For making us a part of your afternoon this afternoon it is going to be a great Tuesday today because we have a lot of things to dive into uh we have a guest in at the five o’clock hour Chris Gordy of the locked on SEC podcast as well as
Sports Talk 790 down there in Houston he’ll join us and talk a little bit about the SEC going around spring practice some of the big headlines from there we’ll also get into Nick Sabin on Capitol Hill all right uh he had some things to say about nil and I’m sure
It’s really good and will not be controversial whatsoever so we’ll get into that as well and we’ll get to some of your comments some of your questions here on the live stream but we know that forget football even though baseball’s tonight you know Oral Roberts is coming
To town and it’s a six o’clock game by the way so a little bit of a later later aspect there but we got Spring football and we had spring practice this morning which is always a fun time to be able to get out there and get breathe in that
Fresh morning air and the fresh cut grass and be able to talk about all the great things happening in practices and how this team’s going to go 12 and0 and you know pretty much all those things and we’re going to talk a little bit about that and say all the things that
We were able to see here in the morning but we also have Andrew Ellis joining us too what’s up Andrew you got to be a chance down there practice too felt good man it felt good it did feel good it well it felt a little bit better in the
Sun which we happened to not be in uh but it was very windy at practice today but yeah it was it was it was nice to be back out there I mean I guess it was Thursday was the last time yeah I guess that’s not true I guess we went Friday
Right Friday or Thursday I can’t remember I think we went Thursday and Friday and had a little bit of a break but uh yeah it’s was good to be back out out there uh it’s not full-on fall camp where it’s like an everyday grind so
It’s nice that we get a couple days in between though but I enjoyed being out there I I did too and you know the thing is is we get to see so many different like aspects of practice some of it is extremely boring and pointless some of
It is actually kind of interesting but I would say today the fascination at least for the beginning part was about the new running backs coach Colby Smith and they didn’t not to say that they didn’t waste any time they wasted all the time and made sure that they didn’t officially
Announce until this morning right before practice well they had to know they had to realize like we were all going to be out there and going to be around the running back room and so I was kind of interested to see how it would play out
Or if he would be like walking with somebody but it you know if you didn’t know that it was his first day and that there was a new Runnings back running back coach you would have had no idea I mean he look like a normal position coach out there doing his job very
Similar to what we saw Jimmy Smith doing on Friday that’s what was kind of funny about this is the last time we were at practice there was a whole new running back coach and I remember him giving it instruction and like actually there and everything so it’s it’s kind of weird
But yeah I mean I only spent a few minutes around him but I mean as you can see from this video here he’s coaching him up good um I thought the the one moment that kind of stood out to me was J Quinn Jackson the big Utah transfer he
Made him redo a rep and actually it might be happening on this video as we speak uh because he said he didn’t hit the pad hard enough he made him like come back and he’s like hey you’re big and strong but says yeah you forgot him you forgot yeah he’s making him come
Back and do it now here it is and he’s like you forgot to tell this guy you forgot to tell this guy how strong you are which I kind of thought was funny kind of emphasizing that that physicality and so hey you know got to see his his his uh his running back
Coaching in action it was good well I was curious to see how he was going to approach the team and the players because you think about it that we talked about yesterday but just these kids have no idea who this guy is I mean he they were literally expecting Jimmy
Smith to be their coach and they’re getting they’re doing practices and suddenly a day or two later hey you got a new coach and you’re just going to have to do what he says and you haven’t met him before probably never talked to this man before uh May I’m not saying
Like this was the first practice they ever worked out together but still there’s just so much newness to it it’s probably a little awkward uncomfortable trying to figure each other out but also I think kobby Smith wants to set an example of like hey this is how we’re
Going to do things and I’m going to make sure that you toughen up and and you get it going but uh I think the from what I saw at least the body language was good from the running backs uh they were getting after it they were still some
Communication that was going on between them so does that mean everything’s hunky dory and the running backs are going to be great I don’t know but I was at least curious to see if there was going to be any disconnects there with the new coach and the running backs in
This yeah I mean you know it’s tough to tell like you said one practice but it’s nice to be doing this now and not in like August or later in the year so there’s going to be plenty of time like by the time you guys see the football
Team play whether it’s the spring game or later in the fall like they’ll have time to to settle things out but I’ll be honest I actually have some decent takeaways from the running back room because you know we got to see plenty of practice almost two hours worth of it uh
You had the brillan Russell fumble which Jackson may or may not have stripped we you know opinions vary but uh you know he had that kind of misc there while he was working on the second team offense but I thought the four veteran runningbacks you know Jackson dubinion
Uh what’s his name Dominic Johnson and uh Isaiah augustov I thought they all had really good moments and there was one run in particular that stood out to me where augustov got a ball going to the left side and kind of cut back his way all the way through the defense
Ended up like on the complete other side of the field but I mean we’ve kind of talked about how the offense has been dominating practice for the most part when they line up in team and Rashad dubinan who’s really one you need to look for because he was a Jimmy Smith
Guy he played for him in high school so you would think if anyone’s going to be affected by Jimmy Smith leaving it would be him uh but he he had two huge runs right at the beginning of the team period all those guys look good so you
Know does that mean that they’re you know completely psyched about their running back coach leaving probably not but it doesn’t seem like they it’s affecting their play or anything no I don’t think so at all and I think that there’s so many different aspects to a
Player who who steps into a role and and having to adjust and getting with already a new offense an offensive scheme and an offensive coordinator but then a new running back’s coach but this is the time I guess you want it to happen is in Spring and you know that’s
Where you can’t really hold the standard which It’s s like we were sitting there in practice and marking off anytime someone screwed up like oh my goodness that’s just terrible like this oh man he didn’t he didn’t cut very well that’s how I was yeah very meticulous there but
Being able to see the different drills which we got to watch practice for those of you who aren’t aware we got to watch practice for pretty much the entirety however ever the first 20 minutes is the only thing we got to film so there was some still one-on-one uh deals going on
There was 11on 11 good on good as they say that happened seven on seven that there were going on so there was a lot of aspects to this but I I would say just because of the running back position and knowing how talented it is
Or at least how deep it is and the size of them uh that’s going to be interesting to see what happens from here until the end of spring practice with that particular group and especially with the new quarterback I mean everything’s new I know it’s a new
Year and it happens in college football but I mean you were talking about every single skill position player uh the quarterback the the offensive line everything is brand spanking new to them it’s almost like a new entire new team other than just a few familiar faces from the previous year so that’s where
I’m going to be curious about how they continue to develop how can they continue to get better and do we see coaches start to rip them a little bit more as not to saying that’s needs to happen but you know if they expect him hey maybe in the beginning there’s a
Learning curve but this time couple weeks you better start understanding where the standards at and the expectation is right now yeah well I mean we keep talking about Bobby’s demeanor like is he going to win he going to start ripping into them and start yelling at them stuff like that
And I think there’s going to be a time and a place for that and it might not be while we’re out there at the at the practices who knows it might be behind closed doors but I think for everyone that’s a big thing with this coaching staff especially on the offensive side
Of the ball because there’s not really any continuity so we can talk about how big of a loss Jimmy Smith is big picture because obviously he’s a big- Time recruiter who’s had a lot of success in his tenur Arkansas Arkansas’s running back room has been really good for the
Most part so we can talk about a big picture but in terms of how it’s going to affect this team right now and these teams practicing while they’re still kind of learning all this stuff I think this is you know kind of Ideal to be mixed in a new running back coach
Because it’s not like there was a ton of history between Jimmy Smith and Bobby patrino that we’re just gonna have to account for now so yeah I think it’s a it’s a good point where it’s like now is the time to experiment Now’s the Time to
Get to know each other and so it’s kind of perfect that he’s able to hop right in there and hey how about hiring him on the over the weekend because I mean you know very well I thought you know last week when this happened I was kind of
Thinking I was like man what’s it going to be like at practice like what are the running backs going to do but hey they hired someone in a matter of days so we we’ll see how it works out so also not only the running backs you had you know
Quarterback’s always going to drain jarge interest and at least after the few practices we’ve seen it’s still tailing green like he’s still the starter however the backup quarterback situation still seems to be in flux which is not a bad thing but you saw at least the twos and sometimes the threes
You saw Malachi Singleton out there you saw jacobe Chris well out there you saw KJ Jackson out there man even LED better threw a touchdown today you know perf passer rating man now it’s hard to beat that when you’re 100% yeah I mean you know this team we’re all still kind of
Trying to figure out what the Personnel is going to be like what the first second third team is the one thing that’s been consistent it’s ton green at quarterback and with the first team that’s the one thing that has not changed at all despite whoever’s around
Them and you know like you mentioned the twos they’ll kind of mix it’ll be like Singleton some days CH Jackson some some snaps and then Chiswell has been kind of two two and three but you know none of those other three guys have gotten reps
With the one so it’s like the one thing we do know for a fact is that ton green is the starter here and like you said that the backup job is kind of up for grabs I thought Malachi Singleton had a very interesting day because you know
Going in the seven on seven into the one-on-one drills he was as accurate as anyone he had a few nice throws uh they made some nice throws in the team period you know a few over the middle that I thought of but he had a few deep balls
That just got away from him and so I think it’s a very valid question of like hey jacobe cruzwell can push the ball down the field a little bit more maybe that gives him the upper hand and that backup competition and we we were both talking about KJ Jackson today he’s just
Really easy to you see the vision with him like really athletic big guy you know has to clean up some stuff he’s clearly not as polished as some of these other guys but you see you see the makings of a really good quarterback and so you just kind of wonder if anybody on
The team has as high of a ceiling as him and I think at least for the time being it seems like there’s a pretty good gap between Tay and green and the other guys and it’s not even as much about what they’re doing it practice as much as
Like we said just how they line up and you know you talk to every player I mean we talked to uh I guess it was Carmona and Luke has today who were just raving about him saying oh he uh you know he’s just leading everybody in the locker
Room he’s taking us out to eat like it’s you could clearly see he’s the guy like there’s no debate about it and I haven’t even heard a coach or player reference a quarterback competition so it let kind of kind of lets you know we we were
Joking all spring like hey this is our first time covering a quarterback battle might be over I don’t know maybe we don’t maybe the battle is for the backup job we’ll see yeah maybe it’s already over before it even got started cuz it certainly seems that Vibe even me you
Referenced uh lucaz in the press conference today uh I should have pulled that clip but it was he almost slipped up he almost did he almost was like uh compared to any other quarterbacks that I’ve ever played for guy who has only played one season of college football so it’s like
Wonder who wonder what he could be referencing there yeah because I I could be wrong I don’t believe there was ever a time where lucaz was out there playing in a game with uh Malik Hornsby or uh Kate foron at least not to my knowledge so yeah you
Could tell that there’s a comfortability to it and that’s that’s what you want to see like some people will be like oh do you want a quarterback competition or do you not want a quarterback competition this time I’m still in the camp of like if you’re someone who trusts Bobby
Patrino and the offensive line and that’s what he wants then that’s what they’re going to do like it’s as simple as that like you got to feel good about the possibility of him being the guy and moving forward with him but as we know in college football and just in football
In general the back quarterback position is going to be very important because odds are you know I don’t want anything to happen to him but just going off of Trends odds are ton Green’s going to have to come out he’s going to get banged up he may get hurt and have to be
Out for certain Series so even though everyone wants to be a starter whoever that backup is is going to get reps is going to play at some point in time this year and in some cases may even be in very important and crazy situations against SEC opponents on the road so
Yeah they’re going to they’re going to let that one battle it out I don’t know who it’s going to be and I don’t have a rooting interest in who it’s going to be but whoever it is they’re going to play this year I would assume so I mean it’s
