Hello and welcome to round three frontend coverage of the 35th annual earlwood classic presented by dis Mania and down south discs this event is in cooperation with the Columbia disc golf club Catch cam is Valentin lutsenko walkr footage Vern Wyatt the commentary team is Ryan rmer and Martin
N on the card today is Jeremy hunter from Columbia South Carolina Martin East from Jackson South Carolina Justin gross from Charlotte North Carolina Alex Kirby from Columbia South Carolina and Mike Buck from Lexington South Carolina hole one is a par 3 240 ft You’ got a couple options here you can go to
The right of this V tree or to the left of it with a forehand regardless of the path you take make certain you try your best to avoid stumps and Roots where you’re going to be in for a world of trouble let’s do it sir all right have a good round
Guys look like Jeremy’s going the heer route again skips up night oh that’s par so I’m going breaker here pretty stable kind of pulled them straight up the gut yeah I’ve hit that route two or three times in practice looks like a pretty uphill putt what pin high right yeah every time
About 30 or so Justin going up the middle as well looks like same shot just higher just got to get a little high that look what mid-range I think so he’s not quite sure what any of his bag is but Alex going forehand it’s good to go forehand on one
So you can kind of do the same shot on two but just leaks a little right because of the hillside sloping left to right fck going up the middle as well yes sir he throws pretty hard he’s a a lot of power yep look like tickle left High yeah
These baskets are just small you’re going to hear that the whole time they’re just a little smaller but the course is a little shorter too so it kind of balances out in my opinion I love that you have to work to to get the birds had the word to get those
PS been in the same spot so many times look pretty awkward stance there yeah feet are a little too close together to be happy with it but still can’t leave it short going up F oh nose down you kind of got to get it nose down on these you float them up
Left to right they both kind of tickle out dead center of course and low left is really good couple of tap ends you’re not happy with a part on that hole but it’ll do you just feel like you need to get next couple of good Ones all right we got hole two uh 325 um most people are throwing a right-handed backhand turnover shot here or a forehand shot up the gut um this one slopes from right to left um you’ll definitely want it to uh to sit kind of soft whenever you hit no matter which way you
Throw Jeremy loves to go with this hard Flex I’m not sure the disc but he goes honestly really hard Flex Mega overstable yes oh that’s the yeah I know I just rather overturn it and go down the hill yeah it’s almost a shank forehand and then Justin looks like he’s
Thr in forehand as well oh no get in front of it please down there talking to it you just got to talk to it sometimes got to keep wishing then the backhand turnover is is way more technical but it does filter to the basket better it just wants to kind of Hit the
Hillside grab come back to the basket where our for hands are kind of fighting against the hill a little much so they go long what disc you throw in there this is a predator I I don’t really throw the Raptor too much anymore but it’s more of
A dump shot it’s I like that predator it was you know old school disc I used to throw those when I was a little bit younger and a little more arm speed this is a flat forehand on the inside which seems to go straight for
The basket hard but if you hit it right you just oh yeah like that Hill basket yep Jeremy came up way short on this one but look like he’s got a open shot hopefully a little up and down I think the Miss is that throw a little too high here yeah
I think he’s low left edge of circle Yep this flipped over on them got a little down the hill but it’s still 60 ft or so Alex with a nice Deuce there great but I personally think it’s a little easier to put on these uphill than down
Oh absolutely can put a little more on them nice D thank you thank you that was I putt with fuses they’re very understable very floaty but you got to still kind of push through the basket a little bit on these you can’t float them in like in of a baskets
Nice put By Buck you want to be left side on these you just got to miss a little left so if they’re dropping in a little low and left you you know you’re probably putting okay Hunter little clean up unfortunately cuz he’s gotten this a few times that Flex
Shot works more times than it doesn’t It all right hole three we got a 325 ft uh right-handed backhand shot you kind of want to just flip something up flat and uh let it push and hizer into the hill and Skip up on up into the green um several trees G down over the last few
Years makes it such a different hole than it was in years past but still a very challenging hole for for a wood definitely one of three or one of two holes that you have to throw a driver on yep and that sticky stuff that mud yeah
As much rain as we have is a little bit of water thr a pretty neutral nuke on a as much haard as I like to throw which isn’t very much but I want the skip at the end I like that much that’s right those wide rim drivers love skipping on that
Especially that flat grass up there oh yeah only thing I’m really worried about is that stump yep anything but Alex a little high get some tickl he did make a comment that he’s not super comfortable on this shot specifically which looks like he’s still wide open he
