Battery Reef you know I’m so fortunate that I was able to to be here last week to call the game uh between uh Springstead and lanto reef just turned in a magnificent performance uh that night he went the went the entire way for the Eagles and he had a great mix of
Uh fast ball curveball and his change up uh in my opinion his change up I think is exceptional he had a tremendous amount of late break on it and uh it it kept the the hitters uh very much off base so and it’s interesting too because
He has about two different speeds on his curve ball um one he tends to to throw a bit harder he likes to uh uh paint that a bit on the outside and then he also has a a Randy Johnson esque left-handed curveball that he likes to throw and
Target at the right-handed battle back foot so he’s got an awful lot of weapons that’ll end up making it very difficult for the uh leopard’s hitters tonight yeah and being a lefty too those two curveballs coming right in on a righty uh really really makes it hard to
Determine what it is you know especially if he can find the same arm slot between that and his fast ball really just keep these hitters guessing what kind of pitch what kind of pitch they’re going to see it’s always a treat to come and do games here at
Springstead uh it’s just such a beautiful venue uh this is I guess about six years from me that I’ve been coming out taking the games in and I swear to goodness I don’t recall a time when this field has looked uh more beautiful and his staff has just done a
Magnificent job um with this this uh field and it’s it’s just truly a sight to behold for high school baseball probably the uh copious amounts of rain we had over the winter didn’t hurt things either certainly didn’t hurt all right we’re getting going I’m excited my golly you think I was in The
Dugout Le leading off third basem number 12 Bryce [Applause] Saltzman interested to see what Reef’s going to start him out with see if he’s going to try and establish a fast ball off first pitch hit over second base side that’s s to drend derer yep one pitch one out difficult
From point of view because the umpire’s a little bit in in my view but I’m thinking that might have been one of his chain jups was nice because he got the got Saltzman to uh to offer on the first pitch and um Salzman got fooled a little
Bit didn’t hit it squarely and hit a nice easy grounder second baseman who uh builded it easily one pitch one out Jacob Reef that’s a coach’s dream working efficiently going to be facing the catcher Kane Ellis really comes in hitting a hot bat this year this young man’s really impressive he’s only a
Sophomore big big loop and curveball for strike one oh this is going to be a great matchup tonight Lefty Lefty just missed outside with another breaking ball it was a good thought trying to expand the uh expand his uh visual plane one ball one strike fast ball missing a little high
There big big cut big cut in a Miss yep another curveball he just dropped it right in on the inner half all right so he’s got him in a little bit of a hole here one ball two strikes definitely in in Reef’s favor here tries to drop a curveball in but does
Miss just missed just a little bit upstairs this is a good thought he was really trying to front door that get the called strike on the inside corner just left it up a little bit and it did not break enough even count two balls two
Strikes one out no one on top of the first that ball hit to center field high Anderson under it makes the catch so with two outs mve to the short stop Austin canum yeah Anderson U that one had that one played well you really didn’t have
To break a sweat get into that that’s one of the things that drives you crazy as a coach is when when you’re uh your batters put a good swing on the ball and it ends up hitting adom balls right at them on the ground right side SE knocks
It down but cannot glove it cleanly he did have to go a long way for that number n Carter carrying off that’ll bring up the pitcher Carter kinof with a runner on first kov standing in with a runner on first base two outs Reef bounces the first pitch in there for ball
One o that one missing just low so we have two balls no strikes Reef being careful here to kinof they not trying to give him anything over the plate big cut there wow that was a nice pitch the bottom just fell right out of it was able to pull the string there
Getting the swing over it as I had said earlier his change up is absolutely exceptional very very Heavy just missed with that one that was a good just missing with that fast ball I’m just wondering Derek if that wasn’t a setup for him to to bring that big loop and curve ball in on his uh on his knees and we’ll see what comes up next
Yeah aim for his back foot there as you were talking 3-1 hitters count Runner goes the ball drilled into left field it will fall in front of Williams for a base hit and here come the the leopards little two out rally here both coaches on either side of the chalk
Are very aggressive this will bring up Palmer Looper they really like to to put the ball in play and and make the defense make plays so don’t be surprised to see uh them starting Runners up quite a bit tonight he’s able to drop that curveball in for strike one that thing’s
Pretty Derek it reminds me a lot of uh Barry Zito’s curveball when he was with the A’s he used to have that big looping curveball 1:00 7 o’ and that’s going to get away from King everybody moves up one yeah that was a tough one he uh did
A nice job trying to to block it he he dropped down and and formed his body correctly but the problem was that it had a little bit of a of a side spin he he’s able to cut that ball so hard that ball was spinning like crazy