Just yeah like you said it’s really unrealistic to expect your quarterback to be completely healthy all year not miss whether it’s a quarter whether it’s a possession whether it’s just a play here there when his helmet comes off like you’re going to need someone to go
In there and be able to run the offense be able to take those snaps uh Malachi Singleton is kind of The X Factor really because you know KJ Jackson we’re really we he’s clearly a talented guy we we think he has a bright future you don’t
Want to depend on that guy as your backup quarterback if something were to happen but hey who knows maybe they have a little little package for him who knows we’ll see but I think Malachi Singleton is The X Factor here because jacobe cruzwell has been around college
Football a while you could do a lot worse in terms of backup quarterbacks than someone who’s been in college football for five years two different programs been around really good quarterback so You’ assume he has at least some stability there as a veteran uh but I think Singleton this is kind of
His chance to solidify himself as a future starter at Arkansas or just a guy who’s going to compete for a job which I think is really important to you know have that competition because you know jacobe cruzell we kind of talked about does he look checked out sometimes if he
Doesn’t win this job i’ imagine he’s not going to be super psyched about being at Arkansas and being the backup so who knows maybe he’s maybe he sticks around and maybe he just is the guy who is an overqualified backup we’ll see but I think Singleton’s development is really
Important this spring to make sure that guy’s ready to play because you know just as easily as Tayan green can get banged up chriswell or whoever it is that goes right in there and KJ Jackson’s an athletic guy so it’s if he gets the job you know it’s like he could
Get injured so you got to have all these guys available and so I think having all these dudes competing and every day I mean just how much these quarterbacks are throwing how much they’re getting familiar with all these different receivers I think the coaching staff’s doing a really good job at least from
What what our uh Stupid eyes are seeing at practice well also too I know we talked a lot of offense and we will talk some defense too because that is important but I thought just from Sam Pitman and this is the third practice that we’ve been able to watch uh
Watching Sam Pitman and seeing where his role is at like sometimes as a head coach you know you you go to different areas and I don’t think it’s surprising that he’s going to be going into the offensive line area often but it it was fascinating for the time where the teams
And positions were cutting off and going to their own thing Sam Pitman the entire time at least according to my eyeballs was over there with the offensive lineman which again it’s not a bad thing but it’s just showing that that’s where his focus is and this is just going to
Be my reckless assump I think he trusts Matos I think he’s completely fine with him being the coach but I also think what happened last season embarrassed Sam Pitman more than anything obviously the season success and lack thereof but the offensive line was probably something that was extremely embarrassing to him because
That’s his pride and joy that’s his baby that’s what he’s known for and I’m just going to be curious how not only in the spring but even when fall Camp comes around is he still going to be that Hands-On that in intertwined and that much involved with the offensive line
And making sure whatever happened last year does not ever happen again well I would just imagine that part of the deal with Bobby patrino is hey you’ve got full autonomy you go do your thing I ain’t even GNA have to worry about it I don’t want to have to speak to ton green
I mean we talked about I was joking with some of the the baseball players yesterday about how dvh doesn’t speak to his pitchers he how he’s he’s lets Matt Hobs just do it I think Sam Pitman we’ve always known as a de is you know the
Best version of Sam Pitman is when he’s able to be a CEO and kind of delegate and oversee everything and I think he’s still doing a little bit of that uh I think during the team periods you see him start to talk to the other position
Groups a little bit we saw him yell at our boy cat slavis after dropping a pass so it’s like it’s not like he just completely ignores these other positions but yeah I think that’s very interesting that he’s just spending all that time with the o line and you get the feeling
That he took it personally that like he’s he’s going to make sure that doesn’t happen again especially in spring when you’re really instructing on how we’re going to do certain things these ways and uh for anyone that watched our practice video I hope you did it with the sound up there were some
Gems there and look some explos here and there CU that’s how normal people talk in the real world but I thought that was interesting to see that fire you know people always joke about Sam pip and they’re like oh does he have that you know that dog in him to really get after
Guys or is he too nice of a guy that’s been a thing people talked about before you see Sam Pitman out there coaching that o line man he’s he’s not a fun dude to have yelling at you at all and uh I thought it was really good did you catch
That uh he made a he made a de’s nuts joke I did not see that I thought that was only Nick Sabin he made a D’s Nuts joke while he was cing the line I don’t know what term he was using but he was like you guys are just LOL gagging
You’re like blah blah blah blah blah blah and then he said blah blah blah he nuts it was the funniest thing ever I couldn’t believe my ears but one of the first comments was about that uh it was so funny but it was just cool to see him
Like really engaged and because I’ll be honest with you not to say that Sam Pitman wasn’t engaged and wasn’t coaching last year but the true like details of the positioning and getting after guys he would always let Cody Kennedy or whoever was do that it was
Cool to see him like be a coach and I’m not you know again I’m not saying he wasn’t coaching but when you’re a head coach Your Role is just different you rarely see even the best coaches really instructing position groups and so it’s good to see that side of him come out a
Little bit because I think obviously when you’re implementing a new offense with a completely new Personnel up front and coming off the year they had you kind of need that one-on-one instruction from someone who’s knows what he’s talking about when it comes to o line I
Would say yeah and also him being that type of coach in general which we know that he’s capable of and being able to develop guys and whatnot it’s also the approach of not only embarrassed from what happened last year but also knowing that it’s it’s this year like this is it
For him he’s got to get something going and when I say something I’m not talking about progression going from four wins to even six wins to me it feels like that seven win mark is really where Sam pipman needs to get this season to realistically not only keep his job but
People feel good about the trajectory of where he’s going CU it’s been going down and down quickly over a threee span where we go from nine wins seven wins four so there has to be a pretty big Resurgence here and I think that Sam Pitman has I hate referencing it all the
Time but it’s true he was a new head coach and this is only his fifth year ever to be a head coach of any program and I think that he’s learned a lot and there’s things that he’s learned not to do and things that he’s learned to do
But from last year I just feel like what he learned is that he hires coaches to do a job but sometimes they don’t do the good job sometimes those assistant coaches aren’t good or aren’t on the same page or there’s some miscommunications whatever it is and you
Cannot have that you cannot have it to where your offense last season CU I think he got embarrassed cuz he made that Dan Enos higher thinking it was going to be great uh he was friends with him and you put him in that position and I guess last year even it happened
Before Kendall brows was even announced to TCU and I remember laughing about that I was like wow he’s he he had his guy and he was ready to roll but it that failed the offensive lineman failed uh you know all these wide receivers that I’m sure came in we’re wanting to
Expecting an offense that was going to give him the ball that failed there was just a lot of epic failure particularly on the offensive side last year that Sam Pitman and especially hiring patrino now it’s kind of like yeah like you said go go you do the offense I’m not even
Goingon to get in the way but I am going to I’m going to stick to what I know for sure which is o line and I am not going to let I’m not going to let the offense suffer and be bad this year because of a bad offensive line he’s just not going
To do it yeah and I do want to emphasize that like this is by Design because you know we were talking to Carmona today and he said that was one of the B main reasons he came to Arkansas was obviously Sam Pimm’s background as an offensive lineman but he said in the
Recruiting process he was saying I’m going to be coaching this o line like it’s going to be this team is going to be built around this o line like I’m going to be handson like I’m an oine guy and I’m going to show you I’m an oine
Guy and so it’s like the players love that it’s not like this is just some thing where Sam Pitman just is getting lazy at practice and just wants to linger and hang out of the o line I think this was very intentional what they’re doing here and part of me also
Just thinks back to obviously him and Cody Kennedy were friends they had coached before at Georgia and he was a guy he kind of took under his wing and I think having a year go that way when it’s someone that he likes and respects and enjoyed working with and seeing it
Go south I think he learned a little bit from that and so I don’t think he wants to make that same mistake with Eric Matos who is the same kind of situation A guy he coached with before a guy that he kind of has been guiding and kind of
Building like he’s kind of his his successor as an o line coach like he’s passing on all his wisdom I think early in Spring he really wants to set that tone of like this is how it’s going to happen like I trust you and and again Eric Matos gets after those dudes too
I’ve really enjoyed watching him Coach he’s been one of the more animated position coach is I really love what they have going on there and really just that whole group uh we just talk about Vibe and energy a lot like last year with the o line it just wasn’t there
Especially at practice uh but you know you you guys see it on the boss hws podcast how close these guys are and like that’s not fake you see that at practice you see Braun coaching up dudes you see dudes talking to each other Carmona you know getting the juice going
Like this team and this group has a little bit more energy and at least belief in each other and you know does that win you any games I don’t know but at least in Spring ball it seems like they’ve got a nice little Foundation bu building with that offensive line which
Is something they just really missed last year and it was really disappointing to see because I I didn’t have an issue with Cody Kennedy but the whole theory that I had at least of you know they weren’t expecting him to be the offensive line coach as quickly as
He was it supposed to be was it Brad Davis I believe was the that went to LSU supposed to be then kind of molding Cody Kennedy into that role and I think that’s another mistake that Sam Pitman made was just hiring him for that spot be like okay well we’re just going to
Have to promote you a little bit earlier and you know I feel comfortable with it and that’s someone that Sam Pitman saw as like hey this guy’s got potential this guy could be a great offensive line coach I’m I’m good with this guy and it didn’t work out and I think that’s
Another thing he got embarrassed by he’s like like Sam Pitman I’m I’m rooting for him I mean he’s a good dude and I think he’s a good coach who’s well int intentioned but there’s been some coaching assistant coaching mistakes that he has made that has led to the
Demise of this team and you know I that’s keep going back to the patrino and referencing it but to me that’s why this is it was the right move to get someone like patrino who obviously has a lot of success but says hey you you just do this cuz I know
I know you’re capable of like Dan Enos I think he was a head coach at Central Michigan or something like that for a little bit but he hadn’t been a head coach in a long time and you know he hadn’t really shown that very LEL yeah
Kall BRS even uh has been a successful offensive coordinator but he’s never been a head coach who’s ran you know been that in that role patrino is the best of all worlds where not only has he been a successful highly successful head coach he’s done it at different levels
And in different conferences and and he is a meticulous guy who who demands a lot and has a lot of details that’s been you know going to be put in that position so Pitman doesn’t have to worry about that it’s because here’s the thing if the offense doesn’t work this year
Andrew it’s not gonna be because of Sam Pitman it’s gonna be because of Bobby Trina Bob trino means that either he’s over the hill or doesn’t have the right Personnel whatever it is that’s going to be the issue last year it wasn’t about necessarily just Dan Enos it was just
About having a bunch of coaches that were not on the same page including Dan Enos not being ready for that role too so uh I want to talk about the defense though I know we talk a lot of offense and that’s what people care about the most but defense we haven’t talked much
About but you know linebacker still thin um still very thin still very thin you know the dline you got you mentioned the Landon Jackson strip that was a nice little play I there’s a lot of elements to it but the secondary to me is been holding its own and been looking pretty
Solid absolutely and you see it a really in those drills when it’s seven on seven or the one-on ones the receivers and DBS where there’s no other independent variables just DB versus receiver and you’re like hey we know Andrew Armstrong is good so when I see Jaylen Braxton
Making plays against him I’m like hey that’s legit you know it’s not one of those things where because all the time when we’re watching practice we’re having to decide okay the offensive line just gave up a sack does that mean they suck is the defense good like is it
Whatever you know like I said guys like Andrew Armstrong you know are good and so if you’re if you’re able to make plays against him and you know some of these guys that we’ve seen I mean Jaden Johnson almost had a pick today uh you know Jaylen Braxton had a nice play that
He decided to Dap You Up afterwards even Brad Spence almost had an interception during the seven on seven it seemed like the defense is at least starting to fight back a little bit and that’s been good I mean in the team periods it’s still like the offense is a step ahead
And I think part of that may just be play calling may just be you know Bobby really you know they’re the offense has more pressure where they’re trying to get things going so maybe they’re pulling out all the stops early I don’t know and you know also there’s just more