Can get up and down pretty easily and save his far it’s one of the harder of the of for wood smth get like a long look edge of circle two or so as smooth as he throws that was a good shot shot and now Jeremy goes to that uh non-conventional
Line little local R uh-huh baby what oh little cut roll action he said it’s so easy out of his hand he just got to get the little fight back at the end it look like he just put it over on a little more Annie than he did the first two rounds
Mhm Alex with a forehand up shot it’s like a just a bit short right well inside the circle should be easy tap in didn’t seem too happy with it but he’s really primary he’s really good with his little flick up shots so he’s looking to get close on those
Bucket Buck is being super easy with that stance there he’s trying not to sink is what we’re doing oh no oh no one thing that was in his M boy he’s I’m not comfortable in there at all oh man that’s rough there’s only a few spots on this course and these are
There’s two right here on this so it’s easy to get into for any of us this has been one of the easier holes for me for this tournament that I feel like I I can actually throw there comfortably I do wish i’ had played this a few more
Times to play maybe the hunter line like cuz it gives you like kind of the run that you know you can get it up there every time you’re not going to miss it super early yeah uh Jeremy’s a local so yep bunch of holes uh definitely super
Finicky kind of finesse shots that if you thrown it 100 times it’s a whole lot better than 10 oh yeah J coming up a little short here nice little bid little semi run easy tap in before can’t really be mad on about four or five of the holes here that are harder nice
Justin from downtown Justin’s talking about how much he works and how much he puts into this game when he’s not cashing at a b or c tier he said a B tier’s on his bucket list and he’s come in second a few times so I’m sure sometime I’m sure he’s ready one oh
Yeah couple of tapin here from the guys All right hole four we got 140 ft just straight ahead we got an island Hole uh you have to cross the creek to be inbounds and it is flagged long and to the right most people are going to be throwing Putters here forehand or backhand what are you throwing here
That’s a breaker again I’m very uncomfortable with this shot I didn’t get enough practice on it at all and I’ve hit the trees at least I think on all four shots so Rumblings tumbling tumbling fumbling it’s one you have to get but I am so uncomfortable with it little haer flip up very
Overstable just a little long and that’s what you want you really want to give it almost a little run with enough stability not to float there like mine you don’t want it to float you want it to just get down to the ground C I like
Man he’s thr in the right intended line the more overstable real slow disc something you just throw out on a little late release there for him Jeremy another forehand trust me Jeremy throws some really overstable stuff yeah looks like a bunch of stall stable stuff just spikes
Everything but he’s got both angles he throws a lot of high or a lot of Annie run looks like yep almost skipped the in very nice shot calling for it don’t even think about it just give it a little tap tappy I tried to design it that way but little
Taparoo more time it takes you to put the more time you have to think about it right I guess it’s an MJ thing oh man he’s picking up his mini before he lets it go there you go Jeremy same thing two another nice putt stabby very stabby thought Buck was giving this Aon
Simple Alex with a clean up and off we go not happy about that four but hole number five 280 ft uh there’s a several routes you can go um out to the left or up the gut OB left Creek and Beyond most people take the power haer
But it has to be on haer out of the hand or big old turnover or right side heer flip it’s gotten a little easier and then apparently it got a lot harder this last year with the planning of a few trees on the left side yep no more wide
Open nice nice big Annie this is just the most comfortable shot that I have probably in the bag yeah that looks what edge of the circle about 20 feet I think I think in up being inside we really hard this hill this hole’s actually uphill good a
Bit I like it this is the harder shot bad he was on it the whole time man sounds like you knew it ahead of time asking it to miss it Jeremy going big Anning as well it really gets over on this one but it bites out so much that about a runs
It every time as long as you commit that I pull Annie to start with it’s going to be in bounds I think that’s me and his go-to shot too we like to throw the Annie a little more often if we can Buck going the big haer buck just
Got enough power to throw like a slow mid there still looks like it’s almost an edge of Circle M maybe 40 footer this one definitely is not 280 it’s oh yeah much uphill oh yeah probably plays a good bit more than that all 350 or so oh
Yeah Kirby cleaning up a little bit little bounce back there with a good forehand nice B oh thought that was in the whole way go very nice putt he’s been there a few times too he goes right past the basket just a little bit left side you must play here a lot
Nice putt from Mike we’re not used to it man we’re all in the background probably walking the videographer dance these baskets still make anybody nervous though you don’t never know when they’re going to spit out at you oh of course I heard about a lot of spit outs but I
