On todays episode, TW and Bevo join me to talk about some of the best sledges they have both encountered on and off the track during their careers, we discuss Jason Doyles mentality and how we think he’s spearheading the challenge to Zmarzlik in this years Grand Prix, as well as a quiz, and some meeting updates from around the world, all that and more, enjoy!

Motorsports podcast quite excited today
it’s a full house in here I love it when
there’s three of us but um really want
to thank you tww Bevo thanks for being
here boys you’re welcome M what’s
happening what’s happening oh late one
late one yeah come up yeah I was ready
to go to bed oh you were you keep
forgetting how old I am mate you about
to go to the nightclub 7:00 come can you
be at
mine things you got to do yeah yeah no
all good but good to have B here James I
appreciate it it’s good to be here when
was the last time you two boys caught up
a little while ago we haven’t had a good
catch up have we no not for a while not
for Brisbane we’ve seen each other at
Brisbane and a couple of times we
haven’t had a proper catch up for a
while no no for sure I was about to say
the last half an hour out there talking
about the mines I’ve been bored bored
out of we already had an hour catch up
like come on guys the mines yuck but um
but anyways no anything exciting
happening in the in the world of tww at
the moment no I’m I’m mining yeah new
job now getting my head around that no
and I’m still boat shopping oh that’s
right I’m playing I’m playing in my
retirement still yeah found anything
recently yeah yeah I did I went out on
the jet ski the other day went shopping
again and it’s like I feel like I’m at
woolies or Coal’s cuz I I go go to all
the Mariners and I go up and down in the
jet ski up and down down the looking at
the boats but yeah I found this thing
other day I had no idea what it was
called it didn’t have any markings on it
but it was a flybridge cruiser type boat
about 40 foot um any I I end up
messaging um Adam booso M mm he’s you
know he’s in the boats and um and it’s a
thing called a mine ship no a main ship
main ship main ship yeah bit of an old
school looking thing but um right yeah
it’s it it’ll be nice okay how big is
this thing at 40 foot yeah 40 fo that’s
decent that’s huge that’ll fit all of us
on it yeah yeah heat heat One
Motorsports Christmas party send us your
roster and we’ll we’ll keep it warm for
you the
go the bat will never go flat no
that’s that’s sure awesome no just
that’s that’s what I’m up to mate and
just looking after the family good stuff
what about you James what’s what’s the
latest with you um I just finished work
yesterday and uh rode a bit of motocross
today oh out in the sand out theand
that’s hard work I’ve seen you out there
you’re going well oh thanks and um out
at Luke George’s place and it’s so nice
out there plenty of tracks and yeah yeah
it’s good kick the week off good it’s
that’s obviously how you staying so fit
mate right in that sand it is hard work
but it’s so much fun especially after
the rain we’ve had you can’t ride
anywhere else yeah of course of course
that’s about it I got five more days off
so wait and see what happens so with
your with your bike riding is it just
still a hobby for you like the Motocross
this you know riding in the scene and
that it is I’ll do um the Hat desert
race this year so there is something to
to work towards because it it like doing
um longer rides like 30 40 minutes in
the sand you need something to sort of
keep keep you rolling so I will do that
and a couple of other uros throughout
the year but racing isn’t as busy as it
was handful of meetings a year I still
enjoy it that’s enough yeah yeah y yeah
on that sand mod will C your fit real
quick yeah yeah it’s good fun yeah yeah
have you got your long track bike fix
from BST yeah it’s sort of just sitting
back in the corner with um motocross
gear hanging on again it’s it’s my
clothes line most of clothes rack yeah
but um yeah I’ll get around to looking
at it I think the Aussie titles next
month but I’m not going to be able to do
it yeah right okay and it’s at North
Brisbane which isn’t a long track it’s
like you know like stop Corners
basically so it doesn’t really me to go
yeah okay you know what’s so at Darcy’s
track yeah so you know the Speedway
track you go further down further down
and it’s like a super tight Corner
Corners two and three of the Speedway
track where the air fence was they just
moved that aside concrete start down
into that stop Corner yeah no thanks
yeah right too old yeah
yeah did they put choke Chasers with you
uh no it would just be a long track yeah
they candle that so it doesn’t happen
anymore yeah okay about five or six
years ago really yeah yeah that’s a real
shame yeah and on tracks like that
that’s probably where it would be
interesting on a long track you’re
obviously going to like it would keep it
even on that own track like that yeah on
a showr it’s pretty it’s it’s unfair
someone who’s good on them is going to
leave a CH Chaser but on a track like
that it’ probably be pretty good to
watch really yeah I know Darcy ran a
slider around he might have won an
Aussie title actually on a 250 round
there he got round real good I think
it’s on YouTube yeah okay soz I wouldn’t
mind seeing that
yeah well was last time you rode a Chuck
Chaser especially on a track oh like
forever ago yeah when the dinosaurs were
still around I think oh Jesus no I can’t
remember back in the back in the ‘ 80s
yeah back in the ‘ 80s jeez well it
sounds like you need to find yourself a
dirt bike and um go out riding with
James and Keith but sounds I know we’re
on tomorrow supposedly that’s what I’m
hearing you you need to get my into the
sand mate he’ll be walking um he won’t
do it I tried to hit him up today really
he’ll be uh walking in on 45 on Friday
night do you do you remember the Kazo
Chris Watson era I it was before me so
when I started cazo wasn’t writing and
but Dad used to tell me stories about it
yeah and then he made a comeback when I
was still in juniors okay and then I met
him and then we become really good
friends I train he trained me and doily
for a couple of years and um but when he
first started no he was Mia on racing
and then he made a bit of a comeback but
I heard all about it did he did he have
a couple of years Hiatus or something
did I guess he did yeah I’m not really
100% sure and Paul’s you have to get
Paul on on the Paul’s got a mate as far
as local guys you know we talk about you
now Chad rud and Craig Anderson and um
Casey stonner all the the hunter boys
over the Paul cas’s got an amazing story
as well yeah yeah yeah it’s it’s Paul
probably our best dirt track M cross
rider ever easy down is there an
argument there that you could honestly
say that he’s probably the best
motorcycle rider produced here that
never went professional a motorcyclist
be in the conversation a handful a
motorcyclist you know um oh yeah for
sure for he was talented I I started
many bikes with Paul and went through
the ranks but those that era with um
with W there was W myself boisey mckp y
Ro were’re all on the sliders y Steven
Davies and then you had Paul
Klick the row boys um there was a lot of
them slipp my mind now white house but
Raman Terrace well even Raman Terrace
wasn’t just the oil tracks Paul could
even compete with the sliders at the
Raman Terrace yeah just few of the tight
corners but when we went to like Mary
bar and gadar and these tracks that were
had oil it was pretty spectacular you
hear B on the boards flat because
Chris’s pretty game oh yeah had you know
kazak drifting in on the oil and you
know he would have been a great um Road
r road
racer he the way he used to turn the
bike in right but um yeah that was a
good error mate that was a really it’s a
shame that’s not happening anymore yeah
I know he’s U making a comeback too I se
yes good on him yeah yeah it’s it’s a
shame us being our wage we have missed
that like that that 80s 90s dynasty of
of writers and especially when they
would mix the two the two chook chases
and Sliders together if I I’ve seen
footage of when you were young and it’s
yeah I just wish I was old enough back
then I wish I was around back then to to
really appreciate it them days with the
sliders versus the M crosses on the same
track at the same time was was was
awesome some of the best days I’ve ever
had yeah I I back in those days it I
really wasn’t involved in Speedo
obviously but then but it on power
Speedway yeah easily easily on power
Speedway yeah yeah it’s a shame and do
do the grass trackers in the long
trackers in the UK and and in Germany
where it’s big do they earn are they
professional do they earn good money not
professional like Speedway no right okay
no no a lot of the no you get the
professional Riders well not so much
today but in you know the 90s ‘ 80s 90s
early 2000s you still had Wiggy and tatm
skoy yeah they would cross over and go
back to the long track and Gass track on
on their Sundays but po sort of put a
stop to that when Poland come in the
speedway on Sundays and started offering
the big money well it sort of like sort
of killed TR long track and grass track
in Europe for for the for those top guys
yeah it’s still running yeah but um yeah
it’s sort of yeah the profile dipped a
bit James you riding long track did you
ever do grass track is there a grass
track in Australia no they don’t run it
at all no yeah right is that something
you would would do or it doesn’t
interest me now to be honest I had plans
of of going over and doing some meetings
go over and help some of the guys but it
just never happened yeah okay it’s hard
with with work and everything I had to
make it was either stop the minds and go
do something like that but yeah like
Todd said there’s not you can’t make a
living off it yeah that’s fair and you
never did you you I think you said you
did one long track meeting or something
no I did I’d done a grass track in what
grass track was it yeah in London just a
small one it was more or less a big
Speedway oh okay but there was no
massive names there it was just a bit of
