Singapore Classic: Andy Sullivan hits course-record 63 at DP World Tour event
England’s Andy Sullivan shot a course-record 63 to share the lead alongside compatriot Richard Mansell after the second round of the Singapore Classic.
Starting on the 10th hole, Sullivan carded 28 on the front nine to finish level with Mansell and Germany’s Freddy Schott on nine under.
“It was unreal, I just caught fire,” said Sullivan, who opened with a 72.
Mansell shot a three-under 69 as two birdies on 16 and 18 put him level with Sullivan and Schott.
England’s Sam Bairstow and Paul Waring are a shot further back, part of a five-way tie on eight under. Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson is among a six-strong group on seven under.
On a day where scoring had generally been difficult, Sullivan bucked the trend with birdies on the par-fives 13th and 18th before accelerating after the turn.
The 36-year-old started by picking up five shots in four holes – including an eagle on the third as he continued to find success on the par fives – and sunk three more birdies.
“I felt like I played well yesterday without the score being there,” added Sullivan, who played for Europe in the 2016 Ryder Cup.
“Golf being the crazy game that it is, it has a way of rewarding you sometimes.”
