking up to that
lie you got to put a lot of Chop on it
but you got to give it
height and uh Chris just didn’t do that
not seeing too many forehands from
Chris but there is a sucker gap on that
right side but the problem is you hit
any tree and kick right you see how
tight that OB string is on the right
side it’s an open Gap but as we saw with
Calvin he’s not going to take that even
if it’s his only option with the
backhand
that’s a good stability from Callaway
that’s got to get back
right
yeah well
[Applause]
done Casey white for the par save on 18
to finish out eight under par on the
rounds
Charlie missing that putt leaves the
most sour taste in your mouth possible
you’re so close to finishing the round
you got a routine layup to the
basket kudos to Casey for dropping that
comebacker
in even Heimer leaves it too high off
the branch and he’s got to be careful he
doesn’t go on tilt here
yep here he is
now so we get back over to
18 Luke
Humphries who’s currently tied for the
lead with yakub
samarat samod just birdied
16 to get to nine under
he’s got to fight
back a he crushed it but way too far
right and that looks like it was a red
flag so Barella Clips a tree
Heimer second on
seven see
Charlie you you’ll learn how to throw
that shot is everybody looking at I
guess rolling I guess yeah so this is
for par for Bella from 60 feet
yes he’s been on the chains but not in
the basket from distance so far and that
one was dead center it’s got to feel
good it’s got to feel real good right
now he needs something to get that
momentum
back he’s telling it to calm down and it
does nicely done
back to the green of the eth
heimberg for
birdie it’s really
low Ricky approaching to green with his
third
shot for
another great putt for Ben Callaway as
he gets another birdie and he’s now four
down
Simon red hot to
start I mean Charlie saw the guitar
that’s going to be used as the trophy
this year and he knows he’s got to have
it in his collection he said it’s
definitely not a
downgrade which is exciting for all of
us to see I I I’m really looking forward
to seeing what it looks
like Simon is six down through seven
Dickerson TAPS in for par four
down Heimer tapping in for the
par exciting finish to this first round
coming
up with this collaboration with Discraft
and grip the goal is to make the best
bag in disc golf on and off the
course this bag is designed beyond the
course this is made for the travel this
is made for the tour it’s really made
for the athlete of the

use Luke humph was out of bounds off of
his t- shot so that was his third and
he’ll have a tap in for
bogie that will leave yakub samrad as
your solo leader at nine under
par so we’re watching them throw kind of
out into the distance and as you see the
basket here it’s completely blind off
the tea there’s water behind uh was
walking with Ganon Burr one round in
practice and he told me just throw at
the barn in the distance th those are
the only reference points you got so
tough shot there now Simon on eight
going big
Heiser and that’s not going to be good
that’s a red
flag you wonder if he touched in Bounds
at all
Callaway well done
he’s been leaving himself a lot of 35
Footers Charlie that’s a tough round of
disc golf right there he’s got to get
something
going this is why I love this t-shot
here on eight pretty balanced players
going up the gut and outside
yeah really nicely done there for
Chris before today Chris Dickerson had
started 100 tournaments in the state of
Tennessee he’s won 68 of them and he’s
finished in the top 10 at 99 of them
he’s got the best chicken at least to to
his standards I’m going to go to Hatty
be for breakfast tomorrow I didn’t even
know about that hady be’s breakfast
special
Charlie extra
hot Ricky for Birdie on
17
yes so he is now one shot back of the
lead Bella for a long birdie downhill
water behind
maybe just enough danger to leave that
low so barell is going to finish out the
front nine just one under

look at this little flip shot from Jake
beautiful
line got it to ride up to almost flat
softly land
oh you got to flip it more than that go
right
right fortunate kick there for Ben I
think he’s uh he was sweating on that
one a little
bit Simon lining up his shot and Zach we
were wondering whether or not that ever
was you know in bounds did you get a
chance to see that when he threw it from
the
te yeah so from the T angle you could
kind of tell that the disc didn’t react
naturally it kind of did a looked like a
horizontal bounce to the right and the
question was whether it hit in or not
and the spotter informed the group that
it did hit inbounds then jump out so
he’s basically he’s got a mark and he
did Advance he’s would have been reing
if it had not hit in but he is behind
this little cluster of trees so he’s
kind of kind of in a bad spot but at
least he
Advanced here it is again and you see
that anti- Skip it’s equally fortunate
and extremely unfortunate uh I mean like
Zach said at least he got to advance the
Fairway that could have been really bad
if it was three feet to the
right I think Jake kenimer saw the spot
on the ground like we’re playing a clay
court tennis match is it
will spot exactly where it hit in yeah
like for instance if your one foot is
off the Tad and one’s off and you throw
such as that then that would be that
would be legal but however if you’re
here and you’re put a skill on the
ground and the disc is released that
would technically be a
fault yes that was fine to
me
okay Zach can you Enlighten us they’re
talking about some some stance uh
violations did you hear any of the
chatter with
Simon yes so Simon the uh angle he wants
to take to throw this approach where I’m
assuming he’s going to attempt to save
par he uh is running up from out of
bounds or or kind of riding the line and
uh he was just discussing uh or I guess
talking with Ben about whether or not he
needed to make sure his foot his back
foot was up his left foot um and so they
were I guess just making sure he knew he
needed to get that up off the
ground and it looks actually clean from
The Stance violation standpoint and as a
shot what a
shot you saw him consciously pick the
back leg up that can totally screw up
your timing and that was crazy
good what a shot from Simon
lazat oh that’s just a pretty line and
he just keeps it inside the trees on the
left and slides it into the
bullseye here’s heimberg putting for
Birdie on the
ninth
no some putting woes for Calvin heimberg
inside the circle we go to the 18th Yaki
one shot off the lead
right side is pretty heavily guarded but
the Heiser is obviously the safe
play he might have something might be
pretty
obstructed still a great round from
Ricky great
start 400 to the PIN for Dickerson this
has got to land soft
s it’s going to be tricky from back
there duable but tricky now heimberg on
10 this is a huge
t-shot so good so so good there’s be
short too so if you try to push that
distance left you could very easily skip
down the slope OB he he’s going to that
green driver he’s been just smashing All
Season that is
crushed Ricky on 18 just going to lay up
back to the
eighth Callaway’s
third this hole used to be 17 it was
just such a treacherous par 4 at that
point in the round and now hole number
eight getting to the middle part of the
round it’s no
different Ricky closes out
eight under par the one bogie on the
ninth solid day overall it’s wild to
talk about but Ricky hasn’t taken a wind
down this year Charlie is this going to
be his
weekend certainly put himself in a
position after round one to be in
conversation and I mean he was close to
chess.com but Anthony Bella just
outplayed him he was gutted at chess.com
it was a very emotional interview uh
coming up short
so Ricky cashed for the first time in
open Charlie in
2010 and he’s still
here just crazy
longevity now
Dickerson not going to stick
Callaway to save
par so flat so solid
if you’re trying to learn a push putt
folks this is one of the push putts to
watch super textbook from
Ben and what a par save from Simon
got the hottest round going on the
course inside of the front nine six down
through seven make it eight after
tapping in just a moment
ago Heimer birdie
go first birdie since the
third here’s yakub sod’s thir third shot
on the 17 he is your current
leader he gets the green flag and he
would make the birdie putt from there so
six down in the
back and nine birdies in the last 11
holes as he is your outright Leader by
Two Strokes oh he’s a blast to watch
Charlie I cannot wait to see him
throughout the
weekend nice round so far and here we is
live on the 18th
520 foot par
three only five birdies so far
today yeah a lot of players really not
trying to mess with that right side I
think the better play to get the birdie
is to go straight at it but are you
really going to chance that line
James Proctor got a birdie on the 18th
throwing it in for 94t not too shabby
that’ll
work Bella second on the
10th another long putt for Anthony
Bella feels like he’s just 2 three% off
on shots and putts right now but then
you watch him back at Texas States how
many 32 to 40 Footers did he hit to
shoot those rounds to got him the
victory I think uh it’s just kind of how
some of these courses shape up unless
you’re throwing a Flawless shot you’re
going to end up around Circle one but uh
you’re you’re right in saying that the
the Precision is not the same as we saw
the first two
wins thank you thank you
got a Paul Omen sighting
here yes
[Applause]
sir knocks it
down so that was to save par on the
13th what a pace he’s on right now
Charlie eight down through 13
holes wow
here’s the scorecard for Paul Omen bogey
free don’t have the stats for him but uh
what more do you need to know than all
these birdies piling up another guy
that’s been around a long time throws
the disc a long way nice round so far
oh
yeah fortunate
buried back to the 18th
samod he ran it he had a little bit of a
back stop
there didn’t find metal but he’ll have a
short putt left for par Simon on the
ninth crafty footwork from the catch cam
birdie putt there for
Simon it’s tough it’s completely blind
this is all just depth perception and
feel your practice
rounds are where you got to spend
throwing all sorts of discs to figure
out what feels the best what’s the most
forgiving oh boy red flag there for
Callaway that caught the down slope
and that’s going to be a tough comeback
as well
Dickerson well done just got to sit
curls up
nicely
25-footer try to get to five
under heimberg putting for Birdie on the
10th from 100
feet back to 18 yakub seod to finish out
his round this for par
what a
round nine under from hole s to
17 and he is double digits under
par at the top of the leaderboard
Barella putting for Birdie on the
10th another Splash out for
ab Paul Omen T off on
15 very idiosyncratic form you could
pick this throw out from uh
millions and not
bad nicely done from
Paul long look here for
Jake this is for
bird sticks it
so starting to get a little something
going now three
under that’ll
help saw Ben make a very similar putt
final round whole 17 going out of bounds
long trying to get aggressive aggressive
and hit a really nice pressure comeback
putt let’s see if he can do it
again takes his time
pays
off another nice putt for Callaway it’s
been clean and steady on this front nine
I think the pace just needs to be a
little bit hotter the back nine seems to
be a little tougher to score on but
again we saw yakub go pretty blazing on
the
back Dickerson for birdie from 30 feet
little too much
loft another birdie look here for
Simon to make it seven down on the front
yes Simon is on
fire that’s the best front
nine tied with Paul Omen they both went
seven
under and it’s an exciting round yaku
srod sitting at 10 down who can catch
him
I’m super stoked about my new bag line

