Colin Cowherd & Nick Wright debate whether a potential dynasty of Super Bowl trophies for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs is actually terrible for the NFL. Colin & Nick also discuss why the dynamic among Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach has paved the road to a lot of success so far for Kansas City.

Welcome to the official YouTube channel for the Colin coward podcast go on hit the Subscribe button there you go right down there if you want to be among the first to hear my weekly takes NFL college football more right there I don’t know if you remember me ever saying this but

I I’m a big believer that one of the best things to happen to the NBA was LeBron’s Heat team losing that first year because it made every other year of that era feel so much more important year two holy if they lose here they’re going to break it up year three

All right they won but we’ve seen them lose you know what I mean can they do it if they don’t do it then it’s not really that impressive anyway they win it year year four all right now they’re going for a three Pat Shack Kobe Michael whatever they lose I think the worst

Thing to happen not the worst thing but I think it was bad for the NBA that Durant and Steph won year one had they lost year one I bet Durant never would have left but because they won everyone’s like yeah we knew you would win that was too easy so I think

Sometimes like adversity can be good for long-term success of storylines whatever here’s why I bring all that up sneakily I think while it was exhilarating to watch and great for the legend of the player and the coach for NFL conversation next season I think the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl was a

Sneaky bad thing yes because now there is every NFL conversation is going to almost either implicitly or explicitly include like nobody is going to feel I think feel almost allowed to doubt the Chiefs like the CH you know if the Chiefs start 4 and four is anyone going

To feel comfortable being like well now they’re cooked you know what I mean like now there and so there is a level of because they looked so bad it was statistically record-wise all these things their worst year and then they won anyway and it’s not like well the

Bracket broke for them it’s like no they had to beat Buffalo Baltimore San Francisco how is it’s going to be a tough sell on any of those so what Kansas City is becoming is New England a more entertaining version so who beat New England in the Super Bowl the Giants

Twice by an inch and the Eagles on trick plays and maneuvering right um You got to a point in the AFC even young Mahomes nobody was at the end they had the cheat code they knew the Rubik’s Cube is Big ban and Pittsburgh were not sophisticated enough offensively uh

Payton Manning having to go to Foxboro again Andy Dalton roll your eyes flacko you know maybe be able to do it once but really they mastered the AFC they had a weak division they always played in Foxboro they always got the buy for older teams and it was like oh they win

A game and the AFC Championship that’s what Kansas City that’s why in harbot of the Chargers is good for the league now it’s like they they they can’t go on a two game losing streak now I don’t think the Chargers this year will quite be

There but I think what a what the Chiefs are becoming is their losses will only be in Super Bowls I I do not believe Burrow’s health is trustable I think Buffalo and Baltimore this was the year with a young KC offense in Kansas City having to travel I think Kansas City is

Going to be New England the AFC is overwhelmingly Because by the way there’s a really big chance you’re not going to get a quarterback as gifted as Josh Allen or as electric as Lamar or as accurate as burrow and if they can’t do it you may not and if they can’t do it

And two of them two of those three got their shot at him this year in their building and lost and lost and with a wounded Chiefs team that’s so it’s going to be McVey and Stafford that knock them off it’s gonna have to be when the San

Francisco 49ers the last couple of years when Kansas City or Philadelphia have literally marched up and down the field against that defense Jesus I mean you got boses you got Armstead you’ve got at the time hu funga Fred Warner linebackers marching up and by by the

Way demo Ryan was a DC a brilliant DC when you can’t when when San Francisco can’t stop people you get to a point of I mean like Kansas City was very rare you were like it was a great defense without outside of Chris Jones really not household names no but I think what

You’re seeing in the draft and I think Kansas City because that what makes their Dynasty so fascinating Andy Reed has never had an affinity for power he’s an artist he has affinity for creativity and play calling so I contend Pete Carol’s Dynasty lasts longer but Pete having been a college guy he liked

Controlling Personnel bellich at the end liked controlling personnel and he’s not into that and what makes this dynasty so frightening is that you’re never goingon to have a coach he’s an artist he’s not a big you know a lot of these guys seek power and he’s never sought power he

Seeks a good time Crea ity and play design and that that gives you a sense of because what broke up the Lakers sha and Kobe all dynasties they start with hard work and vision resilience and toughness maintains it and the corruption of power ends it New England bellich wanted control Riley Phil

Jackson KOB control uh the heedles at the end LeBron’s like it’s aging I want some control in Personnel Kansas City is like San Antonio Spurs Duncan didn’t want it right it Duncan had no interest in anything other than being affordable to the organization so the organization

Could draw that’s why they’ll never do a documentary they’ll never do a documentary on the Spurs there was no drama there well so there’s there’s Kansas City has a lot of edges on the sustainability here so the and this guy deserves credit dorsy was the you know head Personnel guy

There yes and Andy did want his guy in and his guy was vich yeah V who I think Andy told you this you know V was Andy’s assistant like you know what I mean like assistant when he came in so they have been together for V’s whole career vich

Also has on his resume that when he was a scout he was the guy who in Mahomes first year as a starter went into the Chiefs and said this is sorry my light’s screwing up but I’ll get it right said this is the best football player the

Best quarterback I’ve ever seen we need to get him and so now their process is Andy stays out of it entirely and then vich and Company bring him and spagnolo they they curate the L the names from 500 to 50 and say okay watch you we have

Our these are our guys that we think fit what you want whatever it is you guys watch these guys so instead of having to watch everyone you guys watch these guys give us your thoughts and then we do it cumulatively there also is to me an element of that helps the Chiefs that

Momes Andy was already a Hall of Famer when momes got there and so there wasn’t a bellich neither one of us did anything without each other there was almost like a fatherly respect there that one that one of them has and when momes signed his deal he said I wouldn’t have signed this

