pretty good that is uh a little left of

amateur golfers there’s Hospitality on
the right there’s cameras there’s a
million dollars I think everyone’s
getting a little pulley but hey the
people here look look at all the patrons
look at can you look at the guys look at
them patrons huh they’re patrons they’re
having a great time they’re all
lubricated having some alcohol and let
me tell you they are horny for a hole in
one well that is not how I would have
said that but thank you so much for
painting the picture it’s true it’s true
baby we all want to see it I tell you
what we’ve got the best fans in America
right here in the Valley of the Sun Todd
Dobson you’ve seen this place grow
you’ve seen where it was how it’s
starting let’s talk a little bit about
where this place came from you know it’s
been a municipal golf course since 1960
when Milton
Milton Coggins built the front
nine and we’ll talk more about that but
right now let’s talk about the grass
clippings open this is the inaugural
event of the league we got $100,000 in
the prize pool a 36hole
tournament with 75 teams of tuum they
are playing a stroke play Twan scramble
so you guys know what a scramble is you
hit the ball other player hits the ball
and then you go ahead and see who’s is
the best and you hold out from there but
here’s the deal whole 18 million dollar
for for an ace up for grabs why not why
not why not I mean the the effort to get
this place into the shape it is was just
a a labor of love from everybody
involved yeah and I’d say if you spent
time around this property and interacted
with the employees you’d feel it and we
when we took over this golf course a few
months prior we asked Scott Hebert to be
our grounds crew chief director of
agronomy came over from TPC Scott doing
the Phoenix Open and he left there to
come do this and you can see it the
product is unbelievable he’s done an
incredible job me just the people out
here Aaron called them patrons we’ve got
a beautiful evening here in tempy 93°
the current temperature and you talk
about the director of agronomy and
Scotty Herbert we when he came here when
he came here he gave up some big dicks
to to come out and and and invest his
time and love into rebuilding this
facility I mean look at the Contour of
this green you can see I mean look at
you got Andrew medley over here and this
bunker on the top right he is I mean
then look at jayen Choy look at that
that bunker was not there that Jaylen
Choy that guy’s a player by the way Dan
Mahoney right in front of us look at
having a high no why not it’s it’s not
noon but it’s not noon I mean what is he
62 now he’s having a high noon on a
Saturday afternoon under the lights come
on it doesn’t get better than that he’s
having a high noon at 6:00 yeah and but
Scott keber I mean when we asked him I
said are we crazy are we crazy do you
really want to come to this Municipal
Golf Course and he said I’ll I’ll I’ll
do it tomorrow um and he and he and he
stood to that hey these are some good
players by the way this kid Jaylen Choy
came up to me after the qualifying round
I was like how’d you play a seven under
didn’t didn’t hit it very well easy well
I tell you what you talk about scottty
spent four years at TPC Scottdale and
and spent some time doing a fellowship
at Quail Hollow he was at sah he was an
internate Congressional I mean this guy
coming out of Baltimore Maryland this
guy was all world all class 35 years old
he was a pro skateboarder get this in
high school I mean the guy can do it all
you talk about the pro skateboarding and
this is going to be like going down a
half pipe right here from the back of
the green come on
uml this kid is just as good as jayen
and I wouldn’t be surprised if he holds
this they’re going to get the crowd
going surprised if he holds it good
read jayen right there and you know it’s
it’s one of those things where you play
the practice round in a par three golf
tournament or golf course you see some
birdies start to fly but it’s hard to
copy and paste that into the event very
hard especially for Amber the golfers
you know you typically don’t have four
people watching you let alone a thousand
people watching with lanco getting ready
to play all right and don’t forget we
are in the scramble format so now his
playing partner will try to to see if he
learned something
did not learn anything at all and and
here’s the thing everyone says it breaks
towards the city you know what’s funny
that’s Phoenix that way it breaks
towards the right city which is Tempe
well I’ll tell you what we’ll get a good
quick look at our current leaderboard
two tied at the top run CIS Braun
Christa Foy we’ve got all kinds of
action and the great thing about this
golf course and in this format as Johnny
Manzel one shot back with Cody Masa this
format will lend to big swings in the
leaderboard big swings there’s guys that
are seven under right now that have a
chance to win this and that’s what’s so
great about par three scramble golf is
there’s going to be a lot of birdies
guys can get hot tell you what Abe
Candelaria the third out there pair with
Mr Channon tell you what they’re also a
group to watch very good player here in
the amateur scene here in Phoenix I try
to remain unbiased but I I I’m kind of
pulling for a he’s a I’ve been a fan of
his for a long time I’ll tell you what
you’re you’re a journalist so you you
you’re supposed to never be biased yeah
I’m a journalist time journalist