here the signature series explores the
evolution of flight get yours March 22nd
on Prodigy disc.com and at your local
retailer well a moment ago in the
picture in picture we saw this from
Anthony Bella on
11 a very short Miss and that’s going to
be a three putt on the 11th he’s going
to
Bogey and he is way off the pace at this
point Jake on and again this has got to
be huge but the distance comes from
going left that’s out of bounds
long that’s going to be a long ways from
the basket as well I want to talk to
Zach Melton actually in practice they
had a pretty stiff headwind I know the
wind is a slightly different direction
what do they have off the T
right I think it’s more of a Tailwind
this
time South West in practice Northwest
today Simon lands just safe
there we go
Ben that’s the play there for Ben
Callaway
well we uh lost the end of Dickerson
there but we’re going over to om
man he’s on the 15th
well and speaking of Paul’s Paul McBeth
five birdies in the back nine including
four in a row and he is now just three
shots off the lead I know this is wild
to say Charlie but it would bring so
much joy to my heart to see Ricky Waki
and Paul MC Beth on a lead card I it
felt like for so long that was just the
standard and we wondered who the other
two were going to be but now it would
just be such a treat at this point of
the year to see them playing and duking
it out
again Baki sitting at 8 down he for the
moment would be on the lead card
tomorrow MC Beth three holes to
play an interesting and very top 10
right now as we go to the 12th heimberg
coming off 30
it’s just a massive Force Flex over the
top the Gap low is such a sucker
Gap lot of space right but it cuts off
your angle this is this is solid but for
Calvin not having a forehand that’s
going to be a tough line
even heimer’s third from the Drop
Zone wow that is a massive
sidearm that drop zone is not far up the
Fairway really well done there from Jake
love that it’s a nice little surprise
for Jake
just got to get a big flare
left wow what a shot Simon lazat dealing
from the Fairway he’s just playing the
ground so well he’s playing the slopes
he’s adjusting for the skips it’s just
so nice to watch He’s I mean nearly
playing perfect for us the Putter’s
hot this is this is really a treat to
watch well he was not really in a
perfect position here on this t-shot and
he’s just making magic even when he’s
out of position yeah ideally you have
the big sidearm window on the left side
with a dead Skip and now these players
going backhand are going to have to be a
little bit
more precise
yeah it’s a good play there for
Chris kind of play that so wide to
compensate for
everything Paul
Omen got caught up in the rough on the
15th he going to just be forced to punch
out with a little forehand
roller he’s got to get this
High not going to get much skip from
where he comes
from slopes down
left dang it
just dropped the
shoulder it up and down for a
par it doesn’t feel like a course where
taking a par is a terrible thing but
then you’re seeing some of these scores
come in and it does feel like you’re
falling
behind Omen for a long par
so Omen will drop back to eight
under by the way Paul McBeth just
birdied on 16 he is now tied for third
at 8 Under
so Callaway puts it
close still a little
disappointing after the t- shot
oh
boy massive Spike Heiser not bad really
not bad might be slightly
obstructed second shot for heimberg
little bit of a worse position than
AB but inside the circle here’s
Dickerson for
birdie it’s freaking annoy
couple
of uncharacteristic High misses for
Dickerson Callaway in for
[Applause]
par and Simon in for another birdie he’s
now eight under
tied for
second and we’re only through 10
holes the course record is 12 under par
although given the changes it’s really
hard to make a true
comparison yeah and I think one of the
changes they’re about to come up to on
hole number 11 Charlie this is a really
interesting par three that they’re going
to have to play but before that we’re
going to jump to 16 Paul Omen going
forehand
got to control the distance here that’s
going to be okay he’s kind of in in the
middle of the two
gaps let’s take a look at hole 11 yeah
this has been a hole that the players
have kind of chattered about all week
and at some point I’d like to throw it
down to Zach to hear what he has to say
but it’s 400 feet you’re going over the
tree line there’s no Gap low to hit so
you don’t get to see the basket uh I
really don’t know this is a hole that we
really haven’t seen much of before um
Zach I I actually want to throw it to
you right now what have you heard from
the players about this hole what’s been
the chatter about the the ways to play
[Music]
it yeah so from I I would say the
majority of the players are all in
unison that they’re not big fans of this
hole um
from what I can tell the really the only
pure way to you know put it in the
bullseye in the circle is is kind of
like a big Lefty backhand turnover or a
a huge righty turnover forehand that
kind of holds the angle and then pans
and flies towards the basket um besides
that you know it’s just it’s a really
tough green to access and actually like
Park you know or put in circle one just
two players today getting inside Circle
one in regulation and getting the birdie
unah and and Jake
wolf on a hole like this Jake wolf is a
pretty pretty typical suspect on this I
know exactly what he did here and nobody
else in the field is going to be able to
do something close to
that hey you want to see like what what
kind of backhand does get
there
okay w Circle two but that’s where we’ve
seen most of the birdies come
from that could be the third birdie
right there I I I’m guessing you have to
go deep and long over the tree line on
the
right just to note Brian the two birdies
were from Circle one there have been
another nine birdies from Circle two or
outside of
that so 11 total on the
day yep come
on that’s pushing pretty good that’s
pushing very good but once again just a
couple steps outside the
circle it is interesting a hole that the
players all kind of go up to and
practice and say I don’t know what to do
with this thing and then yeah I guess
looking at the stats right now like you
said
Charlie it’s cool to see figure it
out still playing among the harder holes
on the
course but it’s a pretty easy par even
if it’s a really tough birdie
Dickerson shot hits the trees falls down
rolls behind that
cluster so he might have a just a pitch
out so alen kind of as you said Brian
between the
gaps may not have much but try to bite
off some of the distance and play for
par ah I think he sees a
window this is bold if he goes for
it okay conservative plays just trying
to advance the
Fairway there was a little twinkle in
his eye Charlie I wasn’t sure
here’s heimberg for
birdie heimberg now three under nice
make through the trees
Barella for birdie
and that’s Bella’s first birdie since
whole
[Applause]
five third shot for Omen on
16 it’s not a great
shot he’s going to have some work to do
from down the
hill Dicker going to straddle
out 50 ft out
left with the tap
in steimer trying to make it three
birdies in the last four holes
and despite some of the putting
struggles and he’s still right in the
thick of this
round yes
yes cashes it in right side good
height so he gets to four under par tied
for 23rd you just throw a 438 ft Spike
Heiser and here you are Simon lazat to
get one shot off the lead into solo
second you
bet Simon on
fire his only pars coming on holes two
when his Drive was short and eight when
he went out of bounds and then made a
beautiful recovery shot to get onto the
green make the putt from 30 ft
Callaway for
birdie wow uh guess we got to eat our
words here Charlie this hole is not too
uh not too difficult I guess three
birdies out of four here on the lead
card or the lead feature
card I also think that was uh three in
incredible power heisers over the tree
line that is a massive shot so hats off
to those boys as they move on to the
next
hole Simon looks good right now
Charlie he has been very impressive
let’s take a look at some of what he has
done
today we kick things off on hole number
one from 63
ft this is how it’s looked coming out of
his hand all day it just looked like
it’s no problem he’s got the sweet spot
with the spin putt going and everyone in
their local community can can uh relate
to this there’s always a spin putter
like a Simon lazat straight from the hip
pure risty spin putt when they catch
fire it’s game over from 70 feet and in
and look at this just gorgeous down the
hill on four 70f footer
and just a moment
ago edge of the circle
again knocks it home the tempo on the
putt just looks so good it looks firm
but slow at the same
time Zach I want to check in with you
what do you feel like you’re seeing
that’s going so well for
Simon so oddly enough uh I checked with
Simon before the around asked him how he
was
feeling to uh keep it PG he said not
well and you know I think last week at
Jonesboro going into the final round it
was much of the same but he’s just
finding a way to make it work it kind of
looks almost effortless like he’s just
keeping the game very simple throwing
simple shots and he’s just making his
putts and it’s it’s
working said in the press conference you
know he’s dealing with the cold he’s got
that back problem that he’s been dealing
with and then he kind of jokingly said
something along the lines of the worse I
feel the better I play it’s easier to
tune out the pressure and the
expectations when I feel like
garbage Barella kick left into the trees
on
13 really one of the first rounds of the
year that it feels like we’ve seen
Anthony Bella not look sharp
believe after the first first round he’s
been in the top four pretty much every
tournament so far this year except for
this one it’s looking like this this
might be the
first and this is really conservative
for Paul Omen not sure if that was an
intentional
placement nonetheless safe
well that was smoked over to the right
side Simon’s going to have a big spike
Heiser over the tree
line still
safe second shot for heimberg on the
13th okay Circle two
Heimer on
12 great look at the t-shot from our
flight Factory
drone yeah you see here that’s a tough
spot he’s going to have to throw kind of
a technical turnover on that one you
want to be in that short gr Short Grass
on the left so they want you to throw a
full Flex backand it’s pretty tall order
though
see if Ben has something stable enough
to snap back to the
Lefty smokes that
one now Ben has options now Ben can
throw the forehand now Ben can go Heiser
if he wants that’s that’s a really nice
t- shot
there top five right
now well top three even including Simon
Paul
Ricky another
Paul a little bit like a throwback right
now Chris
Dickerson it’s out of bounds
he has kind of since the start of the
round been a little bit of a bad
mood heimberg for a longdistance
birdie he’s got to navigate that skinny
tree right in front of
him oh boy and another terrible reaction
off the top of the basket that’s going
to be near circle’s Edge
again second shot for
Omen this is
risky he’s got to get back to the
right now where is he
going oh very conservative shot okay now
I
see thought he was getting aggressive
with that one gave me a heart
attack comebacker for
Calvin
20-footer oh
boy
that’s he has been missing a bunch
really low
today he came into this tournament the
second best Circle two putter on the
tour behind Paul uari who’s having a
pretty historic season inside Circle one
unbelievable but now Calvin not having
the day that’s going to keep those
numbers
high oh we’ve seen him lose his Circle
one putt a little bit it is the low miss
that is the most common
so Simon’s going to go for kind of this
blind
Heiser there’s not even really a lot of
reference points to use this tree line
here blocks pretty much
everything well here we
go well it was close enough we could
hear it land and then look at this
inside the Circle that’s not going to
land 60 feet in front of him like it
like it did at Jonesboro fantastic
shot well let’s take another look at
this from our flight Factory
drone what an incredible shot again from
Simon from the Fairway yeah like he
can’t even see that grouping of trees
back there where the basket
[Applause]
is amazing 10% off with code MCO through
Sunday at flight Factory disc.com
support Calvin heinberg Holland Handley
Madison Walker and more and save 10%
this
weekend Chris GNA try to chop this one
over pretty hard out of the
hand 280 to the
pin if he can get it to snap back
in the middle of the flight he might
have an option or opportunity to take
that
par okay
yeah more than likely an opportunity for
the par from Circle
one well Paul MC Beth he might be back
as he now has birdi six in a row he is
one shot off the lead tied for second
and we’re going to check in with him
right now on the
18th live
look are we going to see a 520t sidearm
from Paul or is this going to be a safe
play he said the sidearm was not really
affected during the laam issue backhand
is still kind of affected but the speed
is definitely looking like it’s back
look at this Flex
Shot
safe cvin sneaks it through
another blind shot here off to the right
for
Jake
wow what a shot from
Heimer I mean these guys are putting on
a show right now feature card has given
us quite the feature this
is yeah yeah this course is not this
easy oh you pushed
it well Ben you pushed it right inside
Circle one not too
bad it’s tough I mean there’s so many
blind shots out here you have to trust
your angle so much it’s hard to know
exactly where you are in the course now
Omen on 17
oh he really pushed that left side
and so he’s going to have some work to
do go back to the 18th MC
Beth jump
putt oh boy that looked like a for a
second it might be chasing the chains
he’ll have a tap in for
par it’s a solid opening effort nine
under par looks like it’s going to be
pretty solid for the rest of the day
except for Simon who’s nine under
through 11 he might make everyone else
look
bad soim I’m going to get to 10 down and
take a share of the
lead was there any doubt
10 down with six holes to play for Simon
lazat good par save for Chris Dickerson
for
and Callaway in for the birdie to get to
six
under he is now 11 for 11 in c1x putting
I noticed it back at Jonesboro he just
looks fantastic the the tempo to which
he putts seems like it’s the same every
single time he takes his time it’s not
too long not too short I am really
loving the way the putter is coming out
of his hand right now Jake Heimer
he’s in for the birdie as
well heimberg after the great t- shot on
14 for
[Music]
birdie get him to Three
Down back over to the
18 MC Beth to finish out his best round
of the season and he is in what a back
nine performance and he is nine under
one shot back of of lazat and
Samad I’m sure some people feel that way
about
blue I don’t know I’m more of a blue
person than I’m a
r well Zach we hear you having a little
chat there with Chris Dickerson uh
what’s the what’s the conversation topic
right
now so we were both actually just
talking about how much we hate the color
red um and that’s yeah we won’t wear it
we won’t throw it it’s just red I Red’s
the devil right Red’s bad yeah that’s
pretty much
it you don’t want to see that red on
your scorecard that’s for
sure that’s great
stuff well let’s talk about somebody
with not much red going on besides the
shirt right now Simon lazat last year at
MCO rocking the red and rocking the
birdies this was a Wild final round for
Simon it it seems to happen like it es
and flows where he Taps into this crazy
Flow State where it looks like he can do
no wrong he looks like he’s hands down
the best player in the world and the way
I describe Simon on the putting green
with that just pure spin putt it looks
like he’s at the arcade playing Super
Shot basketball or something it looks
like he just can’t Miss I I love
watching this guy play when he’s locked
and loaded and today is no
different coming in on
18 season to go putting it under the
basket special Anthony Barella had to
try to throw one in from 100 feet away
he couldn’t do it and Simon took home
that
guitar he wants another one for his
collection how’s special could this
round get 10 down through 12 here we go
he’s teeing off on
13 the ob’s tightened up on this left
side this is a nice conservative play
the angle now is a little bit pinched
he’s going to have to flip something up
on that Heiser back to the basket now
you want to get as close to that tree
line of the right as possible without
going OB
okay
our feature card is a collective 25
under par right
now through 12
holes that is really really solid you
see that green stripe all down the right
side that’s pretty close to perfect but
Ben is going to have a pretty straight
look at the basket
now actually saw quite a few players
playing different plays here I saw some
Putters come out some mid-ranges
forehand some aggressive driver
shots Chris is going really
low to that h no they’re not Ezra
pretty good energy on the
card go to the 15th
Calvin oh that’s bleeding over right
that’s got to snap back
[Applause]
hman putting for par on the
17th holds the balance all
good so Omen Two Shots off the lead as
we check in on our story lines here at
Music City Simon does want a second
guitar
who
wouldn’t and yakub samod looking for his
first pro tour
win he would become the first Czech
player to win on tour of course we just
saw Nicholas anelo
win and you know you look at samod he’s
really improved you know at the end of
2022 he was 72nd in the pro tour
standings last year 42nd he’s currently
sitting in 20th
fantastic from Chris Dickerson this is
such a late Gap to hit and it’s maybe 25
feet wide and uh that’s why we’re
talking about angles on the second you
want something that’s pretty
stock you don’t want to have to hit the
Gap and have to shape something
all
o look at this thing flip that’s got to
sit down
now
redirect little kiss off the tree and
he’s
parked and he loves it yeah that was
screaming that was definitely headed
towards the OB ropes off to the left
side plenty of trees to stop him here we
go with Simon another opportunity need
to grab a
birdie it’s got to
fade gets knocked down into Circle
two can he keep his Circle two putting
going he’s technically only one for one
because the 70-footer is outside Circle
2
this is a big shot from Ben he gets to
go mid maybe even a putter if he wants
to I think he’s going with something
pretty stable nice and flat
didn’t turn
it disappointing after that
t-shot are we in
pioria not that water tower Charlie
wrong water tower but we will be next
weekend Champions Cup starts
Thursday here’s the second shot for
Calvin oh that’s that’s large it’s got
to stay in
though it does not used to not be like
that new OB blocking those types of
shots it’s got to come back left
OB hman on 18
typical Landing Zone there going to have
a layup most
likely speaking of Champions Cup it
starts Thursday April 25th and make sure
you tune in live right here on the disc
golf Network or if you’re in the area
get yourself some tickets DG pt.com
tickets it’s the first moo major of the
Season second fpo
major one of the single coolest places
to watch and or play disc golf
Northwoods is such a special property
that’s one you don’t want to
miss
yeah Jake loves it why would you
not nice little beach frisbee throw
there pops the nose up a little
bit really short swing doesn’t really
extend or turn the shoulders at all
that’s just all wrist
action that’s from years and years of
playing catch with the traditional
Frisbee and he is quite good at
that
Simon oh boy that was looking
good made that one I know SC I would
officially scared
the heat check putt comes up a little
short so Simon will take his third par
of the
round Dickerson for a great
birdie he’s hanging on five down
it’s the third hardest hole on the
course
eimer he’s been heating back
up and he’s got another birdie to get to
six
under tied for
12th Callaway will remain at 6
down and Simon TAPS in for his
par I don’t
think back to 18 Paul Omen second
shot good enough
his long hike here at mil Ridge is
almost
over to the 14th this is such an
interesting hole when it was first put
in the ground the players were shocked
there were so many little trees
scattered throughout the Fairway you
didn’t really quite know what to do this
year it’s opened up quite a bit it’s 294
but you don’t see many players reaching
for a driver to throw a backhand Flex on
a hole under 300 ft and you do see it
here I want to ask Melton actually
Melton as a lefty we’re throwing the
chop forehand we have a luxury but just
talk about how this hole is evolved over
time yeah so seeing it this year this
morning they have done so much work to
to make sure there’s actually a true
line cuz that was the complaint the last
time we were here was that you had to
throw this touchy technical Flex Shot
but also kind of miss a few Fairway
trees and the the tournament the
tournament peeps have have heard the
feedback and they took care of it and
they have made sure this hole is clean
um but it’s still a very technical it
shot that needs a lot of angle out of
the hand and it’s just not a shot that
we throw in tore very often so I would
imagine like Chris Clemens is probably
eating this hole up because as a lefty
with a forehand you can look at the Gap
and face it the whole way without having
to turn away and trust you know your
line yeah it’s so tough as a righty to
throw the overstable driver and actually
get it out in front of you without
throwing it 70 mph this is a touch shot
with a disc that’s not designed to be
thrown with touch so some players may be
clubbing down to something slower just
giving themselves a look for birdie just
a really interesting shot
yeah got the skip beautiful shot from
Dickerson just like Zach said standstill
driver Flex Shot under 300 feet yeah a
little scary here at the end for him as
he has that right
foot kind of fall off the front I don’t
I think maybe he didn’t realize there
wasn’t some of this land on there
Simon knocked down
early it’s weird to see the basket off
to the left and then having to yank it
right takes a lot of trust in the
equipment and the disc that you’ve
chosen
not going to happen there for
Ben yeah I don’t I don’t throw the the
Raptor look at the top 10 Paul McBeth is
in third place at nine under par and he
is in the clubhouse with AJ rizley AJ
take it away
all right I’m joined in the booth by
Paul McBeth after the first round of the
Music City open Paul nine under par
today to start the event how’ the game
feel today I felt pretty good uh slow
start but the back nine I really picked
it up had a lot of Birdie opportunities
early but uh didn’t convert those so I
feel like I dropped a few Strokes I
should have had but feeling good I mean
each week I feel like I’m improving so
that’s the goal we’re we’re just now
creeping into that major season so yeah
I mean we’ve got the major next week do
you feel like this uh this event in
particular is a chance to do some fine
tuning to make some tweaks yeah for my
game it’s been every week I’ve been
trying to work on something and get my
game dialed um the backhand hasn’t been
where I wanted uh but this week I really
feel like I something clicked um and I’m
really controlling the backhand the
angles the turnovers that’s really been
my struggle but here it’s been a lot of
forehands which I think has been key um
because I haven’t been diving into that
as much so I feel like I’m getting a lot
of encourse practice for this one um but
I’m not I’m not overlooking this event
but I’m looking at it as another week to
progress uh going into the major next
week okay well let’s uh Zoom back into
this event and think about this one in
particular your nine down through one
round what do you think it’s going to
take to take home the W this week in my
mind it’s been 32 has been the number
I’ve I’ve been shooting for so Nine’s a
little bit off that pace but uh I did
have a lot of mistakes early on the
greens um and I did have I think one
bogey out there which I don’t recall
what it was I have to think back into it
but uh
yeah I feel like I I really put the game
together today just need to clean those
up and I’ll be right on Pace for that 32
number I’m shooting for great all right
Paul MC Beth thank you for joining us
best of luck thank you awesome
sweet well he’s certainly been steadily
improving I mean I think we’ve seen some
of that and MC Beth has seemed to take
that approach the last couple of years
where he hasn’t been quite as dominant
throughout the season but Brian before
he got hurt at the European open I mean
he played amazing last year right before
that event I know and he was right in
the mix at the European open and he said
he just went and practiced and obviously
did the thing that took him out and uh
the speed has been getting better and
better each tournament and that’s what
ruins your shot shaping is you don’t
know how the discs are going to behave
at certain speeds it’s hard to trust how
fast you’re going to
throw third shot for
Bella and that’s a nice shot he’s got a
short putt left for birdie keimer we saw
him little off The Mark with his
approach and he’s gonna get punished and
take a
bogey there is that bogey he’ll drop
back to five under
[Applause]
Dickerson Taps it in for
birdie he’s six
down Callaway in for the
par well Dolly Parton says stay with us
as Simon lazat and yaku srod tied at the
top lots of action left in this first
round at the Music City
open my name is Garett girthy and I’m
the founder of Doug craft
jerky I love the fact that it’s
resalable I can just get a little bit
keep my energy levels up but not eat
like a half of a meal in the middle of
my round my favorite bag is the smash
Cracked Pepper that’s my perfect salty
snack snack this is my go-to the sex and
sweet and spicy if this bag gets opened
there’s no need for the seal cuz I’m
going to eat it all