Experience on the offensive side of the ball at least it seems like with the skill guys but defensively it was definitely good and the pads were popping today cuz the first few days we weren’t seeing pads and so it’s like really tough to judge anything with the
Defense but one thing that really stuck out to me the very very beginning of practice they did a lineup thing with offensive line and defensive line and they were just going one-on-one they would go down the line like left tackles left guard whatever and it was just offense versus defense pads hitting
Dudes all firing up freshman defensive lineman cavon Henderson I got a shout out our boy posy or POA POA he got he got pile drove by cavon Henderson I don’t know if he just caught him off balance but the every he fired everyone up early and so it’s was like good to
See the defense have those moments and one thing that you’ve probably noticed is the defense they really cheer for each other if if someone makes a play the whole group is going crazy and that’s kind of the way on both sides of the ball but you know I mean there’s
Just so much fun energy with this team of people cheering for each other and I’m sure you know I’m not I’m not saying that’s going to last forever I mean it’s early in Spring it’s easy to have good vibes now but it’s it’s definitely been
Fun to be out there and see that group and see how well they they react when each other makes a play yeah and I even thought it was funny we can’t reference exactly what was said but it was funny where Jaden Johnson almost had that pick
And and uh Jaylen Braxton comes up and basically said he implied he should do some push-ups yeah do some push-ups get down and do your do your push-ups is what he was saying so he got down he did push-ups he did him man he did it looked
Like it was going to be an easy pick six but yeah you’re right about the energy and the hype and I even saw something here that this is not a bad thing folks so don’t take it the wrong way but one of the things I was seeing is when they
Were doing the one-on-one drills I guess with uh why I don’t know if I don’t think it was seven on seven it may have been full team no it was seven on seven but um you saw the quarterback’s coach and the wide receiver coach you know
Kind of being out there coaching all and the wide receiver new wide receiver coach obviously forgot his name already but uh he comes Fouch that’s right I wanted to think yes Ronnie Fouch because he want say Dylan Fouch and I’m like that’s not him uh but yeah he he goes up
And starts whispering to the wide or something in his ear while they’re lined up and quarterback s come over here and start saying hey don’t do that don’t do that don’t do that he’s like no they need to learn don’t do that so it was just again it’s it’s it’s good
Competition everybody’s fired up everyone have the energy # iron sharpens iron is what it is that’s right yes iron sharpens iron and that’s what they’re trying to do is sharpen it up but um you know again how much can you see how much can you really tell from Spring
Practices and what you see and the limited amount that you see uh it’s really hard to tell but I think like you said the the offense is ahead of the defense in the linebacker position this is my fear but it’s probably just going to have to be a reality the linebacker
Position is just going to be it is what it is like you’re just going to have to hope that zavon Sor stays healthy that Brad Spence stays healthy and maybe you can get a guy whether he’s already on the team to make some strides or get one
Those guys of that Carson Dean Alex Sanford like Kaden Hy whoever you want to name just one of those guys has to kind of step up and be a playable player and then I also think they’re just going to have to get creative with I mean we
Mentioned how much depth they have in the secondary like maybe just move some of those dudes around maybe run these like three 317 formations like I don’t know what you got to do but uh well it’ll be interesting to see how they go about that but yeah I mean defense I I
Tell you Marcus Woodson is the most hilarious coach to listen to he’s he’s now that Jimmy Smith is no longer around he’s without a doubt the funniest coach I feel like I used to love watching Jimmy Smith just yell because he he’s he’s like buddies with the dude so he’s
Kind of giving him a hard time here and there but Marcus woods and you just hear him yelling and yelling and yelling and sometimes it’s good yelling sometimes it’s bad but he’s just so loud all the time and during those wide receiver Corner drills it’s just really fun but
Yeah man I just really I mean I’m not trying to like buy all the hype after three days of spring practice I think arkans still has very real questions to answer on both sides of the ball really but I think from a culture standpoint and just a Vibe energy standpoint this
Coaching staff seems a lot more in sync which is kind of crazy considering they just replaced a running back coach but I really do I I like The Vibes at practice and it does seem like a good atmosphere where guys want to be there and I I you
Know you guys are probably hearing this thinking oh that is that that’s the case all the time it’s really not like last spring I did not say I would not have told you that last fall Camp I really would not have told you that in fact I
Did didn’t tell you that if you were if you followed my work um it’s not always just a happy go-lucky atmosphere out there at practice cuz football practice sucks we were even talking about it today we’re like it must you know if you’re an offensive lineman how do you
Get motivated to wake up at 6:00 a.m. and go out there and just get hit in in cold temperatures forever but so when you see these guys really having fun and like embracing what they’re with the situation they’re in it’s it’s very interesting and you know we talked about
How much pressures on Sam Pitman and how the urgency is there because he kind of has to win I don’t get that sense from the players I mean we talked to Gregory after the practice and he seemed like the most relaxed like confident he’s ever been and just talking about how he
Learned a lot last year and they all did and they’re excited for this opportunity you don’t get the sense that they feel that pressure and it’s that that might be the Best of Both Worlds where the coaching staff has that urgency but the players are able to just go out there
And play and at least early on that’s the vibe I’m getting and also makes you wonder that if they’re having that type of personality in that type of vibe the the new guys have are going to be that way anyways but as far as the guys from
Here last year even the year before if they’re still good if they’re still confident they’re still all that maybe I’m being naive but it kind of makes me feel like okay well the issues that they that may have been on the team or whatever they don’t feel like it’s still
There you know they don’t feel like it’s it was a Sam Pitman issue per se or that it was a you know oh well this particular player this particular teammate or their assistant coach whatever it is that gives me the vibe of like hey whatever may have been the
Issue last year especially inside the locker room or the type of culture or whatever is not here anymore and and I’m feeling pretty good about the direction it’s going and and again maybe I’m being naive but that’s at least how I would feel if I was a player if I was Eric
Gregory if I was still feeling like man this isn’t look any better then i’ be like uh whatever kind of Bumm to down in the dumps but you’re right maybe it looks like he’s just feeling good about the direction they’re going I think so and I think he even referenced the the
Energy of the offensive line and he was like it’s just different like the level of competition the level of what they’re bringing to practice each day is different and you know good bad or indifferent it’s defin or or or worse I mean it’s it’s definitely different because think about the the voices you
Hear from the players ton green is like clearly established himself as a leader on this team you know we can argue and debate between him and KJ but he’s clearly just different he’s a different person who’s leading Carmona was not here last year he’s clearly one of the
Leaders of the team jayen braxon is a guy we hear his voice a lot he was a true freshman last year so I just feel like some of the right leaders whether they’re better leaders worse whatever they’re just different and so it is a different culture a different vibe and
We’ll find out if that leads to success on the football field but I definitely don’t think this is just a running back the they’re not just running back the same units and same teams and hoping for different results it seems like a very different culture and we’ll find out how
Much better it ends up actually being that was interesting yesterday when we had a chance to catch up with Chris grg too he he’s of course going to practice he was at the practice again today he he’s definitely going there a lot more but he was also someone who went to
Practices under the Pitman era when he could and he’s been to a lot of practices and he even mentioned just the the speed of the practice is offensively where they’re at right now in Spring compared to what they were in previous years he didn’t mention names but he’s
Like it’s it’s a different thing to where it’s not about just making sure you get it right but get it right and you better get moving like you better do it quickly you better you got to know where you’re at you got to know what what you’re doing and so those are just
Little small pieces that could really make a difference this year where I think think the team talent wise is good enough to compete in the SEC you know I don’t think they’re good enough to go 12 and0 but can they win seven eight games I think the talents there uh is the
Depth there at some positions not all but at some positions and is the coaching there well we’ll have to find out in a lot of cases but point is is this team was so close to winning some big games last year it’s going to be those little small differences in those
Minor Details it’s going to be the difference of them having another losing season or possibly going to a bowl game because those games against Bama LSU Old Miss on the road Mississippi State BYU you’re talking about just four or five things in each game that would have
Taken them from going from a 4 four 4 and8 team to an eight and four team as simple as that you want to know why this team’s going to be better John why they finished the Reps that’s right they finished the Reps we laughing about that
Today how like even if it’s a three yard completion they want you to finish it they want you to run all the way down to the freaking End Zone it doesn’t matter if we’re at Midfield and to seeing those dudes do that it’s it’s pretty funny because it logistically it’s like it
Just doesn’t make any sense but I love you know as a like I I fall for all the cheap stuff like the little cliches and stuff I love that kind of stuff see you see the you know dasma James sprinting for 50 yards going down there it’s good stuff yeah my favorite
Thing was seeing I forgot which player it was but he caught a pass that was so far out of bounds like it was so far out of bounds probably five yards and he was so bad that because of the finishing thing he he finished on the other
Practice field he just kept running and finishing on the other practice field and it just cracked me up because I’m like that seems absurd but no that’s that’s the mentality where it’s like no matter as soon as you catch the ball you go like it just that’s just the
Mentality and that’s something that’s I don’t again I didn’t watch all the practices last year but I know that’s a patrino special cuz man I remember hearing Paul patrino yell at those guys during that patrino era of like finish finish finish is that going to be the difference between this wide receiver
Crew being average to great I mean maybe so but it’s it’s definitely a mentality that needs to be put in in into perspective of where they’re at and what what is expected of them they’re like hey every single time you got to finish
The play uh but I want to see more I’m a cliche guy like that too like I like to see the little he was he was hitting the hey I I see a lot of walking between stations is that what we do here is that what we’re doing I love that man CU
Here’s the thing it’s like as a player you never really know at least in those instances like okay well walking I mean I thought it was jogging but no we do you mean you we need to do a full Sprint right like is that is that what we’re
Wanting to line yeah because if you do a full Sprint I think that that’s good then everybody has to do a full Sprint and they’re going to be like hey slow down like chill out you’re going to run into somebody you know it’s any any highle athlete should have perfected the
Fake jog to kind of you’re like pumping and you’re you’re you’re faking like you’re running but you’re still kind of getting that rest yep you got to know that if you’re especially if you’re an O lineman because those big boys they shouldn’t be having a run I’ll be honest
With you you can’t make them run between stations but give a little fake job because offensive line there is NE there should be should be never a case where they do full Sprints ever oh no yeah like I mean they they’ll have to get a pull or whatever and I guess if an
Interception is thrown maybe have to give a little more effort but should they should never be a full Sprint so therefore they don’t need to be fully sprinting they need to be working on a little backpedal and a little and a little arm movement and and driving
People forward that’s what they need to be working on by the way you know they didn’t have full pads on the day not like the the the thigh and knee pads and everything but I’m assuming soon I mean maybe Thursday they’ll be in full pads but they were definitely cracking today
Like you know not tackling full to the ground yet but they’ll they’re they’re going to be doing that soon it’s it was a very physical practice out there today which that’s when we can really get the takes going we start seeing these pads popping these boys hitting you know we
Saw some dudes leave injured not injured but like the dudes get banged up have to leave like you really weren’t seeing that the first few days cuz it was a little bit more laxidasical we’re uh we’re getting into the pads are popping boys they’re popping they’re going to
Pop on everybody but the quarterback we know that that and and I want I’m I’m hoping that there’s a time where we can see it again if it’s throwback Bobby patrino where if there’s a defensive player that gets an interception because I remember that was that was a thing he
Hated if a guy picked off his quarterback in practice don’t do that well now he’s not the head coach so I wonder you know if he tries to pull that stuff Travis Williams you know Woodson or whatever be like uh you go to kick rocks that’s what exactly
What we’re supposed to do so well if he doesn’t like interceptions in practice I should mention the guy the one guy that I believe came down with an interception Maris Robinson the South Alabama transfer Corner who’s looked pretty good the last couple days he had an interception there were about six