It hits the ground it’s just going to shoot right away from King he shot right over King’s shoulder now the runners Advance second and third fast ball misses upstairs two balls one strike two outs Runners on second and third we have kiram at third kinof at second RBI opportunity early in

Line I’m going to go out of limb and say he didn’t miss that one there he got every last bit of that ball and it flew one of the interesting things about this field that I found is you get the ball up it’s going to get out of here in a hurry I’ve
For some reason this field carries so I think I have seen more home runs here than any other field that that I’ve been at uh for whatever reason and it’s no smaller than really any other field we’re at three 358 to Center that’s pretty standard yeah 300 down the lines though
Um that’s where Sabino put it as the center field ER Anderson looks at ball one and this young man’s quite dangerous on the ground right side Odell has it flips it to kof carof my apologies my mouth forgot how to work there for a moment but that is a ground out for
Anderson nicely played there on the right side by the leopard’s defense into the box number seven Bon Williams one of the the challenges is that the field I mean the sun sets directly in the eyes of the second baseman right fielder and first baseman kov a to drop a
SL not straight pitch in for for strike one yeah slurve is a good way to put it for sure that one catches the outside corner for strike two now he’s he’s really died in yeah yeah first two k hitters came out really aggressive for the Eagles H Williams making
Caroff always number 19 Nick Franklin always trying and ask the coaches for the game what the uh the pitchers throw so I can get a little bit of a help identifying the pitches so he he said that the kov throws a fast ball slurve change up so that one definitely had a
Lot of SL definitely had a a lot of movement and very off speed this is third baseman Nicholas Franklin up with two outs located that perfectly on the outer fast ball catch the black there I really am excited to to see Franklin play you know Derek we’ve been fortunate to watch
This young man play for several years now he’s really exciting big young man Big Frame lots and lots of power he can do it all on the baseball field yeah he’s getting the knot tonight at third for the Eagles oh my that one driven to the

In nobody on nobody out glad you’re joining us here tonight Odell’s big young man did a nice job on that ground ball that got smoked to him got him out in front of that Franklin able to get it across the diamond now number 13 Henry Robinson one pitch one
Out pretty efficient here these two um two pitchers they’ve been all over the strike zone so far yeah it’s interesting to me too that that both teams are coming out of the box you know first going after first pitch quite often um you know a lot of coaches will end up
Having the their players coming up first inning you know taking a a ball or taking till strike one no both of these teams have come out quite aggressive to start the game as the left fielder Henry Robinson steps in and he watches fast ball come in for strike one big breaking ball again
One nothing’s our score Eagles get a lead off home run by Sabino just misses outside with with that big curveball that one again left up a little bit seems like if he leaves it up some it doesn’t work as well as if he finishes it and gets it down in the zone
It really has a lot more bite and action to it yeah absolutely who thought about it but was able to lay off as that pitch does get called the ball two balls one strike that was a great take I was wondering if Reef was going to try and and come back
In on him after he he threw the previous pitch uh on the Outer Edge it’s exactly what he did but could not get the the chase on it it’s like they’re setting up away again that one drilled into center field and does fall in front of Anderson gets pass Him Robinson able to get into second really really nice job of just staying on that pitch he hit it hard he was thinking too right out of the box too dere yeah he really was and as soon as we saw that Bobble there it was he was on his horse getting to second
Base yeah he uh I tell you what I was impressed for a big man he can really move no wonder he’s patrolling The Outfield he can definitely move a little bit for sure brings up second baseman Mason Morgan the runner on trying to tie this game up with one
Out big curve ball big cut comes up empty again swinging first pitch absolutely yeah it’s almost like neither one of these teams want to wait around to see what’s going to happen that one hit foul oh quickly down 02 is Morgan yeah I think ke for Reef tonight
He’s going to have to live in the basement he’s going to have to keep the ball down uh the the balls that have been hit hard have been ones that got left up in the zone swinging a Miss strike three as I say that he goes upstairs with a fast
Ball and and uh punches him out to the pl the DH number 44 Cody White Law this will bring up Cody whitlaw is getting DH duties tonight for the leopards oh Runner around second two outs now White Law batting from the nine spot trying to get on get over and turn this lineup
Over big looping curve ball strike one again swing first pitch yeah he’s he’s gotten a number of first pitch swinging strikes this Inning on that on that curve ball ball it’s almost like they know it’s coming but can’t yeah can’t even his good you just can’t shot the other way