you Ranger team thank
you first round coverage of the Music
City open presented by Lone Star disc
continues here on the disc golf Network
yakub samod shot a 10 under today and is
tied for the lead he’s in the clubhouse
AJ take it
away one
okay I’m joined in the booth by yakub
searad after the first round of the
Music City open yakub another great
opening round to start an event um is
your game feeling pretty good what do
you think yeah my game feels really good
at the moment I’ve been throwing good
I’ve been ping really good compared to
my standards and this course suits to my
game a lot because I feel like there is
a lot of uh Flex shots with sidearms and
back ends and that’s usually my strength
so yeah wow you uh you answered the next
question that I had to ask you uh you
know Nate Nate Perkins back in uh
Tournament Central really wants to know
what your best shot is that you’re
leaning on lately I mean you said
forehand and backhand which one is it uh
I would say both but uh I definitely
throw further with my backends but
usually I lean to uh Flex shots and
that’s uh really good on this course I
feel like great um so let’s switch gears
a little bit talk about the putt are you
still sticking with the the full spin
putt out here yeah still the same putt
it worked really well today I had a I
would say maybe like five C2 pots which
was really good in the wind and I’m
pretty happy do you think uh that Circle
two putting is something that is needed
to win out here on tour yeah I I I think
so it’s it’s really important to make
some of those C2 pots unless you are
throwing like really good but that’s I
think that’s not possible to do that uh
consistently is uh is there anything
that you can think of to clean up for
tomorrow’s round or even Sunday’s round
I mean I bie the whole one so it would
be it would be nice to start a little
better but uh uh after that I played
really good so I’m really happy if I’m
going to shoot the same I think I’m
going to be in the contention for the
win so yeah awesome love to hear that
and last Perkins really wants to know um
when are you going to be bringing over
more players from uh your home country
the Czech Republic actually there is one
more yako maybe coming late in the
season so hopefully he’s going to be
also shooting well so yeah there’s more
people coming for sure that’s awesome
news all right Yak thanks for joining us
best of luck the rest of the way thank
you interesting Brian to hear from yakub
there about the flex shots and how that
fits his game well here yeah I think it
does because again when the wind picks
up you could take something overstable
and just jam it on that flex line and
let the wind take it you don’t have to
over shape the disc and uh I think going
back to when Pauling Beth was talking
about his shot shaping is starting to
come back Paul was one of those really
precise Nice Shot shaping type players
he’s not leaning on these super
overstable discs so he has to work that
much harder to fine-tune his releases
and be in tune with his body whereas
yaku or a player like Ricky or Ganon
have a pretty big advantage on a course
like this being able to throw the Flex
Shot so
well second shot for Bella on 16
that’s going to work sweet
shot here’s Calvin throwing his second
shot oh boy safe
but definitely got away with one
there Dickerson’s second here on 15 he’s
going high over the tree line
again there’s OB right so you Flex one
but you can’t Flex it too
far that’s really really
nice didn’t force Flex something kind of
let something late flip in the flight
Calvin’s third after clipping those
branches nice kick off the tree that
time keeps him in bounds and inside the
circle Simon going
Heiser aggressive shot
here early over the tree line
I think that’s okay it just didn’t get
too far up
there didn’t go anywhere I was actually
just about to say that I don’t think he
went he went maybe 300 feet with that
shot
I mean we’re watching The Finish but
we’re mainly looking at how high and how
hard he had to throw it to get it to go
over the tree line so
early still safe
Jake’s Spike forehand is
massive guess I’m a little surprised I
mean I know he had a good one but that’s
impressive another Circle one miss for
Anthony Barella he’s just been ice cold
on the putting green
oh that’s so bad oh Ben doesn’t like it
did not Flex it enough and that’s going
to have to pop
out that could be rough that rough is
awful that’s kind of a theme out here at
this
course heberg to save
par another low Miss from
Calvin
well Zach just want to check in with you
Calvin is I I know you’re not following
his card right now but he’s been a
little bit struggling around the green
uh and he’s been so strong this season
in circle one any any theories as to
what’s going
on um you know I think like like I heard
you mention low when he does Miss see
seems to be the common Miss but he he he
hadn’t really he had a little bit of
putting Wes I feel like to finish the
season last year and he we hadn’t really
seen that this season and I don’t know
if it just was time that it was going to
happen everybody kind of has like an off
week or so but it’s unfortunate but it
does seem to happen
occasionally well and Zach I want to
throw it back to you uh it’s not just
Calvin heimberg you know we we’ve been
seeing across the board we’ve seen some
some putting woses from multiple players
is the wind kind of tricky out there
what are the conditions like at this
point in the
round I think as of now it seems like
the wind has calmed down a decent amount
but it does seem that when there is some
when it picks up slightly that they are
playing back into it so if they are
leaving themselves short of the basket
then they are definitely putting into
headwinds um but yeah I think this
finishing stretch it seemed like at
least earlier that the wind was always
in the player’s
face well we got to jump back here to
Simon’s Heiser this is
massive and uh stuck it right next to
the baset Charlie this is another
opportunity for a birdie look at this
shot down slope as well this is not an
easy green to stick I mean this has got
to be the best like scramble birdie
round that we’ve seen in a long time
from somebody I mean previous shot not
great he has a much tougher approach
shot and then he puts it right by the
basket it’s a lot of power baked into
this feature
card wow oh look at this trickle into
the basket oh oh
my great shot from
Heimer Barella sitting in
48th he has not been outside the top
four after the first round of any
tournament this season and of course
he’s finished top four at every
event including three wins but so far
not his tournament
take a look quickly here at the disc
golf pro tour standings coming into the
weekend Calvin has jumped up a
bunch in recent
weeks but that top four has been pretty
consistent so far I mean to start the
season the way he did with the injury
and not getting to throw forehand the
fact that he’s in fifth place right now
and look at the world rankings Charlie
he’s still he’s still the guy and the
fact that he’s still here with what he’s
been dealing with is is indicator of of
how good he truly is yeah and it’s worth
noting you know if he had a forehand
he’d be four or five Strokes better out
here right now I mean this course
specifically and he would have easier
putts everything would be smooth he’s
not even going for the basket on hole
number seven right he’s he’s bailing out
a Hiser left and hoping for a circle two
putt uh definitely got to give him
respect I mean the putter is not hot and
again dealing with elbow injuries and
especially being kind of a push putter
you never know if that is aggravated at
any point and it could just be exactly
like Zach said it just sometimes isn’t
your day out
there when you’re a touring Pro did you
have that happened to you where one week
you were on fire and next week just
didn’t seem to have it I used to call it
Shack hands
Charlie you wake up and you’re going oh
boy you’re
back it it just it’s Sports it is it is
it’s just Sports it happens across the
board and the ones who don’t have those
things happen are the ones we Marvel at
we get a week out
little outside of the circle for
Callaway so pretty big t- shot from
Bella how aggressive will he be with his
second here on the 17th I mean you’re
going to have to just Sky one over the
top of everything this is a distance
driver oh
boy oh my
God no way come
on oh my goodness that doesn’t make any
he doesn’t even know what happened wow
that doesn’t make any
sense what an incredible shot in a
lackluster round from Ab he still finds
a way to make magic this Fairway zigzags
you go past these signs you zigzag right
you zigzag back to the left then you go
back
right that is
ridiculous that will be an eagle putt
for
Bella wow stot
Ben got to take a deep breath here he’s
still shooting a decent
round Dickerson at six under looking for
the turkey here on
15 might go to that little tiny stepper
he’s got a few different Circle two
methods he’s shown
me he’s got a little hop putt he’s got a
little stepper
very high really aggressive
too I was hoping to at least clip some
metal now he’s going to be about 25 ft
remains at six
under keep iter to get to sixth down
share of 12th Place with the make
left side
sticks and we are going to take a quick
break here on the disc golf network but