Dropped ones so those guys must have been listening to patrino because there were a lot of dropped interceptions which you know make of that what you will but and defense was making some plays what was it that Lee Corso Al always said on the NCAA football games
Like there’s the reason why they don’t play defense instead of offense they can’t like you could have the animation was so messed up you could have like a legit pass Break Up In The End Zone great play and You’ be like that’s why he’s not playing offense it’s like that
Yeah it’s like just rotating them in and out of like the next line that was needed to happen but that’s like the old adage for people of like cornerbacks and whatnot so but yeah it was just good again to get out there in practice got to see them outside this time they
Weren’t inside first time it felt like real football yeah we weren’t playing in the dome you I got the black rubber thingies in my shoes still that from walking on the grass and uh you know we no one I don’t think any media member got hit although there’s some close
Calls that people don’t you got to be on your head on a swivel there a couple times where we were kind of in the line of fire a little bit mhm yeah who’s a player that like wide receiver defensive back you would not want to take a hit
From because those are really the most of the time who you would be hit by well I mean defensive back I don’t know because they don’t have any like huge big ones the receiving room is pretty big I mean TLA that’s a large guy I mean was he 63
225 like he’s big and you know has some speed so I wouldn’t want to get hit by him but Luke has is the one that sticks out it’s like that’s a big de like he and he what’s crazy he’s smaller than he’s ever been now he lost a bunch of
Weight they were asking about that today uh but man that dude’s a that dude’s a tank that dude dude has some wild hair going on too man yeah got to clean that up man give it a little brush before you go to the media room jeez yeah I know
Seriously you remember how KJ implemented the shirt they had to start handing out shirts at the thing they might have to brush their hair before they enter the medeia room after Luke has kind of a right a passage you got to pretty yourself up man but hey as long
As he keeps catching one-handed passes yeah he can do AR had that one-handed touchdown today that was that was beautiful that was one of the first like plays that they started doing too like it was it might have been the first throw ton green just drops it in there
Boom yeah like Andrew Armstrong is going to be the best wide receiver on this team I don’t think that’s a surprise but you can just tell he’s he’s so good man he’s so well-rounded he reminds me a little bit of Kobe Hamilton just overall skill set because he’s like got the Deep
Threat ability but he’s not like a burner he’s got like The Possession you know reard after the catch stuff but he’s not like Isaiah satania but he’s got a little bit of all those skill sets that kind of make him a nice little well rounder receiver and he’s a big body I
Just they’re going to throw he’s going to catch 90 passes this year oh yeah and you mentioned well-rounded it’s not like every single pass he’s getting is just like within the window and he has to go up and get it or something there’s times where he’s wide open Crazy Ones I mean
Well and also Tom Murphy couldn’t believe whenever he was in that the picture I showed you earlier yeah but it was like the even the wide open thing when you know because you’re watching the quarterback and you deliver the throw and he’s wide open you know means
Defensive backs are bad maybe but it’s also maybe showing about his route running ability his you know physicality and and his fakes like there could be a lot of elements to it but yeah there just seems to be your go-to guy wide receiver wise he’s going to be it I
Think it’s going to be Armstrong there and then has in the a group of like five different receivers after that where they’re all kind of like you know I feel the same about all of them different skill sets but all in the same kind of range but a Tyrone broden’s another one
That’s been really good but Andrew Armstrong he’s a first team all rep finisher he’s always finishing his reps and even got Pitman really excited about the other day his cardio must be crazy because I feel like he’s every time we look up he’s in there making plays downfield and running
Finishing the Reps but he just doesn’t get tired man no no in fact he he just again continues to finish plays and that’s what we want to see so but we’re going to have a lot more to discuss here on the show and get some of your questions and comments about spring
Practice today tomorrow’s pro day so we’re not going to have a chance to get out there and see what’s going on there but still it’ll be fun to at least check it out again Thursday we get to hear from Sam Pitman and all that but I’m really excited folks here on the show

And discuss especially dealing with the Razorback football team and spring practice and we’ll get to more of those things as I know that there’s an excitement surrounding and some of the questions that you have because the question I’m posing to all of you folks is what’s the one question you want
Answered this spring football for the Razer aack it could be a position battle it could be uh something more General but whatever but let us know in the comments section and uh we’ll discuss some of those but it’s time for your Arkansas update brought to you by Davis and Garrett Insurance your Independent
Auto Owners Insurance Agency securing what matters most uh but uh a few of these things though that have been talked about at least here in the comments section and some of the questions that we’ve had like Hayden King for instance says Brad Spence said in his interview he was going to step up
Do you see that happening in practice I mean I do we me and Andrew were talking a little bit about it too not only at practice but also um later on is that even though the linebacker depth is not necessarily there it’s not exactly popping and and getting crazy with it it
Is still at least fascinating to see how it plays out the manner that it plays out and I would even go as far as to say him and zavon Sor that transferred out of Georgia or the two guys that are solidified at that linebacker position
And there could be more like you got you got to have other guys step up and they’re going to have to play like they’re going to be more than just two guys playing but he says of right now those are the only two that I see being already the guys and being
Already the guys that they’re going to count on which is can be worrisome for depth perception but also can be good because I feel like they’re solid guys I feel like they’re SEC caliber linebackers but they need more guys to step up just besides Brad Spence I I
Really I really believe that high red guy says after uh the first few practices uh where we we at should be for for fan expectation hitting in game one oh where should you be at as far as fan expectation game one well I mean
That’s up to you as the fans I I still think like you know last year the talent was there you know what I’m saying like the talent was there to be better than 4-8 it was at least an 8 and4 team or at least s and five we’ll go s and5 because
The schedule was pretty tough but it was at least a seven and five team you should have won like you should have beaten Mississippi State you should have beaten BYU you should have beaten Auburn to be honest I feel like you were at least talented enough to beat those teams and
The other ones we’ll see but knowing what they have as a team now and assuming which we knowum what assuming does but assuming that it’s going to be a much better cohesive group and a better looking group overall that’s better communicated and and going
To be able to come together as a team I think that the a reasonable expectation for fans should be six and six this year at the minimum like the floor for this team should be six- six you should win three of your nonconference games the
Oklahoma State game is going to be a big one on the road that one’s a tossup at this point point cuz both teams you never really know what to expect Oklahoma state has kind of had more of a knack of not looking as good early as
They finish but could be all over the place there too uh but I I still think that if you win three of your non-conference games there are three SEC wins in there I think Mississippi State on the road could be a team that you should should beat uh we’ll talk with
Chris Gordy about that later but I would say definitely a Mississippi State should be a victory who who knows what A&M looks like not saying you’ll win but there’s a lot of uncertainty there final game in Jerry world thank goodness you know how how how does that go how does
Auburn look on the road you know you know Missouri are they actually a team that’s sustainable and going to be good for a couple years in a row or was last year a fluke which could be the case it is Missouri so maybe that happens and
Then your four home games in the SEC are your toughest games without question but again I you’ve done really well against Old Miss since slan ke’s been there as weird as it is you’ve done really well against him you either blew him out or you lost barely and it’s at home so
Maybe there what about LSU how’s that going to look I don’t think you beat Texas man Texas is really strong and Tennessee is up there so the point is is like I think that they’re on the schedule well once we get closer we’ll start actually picking them but I think
Looking at the schedule there are six wins in there there truly are six wins in there that should be the floor six wins bare minimum expectation seven wins outright where it needs to be eight wins and above party it up and have a great time
Folks it was a great season and a bounce back uh let’s see Chris G says if you got a chance to see and hear him what did you think of the new running back coach Kobe Smith yeah we kind of talked about that in the opening we got a
Chance to see him and if you if you haven’t had a chance to check out the highlights that we post on our YouTube page at night State sports check it out because in the very beginning you see Kobe Smith and how he handles the running backs they seem to very be very
Responsive he seemed to be energized they seem to be you know going with the flow of how it needs to be so just in the practice in the in the very little we had a chance to see it looked good it looked good I think it being a patrino
Guy like we mentioned yesterday is so helpful because that way there’s not this learning curve where you have a new coach coming in he’s having to learn about the verbiage and he’s having to learn about the the okay well I’ve never coached with this guy before or this guy
Before so I don’t know what to expect I don’t know what these drills are because he’s worked with patrino so often and for so many years he knows what to expect he knows what’s expected of him so I think that that makes it a lot easier at least from the coaching aspect
If the players can catch up and be able to adjust that’ll be extremely helpful but it looked good from the from what we got to see it looked good Kingsley also says how does Sor look I know he’s got a super big guy more of an athlete but is
There possibility of him being used in a Herold Perkins type of role I from what we saw I didn’t see much of that I mean he is strictly just in a in a linebacker position and partly I think of that is because there’s so little depth at the
Linebacker position they can’t afford to you know have him lining up there on the line of scrimmage all the time and trying to rush the quarterback we haven’t had a chance to really see that and I think that’ll also happen too when we get in full pads full contact you
Know maybe see a little bit more of what the role he’s trying to play or what they want him to play but because of the linebacker depth being so little it might be used to where since your secondary might be an actual strength that’s that’s not perfect but an actual
Strength you feel better about the coverage so maybe you put more of those linebackers in pass rush situations trying to help out the D line because you feel good about your secondary maybe there’s a little bit of that too but uh from what I saw though he’s looked good
He’s looked fine but you know we’ll have to actually have to wait and see how he molds into his own and how that plays out I think I Chris G I think hopefully a your question about that David says nice intro thanks man I I do like my
Intro and I appreciate everybody who has uh come up to me and has talked about my intro and said hey man I love your intro I’m like good I mean you don’t have to love my show don’t have to love anything I have to say you hate my face that’s
Fine but at least you like my intro that’s what I’m going for if I can just get one of the many things for you guys to like that’s what I care about um somebody asked about the kicker too which I’ll be honest we have not seen the kicker at all like they’ve been
Doing special teams but there’s been so much for uh so much for trying to watch everything and especially with offensive defense because it is the most important but we do know in the kicking position you got Matt Shipley uh who’s a transfer from Hawaii as well as a veto calvaruso
Which is such a fun name to say uh as he’s been a guy that’s it’s amazing he’s a red shirt senior he’s been around for a bit but he was a transfer from Wisconsin did kickoff duties last year those are your two guys I don’t know
Who’s going to win the job I have no clue and I honestly wish I could sit here and say oh yeah it’s definitely this guy but vetos I got the experience at least you’ve seen a little bit of them but Shipley I’m not sure we did get to see some puning
And okay like I’ll I’ll just be honest the punning in the beginning was like looking oh gosh what’s happening here but then it shaped up it then it shaped up I don’t know if that was because of the cold or because of the the type of
Practice that they’re doing it I I don’t really know but there’s some ducks getting punted out and then once it’s settled in they start booming it once again so that there’s that for those of you who are really curious about the puning situation there for Arkansas we
Got an idea for that too uh but yeah there you have it folks there is your Arkansas update brought to you by Davis and Garrett Insurance your Independent Auto Owners Insurance Agency securing what matters the most yeah keep those comments and those questions coming folks um because again I’ll try to help
In any way I can from at least what I was able to see uh cuz again we got when you get that up close it’s really cool where you know we could sit there and film the entire practice from beginning to end and you might be able to catch some things or
See some things that you like but actually be there and to hear what you hear and hear the coaches and the way they talk and how they coach and hear from the players and how they interact and hear from the competitions and everything I like that and you get to
Know a little bit more about where the energies at the personality the competitive nature all those things and I’m going to tell you right now this is a 100% a heads up for those you who may not know and hopefully you guys understand this there more than likely will be a
Time in these practices in the spring where there’s going to be a little bit of a brewhaha it was going to be a little bit of a scuffle because they’re highly competitive guys and maybe offensive line defensive line could be against wide receiver and quarterbacks there’s going to be like a bunch of
