hello there you’re very welcome along to
FBI HQ for the first round draw of this
year’s the 2024 Sports Direct men’s Fai
cup it’s hard to believe we are back
here again as the Quest for this famous
trophy begins officially today before we
get into today’s draw let’s remind
ourselves how last year’s cup was
W all you concentrating on now is making
sure that you perform and impact the
game and making sure that you come out
with the victory you do whatever it
takes to win this game when the sil

I’m delighted for John Daly someone I
would have grown up with playing against
and I’m delighted for him and he’s I
know his father would have been proud of
him John’s
and it’s brilliant for them and it’s
brilliant for Pat and in cor they’ve
really bought into the community and you
can see how much it means to the players

the first round draw and today marks a
very special day for the fbii cup this
was previously the preliminary round
draw it is now the first round draw the
league of Arland teams will link up the
FI cup H in the second round so there
are 20 teams competing uh in the first
round they’re made up from the last 16
from uh the intermediate Cup and the
final four clubs from the fbii Junior
Cup as well we will run through all of
the teams very shortly but I’m delighted
to be in the company of Steve mcginness
the PFA Ireland General Secretary and
the fbii president Mr uh Paul cook

was a a special moment and a career
highlight yeah I so like everything Shan
when when you’re playing and as a kid um
you want to win the biggest cup in the
in the in the country and yeah for your
cup is obviously that what we found with
the cup was winning the league was like
thank God it’s over 20 odd games it’s
over I just found the cup was a far more
euphoric H and the one thing since I’ve
gone on to the other side
and now on the on the union side of
things it’s how important sponsors and
just to Sports Direct how important it
is to have sponsorship and care and the
team that that Sports Direct it’s really
important that they have a strong
sponsor and we have got a strong sponsor
so so from our perspective know that
I’ve gone to the other side and I know
involved from a player point of view
it’s really important they be a strong
sponsor and I suppose what the cup final
now is it’s it’s in everybody’s calendar
it’s not just W is support the two teams
are in the final I think it’s become an
occasion for us all to go to and uh with
Mark scan we’ve now got an area for our
players to go to the games and we the
havlock end it’s been amazing and uh
long way to continue yeah absolutely it
was a cracking co- final last year and
hopefully it’s going to be a great
competition um this year Paul we have
eight lenser Senior League teams eight
moner Senior League teams we have a team
from the inish on Junior League Wexford
Football League limber District league
and the Watford and District association
football league so firstly see the
geographical spread of teams and also
the standard of amateur football in
Ireland is completely on the right
trajectory yeah I think it’s it’s great
to have such a broad representative of
football across the cross the island to
be to be in the cup and to give them all
a chance to play in the top competition
uh just back what Steven said I think
it’s great that Sports Direct have a
good strong sponsor and that’s what we
need to drive to go forward absolutely
um okay Stephen you’re going to be join

going to be eight ties and there going
to be four Buys so the final four teams
draw out will get a buy into the second
round and as I mentioned that’s when the

you could begin by perly placing all the
balls into the

to say that we have a man that is
synonymous with the FBI cup uh Ian
Birmingham twice FBI Cup winner with
pats in 2014 and 20121 we saw the the
video at the start as well of Pats
winning last year what is it about Pats
in the cup something special there yeah
well as PA in 2014 we won it it was I
think it was 53 years since they had won
it so H we’ve had three now in the last
number of years so um it’s great for the
club and as PA I think I’ve gone on
record numerous times saying 2021 was
probably the best day of my career So
and I’ve had really good memories in the
FA Cup and H thankfully I’m still
involved in at this stage even though
I’ve moved on from pets yeah so as I
mentioned you’re playing with
collinstown so Colin sound will play
Wayside Celtic and then who knows if you
overcome Wayside you could Rob hats in
the second round the in Birmingham Derby
but are you enjoying still playing a bit
of ball with Collins yeah yeah still
enjoying it um as I said it’s great for
the club to to be in the FAO cup and um
thankfully we don’t have a long trip
down to Cork or anything like that it’s
um it’s in doubling it would have like
in a home draw but um we’ll give it a
bash and if we can we can get through
that’s that’s the draw that be looking
for in the next round I suppose who