Didn’t see a lot so that’s a good that’s a good sign I guess yeah it’s a good problem to have it earwood hole number six 240 ft down the hill we got a Mando left um you can go down the left side or over over these small trees up the gut U
Most people are trying to land soft on the green and uh try to stay inside that Circle one cannot express how difficult this hole is for me I guess for a lot of us just got to play it a lot of times to learn where your rollways and that
Finessi putter shot I’ve tried to think four different routes on this one and the backhand roller was not it the same thing as like this I was like I thought it was there man I thought that shot was there I was like I practiced this whole 20 times last night and I
Could I thought I had it it hit a bush J plays it really wide with nice oh little tickle outside Branch you’ll see a lot of different shots now that all these trees have come down over the last couple years oh yeah totally different hole Buck looking like it’s booming uhhuh boom Yeah you got to throw something ondly slow just really slow here you got to throw something that’s going to flip up forever real spinny if you can or a forehand at the tree yep and right before it works like that yep just like that that’s the only thing that seems to check up
For the majority of us we’ve had a few backhands but mostly that forehand before the tree is the actual intended shot see switch shoes today this looks great wonderful shot best backand you can throw great shot and of course oh I don’t know how not to go for it oh and
We got a good rollway too did you hear me oh like a little semi bid Buck from down man off the little block there that is not friendly this one rolls more than I I think every other hole we play I just couldn’t get it out my hand
On that one kind of frustrated that it rolled that far oh that was a solid 30 ft for buck even uphill makes you nervous cuz if you hits it again we might kind of think about the rollways again and again so we just kind of this hole’s kind of beating
Up on you guys yeah got two good shots here let’s see if Kirby can redeem us top shelf great putt there you go oh there we go two twos on at least yep oh all that but take him off the hole get it away from him the basket
Gets smaller and smaller the more we putt at it hear me watching yourself I do put kind of quickly after this we’re all discussing just what to do hole number seven 270 ft up the hill um this is quite uphill shot here you definitely want to carry most of the
Distance in the air the roots and and ground are not quite as friendly as other spots that earwood I throw the same exact shot I throw on three just nose up so we throw the same power haer possibly a little flip up if you can but see I throw something way less stable
Than I throw on three really to get up yep yep just to let it flip the whole way up the hill I’m a little worried about if I don’t go if we don’t go left on the hole like yeah get kids we had a couple kids walking around
And we tried our best to get them Kirby did very well trying to get them to move off and they were right in our line oh no hit something early or arm stuff say what did that H it wasn’t quite sure then jump too might not got all
Over if we don’t go left on it that’s when it seems to want to skip if you can go left great low Nice Shot here you go Jeremy same nuke same power just try to get it up in the air another nice one this is one of those ones where you definitely
Like to have a tap in on this walking up the hill after you get tired of walking up 30 30° yeah it’s got to be good bit uphill all right Buck around the outside but got enough power to go around the big tree yeah so is still 50 ft or
So right where this green one is sitting is where you don’t want to really be that’s where the the ground play happens and that’s it’s right where Justin hit he said he’s got believe it little bit of a bid there on his putt see if Buck can tap it
In oh yeah he circles itch oh yeah little uphill people running walking in his background is it random kids that look like random neighborhood kids they seem like they knew what disc golf was they just wanted to play over here around the basket get no we worry for a split second then
It just curled back well I’m glad didn’t stand up because I can tell you one thing I have seen them go all the way down the hill we watch two people about three holes back of us then one rolled go still a clean up still easy par move on to the next
One would have been nice to see him get that one though after that rough hole six yeah the balance bad that look little Ed on that one there we’re talking we’re having a good time me and Jeremy and little little swoop to it I don’t like to pull them right that’s when I’m
That’s when you know there’s something wrong with my putt I was being a little cautious of the putt there yeah that putter was standing up there at the bottom of that shallow tray oh yeah whole eight uh 290 ft um most people take one or two gaps
Here on the right side um you definitely want to uh match your uh disc angle to the side of that Hill when it hits you definitely don’t want it cut rolling to the left and you definitely don’t want it skipping down that Hill either so nice little Easy Touch shot and