come on here’s Dan Mahoney I mean he
needs this like this guy hasn’t broken
85 I’ve seen his his scores at Whisper
rock is he wearing Nike tuned airs I
know this not even golf this is an
interesting get up but this would really
do something for his confidence he needs
this we’ve seen this put bra a little
off the right Edge come on dude that’s
where it’s going to burn for Dan it’s
all Breaking towards Tempe his Caddy’s
probably saying it’s brok breaking
towards the so let’s talk about that a
little bit because we are built on a
little bit higher elevation here on the
west east side excuse me of Phoenix and
we’re we’re nestled kind of in between
the Phoenix Zoo the Phoenix Airport
papao park and then here we are so the
downtown is kind of top right of the
screen yeah no so Pat Mo this is this is
what’s great about this Pat Mo right
here putting went to ASU in the
foreground here is the ASU Campus that’s
how close we are he played at as you was
an All-American I mean I looked up to
this guy and he’s got a chance for a
birdie with grand STS come on Pat that
is how their grass clippens open is
going to conclude it’s going to finish
for minage three for him I got to say
I’m pretty surprised they finished three
under Pat Moore is is as legit as of a
golfer as anybody in this field um I
know he’s going to be kicking himself
here’s Andrew medley a good buddy of Pat
Moors who also played college golf I
believe at Arkansas who was also an
All-American
yeah no slouch there that punch stroke
solid gave it a little heat and again
there’s another guy that is not playing
to his capability well I tell you what
you’re talking about some fantastic
amers former Collegiate players that are
in this field and when we we we talk
about the the competition between them
it’s probably been a while since they’ve
been in a scenario where they’ve had to
compete Under The Lights Under the
cameras I mean here we’re doing a
broadcast right right here welcome in
here and here’s the the Carr and Sarah
group that wasn’t Andrew
medley it happens but there’s a birdie
oh and again you know I queued them up
to make it it’s I’m going to I’m going
to take credit for that one you
disrespect it and they do I mean come on
that’s what this is all about tell you
what he you can tell that uh he might
not have the hands that he used to have
going with the long wand trying to get
some confidence and I tell you what it
it uh it showed there and that and
there’s another concluded championship
and these guys just having a blast I
mean the the conversations here’s uml
trying to save par he’s not going to
that is the worst stroke I’ve seen the
long time kind of like you said even
these young guys especially young guys
you don’t get to play in a in in front
of fans ever and you might go shoot 62
on a course in in in northern Arizona
when nobody’s watching it’s different
making these putts tell and when you see
a scoreboard in the distance that’s also
going to be you know just something to
to else to get you going I can’t wait as
this day progresses we’re here for well
now 2 and 1/ half hours or so and
there’s a proper role and we’re going to
bring all the action he’s a good player
this kid’s going to go on to do
something you’re going to hear that name
for a couple for for years from now

what impresses you about showing the
most his demeanor I mean I love
confidence not not not Cockiness but
confidence and I when I went up to him I
said how’d you play he goes 700 and it
was a I could have played better I love
that about a guy well now there is
a championship in in the books for this
gentleman and Aaron you you’re seeing
the vibe we’re got we’re going to
consistently come down to you Aaron for
the vibe checks but tell you these guys
coming off the green they look like they
have had an absolute

