Everton Takeover ANSWERS NEEDED! Forest Appeal Decision! LIVE

Nottingham Forest have decided to appeal their Premier League points deduction which they were handed last week for breaching spending rules. The four-point penalty saw them sink into the bottom three with nine games of the season remaining, however a successful appeal could have a major impact on Everton’s final league standing.

Host Ian Croll is joined by Paul Wheelock and Luke Davies to discuss the latest on all of the above.

You expect that to to come in bit of both really because obviously they were going to get duck six points originally and then the the commission took two points away to get four and I think You’ think that was a bit of a result wouldn’t you considering that their

Breach was Far higher than everson’s in terms of the loss that they made by PSR ruling so you you you did wonder if if that they just take the medicine and and that’ be that but maybe they’ve looked at it and the fact that Everton had a successful appeal and you wonder if

They’ll they cited Everton in the original case didn’t they really H you wonder if they’ll cite us again in in the fact that we we got we got some points back from our first breach uh so yeah bit bit of both really Le’s probably you know what it’s probably

Worth a shot isn’t it from forest point of view hope they don’t win I know that sounds really sad to say because that’s what football’s become at the moment hasn’t it you know we’re we’re depending on other you know clubs getting points deductions and whatnot we discussed on

Uh on Friday’s podcast didn’t we but bit of both really I thought they may they may have just said you know what we’ll take that we know what we’ve got to do now for the rest of the season but it’s probably worth a shot because EV have proven that the the first points

Deduction that they got was uh was not right at all yeah absolutely Luke you know just from a a younger ever Generations points of you and what what have you made of this whole you know debacle it’s not just football nowadays that decides things it’s it’s spreadsheets it’s it’s legal haens it’s

It’s everything else that we don’t want to be talking about it’s it’s a bit of a shambles isn’t it it is a bit of a shambles I think got time just sort of it’s like being a politician TR to understand all the commissions and everything that’s going on you need to

Be an accountant and a lawyer as well but I think if you root it back to like as never told any football fan you want to go to the grounds or watch on tell whatever you want to do and enjoy football maybe hard at times OB because

We’re not the best but you don’t want that looming over you when maybe when when you do win a game you’re thinking oh will this count are we going to get more points taken off us and I think it’s just a bit un saavy for everyone even obviously Forest are relegation

Rivals but you never want to see a club of like nothingham for the stat go down because of points deduction obviously because it’s against us I’d want us obviously to stay up over them but you look at leester as well and you just think like is this really what football

Is now it’s sort of sucking all the fun out of the game I think great point there Paul because I had a conversation yesterday on the the phone with a a fellow blue and we were talking about like these 50 page documents that the Premier League releases every time

There’s a decision and like I just think how how you can read through the whole of that document and to try and articulate everything that has been said you know I I I certainly can’t do it and you know you obviously people are probably smarter than me who do the

Exact same thing and they they’re managing to get the the key points out there and sometimes it can take days for these points to come out can’t you might get the first couple of instances of oh this is what was said and then a couple of days later you might get another line

Like well that’s controversial that’s ridiculous I it it’s just not what the game needs at this moment in time no no it’s it’s football supporters we shouldn’t have to understand those kind of like technical legal terms really because as as Luke says you you don’t go

To game you don’t follow your clubs for those reasons really and you know it’s as I said I’m frid’s podcast it sucked a lot of the enjoyment of this season I out of it for me because obviously we’re on a really poor run 11 games about a

Win which would be harder than any stage but it’s like you know the draws we’ve had recently was you know sucker points of Brighton wasn’t it when they scored late on Palace game was really poor but then we scored the late equalized you just don’t know anymore what a good goal

Is or what a point is it a good point is it a bad point is it you know is that is that a huge win is that you know you there’s so much uncertainty really and like I’m six of the back teeth of it really and I’m probably the first time

Round when we got the 10-point deduction I was really really angry like a lot of evertonians was and icid to read over those kind of documents and poured over them because you want to find out why they’ve done this this kind of time around they’ve been a bit like kind of

Turned bit more of a blind eye to it the forest stuff to be honest because just bit bit tired of it all and like I know we’re going to come on to Everton’s appeal and I just whatever whatever happens I hope we don’t get hit too hard

Uh but I just want it done as quickly as possible I just want to know how many points we need I’m sure far his fans are the same how many points they need to stay up early Luke to the to the like impact then of of this appeal because

It’s going to probably impact Everton’s it could potentially impact Everton standing in the league do do you see this as a is a bit of a risk for Forest because when when we first got our appeal I I I was of the opinion that even if we appealed and we were

Unsuccessful it would be fine that we wouldn’t have any more points taken off us but apparently that is the case isn’t it so Forest they’re playing a bit of a risk here because we’ve got six they’ve got four they could easily end up with you know more points taken off quite