People caving in trying to pull it off like it’s going to happen and it’s probably going to be reported and when it is you can’t just be like oh things are bad things are bad they’re already fighting against each other this is not exactly it happens every practice with
Every team sometimes doesn’t escalate to the point that sometimes it does but still it’s a very very very common thing it always has been and it always will be so if you hear about us talking about it or uh you know seeing it reported by Natty State Sports just know that it’s
Common it’s okay there’s no reason for them to freak out and everybody to freak out and say how horrible things is like it’s just not that case so just uh remember remember that uh and understand that there’s going to be different things happening uh let’s see there was another
Question too I was going to try to answer but I said a lot of them got put in here in the comment section I may have lost it so I apologize if you got any more uh hit me up with them but I know Chris Gordy is going to be joining
Us of the lock on SEC podcast as well as the Sports Talk 790 down there in Houston we’ll talk him about Arkansas because he had a great interview with ton green uh the Q qb1 uh because I think that that’s what’s going to be most fascinating is to see the backup
Quarterback position in fact Justin just asked there in the comments is chriswell still running with the threes so it’s TN green number one but qb2 seems to be as wide open as anything because we saw T U not t and green but we saw joobi crisell
Run with the twos and the threes we saw KJ Jackson run with the twos and the threes we saw Malachi Singleton run with the twos and the threes so all of them have been running with twos and threes I I I didn’t sit there and count but it
Certainly seemed like they were bitten about the even amount of reps like there wasn’t one that was getting more qb2 reps than the other so it seems to me it’s a pretty dead lck and I know Kings just said he’s very surprised about Criswell playing with the third team and
I’d say I would I would be a little bit surprised too just in this early part of spring but then when I think think about it you have a new quarterback coach you got patrino all of that to me it starts to make me wonder maybe just maybe this
Is just the early part of spring we’re like Hey we’re going to open it up and we’re going to figure this out and see who handles it the best and I’m not saying that chriswell is not going to win the uh the backup job or that you know somebody’s just looking Lighty
Years better than him I’m not saying that but they’re letting him fight it out and patrino knows his quarterbacks and if there’s something about it where he could be as gifted of an athlete as possible or he could have a great arm but if he’s not understanding the
Offense or not coming along as quickly or whatever then that could be a problem maybe he doesn’t have the chemistry at the wide receivers I don’t know there could be some issues there but I trust patrino and I trust the quarterback room of the talent that they have but yeah
Next next week is spring break so we’re not going to get any practices we’ll have the last one will be on Thursday and maybe they’ll change there but as of right now qb2 is wide open nobody’s passing the other one as of right now but qb1 seems to be well handled Matthew
Ask how’s bra bra Russell look brayan’s been good I mean you can tell he’s a true freshman I mean if you if you really want to put it on it I guess he technically should be a senior in high school because this is Spring ball after
All but he is a he is a true freshman he’s big he looks the part him wearing number zero is going to take some time because I’ve always been used to AJ Green because he’s since the number zero has been able to been used AJ Green has
Been the only one I’ve known at number zero in the running back position but overall I i’ I’ve liked what he’s been able to bring to the table I like his size I like his upside it’s there the running back position is extremely deep folks hopefully with now you got a new
Coaching Colby Smith and the portal is going to be opening up here in a few weeks hopefully you’re able to maintain all this talent but the running back room as long as they maintain who they have there in the running back room and also they stay healthy which is very
Important I think the running backs will be a strength of this team I really do I don’t know what role bril and Russell will play in it but Rashad Deion’s getting some run even of course the guy that always forget his name I and I feel
Bad because I always have to look it up on the roster but it’s the Utah transfer one of these days I’m going to end up getting it right without constantly having to reference it but jindon Jackson number 22 he definitely looks the part he looks good uh I love the even Dominic Johnson
Getting out there has been great to see I know he’s dealt with a lot of injuries so it’s been great to see him uh getting after it and cutting it up and and making it happen but I’ve just again the running back position I’m have no fear
About it’s going to be a lot of running backs out there they’re going to run uh and I think at the end of the day you’re going to see I don’t think aransa has a thousand yard rusher which if they do that’s great I’m not complaining but
I could see about three guys having you know 600 plus yards type of thing and that’s not even including somebody like a ton Russell who we know he can run the ball how much is he going to be there too not totally sure Kings says Domo looking more comfortable today yeah I I
Think so I I’m really rude for him man I’m really rooting for him he’s stuck with it he didn’t have to but he’s stuck with it and we saw what he was capable of just a a few Jesus I guess it is a few seasons ago 2021 he to me he was the
Best running back towards the end of 2021 I I really believe it and it’s unfortunate that he got hurt because he was big he was just a big dude who had some physicality to him he was so important to the team so I I keep hoping that he continues to get better and
Continues to improve because he’s at least right now he’s looked very good too we’ll talk more about this stuff with Chris Gordy on the other side of the break and know we’ll get to more of your questions and comments too folks but I got to tell you about Superior

Get into it right right now we are joined by a very special guest a guy who knows all about SEC football because spring practice is underway not only just for the Razer backs but for everybody involved in the SEC so let’s go ahead and welcome in our next guest
It is Chris Gordy of the locked on SEC podcast as well as Sports Talk 790 down there in Houston and Gordy as always man appreciate you joining us how you doing this afternoon yeah definitely man good to be on with you and uh man it’s it’s
Uh this is always a fun time of year because there’s so much going on right baseball’s into the thick of it about the star conference play softball’s you know they’re in conference play now uh we got you know the SEC tournament happening and then of course uh March
Madness right around the corner and uh man just a a busy busy time of year and yeah of course we got every SEC team on the practice field with missou being and the one weirdos that they’ll play their spring game this weekend because Eli dritz likes to be weird and do it way
Earlier than everybody else but yeah it’s that that weird time where everybody’s on the practice field this week in the SEC Missouri eii drink Woods being weird never heard of it didn’t ever think that would exist I mean who who would have guessed that but no I I
Know it’s uh it’s a fun time and people getting revved up for at least a little bit of the Spring ball and I know Razorback fans are but maybe in in different ways and you had a really great sit down interview there with TN green which fun fact uh here at 0 State
Sports the Boss Hog podcast with the offensive lineman from Arkansas actually featured ton green earlier this week and you had a great interview so just tell us what you got out of him and what you were able to speak with him on because from all intents and purposes and from
What I’ve heard from him he’s a very well spoken individual a great leader and it seems like he’s going to be qb1 when this is all said and done yeah he’s a good kid um dual threat quarterback um you know the big thing he said to me he
He loved Sam Pitman but he said the the biggest sell for him was getting a play for Bobby patrino and he talked about you know just the style of the offense really suiting his skill set and you know I don’t want to do a one for one
Compe you know look I’m gonna say the word the words Lamar Jackson he’s not Lamar Jackson okay uh can he can he be very successful and maybe at times have shades of a great play that Lamar Jackson made maybe um keep in mind Lamar Jackson in college had some UPS up and
Down moments I mean I was I remember watching him on a Thursday night down in Houston playing the Cougars and he got sacked something like 11 or 12 times in that game it was like ridiculous but uh all that being said you know that’s kind
Of who taen said he you know of of guys he models his game after he mentioned Lamar he mentioned Josh Allen he me mentioned Justin Herbert obviously these are guys that are big- time NFL quarterbacks and again we’re not making a comparison we’re just saying like
What’s your style what can we expect and watching some of his highlights at Boise um you know he went through a lot of stuff there with with coaching changes different you know all this different stuff he thought he was the guy and then they brought in you know they had other
Quarterb back behind him and you know he got benched at one point and didn’t really know what was going on so I he went through a lot of turmoil there but at the end of the day uh after injuries he ends up the guy at the end of the
Year last year at Boise and leads him to a Mountain West uh Championship was MVP of that game so the kid has got some unique skills uh I would like to see him continue to develop that arm talent I think he he has an arm that can get
Better uh as time goes along more accurate uh I want to see him throw some more deep balls as well but we know the running ability was is there that’s that’s going to be a key for his game and it’s and it’s different from KJ
Right I mean I know a lot of people are going to be wanting to well is this an upgrade is this clear downgrade from KJ Jefferson whatever um it’s different style I think he’s more elusive whereas KJ was more M Truck you know try to run
You over so um you know it’s just gonna be interesting to see I think I think it’s a win-win with patrino coming in I think that that Playbook is still very relevant and can win in the SEC and um you know I I think they’re going to
Still s the things that it’s an open quarterback competition and they’re going to make t go out there and earn it but all the Vibes and everything I’m hearing so far is that you know he’s the leader in the clubhouse and at the end of the day I think we will have ton
Green as your starting quarterback and J quindon Jackson as your starting running back so you know last year Gordy as much as anybody Arkansas really struggled and what was surprising was the offense being as bad as it was because you returned KJ Jefferson you had rocket Sanders both of those guys are at
Different schools right now with KJ being at UCF and Rocket Sanders actually being at South Carolina but you mentioned Bobby Pat ton green you got pretty much the entire wide receiver crew back you got Luke ha a true freshman last year that unfortunately got hurt early in the season but looked
Really great uh the offensive line there’s been a lot of changes there on the staff but overall the offense specifically for Arkansas with patrino at the helm how good can this offense be with ton green with all these guys coming back into this year and especially given the schedule that
Arkansas has in the NC yeah I mean what’s crazy is even if they’re just middle of the pack it’s an improvement from where they were last year I mean Dan Enos is going to be you know as much as vilified as Chad Morris still is in in fville I think you know
When we talk about dirty words I think Dan Enos is one of those dirty words that that’s going to get thrown around um you know I I do think they’re a little bit deeper like I I think you’re going to see you know I I think you know
Deignan is is shown he can he can carry the workload I like I said I’m excited about you Quinton Jackson to see what he can do but yeah bringing the receivers back I mean they’re looking for the alpha right I mean since tayin left you know who who’s been that guy who can
Step up and be that guy but you know T’s was very complimentary of of Armstrong and and uh you know Tesla and you know we we’ll see what uh what guys like jayon you know Wilson bring and all that but um man it’s it’s it’s a group that I
Think is going to be like how can they not be better than last year put it that way like and you mentioned h i mean he had the monster game against LSU and just looked like the sky is the limit for him so maybe I’m just being Uber
Optimistic I know a lot of people across the SEC outside of you know our our country you know look at Sam Pitman as dead man walking and you know the basically some people think there’s nothing he can do to save his job because the schedule’s brutal and and we
Get that but man look if the offense is decent I go back and look at what patrino did with Conor Wegman last year he had Conor Wegman playing his best football in in an A&M uniform before he got hurt and obviously they had the pivot and you know he had Max Johnson
And all that it was just a mess but I thought Bobby patrin was getting the best on a Conor Wegman and so I I I’m encouraged I I do think that that the arrows pointed upward for this Arkansas offense and we know in the SEC these
Days you got to score points I think the defense will be a little bit better with some new pieces back there but you got to score points in this league to win and I’m I’m optimistic I think they’ve got some players that are ready to step
Up and I think they’re going to score some points this year Well you mentioned Sam Pitman and I think that that’s where everyone’s question is kind of getting alluded to as far as maybe a dead man walking it’s his fifth year each year since 2021 he went from nine wins seven
Wins and then four wins see certainly seems like his back is against the wall but they’ve still been competitive at times even in the beginning part at the end it kind of fell apart but in the beginning of last year he lost to Alabama and LSU both on the road by a
Field goal lost to Old Miss by a touchdown seems like they’re competitive but do you think that Sam Pitman does enough this year to keep his job and remain on staff and on Coach as the 60y year rolls around next season yeah I mean the the easy answer
Is no I mean again that’s the the if we’re making betting odds like I haven’t seen you know normally we get one of those websites sends out like uh you know odds on the first SEC coach to be fired I’m sure him and Billy nap are
Going to be right up there at the top but you know there there are some swing games and you mentioned they they played some really close games last year some with some close losses I think that that Oklahoma State trip in week two was fascinating because you know you win