Anthony
Barella is putting for
eagle from 45 ft
after just a ridiculous shot to the
green this could give him life in this
tournament would have been the only
Eagle on the hole Charlie and there’s
good reason for
that that was an absolutely ridiculous
second shot he’s kicking himself for
that
one oh he just got a feel frustrating
he’s kind of had his putting abandoned
him he’s two for eight Circle two he’s 9
for 14 from
c1x and that’s he’s just been so solid
to start the season if he was on his
season averages he would be five or six
Strokes better right
now don’t
Heimer is dancing back and forth between
a grenade and a huge
forehand selfishly I want to see the
grenade but I I think we’re going to see
the better
shot there’s really not much of it over
the top line here unless your last name
is
Wolf decent
the gaps are at 180 and
300 got to pick your poison the longer
gap gives you an easier second shorter
Gap gives you a tougher angle on the
second and that’s a little farther away
that’s a little bit too far then might
have a flex forehand from
there well it’s coup of left to right
shots here on hole 16 Zack as we fly the
hole take us through if this is a great
Lefty hole or just how it
[Music]
plays yeah so this hole has pretty much
been the same since we’ve been coming
here and playing here at mil Ridge and I
I truly think it’s probably the most
simple Lefty hole in the course I’m sure
most of the lefties if you looked at the
stats got it or or at least looking at
it if even if they miss their putt it’s
pretty much a stock 300t little Hiser
get it by the bridge you really don’t
have to do anything special and then I
think what really helps is instead of
having to like as a ry’s perspective
having to like hang a forehand flat and
push it into the wind and then fade back
around the OB if you put your drive in
the right spot the second shot is the
exact same another stock Hiser just you
don’t have to do anything special and it
if you can break it down and get the
drive in a good spot it’s it’s pretty
routine
challenges the depth perception quite a
bit and I think that’s pretty much the
Big Challenge off the te is just not
being able to see the gaps but just
trusting the FI for the
distances Simon’s just going to say
nope I do not care I’m winning the
tournament right
now it’s a foolish hole to take a bogey
on
and this is a spot we’ve seen multiple
players in and it hasn’t gone
well Dickerson looking like he might be
trying to hit the window hard
super specific angle
here
wow what a shot from Chris
Dickerson you got to hit it on Annie you
can’t let it dig into the ground ground
you got to force it to pan out at the
end to get the distance right look at
this it’s one of the prettiest
things in all of disc golf what a shot
beautiful I feel like he’s amazing at
those kinds of shots I think he’s one of
the best I think he’s one of the best in
the game right now at this shot one more
look from the flight Factory
drone hanging it out way wide as it
starts to flatten out I mean that’s
tracking 80 beat back to the right
that’s a tough shot to pull
off ffactory disks.com use code MCO save
10% Callaway also taking his
medicine oh smart play still gave
himself a putt that’s fantastic
and finally a stock position here
almost a massive blunder for Heimer but
he’s luckily in in circle one
and cting for
birdie to the 18th into the headwind
Anthony
Bella it’s got to keep coming
Ah that’s a look it’s definitely an
opportunity for a
birdie for ab not too many birdies on
this finishing
hole just want to note that Bella and
heimberg are both had three under par
after whole
17 both got the
birdie and they’ll both have a long look
on a team
to get to four
under only one player has gotten into
Circle one in regulation on 18 all the
birdies have come from
C2 Simon with another long birdie look
SC me
wrong oh
boy he is just really feeling it from
distance right now
that was barely
High just a little bit
sad Callaway to get to six down
that is a really smart play for Ben
Callaway throwing the Heiser away from
the basket just give yourself some sort
of
putt it’s a really nice calm decision
there to get a
birdie the make here would get Jake
Heimer inside the top 10
again that’s his fourth make it his
fifth Circle one miss today
shows you how well he’s
playing Tia green that he’s six under
yeah he I believe last year he was
leading in the Precision Power index
that uh udisk was calculating just one
of the best longdistance accurate
throwers in the no Division and I think
he’s continuing that this
year Dickerson in for birdie that gets
him into a tie for
eighth alongside Chris Clemens Ganon
Burr Cole ralin and Evan
Scott Simon Taps it in for
par he remains your solo leader at 11
under
I let’s go to
18 Anthony Bella for a long distance
birdie unclear if he was even trying to
run that one looked like a
layup
heimberg off the cage
anthonyy BR has been the hottest player
in 2024 but just didn’t have it today
Brian of course is tough and uh when you
look at all the miss putts it just shows
you that’s pretty much the the the day
for
him and it’s been tough for Vinnie as
well Calvin
heimberg also not having the best round
out there also missing a lot of putts
from Circle
one coming into pretty lackluster 60 and
177% of the putting green it happens and
you know what I’ve been on cards with
Calvin after shooting around like this
and he does the exact opposite the next
day and shoots back up the leaderboard
two more rounds of
golf Dickerson on
17 very specific Landing Zone you’re
hoping to land
in that should be
okay it’s aart five as we saw recently
it’s possible to get up there for an
eagle but I don’t think many players are
thinking about
that yeah great great illustration of
what the landing Zone looks like great
shot there from Ben you’re going to bend
back a little bit to the right after you
pass through the
Gap it’s got to keep pushing left
didn’t like
it eimer
didn’t like a turning but it turned just
enough to get right inside the mouth I
think this should be pretty decent angle
for
him we’re going to take a quick break as
the players walk down 17 we’ll be back