Easily feasibly you know they could get more points back but is it a risk for them to be doing what they’re doing yeah it looks like a risk from the outside but maybe they have information that sort of wear not privy to as well and then you think obviously we’ve won our

First appeal same so sort of set the president maybe for if everyone appeals he might get a little bit back or and then I think if they lose the appeal I give the arguments against Everton and then you sort of balancing them up against each other so I think there must

Be reasons why Forest have done that appeal because otherwise I think it’ be too big of a risk to maybe have more point taking from them do you think they’re just trying to like tell the Premier League now we’re like we’re going to appeal this because we don’t

Think we’ve we’ve done anything wrong I think at times it’s some it’s the fans as well I think pressure from the fans is huge in terms of stuff like this like You’ seen our fans as well like with the banners and everything after in the United game the first one after the our

Deduction it’s like you sort of have to appeal it just to sort of even just throw your weight about just to say like we’re going to fight this to show your fans because otherwise it just looks like you’re sitting back and you’re taking it and then you you get all the

Other arguments about like why AR Man City being jards type thing so I think that plays a big factor into it as well there was a bit of a conspiracy Paul on S when Forest first off got their Four Points St they got a len in punishment

So they wouldn’t appeal yeah I don’t know if you’ve seen that obviously just a couple of you know tweets that are so obviously that’s that is not the case now no no it’s I say it’s just quite surprised because I think all the kickoff that came from everson’s

10-point deduction I think if they would have hit us with four initially not saying we wouldn’t have appealed against it because Luke rightly says there I still think there would have been you know there would have been a lot of anger again points deducted uh I just wonder if everything that would have

Followed would have followed if you know what I mean because I think they they made a rod for their own back didn’t they the Premier League by going so high so soon at 10 and the fact that we managed to get them to climb the commission a new commission to climb

Down four points I can actually understand where Forest come from I say clever people than me on know if they if they’re risking it and like potentially going to get a couple point more if they if they fail in the appeal but it just feels like as we were saying on Friday

It feels like they’re making it up as they go along clearly they’re not the clearly clever people who are on these commissions well well they’ve certainly got the legal expertise haven’t they but it does seem like on each case from what we’ve seen off these first two and the

Are appeal who knows so is it might it might be just worth a go might it might be just worth a go on there there account maybe the next independent commission will come along and go actually shouldn’t have had any points at all like so I don’t know he might be

Ever but they might not have any common sense don’t know whe Common Sense come into it or not I don’t know um they had seven days to appeal and the appealed on the seventh day literally probably appro fast approaching the deadline is that a bit of gamesmanship from forest do you

Think I think obviously the must have been M and over it there must have been certain sections apartments in the club that maybe thought let not appeal because obviously what you mentioned it may get worse but I think even maybe they’ve even battered it off as well and

Thought oh we’ll leave it a few days see what happens see what the fans react is but obviously it’s come to head on the last day where they’ve had to make a decision and they’ve gone for the appeal so we we’ll await what happens with that yeah Paul seen an interview um this

Morning on Twitter with the chair of the Nottingham Forest supporters trust Andy cadle I think that’s how you pronounce his name he was basically arguing that Forest breach only basically lasted over a period of of two months and subsequently that means it was only three games so I think this is in with

Regards to the transfer of um Johnson isn’t it so obviously he’s basically arguing that their punishment based on on that fact should be far less severe H it can’t be a mitigation that that cannot be a mitigation because brenon Johnson’s qualities was was well known well before then I’m sure they would

Have had offers before the cut off period which would have been June the 30th and and Everson had to do that we had to sell rich charison like you know if if Rich charison had have been sold at that time God those what rpsr breach would have been like you know like would

Have been a significantly high in terms of Financial and then who knows if maybe we would have had like to stand on in terms of like you know when we appealed that initial 10-point deduction so they can’t argue that like you know I’ve seen uh a guy used to cover Burnley for their

Local paper Burnley Express cor Chris Bowden big Burnley fan and he’s rightly saying on Twitter today uh after after follow the appeal against their decision like well Burnley have come up and yeah they they spent a bit of money and they’ve changed the squad but nothing like compared to Forest like pretty

Clear even to you know like the Layman and to to People Like Us who aren’t legal experts when Forest was spending all that money everyone in the back of the Mind were thinking God they must be you know with with financial fair play profit and sustainability rules

Beginning to show the teeth they’ve got to be risking it here you know and and they clearly have and like if their argument is oh well it’s only three games because they’re the ones that Brandon Johnson played and the counter argument’s got to be he should have sold

Them earlier you know like we’re not innocent parties are we everon and this but to be fair in these periods that we’ve been found to breach the rules or certainly the first one we were found guilty we admitted that the second one we being charged again we sold big

