On Friday afternoon um I think my takeaway from vbar was you know it’s another great example of whatever you think is a sure thing in golf and you think is going to happen um this is a philosophy that that I’ve have done very well deploying and and Kobe

Has done even even better than me deploying but um you know it’s golf uh whatever you think is going to happen isn’t as much of a sure thing uh as you may think and Peter Mady was like you said somebody that I I wouldn’t have

Expected in a million years to to win on the PGA tour uh in 2024 given given his skill set um and given how behind the eightball that he is uh from a ball striking standpoint particular on a course like valbar that you would think would emphasize ball

Striking to a certain degree and would do you know of course Peter mon Peter Mady leads the field and strokes gained off the t uh which again was just not something I remotely had of my bingo card I don’t it might have been round four I don’t think he he was still very

Good the overall tournament yeah and he and he puted the lights out um but you know Sam Burns miss the cut spe uh minwoo a a bunch of I mean most people great yeah Harmon missed a cut Xander um Xander yeah Xander came in late and and Xander actually kind of

Saved saved the week for me um 25% Doug gim no birdies over the weekend I want to say um so you know it was a it was a a tough week for everyone involved I I had a lot of lineups that I thought were toast and ended up doing better than I

Would have thought just because so much chalk missed the cut I mean Kobe won a 100 Grand with a five of six right so um that’s the interesting thing is like we never believe that a five of six can win like the $20 $202 200k someone W in a five of six

Yeah so it’s possible it’s extremely possible but he also had Milady our guy Gary in the RPS Gary in the heavy irons Kobe Gary finished 23 Gary and Kobe got a five of six I don’t remember Gary’s lineup I want to say he had a he may have had a six of

Six but yeah Kobe won 100K in in that contest with a five of six I don’t know what Gary’s lineup looked like but Gary six six he yeah he finished second in that Kobe contest and won well over 100k whatever Gary the best professional fisherman in the Miami area I learned

The 5K range I’m like there are one two three four five six seven nine viable plays all most of whom last week were Strokes gain T to Green top players or at least plus players good plus players T to green and the mid-range eights of course are terrible again and I thought

You know a 13k chefer you could do Min one of Windam Min one to two of Windam toala who I love this week and Scotty in a lineup and still have a very viable lineup we’ll get to that so yes I Scotty needs to be this is H hyperbolic but I

Mean he needs to be about 20K in order for you to think about it at this point but now you got him in Texas he’s got two top 10 here at Memorial on a very long Course Long par 70 in the Wind where he’s clearly clearly I mean look

At the form recently of Sheffer Windam tala one two one two and tala’s been six and nines it’s not even close they’ve been the three best golfers on tour except for Milady um but let me ask you this because this is a municipal course um it it’s a par 70 it’s it’s

It’s long it’s pretty wide the greens are pretty big it’s nothing um it it’s nothing that seems out of the ordinary in terms of design you get the wind because it’s Texas it’s Houston again a very long par 70 but you still see some whole some some scores here

Winning scores that are in the low teens right which listen there’s three par fives they’re more difficult par fives than the Autos scoring par fives we Ty Ally see on tour there’s three of them but they don’t score super easy no and I think that is the issue you’ve got long

Par fours you got some short par fours but long par fours long irons and you got to make putts so riddle me this on this course yeah that you think would be a municipal it’s you know it’s pretty B it seems bomb and gouy why are they not

In the mid 20s low 20s two words Tom do um well a couple things on on the golf course that I think we should h on off top uh uh a couple things on the golf course that I think we should hit on um so first of all this event the last three

Years was played in November um now it’s going to be played in late March and I was talking a lot uh with Kobe about this over the weekend because he lives about 10 minutes from the golf course he’s played the golf course dozens of

Times so I asked him what is going to be the difference between a Houston open in in late March as opposed to November in terms of course conditions um and he said well you know it’s generally a drier time in Houston so I would think that the course would maybe play a

Little bit firmer and faster even if we don’t get overseed um but we did get overseed they just released uh with the PGA fact sheet that the greens are going to be overseed the rough is going to be overseed the fairways are going to be overseed yeah and that’s something that we typically

See this time of year um on Southern Bermuda courses in a warmer climate right we saw it at TBC sass we saw it in Phoenix we saw it at the vbar where in the spring um The Bermuda is dormant and so they overseed the greens with the

Poet trivialis and now what does that mean uh basically the greens play more like carpet they take a lot of the grain out of it the greens become less more receptive the rough becomes less variable it becomes easier to hit out of this is why you know we’ve seen at the

Players uh it’s a lot easier to control your ball out of that r rough as opposed to the variability that you get with true Bermuda rough um and so if I had to make a guess Wy I would imagine that because of the overseed this golf course

Is going to play easier now in late March than it would in November now what’s the other thing to consider with overseed and this will transition us right back into Sheffer um overseed greens makes life a lot easier for Scott Sheffer uh Scotty Sheffer has won four

