LIV Golf’s ‘strategy’ with Anthony Kim remains unclear after his debut | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

well it’s been one of the big stories of
the week as earlier this week one of the
game’s Biggest Mysteries Anthony Kim
made news by signing with Liv golf for
the remainder of the 2024 season now Kim
a three-time winner on the PGA tour as
we know went completely off the grid and
gave up competitive golf back in 2012
but today AK made his big return so
let’s take a look at how he did his
first ever round on live golf the first
time we’ve seen him compete in 12 years
Ral and you got to know those nerves
were certainly there as he said the
Fairway looked very narrow his opening
t-shirt on 18 yeah that sounds a little
weird doesn’t it opening T shot on the
18 pretty good one though went down
after the te quickly so a good start for
Anthony there par five would be really
nice to start with a birdie for Anthony
Kim but nope this one is headed
considerably to the right doesn’t like
it at all and he sort of chops it around
the rest of the the hole there and ends
up making bogey search his Live Career
with a bogey yeah but it that’s it’s
been 12 years we we’ll give we’ll give
the man a bit of a break on his opening
hole while he made four straight PS
after that until he got to the fifth and
it was quite the shank R yeah that was a
really goodl looking shank actually
terms of Shanks ends up making another
bogy Falls to plus two at that stage but
he would rebound right here at the sixth
there second shot after a good drive
that’s much better looking second at the
fifth nice trajectory on that one just
right of the
hole and a chance for a little
Redemption here with a
birdie which he gets so a little hope
there maybe for Anthony but in fact he
would buy the next three yeah but still
there was one birdie there in his uh big
return to the game closing up on the par
for
17th cting for birdie didn’t quite yet
that but we’ll tap into to finish this
date with a pass so Anthony Kim shoots a
six over in his return to golf as we
take a look at the leaderboard uh that
placed him opening round 76 at the
bottom of the leaderboard a 54 man field
36 holes left to play you got Adrien
and John Ram at the top but this
has been one of the big news items of
the week Ralph I mean what’s your
assessment just seeing him out there
today and seeing him competing for the
first time really there’s been very few
athletes in the history of sport that
have done what Anthony Kim is trying to
do and that is be away from the game for
over a decade uh and then come back and
perform in a high level it’s just so
very very hard he was talking about the
fact that he doesn’t even know a lot of
the guys that he’s playing with now the
younger players um you talked about
Anthony Kim being a mystery it’s a
little bit of a mystery to me as to what
Liv golf is trying to establish here now
it’s obvious that I’m not the biggest
live golf fan in history uh but they
have been on a quest to try and gain
legitimacy as a tour they’re trying
desperately to get world ranking points
Bryson to Shambo and a lot of other
players are running around saying we
have done everything that the World Golf
Ranking committee has asked we have done
everything but in fact what they’re
doing here with Anthony Kim is the exact
opposite of that he’s being added to
these fields um he’s going to play all
year long uh in 13 events uh he is not
part of the team competition which has
deemed to be so important to the live
golf tour so it’s a little bit of an
aberration to me and I’m not sure what
the strategy is he did no pre-tournament
press conference I would have thought
they’d really hype that up but maybe
they were afraid that something would
happen like it did which was around of
76 to start with uh it’s going to be
very interesting to see whether or not
he can come back tomorrow uh and play a
good round to back up that 76 yeah it’s
really interesting to see him back in
the Limelight he still has has got that
element of mystery and we’ll have to
wait and see how his form perhaps
improves as he continues on live as you
said he’s not part of a team he’s
playing in the individual portion of the
series I know you’ve known him for a
long long time you had a good
relationship with him at in Hawaii he
was a slightly polarizing figure when he
was at his prime but what does the
future hold for him do you think it was
a bit of a risk with live bringing him
on board I I think it was I’m not really
sure I have not been able to talk to him
about why he made this decision to do it
um what I didn’t see and we’re only
looking at highlights now coming from
Liv golf but um I didn’t see the um
aggression and attitude of the Anthony
Kim that I saw 12 years ago I will never
ever forget the Opening match uh on
Sunday at Valhalla in the Ryder Cup with
Sergio Garcia and Anthony Kim um who
they had a little sort of tet toet on
the first um green after both hitting
really good shots in there and Sergio
wanted to pick up the putts and and
Anthony Kim said no and uh turned out
Anthony Kim smoked him five and four and
of course ran around the golf course
carrying the American flag and it wasn’t
so much the way Anthony Kim or that the
fact that Anthony Kim Won early on in
his career because other players have
come on and had better starts col War
how has really and Jordan spe just to
name a couple of players but it was the
way that Anthony kid Kim did it and um
he was very aggressive and just had
total attitude out there and I didn’t
see that much today yeah and for anyone
who isn’t familiar I mean we’ve
hopefully got some new golf fans on
board in the last 12 years and for
anyone who didn’t see him compete at his
top of his game you sort of alluded to
his character there but what have we
missed over the last 12 years what has
this game sort of missed by not having
Anthony Kim in it because he had so much
to offer well I I think we’ve missed
characters um and that’s the interesting
Dynamic of live golf in a lot of ways um
to the detriment of the PGA Tour they’ve
taken a lot of the characters uh golf
needs to have rooting interests and when
you have villains or or players like
that in that mold and live golf has
gotten most of the villains away from
the PGA Tour it seems like um you’re
missing something I believe and uh
anytime you can have an Anthony Kim type
player with that much uh talent and that
kind of attitude I think it’s good for
the game so I hope he is successful in
this and just like Anthony Kim I’d like
to see all these players back together
playing together here who knows maybe in
a couple years yeah I think that is very
much the general consensus across the
board in the world of men’s professional
golf um he’s playing overnight on the
live golf series if you didn’t get up at
3:15 a.m. to watch him tea off you are
forgiven

  1. For all the bleeding hearts regarding Kim & that LIV is "giving him a chance". He signed for from 5 to 7 mil so he's not some poor guy they feel sorry for to see what he can do. LIV is sleeze so it doesn't surprise me they would sign him for the controversy factor in a sort of perverse way hoping people will tune in.

  2. This is the first time I've watched LIV. It feels like the nba all star game or the pro bowl but I admit getting AK out there is compelling. I want to see him do well! The guy has the record for most birdies at the masters, that win over Garcia at the Ryder cup…. and he still has game. Love to know what's he's been doing the last 12 years.

  3. Go back to Hawaii Rolfing, you're irrelevant. As irrelevant as the PGA " cheerleaders " posting on here who can't break par at a putt putt but pretend to know the ins and outs of both tours.

  4. No LIV players can have as much chaos as AK! Forget about the scores. This is not AK of the past, clean and strong. Now he is a perfect model for LIV, the outfit, the hair, the tattoo.

  5. Despite it being blood money, AK did the right thing to take the money and join LIV. Family comes first!

  6. You won’t see LIV covering anything PGA tour.😂😂 Mark you’re an absolute joke. Don’t be like Chamblee.

  7. The strategy is giving the man a chance to do something no one else has. And if he succeeds, Liv golf will be getting much of the spotlight for giving him the opportunity. They have nothing to lose. They’re already getting a lot of attention now because of his return. Mission accomplished.

  8. These guys worship Tiger when he quits after 2 rounds but hate this guy because he hit a couple bad shots, they only hate this because it's LIV golf.

  9. AK gave the PGA three of the most exciting and entertaining years in its long history. Put some respect on this man’s name.

AK was also unequivocally the best player on the course not named Tiger during that time. Just ask the players.