Players haven’t we you know sold Rich charison sold anony Gordon who was really good for England on his debut on Sunday so doesn’t hold much weight for me that the Fest argument and one of the lowest net spends over the past five seasons in in the league as well yeah

Yeah oh like yeah no one can argue that over the the years we’ve we’ve wasted a fair bit of money certainly you know you’re probably talking four five years ago maybe six years ago now aren’t you uh but like in recent years like we’ve seen it haven’t we we’ve seen our best

Players leave and the players we have brought in have either like say someone like be where we’re we’re paying for in the future or maybe you get players as good as Anana but someone who’s again one for the future isn’t he you know with with the days of us buying

This this second breach and what’s going come out of it I just think because we’ve already won an appeal you sort of come away from not feeling a bit more positive okay but like honestly it’s sort of a a flip of a coin really whether you get them back it’s like

Again it’s like going into the legal and accountancy matters of it and you think does that play a factor obviously they are two separate charges so really if you looked at it legally they’re two separate things and you shouldn’t like go off each other but it’s got to in

Some way you’ve got to think how they’ve already been charged for this obviously all the hassle at the premier we’ve got because of that from the club from our fans I don’t know if it’s easier for them sort of just not write it off but

To sort of be a bit more lenient with us this time because obviously we did have the up hand with with the appeal last time so you’ve got to think like what what the premier leag turn of achieve you like what’s the what’s the end result do you want everyone to be

Compliant with financial Fair Play Because I just don’t can’t ever see a way the way that happens to be honest Paul we don’t know the numbers of this whether it’s been a major breach or you know a Mana breach I think obviously that’s going to come out in due course

But I need a little bit more confidence with this one or less confidence I suppose with the mitigation that we’re obviously going to maybe Express and put forth when I say the mitigation I mean there’s obviously a double double jeopardy whether we that comes into play we don’t know we know

That the Russia Ukraine war is going to play a part it’s got to I just don’t see how certainly with the USM um usmanov connection and stuff like that so like say confidence or not really not sure really not sure got to be honest uh like the mitigation didn’t work first time

Around and again in the appeal they didn’t seem to suggest that was a factor again for them but it dep like I say we have been rightly critical of the whole process haven’t we you know it seems all over the shop from one commission to the next

Uh and whether you know whether this is what the vet Premier League clubs voted for it the people who are suffering are the supporters at the moment and and and I don’t know what the next commission’s going to make a decision of and well I

Think Joe Thomas has said it a fair bit on this podcast as well asn’t he I think what we have to kind of hold back is we just don’t know how much we’ve breached it by kind of thing you know was it last time was it 19.5 million say if it’s

Double that or more I don’t know purely speculating here you you do worry then that we might not have a leg to stand on but as Luke lightly says it’s the double jeopardy thing as well isn’t it really you know uh can you punish a club for

You know for breach for for basically two for the same charge twice but I think what they tried to argue last time there was a positive trend wasn’t there a lot of depend to me on just just how big the breach is this time but hopefully the fact of that foris got

Four we’ve got six you know that would play in our favor but I am I I I do fear we will get another Point deduction to be honest and you know I think anything up to four and we’re right bang We’re In It Anyway aren’t we but anything up to four like

Forest have gotten we’re rely in it really so yeah I’m I’m confident that the fact that there seems to have been from that first 10o deduction there seems to have been a bit more common sense if that’s don’t that’s the right way but you know what I mean it seems

Like there’s a bit more room for maneuver but I I still do worry that you will get another one yeah my concern is just that like before Forest got their points deductions I was thinking theyve got a get the same you know if not more and then they don’t and then it’s kind

Of like well where does that leave ever and how is that fair I mean we we’ve been through all this but L we’ve got a question here from a regular contributor so two wheel Lucas I read it out for you um on YouTube he says if Financial fair

Play is not fit for purpose which it isn’t shouldn’t all sanction sanctions be held until a new system is agreed upon in the summer break I I think it clearly doesn’t we it clearly benefits clubs that bring in a lot more money hence Man City Man United

Liverpool them type of clubs then you additional clubs like Forest Everton even Villa to an extent Villa that really on sort of the precipice of where they can push on their top four top five now but they can’t spend money and they even might even have to sell some of

Their best players so it’s sort of creating a bit of an elite club not that it hasn’t always been like that in a way but sort of creating like a top six and not really letting anyone in there so it’s like a glass ceiling to to the

Likes of every even your Brighton West them type of teams but I think in terms of maybe an independent regulator certainly needs to come in just genuinely in football at the moment I think last week we discussed um a bill was passed in Parliament about an independent regulator and I think G

Neville’s sort of the biggest fan of them he mentioned it quite a lot so I think we’re going to see a lot of change in football in general I think in the next five years and basically with the financial fair play rules I think you