It’s going to fall in front of reef in right field but he does a good job corralling it and gets it back into the infield we’ll have Runners on the Corners really nice job with that he didn’t try and do too much kept the barrel behind his hands just just hit a nice flare it hung up a little bit but not enough that Joey re could get to it so but to his credit though Reef did a
Nice job keeping the ball in front of him and limiting the damage yeah got it quickly into the first baseman two out Runners on the corner let’s see what happens here with the first and third if they try and just throw straight through and try and get the runner or that
Brings up Brian Salzman grounded out it’s first time up and he does not swing first pitch curve ball just watches it come in for a strike instead yeah the runners not moving here be interesting to see what coach Sims does here now you have the tying run 90 ft 85
Ft away obviously showing some respect to catcher King who really is is quite a a very good catcher in his own right that one missing inside even count one ball one strike again breaking ball and again Runner stays where he is so white lot taking his lead from
First and he is going to check on him there but back safely it’s not too big of a lead over there doesn’t really seem like a major threat to Steel at least the way he’s setting himself up and with Reef being a lefty he is just able to to stare right at him
There that one just missing as well two ones to count two outs Runners on the corners one nothing’s our score we will update the uh scoreboard here for you next inning I love it the runner at first takes a jab step on pitcher’s first movement jab step
Back and that fast ball just missing High brings count 3-1 you see that taught a lot now with left-hander’s first movement the runner jab steps back uh just in case there’s a throw and then when he clears him going to the plate then if he’s going to go

Baseman Elijah s stepping in and he’s able to catch the outside corner for strike one and that offering bounces in EV count one one this is the first time i’ I’ve seen Karen Off Pitch and and I got to tell you Derek this young man’s impressive he’s got pretty good
Velocity on that fast ball and that breaking ball that is nasty he’s been able to really control it fairly well here so far this ball game and he gets a swing and Miss there one ball two strikes one out and gets a called strike three number 11
Andrew that was a big Punch Out interestingly watching his delivery all of his pitches come out of the same tunnel meaning that the fast ball his off speed is breaking pitches they all come from basically the the same batters call it tunnels yeah it’s hard to uh catch that sometimes if
You’re a hitter trying to differentiate between the pitch seeing it out of his hand sometimes if they drop it down it means something if they leave it up it means something else but if you’re able to keep the same arm slot and show the same tunnel for all of your pitches just
Creates more confusion for the hitter yeah his his fast ball and slurve both especially come right out of the same tunnel and um I notic his curveball had a bit of a a hump to it it was a little bit more easily identified catching the corner there
He’s doing two balls one strike just a magnificent job of spotting this fast ball early and working that outside corner this is a DH number 11 Andrew Ward stepping in for the first time tonight half class ball missing low just low moves it to a very favorable count for Ward
3-1 two outs really impressed with his his control it reminds me of the young man we saw at the central a couple weekend couple Fridays ago uh JJ tranum JJ had tremendous uh accuracy and and command that night award fouls that offering back brings the count

One Bo he’s got the thing working it’s unhitable yeah he’s been able to throw that for a strike it seems a little easier even than his uh his fast ball this evening so far that one hitting the air left center Anderson able to get
Under it he had to travel a long way to get it but he did I got to tell you Anderson’s got an extra gear that young man can fly yeah had some closing speed there as he was getting closer to that ball was able to glove it nice play
Anderson just just committed to uh College this week so really excited for him let’s bring up the short stop Austin Canam singled in the first and big cut just barely gets a piece for strike one you know they see the curveball they know it’s going to be a curveball they
Are geared up to hit it and somehow it just ghost bats every last one of them it’s it’s pretty remarkable to see I went over the head even a count one ball one strike just a little bit High just a bit outside just a Bit oh laid off of that one that was a tough one I’m guessing just High that’s a good pitch really good location too I’m sure Reef would like to have that one back that one in the air lands in front of Anderson so kierum two for two today that’ll bring up the pitcher
Kinof he singled his first time up as well and first offering missing low for ball one Drilled into left field and that’s going to fall for a hit in front of Williams and this time making a run with one out now batting number three Palmer Looper and that don’t bring up the right fielder Palmer Looper grounded out his first time up second time through the leopards are
Making adjustments at the played there they’re hitting the ball hard speed up R number 15 Chase shamblin have by number 15 and shamet running for the pitcher so shamet at first near him at second and Looper watches that curveball catch the outside corner for strike one that was another Reef