a fun day right um yeah how didd you
feel with the adjustment it was easy I
was on yeah I was James I was on it was
me first or second year all right I was
only 19 year old or something yeah okay
so you just didn’t give a [ __ ] you been
doing a bit of it anyway yeah well I’d
come from this background the dir track
here in Australia so same [ __ ] yeah I
can’t remember whose bike it was I don’t
know if it was go or an humph I’m I’m
not sure but yeah I I um it was just a
bit of a long Speedway track but I don’t
think it was real grass like it wasn’t
that hard for me at the time yeah it it
wasn’t a a plowed potato field no not
when you watch you see Joe screen you
follow screwy no I don’t I did see that
follow scy on Instagram cuz he was one
of the best yeah yeah I’ve seen on he’s
brilliant he’s posting his old videos
all the time looks terrifying when it’s
R I’m just just looks like it’s taking
you for right don’t [ __ ] that that’s
they just hang off the back of it but
then Mark but then there’s BLS like like
Wiggy Robert b g r they make it look
like they’re riding a Speedway bike on a
slick track like they make it look
smooth like I don’t I don’t get how they
do it no I I don’t know that might I
struggle to hang on to a SP bike for 60
seconds and I watch these guys do four
five six laps on grass and they’re just
like the bike’s just out of control and
they’re just manhandling It Marvin Cox
was another one Peter car yeah amazing
Sport and screen is still po and his old
videos I love to watch him yeah yeah
they’re pretty brutal and like you know
I it’s still cool to see like Chris
Harris still dabbles in a bit of long
track you know Martin smolinsky they’re
two boys that do the crossover that that
ride both at the moment he’s a bulldog
isn’t he that suits him down to a t
abely absolutely yeah 100% And he got
second in the world championship last
year did okay behind smolinsky Y and I
don’t think I don’t think um Chris
Harris is very young either like he he’d
be pushing 40 yeah yeah yep probably
pushing 40 also this has just come to my
mind now I’ve just completely forgot
about it is the wild card has been
announced for the end of the month for
the Croatian Grand Prix ah okay give us
some tips speaking of 40y olds they’ve
put in MADD Zar oh yeah well that that
they’ve done that every year haven’t
yeah was he last year he was last year
but you know I’m kind of came out say I
I don’t I don’t really like it that much
no well I just feel like you do you want
to put in maybe sum someone bit younger
uh Anders and I spoke last week about um
what sort or it might have been you
James two weeks ago when we were talking
about what incentive do we give the sgp2
winner the young kid you know maybe do
you put him in as a wild card for a
Grand Prix the following year maybe a
Croatia who hasn’t got a representation
from that country I think Matas chernak
would have been a great choice you know
I love M zga he’s been great for the
sport I just think he’s 41 now like bu
it’s a business for the yeah like a like
a Nick SC who’s a younger Slovenian or
my cus or think my Kus might be I don’t
know I just just a bit odd I thought
surely a he’s been around a minute it’d
be like giving Chris Harris the the wild
card at the Cardiff Grand Prix yeah you
know what I
mean Maddie will bring people no he will
yeah Slovenia is right next door yeah
that’s that’s what it’s all about isn’t
isn’t Italy on the other
side I think it’s a bit away ity I
thought I thought they I thought they
bordered each other or they’re right
they’re not far away yeah no ital’s on
the other side I think well you want to
throw Paco could you imagine flying
around there long as he wears his white
suit he would too he would too
absolutely yeah I just thought oh it’s a
bit interesting but I mean like he’s
he’s been at the top of he’s he’s an ex
worldclass writer for sure he was a top
five riter for a few years so yeah I
just thought oh just interesting I
thought they would have been going
towards the newer generation but
anywayss we did uh aners and I were
talking last week about um who was the
youngest world champion okay and the
youngest world champion in the Grand
Prix era the youngest world champion in
the world final era um and we did get uh
someone get back to us Kane got back to
us uh from the round the boards podcast
thanks mate for your info yeah Ty is the
youngest World Champion in 2013 he was
23 year old wow that’s cool 23 year old
the youngest world champion in the in
the world final era was Peter Craven at
21 yep and also Ronnie Moore was also
world champion at 21 but he was born a
few months later yeah right so 21 for a
world champion that’s um I’m getting the
calculator out what what do you want to
what are you looking up think how old I
was in 990 how old was oh 9 yeah of
course 68
so yeah I reckon you would have been
about you were 20 22 22 Yeah 22 Yeah
right oh you you well still Ru that race
yeah still still playing in your mind
yeah it does that burns a hole but Barry
brick said he said it was too he was too
young to win it if I did is that right
that’s yeah that was Barry’s advice then
and I get what he was saying you wish
wish she ignored it oh yeah no the night
was over by then but yeah yeah well and
another stat that came through with us
was um smck is the youngest grand prix
winner just an individual Grand Prix at
18 years old that’s cool hectic
absolutely and that it was his home
Gorge of he was a wild card y I remember
that and cuz there wasn’t there’s not
many wild cards that have won especially
an 18yearold for sure that’s unreal but
um speaking of world champions did you
guys see Do’s social media the other day
yeah that was good so what what for for
one what did he do in order for a fan to
to to send him that message I don’t
think he done anything I think he just
done well and he cops it I think from
what he told me he cops that [ __ ] all
the time and he just had enough and he
goes I think I’m just going to put them
on show today so good on him good on him
I love that I love that you you well you
didn’t have social media back then but
you probably had a few beer cans thrown
at you oh yeah you had I’ve had I was
saying to Logan what’s what do you got
there uh oh cuz he’s been sledged right
like sledging is through every single
sport like cricket players they Sledge
each other all the time footy this and
that and like you know you’ve got um you
got this fan telling Jason to go home to
Australia and milk of kangaroo that’s
different I had to read I had to read
that post a few times to get me head
around I liked how that he Googled it
and said I’m going to have to find a
pregnant one because they can’t they
can’t be milked unless they’re like us
yeah so good so good but I was just
thinking about that it’s like have you
you po ever been sledged or roll reverse
have you ever sledged anyone
else no oh I can think of a couple
examples but not really sledging but you
you go no I I don’t know either I you
talk about things FR out you yeah few in
Poland being chased out of the pits
security under the arm and Mom yeah um
get in the car in the in the van and and
take off out of the the stadium cuz the
the crowd were coming across and and
coming to get us that was Apollo yeah I
remember you know be beer bottles coming
over the fence and that happened to
Jason Crump at the world final the world
team remember Jason was talking about
that yeah yeah whether that’s sledging
at me or not but and then the other
thing I can think of is I would often
back in the early days um and I even
remember having an interview at at um by
one of the Swedish commentators big tall
fell from gothamberg forget his name but
I was always accused of you’re only a
gator so whether you call that sledging
or whatever you’re only a gat to Todd
you can you can’t pass that sort of
stuff and I used to love it but it like
we didn’t have social media so it wasn’t
as as bad as probably what as it is
today well the problem is with social
media now you’re never saying it to the
person’s face whereas back in the day
you you would either say it to their
face or don’t say it at all yeah that’s
it so yeah I get it and I I used my come
back to them all the time and at it must
have been it would have been in the
early 90s that remember Yano Peterson
was one of the quick Riders around at
the time but yo couldn’t gate oh okay
and he was also known bit like Martin he
was also known he could pass anybody
right he had to to win races I used to
say well bet Yan yo Peters would love to
be at a gate like me he wouldn’t have to
do all that passing yeah okay but um
yeah no that’s about anything I can
think of mate but again we didn’t have
social media so yeah wasn’t and and by
the looks of it doy would just froth on
that like he would just welcome that
sort of stuff it just would not in one
no I don’t think I don’t think it would
at all funny as funny as [ __ ] when he
screenshots it and shows all his
followers and they they’re Polish people
so their English is terrible and they’ve
obviously put their polish rant into
Google translate and then send it to
them and it’s funny as the [ __ ] that
they come up with and he um he swaps
around clubs in Poland a fair bit so he
cops a lot from the old fans and that I
think yeah you got a broad shoulders
don’t you oh yeah thick I thought of
that do again he don’t care well did you
see last year I think it was his first
meeting back he was Rod for lesno the
year before and then he hee there with
cros and then he gave gave him the
fingers he
RS I think he said it was like a
shitload of zotty too like it’s a big
fine that he that he CED I I think it’s
good it treats it as a business yeah
because once you’re done the the loyalty
is gone you know who your friends are
they’re not going anywhere dead right so
he treats it as a business I think it’s
smart but it’s any sport any club it’s
soccer it’s football like you know you
hear a lot of the time in the news here
with the NRL the club’s asking you to
take less money to keep the team
together and if you perform they’ll just
sack you anyway so it’s like what the
