For a player if they’re not already qualified for the Masters they have to win because the top 50 got locked in last week but as we look at this Cory Connor is the defending Champion we’re coming off a week where Scotty Sheffer almost did it again have we arrived
Congratulations by the way to Stephen jger getting his first win have we arrived to a point where it is Scotty sheffler and everybody else well almost I I think that the fact that he missed that short putt on the 72nd hole the other day you know it
Might just put a little doubt in his mind although he has been just so solid from te to green and we know at Augusta National next week it is all about you know hitting it long hitting it high to small little areas but we we’ll cover
That next week in the uh the coverage of our dtl golf next week but but this week really yes you have that opportunity to get to Augusta that is really what so many of these players are looking forward to and but they’re going to have
To uh deal with the likes of of a defending Champion like a Corey Connor uh like Rory mroy who’s getting his game prepared for Magnolia Lane uh guys like that ludig oberg is right up there as well who’s going to be one of those guys uh one of the rookies who’s have a
Chance to do really well here at TPC San Antonio as well yeah he is playing for the first time as a pro in this event he missed the cut a year ago four the top 10 players in the world fast steady are at this event some players like to play
The week before Majors o others do not Rory does as a player and I’ll probably piggyback this question with Rd as well when you look at it and you look at malady he said I never want to go until I qualify he does Stephen jger gets his
First win there’s a lot of first time winners already in 2024 but now we have this when you’re looking at this to play before a major would you do it if you didn’t need to I don’t think I would I think from a long drive perspective I like taking the
Day off before I compete so it just depends on what you want to do like if it hasn’t worked in the past if you’ve played well the week before and then you go into the tournament into a major and and you play well then maybe you want to
Play the week before um if you haven’t maybe switch it up a little bit so I think it’s all kind of what have I done in the past that’s worked and maybe keep doing that or maybe let’s switch it up maybe play the week before or not play
The week before just depending on how you feel and how your game evolves whether you take a week off you might be a little rusty or you want to kind of keep it rolling especially if you’re playing well just kind of keep the train rolling that’s kind of what I would
Think and I think that’s Rd where a lot of people fall is if you’re playing well as long as it’s not three in a row a lot of players like to Tee It Up get on the PJ cool kidss called the private jet you know that Rd and then they get to
Augusta you have a normal normal week what would you do you know I uh I don’t think it’s a one-sized fits all answer it really isn’t I I would have taken the week off probably if I if I felt like I was playing well but you know I I was
Usually you know just barely into majors and trying to play my way uh into some kind of form going in so I played quite a bit but but you know I also used to be uh uh I’ll name drop here what the I also used to be a member at eorth and uh
Who else was there Tiger Woods when he was you know Prime Tiger Woods and he never played the week before and I used to see him and it was like unbelievable to me he would go before Augusta and we know how hilly it is and he would
Practice off the side of the t- box he would practice on the down slope at the front edge of the t- boox up slopes he didn’t practice normal he practiced specifically for that tournament and he came in more prepared than everybody and when you factor in the fact that he’s
More prepared than everybody and better than everybody he did pretty damn well at that tournament he was not a fair fight a lot of the time and let’s real quickly talk about him and then we’ll get to our picks for the week but we’ve talked about this for four or five weeks
Since all these Signature Events uh Steve have come and gone and the last time we saw Tiger Woods was at the Genesis withdrawing throwing up everywhere getting an IV and we haven’t seen him since and now he’s going to go to Augusta he’s going to walk this
Course even though he knows this better than anybody and he has several Green Jackets I just don’t know how he thinks he’s going to compete when he has a stepped foot on a golf course in competition since February your take coach I’m a little surprised he
Didn’t play in The Players uh given that all the uh the hype and the everything that’s been going on between the PGA Tour and and the PF and everything that he wouldn’t put his presence there on a fairly flat Golf Course to test his game uh against the top competition ition in