effort live coverage of the Music City
open continues here on the disc golf
Network round one is coming to a close
we’ve had quite the treat here from our
feature card Brian I mean some really
amazing shot making I think it’s
showcasing how much power is necessary
out here to score consistently I mean
look at the speed from the guys on this
feature card it’s just been ridiculous
and you know you got Calvin and ab on
the Chase card and they do have the
power and they couldn’t bring it on the
putting green so I think this course is
challenging players in a lot of
different ways I think it’s been a good
display Z I want to ask you I mean one
of the ways that this course is
challenging is that it’s over 11,000 ft
long plus the walking you have to do
between holes is there a sense of
fatigue at this point in the round from
the
players yeah I think even if they don’t
want to admit it I think it’s definitely
there um like they’re throwing 11,000 ft
I bet walking you know probably adds it
close to like like 12 or 13 I mean it’s
it’s a long walk it’s a long property
that’s very physically challenging and
then here at the end you have to start
throwing I feel like probably the most
physically demanding shot so I would say
everyone’s feeling it at this
point yeah and you know I I’ve played
this property and Zach’s played here and
it it’s definitely a tough three round
tournament to play and Par 67 11, 59
ft nice conservative shot there for
Chris putting himself in a good position
I it’s just inevitable your conditioning
matters so much on a course like this
you have to have fresh
legs otherwise the timing kind of gets
thrown off your legs aren’t firing the
way that you want them to fire and
especially over the course of three
rounds it’s tough
sometimes Ben is in a spot where he’s
tempted he could very easily go Flex
Shot and Advance the Fairway like crazy
but there’s OB everywhere now
is that going to
turn
no that is not a good place to be
you can’t believe
it Zach I want you to talk about the
angles here try to paint the picture for
the people viewing back home it’s a
really uniquely shaped
hole Yeah it it honestly reminds me a
little bit of the the shorter part three
they played a couple holes back where
the disc has to be on angle it right out
of the hand and if you overcommit
there’s OB right and if you don’t commit
like Ben did you can find the trouble on
the left as well so it’s it’s kind of a
tricky tricky
shot Simon getting one to pan all the
way out let’s see if it lands nicely and
yeah it’s right where he wants to
be this course does make the players
have to throw these weird kind of
panning shots with the overstable disc
it’s kind of unique I uh I don’t know if
it’s intended or if it was designed to
make the players throw that shot but
it’s not easy to
execute he’s far enough left he can go
straight down the tunnel if he has the
confidence to do so
oh
boy and I think Jake might be right
there is an OB line up there couldn’t
quite get the angle from the Drone they
didn’t give me a
sign felt really good a lot of yeah I
know
huge shot from Jake
though try to get a different
angle I mean this is a guy that’s
throwing 75 miles an hour he throws some
massive shots
and ah he might be
okay we’ll get a look when we get closer
safe he’s definitely far from the basket
yeah everybody can clap now let’s take a
look at Brian’s breakdown for closing
presented by Block in discs well we just
talked about whole 16 depth perception
and then it makes you speed up to the
driver here on 17 you have to give every
single shot respect there’s OB
everywhere look at the shape here on 17
just a really unique par five and then
18 you got a 520t par three with wind
blowing you’re on a platform that’s
built up you have to trust the wind to
get that Hiser to swing back if you’re
going for the birdie
third shot for
lazat just like that inside the surf
one yeah so these trees in the middle
are safe and intentionally designed that
way Ben has to scramble like crazy now
he’s going to probably have to pitch out
to the
middle just a really tough spot to be
that’s fine but he’s still got work
left no choice but to take the medicine
there
right now everybody on the feature card
within the top
15 all playing solid so far two holes
left Heimer up ahead 60t
and right now they’re giving it to
him ooh this is pretty nice
shot just a nice rightward drift
throughout most of the flight and checks
up at the edge of the circle
Dickerson has not thrown too many
forehands today
nice
one so he’s going to have a putt to get
into a tie for fourth at 8 under
par he too is playing through some
putting ups and downs he’s missed three
Circle one putts and is 0 for two from
Circle
two had to throw too hard no uh I
here Chris breaking it down for Zach
right now
I think he wants to interview
me certainly seems like it’s
Zach here’s the eagle putt from
Heimer from just inside 70
feet Bella missed his can Heimer become
the first of Birdie 7 this
weekend little tick off the
band this is just giving us a glimpse of
what’s possible I’m sure these clips are
going to start to get out there in the
disc golf world other players are going
to see that it’s possible I I’m looking
forward to seeing an eagle on this hole
I think it can be done I think it’s
going to be done on this side of the
basket obviously
take NOS he’s close
Callaway puts another Putt in he’s been
fantastic today on the
green little little bit of extra Basket
English
now Simon for birdie to get to 12
down this was the best round last year
and it’s the current course
record got
[Applause]
it his lead is now two strokes over
seod Dickerson to get into a tie for
fourth he’s got it
I think I’d take a Chris Dickerson
interview of uh Zack Melton I think I
think that’d be some good
television set it up going down the
Fairway on 18 walk and talk with Zack
Melton we’ll see how the drive
goes let’s take a look at this putt one
more time from Simon as he gets to 12
under
par committed Your Leader Simon
lazat one more