the Loyalty really just you’re out there
risking your life you’re riding a spoo
bike like make the Hy mate while you’re
there [ __ ] o especially these footy
players they’re they’re only that top
level for a handful of years and they
they’re out 35 and you’ll retired if you
make it to 35 you know at least SP
Riders are riding into their can R into
their 40s y but um yeah any examples of
of times where you’ve been sledged or
something like that oh there would have
been for sure I can’t nothing comes to
mine but you don’t get a bent nose like
this not being a
smarter that’s true but some something
um comes to mind is a couple of times
someone I’ve said it to you before
someone won’t talk to you all day you’re
just look at each other’s feet and then
you’ll get to a or something and then
they come up and they wish you good luck
and you know in their head they they’re
wishing you the worst and you’re just
like fck it’s like patronizing like
patronizing that’s the first thing that
comes to my mind I’ve had a few people
do that and then and then the race over
then you don’t talk again you’re just
like what was that yeah that’s sort of
it’s not sleding but n games maybe
that’s where they’re trying to pck you
out or something and that’s what they’d
be trying to do to you when they were
saying like yo you’re just a gator
they’re just trying to Psy you out and
because you bloody good they’re they’re
trying to get you off your game
competition mate yeah it’s it happens in
every sport it’s it’s happening now you
see the Masters is this weekend the golf
you got the Live players versus the PGA
players all coming in and of course yeah
so they all got their is it a bit
hostile is it oh just some of the
players some of their remarks they
they’re saying to each other it’s quite
quite funny but it’s it’s good for golf
gol live looks like it would be a good
day to go watch it I’ve never been in
the golf but you watch it looks like a
festival doesn’t it yeah that’s how
they’re promo how hard would that be
trying to hit a ball everyone’s
cheering fair play isn’t there a bee
hole or something where you as soon as
they swing it’s beer and music and
they’re all shaking the beers like it
just looks so much fun yeah have you
seen the um old made at live get the
hole in one and they just go nuts and
throw all the beer all over the ground
that’s off its head yeah it’s unreal we
should I think I tried to get to to go
to Adelaide last year for ander’s 30th
for the live tournament for the live
tournament I think couldn’t get him over
the line but yeah I’d love to do it I’m
30 this year just quietly yeah lucky
you maybe a quick maybe a quick live
golf trip somewhere yeah I’m okay
wouldn’t be half bad it would be good
but um uh I’m quickly going to grab
another drink do you just want another
drink no I’m good I won’t say no thank
you now Anders I have a question for you
what’s that where is the best place in
the world it’s got to be Lake mcari it’s
home for us it is yeah it’s our home
it’s the best place in the world it’s
beautiful weather yeah the lake is huge
yeah it’s amazing you can wakeboard you
can water ski yeah fishing fish for
those of you that love fishing you can
you can stand up paddle board you can do
any of these there so much to explore
and it’s in our backyard jet skis oh
those was the days remember those days
where we rip around go down the swansey
channel yeah go out the sand Islands
sunbake and then if that’s not enough
you can get out the heads and you can go
out in the ocean best place in the world
loved it now I feel privileged to be a
local to here yeah yeah but there’s a
lot of people that aren’t when it come
and experience it so they definitely
need to hit up Kyle and bian at Lake MC
Adventures because they’ve got all the
equipment you need to experience Lake
mcquarry like we have that’ be unreal
stand up paddle boards kayaks fishing
boats you name it Kyle and Banker have
got it I’d be jealous actually and a
great location too they’re only 5
minutes from Trinity Point down at Bell
Colin what’s the best way possible that
you would think to experience late mcari
oh get out there on the water get
actually out there and and look around
and experience it for yourself yeah hit
them up they they’ have the local
knowledge they’ll know everything about
the lake you get excited 100% And best
part is Kyle he will skiper the boat for
you too if you have not got your license
nice so he will take you around show you
the best spots in Lake mcari man we
should just go there now let’s go let’s
do it gosh I wouldn’t mind being um
sponsored by Great Northern it would be
good wouldn’t that be all right I think
I think I need a beer sponsor I would
love a be sponsor yeah right what um mar
mar would be nice they do a couple local
place is that up Port steevens Mar have
you been there not to the brewery you
would have been to Mar wouldn’t you no
oh you just got to put that on the list
yeah right awesome really yeah yeah big
massive deck and good food and it it you
could Nestle in there I think my had my
30th where a part on the way to the bay
on your left toil Bay on the way to
Nelson Bay oh yeah you go past the
turnoff Oakdale Farm keep going around
the corner and as before you hit or just
as you hit that 100 Zone it’s on the
left in there right yep we got up to the
Bay every year calling there on the way
through we might might have to make some
inquiries yeah for sure
yeah yeah talking to doly just going
back to to JD um you he is smart because
he doesn’t want to come back to
Australia and be a minor like us that’s
true get the money mate while you can
you come back and put the feet up mate
100% 100% And that’s probably why there
are a lot of BLS now riding into their
40s because what do you do otherwise
like what like apart from like I know
Greg was exceptionally talented into his
40s fully granted that’s unreal but you
know I’ve heard BLS of um like uh Gary
havlock riding into his 40s or or Kyle
stonehue or one of those guys and it’s
like well what else do you do you got
people people would struggle to settle
into normal life one thing with him is
but which are which I think with do is a
lot of guys have been lucky with
injuries and and gone through that area
with here and their breaks he’s broke
everything like he’s broke his neck
three times his feet are screwed
together and he’s still got the desire
to do it well he can still run most
people would would have threw the tail
in or be afraid to line up at the tape
spawn here and he’s still going yeah you
know what I mean that’s that’s what you
know impresses me and you just bringing
me back to the Pod last week we’re
talking about the the Grand Prix preview
I’ve got D just because of that attitude
I’ve got him as one of the main ones to
take it as Smet this year yeah still
yeah I agree him and Jack cuz Jack on a
high Jack holder and Ty wolfon if he can
sort sort himself out cuz Ty’s got a
good mindset as well but Do’s Do’s my
pick doly and Jason are my two uh doy
and Jack are my two to take it to smli
so he’s he’s he’s got a good mindset old
Jason he he’s hungry is he after doing
all that to himself and he started well
this year with the two one a meeting in
Poland second smck in the other yep in
in a tough field so he’s going well and
and if he hadn’t had if he hadn’t had
those Falls in those first two grand
pris last year the whole year would have
been different he was he was still the
gun last year this time last year those
two get finals well he got he crashed
out in both of them so he scored 14
points those two rounds if he won both
rounds there’s 12 points yeah he would
have made it all changes completely
changes all of a sudden smik misses out
on voy y it it yeah it would have been
doily pushing for a medal maybe not Jack
for example yeah so yeah oh he but he’s
so strong up here he is and on Jason
while we’ve got you James bevon has a
good M of does CU I I unfortunately
missed me and doly didn’t really cross
paths in our career as I was finishing
in ‘ 06 Jason was really just starting
in European racing yeah um and you and
so and I always thought he was a late
bloomer like he was maybe that was to
the world stage he he sort of come on
the stage of the late age but um so what
was J ‘s path to European Speedway was
younger than I thought was it he he went
all white when he was 19 he went a year
before Chris holder right and then when
Chris went over he um done a year with
Chris there and then I think he went to
pool after that yeah okay mhm but he was
going I think the year his first year in
Somerset if if he didn’t follow it you
wouldn’t notice but he had a cracking
year and it he was beating guys on the
world stage and then he done that
shoulder injury in mil Jura and then
that stuffed him for two years okay so
he had a year off and then I think he
didn’t go back over till halfway through
the next or something right okay so that
slowed things up a bit so yeah well so
that was that was the next question so
why why why sort of did he come to the
four at a later age if he started young
injuries was it yeah so he’s had a real
stop start to his career really injuries
yeah right y yeah okay yeah cuz he did
he sort of all of a sudden well he’s
Jason Doyle he’s in the world
championship well he debuted it in his
30s in the in the Grand Prix uh I think
he was like 28 or something that’s so
young you know really compared to say um
Dominic Caba who’s 24 yeah debing this
year um look at um SM won a Grand Prix
at 18 yeah you know so I think you say
to was 23 and that was in 13 so didn’t
race till the year after 14 I think was
his first year right and he was already
28 so I remember everyone thinking it
was quite a late a late start yeah so
and was he doing all the Aussie titles
in around that those years like that so
he was consistently coming back to
Aussie doing the Aussie titles like he
was pushing for those Grand Prix spots y
so he’s been he’s been driving to for
that goal this whole time y so I can
only imagine how he would have felt in
1 finally winning it at
32 33 yeah
like wow at his early stages he he would