10year deal without believing Andy’s going to be here no so I just think that the fact that I don’t think there’s ever going to be uh Reed ego thing because it’s it is so much closer to a grandfather son Rel relationship than bich Brady ever could

Have been than you know than so many of these other things and Brett and Andy are in a spot where Brett understands like hey this guy is responsible for this you know me getting a lot of opportunities in my career and now that I am the guy I think he’s considered

Probably one of if not the best GM in football Andy’s in a place in his career where he likely doesn’t want to do a lot you know what I mean a lot of the stuff that some of the medling coaches would want to do because Andy wants to draw up

Plays and he wants to draw up plays and to do those things so it is it is a really unique situ setup they have where it’s not that people don’t have egos I think all of them have significant egos but their egos don’t step on each

Other’s egos if you know what I mean like they are they are looking for credit if that I don’t even know how much credit they’re looking for but they believe they’re great at distinct things that don’t really overlap with each other so they all can be the best at

What they do without needing to like Merit out credit for you know who gets credit for what in the Dynasty

  1. Nick has some good points (not that Colin didn't). We are lucky Pat grew up in pro sports, he sees being a pro like a job, a 24x7x365 job, not like "how to be rich and famous by 22 years old" sort of thing. This so far has kept him hungry, and his ego looking up, not down. Hopefully Veach can stay the same (not that I suspect or suggest anything.) Notice how Clark stays nearly out of the media, being a multi-billionaire and owning the winningest team in 20 years. Those 4 (Clark, Andy, Brett V, Pat), are being professionals each in their own positions and it makes us hard to beat over the long haul.

  2. Personally, I think it’s scripted like pro wrestling. This is why you see blatant errors like ez dropped passes, bad calls by refs, etc. Like Ric Flair said, not fake, choreographed. I think the reason why is Mahomes is mixed race, taking the torch from all American white boy Tom Brady. Witness all the race stuff in the Super Bowl. You’d think AA was 60% of the population. Put it this way, if the NFL is real, it would be about the only thing in this country that isn’t a fake scam. Politics, education system, health care, finance, banking, insurance, the legal system….

  3. To say the Eagles beat the Patriots because of "trick plays" is such a weak take. Colin must forget NE ran their own trick play but didn't execute

  4. The No Fun would be *fine* with a dynasty on I-95 or LA.
The fact that Mahomes and Co. operate out of small market like KC is the NFL's nightmare. LOTS less money for League revenue with this scenario.
But there is one thing we can all be thankful for. Just one.
At least it's not eff'ing Dallas.

  5. Good content bad editing every choppy cuts one even felt like you were cutting something said out but the conversations were good

  6. The Ravens will try to run the ball to keep Mahomes off the field. Not likely to work next season. Only the Bengals are the team, if Burrow is healthy, have a chance to dethrown the Chiefs. The chiefs have presumbalby built their defense, partly, in response to the Bengals past threat.

  7. PERSPECTIVE!!! OK- so NOW the Chief "Dynasty" is ONE of the TOP TEN dynasties in NFL history. Nice- TOP TEN! They are ONE THIRD of the way to TIE (NOT PASS!) the Brady/Patriots dynasty- ONE THIRD. You think it was hard getting to where you are NOW?!!! Let's see how you do over the next TWELVE YEARS….let that SINK IN! My money is on the Chiefs falling off a cliff over the next TWELVE YEARS….to TIE the Brady/Pats record- NOT PASS their dynasty – that would take MORE TIME/SB RECORDS- Yea, GOOD LUCK with that NICK!!!

  8. What are you talking about? The chiefs generate more revenue than anyone. The nfl will make sure the “new goat” storyline continues for the next decade.

  9. I will say dynasty’s are super boring so really hoping the Chiefs one is over. Heres to hoping.

  10. it's great for the league… going from an evil empire to a new evil empire

people thought the Patriots were never gonna lose in the playoffs after their 3rd chip

  11. DIdn't watch when the cursing started. It does not ADD anything of value to discussion. Peace out

  12. I am a life time Chiefs fan. It was so bad for so much of my life being a fan of the the Chiefs. Right now I am just enjoying the ride. The Love people show us and even the hate all says one thing!
We are the dogs!! It won’t last forever but I am going to enjoy every minute of it!
To those who are not Chiefs fans I feel your pain and can only say don’t give up!! Go Chiefs!

  13. Kansas City Chiefs will have not repeat because it is to exhausting for the players to recover, and there are new teams to worry about for them to repeat.

  14. Everyone will doubt the Chiefs every chance they get. They can’t help it. Bless their hearts.

  15. The Chiefs will get bounced in the playoffs early next season by like the Texans or Ravens. There’s a reason why the Pats were the last team to repeat like a decade ago. There’s way too much parity in the NFL & it’s the hardest championship to win in all pro sports due to the one & done playoff set up. They’ll always be a problem as long as Mahomes & Reid are there but there’s gonna be other teams to knock em off here & there.

  16. It’s all about egos.. each one does their job.. Clark, to veach to reid everyone works.. Andy has a good staff… got rid of Sutton.. got spags.. plus us going so late each season.. it’s hard for anyone to grab anyone off our staff.. afc championship 6 years in a row..

  17. Nick looks like he just got done riding that giant flying dog from the never ending story.

  18. Great interview and subject Colin, your guest presented the Chiefs dynamic in a way I've never heard before and I found it very intriguing. I'll definitely tune in again and wish you great success in yet another chapter in your amazing career.

  19. Andy was a power guy and learned that lesson the hard way with the Eagles. The last few years of his Eagles reign were rife with bad drafts and coaching hires.