Times already in his career on overseed greens Scotty’s best potting surface is over seated Bermuda um he’s won the Players twice on overseed Bermuda he’s won the Phoenix Open twice on overseed Bermuda every single time that I have played Scotty this year it’s been on overseed Bermuda and now we get once

Again an overseed Bermuda to golf course for Scotty Sheffer that even if you are the more pessimistic about Scotty having figured his putter out uh well even when Scotty was pre Mallet he would always raise his Baseline and Putt better on overseed Bermuda um so I think that’s

Just very and and I break down I’ll be talking on the Discord all about how the overseed change affects the golfers that I want because I think a lot of content and people are not going to pay attention to this and realize that it’s overseed Bermuda I reran my whole model

Based on the course condition changes um but it’s I mean it’s it’s fascinating as it pertains to the to the Scotty debate this week yeah I mean anytime you wanted to I mean if you had to rely more on the putter to win here you could probably

Casually say Okay I found one reason to fade Scotty even though it’s Putters coming back into form but more Reliant like at the ax right Scotty’s worst finish of the year was the easiest course that he played all year the AMX yeah so but in terms of a long driver heavy it’s

Texas um where he’s going to have more success on the overseed good luck I mean it’s plus he has two top T here anyway yeah previously um he he always cares about winning in Texas um it’s Easter Sunday uh so you know we know you could view that in a positive light or

Or touched by Christ I mean you know Saul mentioned that Scotty will probably be teeing off at 2:30 pm on Sunday so he will easily have time to hit Sunday morning Easter Mass go on you know a little Easter egg hunt with at the Houston he flies on the wings of God I

Mean he every he is touched by God there’s no way I could already see Jim Nance building this narrative it’s like Scotty on Easter Sunday Jes distraction from K yes so so and and then you get a field that and we can go into pricing now you

Get to feeli that outside of the top outside of thep top I think tagala would give him his biggest challenge uh Windam Clark has given him his biggest challenge here recently but still in a different class below Scotty sheffler below that I mean if you look at let’s start this 97 Range Scotty

Jesus repor what’ you say Scotty Jesus Scotty he is do wait wait before we dive into anyone else can I just do one final thing on Scot um and just lay out the counterargument against Scotty this week because there’s going to be so much Scotty pandering and Scotty stroking and

Scotty group th um and so I just want to say that and I I tweeted this earlier this morning but you know this concept that Scotti is going to win every single week okay the best golfer the best golfer of of all time Peak Tiger Woods

Won between 27 and 35% of the time every time that he teed it up and it was actually a lot easier for Tiger to win then than it is for Scotty to win now because of the homogeneization of technology I mean you look at Scotty’s biggest competition right now is wendam

Clark Windham Clark wouldn’t be a top 500 player in the world in 1997 because of the way that he spends his driver um so like the the ability for Tiger to separate him himself during his peak in the early 2000s was so much easier than how it is

For Scotty to attempt to separate himself over like very good golfers because of technology and Tiger Woods still won like 30% of the time so you know I I guess I would say like if you’re telling me this is not a statement on uh whether I’m G to play

Scotty or not I always play Scotty on overseed vers Bermuda um but if Scotty’s plus 250 to win and the field is minus 200 are you taking Scotty plus 250 or the field minus 200 what do you think well I think that I think that the fields were better back in the day

Um compared to I don’t think so you don’t think so no compared to this I think even yeah I think even with the um even with the weev departure I mean I could do a a a data golf deep dive on this but I think even with the Liv

Departure it it’s it’s harder for Scotty to win now than it was for Tiger to win back then which is just a testament to how awesome Scotty is he’s not but by the way yes I said to I don’t know if people read these sort of subtitles

Because and we’ll go into this because of the range down low that’s so good the theory that Scotty has to win to me to justify that price I don’t think is the case because if you look at 97 and up okay let’s go see Kim and up see Kim

Strange price 97 still like the golfer you can do a rule of Sheffer toala or Windam Clark you could even do a Min two rule of that and still have a very viable lineup with what we can talk about going lower because really is any anyone gonna feel

Safe in the year 2024 the re the year of Our Lord Scotty sheffler on Easter Sunday be comfortable playing will zalatoris after getting recently burned hard and Tony phenow same price who who consistently Burns us hard um comparatively when Windam Clark and tagal are playing such incredible golf

On on a course that you know suits them so yeah I mean Kobe is the only person I’ve spoken to today that is not gonna play Scotty um and he wins all the money every week so maybe there’s Merit in that argument but um it’s it’s tough

To do especially with the um it’s a tough fade especially with the the floor like I would um I would I would take the field like if you’re asking me is it more likely that Scotty wins the tournament or the field I I’m I’m taking the field personally but um if you’re

Giving me over under finishing position on Scotty 5.5 I’m taking the under like I think he’s gonna finish top five um especially on this golf course on oversea Bermuda and I think because of the and now are there road maps to win a lot of money if

