welcome to links and locks action
Network’s golf betting podcast presented
by bet 365 I’m your host Andy laak and
I’ll be joined alongside action golf
contributor Tony Sor for these Best Bets
episodes and just like Jason and Ben
have done the past couple of years Tony
and I will play nine holes of golf today
giving our nine favorite picks for this
week’s Tourette dessert classic of New
Orleans before we dive into this episode
a reminder that the L un locks podcast

gambling problem call 1 1800 gamble or 1
1800 bets off in Iowa terms conditions
and restrictions whyly okay Tony we are
on the first te here for our zurk
classic Best Bets get us started yeah
absolutely so it’s um it feels almost
poetic we’re going to go nine holes
today because not a lot of markets are
available for this tournament we’re
going to be mostly focusing on outrights
and I mean that feels it kind of feels
like almost a bye on the schedule with
the Byron Nelson coming up and the
Masters and the RBC in the rearview
mirrors so I’m I’m excited just have
kind of a light but fun week this week
and what is a unique event um but the
first pairing that I’m going to Target
in the outright Market is Tom hogi and
Maverick mcney at 25 to1 so Tom hogi has
been a ball striking machine this season
he’s gained true Strokes on the approach
in 10 consecutive tournaments he’s made
the weekend all 10 of those events and
he has seven top 20 finishes over that
stretch he ranked second on tour in
Strokes gained on the approach trailing
only Scotty trailing only Scotty
sheffler and we obviously know what
Scotty is doing right now thankfully in
terms of betting Scotty does have a
well-earned week off this week so I’m
hoping the field will really kind of
open up more and we might get a more
unique winner for for the first time in
a few weeks here on tour um and then on
the other hand you have Maverick MCN and
I feel like he is a good high high floor
compliment to hogi and I that should
create a good partnership MCN has made
the weekend eight straight tournaments
three top 15 finishes over that span I
don’t know if his ceiling as high as
hogi but I think his floor is higher and
I kind of just trust him more to kind of
guide the group along while hogi kind of
makes the bigger approach shots along
the way so mcne is gonna bring that
short game which he’s more well known
for and hogi is obviously I mean the way
he’s playing he’s one of the best ball
Strikers on tour right now so if you
have that compliment of a guy with a
good short game hogi ball striking
there’s a lot of ways that they can
score on these holes and so that’s why I
like them at 25 to1 this week love that
one I’m going to stick in the outright
market and the same tier of the odds
boort and go with Adam hadwin and Nick
Taylor and Hance 27 to1 on bet
365 uh this is a team that finished
runner up at this event last year and
you got a lot of new teams in the field
this week a lot of players that have not
proven that they can play well together
and are able to channel that chemistry
this team almost won the entire thing
last here and both of them are playing
some really good golf this year I mean I
I think you could even make the argument
in the case of Nick Taylor that he’s
leveled up since his win uh since his
runnerup finish last year at the Zer he
won TPC Scottdale uh the Phoenix Open
earlier this year that’s another TPC
style of course with over seated Bermuda
greens and then in the case of Adam
hadwin uh I mean he’s finished top five
at Riviera this year he’s the number one
player in Strokes game total at PGA West
which is another Pete die design driver
heavy golf course with over seated
Bermuda green so outside of their
success at TBC Louisiana um these are
the types of golf courses that both of
these players um completely raise their
Baseline on you want them on overseed
Bermuda you want them on driver heavy
easier scoring conditions TPC style of
architecture golf courses so uh this is
a slam dunk to me in my opinion I I
think this team team wins the event this
year yeah absolutely love that um I I’m
keep us in the outright Market I’m going
to go a little further down now and I’m
going to go uh to the 45 to1 range and
that’s Thomas dietre and Robert McIntyre
so dri just put on a good performance at
the RBC this past week which is once
again D due to his putter his I mean
Flat Sticks on fire for him right now
he’s gained true Strokes putting four
straight tournaments making the weekend
in all four and finishing runner up at
the Texas Children’s Houston open during
that stretch so if he’s going to bring
the putter how what’s Robert McIntyre
going to bring to this group and to me
that’s the driver both guys are big
hitters so I mean they they’ll both
contribute off the te for sure but
McIntyre has gained distance on the
field in nine consecutive tournaments
he’s also gained Strokes off the te in