Need to be set in stone but they need to sort of not benefit everyone but it needs to be fair for everyone I mean we’ve talked about this Paul haven’t we but because of forest’s appeal decision now this is just going to lead to the league not being finished

On the date that it’s meant to be finished isn’t it the only way I can say it now because obviously Forest are further ahead in the process aren’t they but this appeal is going to knock it back if for instance days after the leagues me to finish is that right yeah

They’ve got up to a week haven’t they which is just the far the only way th and Everson perspective I suppose if we have the hearing this week and then say next week or the week after like middle of April they go it’s a twoo deduction

And then you kind of go we don’t appeal against it and we just take our medicine and go I think that’ be it won’t be the ideal scenario because I don’t want any more points off but I just want to get to a point as soon as possible where you

Know your Fate’s in your own hands aren’t you your Destiny’s in your own hands so uh yeah it’s it’s got it if if we get to the situation where the last week of the Season Everton and Forest they’re appealing against their points reduction and we don’t both clubs don’t know it’s

It’s bringing the league into disrepute imag if the L A points in between each other yeah I’m pretty sure unless we really pick up form we’re going to go into the last couple of games aren’t we in danger really and like it it will

Make it a f and like the thing is not good for the products you know like all the the big TV companies it could be about Liverpool Man City and Arsenal going for the title and then how can you have a relegation last day decided or stuff like that like last season because

You could have two teams who could go down or stay up a week later it’s just it needs it needs to be sorted well before then but I I’ve got no faith it will be or can he I mean they’re not going are they but can he delay it and

Just push things to the summer and then if you know ever were to get the points deduction the second one that points deduction would go to to next season would that be a gamble even in itself to te well but then as Luke said you got Lester hav you Lester there’s a good

Chance they’ll come back cup and there’s a possibility they’ll start next season or even in the championship with with a points deduction kind of thing so it doesn’t seem fair that they’ve pushed but other clubs may have argued like Everton’s first points deduction should been last season I get that I get that

But it doesn’t seem fair that we the test case who going to have two potentially two and then you’ve got Leicester who’ve also been found guilty of breaking Financial rules last season but their point struction is going to be next season it’s just it’s just all over

We’re up to with this because what is it six months now since uh they were quite shatty at the start weren’t they you know uh micher was quoted on the the statement when he said that he agreed the sale to 777 and obviously uh 777 if

You’re a season ticket all they got a a an email from them didn’t they they were very chatty at the start but it’s gone very quiet since and like in that silence let’s face there’s been a lot of articles that fill it and it doesn’t fill you with like loads of confidence

About about them as a potential owners for this club got to be honest uh I’m really torn between the the deal falling apart and what that would mean everon financially because if maeri has said that’s enough then that’s a very worrying situation to be in because then we hope

If not a white knight comes forward you know you’re going to you’re going to need someone to help Finance the club because it’s clear at the moment 777 are doing that uh but yeah we need an update we need an update like the the Premier

League let’s face it for most of us a lot of the time this season they’ve been the bad guys for us and can’t argue with that over the the 10-point deduction how how bad that was handled but I’m pretty sure they’re not doing this to part like you know make it worse

For evertonians they’re probably asking questions that need to be asked and I imagine it’s around how 777 are going to finance this club not just for the rest of the season but going forward and we yeah we need an update because it’s just another thing as as Luke said like God

It’s not about the football anymore is it for us if it’s not points deductions it’s about who’s going to own the club and things like that but it’s it’s going on a long time this now isn’t it it feels like we need to know if not either

Way just where we’re up to with it Lu there’s obviously being a lot of I’m sure you’ve read it all all the negative reports regarding Triple 7 and you know everything that they’ve done in the past in football and you know what what they’re do and now and stuff like that

But they’re the main you know they’re the ones who are in Pole Position You’ probably say to to take over um take over the club so what what what is the Bene beneficial situation in your opinion you know is it them coming in and hopefully steadying the ship is it

Then being knocked back mached maybe coming back in taking over the run on the club or another perspective I coming in I think to be honest the longer it goes on it does make you question that there has to be issues there if it goes on for this long like if anything takes

Six months to be done there has to be issues there you hear all the stories from different clubs like Gena standard the age s and then there’s a Brazilian Club as well you think all of them teams I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence but they’ve took a dip in form there’s

Issues around like payments of training grounds allegedly with genua I think and then you just think there can’t be there can’t be smoke fire and I think there has to be something that is stopping the Premier League allowing this to pass through and I think as we’ve just

Mentioned yet they have been the bad guys but I think in this situation it’s good that you need to pass a f and proper owner test because you know they’re going to be the custodians of one of England’s best football clubs in obviously in our opinion one of the most