That one you come back home I think you beat UAB you’re going into Auburn 3 and 0 and I put that that one is a 50-50 game right now Auburn has not taken that step forward uh you know going into year two of few freeze on the planes like they’re handy they’re quarterback
Handicapped I mean they’re they’re putting all their faith in one guy and it’s I don’t think that’s the right move I think they should have hit the transfer portal to go you know upgrade the quarterback position and they have not so you know Auburn like I said I put
It 50/50 the the defense takes a big step back because they lose a lot of pieces in that secondary Ron Roberts is now over at Florida so you win that one suddenly you’re 4-0 you know going to Dallas to go play A&M which we know is usually typically always a close game um
And then who knows after that you know you win that one you’re five and0 you you can take a loss to LSU or Tennessee and you know I think Mississippi state’s going to go through a real hard transition period that they just don’t have the talent right now so I’m not
Scared of of playing them in their house and then you get Old Miss and Texas at home uh and then Missouri I think is going to take a little bit of a step back this year I know you guys have had trouble with them recently so I I I lay
All that out to say like seven and five is is doable and is seven and five enough to to keep his job I would say yeah I I don’t think I don’t think I think Razer back fans would be a little bit optimistic now a lot of people might
Say well where’s that really getting us you know we should be taking that Leap Forward but I think seven and five is the B anything less than seven and five I think they’re making a change I think even six and six and going to b game
Game isn’t enough there’s got to be that Leap Forward and you know it’s a schedule where you avoid Alabama it’s a schedule where you know you avoid Georgia I mean you avoid some of the big dogs in the conference so you know look we always talk about Arkansas schedule
And it is always brutally tough but when you get to avoid the two you know Main Stays the two big dogs that have been the big dogs the last few years in the SEC and Batman and Georgia this is your best opportunity to get to a 78 win
Season speaking with Chris Gordy here on the John Neighbors show he is the host of the locked on SEC podcast as well as Sports stock 790 down there in Houston Gordy I want to Circle back to the Bobby patrino thing because if it wasn’t for that hire by Sam Pitman people were
Ready to get the pitchforks out and have this man fired and that at least provided some excitement and some energy he was at A&M last year but even in the press conference he alluded to he he did he wasn’t able to have full Reign Over a
Lot of things that maybe made him feel uncomfortable but this year it’s seems like it’s a different because Sam pitman’s like hey you’re it’s all you but just looking at him how do you think that that hire is going to work out for Arkansas and also is it going to be
Where it’s Lightyear’s difference of what Arkansas can do I guess really the question is is Arkansas’s defense or the offense going to be the reason why they have success this season well it’s got to be the offense um you know it’s again I go back to you
Got to score points to win in this league and again I go back to exhibit a of what Conor Wegman was at the start of last year with with patrino call in the plays you know they put up 52 points on on New Mexico in week one they go and
Lose at Miami in week two but you know the offense had some inconsistencies turn the ball over but the defense was pitiful I mean they they let uh was a Tyler van djk throw for like 400 yards on them and score 48 points offense still got 33 so you know I give them
That and then you know they put it on Yu Monroe the next week 47 points and then of course that Auburn game uh gets away from him where Wegman is is hurt and done for the year basically so uh I just look at that sample size through the
First few weeks where the offense was was looking really good with Wegman running the show um you know they they were still kind of running back by committee last year with A&M they were still kind of struggling to find that replacement for Devon aan and you know
They kind of went running back by committee with Amari Daniels and Lev and Moss and those guys but I do think I think Arkansas is in a little bit better spot if J Quin and Jackson is as good as I think he will be uh you know with
Rashad behind him and you know a bevy of backs I think this offense can look a little bit like that and and again be the strength of this team I just you know I think we’ve gotten a little bit jaded because we we’ve heard this the
Last two oh KJ Jefferson’s back oh yeah Dan Eno it’s like we got a little jaded thinking we were going to see that so I understand why some people will be skeptical but I I just I like the pieces everything I’ve heard is that the offensive line is going to be way better
That’s obviously been the weak the weak point the last few years and you know was supposed to be a strength under Sam Pitman you know if you’d asked me when he was hired at Arkansas I would have told you well the one thing you never have to worry about with the Sam Pitman
Coach team is you know the old Line’s going to be strong well it hasn’t been and it was not last year but you know Carmona Blackstock you know some of these pieces they brought in I I think I think they can be better I know Ty
Crawford I had him on the show last year I know he’s been putting in work trying to get better so uh we’ll see if the offensive line is holding their own and they’re given you know and again with a dual quarterback it kind of changes everything too if Jaylen green can roll
Out and buy time with his feet you know you don’t have to be perfect every time in pass protection but uh if you can run Block open some holes for those backs yeah I I’m excited to see man I I again maybe I’m being way too uh optimistic
Here but I think the the Arkansas offense can be the strength of this team and and help lead the way well I know that there’s not a whole lot to dive into as far as any specifics of it but it was really interesting speaking of the Arkansas offense you had Jimmy Smith
The running back coach leave after spring practice day two like he was literally practicing with the team and coaching them in the morning and in the afternoon he was named the new running backs coach of TCU Arkansas move quickly on that but my question to you Gordy is
Is something like that in a move like that is that bad for stability does that is that a bad look for Arkansas maybe a bad look for Pitman when you’re having one of your best assistant coaches at least in recruiting and everything leave after spring practice day two or is it
Just say sometimes it happens because that’s college sports and when opportunities arise you have coaches taking them regardless of the timing of them yeah that that’s where we are right now with college football I mean it is it is like look around the league uh uh
You know when you look around the league John and see all the changes we’ve had I mean Alabama literally you know they they make a hire to Bringing kayin deor and you know Ryan grub is going to be the OC he’s on campus talking to boosters and recruiting doing in-house
Visits and then all of a sudden he’s going to the Seattle Seahawks I mean it it has been the wildest offseason for turnover on assistant coaches I think we’ve ever seen and I need to do the math but man I I think somebody said we
Don’t have the same OC or DC in the same position at any ACC school that we had three years ago like it’s been complete upheaval and turnover on every staff so if that doesn’t tell you something right there on on how you know this is a it’s
A moving Target and I credit them for you know getting Colby Smith in and obviously he’s a guy who knows patrino very well and they’re going to work in sync together um so you know again if if we’re critiquing the higher I mean I think it’s you know a guy that at least
Is going to be uh on the same page as patrino and and doing what they want to do but yeah I wouldn’t say you know it’s easy to go oh this guy looked at what he had and said oh we’re not gonna we’re gonna be fired after this year anyway
Whatever I just don’t put any stock into it I mean we just saw uh you know LSU o you know they win the U uh win the Heisman trophy with Jaden Daniels and he still leaves and jumps ship for Notre Dame that doesn’t mean he doesn’t
Believe in Garrett NM just means he got a better opportunity and get more money he’s closer to home where he’s from so um you know everybody’s got their own reasons for for moving on but I don’t put you know 10 years ago yeah you would have been like what the hell’s going on
Why are we losing all these assisted coaches but that’s where we are now man there was no loyalty anywhere it’s it’s about assisted coaches getting paid more uh you know it’s it’s all about guys get go look around the league right now and see how many guys have have title of Co
C DC assistant head coach assistant to the head coach it’s just like it’s so funny all the titles that they’ve had to add to guys and and the big thing behind it is more money hey raises you a bump and pay here yeah I’ll jump ship from
Auburn to Florida Ron Roberts like what every was like he had a great defense at Auburn last year why would he leave Florida more money and you know an added assistant title role over there Florida so I don’t put much stock in it but again you know if we’re looking at Colby
Smith I I think it’s a great higher and we’ll see how he and patrino operate you know you mentioned uh the uncertainty and how crazy it is in college football and you go back to you know no loyalty being there which I agree with you but
Like is that good I I mean l is always a good thing and I think people are kind of still weary of the future of college football college sports in general but the lack of loyalty and everything I don’t know man it just I don’t like it
But it’s here it’s almost like I don’t like it but I have to embrace it I don’t like it but it’s going to be the way it is like how does how do you approach this where there is no loyalty and there’s a lot of uncertainty and you
Never know what’s going to happen any given time any given year any given month it’s just money man you you got to reward your coach coaches who do a good job and I think even more so if you’re if your OC or DC did a pretty good job
You not a great job but did a pretty good job you got to talk bump and pay I mean because there was somebody out there lurking ready to go grab them um you know it’s crazy like I said I mentioned Mike Den Brock LSU had a LSU
Said we got to pay Mike Den Brock he just coached Jaden Daniels to Heisman Trophy uh win and have proposal on the table for a bump and pay but it still had to go to the board and get approved and all this stuff and and while that
Was in the works Notre Dame swept in and grabbed them so you know again it’s it’s it’s all about the money it’s all about the dollars and cents a few weeks ago Lane K said Derek Nicks is on my staff he ain’t leaving he’s an old missrebel
Through and through and two weeks later he’s announced this Auburn’s new OC it’s just we have had the biggest influx of uh or changes on assistant coaching staffs I think we’ve ever seen in the SEC this offseason but this is just the day and age we’re in it’s it’s all about
The dollars and cents and while we’re talking about nil and getting the kids paid and and rightfully so um you also got to be talking about paying your assistance and when somebody’s good it’s hard to retain them man I mean LSU had to step up to the play Big Time to get
Bo Davis played his LSU career uh his career at LSU in college he has been the white whale for LSU they’ve been trying to get him as an assistant for decades uh he was at Alabama he’s been at Texas under Sark and they loved him there I I
Talked to DeAndre swea at the Sugar Bowl raved about how great Bo Davis was as the dline coach of Texas it took LSU stepping up and paying an ex ex orbit amount of money to pull him out Brian Kelly gets him as his dline coach so um
You know again loyalty goes a certain way but the Benjamin are what uh what rules the world now speaking with Chris Gordy of sports stock 790 as well as the oedon SEC podcast here on the John neighbor show now Gordy looking at the SEC in general I’m curious of your
Thoughts there’s a lot of new coaches I mean you got Elco down there at Texas A&M you got Levy over there Mississippi State uh kayin dor of course at Alabama which is one that a lot of people are going to be watching but as far as the
The new coaches is who do you think is going to be not only the most successful in year one but set up for most success moving forward in the SEC yeah I mean it’s easy to say that dor is set up with the greatest setup right I mean he’s got the most Talent
You know Alabama people forget still had a a top two recruiting class this year even with the transition away from Sabin um convenient on that timing of Nick saan announcing the retirement but um you know I do think that it’s uh I think it’s it’s going to be very interesting
To see how he does there is an immense pressure on deor there and look I I’ll be honest with you I don’t I don’t know if it’s going to work and it’s okay to say that I saw so many folks in the media immediately jump ship or or jump
To this is a home run higher what a great hire for Alabama oh Bama’s goingon to be just fine and I asked those people like what is fine like what’s the expectation for B and most realistic Alabama fans I talk to say look 10- two and making the playoffs this year would
Be huge win for dor and year one but there are a lot of those fine bomb Alabama fans that think no 12-0 we’re going undefeated we got Jaylen milro back we’re going 12 and0 and and we’re winning the SEC and we’re beating Georgia and I just think I encourage all
Those B fans like take a reality check Nick Sabin was the greatest coach of all time he’s gone dor can be awesome but like you know I think realistic I I asked people I said do you think winning one championship in the next four years
For dor is a win and most people I talked to say yes that’s that’s great any any team would take that except Alabama the standard is higher than that those fans have been spoiled and they’re like one championship in four years hell no like dor should be competing for one
Every year and it’s just I just don’t think that’s realistic with this landscape of college football right now so um yeah I think dor like I said he he is the most set up for Success among the new head coaches but I like Elco man I I
Think A&M’s schedule sets up very well they’ve done a tremendous job quietly in the portal like ol Miss got all the headlines as you know Lane kein was the portal King but there was about a week there where A&M jumped ol Miss before they added one or two more players and
A&M had the number one transfer portal class at one point they they’ve addressed a lot of needs and it’s not a lot of household names it’s a lot of guys you probably haven’t heard of but I I think you know and the Aggies at least have tempered expectations they’ve come
They’re like look we know this is going to take time for Elco to build this that’s why we pay Jimbo Fisher a fortune to go away but I could see A&M getting nine and three I don’t know if 10 and two is realistic but nine and three