The world and looking to next week I mean you know that I mean I guess we’ve heard that he took a visit to Augusta this last weekend the weather was beautiful there in the 80s and uh the weather looks pretty good next week as well which he needs a warm Augusta
Georgia to play well given his back and all he’s got all these injuries so the warm weather is going to really help and uh you know he’s going to have a an opportunity next week but uh you know the the fact that he has not competed you’re right it’s just one of those
Things that you cannot replicate that stuff at home at The Medalist you can’t do it it’s just not possible I don’t care whatever money you’re playing for against all the guys down there you cannot replicate the atmosphere you cannot replicate the adrenaline that you feel over a five-footer to you know to
Save par whatever the case may be he does know the golf course better than anybody but uh it’s going to be a tall task it’s going to be great to see him but it’s going to be a tall task and I guarantee you he doesn’t want to be the

His title you’ve got all these studs Brooks Kea DJ has won here before at the Masters I’m talking about it almost is starting to feel like it’s a celebratory hopefully 36 holes but not a competitive and that’s sad to me it is I think all of us would love to see tiger
In the mix on Sunday I think if he makes the cut I think it’ll be a win so I if we could see him on Saturday and Sunday you know they’ll show every shot regardless if he’s shooting 74 or 75 or whatever but with Scotty playing the way
He’s playing you know for I had lunch today with my sports psychologist and and swing coach Scotty and and Paul dueland and we were talking about that five footer the Scotty missed everyone I can’t believe he missed it it’s 75 the PGA Tour average is 75% from five feet
Now you would think it would be higher but with that pressure not every five foot is is the same but it’s just you know I thought it would have been higher than 75% we looked it up at lunch and it’s like you know what you can miss
That putt it’s it’s not a gimme so you know and he’s putted so well it’s almost like you know what he missed one okay he hasn’t really missed many the last three tournaments so yeah it’s G to happen but yes to answer your question I would love
To see tiger in the in the mix ROM all the guys I mean it’s going to be awesome I can’t I can’t wait it really really is and RD it all starts really almost before everybody gets it we’re already itching to figure out what the dynamic is going to be now that everything’s
Different than a year ago but are you surprised like Steve Scott is that when tiger said I’m G to play once a month I gotta play once a month that we haven’t seen him since the Genesis in La when he didn’t look good at all not really I I I
Had hopes of course I had hopes for beay Hill you know he’s won here eight times if he can win here again it would break the all-time record uh uh you know Sam sne and Greensboro won that many times so uh that would have been cool I wanted
To see at players just do something to get ready for Augusta because we’ love to see him but here’s what it boils down to he’s one of the two best players that ever lived ever and it’s not there’s not a comparison whoever number three is is
Down the line he and Nicholas are the two best of all time and and is he capable of winning absolutely absolutely because you you got to remember as as great as Rah is as great as as Scotty is and and by the way just to back up
Scotty didn’t just miss the putt on the last hole last week he hit a bad putt that’s that’s that’s two different things altoe so wam Clark missed the last putt at uh players but he hit an awesome putt it just lipped out uh there’s different mentalities that go
With that but I digress players like Scotty players like Rah cannot as great as they are and I don’t want to disparage them cannot hold his jockstrap they can’t Tiger’s so much better than all of them put together it’s a joke at his best can he catch lightning in a
Bottle yeah it’s possible is he going to probably not but I sure am not I mean I’m not GNA bet on him but I’m not betting against him either I’m never going to do that again I wonder what the numberers going to be for him to miss the cut that’s

One as you can imagine is first round leader this gives all of you the on the instant satisfaction you get that after 18 ho so as I look at my notes Eddie Fernandez I’m starting with you first big boy because I’m looking at yours and there’s a couple of guys that are
Trending and Billy horel is as locked in you’re worried about players looking forward he’s not one of them talk to me about these two yeah I love I I love both of these picks reason being is you know Ben on is second and birdie average
Per round uh just over five two top 10 the last four years he just made seven out of eight Cuts this year here he was off we know how much he plays he he needed a little break last week so we took the week off he should be fresh uh
