So in 2 days time I got a sign coming up which is going to be massive so today is a chance to get ready for that day so I’m going to take you along on my practice day I’ve got a couple drills which are going to be really important

I’m going to explain why I’m doing them and how they could possibly help you so let’s take you along and try and make this a good productive practice Day Down If you’re serious about your golf game and you want to improve this year and you’re not doing mobility then you’re going to be at a loss firstly you’re increasing your risk of injury but secondly if you’re not doing mobility and your body is tight in certain areas

And you’re trying to get in positions that you can’t get in because your body won’t let you then you are completely wasting your time so there’s loads of stuff you can do see a physio see a PT work out where you’re limited and then improve that by doing mobility so

Increasing the range of movement through motion so let me know people in the comments are you doing mobility do you do anything for mobility and if not why and it’s probably going to be cuz you can’t be so before we get into these drills before I go into what I’m working

On today um I’m just going to go through my little Mobility I won’t waste your time it’s going to be in Fast Forward cuz I know you will click off if you haven’t Already first drill not exactly Reinventing the wheel here just keeping that swing path in the right place used to see VJ sing do this a lot but with alignment rods obviously I’m not on a grass range and I’ve not got one of those alignment stick devices you can

Put into it that’s usually what I’ll use and VJ being a favor of the golf ball always trying to stay above the plane line I imagine just so we wouldn’t you know get inside and get stuck and what I’ve realized over the last few years from different positions I’ve been in in

The golf swing is that I’m better when I’m slightly over the plane line because this is what I think the longer I play Golf the more instruction I get and receive and look into so much of it comes down to our capabilities and the way that we can actually move first I

Think that should be the first distinction so golf coaches that get into like the screenings see what you can do what your body is capable of doing before going you need to do this and this and this so I’ve always had tight hips and I’m working on them a lot

Really trying to move doing lots of Mobility um trying to free them up but when I get deep so when the club gets you know into a slightly deeper position meaning my hands are more like under they’re more under the plane line or on the plane line because my hips don’t

Move very well and I can’t really get into the floor and get that turn like what you see like the ganker stuff we get into the floor squat turn because you know if I try and do that it’s just it just doesn’t work I just pop up then

The club gets stuck behind me and then it’s just completely dead when that club’s stuck and your hips can’t go deep deep into the floor and really rotate hard you’re just in a stuck position so what I found is getting that club up more upright like DJ or sheffler type

Feels I can just rotate my hips they don’t have to get into the floor if you look at and even if you look like Jack Nicholas good upright golf swing he didn’t have that leg action he didn’t get squat into the floor um and it it did all right for him

I feel like a lot of people would be better golfers and would have a much more enjoyable time playing golf and learning golf if they first worked out where where they’re limited what their capabilities are swing wise and maybe they can improve that by doing some ability and streping work but first of

All just knowing what you’re capable of for trying to swing it a certain way so there going to be players that you watch every week on the PJ tour you know oh like look at that FY trying to get in that position and you can’t do it cuz you’re not built like them

Right then a few numbers I am hitting at this thing but it’s like a 30 mph wind across so I’m hitting a cut and which means I have to aim further left so in reality I mean that’s just not the number on the course probably like four

Left on the course but that and that sort of work to hit a little cut um 299 carry 1 2 3 and 183 pretty standard numbers on the course at the moment um very low spin but these balls are very low spin anyway low launch I wanted

To really Max up my numbers firstly I probably wouldn’t be sort of getting across it and which encourages a bit more of a descending below cuz I’ll be getting more Rory which is sort of like 4 five right six up on it launching it at like 1415 with you know High th000

Spin like 18 19 Spin and I’ll probably get I don’t know an extra 20 out of it possibly but I like the feeling of getting a bit across it not being too up on it and hitting drivey like forward Cuts I just find it way more controllable and if I’m having a bad

Swing down the golf course where I’m losing a few I just get more drivey I just tee it a bit lower squeeze it a bit more but yeah just get on top of it and just get it around that way right before we get to the big news and my recent

Tournament results this is what I’m doing right now to finish off so this is a trapman performance test which you may or may not have done but this is so good this is the best bit about trapman so you put in 44 to 166 yards 12 shots

Randomized and it also has these pin locations so that is Strokes gained on the PJ tour Zone and you miss more um you lose more for missing in the rough of the bunker uh so 100 yards to finish I’ll probably have to knock this pretty much in the hole to get better than

Strokes better than to Aver Strokes gained for this 12 balls let hit the target here we go that could be good oh so we go just lost cuz I hit that in The Fringe B penalization son lost 1.16 shots this uh the big news coming up

This week this is what I dragu long for uh so there’s a new golf tour starting this year for pro golfers called the one Golf League and this is going to be 54 54 man Fields so three Bulls shotgun start everyone out in the golf course at the same time