Eight and four in year one that’s certainly a step forward from where they’ve been with Jimbo fiser these last couple years so um A&M’s in a great spot Jeff lebby at Mississippi I think he’s an awesome ex’s and O coach I just think he don’t have the dogs man you look at
That Mississippi State roster it is depleted uh they had to go get Blake shap and the quarterback from Baylor I’ve been asking people I’m like is he the starter like it’s so it’s it’s a rough roster right now for Mississippi State and it’s forunate the passing of
Mike Leech Zack Arnette they tried to Pivot it didn’t work so um it’s going to take him some time there Jeff leby I I’ve seen Mississippi State people have got them winning like two three games this year like they they think it’s just going to be abysmal there and I don’t
Know man I’d have a hard hard hard time making a case against it but um yeah again to to answer your question I think dor probably in the best spot but man he is under the most pressure I keep saying if I’m kayin dor keep your cell phone
Off block out the noise cuz they’re going to lose a game that here when they lose that first game it’s incumbent on him to reset the you know reset the team get back on track because if he reads any of those news clippings it’s going
To be all this guy ain’t Sabin you know he sucks like it’s it’s going to be brutal well also too about the quarterback position I know you you mentioned a few of the guys and and on these teams that have new coaches and whatnot but I also feel like the SEC
Quarterback wise I don’t know who’s going to be the best I mean you kind of have some ideas maybe but there’s just a lot of uncertainty at that position and makes the conference in general especially post Nick Sabin well yeah I guess Texas probably will may even be
Picked to win in the SEC because of the quarterback and who they have returning but everybody else just I don’t know there’s no quarterbacks in this league right now to where I’m like oh yeah these These are the guys and these are going to be the ones that win they may
Be on Heisman watch so just the quarterback position in general seems pretty uncertain too in this conference yeah um we’ll start with the knowns uh Carson back is it Carson Beck was really awesome last year like I I I put a sneaky uh last summer I put a a Heisman
Future bet on him and it didn’t win but there was a stretch there where he was playing really well I’m like oh oh maybe and then Jaye Daniels put up stupid numbers like ah well that’s that’s out the window but a lot of people expected Carson Beck to be a Heisman Contender
Look news flash George’s loaded again and the schedule sets up pretty well for them I I think uh I think George’s got a great chance to go undefeated or go 11 to one and you know they’ll be in the playoff and you know the whole thing
About a three Pat you know last year I mean God you lose one game a close game to Bama in the SEC Championship and you get ousted meanwhile B could lose at home to Texas and yet they still get in just because they beat Georgia SC title game it’s still mindboggling that
Georgia didn’t make the playoff last year they were still one of the four best teams in the country uh but I think Carson Beck is going to lead that charge he’ll be a Heisman Contender I think Brady cook at Missouri had an awesome year last year can he build off of that
Well he’s got Luther Burton back they do have to replace Cody Sher in the back field field um they brought in a couple guys to the transfer portal we’ll see if they can do that but I think Brady Cook’s really good um you know obviously milro everybody thinks that in a in a
Dor you know quarterback friendly offense that he’ll be able to look really good uh this is going to be a big test for dor this is the first time in a couple years he’s not going to have Michael pennick you know to coach and save his butt so you know but but milro
Showed some signs down the stretch last year win in the SEC Championship played pretty well in the bowl game against Michigan so uh he’ll be up there and Jackson dart’s the other big one I mean Old Miss has got the easiest Cakewalk schedule I think we’ve ever seen them
Have and even if they lose their two toughest games Miss is going to go 10 and two and they’ll either be in Atlanta playing for your SEC title or they’ll just be 10- two and go not playing the SEC title but making the playoff as an
At large team so um Jackson Dart I think the the world is set up for him to just absolutely dominate this year with uh you know the pieces they brought in they bring in Juice Wells uh they bring back Trey Harris just they got so many
Weapons that you know lff and Old Miss are going to score a lot of points um you know and then there’s the other ones like the kind of like Ken Conor Wegman bounce back healthy and be really good I think he can I think Garrett NM you know
He’s a gunslinger to LSU he’s going to throw for a ton of yards and touchdowns the problem is he also throws interceptions so I almost call him Brett faves like he’ll throw for a couple thousand yards and you know 28 touchdowns but does he have like 15
Interceptions to go with it I think that’s what you’re going to get from nus me uh Nico IAM malava was awesome in the bowl game for Tennessee that was against the best defense of the country in Iowa so um you know if that’s a precursor of
What’s to come he used his legs shows showed his dual threat ability uh and then don’t forget Grant Merz at Florida was one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the SEC last year was leading the conference and completion percentage most of the year and he’s back for Florida even though everybody
Thinks they’re going to suck gr Merz is a good guy to have back there um you know you look at uh Kentucky they bring in the the kid the backup from U from Georgia to come in and and hopefully be the guy South Carolina been hearing so much
Stuff about Lenor sers there Vandy brings in Nate Johnson transfer from Utah who I’ve been hearing is you know actually a really good athlete for for Vanderbuilt to get um you know so we go from there you know like I said probably Blake shaping at Mississippi it sounded
Like ton green of course at Arkansas and then you know Auburn I just think sticking with pton Thorne is a mistake for Hugh frees they may add a quarterback post spring practice uh through the portal and I really think they should but um you know if we’re kind of putting tears obviously Carson
Beck Jackson Dart um you know Brady cook and and Jaylen milro all at the top all right last one for let you get at it real quick Gordy why you wearing a Kentucky shirt uh my wife went to Kentucky so she she buys me these and I I put them on I
Uh I’m indifferent to them but when uh when they’re playing the NCA tournament she makes me put these clothes on and uh look I mean I’m I’m whatever if they if Kentucky wins they win great but uh how about Cal Perry man pressure on him I
Mean I mean like he’s been one and done a couple times recently in the tournament like they if he doesn’t go far this year this would be some real tough awkward conversations in that uh behind the scenes because he’s got that lifetime contract but you know when he
Decides to hang it up he’ll transition into like front office booster role kind of thing but um yeah I look I’m indifferent to Kentucky I like Mark stops he’s an awesome guy again cal if he wins or loses I’m indifferent but uh it’s the wife she went there well Gordy
As always man we appreciate you you can catch him on the locked on SEC podcast as well as Sports Talk 790 appreciate you man so much and enjoy the rest of spring practice man we’ll be catching up with you thanks John and congrats on the old Natty State man thing guys are
Killing it over there we not done yet either so don’t be satisfied we not done I mean honestly I don’t really remember post game I guess I black out after games winning and losing you missed it you missed it you missed the game just
Tell me a I’m not going to go there with and that will be the last question I answer with that hat On oh shoot that is why Arkansas is fantastic yes sir why did that happen in fville Arkansas what what took you there it’s just so weird visiting friends uh but yeah Dixon Street Dixon Street yeah Dixon Street it was uh it’ll get you best guys I know it’s a tough time for
You uh the coach has gone but you got a new coach now you got to listen to what he says okay I know you’re thinking oh who is this new guy where’s the other guy that crashed the motorcycle we like him better he was cool or whatever
Forget about all that listen to the new coach and get out there and win some games oh bro brother this guy stinks you guys act like it’s pick it up a little bit okay get your chin up smile smile I was a teacher today told those boys welcome to the landville is
1843 miles away but the call of the Hawks can be heard all the way to San Francisco must stick my dick in the mashed potato no HS powered by Arkansas for Arkansas every time you put a mic in my face I’m going to say Arkansas the John Neighbors show is Live From The
Natty State Sports Studios all right welcome back into the John Neighbors show you’re live from Natty State Sports Studios appreciate everybody listening in and watching in appreciate Chris Gordy of locked on SEC joining us in the previous segment talking little SEC football with us don’t want to do a little bit of a
Teaser of course tomorrow we’re going to be joined by Tyler spoon thanks to the bank of fa Bill looking for forward to catching up with him talking a little baseball with him but also on Thursday in studio raise your back baseball player Payton Stovall my guy stove dealt with a
Lot had a nice little weekend and he’s going to be joining us on Thursday afternoon live here in studio so really looking forward to having him and hanging out and talking about his journey of getting back and how good it felt to hit that home run in the previous weekend series but Arkansas
Baseball is going to be getting after it tonight 6 p.m. against Oral Roberts in bomb Walker stadium so be sure to follow Andrew Ellis as well as natat sports.com as we will be providing all the great baseball content all content and all of our content fre 99 and you know we’re
We’re getting after it Scotty and Curtis are over there in Nashville and they’re going to be covering the SEC basketball tournament which hopefully they’re there for a few days instead of just one two But be sure check them out in the Pod the palace I know he’s going to be doing
Some big things too so be sure to go over there as again we’re just trying to trying to make it work and get through all the content because we’re having some fun with it too uh I want to talk about this real quick because I know we
Just got about 25 minutes left roughly in the show but Nick Savin you know Nick Savin Alabama head coach former Alabama head coach uh he retired thank goodness but he doesn’t mean he’s done talking as he was on Capitol Hill today talking about nil and the impact that’s had on
Student athletes and college football in general it’s got a lot of people talking so what was it that he said that had everybody so up in arms about well take a listen uh you just retired from a amazingly and historically significant coaching career how much did the current
Chaos and state of the law contribute to your decision to retire now well all the things that I believed in for all these years 50 years of coaching no longer exist in college athletics so it’s always was about developing players it was always about helping people be more successful in
Life U my wife even said to me we’d have all the recruits over on Sunday uh with their parents for breakfast and uh she would always meet with the mothers and uh talk about how she was going to help and uh impact their um sons and how they
Would be well taken care of and she came to me you know like right before I retired and said why why are we doing this and I said what do you mean she said all they care about is how much you’re going to pay them they don’t care
About how you’re going to develop them which is all what we’ve always done so why are we doing doing this so you know to me that was sort of a red alert that we really are creating a circumstance here that is not beneficial to the development of young people which is why
I always did what I did um my dad did it I did it um so and that’s the reason that I always like College athletics more than the NFL is because you had the opportunity to develop young people so and I I want their quality of life to be
Good I think as I said before name image and likeness is a great opportunity for them to create a brand for themselves um I’m not against that at all um but to come up with some kind of a system uh that still can help the development of
Young people I think is Paramount to the future of College athletics that was Nick sain over there at Capitol Hill and talking about nil and I’ve seen some reaction to this on social media which is always where it comes from from people especially stute men and women of the media where they
Give their thoughts on everything in college sports and overwhelmingly I’d say that some people were kind of getting after Nick Sabin you know I think it was Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio said well that’s yeah it’s called capitalism Nick yeah I know and I think a lot of people
Shared his sentiments and some people disagreed with just how things have been done in nil call it a copout call it whatever you want my stance on it is is both both sides can be right in some ways I think Nick Sabin can be right I think Nick Sabin actually is right
Now does that mean he’s correct about every little detail in his rant there maybe not but you got to understand that College athletics or college football to Nick Sabin is different from what college football is to everybody now me think about how long Nick sa’s
Been in the game I mean a very very long time and he’s a coached in the NFL and he coached in college and even mentioned why he liked college football a lot more the name image and likeness in its Theory and in its point and as well as
To me yes all for it but the pay for play which I understand has been going on forever anyways but the pay for play just seems to take away kind of the purity of college football you know the college education the development and everything is definitely a big part of
It whether you like it or not it is and it is important I believe so to the high-end players the guys that are going to get drafted in the NFL yeah it’s College a big deal to them probably not but to the vast vast vast vast vast majority of college football athletes
Because we’re just talking about college football that scholarship is going to go a long way whether you like it or not whether you say it’s lame or not scholarship has a lot of value old adage is that 99% of student athletes are going to go pro in something other than sports that’s what
The called education there is for so Nick sain can be right at the same time in talking about how it’s unfortunate that this is where it’s become but also understanding that college football is a huge Money Maker has been making millions hundreds of millions of dollars hand over
Fist and so it only seems right that the people who are participating in the sport the players themselves get a cut of that I understand that logic it does make sense but what it does take away and I think the point that Nick sain was trying to make you can call it whining