Another thing is he’s he’s allaround such a good player positive Strokes gained in every category the last three months uh Billy hoe he I think he found something last week 64 in the final round last week amongst the players in the field he is seventh in Strokes game total trending
In the right direction obious obviously he’s kind of figured something out the last few tournaments uh he’s been ninth 12th and seventh the last three events uh seventh last week in Houston so I I like I like him to kind of continue play and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him
On the first page of the leaderboard and maybe have a chance down the stretch on Sunday yeah it takes a player who is really really intense to lock in a first round leader I I I like players that are really Intense or really RedHot and both
These guys are that now Steve Scott I’m going to come over to you because last week I had Tom hogi over Alex Norris Tom hogi top 20 I hit the top 20 Alex Norris decided that on Sunday he’s goingon to shoot a 565 to bust Me by one shot so
I’m not happy about it but I respect where noren’s game is at talk to me here and Alex Norton’s found his game I mean the last three events he’s been on fire pretty really rock solid to be honest I mean all top 20s uh he’s had a tied for
Ninth at the PJ National at the cognizant classic 19th at the Players tied 11th last week uh like you mentioned so uh and he tied for 15th here in his only appearance last year and I think the most important fact of the matter is with this category is that
He’s fifth in first round scoring average this season so he does get out of the blocks well uh as the tournament goes on you know he you know second and third round maybe he lets go a little bit but he comes out of that blocks in
The first round really well and I I think he’s going to carry over some of that good play that five under par from last Sunday into this uh this round tomorrow and and go or excuse me on Thursday and just go ahead and uh and continue that good play and good play
Feeds on other good plays so Alex noren plus 5,000 put a little something on him you’re damn right did you hear that I did I’ve got my paper I’ve got my pencil fifth first round scoring so RDM coming over you because you’re back in that play but also you like a guy that’s
Screaming from the mountain tops in a very very subdued voice don’t just make me a good good putter coach when you’re doing the events don’t do that Denny McCarthy talk to me on these two yeah the general Denny McCarthy you know what I’m trying to I’m kind of changing the
Way that I look at this bet this first round leader bet and you know what does it take to shoot a good round a really good low round you can’t do it without making a bunch of putts so I’m G to start trending a little bit more towards
The great Putters Alex noren Steve said everything about him that you know that I had he is a fantastic and has been for years years and who’s the best putter on planet Earth statistically over the last five years is not even close it’s Denny McCarthy so a hot putter is what can
Take you low Denny he’s got two top 20s and four appearances here so uh I I think over the next few weeks and we’ll kind of feel this out how we’re doing I’m going to go with these hot Putters the guy that can get going for one week
Maybe not hit it good enough to sustain over four rounds in a row you know not that they barking dogs with a other golf clubs in their hand they’re very good but yeah I’m I’m going with hot Putters here so I like both of these bets I do
Not know how I feel about you actually doing homework or actually paying attention to what’s going on on the putting green I don’t know how I feel about it cats and dogs living together man does it always work no but I feel like here it does all right you guys

Green and approach seventh in Strokes gain total he’s just a rock solid ball striking machine uh and he might be a little bit of a glimpse on who I might pick at uh that little place in Georgia next week Ju Just saying moraca is losing almost a half a
Shot per round uh approach ball striking not up to par as it always has been it’s just been a strength so uh I love Corey he’s about a shot better Strokes gain total and and Collins last two starts missed cut and 45 at 45th at the Players so uh Harris English over Tommy
Fleetwood Harris English minus 118 Harris eight straight cuts two top 10 five top 20s Strokes gain total fifth amongst this field he’s playing really good golf I followed him a little bit uh at the API and he’s he’s swinging it really really well he’s just an allaround good solid player and uh he’s
Been off the last couple of weeks so I I plan on him coming in here playing some solid Golf and you know Tommy has not played well he has not played well at all so and just the difference in Harris and Tommy Fleetwood Strokes gained is around two shots