too the te of 18 awaits our feature card
Simon lazat leading the way but man
great performances from everyone on this
card Chris Dickerson in fourth at eight
under Jake Heimer in ninth at seven
under Ben Callaway in 14th at six under
course is scoring pretty well scoring
scoring pretty well right now 18th tough
hole well Charlie we’ve been talking
about it all day 520 ft we’ve seen a lot
of shots come in here as you can see the
OB is all around this hole and the wind
is ripping pretty tough up here not much
to block the wind if you’re going for
the power Heiser you have this tree line
that’s going to block anything from
coming in the basket’s pretty far down
there I think if you’re trying to get
the safe birdie you have to throw a
little bit more of a highle shot and go
straight at the basket challenging these
skinny trees here uh tough hole but we
we’ve definitely seen a decent amount of
birdies
here 12 birdies on the day on 18 that is
the fewest that any hole has given up
today is it like a sickness or is it
what is it I have a belly achee I have a
cold I have a back pain I’m just out a
Migra that’s about how I feel okay of
course then you start playing y cuz
you’re only thinking about one thing
getting off the
course he’s certainly playing a lot less
disc golf than the rest of the field
right now Charlie I think he’s doing
exactly what he needs to to do to get
off this course
quick what about you Charlie how you
feeling about how this course is playing
for the
no it’s challenging but fair I agree
feel like if you make your shots every
pretty much every is
bable you might there some Hol is only
attackable for the big arms
but it’s having called the fpo around
this morning it’s definitely playing a
little bit more fair than it does for
Foo but look at you know I I look at
yakob samod he’s not throwing 550 600
foot bombs point you know I I look at a
player like Paul MC Beth he’s still
getting the speed back in his back
hand I think there’s opportunities to
score
even if you’re not one of the big
distance throwers obviously
helps especially on a hole like
this gets back in safe
hung it out a little bit wider right
than maybe he would like
s getting a little bit of a favorable
role but in that same spot where we’ve
seen a lot of players end up I’d love to
see another 70-footer I don’t know if
you know you’re feeling the same way
Charlie but I’d love to see it
Heimer he’s got the power to get
there oh great shot that I mean that’s
one of the best shots that we’ve seen so
far he actually got to the tree line now
he’s got a look heimer’s been putting
together a round and he’s fought through
quite a
bit yeah not quite in circle one but
definitely a real opportunity when
you’re missing that many putts inside
Circle one though your confidence for
other things starts to go so it’s just
it’s commendable that he’s been able to
score despite something that could
really shatter your
focus Callaway look at
this what a
shot I think that’s inside the
circle and we only have two players have
been recorded inside the circle so far
today as we’re going to send it down now
to Chris Dickerson who’s going to
interview Zach Melton Chris take it
away ready we’re
live Chris Dickerson here in the field
I’m here with Zach Melton just want to
ask you a couple questions how was your
round today uh bogey free actually
played probably the best I’ve ever
played at mil Ridge it was great that’s
really good uh not to get any bogey out
here
um you know I’m I’m sure you enjoyed
that yeah I’ve had a blast a little
tired you know it’s not a course for old
people but it’s okay you know I’m
hanging tough that’s great you know uh
after 18 holes it’s been a long day out
here I hope you have a great evening
thank you thank you Chris good luck to
yourself thank you all right back to you
guys amazing stuff thank you Chris thank
you Zach brilliant journalism really
riveting the hard-hitting stuff we were
were here for got to give the people
what they
want I would have liked to hear some
more thoughts on red personally but
we’ll save that for the Post round
interview well you know what I I do want
to in all seriousness I want to throw it
down to Zach one more time Zach you’ve
been a treat today just give us your
final thoughts how do you feel like this
course is playing for the no Division
and what should we look forward
to yeah so I I I you mentioned it
earlier you said we’re getting a treat
because everyone on the feature card is
is shredding and I feel like we watched
probably one of the best cards of disc
golf today if not the best obviously
Simon making it look easy even when it’s
not um I want to I want to shout out Ben
Callaway’s putter today cuz I think
Brian mentioned early on it just looked
so smooth so committed and firm and just
he knew exactly where he wanted to go
with it uh Chris you know’s had a couple
things not go his way but he’s grinding
it out I mean and Jake you know Jake’s
had some putting woves but he’s still
playing good disl so it’s been a a treat
to watch these guys play some good Disc
Off on not that easy of a
course yeah I have to agree fully agree
and what I think is is just awesome is
every weekend now we look at the
leaderboard we we have a laundry list of
guys that are still within the hunt of
Simon lazat going into tomorrow let’s
take a look at this shot one more time
from Chris Dickerson he wanted to end
this on a bang some sports journalism
and then a
little birdie throw
in that’s right online just foot
high this might be too much to ask for
even from Simon maybe a little
foolish all
right respect that great round from
Simon
lazat all right now a couple of real
birdie opportunities here
[Music]
eimer get to eight
down got it what a finish for Jake
Heimer man this kid just oozes passion
for the sport of disc golf I’ve seen him
in Charlotte in the winter time just
practicing every single
day I just love seeing his successes he
just lives and and just breathes this
game good for him that’s got to feel
good
too few missed putts and how about this
Callaway inside the circle just the
second player to be inside of circle one
on a card with some just enormous
arms here it is 30t to get to Seven down
you
bet perfect day inside the circle for
Ben Callaway 15 for 15 c1x putting that
is definitely something to be proud of
out here and I think this is something
to build off of I think he knows the
mistakes that he made I think he made a
couple of just really Elementary
mistakes just tiny angle misses on
certain
shots I think he’s right in this
and it seems appropriate that everyone’s
going to hit their putts to close out
this round what a great performance from
this feature card Simon lazat the star
though with a 12 under bogey free
performance playing through what did he
say back pain migraine cold he a tummy
ache tummy
ache laundry list that’s what he said
said the the worse you feel the better
you play
fantastic that was some serious
foreshadowing in the press conference
earlier this
week to round
one really just a fun round of disc golf
to start this
tournament take a look at the top
10 Simon of course at the top yakub
samod sitting in second at 10 down
look at these names up at the top McBeth
wasaki Dickerson Lazard I feel like
we’ve gone back in time I’m totally okay
with it I am all here for it give me
some Paul Omen there’s just there’s so
much to look forward to tomorrow Charlie
and again I think players are still
figuring this course out as well I I
don’t think we figured out how to get
the eagle on hole number 17 I think
we’re going to see players do it I think
this is still a very new layout here at
Bill Ridge and I think the opening day
was quite the success here for the no
division oh yeah and we welcome you back
inside the broadcast Booth you know I I
guess what do you feel like separated
Simon’s performance today from other
players who were having good rounds and
a lot of guys shot pretty good in that
sort of seven to 10 range it just seemed
like he had an answer for everything it
also seemed like when he went over the
top it was dialed in he had those power
heisers dialed in so he didn’t have to
go with the flick all the time saving
the shoulder on that and then come on
the spin putt was just absolutely deadly
I mean it doesn’t matter where he threw
the disc he was able to put it in I mean
how how many Circle two putts did he
have to make he made a 68f footer he
made a 70f footer he was he was knocking
him down from everywhere I I was most
impressed by his ability from out of
position in the Fairway to recover for
birdies I mean he must have done that
three or four times in that round with
just hero shots uh very impressive stuff
from Simon but well tomorrow is going to
be a great day at DIS golf uh our leite
card Simon lazat yakob Samurai Paul
McBeth Paul Omen and on the chase we’ve
got Ricky Waki Jak keimer Chris
Dickerson and Luke humph with Casey
white at that 8 under Mark as well on
the third card so it’s going to be a
blast we’re going to take a quick break
stay with us on the other side we’re
going to hear from Simon in just a
moment
pound’s the best of the best it’s the
quality the craftsmanship the vision for
what a bag could be let’s start from the
beginning I didn’t choose pound I chose
Levi I trusted Levi to make the best bag
possible he’s always trying to innovate
he wants it to be perfect and I think
he’s the kind of guy that nothing’s ever
perfect I trust the product I trust the
people behind the product at this point
I don’t think anyone’s disputing that
it’s the best made bag
cheers to morning walks and upshots at
Sunset it’s a good rounds and bad to
high fives and nice shots to the TDS and
AMS to make this game what it is to
beating your rating or your first Ace
cheers to the game we love but most
importantly to having fun cheers to disc