Miguel this is Miguel Miguel Montero he
was a MLB Legend right here uh you
played the last couple days how’d you
finish how do you think you guys played
well we
played we started out really good and
then everything just went down uh we
played at 300 but uh I’m a 95 handicap
though so he’s not bad I got a lot of FR
over here for us to finish is like UND
feel good about myself now that’s solid
you played in some big games you had a
Grand Slam in the World Series okay all
right we got to get these guys real

seriously a couple of them came in to
check with me and see if anybody scared
the hole yet and I told him it’s wide
open wide open for him to do something

know if that’s don’t I don’t know if
that’s legal maybe that’s the USGA

Rous and I’s tied for the lead and I got
to be honest I I I didn’t see this I
really thought they were going to finish

it more than anything well what’s wrong
with Jack Rous he’s just he’s younger I
don’t think he’s battle tested and this
is a big moment for him and I mean good
for this
kid Rous on the way he’s working the
ball the wrong
direction that is deep in the streets
again I wish I was on somebody’s bag

it’s just ridiculous and I when you talk
about am amate golfers they just don’t
know what they’re doing most times and

Foley another legend of the tournament
or he he’s repping the ball to shw there
the belt it’s a powerful move tell you
what let’s look at this powerful move
let’s just let admire the
move just CLI I don’t hate the golf
swing he doesn’t like it not even going
to look at it we’ll look at it for you
jeez what he put in the parking lot well
that’s how bad it was there’s ball here
there’s ball right lower side of our
screen that’s whole
High nothing to boys to hate but let’s
talk about this prize pool because I’m
looking at a purse of 100 Grand here Mr
Dobson yeah and that’s the funny part
and because everyone says you know
there’s a purse and everything but the
players aren’t playing for the purse
they’re am golfers okay and there’s a
structure in this tournament where the
the golfers don’t take the money yeah
the owners do and so for instance people
could buy a qualifying spot put them in
there those guys go on to run they win
$40,000 so as you just stated here each
team is owned by an actual owner each
franchise franchise can have up to eight
players we’ll get into all of that in a
minute but we’re talking about the money
here 40,000 goes to that team owner who
takes the Championship today and that’s
that’s a good prize it is a good prize
it’s it’s it’s it’s enough to get you as
Aaron would say horny about this golf
tournament um so I’m sorry to steal from
you Aaron but uh yeah I mean I got I I
know all the owners in the league I’ve
done some in-depth uh journalism and
they’re all stoked I mean I’ll tell you
one thing they’ll be stoked that they
get fifth place and win $6,000 so again
in my opinion it’s not even really about
the money that’s just some digits on a
screen these guys want to win this
moment they want to win this stage oh I
love that moment let’s let’s get into
the grass League Just a Touch here while
we have players walking up found it in
2024 this is the first Par 3 lighted
golf league to be broadcasting Prime
Time how does that make you feel you’ve
been covering this for years from from
ID to what it is now like what does that
feel like to see this this be tangible
well like everybody else I thought these
guys were full you know full of air and
I was you know yeah we all want to do
this we all want to do that we all want
to walk on the moon um but they they
were steadfast about it and it’s really
really crazy to see where it was and
where it is now again and now they’re
they’re taking on this league format
again I at every turn it it’s it’s
something new it’s exciting it’s
inspiring and when you look at the
players that are out here the fans that
are out here I mean hey there’s a guy
over here he goes hey I heard I could
get a tattoo I want to get a muskies
tattoo and and I said to myself I’m I’m
a journalist and I like to write stories
imagine this these guys start this grass
league with franchises on a lighted golf
course you know I Greg Norman wouldn’t
care about that you know they’d be like
it sounds like something high schoolers
are doing I just had asked had a guy
want to get a tattoo of the muskies
people are rling around this stuff I
mean look at the guys in the back look
at the guys
he’s he’s chatting it up with the the
gal in the back he’s he’s having a great
time it’s it’s just you love to see this
for the game of golf cuz we need it
right now and you talk about the muskies
which is a franchise team name and then
we get into the franchises because we’ve
you you’ve you have multiple people
invested in this league you know having
a franchise we’ve got teams from New
York the bluebirds of New York the Tampa
Bay swamp dogs the La Roses the muskies
of Minnesota Canada hat tricks they got
the whole damn country of Canada they’re
representing Dallas Golf Club when when
you saw the ideation of this and now we
have teams from all kinds of dmas what’s
next you got to add some more teams in
here yeah that’s the idea they’ve been
they’ve been telling me is that after
this tournament this summer they’re
going to sell more teams and here’s Jack
Rous I mean look at him CHR phly over
the back again I I I may have misspoke I
thought this was a young guy look at him
walking up here talking like he’s played
at the Masters before I it’s been a
little while since I’ve seen him he’s
grown up a lot I’m proud of the kid and
just to clarify he’s an independent team
not everybody’s on a
franchise and that’s a and we’ll get
into that as well as Michael Christ Foy
and and Jack
Rous came through qualifying to get into
this event they are he said on a
non-franchise team what does that mean
though do you want to be on a franchise
or do you want to be a qualifying pair
well it’s it’s there’s two ways to look
at yeah you want to be on a franchise
cuz these franchises are putting their
own dollars into the teams like for
instance the Phoenix United Team you
would have thought it was Christmas
morning the other day I was out here
everyone’s got orange bags they’re
pulling out Jordans they’re pulling out
hats this and the other they’re all
smiling like they they’re kids um you
want to be a part of that but what’s
cool about this with the independent is
they’re they’re not guaranteed anything
oh we’re we’re we’re coming out of left
field here yeah not guaranteed shots
fired from everywhere guaranteed a par
with that and you talk about that
Phoenix United Team owned by Manor which
is a phoenix based clothing retailer and
it’s really cool the name of it to
United Phoenix United Phoenix is known
as a transient Town my dad’s a Minnesota
Vikings fan you know his dad’s a Chicago
Bulls fans even though they’ve lived
here for 30 years Brian doxer here’s a
fun fact about this this cat he uh he
owns the Hollywood hitters I didn’t know
they played golf in Hollywood let alone
where do you play golf in Hollywood I
know I thought it was all concrete but
he owns a company called Commonwealth
and what they do is they do
fractionalized ownership of of horses of
golfers Etc like horse racing horses
yeah
and and so you know we can get more into
the Hollywood hitters but as we’re
sitting here we can kind of revert back
to the franchises I would say there’s
there’s a good part of wanting to play
for for both both either independent or
a
franchise well this is the grass