Hopefully match that Hill’s angle Jeremy takes that Flex Shot on the outside with something again very overstable mhm makes fight back back the whole way I think this is the worst of his shots for all of got a little early left there didn’t make it around the corner I
Think he kicked out though I think he’s at the edge definitely the safer of the options to throw that Flex forand looks like what Circle two it’s about think 40 ft got a little slide up it wasn’t too bad it still is putable I he not putting up fill or down Alex
Going forehand up the gut which is just hopefully get a counter Miracle roll nice that’ll work so pretty a shot on this hole to throw the flex or just throw the forehand through the middle and let it counter off that hill Oh Justin with a little erant shot let’s
See if he can skip down there and stay in okay he’s still in bounds we’re in pen high right yep still options got options for bird I think he thinks he’s way shorter than he actually is Mike Buck up the gut off the wall and just got enough set still a very
Comfortable putt at least you’re 4 45 ft or so still got options for Bird yeah Jeremy popped out oh wow I thought he was caught up earlier than that nice easy little up and down oh bug sit down he had to get it up high he’s been he missed the okay Justin
Trying to save a deuce nice very nice birdie straight IAP we all putt so differently on this whole on this car that everybody was very intrigued with everybody’s putting Styles huh so different guy catch like it came on the top over here hold nine 300 ft OB right down in
The creek and past the tennis court corner post um you want to do a either a turnover backhand shot that kind of lands flat against the ground here or a forehand that’s going to kind of skip before the hole and kind of nestle after it hops second hardest hole in the course
For me I have yet to have an okay shot I feel like mhm it seems so simple to throw a spiking forehand but the trees get in your head and then there’s OB right I think of people uh simplify it down to just throwing a big turnover and aim way out to the
Left felt good out of the hand just early oh really nice forward skip though oh we got a backwards roll that’s what happened okay that puts it close to put in there I just was I thought I was OB the whole time that makes it exciting walking down
The Fairway yeah and then I think the rounds to come you’ll see something a little different that that happened to me first round went all the way down so I was really nervous I don’t understand the ground play on this one with the forehand but like you said the
Backand turnover mhm I need to practice that more for sure oh what slapping straight down easy up and down and Jeremy we got to talk about it again he just goes at as insanely overstable it looks like he’s just dialing it back I mean you know his
Chops it his his forehand seems to be extremely powerful and he’s trying to just filter it down oh that turn so money that cut that cut rolls is this when they land they’re vertical so they just keep wanting to roll whatever Direction Buck smashing the backing go
So far so hard straight at it go in go in go in god M right side oh man that would have been a nice one to get there Buck he he was asking me beforehand should I go a left side outside turnover or should I go straight at it I said left
Side turnover he goes just hard at it oh tickle tickle no love I think this hole just has no number I don’t like it don’t like the basket don’t feel comfortable with it at all a silent but deadly nice put her buck with a nice two Ace run two is always nice yeah
Exactly that would have been a nice Ace in the repertoire oh yeah I got the hole before this about four or five years ago in amateur ma1 and still sticks with me with the best tournament Ace I’ve had eight a solid one to get Hold 10 240 ft um you got a ob Creek on the left side you have OB uh driveway on the right um You have a pipe going down the middle Crossways on the middle of the Fairway you got to get over um nice little touch shot here on hole number
10 a few people go to the left side down the creek it’s very scary cuz there’s a bunch of branches looks like that’s what Kirby’s lining up here yeah he’s definitely throwing forehand off the pike it’s just that’s all you have to worry about cuz you don’t want to throw it too high
Branches I mean hit in but but going with the backand slow putter just just enough to be over it very nice shot it’s so humid the last couple of weekends that I can’t get a good grip on almost any putter that’s premium plastic Breakers or just go straight
Out R row I threw it first round blind and now I can’t seem to dial it back in I threw it deep Justin going oh no forand again he skips inbound oh it looks like he stays in so hopefully he can save his three just get a little up and down
Jeremy going forehand also very overstable flat shot this time oh man same branches whole 10 did not farewell for the forehands this round little chip up Justin and do the same run oh he thought it was in too giving it a go Alex with a long look to save his part oh hard
B so narrow to hit that squarely I was out of bounds here so saving a three okay not yet clean up I think that LE buck with the only two on this card which isn’t a very hard hole just yeah we’re all worried about a lot of little things here that
Would nobody very nice D picked up one on all of us after 10 holes uh Martin is five down on the round uh Jeremy is one down Justin is five Alex four and buck is two down you guys uh come back and see us for the back 10