go I remember because Chris was
basically winning everything y when and
doy would go through he done it that
many times it’s not funny he would win
the Heats and he’d do chiss up in the
Heat and you get to the final and he’d
be
fourth and if you looked on paper he’d
go unnoticed but if you were there at
the day you were like like he was the
quickest all day and then and threw it
away and then I don’t know something
click with him yeah
um I think it was Emily to be honest he
probably would admit it but yeah I think
so yeah okay he probably he probably say
different yeah sure um but something
clicked and it just it just all changed
yeah M did was he before he got with his
wife was he based in the UK permanently
or was he coming back to Aussie every
year back to Aussie every year but when
he started dating his wife was that
maybe he started he stayed over there
more yeah which you know I think you’ve
said in the past when you were hanging
to come home it was almost like the
season was dragging out too long whereas
these boys who base themselves in the UK
or or wherever in their country yeah and
they don’t come they don’t they’re not
hanging to come back to Aussie because
they’re so focused on yeah that that
title that world title y you know like
you said maybe that did have something
to do with it maybe yeah I I think he’s
just Happ just happy and settled and
yeah yeah but when you get him money
you’ll have to hit him up yeah we hit
him with so many questions but see I
also look at I look at the doily of of
2000 oh sorry of 200 uh he was 33 and
when did he win it 2017 I think that’s
where Jack is now he’s just so close so
close almost like he can he can taste it
Jason he should have won the year before
that’s true yeah that’s true well you
could argue You could argue that Jack he
dominated for two years where is that
murder I’ve asked this question a few
times he I think he’s kept that one but
he can he still he he doesn’t get
sentimental with him yeah right he I
know he used to name him he he like he
could he could probably he’d probably
win 30 races and one have a bad one and
[ __ ] see her I just th those couple
of years he used he could just point the
bike wherever he wanted and he would
just leave him M just leave him and then
I think might have been was it just one
year was it 18 he had bit of a bit of a
m and he I don’t know he might have
change I don’t know but I just keep
thinking where’s that 7ot where’s that 7
motor buddy put that back in I think
it’s retired I think it’s on the wall
I’ll have to ask him I’m pretty sure he
said it’s yeah is he blowing the dust
off it for this year and throwing it
back in he’s with the bve
now whatever yeah Dutch or something
that’s right I think ingr with him as
well maybe yeah I have seen him with
that matter I’d be look pretty quick at
the moment I’d be pulling that off the
wall me yeah you could help yourself
no anything to get you back into the
groove like winning again but in saying
that you used to get pretty attached to
him cuz you saved a couple didn’t you
was it well mix gr was was an old one
that you loved and you tried to save it
didn’t you yeah I did yeah yeah I said
that CL slash at the time cuz it
disintegrated it was a shame and I said
just I don’t care just stick it back
baby back get it get it back but I do
remember Chris Alder telling me that
when he won his World Championship in
2012 that he had that same motor it was
just you get these motors and they’re
just yeah they’re one one in million
sort of and you can’t explain it and and
sometimes engine tune I can’t explain it
yeah and how’s the he won it in the semi
and he blew that thing up in the final
the very next race oh was that at torren
he he he was leading the final and EXP
exp loed the thing this is Chris yeah
but he was already over the line he won
the race before won I’m with you I’m
with you now yeah yeah that’s right yeah
the controversy of Nikki yeah yeah yeah
yeah I bet you Chris would love that
murder back i’ I’d have it behind glass
still in a million pieces if it’s blown
up it just yeah you’d have to for sure
yeah but I I I definitely agree with
what you said before that doily is a he
will be a top Contender and it just goes
to show his results in this sort of
Polish preseason they laid up Swit he’s
killing it abely killing it yeah he’s
hungry and it’s pretty impressive with
his age that he’s still still that
hungry yeah so I think he’s going to
have a big year with G Johns this year I
think that the two Riders who stand out
who have got a lot of Threes next to
their name in in I’m meaning in race
wins and all the results is smick and
Jason D yeah sure you see everyone else
is dropping points even even the two
Russians who we know not in it who get a
lot of credit because fair enough course
they should be in the world championship
but they’re not but even those boys are
dropping points at the moment so I I
think uh last week is been on his ass a
few times and he never crashes is that
right he’s he’s come a gut a few times
and from what I understand there know
it’s a no fold of his own like like like
no one else’s fault but his own yeah
right he’s had a couple of spin-offs
that um meeting just recently the um
polish ex the extra Lea Riders
Championship like you said before James
it was a Grand Prix yeah yeah like Grand
Pre level y it had literally every
single every single number one and
number five from each polish Club pretty
much and um and because it was at wood
it uh I think Luke Becker sort of a
neutral ground yeah is that his track is
it that’s why he was in he was like he
was like the wild card because it was
his home home track y cuz wood isn’t in
the extra Lia it’s in the extra Liga 2
uh right I think smik went through the
card didn’t he uh he dropped twoo his
first first two races and then he won
everything after that I got do yeah okay
yeah
and so smik got 16 dropped two yeah um
doy got 14 he got second and then
lingren got third and where’s he uh you
got eight plus one uh uh nine sorry and
you know what that doesn’t surprise just
snuck in sort but but that doesn’t
surprise me because Freddy we’ve said it
before he doesn’t go through the five
Heat
in in the Grand Prix and goes 3 3 3 3 3
he’s a b but somehow puts it together he
he he’ll scrape into the semi and he’ll
come he’ll come second in his semi-final
by the skin of his teeth and he’ll go
out and win the final yep so that
doesn’t surprise me that he doesn’t he
hasn’t scored more than 10 points yep
but yeah so it was a semifinal two semis
to get into the final yeah um yeah so so
Maxi freck and Jack H made made the sem
yeah okay y they both got eight points
now Max got nine Jack got eight y Max
had two straight wins which would have
felt good in three straight thirds it’s
different so doy and SMY go straight in
and then the winner of the two of the
two semi winner of semi1 and the winner
of semi2 so not the top two in this
particular format yeah so which I don’t
mind something a bit different yeah but
see that that extra League Riders
Championship is just full of Grand Prix
Stars plus the the two the two Russian
boys that’s as hard as a Grand Prix
right there you could even say snof and
and lager in it it could even be harder
100% 100% Y without a doubt what about
the peirs meeting in
posan yeah where is that is that
happened y it did happen yeah Lublin won
it I think they they it be interesting
to see what they I don’t think smik
dropped a point there either no no but
it Jack only got one ride so Jack must
have been reserved and was was the
second Rider SM Caba yeah yeah and Jack
Annie got the one rides a bit of a shame
for him but yeah no you still see who’s
on form though don’t you and who’s not
who can you check the gujon score
because was the three Riders are three
Aussies or did they throw tereno in
there for
someone Les no posan Lublin torren Lor
Chester over rosoff oh so g in it no
interesting what did Ty score interest
Ty he wasn’t selected it was laguda buy
and yanoski okay yeah for rosoff yeah
okay and they used all three Riders
evenly and they all yeah all scored
right nine eight nine points each yeah
okay
yeah tell you what in in in these this
polish pre-season all these sparring
matches you know who’s been riding well
it’s Chris holder yes but ostrov he’s
been killing it I think they just put
Chester HOV to the sword
theyed him by about 15 20 points or
something so that’s always nice to see
and like Chris had a good year for um
Leo last year obviously with that injury
it was a bit stop start so now he’s come
back down to that extra Le of to and he
rode for Ostro the year previously yeah
so yeah and had a good year great year
so he’s going to replicate that well
let’s hope so Chris needs a good year
he’s too good not two yeah I know he’s
he has a talent mate he can ride a bite
that kid can he dear idea yeah for sure
y so and his and his younger brother
he’s he’s on the button this year I
really interest I’m going to keep a keen
eye on him I’m really really want him to
get a medal I really want him to win it
but his next step is at least a medal he
has to he he has to I think he’d be
disappointed if he didn’t yeah he he
definitely deserves it yeah um talking
about sledging oh Chris hter doesn’t he
he he gives it back to the fans yeah
I’ve seen some of his some of his
Twitter comments over the years yeah he
he don’t mind does he yeah he’s
good you see Jack gets into a bit too
Jack Jack don’t shy away from it
especially on the track I think I’ve
seen him and Leo Madson Clash a few
times yeah yeah Jack he care pushing
shoving does he absolutely don’t care at
all but then how funny is you got Max
Frick who’s same age po opposite yep po
opposite yeah he’s a gentleman Max is
and he’s quite a chever yeah yeah 100%
another real can ride a motorcycle
incredible yeah
absolutely yeah and I’ve actually got um
I’ve got the the press conference
interview for the three Aussie boys that
that I’ll play yeah definitely I think
we need to figure the positives and
figure about the negatives and just move
forward and it’s a new season we need to
