Danielle Collins (USA) speaks with Tennis Channel after her quarterfinal win over Caroline Garcia (FRA).
But it wasn’t a day off for this young lady who was sitting at our Tennis Channel Cadillac desk who was very impressive today Danielle you gota you got to have a huge smile on your face after that performance yeah I mean I definitely played some of my best tennis
Out there and um you know I said when I woke up today I was like I I’m so happy I play at one o’clock because this will leave me some time to get to the golf course so yeah uh smooth sailing for me and and now off to some golf uh well
We’ll pick up the tennis in a sec is that a new habit have you been it’s a new hobby um and I’m not great at it but I do enjoy it so that’s the main thing do you go Marty fishy and kind of go on the backhand side or do you play
Right-handed I’m right-handed but I’ve tried left and I feel like I’m equally as bad on both sides so uh I need some lessons so if there’s anyone out there watching that could give me some uh tips on my swing I’d be happy to hear those you’ll get a flood
Of DMS after this interview I’m sure um let’s let’s talk about this tennis here for a minute first through the tournament after you dropped that first set against Bernarda Pera you haven’t even gone past three a 6-3 in a set you’ve looked so good all the way
Through what are you putting together so well this week yeah um you know I feel like I’ve made a lot of physical improvements um over the last couple of weeks um and made some adjustments uh within my game technically with those physical improvements so I think that’s
Helping me a lot with uh the Accura accuracy and precision of my shots um getting more consistent in these points points and um doing really well in the longer rallies but also um you know playing my aggressive game style and taking advantage of uh the points um
Early something I’ve always been a fan of with your game is is is your body language you know you’re always so positive out there and just super fiery and my question is a lot of players sometimes that can work to their detriment and you’ve seem to make it
Work as a positive for you how how tricky is that balance yeah I think you know for most people it’s like you know you’re either very pumped and excited or you be a little bit more down in the dumps and I’ve certainly had to work on it and obviously you know you don’t
Always feel super pumped um and sometimes you have to try to work through those challenging days but um I think with the way I’m playing it’s there’s certainly a lot to be pumped about so um it I like to show the positive uh body language and I like you
Know the fan support that I’m getting here is is amazing and so that fires everybody else up and keeps everyone engaged and so um try to have the best attitude I can out there and and uh especially for the young kids watching Carolyn’s been playing some fantastic
Tennis she beat Naomi Osaka here she beat Coco go here and she ran into she ran into a buz saw today you’ve had a really good record against her in the past is there something about this matchup that really works for you yeah I mean I think it’s really interesting how
You know certain players match up well against some players and then other times you know it’s it people struggle against certain uh matchups um I feel like against Koo um all of our matches have been very close um even though we haven’t played a three set match they’ve
Been very close and the games are always do sad do sad a lot of back and forth um and it just comes down to a couple points here and there I think what challenges me the most is the fact that Caro’s challenging me so much and that
Makes me have to concentrate a little bit harder the ball’s coming in fast so I’ve got to be really locked in and engaged and I think it really makes me be alert um and so that’s part of the reason why I’m playing so play so well
Against her um and yeah the matches are fun and we both have really great competitive spirit so um that always brings a fun element to it as well it certainly does especially for us to watch it’s beautiful you’re in the semis here 1000 level event last time was back
In 2018 when you did it as a qualifier now now your final year here what’s what’s the biggest difference between that Danielle and this Danielle well I definitely think the outfit the outfit game this tournament is like yeah it’s it’s fire I really like it um yeah so
Free People shout out to Free People movement um yeah this this outfit is kind of uh my favorite so I think that’s probably the biggest difference that I know um I played really great tennis that year too um but I was relatively new on to her and um you know still
Learning lots of new things I’m still learning now of course but I have more experience under my belt and uh we’re playing at a different facility so that’s a different vibe different energy here and I love that uh yeah I don’t know I’m just getting older I guess
Older Danielle D de no no no you’re getting better you’re getting wiser you’re getting more experience um so you move into the semis now and as we talked about not too much stress on the body with the beautiful tennis that you’ve been playing does it feel like you know
What I’ve been at this tournament for a week and a half or you still feel relatively fresh yeah I mean I have to say the the hospitality here has been fantastic I love the facilities here I mean we really get to feel like professionals
This week this is the type of um this is the type of fac fa ities that we want to play at we have everything we need here and being from Florida I’m a little bit I’m a little ways away from home I’m staying in a fantastic resort with a
Beautiful Golf Course getting out there every day um and so that just makes it more enjoyable too I’ve got my dog here he’s at daycare so I got to go pick him up before we beautiful hit the golf course so yeah it’s it’s so much fun having these uh these weeks in the
States and being close to home winning some tennis matches playing a little golf sounds like a beautiful two we you’re having here um there have been a bunch of messages that come in and the general gist of it is Danielle please don’t go please don’t go so any any any
Thoughts of reconsidering oh I mean at this point probably not I mean I’m doing pretty well out here um and enjoying it having a lot of fun um but you know I’m ready for the next phase in my life and I’ve really enjoyed this but I I think
Yeah it’s time for me to close the page at the end of the year and I love all the support and people that are encouraging me and and so positive and um but yeah you know this is life so wishing you absolutely all the best you deserve all the happiness after tennis
But um you still got some business here so keep it going right that’s right Danielle Collins ladies and gentlemen moving on to the semi-finals here in Miami for the first time since 2018 with an impressive 63 62 Victory the girl is fired up and looking great

Collins is world class!
Beautiful woman!
I hope she goes all the way💪
Going out guns a blazin🦾
Collins is an amazing player, the only thing that's a little irritating about her behavior is the arrogant style and foul language she sometimes uses on the court.I wish you good luck on your way to the trophy 🎾🎉
Why she retire this year? She looks still not old
rooting for you danimal, and the wristbands are fantastic! 🏳🌈
Danielle please stay just for 2 years that will be appreciated. The US young generation still need to look up to you
Love Danielle. Hope she wins some big titles this year. Such a bright light on tour. She will be missed. She has a very high tennis IQ and human empathy.
Really love this Daniel . She deserves it
Danielle is a fighter…I love that.
She has alot of game to go with her screeching. The tour is grueling, don't blame her for taking the money and running. Look at Barty.
Eres un encanto
Garcia has no answer to Collins' fierce backhand
Danimal!! She's so dope. I hope South Florida will come out for her in the semis. Let's GOOOOOOOO!!!
Bellisima Figura Preciosa❤❤❤❤
I agree, loved the Indian Wells outfit. Danielle is an inspiration for being able to compete the way she has despite two painful chronic health conditions.