there I’m the best I’m the best I’m the
best I’m the best
my highlights from a fantastic round
from Simon lazat 12 under bogey
free and as you said Brian he just
seemed to have answers for everything I
don’t think the tummy ache was holding
him back from throwing some massive
shots I
mean this this Birdie on 11 is just
ridiculous I we saw all of the players
in that card get it but his shot was so
high up there and then these days just
happen with the Putter and like he said
in the press conference earlier in the
week when you’ve been doing this your
whole life your only job is to just get
out of your own way and let all that
experience come through and shine and
today because of all the little ailments
and things he has going on clearly he
was able to do that pretty easily cuz he
looked
phenomenal then on 17
cashed it in little wow action as he
makes it from 32
feet sometimes it’s just one of those
days you wow yourself with what you’re
able to do and and man just a phenomenal
day out there for
him so he will have a two shot cushion
over yakub
samod and he Simon of course is in the
clubhouse right now with AJ rizzly let’s
hear from him now
all right I’m joined in the booth by
Simon lazat after the first round of the
Music City open wow Simon could you just
describe that day for
us uh woke up this morning still sick
fighting off a cold
congested um had a belly ache for now 3
4 days my back still hurts then at like
11: a migraine started and I was like
Wow every everything just feels so bad
and then I got myself to the course did
a little warm up with Seth and I
mean you could just see it on whole one
already a dead center 60 foter just
start the round and then kind of just
cruising I think on whole four I made
another putt where I was just like
almost confused like why is this
happening now
um but yeah wow what a day bogey free
out here is pretty insane I don’t think
I really could play this course much
better especially I didn’t practice the
back n at all I played completely blind
on the back today because I was just
feeling so bad all week and my
back with like slight back pain you need
like the tournament adrenaline to just
get over it and throw your shots in
practice it’s just so hard to get
yourself to throw these shots with
pain so I guess I worked out in my favor
today it was quite the ride yeah that
sure sounds like it I mean when when
everything’s going when everything else
besides the golf is going wrong for you
how do you how do you come out on the
course and see things in a positive
light yeah I mean last week just kind of
taking the momentum I was throwing the
disc so well last week I had such a good
chance to win that tournament I just
kind of got a bit of a bad breaks here
and there when I didn’t need them missed
a couple putts here and there when I
didn’t need
to but yeah I feel like I’m throwing the
disc so well and I’m kind of having
these really low expectations because of
the way I’m feeling and that’s always
for me been the key if I put myself like
too high of expectation I just kind of
start crumbling under the pressure today
no pressure no expectations and then
this happens we lost light sorry yeah we
lost light Simon thanks for joining us
really appreciate it best of luck oh did
it completely die
everything that was it Simon goodbye
thanks for joining us uh a great round
for Simon laat Charlie I got that was
almost fitting it was almost comical but
but he said something that reminds me of
something that Kristen Tatar always says
and she says I’m just here to witness
what’s about to unfold I’ve put the work
in I’ve trained my body I know the shots
I’m going to show up to each round and
just witness what happens and it seems
like Simon just lives his life that way
like for him to be like I’m a little
confused my putts are going in the baset
and you’re one of the best throwers of a
flying disc on the planet and he still
sees the game that way as if he’s
watching television of himself and that
mindset is deadly I I actually played
catch with him in Austin and we were
throwing back and forth and he kind of
said I was talking to him about optimism
because he seems like he’s just the
eternal optimist he just always puts
himself out there he’s always doing
something spectacular and he kind of
throws his hands up like and he said he
feels like it’s maybe just a little bit
of naivity he just kind of moves through
his dis golf career trying to have as
much fun as possible and things like
this happen and some golfers thrive on
something like that and some don’t but
he’s clearly in his element and today
was just phenomenal well Michael Jordan
had his flu game Simon had his
everything is wrong round uh so Simon
will have the lead heading into
tomorrow’s moving day and uh chance now
for us to take a look at the OTB shot of
the day Anthony Bella shot on 17 I mean
that was the craziest shot but could be
one of Simon’s recovery shots let’s take
a
look oh it’s the putt H yeah it’s a good
put it’s a good you’re
right I don’t know how I made
it what a
[Music]
shot after after a 63f footer on one he
hits the 70 footer on on whole
four and uh made an outof Body

