Nelly’s back on top for the first time since August of 2023 with her win at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship. She has one of the best swings on the LPGA Tour, arguably one of the best in the world, and the 2012 Teacher of the Year Michael Breed is joining us to break it all down. Learn what Nelly does in her swing that keeps her at the top of the LPGA world and how you can apply it to your swing.

So let’s take a little look at Nelly Corda golf swing it’s one of the best swings on the LPGA Tour one of the most consistent iron players on the LPGA Tour and in my opinion one of the best swings in the game of golf and it starts with a
Fantastic setup position I love seeing the trail leg have a little bit more push towards the target so the the um Trail leg her right leg it’s not straight up and down let’s get a this camera angle here it’s not straight up and down this way it’s just kinked a
Little bit that way I love that address position that allows you to make a good rotation into the into the trail heel but not slide the hip she makes a beautifully turned back swing I love watching this so as she starts to take this back look at that and this is really fun
To watch so at a dress you see this dot right here pay attention to that dot right there cuz what she’s going to do is she’s going to turn this back it’s never going to get past that dot and in fact at the top here it’s going to open
Up now you can see that space in between her hip and that line that I’ve drawn look at how much space she has there that is a wonderful rotation of the body and now look at the top look at how much turn she’s gotten out of her shoulders
Again this is an iron one of the things that that you lack in your motion is body rot rotation proper body rotation you’re thinking about turning your upper body well she’s getting the upper body Rotation by turning her lower body correctly and when you turn the lower
Body correctly you free up the upper body to turn correctly which is exactly what she does now when she gets settled at the top of the Swing what I want you to see is the shaft of the golf club is going to be above her head there and I don’t know if
That’s the exact position of the top of the the back swing yeah that’s probably better to let it go a little bit farther there now what I want you to watch is when she starts the downswing her hips are going to start to go forward before she finishes the back
Swing and that’s going to drop down I’m going to tell you that and I’m going to show you that so let’s go just a little farther back right about here now watch her lower body how it stopped turning and it’s starting to shift you see that shift right there that’s the shift that
Drops the shaft now below her hair which sets a little bit of the angle she’s going to have a little bit of a bend in her in her lead arm we talk about idiosyncrasies that players have this is what uh what she does Nelly does
With her her lead arm she gets a little bit of Bend in there but she gets a tremendous amount of set in the downswing because what she does is she starts that lower body moving towards the target before she finishes the the back swing so now this is pulling and it
Starts to set the club in the downswing it’s a wonderful wonderful position that she has now she starts to come down look at the lag she has in here this is phenomenal potential power and she’s one of the longer hitters out there on the LPGA Tour continues to drive the hands
Towards the golf ball and towards the target That Elbow now comes a little a little bit more obvious that it’s bent there a lot of great players have done that when you see this position of last parallel before contact you can also see that the butt end the club is now
Touching her thigh that’s one of the critical spots for me when I’m looking at a golf swing I want to see the handle of the golf club touch that thigh I want the shaft of the golf club to be parallel or slightly above parallel it’s exactly what Nelly does here and then
When she comes into impact what you’re going to notice here is this wonderful sustaining of that shaft lag but look at how the shaft now has some lean in it that has about 7even degrees of lean at a dress there she is at at at I’m sorry at a dress she
Has about three degrees of lean at impact she has seven degrees of lean look at how Dynamic she looks at impact and then what you’re going to notice too is and this is a very popular thing that we’ll see I want you to focus on her
Heel right here watch how at a dress obviously that heel is on the ground at impact that heel with an iron with an iron it’s in the air that’s how she’s pushing off that ground that’s another way to create power so you you get that lag you push off the ground that way
Which is how she does that and then into a very very balanced position the heel is now up into the air you can see it spinning around on the toe wonderful length and pull out of the arms right here love seeing that and now she replants up
Into a very very forward this is what I love about this when I can go from the ear down to the heel and I have a straight line there I love seeing that the there’s no hang back in that so she’s pushed up but she’s moved forward
It’s one of the best swings in all of golf and certainly one of the best swings on the LPGA Tour

Great to see your swing analyses once again, Michael. I used to watch your show all the time on the Golf Channel many years ago.
You stated at the beginning that Korda has one of the best swings in the LPGA tour and the game of golf.
What constitutes a great swing?
Leaving putting and chipping aside, I figure you are talking about the full iron/hybrid/wood/driver swing.
What are the criteria for a good swing?
-Consistency? (Reliability)
-Distance?
-Accuracy? (Validity)
-Repeatability?
If those are the criteria, then someone like Moe Norman would have the best swing of all time. (I don't include wins because that's more of an all-around game AND mental fortitude.) I figure that it doesn't matter what your swing looks like (compare Furyk, Raymond Floyd, DeChambeau, Scheffler, and Jake Knapp), as long as it is reliable and accurate with repeated results and decent distance.
Great analysis…thanks Coach!
Yada yada, move the lower body first. Wish it was that easy.
Her swing is a thing of beauty. I love videos like this. Have you ever analyzed Fred Couples swing like this Michael?
Why make excuses for her swing faults.?
Yes, she has some good features, but her swing is better as a cautionary tale, for the most part.
Keep your left arm straight. Especially, at impact…no excuses
Keep your heels on the ground…no excuses.
Peace.
She also said that she actually hits down on her driver. 0.5° but not hitting up nevertheless. This is a huge point that many amateurs could take away. Guys got their shoulders tilted way too much at setup and they hit the ground behind the ball, or snap hook it. Dont need to hit up
