Okay all right well we will go ahead and get started we’d like to welcome the 2019 and 2023 winner of the Valero Texas open Cory Connor Corey thanks for joining us for a few minutes we’re talking on the way over about what a special familyfriendly fun place this is
Uh you’ve got everybody here we can talk more about that but um just a little insight into how you got the job done last year I’m sure the opening round 64 didn’t hurt uh but just how nice it is to feel back to be back at a place
Especially where you’ve won twice yeah it’s awesome to be back this uh this will always be a special place to me and um yeah coming off the wind last year obviously uh you know a lot of good memories and really Drew off the memories I had in 19 as well last year
To to get it done and um it’s definitely a place I feel comfortable you know place I’m you know happy walking around and um definitely lots of lots of good vibes and lots of uh yeah lots of good memories that I can draw off of out there um really like the golf course
It’s in great shape again this year and um yeah definitely you know really fun to be back and uh I’m excited to to give it a good uh good run again this year you you’ve uh racked up top 20s in your last two starts big events Bay Hill and
Players Championship just a few comments on how you’re feeling about your game coming into the week yeah I feel good about my game um felt really solid especially at the Players uh Championship just um had a had an off day on Saturday that that took me out of
Contention but um lots of positives from the last few weeks I feel like all parts of my game are you know trending in the right direction been hitting the ball well um short game and putting have been getting sharper and sharper and um yeah just you know continuing to to work hard
But I feel good about everything and um feel like it’s just a matter of time before you know turn those top 20s into top 10 and wins okay we got couple questions questions Cory what stands out when you look at the field this week and the quality of the competition you’re up
Against yeah it’s awesome to to see you know many of the top players here in San Antonio this week it’s uh it’s a great great event they do do an awesome job and um yeah I’m excited to to te it up alongside uh a number of the top players
In the world I think it’s it’s great for the the tournament the Valero and um yeah I think you know those guys will see what a what a special place this is as well and um yeah I think you know leading into to Augusta some of them probably wanted to to get some
Tournament reps under their belt um and this is certainly a a place that’ll test you and um you know see where your game’s at where do you stand on that I think people go either way on whether they should play the week before auguster or not yeah I mean don’t see
Myself ever uh you know not not playing here I think the this uh this is an amazing place and um you we’ve had Obviously good results here but um I I mixed you know I don’t yeah I think this year I’ll be playing before every major um just the
Way that the schedules is set up um know I’ve been on and off in in the past um played well at the PGA last year with a week off before but I’ve had uh good results you know at Augusta coming off uh playing the Valero here in San
Antonio as well do you think there’s any different mindset for guys who know they’re going to be at Augusta next week versus guys who do not have that opportunity you’ve been on both sides of it yeah well I think the guys who don’t have the opportunity in the field you
Know there’s there’s a you know a bright light at the end of the tunnel here if you if you win like I did in 19 you you know you punch a ticket to Augusta um yeah so I think some guys are motivated sort of the last last chance to to get
In the field there um know guys who are in the field obviously hard to not think ahead because that’s a special week as well but um you know you can’t uh I think everyone’s gonna be fighting hard this week this it’s a demanding golf course you know always fairly tricky conditions and
Um you know I got to take care of business this week definitely and that’s uh certainly what I’m focused on before we let you go I do have to ask you shared a great fun story about your family all kind of collecting here and all the different trials can you just
Run through that for for the folks here yeah yeah so my uh wife mallerie and daughter Reese are are here again they uh they were here last year and my uh in-laws came back again they they were here to to cheer me on last year and they uh they’re back trying to bring
Some good vibes again um they uh they’ll be at Augusta next week as well and they drove uh drove their RV to Augusta and got it got it parked and set up for next week and uh flew here yesterday so got the got the squad here and um they’re
Excited to be back I’m excited to have them and I think everyone’s looking forward to the what’s ah had as well so you really got pressure to play well this week so it’s all good they uh they’re very supportive you know certainly my wife and daughter they you know they uh they
Think the same of me regardless of how I play so um it’s fun to be back here and this this place being able to stay right on site here and um the the girls are at the water park today and um maybe uh maybe try and join them for for a few
Laps in the pool or a few slides uh this afternoon but um it’s a it’s a beautiful place and we’re we’re all thrilled to be back okay well Cory we sure appreciate your time and we wish you the best of luck this week thankk you thanks