six of uh six of his past eight
tournaments and one of those was uh in
Mexico where McIntyre finished in sixth
place so M we saw McIntyre burst on of
the scene last year when he battled Rory
M at the Genesis Scottish open uh before
finishing runner up he hasn’t
necessarily well he definitely hasn’t
reached that high of a level since that
performance but he’s shown that the
ceiling is there so if he’s going to
contribute more off the te I definitely
trust dri short game to win these guys
some holes so and and finally dri also
finished 13th here last year I’ll be it
with a different partner but now he’s
got that was his first appearance um in
Louisiana finished 13th and now I think
I kind of trust this partner more than
his one last year so at 45 to one I like
the McIntyre and D Tre
pairing I’m going to stick in the uh the
outright right Market uh again in that
same tier of the odds board and go with
Davis Thompson and Andrew Novak 60 to1
um I think both these players present a
lot of upside Novak’s played some great
golf this year he’s finished top 20 and
four of his last seven EV gaining over
3.5 Strokes on approach in four of his
last seven events and I think Davis
Thompson can pick up a lot of that slack
off the T um Thompson’s got plenty of
power off the te he’s one of the better
drivers of the ball in this field uh
which is not Novak’s strength uh but I
think what you want to identify in this
field is on these teams you need at
least one player that can get completely
scorching hot on approach because this
is a second shot golf course it’s really
easy and non Peno off the d Everybody
kind of just hits driver and then the
differentiation that you get on this
golf course is with your second shot and
with your putter um Novak provides that
in terms of his ability to heat up on
approach he’s had a lot of success
getting hot with the putter as well on
overseed Bermuda greens and I think
Thompson is just a well-rounded better
overall player that can like I mentioned
pick up a lot of that slack off the te
um I think this is a team that presents
a lot of value and has the upside to to
really make a run at at this event um so
I thought at 60 to1 this is one of the
better values on the board in Davis
Thompson and Andrew Novak absolutely if
you if those who watch this instead of
listen if you saw me smile I am on the
same exact pairing that’s 60 to one um I
don’t want to repeat everything Andy
just said the only thing I want to add
is that Novak um is in really good form
making the weekend and six of his past
seven tournaments he’s got three top 10
finishes over that stretch and the and
Andy was just talking about how Novak is
the good ball striker of the group
especially on the approach rather he’s
gained true Strokes on the approach in
five of those seven tournaments so
that’s what he’s going to bring like
Andy also said Davis Thompson’s going to
contribute with that distance the T but
also his short game is improving as well
so I think he can help in that area too
but his main value is definitely going
to be that distance um and when you look
at distance and you’re looking at an
improving short game those are sometimes
the two areas where Novak or yeah where
Novak’s kind of like hit or miss you
know what I mean so there’s a good
complimentary pairing which has kind of
been a big theme for me this week and I
think that can set them up for Success
at 60 to one I am going to go into the
top 10 Market uh and go with tor Moore
and Matthew n smith top 10 plus 450 I
was surprised that this Duo is not
getting a bit more respect on the odds
board given the fact that they finished
fourth at this tournament uh last year
and I would argue that again Taylor
Moore has potentially leveled up and is
playing some much better golf is a is a
better golfer than he was at this time
last year uh Mo just came is coming off
a top 25 at the Masters he’s got a ton
of power off the as well uh I know n
Smith hasn’t been playing as good golf
this season but I think the added
benefit that you’re getting with n Smith
is that ability to heat up on approach
and like I talked about with David to
Davis Thompson and Andrew Novak I think
the ideal skill set that you’re looking
for this week is you need one player
that is a great iron player n Smith
covers those tracks and then Taylor
Moore is a great driver of the ball he
hits the ball really far off the te and
he can get scorching hot with the lat
stick as well so I think if we could
just get something close to his Baseline
on approach from n Smith Moore is going
to pick up a lot of slack in the other
areas and and more always has that
ability particular on overseed Bermuda
which has been a great service fir him
to gain seven8 n Strokes with the putter
we’ve seen that from Taylor more uh
often in the past so I love this Duo to
repeat their success at the Z classic
and finish in the top 10 for second