If you want but the point that I think Nick sa was trying to make is say Hey listen it got to the point where as a coach I wasn’t wanting to do this anymore because I was having I was so focused on development I was so focused on getting them ready
Practicing giving them life lessons especially at a very p middle age and coming into adulthood and getting these guys ready for life that it was no longer about that anymore like nobody valued that no player valued that nobody valued the priority of football anymore it was just simply give me more
Money I keep saying this story but I’m going to keep telling you until I’m blew in the face I know for a fact that this past year at Arkansas know Sam Pitman had a meeting with 40 plus players one day as soon as this season came o over
With and I think all but one said hey what are we going to do for my nil how much more money we going to make me every single one is that part of it yes but that part sucks we all want to have more money like imagine if you run a
Business and year after year after year after year but you’re having so much things going on in your mind your employee comes to you each and every time being like what are you going to do for me MoneyWise or I’m going to leave and go
Get more money is is that the case okay fine again capitalism free country do what you want but it doesn’t mean it’s a good way of doing things it doesn’t mean that as a business owner you don’t want to have to deal with that each and every
Time now trust me as someone who’s a new business owner like me here at n State Sports I have a great group of guys and a great base and some great employees that put in the work and all of that but I can tell you this if each and every
Year or half year or whatever I was having to deal with them coming to me and saying all right what are you going to do for me more money well you know I didn’t think your performance was great here you know I thought you need to work on this it
Doesn’t matter I need more money what what are you going to do or I’m walking so okay then walk but it doesn’t make for a good culture it doesn’t make for a good vibe and as we know college football is about culture 100% about culture the purity college football is
Gone you can both can be right folks you can be in the camp of yes I want players to have name image and likeness and be able to make money on their brand absolutely you can be in that camp while also not wanting to have a sport to
Where each and every day because of the transfer portal because of the con the lack of transparency when it comes to nil when it comes to you know it’s not you can sign up for contracts for multiple years like all this stuff that you can all hate the way that
It’s being handled there too again both things can be right at the same time but for whatever reason people have kind of lost that they’re kind of like ah I don’t know about that just just make it the West make it all that make it just to Freedom okay fine but put in
Some regulations put in some sort of organized detailed understanding of what’s expected out of each and every one of us I think that’s fair so I have no problem with what Nick sa said every was mad about it it’s ain’t all just a grumpy old man and maybe that’s part partially right but
Again I still think both things can be right at the same time I think you can be on both sides of the fence on this one I do hope it changes just not fun man I couldn’t and it’s not that I feel bad for college football coaches they make a lot of
Money but not all of them do folks not all of them do there’s you’re you’re just dealing with stuff 12 players or whatever that come to you each and every year and you have to go through all of them and just make them happy and then you got to decide
Who’s worth it who’s not and they can’t sign contracts you know it’s not you talk to their agent it’s like okay well you have a contract contracts don’t mean anything because there’s no contracts at least in the NFL it’s like hey we got you for this amount of years
At this pay that you agreed to and maybe that’s what’s going to fix it is if you get to the point to where you can just have contracts sign maybe that’ll fix it but I just think it’s so funny that people feel like you have to be on one
Side or the other you either have to be all in on the chaos in the wild west and where nothing matters there need to be no rules and going insane or you need to be where there’s nothing can change and players don’t need to make a dime you can be in the
Middle this is not that polarizing of a topic we’ll get into hey did y’all see this or did y’all see this I should say not did because that doesn’t make it sound as cool but either way we’ll get to that here in just a little bit but
First folks I got to tell you about our fine folks over at Alumni Hall in fville we know Razorback baseball season of course SEC play starting up this weekend a lot of you going to be making the trip I don’t know how the weather’s going to look but it doesn’t matter because at

Live from Natty State Sports Studios we not done yet either so don’t be satisfied we not done I mean honestly I don’t really remember post game I guess I blackout after games winning and losing you missed it you you missed it you missed the game just tell me you
Missed I’m not going to go there with why not and that will be the last question I answer with that head On oh shoot that is why Arkansas is Fantastic yes sir why did that happen in fville Arkansas what what took you there it’s just so weird visiting friends uh but yeah Dixon Street Dixon Street yeah Dixon Street it was uh it’ll get you best guys uh I know it’s a tough time for you uh the coach has gone but you
Got a new coach now you got to listen to what he says okay I know you’re thinking oh who is this new guy where’s the other guy that crashed the motorcycle we like him better he was cool or whatever forget about all that listen to the new
Coach and get out there and win some games oh brother this guy stinks you guys act like it’s pick it up a little bit okay get your chin up smile smile I was a teacher today told those boys welcome to the bville is 1843 mil away but the call of the Hawks
Can be heard all the way to San Francisco must dig my the mashed potatoes no Hogs powered by Arkansas for Arkansas every time you put a mic in my face I’m going say Arkansas the John neighbor show is Live From The Natty State Sports Studios all right welcome back into Natty State Sports Studios as this is the John Neighbors show appreciate each and every one of you who’s been listening in and watching in and having some fun with it too but he is uh keep reading these comments about Nick Savin and all that people are
Pretty pretty upset or Al honestly pretty into it but I don’t know I just think it’s funny that I will say you know even though I’m on like team Nick Sabin for the most part it is kind of funny hearing him complain about it when
I’m like you know pay for play was like dude come on you told me that all those Alabama football players before the nil era were going to Alabama because of the love that they have for the Crimson Tide and they were going there for free sure they got their
Scholarship but you’re saying that uh you know what I got offered million dollar to go to this particular school but uh nah I think I’m going to go to Alabama for free as the old saying goes don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining we
All know better than that but it’s still quite funny uh all right so some other things happening in the sports world uh that we want to get to I I thought this was a really cool thing for Daniel Gafford which for those of you who may not know Daniel gafford’s course in the
NBA and he’s done a good job with uh the Denver or Denver Dallas Mavericks because he was traded there earlier this year and I kind of felt like he was going to be really good but how about this for as far as NBA history goes Alice Mavericks tweet this out rent was
Due so he went ahead and broke the record because Daniel Gafford look at that guy look at that face still looks the same way uh he was able to break an NBA record the most consecutive made shots in the play-by-play era of the NBA 28 shots
Thought that was pretty cool for him and I know that of course there’s a lot to be said about Daniel Gafford and the greatness that he has but I kept wondering how he would fit in the NBA and and how long he’d be in the NBA but
He’s done a great job man him and Portis both is just unfortunate man imagine if they played together just for one year how awesome that would have been but for Arkansas who’s not had a whole lot of big men come through here recently at least I’d say poris and Gafford are
Definitely doing a great job of it too so yeah kudos to them and also in some other news too this is what’s crazy about what’s going on in the NFL apparently free agency is Wilding and I will be honest I don’t pay attention as much to the NFL as maybe I did so
Wrapped up in the college game and the college athletics and Raz your back stuff but Patriots are going hard in the pain after Calvin Ridley and four charger Superstars because they have a lot of money apparently not only with Ridley but they believe he prefers to return to Jacksonville but it’s been
Discussing with the deal with the Jaguars and they’re trying to make it work with Calvin Ridley which would be huge for them but Patriots need help cuz they uh love those Chargers players and it’s funny cuz they even mentioned that now but also at the fact that Hunter Henry who’s on the Patriots
Now he just signed a three-year deal former Razorback also was on the Chargers before he arrived in the Patriots I guess there’s something to it that they really like from them but um yeah NFL free agency has been crazy guess you have her cousins with the Falcons you got Russell Wilson with the
Steelers got D Derk Henry going to the Eagles I Believe been it’s hard to peek up uh keep up with it no it’s not the Eagles sorry that was saquon Barkley who went to the Eagles like Derrick Henry went to the Ravens as if they needed any help
They’ve already pretty good so yeah free agency and trades and all that’s been really crazy but NFL does not sleep just like uh many other things don’t do in college sports all right so uh also some other news I wanted to to dive into a I closed
It shoot anyways what I was going to bring up is that the the the movie Batman the Batman 2 apparently got delayed until 2026 I saw the original Batman well say the original the Batman that came out a few years ago and it was fine it was
Good I liked it was way too long though I don’t want to be that guy I love long movies but there’s like three hour movies that are like Martin Scorsese or Christopher Nolan that I can deal with because it’s it help it it’s it’s made for that type of movie but there’s also
Other ones like the Batman where it’s like no that’s that’s it was about 30 minutes too long could have done without that either way it’s coming out in 2026 because it’s been hit with some delays I don’t know why but I I love Batman it’s one of my favorite superheroes one of my
Favorite movies especially the different content creation that’s G with it but I I don’t I just don’t know also Port moer talked to yesterday about him possibly going to depal some was really weird if he went to depal but he did say out on Twitter or X
However you want to say it he says heard all the rumors this afternoon and he puts the little head in the face emoji and want to say emphatically there is zero truth I love Oklahoma and sooner Nation these accounts make stuff up and there is no validity to any of these
Sources because I’ve spoken to no one about any job okay could Porter mourer be telling the truth sure sure he could be is he telling the truth maybe possibly but I I’ve always felt like in these situations there’s smoke there’s fire for a reason I just don’t think that
There’s some if it’s some random blogger and some random Anonymous social media account that puts this out there okay that’s one thing but when you start having actual media members people who cover the team or at least some people that are respectable a little bit maybe not fullon respectable but a little bit
And kind of gain some attraction it’s got to be coming from somewhere whether it’s Porter Mo’s agent or maybe it’s depal it’s coming from somewhere so I have a hard time believing they just make like make stuff up and make up the job of depal seems too specific it’d be one
Thing if say they said that por moer was leaving somewhere but I guess he stand at Oklahoma or maybe not I don’t know kind of wish other coaches sometimes would put out these messages whenever they’re dealing with social media rumors won’t my name names but sometimes I just wish that was
The case uh all right so some other crazy stuff going on how about Big Baby Davis remember Glenn Big Baby Davis he’s apparently on Instagram posting pictures and reminiscing about the time he used to shoot porn and gives great advice that there is life after basketball so
Apparently Big Baby Davis did that he posted a picture says that one time I used to short shoot pornos I really used to like that job what like just a joke did you actually do that apparently he directed pornography I’m sorry and then he had this to say this
Was a great statement because there was one of the comments here that just cracked me up someone said uh bro you’re my kid’s favorite player he follows you Davis responds with well tell him after basketball life will change he’s going to have to find a real job this is me trying new
Things I’m sorry I think Big Baby Davis made plenty of efforts to do the right things and to try to you know be there when he needed to be there and yeah that’s just that’s just pretty weird pretty awful anyways um also throwing out there to uh real
Quick because we just have a couple minutes that Disney Star Wars which I’m not a fan of I haven’t been a fan of for a while but disy Ridley was doing an interview she was the one that played Ray in the Disney Star Wars she says despite the popularity she said say her
Career stalled when she finished the her run leading the film’s trilogy with 2019s rise of Skywalker you don’t say says there weren’t many many offers coming in my way it’s not to say that there wasn’t any I just remember finishing and thinking oh it’s quiet and strange yeah cuz Disney Star Wars sucked
And so did that movie she said quote so it was very strange at times to sit with the quiet and honestly grieving a time of my life all that does suck I’m sorry to hear that but those movies sucked and it wasn’t because of you you’re just an
Actress I get it wasn’t because of you but still I hate those movies I hate Disney Star Wars and I’ve made that known and made it clear at least I hope I have but appreciate all of you each and every one of you listening and watching into the
John Neighbors show be sure to like And subscribe to All Things Natty State Sports we have it all going on we have great football practice reports on YouTube across social media platforms have baseball tonight got basketball with the guys we’re doing it all here at

The only reason Dan Enos failed is because the oLine was not good. We all seen an knew what Enos is capable of with a good oLine.
As a former collegiate linemen i completely disagree on the linemen should never sprint. they have to be in absolute grueling shape while maintaining with high carb diet. people have no idea how hard mentally and physically the line works every play. i do agree they should get their shape more through foot and hand placement. creating the best technique habits possible.