Scotty finishes Fifth and you fade him of course there are but you have to get a lot of to get a lot of things right um and so you know especially it’s Keith Mitchell seiw Kim Tom hogy top three sort of bash right and especially with

The pricing being the way it is where I think there are legitimately viable options in in the the fives and and the low sixes um I think there are I think there are a lot of ways to to do some fun stuff in a Scotty lineup

Uh would you play Scott and you know me and Tony talked about this at the Players let’s call him Scott sheffler let’s just start doing that yeah I’m down with Scott shefer me and Tony talked about this at at the um at the players of like all of our best lineups

At the players were Scotty at 128 and then who Scott Scott Scott sheer 128 and then you know you fade the nines and the T and drop down into like an a a lineup of of heavy 8K guys which work that the players with you know the Scotty sewo

Cory Connor stack so my question for you would be um if you’re playing Scotty what’s your favorite construction is it do you feel comfortable playing Scotty and wendam in the same lineup yeah is your favorite Scotty type of lineup fading a lot of nines and tens and dropping down into the eights or

On Earth he gets to 94 and I’m like well I don’t like norn anymore now should I play that way I’m I don’t play that way but I don’t like norin enough because I think it blocks out of the other things I like I don’t like day I do like seiw

Kim but I don’t know if I like him at 997 I don’t never like Tony fow anymore I’m stop chasing that dust ball um Keith Mitchell played fantastic last week and until Sunday until Sunday and then you’ve got the bo hostler Jagger hogy thing hogy uh what’s he done wrong for you not

Much uh second best iron player in the world right now to Scot great great long iron player great over 200 yards I think he’s got everything you need here um so if to answer your question you can do two comfortably would you need to I think a Min one

Rule is probably the way I’d go um and I think zalot torus if you like him and I do like him I think he’s gonna be the squeezed out for sure I mean I think I don’t know if you have early runs on ownership but 9.71% sounds good

For your final four spots and I I love Stephan joer this week I mean I love his fed at this golf course he’s finished ninth here in the past um I think think you need a really complete game to win around Houston like one of the things I

Didn’t mention in the course breakdown was this is the only Tom do course that we see on the PGA Tour all year I just spent a weekend playing Tom do courses flex and five you’re five to six yeah I’m up to five six for sure we’ll get

Past seven the show the day still young um and and I think what Tom do does really well that you don’t really see on the PGA tour very often is interesting green complexes and and really challenging fascinating heavily contoured green complexes with closely moan areas so around the greens at

Houston uh there’s barely any bunkers like Tom do took out all the bunkers because he said you know I understand that bunkers don’t challenge Tor Pros uh what really challenges Tor Pros is chipping off of tight line um to uphill heavily undulated greens and like joer is such a good chipper off

Of Short Grass he has such a good short game he’s such a good lag putter these are all things that Scotty’s great at too um but I just think the creativity that you’re going to need around the greens um which is why another feather in seah’s cap another feather in noren’s

Cap this is why Jason day’s been good here SEIU Kim’s great around the greens but I just think that creativity and touch around the greens is such a staple of Tom do courses um and I think it’s going to be really really really important this week Stephen bodish won

Twice in Texas great that he lives there um and I remember someone telling me he’s playing with Stephen or BTO B Bodo B and uh said he’s the best tight lie chipper he’s ever seen yeah that’s gonna be huge this week even yeah yeah because it’s a tough skill obviously especially

For a nonprofessional amateur um so that’s good to know now in the so in that range then 87 plus Jagger do you go back to him uh yeah okay um seeu Kim great around the greens you’re not paying attention to me I’m I’m I’m I’m I’m I’m talking in the

Yeah uh khle was one of the huge guys for for that that helped him out and KH Lee won the Houston open no he won Byron Nelson twice but he’s won in Texas yes okay Byron Nelson but I knew he’d won in Texas I think he beat Russell Henley but who doesn’t beat

Russell Henley yeah um and just to one more to put a bow on luk list I wrote about this in my article but I was asking Kobe about like what comp courses for Houston and I think it has some Southern Hill in there I think it has

Some Lac in there the tight runoffs area the the heavily undulated greens but Rivier was the first course that came to mind uh for Kobe in terms of Houston and and you look at it and it’s like a lot of Tony Fen now um there’s some other

Guys that I mentioned in the article as well that have been really good at Houston and Riviera too but that’s an that could be another feather for luk West who just finished second at Riviera this year because both Riviera and Houston the reason why they’re similar

Is I describe them as like death by th000 paper cuts courses they’re I like that comment yeah they’re there’s not a lot of water both of them rank bottom 10 and penalty struct around but they kind of bunkers yeah not a lot of water they just kind of meticulously break you down

Um and you just have to avoid Bogies on on those golf courses got to make a lot of pars and take your medicine there and Rivier is kind of that same type of around the green plays important heavily undulated green complexes middle to Long iron play power off the te is essential