up our game every year the the other
Riders do the same so we we know what’s
uh in in stall for us and we know need
to know that we’re going to be making
finals to to be getting medals at the
end of the year so that’s the main goal
make podiums and and get points
definitely and um what have you have you
changed anything going into this this
year I know you had made a lot of
changes last winter but going into this
year any any major changes no um done
the changes last year to to get where we
are now and yeah so pretty pretty simple
um same engine tuners same team around
me and and the same group of people that
I know so there’s a lot of trust and and
a lot of effort going into the side of
the year so we’re we’re looking good
that’s great and I’m going to come to
Max next Max um obviously maybe not the
quite the role you wanted in Speedway GP
it’s a strange one it could be that you
race some of the rounds half the rounds
maybe even all of the rounds we just
don’t know how do you kind of approach a
season like this um for me I just
approach everything the same as if I was
in the GP um and then if the Call Comes
that that I’m going to be in one then
I’ll just turn up ready uh and I take it
Race by race and you know when those
days come just try and make the most of
it I guess the thing with this is you’ve
been doing it for a few years now it’s
not as if um preparing for a GP
something new to you so I guess if you
did have to do it at the last minute
you’ve done it before I believe you’ve
been a reserve so um it is doable for
you yeah for sure I think you know we
have all the kit we have the bikes the
mechanics everyone’s waiting ready so um
I say if that day comes then I’ll be
ready if not then you know I get a
weekend off I guess and I’m going to
come down the line and talk about the um
Speedway Nations obviously defending
Champions the three of you won it
together um max very special night in um
in vo how how do you feel about
Australia’s chances of of hopefully
defending that title I think we have a
great chance you know it’s a track in in
the UK that you know a lot of us have
ridden out quite a bit before um you
know LMO uh obviously runs the place
there so um we have a really good chance
same as everyone else uh it’s a new year
um but I think Australia have a really
strong lineup for for this year and
Jason I’m hopefully excited to be part
of a very special team and one that
could well carry off the gold again yeah
it was a massive night obviously we
aimed for this uh for many years and
finally got the the gold medal for for
ourselves and LMO and it would be nice
to go back to back but uh it’s going to
be a tough one but yeah being me in
Manchester like Max said us boys ride
there a fair bit we know the track and
we know how hard it can be and and how
um it’s not a track to to be easily fast
on so I think uh it’s going to be a
tough tough competition and where we
know it’s going to be tough for for all
of us and Jack you um maybe’ had a
battle before then to get into the team
that was the year you got your chance
and my God you took it it was um you
couldn’t have kind of made a better
debut than that yeah for sure it was um
it was definitely uh U one of my best
highlights of my career so far you know
got a gold medal around your neck it was
pretty cool feeling and um yeah and then
obviously looking into this year you
know it’s always harder to back it up
but um yeah you know we’ve we’ve Rod
there before
and it’s a team’s event so you know you
just need to uh know last places and
stick together as a team and I think you
know Australia is pretty good at that
excellent um we’re going to throw the
floor out to any questions now so um if
you would like to ask a question please
raise your hand and on electronically
obviously and we will come to you and um
open the floor to
you so does anyone have a question for
the Aussie Riders we can start with Adam
please yes hello everyone
uh I got a question for yon you will not
race in Sweden this year can you tell me
about that
decision yeah it’s uh pretty simple one
well there’s two reasons
really uh the the the main one is the
the flying from England and back it’s a
it’s a logistical nightmare at the
moment for us guys what we’re riding in
England on a Monday to try to get back
for for Thursday it’s a three-day event
and also as you know the the money has
dropped a lot in Sweden and we can’t
make it uh payable to to be uh to be
racing in Sweden so it’s it’s a sad
thing really because we uh we love
racing in in Sweden it’s an enjoyable
League to be riding um we always enjoy
ourselves we’re not got as much pressure
when we go there as we do in in Poland
and uh yeah so that’s the main reason
it’s more the logistic side to it with
flying I understand will it effect you
in any ways you think that you’re not
racing in Sweden during the season or
have you found um yeah other chances to
race you think or how you look at that I
think it’s going to make it better to be
honest because I’ll be at home a lot
more and and can do other things and and
obviously train and and not be so tired
I done 93 three meetings last year so
I’ll cut that back and and kind of just
uh concentrate on the the main ones
which is the Grand Prix so yeah that be
I’m I’m hoping it’s going to be better
for me
yeah thank you and I got a question for
Yak as well
um what in your opinion what’s the most
important thing to to build on during
this season to to be able to grab a
medal um like I said before mate just
you know turning up at every G Prix and
uh doing your best and uh yeah stay
injury free um and just be you know
consistent throughout throughout the
whole year you know it’s all confidence
and um when you’re on a high you you
feel Unstoppable but when everything’s
uh you know a bit iffy you know it’s
quite tough to to get out of that rut
but um yeah just stay healthy and see
everyone
there thank
you thank you um do we have any any any
more questions from the rest of um our
guests please raise your hand if you
want to ask a
question or finger or
finger
anybody thank
you okay um if no one has any further
questions I guess we can we can leave it
there with the Aussie group so um oh M’s
got another one I think oh Adam yeah
we’ll come back to
you sorry um aradius we’ll come to you
if you got a
question
hello I have one question for all of
guys B SMS Le is machine or man to beat
what do you
think
machine he’s beatable he’s definitely
beatable um you know I think we’ve all
beat him before um he just you know just
turns up he’s got good equipment
everything’s going good around him you
know he’s been injury free for a while
um and yeah you know he just he’s
definitely riding a wave at the for a
long time yeah but like Jack just said
he’s he’s he’s not Unstoppable he’s
obviously the best in the world and uh
he’s the man to beat he’s got that
pressure on him and we just got to chase
him down and and hopefully uh we can do
that this
year yeah I think he’s um you know been
Brien so well last few years he’s world
champion for a reason um but you know
we’re all chasing him and that’s the
spot we all want so um you know he’s out
there like everyone else he’s a
competitor and and we all want to beat
them okay thank you there is a question
in the chat uh Paul
okay we’ll just come to um Adam first
and then we’ll read the question we’ve
received in the chat
Adam yes I got a question for all of you
uh what JP do you look forward to to the
most Australia
yeah
yeah our home gr pre which doesn’t
happen every year no I
understand no they they’re all pretty
special in in now I guess for us guys to
be in any Grand Prix it’s never it’s
like a dream come true so uh go
obviously for for myself he’s Cardiff
when there’s no Australian Grand Prix um
we’ve got a lot of fans what back is
there and the atmosphere is
amazing you pretty much just said it
yeah I think do pretty much covers it
and then also for me I think I’ve won a
couple of GPS in Poland they get a lot
of you know a heap of people there so
it’s pretty cool some like wall that’s
full uh a huge stadium and full uh it’s
a pretty cool atmosphere to to go out
and ride a
GP yeah thank you exent we’ve also had a
question on the chat from man Manuel I
think I know the answer this this is for
Jason um you obviously took your spot in
the GP series by um winning the GP
challenge um he’s asked is that a route
you intend to take this year or I’m
guessing you might prefer the top six
route no I don’t have a uh a GP
qualifying spot um I chose not to go
back to Australia and do the Australian
titles um because I want to do it on me
own merits this year and top six is uh
is the goal for this year to well it’s
not six it’s to be on the podium so
that’s that’s me main goal and I’m here
to to be on on on the on the top of the
podium in Grand pris and also at the end
and he’s also asked um that you had a
great first half of the Season maybe the
form dropped a bit in the second half of
the Season can you give some idea as to
to what happened in the second half yeah
we uh we started so well but Al also we
uh we then got confused when the the
weather changed we uh went the wrong way
and obviously we’ learned hard from that
and we need to yeah just carry on um
what we know for for this year and and
yeah that’s it really there’s not really
much to say other than what happened
last year is gone now and don’t have to
worry about it absolutely we’ve had a
question question for Jack from Manuel
as well he’s asking um you got on the
podium five times in in 2023 um how
hungry are you for that to add that
first win to your CV I get guess you
sense it’s coming yeah of course um but
you know as I said I’m happy to of
course I really want to you know win a
Grand Prix but you know ID take podiums
in all 11 of them then you know just win
one and not be on the podium um it’s
obviously a cool feeling you know
standing up there at the end of the
night on the on the podium but um yeah
that win will come when it’s when it’s
ready I suppose and he’s also asked why
didn’t you take part in the F moia
championship at
Gilman had other things to do oh