Per round so give me the I’ll pad the eight shots for four rounds and take Mr English over Tommy Fleetwood at minus 18 orus 118 the last time we saw Tommy Fleetwood he was scoring not a 10 not an 11 it was a 12 was it not Rd it was something
Like I’m pretty sure it was a 12 we were on WE me r d Steve were you on the call for the API okay I know you you do like every other week so I always remember when you’re on I know me and RD were
Together it was a 12 he had a 12 add to Jake nap had a 12 on six as well uh by the way Colin Mora in the last top uh last six events won Top 10 he’s not playing good golf love that play also all right Steve Scott you and RD each
Have three and you’re leaning into to the defending Champion but because we shop around at different books you have a different opponent for the defending Champion let’s start there I do yeah with with Cory Connor over Max hom right there Corey’s just loves this golf course minus 120 over Max Max just
Hasn’t played well he just uh the these three that I’m I’m kind of fading this week in this category they just haven’t played well H he kind of let a hot putter do the talking a few weeks ago with his tied for eth at the API there
At Bay Hill but uh you know he’s just we we think he’s gonna be this Big Game Hunter and just hasn’t performed in the big events and uh he hasn’t played well this calendar year overall just hasn’t really uh jumped off the page for me so Cory Connors loves this golf course uh
There’s a lot of things to understand about this golf course uh you know he’s got two wins in the last five times here he’s played pretty well recently a couple top 20s at TPC Sawgrass and Bay Hills so I like Cory here this is a a
Kind of a no-brainer for me on this one uh jump up to Billy horel at uh minus 130 over Bo Hustler Bo Hustler just I know he’s a Texas guy he just hasn’t quite gotten the Mojo with his ball striking I’m just not feeling boassa right now he’s just uh tied for 57th
Last week uh he’s missed a few other Cuts before that he’s almost losing about two shots to the field on both of his miscuts before that on his Strokes gain approach he’s just not hitting enough good iron shots to give himself enough good look so uh not not a great
Uh a great pick there Billy Ho he is he’s my Florida Gator man I got to give him some props there but he’s playing so well and he plays really well in bunches you think about what he did back when he won the FedEx Cup a few years ago uh he
Really plays well in bunches his last three finishes tied ninth tied 12th and tied seventh last week thought he was gonna get it done so Billy hoe there over boho uh on that one they never called they’ve never called him boho but anyway maybe more like boohoo uh finally
Lucas Glover over Tom Kim Glover’s made four Cuts in a row here fourth place in 2021 I’m feeling Lucas Glover is uh he’s ready to to put a a good round on the board get ready for next week at Augusta Tom Kim uh he’s the little train that
Isn’t isn’t doing much right now uh he’s just kind of uh in in neutral maybe even going backwards right there he’s got a uh he’s got to work on his engine because he hasn’t finished inside the top 50 uh recently at all and this calendar year just not playing well he’s
Had some caddy changes uh just working maybe a few things on his swing Tom Kim just not the Tom Kim that we knew uh of last year or before so uh Lucas Glover the glove there I was laughing partly Steve at you but also at the line from from big

Pretty good picks obviously I’ve got a little different over Bo Hustler Steve had Billy horel whereas I have Aaron Ry Aaron played some nice golf last week and Bo we like to take players that are trending Bo’s trending backwards even though he you know went to Texas he last
Week in Houston he he finished t for 50 seventh before that he missed two cuts in a row so I’m afraid Bo is just going the wrong direction and this is a quirky Golf Course uh coach it’s it’s it’s a little bit different a matter of fact
Years ago when they announced I was in the PJ Tour player meeting when they announced that they’ve got a new TPC going up in San Antonio it’s going to be a Greg Norman design and trip Eisenhower raised his hand and goes who do we have slated for the redesign because he knew
It was gonna be a piece of garbage from Norman it was funny as hell I’m sorry I got to give him credit but uh it’s been softened Sergio came in and did some fixing up it’s been softened but it’s still Ultra quirky so Cory Connor knows it obviously he’s won here twice moraca
Has never played here and he’s just not playing morawa golf I’m sorry he isn’t I love call moraca I want to see him playing well and if you look at his stats the ball striking is okay but okay stats for morawa don’t add up he’s premier he’s Elite with ball striking
And it’s not there yet so I’m really liking the the the Cory Connor’s over top of morawa and then uh this last one is really something that has got me scratching my head matama of course he’s hits it great he’s a short game Wizard he’s he uh you outside of the putting