out of a camper in in south Tucson so
this is an upgrade was it Down by the
River no probably not and this has got
to go a mile come

for the folks at home that don’t know
about this golf course and where it’s
been and what it’s been through to even
be able to host this Championship built
1958 went underwent a $15 million
renovation and long story short these
greens are running a tick under 11 on
the STI meter 10.9 to be exact and it’s
again a testament to Scott Hebert and
his team it I mean if we can get a shot
of the ground screw at some point
tonight it is it’s some nothing short of
inspirational they have taken this golf
course and made it to where again I
think this can hold up for a PGA Tour
event to be honest well that’s that’s um
audacious to to talk about a par three
PGA Tour event I it could happen and you
know why and you know why that would be
cool and I don’t think it would happen
is because those guys have everything to
lose if they come out here you know
these guys have everything to gain you
know you don’t want to come out here as
a number top 100 player in the world and
and lose to some kid named Jack Rous you
just made putt you know uh I I feel like
Aaron Scotty sheffler might go low
around here considering the fact he
hasn’t shot over par this entire
year yeah I’m going to agree with you on
that one uh and just to to piggyback off
the the ground crew comment Trace who
hedge groundkeeper here who’s been
playing in this tournament last night
got to follow him around a little bit
the rest of the ground screw was
following him and it was just electric
they love the guy it truly is such a
community between those guys I’m was a
big fan big fan of everything uh grass
clippings is doing and Trace and his
crew truly they’re the best Trace is
coming up in a few groups that’s going
to be that’s going to be special you’re
going to want to cue the cue the music
for that one because Drew and he’s
actually playing with the Golf Digest
writer Drew Powell let’s get a quick
little peek and how the leaderboard has
moved you just saw Rouch and Christ foly
finish they are currently the leaders in
the clubhouse at 11 under par three-way
tie at the top but there are plenty of
players just behind at the last tea time

off not too long ago last T time was 436
local here on the Pacific time but I
feel like even at this moment with with
Roush and Christopher Lee in the house
Mr doson this is still a Wide Open
Championship oh it’s I mean I’m happy
that they’re going to hold the lead for
you know maybe 20 minutes this is