okay I guess yeah and um you want to
drive 18
hours I guess people do forget that it’s
not exactly Round the Corner some of
these tracks 55 hours for the aie titles
I didn’t want to add it again exactly
that’s fair enough and um one for Max
Frick as well um you had a better season
in 20 than you did in 22 um just missed
out on a wild card um did you think you
would be in with a better chance of a
wild card in light of um the better
performance you had last year um not
really I never really expect to get a
wild card um I understand the position I
was in the GPS not being in the top six
uh and knew it was going to be tough so
I did everything I could um to try and
put myself in the shot window let say um
you know even doing the last GP with the
broken wrist just to try and you know
keep my position of where I was at um in
the championship um but yeah it wasn’t
enough so uh at the moment I’m heing to
First Reserve if I get the opportunity I
want to go and show that I deserve to be
there um and if not then you know
hopefully I can do well in the GB call
high and look for next year there are
some riders in history who have actually
turned down a reserve births I mean was
it a difficult decision for you or you
always thinking no I’ve got to give this
a try um no I think you got to make the
most of every opportunity you’re given
um and that’s just one of these
opportunities of course um you know it’s
a bit of a um bit a pill when you get
the call up and you’re not in the GPS
next year but um you know take the mo
make the most of the opportunities we
given and hopefully um you know we put
them to good use this year excellent um
just going to throw the floor back open
to any questions does anyone else have
any more questions if so please raise
your
hand
just looking to see if we’ve got any
more
um it appears
not so do you and the misses go camping
often not as much as we’d like it gets a
bit hard like you know you drive x
amount of hours down there to wherever
you’re going then when you get there you
got to set up the tent it’s heavy it’s a
big bastard yeah pull it out yeah being
there done there set it up Pitch your
tent you know then it’s windy and it
never packs up the same way you got it
out I don’t know one person that’s
actually set up a tent and then put it
back in exactly how no no they just
never happens that is actually not a
thing it’s impossible I I I genuinely
dislike the whole even the 302 tent
thing that come out a few years ago even
that bit of a it went up quick but
getting it back in the bag was no and
then there’s fights yeah there’s dramas
there’s like there’s like breakups over
it it’s [ __ ] surely There’s A Better

and they slowly get easier I’m going to
do it a bit different I’m going to give
you a couple of Clues and that’s it and
then I’ll ask the question like then
I’ll ask you to have a guess if you get
it right well that’s three points for
the first clue okay if you don’t get it
right then I’ll I’ll go to the next clue
and they get gradually easier if you get
it right after the second clue you get
two points third clue one points one
point so I’ll go what are you asking
both of us or you ask one of I’ll ask
Dad one oh you’ve got your own one as
well okay all right so can we look up
here or is yeah yeah you can look up
here can I Sledge Todd while your
absolutely go for it go for it you’re
just a
gator right what do we got here I just
got to find it sh there’s some scores
here
righto R Dad this is your first
clue I was born in
1981 my professional Speedway career
started in ‘ 98 and retired in
2011 in
2000 I finished 10th in the world under
21 championships God in Poland I have
roded for a total of seven British
clubs so this is obviously harder it
gets easier yeah so if you can you have
a guest now and I won’t tell you if it’s
right or wrong no country no nothing no
Brian Anderson right Brian Anderson from
Denmark lock that in
I am a three time uh National under 21
champion in my
country I also rode for Ross pagana in
2006 and 2008 and Leo in 2007 and
2008 I spent most of my British career
riding for kingslin for a total of six
years they’re good Clues
um
Ross piga
2628 still a bit
late
um
Neils Christian ion but no I don’t know
he’s still
riding retired in 11 yeah sleding yeah
get get into me into him into him right
oh I just showed you the answer there I
won the Victorian Championship five
times consecutively which broke the
previous records of four straight held
by Lee Adams and Phil
Crump I also represented Australia in
the 2006 World Cup final yeah it all
makes sense now
yeah yeah who am I it’s um Travis
McGowan it is Travis McAllan it is yeah
and now I think I can I don’t remember
Travis at lesno I do at Ross pagana and
obviously at Kings ly this is according
to Wiki yeah sure so do not shoot the
messenger if this is wrong you done a
teams event with him didn’t you yeah
in the World Cup
for but he was only in the final he
wasn’t in the we had Rory schlim was in
the the rib in in the semis with us yeah
qualifiers yeah um and he was a three
time under under three time Australian
under 21 Champion yeah there you go I
didn’t know that of Travis that’s pretty
cool yeah and that would have been uh
like maybe in the late ’90s yeah I’d say
mm mhm I’d say but um yeah 6 years at
Kings ly I knew he rode for Kings ly I
just didn’t realize it was that long but
he um he was he was good around reading
I remember seeing him very good yeah and
and that’s why he got that spot in that
World Cup team because that Grand Prix
that that World Cup was ready TR at that
final um J been some good riders coming
out of mil jur haven’t they hasn’t they
the best the go it’s only just a little
town mhm and there’s just so many there
a production line yep like it’s
ridiculous well you you think why it’s
their setup their Club you got that
little truck in the middle yeah it’s
awesome yeah keeps the tracks in the
bush to ride y yeah 100% nothing else to
do well I’ve heard I’ve heard LMO and
Jason Crump they say that they all they
do is either ride Speedway or water ski
or water ski yeah that’s the two things
that they do yeah yep right James now I
have picked someone who I’m assuming I
think you’ll be you should I reckon you
should get this how were you on James
did you pick up before me who it was I
had for some reason I had Adam shields
in my head for half of it and then I got
it at the end right yeah for sure right
born in
1987 my professional career started in
2015 I have ridden for 13 clubs in the
UK six clubs in Poland four clubs in
Sweden and three T three clubs in
Denmark I am a two-time Australian long
TR track
Champion right that’s your first clue I
got two people in me head at the
moment well you can only have one I was
I’ve written 13 clubs in the UK
six clubs in PO on four clubs in Sweden
well I’m thinking don’t you I know I got
two one’s from Queensland and one’s from
New South Wales right well you can have
a G have a guess now because if you
guess it right now then you get three
points
have a the
[ __ ] Troy Bachelor all right Troy
bachelor’s locked
in I am an Australian solo champion and
I am an eight time state champion my
highest finish at world champion
Championship level was fourth at the
under 21 World Championships in 2008 in
part of bits I have reached the podium
on two occasions at Grand Prix level
yeah I’m sticking with me guess stick
with Troy Bachelor oh you don’t you
haven’t I was a permanent GP Rider in
2014 and 15 I’m currently riding for
workington comets and I spent nine years
with Swindon Robbins there you go well
done James I am Troy Bachelor well done
I got plenty of points don’t I did yeah
maxed out who was your other writer
Chris holder Chris holder yeah of course
yeah cuz they’d be similar age similar
similar ages are both Australian long
track Champions is that did Chris do
long track as well yeah I think he only
won one but I thought uh I thought Troy
only won one senior one as well but
that’s what Stu me but on knew it was
one of the two yeah okay again this is
all just from Wikipedia so how accurate
that is yeah but yeah now and he is
still currently riding and I 13 clubs
he’s been aroundc around what he was
racing man he was good when he first do
you remember cuz you you were making
your comeback and he just sort of coming
through and he was [ __ ] Qui for a
16-year-old do you you remember well he
he I went up to Queen North Queensland
to air remember start of 06 I come back
yeah okay yeah I think sto Dave stens
going to come up with me and Troy was I
think Dad went with him I think you’re
right yeah I think so I think you’re
right I don’t know and was Troy there
was he yeah yeah Troy was going he would
have been he would have been at swinden
by then surely no he wouldn’t have been
overseas I don’t think then well it says
here his professional career started in
‘ 05 oh maybe so maybe he done what one
year yeah maybe so he probably just come
back from his first year like red hot
yeah I’d say yeah yeah I think it was
was your dad what I don’t even know so
was I whose BX was I
writing probably mine yeah I’m thinking
that I can’t remember I was probably at
home crying about
it wishing you were there yeah no you
probably were I can’t remember
oh there you go yeah yeah I remember
Troy was gone he was he was he was good
that night I also read this is on Wiki
too I don’t know the accuracy in this
but I saw that Travis mcgaan has started
his
own Shovelhead Racing League you know
what shovelheads are no idea Harley is
they’re an old school Harley he started
a Harley Racing League I think on
Speedway tracks like you know how they
do in the in the US oh yeah apparently
Travis is is like the president of it
like the huligan sort of thing yeah i’
I’d love to do a bit of extra um
research on it but yeah something
interesting very good could be good fun
good all right now this next game that
I’ve got is something that I’m trialing
I’ve never done it before and I want to
sort of test it on you guys and I’m
going to be a part of it too right so
James to your left there you got a
couple of kids books oh yeah just use