  1. We're in the first part of the season, one with a lot of long courses early, wait till we get to the shorter technical courses, the people winning will be quite varied.

  2. We've had stacked lead cards for years…. the first round hasn't been "random" in forever, so why not spice it even some more with interesting variations. I'm all for it. yes there are weather related issues you could talk about, but what the fan's want to see is important too.

  3. Great first start. Way to go Lizotte, keeping it simple. Love the super-overhead drone follows. Gives us a better idea of how far they're throwing the discs. Good luck to all next round.

  4. Zach Melton On the Course needs to happen more, please. love the insight but comedic input. Nothing against any other on course commentator. Love you all the same.!!!

  5. My god simon is the worst person ti listen to. That technical failure was intentional and Brian immediately turned it to Tattar’s humility. I love watching Simon throw it but he is the biggest piece of crap on tour.

  6. Zach, sorry to say, but your playing days are over, because we need you to be on the ground for every tournament, now. So good.

  7. Why is it so fun to watch Simon play good?? Can't explain it, but the way he makes it look so easy and fun is just the best to witness. I could watch Chris Dickerson or anyone else shoot a 12 under like that and it's not as cool for some reason. Looking forward to round 2! Thanks for coverage!

  8. Great round of golf. If anyone actually reads these comments, one suggestion: The tee cams often lose the disc in the sky, especially when its bright. Switch to the catch cam quicker.
