  1. This really puts things into perspective when YouTubers playing off scratch think they could get into the PGA Tour 😂

  2. Fantastic insight, I’m with you Dan, how good could he have been? Gordon Sherry was an awesome amateur and didn’t make it. And some players like Rob Rock, without amateur wins had super careers on tour. You just never know… keep up the good work mate

  3. Really interesting insight, and shows you the level beyond the tour guys are playing at. Just because you may be a + handicapper, doesn’t mean you're going to be good enough!

  4. Dan, this is so good. I would love to see more of this type of content. Maybe a follow on of the specifics where he was just a hair behind. Clearly he's amazing but what are the separators?

  5. Self awareness is so rare and so valuable….this guy had no illusions about how good you need to be to cut it on the pga tour and accepted that he wasn’t quite there. Tough decision and one I hope he never regrets….but….not to try is not to know, maybe he could’ve raised his game and surprised himself?

  6. It's brutal that his dreams were crushed by playing around two Top 20 guys. Maybe he could have been a grinder on the tour.

  7. The tour guys are at a different level for sure, and it’s a combination of things. Obviously the ball striking / putting skills but also the mental toughness to grind it out. Some turn pro and have instant success top ten finishes etc that take away the initial stress/ pressure. Others it takes a while sometimes a few goes losing and regaining cards. Look at Justin rose, turned pro and had a nightmare 18 months but kept at it and it turned for him.
The mental side is one rarely talked about and it’s possibly most important, look how Bruce Koepka was struggling with his game, joined LIV and maybe the money in the bank but suddenly his game has turned again

  8. Watched Rory at Wentworth years back. Literally five people in the gallery, three of whom were his family… I read about him in the amatuer magazines, so knew he was good. But … as a skinny kid he bombed it past everyone in the field (bar Cabrera maybe, who won that week). It was so obvious Rory was a class act.

  9. Played in a few junior opens with Justin Rose when he was 11/12 years old and same level as us lads 3-4 years older than him. He barely missed a putt from inside 10 feet and relentless up and downs could only drive it 150 yards and still shooting level par elite level. Such a nice lad aswell so glad to see what he became 👏🤝🙏

  10. I trained and played against a couple of guys that turned playing pro.. one of them was my age. He was the shortest of us all but he would hit 3 balls with a 3 wood at the exact same spot in in the back net of the driving range like 220 yards away. We were 14/15 years old. We already knew he was something else and he won for the first the time on the DP world tour this year.

  11. There's probably thousands of dudes just like this that were right there but didnt have that magic something to tip them over the edge to greatness