the kids books for your um for for the
back like to so you know put a hole in
the paper so give Dad one and take one
sheet of paper do you want the Gir book
or the dinosaur
to I’ll give you the dinosaur thank you
m and on the on the chair there sorry
James you left us a couple of pens we’re
going to
play Speedway categories have you ever
heard of Speedway categories I don’t
know what a category is Right Speedway
categories is look so you’ve got all
these questions like all these
statements in front of you right you can
have a quick read through them they’re
just a bike part A brand a Grand Prix
venue a club or a track name an
Australian riter blah blah blah right so
now we’re gonna pick a letter at random
oh yeah and we’ve got two minutes to
fill just with Y just to fill in right
and obviously you get one correct you
get a point yep but if I get one if I
say an answer and you say the same
answer we don’t get a point we cancel
each other out all right so it’s who has
the most points at the end of it say the
first bit again so a bike part Give an
example so for example if we pull out
the letter A that’s the the a that we
got to name 10 things with the letter A
starts with a letter A so for example um
a Grand Pre like or a bike part what’s a
bike part that begins with a for example
air filter air filter yeah you write
down air filter but if I write d a
filter and you write down air filter no
one gets a point gotcha but if I write
air filter and you write air filter and
dad writes um can’t tell you yeah
whatever but the yeah right the aim is
to get something different exactly right
so even though air filter might be the
obvious choice maybe try and think of
something else so the idea is to get um
MH don’t give it to me I’ll cheat all
right um Google the letter and then bike
parts
exactly exactly all right give it to us
all right H H is the letter now hang on
I’m going to do a timer we’ve got two
minutes two minutes what oh for the
whole thing two minutes h all right hang
on oh and in Speedway categories only
one two three
[Music]
go I’ve missed so many I was stuck on
the first one for for 20 seconds two
minutes is a long time for one thing but
now so the rules of this game is there’s
obviously going to be some stupid
answers so we collectively either agree
or not agree that it’s a correct answer
all right you get what I mean I missed
it for you what’s something you would
say to your mechanic after you run a
last you run a last oh I didn’t mean to
say it twice oh right like like what’s
something you would say to your mechanic
when You’ just run a l and you’re pissed
off [ __ ] off but that doesn’t begin with
h yeah right so I actually I’ve missed a
couple I get there’s four I didn’t get
okay but
yeah right now like I said because
there’s no exact answers we just sort of
if it’s funny and it’s not right we’ll
just agree as a collective whether it’s
right answer or not all right James what
was your first one handlebars perfect
what do you have I had a head a head
motor the head of the motor oh oh that’s
true well had a hex nut will you will
you give me that [ __ ] I thought all of
you would had ear
bars give yourself a tick give yourself
a tick all right CU we’ve all got
different answers that are all correct
yeah Ro right a brand HL clutch plat
harushi oh same [ __ ] same thing are they
no they’re different different company
different brand but yeah that’s same
give yourself gives you both ack I
didn’t I got nothing I couldn’t think of
[ __ ] anything um a Grand Prix venue
Hors yeah I put Hors as well that’s
[ __ ] great answer but yeah I didn’t
have anything either we we don’t get
nothing because we no T is there any
other is that did you have any others
horses Grand that’s denark isn’t it yeah
yeah right I couldn’t think of one no I
don’t know right so that’s a cross cuz
we both cross yeah a club or a track
name I didn’t get that one I didn’t I
think there’s a Danish Club isn’t there
called holstead holstead y holstead
Tigers I had holic yep in Sweden y
Sweden a Teck an Australian riter Harry
Ryan [ __ ] so did
I I got a point what’ you get Dave
hamnet oh yeah okay yep
perfect all right Scandinavian
Rider I missed the next two really H
Anderson no who do you have I’ve got
hanker hson of course another tick [ __ ]
both easy ones are [ __ ]
up uh a Grand Prix
Rider we could have had hanker there as
well well did you have the same for both
no I had Hans neelson yeah that’s good I
had Eric hle yeah okay that’ll do
that’ll do you missed both of them
B right something you find in a Rider’s
toolbox or a mechanic’s toolbox I wrote
well I broke two down but I wrote hard
facing fist steel shoe yeah fair enough
ah yeah that’s I never would have
guessed it I just I just put yeah a
Hammer Hammer perfect I had hand tools
good is that acceptable we all get a
point
yeah something you’d find in a Rider’s
kit
bag nothing it yeah I put this helmet oh
I put hard
solo for after the meeting yeah hey
can’t argue with it um I had I didn’t
know what to write down I panicked I
wrote down
handkerchief did you ever have a
handkerchief in you that’s a iffy one
James go to a vote it’s a hard no yeah
yeah I got to the showers to cry
yeah true um a Polish Rider I didn’t get
one no I can’t remember this his whole
name he’s he was my his surname was
Huska or husar or something yeah I can’t
confirm I can’t confirm I would I would
not have a clue yeah oh actually he’s
probably even older than me but
yeah can you can you confirm it or I can
I give you a point or not are are you
confident yeah I’m pretty confident all
right give yourself a point yeah um
where the purple
flag I I’ll Google it and show you okay
something you would say to your mechanic
after you run a
last no I didn’t put anything I didn’t
have anything either I could think of
lots of things that you’d say but
nothing starts with h no like like don’t
say a [ __ ]
word you get on the bike and show me
then you freak [ __ ] like
that few of them got thrown around a bit
I about to say you’ve been on the
receiving end of a few of those sounds
of it oh yeah no just get something
thrown at me uh and the last one which I
struggled this one to is what’s a common
Speedway saying something that people
say a lot in interviews or whatever
oh what’ you put harden up yeah yeah
that do I just as a saying I I I just
wrote a single word as heavy meaning the
tracks heavy track heavy yeah okay yeah
I just I just like when when I’m
thinking of um when an interview when an
interviewer is talking to a rer they say
you find tonight and I just said hard
racing tonight so we all get one there
um I reckon that’s that’s all pretty
good well I did not do anywhere near as
good as I thought I was going to I
should have got that harushi clutch
plates that’s yeah spewing yep but see
then and then next week we you just
change the letter and then it it it
makes it all completely different so you
can use the same 12 things H was hard I
think that’s very hard very hard who’s
who’s Hol viic which which Swede Club is
that that’s the place that’s not the
club is piger isn’t it it’s Ross piger
yeah it is too it is too holic so take
that one off yeah
so that’s the only one I got so one two
three four five six I only got six out
of 12 yeah I got the same six
[ __ ] what you have uh 1 two 3 4 5 6
Seven 8 nine 10 stop it 10 obviously he
was the ex-professional
Jesus absolutely Andre hushka I think
his name is a hushka I’ll give it to you
I trust you Andrew hushka maybe I’ll
find it yeah I don’t there’ll be people
listening probably thinking about they
or they’re yelling out 10 10 polish
riders with this with the H name someone
come in with e pronunciation please a
Polish riter [ __ ] it uh Yar hample I
can’t believe I didn’t think of helmet
in my kit bag yeah how did I come up
with handkerchief SP Riders don’t
cry absolutely
SP bit of a segue now to talking
speaking of Harry Ryan he has his um
fundraiser on Saturday the 11th of May
um RSVP by the 3rd of May East SN
Bowling Club just a fundraiser to try
and get him overseas because he come
third in the or in the top three in the
Australian under 21s y so he’s going for
the under 21 World Championship so just
looking for a bit of backing because um
it’s obviously a huge cost as absolutely
both of you guys know so um yeah guys if
you’re interested uh in supporting Harry
yeah get down to East SN Bowling Club um
yeah it’s I’m I’m Keen to go Keen to get
down there just to support him which
would be good he’s he talented he’s a
talent absolutely nice guy too know any
info is he got where’s he going to next
year you know I do know I just can’t
[ __ ] remember now as in the club no
no like where where’s his champ where’s
his world championship qualifies at okay
I think I got a feeling it’s it’s this
year yeah this year I think it’s in part
of bits that could be wrong it’s it’s
all on the Facebook he’s got it Facebook
he love that oh yeah yeah big awes track
that Harry will just mil that y yeah so
no guys keep keep an eye out for that if
you want to get down and support Harry
um would be um unreal and the the king
king of peirs at NEP and that the
speedway experience is putting on boisey
and and Mick holder and looking to be a
bit of a cracking meeting on the 27th of
April down at nean I would love to be
going but that is literally smack bang
between my wedding and the honeymoon yep
okay like wedding’s on the 24th we’re
leaving on the 29th to go to the
honeymoon yeah so I will not have time
to get down to the will I I’ll be at
work yeah Miss Logan won’t won’t let you
go sneak off not I’m not going to push
it speaking of which behind James that’s
her wedding dress right there
oh you’re not allowed to look at that no
that’s why it’s covered up oh okay but
we wanted to keep it out of the way of
the kids and the Pod room is the only
place that the kids are not allowed to
go yeah okay fair enough so if you turn
around I’ll slip into it quickly for the
viewers we’ll give them give him a pee
somehow it won’t have the same effect
though no I don’t think I don’t think
it’ll fit you quite as nice yeah I know
I’m talking it up I won’t fit in that