He’s great pitching uh he finished 15th here last year he’s playing well first 12th and six the last three tournaments so this one’s easy but here here’s the here’s what’s like concerning me is Jordan Speed still an elite player or is he an elite name he’s not playing good
Golf and has it for a while not since really um losing the playoff in Hilton Head last year maybe there’s been a couple others and I know he plays well here at this golf course typically but you know where else he plays well vpar he’s got a first and a third you know
What he did missed the cut you know where Elsie plays great Pebble Beach uh he’s got a first second and a third there but he finished 63rd there out of a very short field uh he’s just not playing Jordan spe Golf and and there’s stretches where he does things great and
Shows you promise of who he used to be but it’s just not being put together very often so I gotta take hii over speed you know what great minds Rd and I’m specifically talking about you and me not Eddie Steve Scott they think alike a lot of the time and in this
Instance that’s exactly what I was getting ready to tell the audience at home that you can find names that the sports books refuse to give the proper number to and this is exactly what we’re talking about Hadi should be minus 140 minus 150 he’s not he’s minus 120 it’s
About finding a diamond in the rough you could say the same thing on that Colin morawa pick for these two guys is that Colin is a huge name minus 145 I’ll take that all day all day you got to find those numbers you got to do a little the

The last few weeks and I think I I I looked at this there’s only 14 guys from Great Britain and Ireland playing this week and Aaron Ry finished tied for seven he only finished Two Shots back uh with Billy horel and and I’ll tell you what he really impressed me last week

Have to be a bomber on this golf course you just have to be kind of tough you got to be able to weather the storm Brian harman’s a very tough competitor and uh he can uh you can you can make some high numbers on this golf course
But Brian Haron uh keeps the ball in play really nicely is a great putter uh can get it done in the windy conditions and then Billy horel uh we’ve said so many great things about him but uh a couple additional things in the past 16 rounds he ranks 11th in the field and

I think it’s G you got to look down the list this week I I’m I’m not uh I I think if you’re really going to put some money on somebody I don’t think it’s going to be one of those favorites I really don’t I I really think it’s going
To be somebody it’s this golf course can really jump up and grab you it’s got some quirks to it uh and I think that uh there’s going to be some some interesting people towards the top of the board this week so a guy like a Charlie Hoffman a guy like Zack Johnson
Uh those sorts of people who maybe uh you wouldn’t expect to be up there I I think somebody there’s going to be a few of them up there that you don’t Sam Stevens is a guy uh who finished second here last year and I like the double s
Moniker but you know Sam Stevens nobody really he doesn’t jump out on anybody so it’s gonna be one of those guys this week I’ve got a feeling it is a weird 2024 outside of a couple of weeks it has been a long shot or a rookie or somebody
We didn’t expect to win all of these tournaments except for a couple so we could Trend towards that way again good analysis by you uh by the way Rd can you tell me who are the only two players to win this event three time in the history of
The Valero Texas open of course I can Arnold Palmer of course yes Justin Leonard of course what how did you I thought how did you know no cheating at all involved in that I just knew it okay well since you since you knew that did you know how hard it
Is to get the job done a third time which is something that Cory Connors is going to attempt to do but the other big storyline with Rory is he’s not always played the week before this is only the third time he’s played here he’s trying
To figure out what does he need to do because next week can change his life forever and we’ve had over a decade discussing the same topic which way would you go because right now there’s a ton of storylines you know I think Rory’s a great story line and and but we

Making a 16 on the ninth hole here because he drove it into the stuff right found it and couldn’t pitch it out there are some horrendous breaks to be found some doubles triples and quads so you know there’s a handful of easy holes but really there’s about four or five holes
Where any number is in play because of the shrubs and and and all of that surrounding both sides of the Fairway so let’s just watch this weird course before we get to next week let’s watch this weird course and appreciate it quirkiness and how these guys tackle it
