In the final round of the 2024 Valero Texas Open, Denny McCarthy’s awesome 9-under par 63 put him in a playoff with Akshay Bhatia, but would find the hazard on the first playoff hole allowing Akshay to win.

It’s the final week before the season’s first major championship as the PGA TOUR heads to TPC San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open. Rory McIlroy returns to make his third start of this event’s TPC San Antonio era; he finished runner-up in 2013 and missed the cut in 2022. He arrives here with 21 consecutive made cuts worldwide. Jordan Spieth plays in his home state this week. He finished runner-up here in 2015 and claimed victory in 2021. Missing the cut in his last two starts on TOUR, the three-time major winner is also looking to heat up before arriving in Augusta next week for the Masters Tournament. Canadian Corey Connors returns to defend his title this week. He looks to become the first back-to-back winner at the Valero Texas Open since Zach Johnson in 2008-09. He’s made five cuts out of five here and claimed victory in 2019 as well as last year’s success. Others to look out for are Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Hideki Matsuyama and Matt Fitzpatrick.

He missed two birdie putts inside 6 feet on the first 3 holes. He makes those 9 out of 10 times. Probably kicking himself more for missing those then the chunked shot on the playoff hole.

What grit and fight shown by McCarthy. Just that golfing Gods were with Bhatia but I think we found a fighter in McCarthy.

Didn’t know who I wanted to win honestly, I was happy that McCarthy was giving Bhatia a hard time but sad that he ended up losing in the playoff. Great golf though. Hopefully McCarthy gets a win soon. That’s 2 playoff loses now..
That would have been a great comeback victory if he had won. Almost had it, but that chunked shot in the playoff is gonna make it hard for him to sleep tonight. Glad he made it exciting at the least!

I was rooting for Denny Mcarthy because his home course is Argyle Country Club and I belong there and I was cheering him on because I wanted him too win. It was hard to see him lose in playoffs. 0-2 in Playoffs