but but you would you would look good
you would look good but anyways guys
that’s it
that’s all got that’s all oh you did you
want to ask something about you want to
ask Dad something about I did actually m
i was um I was sitting home thinking
about about this the other day
so I spoke to a a couple of guys and
they’re trying youed they were telling
me some different parts so I know Do’s
gone to a belt a belt drive system which
is good and um is just this year yeah
using the belts y he’s just gone on and
he’s happy with them yeah good yeah and
I um when to was over in summer he was
telling me um he’s changed to scandic
clutches I think this is all open so I
don’t think it’s any secrets sure so my
question is and just just something that
I’ve I’ve observed is these guys are
trying these things belts have been
around for however long I was using them
10 years ago on Long track yep the
scanic clutch hasn’t changed since 10
years mhm they’re all using the same
carbies they have been for 10 years like
I’ve got a brand new Blicks carb it’s
the same as the old one it’s just new
yep my question to you is where what do
you think is going to come in that’s
going to change the sport because I
see the same old um technology going
around in circles even the the baby
offsets I believe there were short
Strokes real short Motors in your time
running around Y and it just just an
observation that I see is there’s I
haven’t seen real new technology except
for the new ignitions would probably be
the biggest thing that’s right yeah the
digital um yep is that the Brian Caro
ones or and and even ashte are doing
something as well yep so my question is
do what do you see what do we see or is
it going to do you think it’s going to
be a big
change that’s a good question or do you
agree with what with it yeah well I
think the first thing comes to my mind
is do we want change yeah do we do we
want
is and what are we going to change is it
is is it a change to
improve the product that we have and is
that is that going to cost more money um
yeah my first thing comes from my mind
James is well do we want to change the
bikes have changed a little over the
years not a lot um you look back at the
bikes in the 30s they sure they were
they were sort of leg trailers really
weren’t they and the hand bars were down
on their knees but um other than the
leading link Forks which they’ve been
around forever as well yeah um and
dropping the motor laying that down and
that’s been experimental with for a long
long time as well mhm
um the really any massive change in the
years earlier years the the last few
years has been probably carbur
carburetor and yeah and ignition so I I
don’t know you stump me mate I don’t
know what can or what will moving
forward yeah we’ve had the the belt
drives on the boys have changed around
with the gear ratios they you know
yesterday year we used to run the you
know I guess the average rear spocket
would have been a 57 to or 60
62 the boys have all changed their
engine sprocket and their counter shaft
sprocket to BR 13s and what it 13s and
16s to to bring their rear sprocket down
in smaller sizes they’re all running
around what are they running 47 teeth
sprockets and stuff like that so what’s
that
for that’s for maybe weight losing a bit
of weight on the bike you can only take
so much weight off the bike until you
start putting weight back on it for the
scrutineers um that’s probably good for
the chains not coming off so much cuz
they’re not not spread out so much
they’re lot tighter but I I don’t know I
don’t know what’s what’s to come or what
should we change cuz every every other
sport seems to revolutionize in to some
degree and Speedway has just forever
been it’s it’s hasn’t really changed
much people still call spway bikes
broomsticks like they’re just uh there’s
not much of them they they’re they’re
just there are little like you said
there are you know the Brian carer
ignitions and all this electronic stuff
that are getting added but it there’s
nothing that’s really fully
revolutionized they had the the tubless
tires and that’s been catching people
out that’s been pretty scary at times
yeah you had Billy haml over the years
change the look of his bike with the
fiberglass yeah yeah I remember those
there there’s been a few of them over
the years was it um Andreas jansson
changed his frames for a couple years
wasn’t any alloy frame or something
weird like that yeah he had a but that’s
been going on forever too really I think
there was a company Maybe commodor there
was a British company years and years
ago where they run a twin tube over the
fuel tank y um side port I think Greg
Hancock’s probably the leader over the
years of of playing around with his
frames y um Jason with the headstock
that move Jason Crump that’s right um I
think um didn’t Tai bring in um some
sort of uh lightweight bolt uh for a
while and that’s when Dan buy was
running him and his headstock snapped on
it titanium
head his whole I did see the crash his
whole bike was TI every single bolt in
that bike he put titanium in and I think
he got away with it for a while but it
wasn’t until yeah I think Dan bu’s bike
broke in half so then the the the F
banned them all because they just
weren’t strong enough so people are
actively doing things I guess remember
crumpy used to run a lot of um alloy
bolts like he’s he’s CL like the two
bolts and your clutch and a few things
cuz um when cuz Str used to do the same
on his bikes and I used to say and you
think like they’re so light and pretty
weak you’d have to replace them a lot I
think there was a period there where
people were using like airplane Parts
like nuts and bolts whatever that were
apparently as strong as you could get
but High tensile strength but very
lightweight y well yeah the bikes evolve
slowly slowly but surely um you know
what sitting here thinking about it now
you know what I’d love if I had control
of whether there’s such a thing as World
spe or to make a massive change in the
sport I wouldn’t necessarily go the
bikes I would go the tracks yeah okay m
i could come up with the the coolest
track and I would first thing I want to
do to this to the tracks nowadays is
somehow come up with a with a Starting
Gate a bit like Supercross where you’re
starting on a great so it’s even there’s
none of this even grip even grip you
don’t have to Garden you can just you
can even grip everyone’s got the the the
same option there’s no favored Now 1 2
three or four yeah other than the angle
into the corner so for that to happen
you’d probably have to have the start
not on the start on the straight it have
to be either inside of the track or on
the outside of the track that would make
it interesting make it interesting
something different for the spectators
um it’ll need a bit of room um but more
so than that I want to I would love even
current tracks the shapes I just want to
put a serious amount of banking on the
corners yeah like Pro like Bell drone
banking like push bike you know those
those Olympic dudes yep something like
can you imagine Curry I think Curry’s a
fantastic track the shape of it it’s
very flat like the first and second
Corner that you guys you’ve ridden there
many a Time come across that Finish Line
you you don’t a th000 mil an hour come
into that corner but you can only use
one or two laines you can’t use the
second half of the track
she sort of Falls away into the if you
could run Curry like that all the way to
the fence mate just the curry tracker
line I’d start there how good would that
racing be yeah cuz that quite a long
straight for a small track Y and you
could just you could pick your line gun
in there it’d be amazing yeah I would
want to change I would want to put
serious amount of banking is it the
Sprint car tracks that are seriously
banked like I I from memory was it the
the New Zealand Grand PRI mhm the if if
you’re standing at the at the inside
line the The Back Fence it’s nearly at
eyesight y you know like that’s how
banked it was because it was a Sprint
car track yeah y I went to that and yeah
yeah right okay like reading reading
Speedway been there forever and I reckon
the same bumps were going into that
corner 3 from the day they buildt it to
the day it retired right like everyone
knew that there was these these bumps
coming into Corner 3 and the third
Corner was coming into the pit Corner
reading it actually fell away from you
it was like it was really awkward yeah
okay and I just I want to I want more
thought put into the tracks and more
grading or whatever to get the tracks of
some serious Banking and that would be
enough for the for the crowd to enjoy it
more yeah okay and you imagine riding a
track like that James Imagine coming to
the corner man you couldn’t come quick
enough you’d be wan to go you’d be
wanting to go quicker and quicker and
quicker and I thought well how do you I
keep picturing the push bite is they
call it a bell drum is B like they’re
seriously banged down oh yeah they
struggle to climb up yeah imagine
imagine run track but how do you keep
the dirt yeah how you keep the dirt up
there up yeah it will be down down the
bottom bit of a bit of a storm and
should be all down the grass if it’s not
like a super steep banking You’ think it
would sit like how do Sprint cars Sprint
tracks do it yeah well they’re Clay
they’re not really yeah okay soil like
the solos Ed but clay sticks yeah okay
Bradford was probably the most steepest
track I Road Bradford Speedway in
northern England MH had a lot of
especially Corner three and four piit
corner right had serious Banking and you
could go as quick around the inside as
you good the outside yeah okay um but
I’d start with curry mate I’d just love
to see that St lift the outside of the
fence up a meter and then just take the
track up to it it can be unreal well
when you do that then we’ll get the old
lay down on it we’ll show you the
fastest way around that track didn’t you
have it up the road the other day I oh
mate it was it was sketchy well the the
freaking the right hand the foot Peg
doesn’t swing she’s so you can’t she’s