Derek Bolan Derek Bolan is the the agent
of uh Joel
Damon and his buddy Lawrence jarvey
lives in Arcadia you know spends a lot
of time down there great golfer but a
big stage for him and you’re seen it

this golf course removing 13 acres of
turf yep 13 Acres of turf Todd why did
we remove so much Turf so there was you
know there’s a lot of talk about water
conservation here especially in Arizona
it’s you know it was a it was a a hot
one out here today um 93 it reached
today yeah we we thought we could shrink
the the the water usage the footprint it
it requires to keep up a golf course
like that and really focus in on the the
key areas being the tea boxes the the
fairways in the greens yeah uphill putt
though for
birdie how about it kid cash Moola
there’s one haven’t seen a birdie Aon in
a long that’s the first birdie I think
we’ve seen love to see it love to see it
is it the blue birds did the blue birds

qualifying team you can buy a they just
and then you call up two of your sticks
and so it goes back to Growing the game
of golf okay there’s some people that
just can’t play hold on stop you know
what people say grow in the game but

so who’s where where we I mean it’s
growing don’t get me wrong everybody has
access to play and I love that but the
barrier to own a team is still kind of
stout and and we’re not trying to grow
the game of golf with owners we’re
trying to use those owners to go Inspire
kids to play golf there’s the secret

pleasure of playing with him in the good

Dave Roberts there’s a reason why he’s
the coach he’s the most inspirational
positive human being and if I’m in the
trenches I want him next to me and you
know what I like people like him trying
to grow the game doing that to grow the
exactly and my point is imagine if Dave
Roberts tweeted out or did something and
said I’m looking for the two best
amateur golfers in Los Angeles now you
have kids or even adults that are going
to put away a different put away the
baseball M and say you know what I’m
going to pick up the golf club cuz I
want to play for Dave Roberts for the
Los Angeles roses I’ll tell you what
Dave Roberts I I bumped into Dave one
day at Camelback no excuse me we were at
Phoenician bumped into him on the
driving range couldn’t have been more
approachable it wasn’t until after he

who that was I was like hell no who the

he’s a skipper for the LA Dodgers I was

shot lead moments ago now this to
stretch it to three excuse me stretch it
to two because the Gap has been
cut medley in bags they are at 12
underpar as well as DeFalco and common
there’re in they’re at 12 under par as
well and jeez tell you what when those
players that are at 12 under par have
well almost the entire back nine to play
you look at def Falco and common they’re
through 11 holes they’re on the 12th
they’re already six under for their
route and this pair here nine under for
their round of golf and I just think you
talk about the winners of the qualifying
tournament to get in here they shot 10
under par and now sh got a putt to do
just
that it’s impressive it’s very very
impressive and there’s and but the
leaderboard is closing in on so this is
a big putt I I got to say they’re
they’re going to have to make this if
they want a chance of winning
yeah again the pendulum swings quick in

making money here and there yeah totally

it’s the first lighted golf league
broadcast in prime time ever so this is
pretty cool glad to be here with you
Aaron you you made history as well uh 10
franchises from markets including New
York Los Angeles Dallas they got they
used to have the Motor City there in
Detroit as well and you know there’s
going to be more franchises to be sold
and again we’re talking about 160,000
for some of these folks at investment
but some are really investing not in the
team but more in the potential growth of
golf
yeah I think collectively all the owners
even the players see this as tomorrow’s
Golf and again there’s going to be a
meeting of the minds after this after
this tournament tonight because again
players are free agents no one has
signed a lucrative long-term deal I
think they’re going to be scrambling
looking at their team saying we got to
lock them up don’t go talk to that guy
it’s going to be an interesting
atmosphere after this round concludes
because once we get back to the fall
like you said everybody’s technically
unless they’ve already Inked like a a a
longer term term deal these folks are
have the ability to be bidded upon or
coaxed into leaving their current
situation and into another one and
having covered it I’ve known of
conversations that have happened where
guys are trying to do an nil deals but
look at this moment right here how
special is this for a guy Trace Jacobson
who works on the staff his mentor Scott
Heber showing him everything he knows
his first job out of college was July
1st this summer when we when grass
clippings took over and now he’s playing
with a rider for the for Golf Digest
well it’s it’s kind of just where dreams
can come true the grass League you know
you got guys that are coming out of
college and you know the mini tours are
not a comfortable place to be as we see
Jacobson pal putting from the back of
the green and that’s not going to have
any anything on it it’s going to be all
up to trace but one thing that that I
love about this property facility the
people that have put this on their
commitment to highlighting the
superintendent yeah and that’s been from
day one right there we’re looking at
Trace I he was he was here at 600 a.m.
cutting the greens double rolling the
greens working the fairways was here at
5 a.m. working now he’s playing at
night you know there wasn’t really much
recognition given to Greens Keepers and
it was our it was you know the grass
clipping mission to bring these guys
into the spotlight and look at this well
here’s the moment