straight year at almost 5 to1
love it and I’m gonna go back to the
outright Market just one more time and
I’m going to look at uh Doug gim and
Chan Kim at 45 to1 so we’ve talked a lot
about Doug gim on this podcast which is
it was more so when we first started but
that’s because he got off to a
blistering start to the campaign he
finished 13th at the Farmers Insurance
open the first of what would end up
being five straight top 20 finishes
including his top he had top 20 at the
players and that’s a that was against
the field that’s obviously so so much
more stacked than what he’s going to go
against this week gim is slowed down
recently for sure but the ceiling is
there and that’s why I like his pairing
with Kim because Kim is kind of trending
the in the other direction he’s trending
upward uh Kim just finished sixth at
last week’s kis pakana Championship that
marked the eighth straight weekend
appearance for Kim who boasts three top
15 finishes over that spam so the one
like contrarian take to that is being
like well how impressive is that Kow
performance and like I’d see what you’re
saying with that for sure but like I
would argue that the field we’re going
to see this week is closer to the CR
field than the field we saw at RBC so if
he was able to um handle that field well
last week if he gets the help of gim who
can maybe show some flashes of what he
was doing earlier this season I think
this pairing could definitely find
himself towards the top of the
leaderboard come Sunday so at 45 to one
I like Doug gim and Chan
Kim uh I am going to go to the top 20
Market this week for my final play of
the week and give out Justin s and Rico
hoey plus 260 to finish in the top 20 uh
we’ve talked about complimentary skill
sets a fair amount on this podcast
already uh and I think what Rico Hoy and
Justin s are both bringing to the table
are are pretty unique and singular and
different from each other Ho’s a great
ball Striker uh he’s one of the better
drivers of the ball in this field he can
get hot with his irons as well but he is
severely lacking in the short game and
putting to department and if you look at
what Justin Su does well um Su is one of
the better overall Putters in this field
he’s had a lot of success putting on
overseed Bermuda greens as well so I
think if you can get into a situation
where SA is putting for Hoy on a lot of
these holes particularly an alternate
shot and um you’re getting the
combination of those two complimentary
skill sets feeding off of each other um
I think this is actually a pairing that
could make some real noise particularly
at plus 260 in the top 20 Market really
not a high bar to clear when a lot of
these teams on the back end do not even
have two legitimate PGA Tour players
anymore um and I think sa and Hoy are
are both legit PJ tour players that are
on the rise so I think as a pairing
considering their complimentary skill
sets considering the power uh that Hoy
brings off the te and the putting upside
that you get with SU plus 260 is my
favorite play in the top 20 Market this
week yeah I really like that and then
I’ll round us out here on whole nine and
I’m going to go after a first round
leader play so this Market is not yet
available at the time of recording and
I’ll be waiting to lock this in until T
times are published and you can find my
article for that here on the Action
Network but I’ll probably um take this
as long as these guys are not like the
last guys te off on Thursday and that’s
Andrew putam and Joe heith to lead after
the first round so putam enters this
week in good form with 10 straight or 10
weekend appearances over his past 12
tournaments hting five top 20 finishes
over that stretch he’s a well-rounded
golfer who is good in pretty much every
a aspect except driving distance that’s
why I like again complimentary golf
that’s the one thing I like about this
pairing is one of the few things High
Smith is above tour averag in is driving
distance and that’s not to take away
from high Smith because he’s a young guy
flirted with winning the corn fairy Tour
Championship just just this year before
heading over to tour and he’s seen mix
results since then but the ceiling is
there he finished six in Puerto Rico
he’s young so he’s continuing to kind of
learn how to be a t player and learn how
to improve but and but that’ll help be
paired with putam who’s been around for
a few years now but at the end of the
day all we need from high Smith is
distance off the tea because and some
good scrambling probably because besides
that putnam’s got kind of everything
else taking care of for this group I
don’t think I trust this group actually
I definitely don’t trust this group to
take down the field over four a four
round sample size but I think they have
the toolkit for sure to pull something
off on Thursday so that will be my final
play of the
week that’ll do it for our Best Bets