Every single event at the asprey 4 in quid entry 399 and a 10 grand winner one day shoot out 10 grand winner top 10 getting paid I think which is massive uh and this is going to supplement my PGA tournaments really well this year doesn’t take too much time you just

Going up there for one day shootout obviously it’s the asprey each time and and um you’re going to know the course so you don’t need to you know go up too early for practice round etc etc so this Monday because the weather’s been so bad because we’ve had so much rain they’ve

Had to changed the venue for the first event which is at witting witting wittington Heath uh in the north Midlands I think there is only 31 I think 31 players something around 30 Robert Rock’s playing Scott Drummond um and a load of other Lads and yeah 10 grand winner he’s um he’s guaranteeing

It so this is different from a lot of other Go tours he’s actually guaranteeing the money and I feel like this tour is going to grow really well and I’m sort of a part of that as an ambassador so I’m really looking forward to playing these events I think there’s

Seven events seven or eight events total like I said after this first one all at the aspr and this week I’m going to be filming it so flow’s going to come along film the rounds much like I did in South Africa and we’re going to show you that

Tour so really looking forward to that traveling up Monday no sorry traveling up tomorrow tournament is on Monday so let’s go and have a good week game’s feeling good just doing the same things and it’s just all on the day whe the butts drop um that would be a nice start to the

Year

  1. Changed my gym routine and started Olympic weightlifting 2 years or so ago. Massively improved my mobility especially in my hips, hamstrings and posterior in general. Although I did feel a bit of a gimp doing it for the first 6 months 😂

  2. James, I love these types of videos you do where you are giving little insights into your swing issues, body issues, and how you go about trying to resolve. We can all relate to this if you are playing golf regularly and competing at your local club or trying to get to the next level.

  3. You have to find YOUR swing! I am 62 and do a lot of mobility exercises – this helps but I quit watching videos how to swing! My swing thought is "move your body" because I tend to swing only with my arms – this helps me a lot. It is totally different to your swing, which is so much better but there might be this one thing you have to think about….

  4. I think Fred Couples is a good example of what your talking about. Fred clears his hips really well and stays deep through the downswing but doesn't squat or compress much into the ground like Hogan or Tiger. He also doesn't get the club deep in backswing just goes more vertical with the arms, still hit's a nice little fade.

  5. Great topic! After a complete rectal reconstruction due to a misunderstanding between myself and a rear admiral in the navy I have struggled with my flexibility! 3 years in the Brig can be transformative and my flexibility has expanded beyond the limits of what I thought was possible. After I was released, I developed something I call Koga. Which the combination of Yoga and Karate. Now I am ready for anything!

  6. mobility, core strength, and activation drills are immensely helpful for me. I got my driver speed up to mid 120s at the top end with a 115 cruise before a hand injury from unexpectly frozen turf set me back just a little (on the mend) and I am just shy of 48. However, the main benefit has been reduced hip and back pain. I will admit that fitness is my other major hobby after golf and I've been training for the last 35 years, but extensive mobility drills and deep core training are a fairly new feature of my routine.

  7. Been working my ass off on mobility for the first time in my life. Mainly because I never used to need it. Not 18 anymore 😅

Been nice to see how much better I feel after dedicating some 15-20min to deep stretching. I've seen the results of it. Crazy how it can creep up on you. Stiffness from sitting a lot etc.

  8. Also huge thanks to Flower for filming when you can. We appreciate you and I hope you are also staying consistent with something you're passionate about. What goes around comes around. Great guy on a real note 🙏👍

  9. Are they letting spectators in on the course do you know, either at Whittington tomorrow or at the Astbury later on?

  10. Yes – I have this app called dynamic golfers – it’s 15 mins a day and I try and do it 4/5 a week. Doing it as I’m getting older and will just help for joint mobility

  11. According to the stats right now 1 k views generate £10.16 on YouTube what we all need is a viral video 😂

  12. James, it is awesome that you are into doing YouTube and watching YouTube, it is people like you that are growing the game!! Gankas, Bryan Bros e.t.c love the name drops.. How about you and Micah blast some drives together, my money is on your game!

  13. Great video, and good luck Indo the normal work out with range before we start I had back operation and disk problems, so only have a have swing trying to get bit more of a back swing to generate more power. Handicap 11 at the moment.

  14. The pliability app is a real game changer for mobility. There's golf specific and general mobility – it takes time each day, but adds a level of awareness to your body which is so helpful

  15. A lot of golfers would play better, move better and enjoy the game more if they actually worked out and understood what a ' swing ' is ! Dr Kwon on You Tube is a professor/biomechanist and is for most golfers the best technique to follow. He is very much in the Ernest Jones method,. Jones was teacher who the legendary Mo Norman said was probably the only one who really understood the golf swing. Hogan was aware of this also.

  16. This content is absolutely golden. the majority of the youtube golf space that hasnt seen this about what your body's capable of and all that NEED to find this content, its such a game changer.