happens what I do love about you know
the guys like Pete Wilson that are a
part of this is the fact that it’s not
talk you know the love for
superintendent we we see the example in
Trace Jacobson right here in the field

crew members greenskeepers are tucked
often into the distance tucked off they
you know keep them away from the patrons
as they’d say on the Masters broadcast

beds pull up to the taco truck and
they’re eating with the owners of the
place the guys that’s about to tea off

broadcaster he was the first person I

do I had needed job I made one said

uh yeah this is fun I came out here I
got a bunch of buddies playing this

uh former PGA champion and to watch the
guys and then uh they said you’re not
doing anything come on up and say a few
words so I’ve been watching these guys a
lot of these guys here we go you got got
the bouncer a lot of these guys got
really good action um you know they’re
all they’re all just golf nuts is what
they are and they all have a they all
have a uh a desire to play at at the
next level whatever that level presents
right well Gary you said something that
I’m going to remember for years you said
this is golf but brighter and I love the
play I love the play on words yeah you
got it there’s no one better at at that
than you sir yeah we can Market you know
as good as they can I’m never going to
not use that as long as Bleacher Reports
lets me broadcast and I’d say you got ta
let’s talk a little bit about your your
experience being the 18th hole
announcers it’s not the first hole it’s
the 18th hole where you getting
announced 18th hole one hole and in the
old days at at CBS when I first started
in ‘
86 we were only on for an hour and a
half so it started 16 so this is not
much different a lot and I was on the
16th T A lot of times it would go they
would actually play fast and I’d go
there to broadcast and never got a group
they’re already through which was great
because they actually paid you for doing
nothing which then they did for 35 years
did the same thing paid me for doing
nothing well like you said early when in
my broadcast career golf is saying the
same thing over and or figuring out a
different way to say the same thing that
was what you told you know that’s
exactly right I I learned that uh here’s
what you’re going to do every body when
the producer follows they’re going to
follow one guy and if he hits a t- shot
then you’re going to watch that guy putt
out so the deal is you’re going to watch
everybody make a putt from 3 feet now 34
years later you’re saying the same thing
and you got to make it different every
time and it gets to the point uh that it
gets um well you come up with a lot of
weird stuff and uh it it it’s fun it
it’s fun to paint word pictures I
remember first guy I worked with it was
Vern l who just retired from CBS at the
Masters and uh Vern kind of taught me
early paint a picture Kid real quick and
get out because there’s a lot of balls
in the air so I learned that real fast
you don’t get into stories you can’t do
any that it’s got to be Bam Bam let’s go
to 14 let’s go to 18 let’s go to 16 well
right now we’ve got to go back to 18
Gary because we’ve got to take a peek at
some things that happened earlier today
yeah let me see some shots we’re going

who turned well all broadcaster
influencer Bryce Butler from distance no

they’re doing it we’re going down now
team ended up finishing Gary at plus two
that’s sry when I got out here first
thing I looked at it was okay I got to
read the green so where where are the
valleys and there’s a valley on 18 going
down and depositing the water towards
the airport so I figured everything
breaks to this Valley they’re going in
right now that’s so I got it figured out
well the aronburg family owns that and
the aronberg family actually owns they
own quite a few things they have they
have partial ownership minority stake in
the Miami Marlins they own a piece of
the F1 Alpine racing team you ever heard
of Real Salt Lake the soccer club they
own a piece of that too there you go
they they know what they’re doing with
the with sports franchises all right
Gary and and in case you don’t know
let’s because you kind of came in hot
I’ll make it up if I don’t know you kind
of came in hot let’s let’s go ahead and
talk a little bit about what we’re
seeing here at the grass clippings open
so this is the inaugural event of the
grass League okay $100,000 up for grass
now most of these players are amers
they’re if if they do win the $40,000
first place it actually goes to the team
owner not the actual players on the team
and then they figure that out by
themselves now it’s a 36 hole event
started yesterday and now we are into
today two 75 teams of Tums Gary they’re
playing a scramble million dollars for
the ace now tell me something you you’ve
been around this game for a long time
yeah what the hell do you think about
this well I you know the concept the
whole concept is really interesting cuz
as you know if you’re reading all the
stuff we’ve got now on on the tour and
what’s going on uh our numbers are about
20% down per week on the PGA tour so
there is a lot of apathy towards the
game right now from all these people
that played it for whatever reason um
they’re not real keen on it but I think
if you throw something like this up and
it’s NightLight Golf and there’s a bunch
of people that don’t play for a living
and uh they’re trying to C carve out a
little niche uh because they all had
dreams when they were young and they
failed miserably and now they’re they
get a chance to play for some money and
it’s you know it’s fantastic it really
is it’s uh it it looks like it’s fun
it’s I tell you what again and I not
getting paid for any of this crap I was
in the bar when they got me um they
marketed this thing really well because
I started to look at the stuff and
everybody kind of knew about it so
that’s when I decided I’m going to come
out here and take a look and see what’s
going on since it’s fa close to my house
so um that’s it I I I’m curious let’s
put it that way I’m very curious well
look I don’t know how to pronounce his
last name that’s Adam km k m m k so I’m
just going to call him kmac here putting
up this hill for birdie there’s a little
movement late Gary but I tell you what
when’s the last time that you were in
the booth can we see one the last time
you were in in the booth well tell the

suits around you know always the guys
coming from New York and they’re all the
programmers and the uh and all the CEOs
and and that so you got to act kind of
normal but These Guys these guys could
drink Frank shinan who invented this

while there’s a tournament going
on in the middle of the city well never
it’s TPC it’s not in the middle of the
city uh the fair well I’ll tell you
since we can talk about anything
anything um and I’ll tell you a story
about the TPC Scott still uh the year
was
1986 that’s a okay burning one and I am
um I am going on the policy board okay
I’m one of the four player directors uh
I was told by Dean Beaman to go out and
look at a new facility we were playing
at Phoenix Country Club on the corner of
7th in Thomas which is kind of downtown
and he said I want you and Ed sne I was
replacing him on the board to go out and
look at some new property uh that we
might put a golf course so I go out and
it took us 45 minutes to an hour to
climb up the mountain to go to where the
TPC now is by the airport right so I
went out there and I got up on the burn
and I looked around there’s only there
was only two golf courses no north of
basically the 101 okay where the airport
is only two then at that time 1986 it
was nothing but tumble weeds Cactus
lizards and
rattlesnakes and we’re out in the middle
of nowhere at that time and I I go back
now to the board and I have to make a I
have to make a a little speech to the
board about what I thought about the new
facility well we’re going to get to that
answer what do we got because we’re down
with ta and Aaron and Aaron what the
hell are you doing it looks good on him
doesn’t it I’m just trying to remind
people what’s steak here feels like
everyone fell asleep with the wheel

for a dollar I paused and I said you
paid too much wow and what 750,000
people were there last time thank God
I’m not noer Damas thank god well I’ll
tell you what I remember being there on
the on the call for PJ Tour live that
week Gary and well after after a
Restless group of people they actually
bum rushed Security in 20,000 people
slipped in the back door I got a little
got a little out of hand they slipped in
the front door technically got a little
but we’re not being critical they’ll be
all right they’ll be right Aaron on the
T who we got I don’t know but he’s a
bigan I don’t know he’s he’s dirty as
hell that’s all I know all is diry

hit I think the tour gets 730 million a
year for the TV ride so so they can pay
us a couple bucks they can uh yeah us I

yeah as we call him Kitty can can can
launch his ball very good player he and
uh he and um SAS drew staltz that is
very good and this is this is kind of
funny so well salvanera played at
Arizona State so this guy can
actually there’s a looker there you go

I will say this place it’s not easy it’s
hard but you know it’s iron so if you if
you’re stacking it well you’re going to

night the depth perception gets tough
wedge distance control’s got to be good
spin spin controls got to be really good
so it’s fun it’s a good contest cool you

it’s when you’re back you can’t see

I mean the iris opens up on these
cameras so what you see right there is
really bright it’s not bright okay so
the the light is flat and you need light
for depth perception to figure out where
the bumps and the hotles are to run
these things so you just got to get used
to it it’s very interesting when these
guys are out playing and they transition
from daylight into flatlight into
darkness and then illuminated by some
light that uh throws all sorts of weird
shadows on it so again golf is hard golf
is hard and look we are nestled right in
TIY Arizona grass clipp is just is just
a unique place to play golf it’s
a we’ve
seen insurance salesman we’ve seen
Realtors we’ve seen Johnny
Manzel out here playing golf football

I’m going to have to ask my producers we
saw them make a par but um you know we
got a ho inone opportunity right here

it’s the final round of the grass League
inaugural event here at grass clip Sor
there’s a lot of grass talk there are
things that are legal here in Arizona
that might not be legal everywhere but
there’s a lot of grass talk there was a
guy at the tea came up to me said hey
how you doing he’s playing and he had a
big
beard he he had been smoking weed for
about three months say the guy couldn’t
get near the guy and he he took it back
and just striped it okay okay that was
great well that’s where we are guys we
are in tempy Arizona in the Metro
Phoenix area as we now
have well Gary I’m trying to figure out
through all this paper and the wind
blowing you know we’re outside in a
booth makeshift Booth I don’t know who
the hell this is putting right now but
I’ll tell you what see what he did right
there his elbows were out and they were
on the line very interesting on the line
he was putting on which is if you look
at the biomechanics if you do that the
putter blade has a tendency to go back
and forth fairly straight so the idea is
if you bend down to putt for take your
two if if a plane of glass came straight
up off the ball on the angle of your
putter take your two elbows and you
spread them out and try to hit the glass
and then you just rock your shoulders
and biomechanically that’s supposed to
keep the blade as sincere as possible
through your putting Str well thank you
Bryson mcord for that putting Bryson and
I used to have a great time out there I
I had a ball with him we got talking
about all sorts of things well that is
the pairing of David shell and Dan Norma
Jr and again trying to VI for top spots
and Gary top 20 gets into this event for

something that was the precursor to what
we’re starting to see today that’s a
nice little part three there and there’s
a putt that we’re just it’s going to

something in this ground that they are
not seeing at the hole Yeah and again

figure out where it’s going basically

they were qualifiers in kson and hops
have made a birdie they are tied for the

common and Def Falco they’re at 12
they’re through 14 holes they have four
holes remaining in their championship
they are at 6 under for the round so
right now we’ve got a leadership as we
see Buckner and Haynes we’ve got a
leadership group that they can now tie
for the lead with a made putt right here

now it’s a better read yeah yeah yeah
and there is a hold putt that thing was
hunting right there for the group of
Billy Haynes and Dan Buckner now they
are tied and in the house they have
concluded their championship at 13 and
Gary we’re going to go take another look
at this what do you like about this

um I’ve like I said just from my
perspective I think it’s been an amazing
success and you know the hlon boys and
all those guys uh uh kudos to them
because I think they really went out on
a limb to do this and and kudos to them
for pulling it off beautiful hops um
talk to me what would it mean to win the
first ever event out here in the grass
League it’s always good to win but yeah
the inaugural W as much as I’ve been
involved with uh with Jimmy and and Jake
and and Pete uh all the setup all the
stuff for weeks and weeks months and
months logos things everything the teams
uh it would really be good and I have
some really tight teams behind us we got
one that’s uh another musky team that’s
tied we got you know right behind us
with a couple holes to play it would
mean the world to me just personally
because of the greatness of of these
guys coming out to donate their time and
and have fun and represent my company
and and my logo uh I couldn’t ask for
better partner with he’s always a
standup guy and just never makes a
mistake he’s so good so uh it helps us
we all we all pull from it so it would
mean the world amazing go get that
birdie pulling for you well Aaron

after after seeing Brian hops well it

think the world of them the future is
